Master's salvage kit disappearing

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Illconceived Was Na.9781

There’s also a bug:

  • If the bank is open and
  • If you are salvaging repeatedly from your inventory and
  • If you have salvaged at least one item that requires a warning (“are you sure…”) then
→ the salvage kit will sometimes move to the bank anyhow.

I think the “sometimes” depends on the result of the previous salvage, perhaps you got a sigil or rune — I think that’s when the subsequent salvage will move the kit to the bank.

Apparently, the quips the characters make during critical hits are playing on the wrong flag. A norn should be saying “Hah! Extra damage” when he deals the critical hit, not when he receives it.

Same for other races.

Ability to buy favor with gold

I buy influence with gold all the time, because it’s an easy way to jump start guild improvements. And that’s exactly why favor doesn’t allow it; it defeats the idea that guilds should earn currency by doing guild stuff.

I’ve happily taken advantage of the relatively low-price to create single person guild banks for personal storage. At the same time, I always thought it was a major loophole in the system and I’m glad they are removing it. (And yes, I’d be willing to give up my “advantage” over newer players, if I was given enough time to move stuff out of the banks and compensated for the gold I spent.)

Trading Company and the minimum price bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Illconceived Was Na.9781

A lot of us would like to see these too-low-to-fulfill offers removed. However, I am not sure it’s a good idea for ANet to spend the time or energy to make it happen.

First, it’s not a “bug” — all those offers are legit, as they were made before the current minimum price rules went into effect.

Second, it’s not at all straightforward how those offers should be treated.

  • ANet would need to write and QA a script to ensure that only these offers are canceled, and it does not accidentally affect other offers.
  • ANet would need to train their Customer Service team to address the inevitable deluge of questions about coin that people suddenly found in their pick up windows. This would slow down their ability to help people with other issues.
  • Some people would claim that they got too little coin and would be frustrated that they had no easy way to show this.
  • It’s possible that the script would take a lot of time to run and thus create various levels of confusion, since there would be a period of time in which some offers would be removed but not others.
  • Plus, over time, as people notice these offers, they remove them on their own. There are fewer and fewer too-low bids in the system each day.

In short, it’s probably more trouble than it’s worth, since the current situation is merely annoying at the very worst.

As an alternative, ANet could make it easier for people to see if they have any such offers. Perhaps highlight them in red or orange or put an exclamation point next to them. This allows the community to manage their own queue while increasing the rate at which too-low offers get removed.

You can get “better” functionality by going to the Heart of the Mists (the PvP lobby):

  • Basic vendor
  • Account bank
  • Port to LA
  • Option to return to your original location

Compare that to the portal stone:

  • Enter your home instance
  • Some homes include vendors, some do not.
  • No access to bank, unless you leave instance (in which case, no option to return to previous location).

Your mileage might vary.

I support the OP’s idea: trade off gold + potential rewards + gift of exploration for convenience (all WPs unlocked). However, in practice, I imagine this is more trouble for ANet than it’s worth.

You know there will be dozens if not hundreds of players who will do this and then later, realize that they want the rewards. How, then, does ANet reverse the unlocks? Still others will claim that they only did this on Toons B, C, and D and for some reason E and F can’t get their map rewards.

In other words, the implementation is straightforward; the subsequent support and QA would not be. Easier just to leave things as they are: anyone who wants to unlock WPs can do so, by investing 15-20 minutes (unless they get distracted).

Incorrect crafting prof values in guildroster

It’s not so much ‘incorrect’ as ‘truncated’ — that is, the values are correct, but only part of the number is displaying. (And, sure, that distinction matters little to you or I; it’s still annoying either way.)

It’s partly due to an issue with the columns in the guild panel and partly the fonts used, depending on your screen resolution, display size in the UI, etc.

It’s been reported before (and will keep getting reported). I am hoping that it will become moot when HoT launches, since the entire guild panel is getting a makeover.

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I freaking hated that mission. 20+ minutes are spent literally standing there, killing quickly-killed mobs, waiting for more things to kill.

You must have played it after the nerf

I did it with heroes and hench. It was every bit as boring as Rose implies. Pre-nerf and post. Plus, little things could cause the bonus to fail and you might never know until completing the mission. And the icing on the cake is, every so often, Jalis would rush into danger, and put the entire mission at risk.

However, that’s my objection about the implementation of the mission’s concept. There were definitely some interesting goals and challenges.

Even so, if ANet was going to bring back challenges from GW1 and adapt them to GW2 raids, there are half a dozen others I’d prefer to see over T’head Keep.

