DR never had a Canthan district. The early design included one, but the actual game that launched on 28 August 2012 did not; within the game, it was always the Great Collapse (and now, the Crown Pavilion).

Source: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Crown_Pavilion

There were demo shots of the Canthan district that got released before the game launched. It did exist in a real form but not in the live game.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/4/47/2010_May_Divinity's_Reach_Canthan_district_Polished.jpg

I think Illconceived’s point was that since the Canthan district was never there at launch (and not mentioned in dialogue) it is not canon that the Canthan district ever existed, even if it was planned to be the Canthan district before launch. In lore the Great Collapse was the art district.

Exactly so. Demos aren’t part of the “real form.”

Not sure why people so upset that people say f2p brings trolls. Its a known fact that the trolls and children flock to f2p games.

No, it’s not a known fact. There are trolls and immature people everywhere. Free-to-play attracts all sorts of people.

What bugs me is when people make statements about “known facts” without actually backing up that claim with, you know, facts — it doesn’t matter if I agree or not.

Being offline all night wont reset the DR

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Really, this DR bs has to end anet.

It’s important to the health of the economy, so it’s always going to be in all MMOs.

the DR is still active after being offline all night, still no drops….

Really? Being offline for 8 hours doesn’t count?

Why should it?

It’s not my fricking fault if a legendary requires 250 of every t6, 100 charged lodestones and all that BS.

It is your responsibility if that’s something you want to go for. Other players don’t seem to have trouble accumulating the necessary items.

Really, it has to stop, it’s hurting the players, bots don’t exist anymore and if they did, they probably would just switch area after 30 mins, for them, any material makes them money when farmed by the thousands.

Bots still exist; I’m not sure why you think they don’t. And sure, bots can change where they farm, which is the point — it slows down their ability to farm.

Please, anet, stop with this insanity, you cant be like:

“You must grind to make your legendary, but we hate grind so no farming in the same area for more than 30 minutes even if you need a specific mat that has a really kittenty drop rate in the first place from specific mobs, we’re so casual friendly.

They can be like that, because there are multiple ways to accumulate the mats. Farm CoE paths or do the CoE reward track for PvP, use the TP, use different characters to farm the same spot if that’s what you prefer.

Please don’t come with the “buy them on tp”, people should be able to farm mats if they wish so, plus i’ve already put all my gold in buy orders for the charged cores to make the 100 lodestones that are needed.

Why wouldn’t you use the TP? Why is it so terrible to use gold to buy what you need?

Not going to happen.

It would mean that anybody who bought the royal pass, airship pass or to some extent the home portal stone would be undermined. These items are available in the gem-store and thus can be bought with real money.

Sure you can get to LA (and thus Southsun Cove and any of the racial cities) for free, if you wanted to spare a couple of silver. But it’s inconvenient and means extra loading times.

Naw, it has nothing to do with airship and royal terrace — ANet didn’t change it years ago (before those luxuries existed), when people first starting using WvW and PvP lobby to avoid WP fees. Further, those items are still much more convenient than heading to LA and using its portals to move to other cities.

I pointed out that they are being renumerated for the projects they work on, and so are sharing in the successes of the projects.

Again, that’s factually incorrect. The are paid for the project; they don’t get to share in the windfalls for successful games. It’s standard for film/tv stars, writers, show runners, and any number of other people to include contract elements that provide additional earnings based on how well their projects do. Why is it so hard to understand that Voice Actors feel that they, too, should get to enjoy the fruits of success?

Can we get a /trading post search function? Just like the /wiki command would be very useful, and most important of all make it easier to be lazy.

Easier to be lazy about what? If you have an item, you can right-click to buy/sell via the TP. If you don’t have the item, you can shift-click, copy the name from chat, and paste it in the TP search window (press [enter] after removing the square brackets).

What other features would you like to give up in order that ANet can save you from this onerous experience?

As far as I have been able to determine, there are no documented cases of money or goods being permanently lost from the TP — items and coin always go into the queue and the worst that happens is that people have trouble researching what happened because the queue is low to update on some specific (and rare) occasions.

That doesn’t mean that it’s impossible that y’all have experienced a new bug. It does mean that it’s worth double-checking what happened and working with Customer Service if you still have trouble finding gold or coin.

  • With items sold or bought, double-check your transaction history.
  • With specialty items, use a website like gw2efficiency.com to see if they ended up on another character (faster than searching one character at a time in-game).
  • Coins and mats are harder to track down, because they get easily absorbed into your account via the wallet or “deposit all” and sometimes, people don’t realize when money or items were returned. In that case, you have to work with Customer Service.

More options for the Guild community

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Illconceived Was Na.9781

1. improved message board [inside the game]

I don’t really want ANet spending time on web-plugins inside the game. They are bad at it (look how long it’s taken them to get the TP to work as well as it does today) and it’s a distraction from the core game. What they could do is make it easier to include the guild website as a link within a sub tab for “guild details” (the same tab could include subtabs with information about VoIP, message of the day, etc).

2. “One man guilds”

What? why? I don’t think 5 guilds is enough. I am in a WvW guild, a friend’s guild, and if I had a chance, I’d be in a dungeon/fractal guild, an open world guild, and probably a raid guild. Friends would be in RP guilds as well.

Plus, the issue with storage banks is that we all want more storage, so instead of single-person guilds, ANet could find a way to offer more room to hoard.

3. “guild nickname”

This seems very useful and (hopefully) easy to implement, since the friends list already has similar functionality.

4. “member of the month tab”

Sure, why not include a custom tab (in addition to those I’ve mentioned for VoiP, the website, MotD, …)

5. database of guilds in tyria

I think a database could be very useful, but it’s a big project to make it happen. There are a lot more guilds than you think. This would only work if guild could also include information/data useful for filtering guilds — that is going to turn out to be a lot of work. Are they recruiting? Are there age or behavior requirements? RP? (and if so, what kind?) What hours are people usually online? etc etc

tl;dr all ANet said was the people weren’t always getting as much loot as ANet had intended. There’s nothing at all to support the idea that some accounts are flagged for better loot.

I honestly believe that some accounts are flagged for better drops that others upon creation.

They say they didn’t do it that way, but it also took six months of proof being posted daily before they admitted to a bug in people being flagged for loot.

Had to hunt it down but here we go.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Share-your-data-about-perceived-strange-drop-behavior-here/first

I’d have to hunt for the six or seven threads that prompted Anet to make that one, but hey after 31 pages.

“Yeah guys turns out not all our loot rules were working right.”

What they said was: sometimes people did not get any drops when they should have. ANet didn’t say that the distribution of what dropped was off.

In effect, the system that was designed to give 800 drops from 1,000 kills was only giving 780 drops instead — narrow set of circumstances, not a problem affecting every drop and not affect the types of things that dropped. It was a tricky bug, so they weren’t forced to admit anything — they had to investigate to find the specific issue and make appropriate adjustments.

Sharing in the success of a project means getting renumerated for that project, not for future (theoretical) projects.

I am fairly sure that each and every voice actor is being paid for their work.

The question raised isn’t whether they are getting paid or not, it’s whether the amount represents a fair price, given the importance of voice acting to games. TV writers didn’t strike a few years back because they weren’t getting paid, they struck because (in their opinion), they weren’t being compensated fairly compared to how much money the producers were raking in.

In any case, you left out the context to which I was responding:

They do share in the success of the project. They get invited back to do more work,

Again, being invited back isn’t “sharing in the success.” Being invited back is a new job, for which they will also get paid; it’s theoretical future work and has nothing to do with whether they are being fairly compensated for the success of the current project.

I understand how you might disagree with the specific terms. What I don’t understand is why you think it’s unreasonable for voice actors to ask for a raise.

Anet had said previously that the Winds of Change story sets the stage for Guild Wars 2.

They said that the events of Guild Wars Beyond set the stage for GW2…and it did. We meet Keiran Thackeray, and see how he & his true love (everyone’s favorite child mesmer, Gwen) evolved and how they found the Ebonhawke.

Since they are Logan’s ancestors, I’m not sure what more you could ask in terms of a lore connection, especially since Logan was a founder of Destiny’s Edge.