If you did it with Heroes, you did it post Nerf. It was a blast, and rather difficult back with “Guild Wars Prophesies” was simply “Guild Wars” since there were no other campaigns.

Agree with OP, bring it back as part of a raid please!

I think we might be discussing two different concepts. The actual mission was changed a long time after you could bring heroes into it, to make it easier to complete. The fight to reclaim the outer fort was much more difficult prior to that ‘nerf’.

It’s also true that the mission was much more difficult in the original campaign (now known as ‘Prophecies’), since there were no heroes and no ‘flag’ to place your hench. I accept that including heroes made the mission easier, but I wouldn’t think of that as a ‘nerf’ to the mission itself (since the benefit of heroes applied to all Prophecies mission).

Anyhow, my point is: while it might have been an interesting challenge and I would support bringing back the concepts to a GW2 raid, I thought the actual implementation in GW1 was bugged and boring — I wouldn’t like to see them replicate it too closely.

Salvage Kits ( lvl 53 bags )

Please read everything before commenting Don’t tell me basic for blues/greens, masters for rares etc.

Apparently, when opening SW bags on a lvl 53, it’s better to use crude over basic so that you have a 0% chance of getting elder wood over hard wood – which is sells for more -.

Can anyone confirm this or explain more in-depth

While that’s true, you also get fewer sigils (minor value) and, in my testing anyhow, less hard wood, too — I get fewer total logs from crude kits compared to basics. However, it’s been close to two years since the last time I systematically compared drop rates across kits, so things might have changed. (Plus, I tested only about 500 items/test and there’s enough variation that there’s a 10-15% chance my numbers were misleading.)

Even so, for me, the difference is completely overwhelmed by the inconvenience of using 15-charge kits versus 25-charge kits, and even more so when compared with using the salvage-o-matic.

tl;dr I prefer to give up 5-10% extra value so that the process of converting champ bags to coin takes less of my time; I like to kill things more than I like to manage my inventory.

Have you considered going free-to-play, too? Then you can pick the same server as your buddies and go with them to WvW. If they end up liking the game enough to buy HOT, you can purchase for your free account (and start sharing loot with your original account). If they end up playing less often and unwilling to spend cash for the full game, you can play with them on FA and swap to your unlocked account.

This allows you to trade some inconvenience in the short run in order to save you in-game gold and real world money.

I don’t remember them actually fixing this particular issue. It’s a known issue easily prevented by having one party member waiting just after the last steam curtain, until Rox & Braham begin their dialogue. Everyone else can continue forward until just before the room. Wait for the dialogue to complete and enter the testing room.

Sure, ANet should fix it at some point, but it typically only affects people once until they learn the trick, so it’s probably really low on their priority list.

Good job adding boss timers for raids....

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Here’s the video where MattVisual explains why this is an issue https://youtu.be/gYA4xOZw41k?t=9m41s

You’ve basically forced people to do the most optimal amount of damage in the smallest amount of time by adding timers…. Which means going full zerker which unfortunately is the current meta, which you have said time and time again wouldn’t work in these raids…. But as matt has explained, they basically needed zerkers or they would fail the encounters…

Anet wtf?…..

You’ve assumed that however people managed to beat the timers during one weekend during the testing phase is going to be the only way. ANet might loosen up the timers, reduce health, increase the amount of ways you can whittle the health bar down, etc. People thought that the Tequatl timer was too short to kill that beastie…and it took a bit to kill the dragon at all. Low & behold, months later, PUGs could do it without caring about which builds people brought.

tl;dr it’s too soon to say whether this is an issue.

Please considering making mail useful.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I think what the OP means is they’d like to see the mail system be more convenient for communicating with their guild. It’s already a very useful system; it’s just restrictive enough to make it useless as a tool for guilds with more than 20 people.

However, there are some compelling reasons why those restrictions are in place: to prevent spamming, to cripple gold sellers, to hurt illicit coin launderers, etc. So any new system would have to take that into account. And unfortunately, there aren’t any easy-to-implement solutions. Anything that involves removing per-minute limits benefits gold sellers and launderers; anything that increases the character limit adds some stress to data management (admittedly, not that much, but it’s still something else to worry about on ANet’s end).

Accordingly, I think your best bet is to ask ANet to adjust the guild panel to meet these typical guild communication needs, rather than trying to over-turn the existing limits on mail. For example, add some sort of “I’m planning on attending” system to the guild panel.

I feel like those things would not have been a priority if your account was hacked. Like why would they bother with instruments which are account bound? Same with the other gem store items. But yeah authenticator is great.