Winds of Change was set primarily in Cantha.

Or entirely in Cantha.

But the connection to GW2 ends there, as we all know that Cantha was removed from Tyrian lore entirely.

Cantha wasn’t removed from Tyrian lore — the entire continent isolated itself and with no news leaving their shores, there just isn’t much to say.

Divinity’s Reach even had a Canthan district, before it was turn into the Great Collapse.

DR never had a Canthan district. The early design included one, but the actual game that launched on 28 August 2012 did not; within the game, it was always the Great Collapse (and now, the Crown Pavilion).

You think “dragonhunter” or “daredevil” or <gasp> “herald” is better than “druid”? Most of the names are, in my opinion, standard MMO/RPG titles and concepts. I like Chronomancer and the Engineer elite is scrappy; I’m not impressed with the rest.

Source?

Edit: Oh. If you’re going to link Final Rest then you should know that it didn’t drop at all prior to when they fixed it.

Check these forums, unless Anet deleted it, it should have a red tag and over a thousand replies.

Something was happening, people were getting flagged with DR and it wasn’t turning off for them ever.

Eventually Anet did actually investigate and find a problem, but only after months of proof.

Do you not remember? The topic was on the front page for months.

I don’t remember this at all and I read the forums constantly. There was a potential issue with DR on dungeon runs in 2012, but nothing about a DR bug affecting drops from kills.

The issue with Final Rest was that it only dropped from the SB chest and there was a bug affecting the chain (and maybe one affecting the drop rate from the chest, although I don’t remember if that was confirmed or only speculated upon). Once ANet figured out the root cause, Final Rest started dropping as expected from the SB chest and the price dropped to something similar to other named exotics.

I would have no issue with this IF every other person involved also received that same “bonus” payout. Companies do still do bonuses if they do well (not many, but that’s not the point). I can see voice actors asking for some quality of life changes when taking a gig, but royalties? smh

Look at games with great VA and games with lousy VA — it makes a big difference in the gaming experience of many players. Why shouldn’t the VAs share in the success of hte project, just as actors do in film or TV? Not every employee is intrinsic to the experience, although maybe key grips and “best boys” should also get royalties — if they do, their union can also negotiate with the producers for better minimum contract standards.

I believe a big part of this conversation should be about magic find specifically and the rarity of loot it affects.
If all these blues and greens are to have any real meaning, it has to be in the valuable improvement of magic find.
Magic find simply needs to affect many more things. That seems inescapable.

It does affect many things; it just doesn’t affect anything that much. So someone with 300% MF will, over the course of 1,000s of kills, get better value from their loot compared to those with less MF.

If they did it any other way, MF would become so important that everyone would grind for it, giving too great an advantage to veterns (with the werewithal to do that more easily than new players) and putting pressure on prices of master/fine items.

zerker meta

Illconceived Was Na.9781

its been about a year since the topic of revising berserker meta was made and as far as ive seen i havent seen the topic get really anywhere other than 16 pages within said year.
Aside from having punishing AI with specific skillsets in HoT, whats to be done about non expansion content being bulldozed too kitten fast ? What happened to the gw2 BETA AI that would dodge etc?

are we catering to the newer players to only just run whats BEST?! or are we going to still throw the “play how you want and get loved for it” shenanigans ?

As has been said in all of the various threads on the topic: the issue isn’t zerker’s, it’s that we’ve figured out the optimum way to handle all fights, due to a combination of static encounters (so we can easily predict what will happen) and traditional foe AI (which makes them easy to counter). As long as that’s true, there will always be a meta (it just happens to emphasize power). ANet can tone down power or might, can beef up conditions and control, and zerker will still be faster in both casual and speedclearing situations…until they change the encounters and foe AI.

The silverlining is wide on this one: despite zerker being “faster”, there are tons of ways to be simply “fast enough.”

tl;dr the issue isn’t zerker meta; it’s the encounters. And it’s not that big an issue, since there are plenty of sufficiently successful builds already.

What is the re spawn timer on rich nodes?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I been farming rich Iron and Platinum ore nodes for my Ascended gear and noticed how inconsistent some of the re spawn times are.

Some seem to respawn after server reset. Others I will mine before work, come home 9 hours later and will not respawn, where others have.

Also I parked a few toons next nodes. When I log them on the node is gone, but if I zone into that map with another character it is there!

What gives?!

There are two types of rich nodes:

  • Permanent ones (always on the map)
  • Random ones (sometimes on the map, sometimes not).

The random ones are reset each time the map is created, so if the IP address is new (to you — use the in-game command /IP to check), then you can gather it again. If the map disappears and then is recreated, I think you can mine it again (although this is difficult to test).

The permanent ones use two timers:

  • Daily reset: there’s no way to the same mine a second time in any instance until the next reset.
  • An elapsed time: you also cannot mine it again until after a certain amount of elapsed time. I’ve run a number of tests and the number is at least 6 hours and less than 15. Others I’ve discussed this with think it’s 12 hours based on their tests. (There also seem to be more than a few nodes that are exceptions to this.)

This secondary timer also applies to node farms and some open world chests, including the one at the end of sharkmaw’s cavern.

So for example, you open the chest (or mine the rich node, etc) at 00:01 UTC (one minute after reset). You still won’t be able to mine again until the next day at 00:00 UTC, i.e. at reset, nearly 24 hours later.

For a second example, you get the node at 23:00 UTC (one hour prior to reset). You won’t be able to use the node again at 24:00 UTC (one hour later, at reset); you will be able to ~12:00 UTC (12 hours later, although it might be as soon as 06:00).

With all the long walls of text, I have to reiterate my question:
Why does anyone care if guilds other than their own ask for (or require) 100% rep?

I don’t join such guilds, because of how I approach the game and I think some guilds cripple their own vibrancy by forcing it upon people (instead of giving people strong reasons to rep). At the same time, I have no problem seeing that it could be an important component of success for certain guilds.

Title of topic:

Is f2p causing community toxicity?

After finishing a dungeon run …I asked if they wanted to do the next easy path in the dungeon, to which they replied “Kitten you” and immediately kicked me from the party.

Was I being melodramatic? Why do we put up with people like this? To tie this back to the title, I understand that almost a month ago, guild wars 2 went f2p or “free to try” or whatever. Could this be adversly affecting the amazing community (overall) that we have here?

So I’m a little confused. Do people think I’m blaming the f2pers? I was simply posing a question. As it stands, I have no position on this particular topic.

You posted an imflammatory question based on a single incident. The wording of your question implies a strong opinion. If you truly had no position, you would have asked, “Has anyone else seen an increase in ‘verbal abuse’ in the last month?” Instead, you extrapolated an entire culture change based on the one dungeon run and assumed a likely cause to this presumed change.

tl;dr I’m surprised that you’re surprised that people reacted strongly.

If you have to ask, the answer is always going to be “no.” If there was something you liked in the past, it’s worth coming back to see if the stuff you didn’t is less important now.

There are lots of new things in the game, lots of improved mechanics (or at least evolved mechanics), but the fundamentals of the game haven’t changed.

On the other hand, it’s completely free to come back, so it won’t cost you anything except your time to check it out.

I’ve seen zero and I play quite a bit.

“Playing quite a bit” is meaningless for comparing drop rates. What matters is:
How many foes have you killed that might drop loot? (You can substitute the relevant PvP containers that substitute for such loot.) Magic Find applies here.

If you run dungeons all the time, you aren’t killing many foes; your “income” is predominantly in the form of dungeon tokens and guaraneed coin. If you run champ trains, similarly you aren’t getting a lot of kills — you are killing a lot of champs relative to most people.

If, as others have mentioned, you are farming kills (in Orr, Harathi, or similar spots), then you are likely getting enough kills that you might notice a difference in drop rates from one day to another, if you farm for several hours a day.

You needs 1,000s of drops before you can get a reasonable idea of what drops and what isn’t dropping.

And most of us just don’t track that kind of data.

I always got the five times faster thing. It’s just that I disagree with you that it’s significant. As the drop rate goes down, the amount increased by the multiplier decreases as well. With how low the drop rate may be, getting a precursor may never be realized on the player level even if it were increased five fold.