Hackers tend to get rid of anything that takes up space, the better to use an account to farm or launder coin from botting/etc. Still, usually they would strip an account entirely or change very little, so the player doesn’t suspect anything.

This sounds more like a case of angry ex or disgruntled sibling than hacking. Regardless, changing passwords and enabling 2-factor authentication will prevent it.

(Of course, something else could have happened — hopefully, support can help you track down the details or at least fix things for you.)

Guild roster bug?

It’s a result of guild data being on a different server from the rest of the game. It helps performance in combat and with lots of people on the map to keep other stuff to a minimum, but it means that it doesn’t get priority for synchronization, too.

In other words, yes, some data is slower to load than other. Think of it like a web page that is showing some data from your computer, some from the same server as the web page is hosted on, and some from a remote server. Those all load at different speeds.

Was it a map you joined <5 mins before the fight started? Those are the only ones ive seen recently that come close to losing a defense phase (usually north because ppl dont stomp the grub holes)

Seems mostly just bad luck. If it keeps happening only advice i can give is try to get there earlier, but i dont think anything in the fight has changed recently.

No, I was there about half an hour early. I usually get there 45 mins to an hour early … much earlier and I would start bumping into the previous teq!

I’m sure it’s coincidence, but for a while, the later I showed up, the faster the fight went. I’ve since decided that 10-15 min early works best for me; plenty of time to get defense groups and not enough time for people with key roles to start AFKing. Any sooner and I find the /map chat to be unproductive and often dull; any later, and people tend to leave if everything isn’t already perfect.

To Transfer or not to Transfer?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Would there be any benefit to transferring servers before HoT release? Do you expect the expansion shake up WvW servers possibly hurting the community you are moving to or from?

I doubt HoT will have an immediate impact — it will take time for people to get used to the new maps and during that time, I expect to see some people return to WvW (or try it out for the ‘first’ time). Some worlds would be depleted by folks focusing on the HoT story, but that won’t last forever.

tl;dr it will take 3-6 months or longer to see how HoT impacts WvW in the long run.

I have found a guild on a different server to fit my game preferences. My current server does not have a guild like the one i want to transfer to be with (obviously this is WvW related). How does one decide between server friends (over 2 years on a server) and potential new group of active gw2 friends / guild opportunities?

As long as your new world is in the same region, you can keep doing PvE with your current friends. If they are WvW friends, then, ask yourself: what do you really like about your time in Tyria?

  • Hanging out with the same circle of folks, who might or might not be as interested in the same things as you by this point?
  • Doing more of the content that challenges you?

(Obviously, most people will fall somewhere in the middle of that.) I know a lot of people who get bored with games, because they have a strong preference for content, but hang with friends instead (or vice versa). Figure out which matters more for you and make a choice that gives you more of what floats your boat.

Use up all my in game gold (yes all) to transfer or pay real money?

If you can afford to plunk down cash on the game, I’d always do that. It improves your in-game experience (being poor is never that much fun) and of course, it helps out the game by supporting ANet.

The most expensive server move is just over US$20 (1,800 gems). You can save that in a short time by drinking water instead of soda when you eat out, bringing lunch from home, skipping the Starbucks (or just having plain coffee instead of a mocha, frappe mate latte in Haiti with the A-team), etc.

Hi all,

I hate to make a new topic, but nothing comes up when I search the forums, and I can’t tell how current the google search results are.

I played the game at launch for a few months and I’d like to get back into it. However, I want to switch to the server that a friend is on, which is full (jade quarry). Is this possible if I try during off hours, or am I wasting my time?

You can play everything in the game with your friend, even if they are on a different server, except for WvW. As long as you guys are in the same party, you’ll end up in the same map automatically (at worst, you can right-click their portrait and choose “join in ____” to move to their instance).

JQ is likely to remain full for several months, if not longer. If you guys want to WvW together, you might want to consider FA or SoS — T2 servers which have pretty good fights (mostly against TC at the moment).

Can't get Dive Master

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I have one diving spot near the east end waypoint in brisban that I can’t get to work. I put on the goggles, jump off, and land at the bottom but nothing happens and I stay in the goggles. I put in a bug report in game, but I was wondering if anyone on here knows of a work around. It’s my very last dive location (I even managed Not So Secret today and watched it to make sure it counted) so it’s really bothering me. I’ve tried it on several different toons, both 80’s and non 80’s. I’ve tried unequipping everything I was wearing. I’ve tried landing in different spots. I’m running out of ideas. It’s kind of frustrating, especially since after my 50th+ jump from it, somebody else jumps in and has no problem.

As far as I can after reading tons of posts on the Diving Master achievement, the most likely scenario is that you are missing a different dive. In particular, getting credit isn’t necessarily connected to whether you stay in your swimsuit or not.

I’ve done them all (attempted yesterday) and am stuck at 37/38. So are several guild members. Not sure if some haven’t activated but you’re definitely not alone.

Yeah, you’re not alone in finding yourself 34+/38 and not being able to get credit for the achievement.

As suggested to the OP, the most likely scenario is that you didn’t get credit for a different dive than you think. And, unfortunately, the only way to figure out which one(s) you missed are to redo them all.

The problem is that some of the dives have narrow requirements about the jump-off location and where you land — a little this way or that, and you might not get credit. Further, there is (as far as I’ve been able to test) absolutely no way to confirm whether you got credit except by watching the achievement counter: it’s possible to change from swimsuit to armor and not get credit; it’s possible to not swap and get credit, depending on the particular dive.

Your mission, Jim, should you choose to accept it, is to systematically go through all 38 dives, repeating them several times in various ways, to be sure you actually get/got credit.

  • Ideally, join someone who is 0/38. Ask them to put the achievement on their watch list and do exactly what they did, after they confirm they get a +1.
  • Second best is party up with a mesmer and have them use Mimic + Portal and repeat each and every dive, varying from where you jump and where you land.

Does that sound horrendously tedious? Yeah, in fact it is. I was missing 3, even though I had been checking off the dives as I did each. (Unfortunately, I wasn’t watching the chieve and so didn’t notice when it failed to increment.) I went through the entire set once and got +1, a second time for another +1, and finally, about 1/3 of a third complete run for my last +1.

The third time took longer because I was repeating the dives 3-4 times. (Which was possibly even more annoying that it sounds, but fortunately didn’t take as long because I went with another mesmer.)

tl;dr the achievement itself is not bugged; several specific dives are quirky at best. It takes patience and/or some luck to get the chieve.

did Teq suddenly not be the easy Teq?

I would say it’s a combo of a lot of new players, and the update to the world bosses with double the HP, and crit spots.

Eh, it fails with veterans, too. People get complacent about what needs to happen sometimes, especially with Teq defense — very often at Teq, I see people start to leave when the healthbar for their event is below 75% with0 still left. For VW, sometimes people go mid expecting others to kill pustules or go north expecting others to clear a flower.

As long as there are at least 4-5 people/sub-event who know what to do, it ends up fine; if there aren’t that many, it gets ugly.

Disconnect after getting bonus chest

I strongly recommend you open a ticket so you can work with Customer Service to troubleshoot this. If it’s a bug, it’s not very widespread.

FYI as far as I can tell, no one has ever “lost” the contents of the chest due to DCs or otherwise. The contents should be in your inventory, even though the bouncy chest is no longer visible (the same thing happens if you have a certain number of bouncy chests and swap characters — some of the chests are auto-opened to inventory).

Good luck and please let us know what you find out.

When Event DR hits, it’s more drastic than a 10% drop, which is what you are showing; it’s closer to 50% less and you stop getting bouncy chests. It might be that each of these events has a different amount of base XP.

This looks more like the difference in XP after adding or losing buffs. A few of the newer boosters affect XP across all forms of XP, for example.

Try looking at karma, which also drop by set ratios when you are affected by event DR. Karma is affected by fewer buffs and so would be easier to troubleshoot. (You can continue to look at XP, for comparison purposes.)

Good luck and please keep us posted.

How much gear does ANET expect us to carry ?

I agree with Menadena: this is more of a hoarding problem rather than a storage issue. There are all sorts of ways to manage inventory so you have the things you really need, plus some stuff you have for fun or whatever, and still plenty of room for avoiding trips to vendor/bank for long periods.

I’ve helped a lot of folks with this 1:1 and there are other folks that I’ve never been able to help, because they aren’t ready to give up any of their shinies. They save too-valuable-to-use, might-need-it-someday, might-be-valuable-eventually, I-just-like-the-icon, etc and that leaves little room for the stuff they really want.

tl;dr when you’re ready to let go, ask for help in the Players Helping Others forum and you’ll get all sorts of valuable tips and tricks.

And I don’t even see why we’re on this subject. John Smith (lead economist) already stated that this disparity is intentional and isn’t going to change. Though in reality I doubt he actually meant intentional, what he meant was that it doesn’t matter, it isn’t his job to keep the economy in an equitable and enjoyable state for players. His job is to ensure the in game economy doesn’t interfere with ANet making a profit in the real world economy.