Then your issue is with the low drop rate and not magic find because magic find works the same on high and low droprates.

Your initial arguement was that mf usefulness is debatable and i disagreed.

You’ll see that I was referring to when it comes to very rare drops. I said that in the following sentence after I made that statement. MY has it’s uses when it comes to fairly regular drops and materials except this thread isn’t about those.

  • Would you spend 100 dollars or euros to increase your chance of winning a lottery by 10 fold if the current chance to win was 1%?
  • Would you spend 100 dollars or euros to increase your chance of winning a lottery by 10 fold if the current chance to win was 0.000001%?

After all, you’re paying for the exact same thing, aren’t you? So paying 100 dollars or euros in either scenarios would be equally beneficial to you and equally worth the cost.

There’s a difference between expected results and risk|reward analysis. Paying 100 dollars|euros to increase your odds increases your costs enormously, while not increasing your expected results in the short term. That said, a lot of people do that — they buy more tickets when the lottery is high value, ignoring the their chances of winning the jackpot is tiny either way and ignoring the increased likelihood of splitting their reward with someone else.

In any case, the point is moot as it applies to magic find in this game. More MF has been shown to increase your average results in the long run; it doesn’t guarantee good result in any short term comparison.

I think these lucky accounts are due to the fact that RNG, isnt really RNG, because how can you get a program to randomly select a number.
You cant you use an algorithm. The problem with algorithms is that there is a pattern, even if you cannot see one.

It can’t be that. It to meaningfully distinguish between computer-generated “pseudo-randomness” and true randomness, when you are looking at drop rates within an MMO. The difference is too little to be noticeable when comparing accounts; we just don’t get nearly enough loot for this to matter.

That can’t be the case, because I haven’t done ANY dungeon story modes since before the pvp reward tracks, yet SOME of them are unlocked and others aren’t.

Nevertheless, do the story modes now, to unlock the other tracks.

Sorry i had to ask this, i was wondering if all the items in the guild bank will get shifted to the new guild halls? I mean most of us have personal banks clotted with things, so do we have to “solo claim”(do the claiming event which requires a few people?) the guild halls before getting access to our personal banks again?

thnaks

Short answer: yes.

Longer answer: yes, ANet has promised that all existing ‘improvements’ will carry over, including the guild banks and their contents.

Further, there will be an alternative access point (or points) for those who don’t own HoT, which obviously can’t require “claiming.” (Incidentally, ANet has said that claiming events will be map-wide, meaning anyone around can help; no need to solo cap.)

In other words, think of the guild banks (as well as your own bank) existing somewhere in the mists. The only thing needed is an access point, with the guild hall being just one of several (or even many).

To be honest, what they’re asking for doesn’t sound that far fetched at all.
Hope it goes well for them.

I forgot to say that in my earlier post: yes, their requests sound reasonable.

Here are a list of the easy things to check:

  • Are you all in the same region (NA or EU); if not, you can join each other’s parties, but not be on the same map.
  • Are you invisible? (There are some unexpected limitations when playing invisible that would explain some, although not all, of your symptoms.)

(I’m confused as to why people are against the idea, it doesn’t effect anyone in a bad way what so ever? If you don’t need it, then great you saved money! But I needs it, and so do others apparently.)

The reason you’re confused is that no one has actually said they are against the idea. The responses here have explained why some folks don’t think it’s as big an issue as the OP.

  • The game already offers lots of storage, so those who are running out of room are much more likely to have a hoarding issue rather than a lack-of-space issue.
  • Presumably, ANet has done the cost-benefit analysis on the needs of the data infrastructure to support more slots/account versus the number of players that would spend cash to buy them if they were available.
  • Similarly, there’s some cost|risk to updating various items or updating mechanics to make it easier to manage certain aspects of inventory. The game already has some excellent tools, including the “deposit all” option, the wardrobe for skins, the wallet for tokens.

tl;dr I don’t see people that are against adding more storage. I only see people explaining why it’s not likely to happen and/or there are things we can do now to manage our inventories.