You want this crap dealt with? You want a reasonable and equitable game economy? Stop feeding ANet’s bank account until they do something about it.

No one has yet to explain why silk has to be the same price as mithril for the economy to be reasonable or equitable. For that matter, no one has explained what’s wrong with ascended being expensive.

It’s a conceptual problem, not an economic one: people like the idea of being able to farm their own mats, whereas this game deliberately pushes us to use the TP to sell unwanted items and purchase those we want with our funds.

Let’s assume that ANet wants the price of Ascended to be about the same as it has been, but they are willing to be flexible about whether the cost is mostly in cloth or more evenly divided among other mats. We’d still pay 300-500g, but total cost of Heavy, Light, and Medium would be within 10% of each other instead within the current 40%.

  • Would it make any sort of real difference to the community?
  • Would people prefer this so much more than the current system that we’d want ANet to spend the time rebalancing this rather than working on new features, new rewards, or bugs?

It is going to depend on your hard drive and (sometimes) where your copy of the data file is located. Your mileage will definitely vary, so that some people are going to see massive improvement from using an SSD and some people won’t really notice it.

Salvaging items does not add to collectibles.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Illconceived Was Na.9781

It’s definitely confusing and has always worked this way. As a result, if I am going to salvage or forge, my habit now is to first right-click and add item to my collection and/or wardrobe (if available). That way, I don’t have to ‘remember’ which items follow which rules.

Roughly, it’s:

  • Bound items auto-unlock to collections, wardrobe.
  • Armor and weapons unlock on salvage or forge or destruction to both collections and wardrobe.
  • Trinkets and back items do not unlock on forge (nor for salvage, although many can’t be salvaged).
  • Minis only unlock by right-clicking to consume them.

100-Line Limit on Signature

in Players Helping Players

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I hit this limit for some reason a while ago and what I remember is that it counts line breaks and certain symbols as characters. Thus Twitter isn’t a good tool for determining whether you are over the limit or not.

Instead, I just rewrote the sig to be close to 90 characters and avoided the issue.

So, if I were ANet, instead of troubleshooting the actual issue, I’d just put a smaller number in the error message. That way, anyone going slightly over the stated length won’t even realize they did and anyone going over it will get a more useful target, and for which Twitter would be a good tool to use.

Meta builds, does everyone use them?

In other games, having a meta build might be enough; in GW2, you also have to know how to use it. So, meta builds are a great place to start, for people who aren’t good at theory-crafting. They are often a bad place to start for people who don’t like to follow someone else’s style.

HoT available in Gem store?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Hi,

will HoT be available in the ingame Gem store in the future?

I think this would convince a few players to buy it with Gems rather then paying the game only with a credit card online.

I hope this can be arranged in the near future
(Like ie. the Digital Deluxe Edition is also available ingame)

As long as you can convert gold to gems, they won’t make expacs available in the Gem Shop.

While it’s true that all gems that can be exchanged for gold were bought by someone, it’s not true that there would be more gems in the exchange as a result of doing this. In other words,

  • ANet currently gets cash for gems and cash for the expac.
  • In the fantasy scenario, ANet would only get cash for gems.

That change would be fine, if and only if the amount of cash would increase by the amount currently being spent on the expac. Do you really think that people would spend as much additional money on gems as they are currently spending on the expac? If that were true, I would think that ANet could have stuck with the Living Story and avoided the complication of adding an expansion.

Raids taking up World Map space?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

So let me get this straight, ANet is taking away potential Open World Content by sectioning off World Map sections into raids which are blocked off by a high skill ceiling; I see something seriously wrong with this.

You don’t have it straight. ANet is not taking away any potential Open World Content.

If it ever gets to the point where they are running out of map space, they can use the same longitude/latitude used by Raids to also have open world content.

So about silk

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Again, this comes down to a philosophical view, not an economic one:

  • Economic: It’s healthy for prices to fluctuate, going up with the recent increased demand based on Raid-gear speculation and going down when a variety of farms increase the supply. The current recipes keep a stable sink for silk and maintain a high premium for creating ascended gear.
  • Philosophic: a portion of players prefer to personally pick up item parts, perhaps plausibly prohibiting purchasing as a possibility.

ANet could completely overhaul the supply of cloth and the recipes, so that cloth isn’t the most expensive component of each type of ascended armor. But isn’t that a lot of trouble to go through to cater to what amounts to personal preferences? (Even if those preferences are shared by a vocal and thoughtful group of players.)