A tick box that says “do not show this message again” would solve this for all sides

No, it wouldn’t. An annoyingly large fraction of players would click this the first time they spend more than a few shards. Then, 3 days later, they would complain that they didn’t get a warning message.

I’d suggest a check box something like “Do not show this message again for 10 minutes”. I’d also like to have that applied to salvaging rares so I don’t have to click “Yes” and then restart my salvage kit again to keep salvaging.

In another thread (about salvaging rares) someone suggested adding a a modifier key to suppress the confirmation message, e.g. [shift+click] versus just a [click]. I think that’s better than any sort of permanent or semi-permanent option, in that it means you always have consciously suppress the confirmation — it can never happen because you forgot about an option you selected earlier.

My advice to people new to the trading post is:

  • Right-click to sell the item on the TP.
  • Choose a price in between the lowest sell offer (right side of panel) and highest buy offer (left side).
    • Choosing the highest buy offer guarantees you immediate coin.
    • Choosing a price closer to the lowest sell offers is riskier (since you can be undercut) while offering 20-80% more coin in most cases.

Once you get used to using the TP, there are other techniques you can use for increasing your coin while controlling your risk.

We’ve already seen that the feedback has affected all of the elite specs, some of the other prof mechanics, some of the mastery mechanics, some of the map-specific mechanics, and a few other things.

What else would you need them to publicly acknowledge before you agreed that “we” were being heard?

100% Representation and HoT.

Illconceived Was Na.9781

The “issue” of 100% representation comes up frequently. The debate is always the same:

  • Most people don’t really have an opinion.
  • Some people think it shouldn’t be allowed, as a matter of principle.
  • Some think that those who dislike the concept should just join guilds that don’t require it.

There’s some debate over whether guilds should or should not require it and my advice is always the same: don’t ask for 100% rep unless you have a very specific reason for doing so. Reasons include:

  • Large guilds of 400+ members, as a way to manage overpopulation. That is, remove low-rep players in favor of those willing to rep more often.
  • Theme-specific guilds, usually only limiting to relevant circumstances. For example, WvW guilds with formal raid times can reasonably ask for rep during those times.
  • Low-pop guilds trying to create a specific culture, mood, etc. It’s hard to do that if people are coming and going all the time.

In contrast, most guilds (again in my opinion) should do things that encourage participation rather than require it. Give people a reason to always rep, such as a safe chat/VoIP environment and frequent formal and informal activities. There’s no bigger turn off to a member than to force them to rep a guild, without providing anything in return for that level of commitment.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-09-23-several-prominent-voice-actors-have-voted-to-strike

Wonder if this could have an impact on HoT and living world moving forward.

Voice actors union SAG-AFTRA may initiate a strike if enough of its members vote to do so by 5th October.

This can’t affect HoT, as the actors would have had to complete their studio work weeks ago. Based on how Seasons 1 & 2 were recorded, it also seems likely that some (or even all) of the living story for the next year has probably also been recorded. (Updated dialogue was often added as text-only, as needed.)

If it actually happens, it could affect future Living Story iterations:

  • If ANet might be inclined to limit the amount of dialogue or characters in some ways, to account for potentially increased costs.
  • If it goes on for ages and ages, it might limit ANet’s ability to schedule studio time.

On the whole, I doubt many of us will be able to notice any differences.

Does ANET punish specific players by reducing drops?

No. There’s no evidence that they even have the capability to do this.

Does Magic Find work?

Yes, it most certainly does, over the course of thousands of drops, you will, on average, get better loot with higher MF. This means more mostly the same amount of drops, just a larger fraction of higher-value loot.

  • It doesn’t guarantee getting specific drops, such as precursors or even named exotics of any sort.
  • It doesn’t guarantee that your loot will be better compared to any other individual, unless you are measuring against hundreds and hundreds of drops.

they will tell you they dont… but they do… not even gonna argue with anyone over it so dont bother…

There’s absolutely no evidence for this. What little evidence that players have provided there shows the opposite: that MF absolutely matters in the manner described above.

tl;dr MF only increases your odds of higher-value loot, which is something that is only noticeable when looking at thousands of drops from killing foes.
