All personal birthday gifts will start on the 1st day that your character was created on or re-created on and each year after, use alts to create new characters so you don’t miss out on the first character made.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
I’ve been running around 100%ing some of the lower level maps lately and helping low levellers.
Today I was chatting with someone who said something really true.
He said how the game is extremely complex, but there aren’t very many, if any, adequate tutorials or in game help to guide players.
I’ve been level 80 for many a months now, and I have to agree.
Without visiting the Wiki, or reading considerable amount of information online, your hope of grasping this game is reduced dramatically. This gives new people the wrong idea about how the game works, and makes the initial experience far less positive.
~~
Why aren’t there more step-by-step tutorials and game processes?
You know, like the first time you do a dungeon, instead of having a random letter sent in your mail, have an actual quest to do as part of your story. The NPC’s can explain how there are different ‘paths’ you can take, and how you can earn rewards. And even where to go to spend those rewards.
Or, the first time you pick up a crafting discipline. Have the first 25 levels actually guided for you. Give players one of those Crafting Discipline Starter Kits as part of a level up reward.
Then the NPC can walk you through literally step-by-step. How to deposit collectables, how to craft and how to ‘discover’ new items.sPvP! Have new pvpers start at rank minus 5: “chicken”. and work their way up to Rabbit.
The first tutorial rank, you only have to choose your weapon(the rest is greyed out and predetermined with celestial gear), next rank you learn how to equip armor, then next rank weapons, then next rank traits. Giving pvp skin/rewards as you unlock so you can figure out how to use that too.
This would help ‘ease’ into sPvP, and enjoy it far more in the early stages.~
Here are a bunch of other things that are confusing in GW2 especially for new players.
No ‘holy trinity’
No ‘quests’
Difference between hearts and world events.
How to make ‘combos’ with your character.
What to do with Karma
When to start crafting
When and how to do dungeons (forcing one story mode playthrough would really help this)
What salvaging kit to buy and what to salvage
What items to sell to the merchant
What gathering tools to use, what to gather.
How to use the ‘deposit collectables’ feature
Where to explore (main story line doesn’t take you through all zones. Thus exploring is self-reliant)
Names of stat type: i.e carrion/bezerkers/etc
sPVP!
sPVP Rewards.
WvW & associated rewards.
List of end-game armor options available to the player. (crafting/dungeons/gold/karma)
List of end-game weapon options available. and how to get it.
How to use the mystic forge and why
Here is the GW2 manual https://www.guildwars2.com/en/manual/

I believe the 25th is correct.

E, A through D.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
Unfortunately, no, I’m not. I only wish there were a ‘report’ option on that mail. I didn’t ask for charity and if I were to, I surely would not be asking for such a useless item.
What a sorry state today’s youth is in.
Indeed it is… quite ungrateful nowadays.
What makes you think he/she is young?
A persons age isn’t the issue, It’s ATTITUDE that is in question.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
The only thing I’d like to see gone on commanders is when in main cities, all other commander tags are just fine.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
But, but, I’m having fun, PLEASE don’t take my fun away(being a smart kitten , but I truly am having fun).
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
i think you can spam in map chat with no fear of suppression… but you can be suppressed in say chat…
i don’t know, i don’t talk that much, but i’m not a commander
Map chat also gets suppressed.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
You can turn off player names in the options menu. When you first open the menu its on that screen under User Interface. The 5th option down. Hope this helps.
This doesn’t work in large groups.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
I would just like to be able to MANUALLY TARGET enemies which is IMPOSSIBLE with all the names obstructing targets.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
Since the last LS update all I see is a sea of name-tags, but, only in areas with a semi large to large groups of people(zergs) I THINK it’s a product of the removal of culling and optimizations done and it makes it an impossible task to target a certain enemy by cursor clicking on them leaving you the ONLY OPTION of tabbing to another target, hopefully ANET is working on this.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
That is the Vorpp I’m talking to, the one right in front of the playhouse entrance in DR>
The one you need to talk to is down the steps from the WP and to the right, he is standing in front of a spherical structure with a glowy ball in it. I had a similar issue.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
Seems dead to me…………………………………….
My computer will commit suicide if I run the graphics settings like that…
Was laggy, but it went as expected. Probably 10 fps.
What I used to get before changes in large zergs was 5 to 15 or so FPS to a now whopping(for me anyway) 20 to 30+, a bit of optimization was done it seems, I do get the occasional lag spike, but, that is just affecting movement for me.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
What I am not getting is why is the pick, axe and sickle free of any charge per use when you still had to purchase them to be used just like the salvage kits, do the different dev teams not share what each are doing amongst themselves?
Ask yourself how many times you salvage as opposed to gather.
Assuming each gathering tool was 20g when it was bought (about the price back then), it would take 50,000 or 25,000 (for the Sickle) gathers to pay off.
The salvage kit will take somewhere between 500,000-700,000 depending on when you buy it. Do you salvage 10-15x per gather (of each type [only 5-7 for sickle]) you do?
Actually, you would pretty amazed at how much gathering I do if you were to follow me around on my farming jaunts, after all I’m a massive solo farmer(not a zerg farmer) and my guilds go to guy for said gatherings when needed. I spent a LOT on gathering tools before the everlasting ones, maybe not as much as on salvaging, but, VERY CLOSE. All bank and inventory spaces have been aquired with max bag space with usually only 8 to 12 spots open in my bank from all the stacks of mats

IMO, do it where you feel comfortable with the best connection.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
It seems to be working now. Talked to Vorpp in DR again and this time I was let in. Don’t really need the items on you as long as Achievement gets marked as done.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
From what I’ve read, Vorpp doesn’t actually take the items from you anyway, they remain in your inventory. Which means that most likely his script isn’t actually looking for the items, but rather just looking at the achievement to determine whether you have them or not. And since the achievement updates the moment you get the item and achieves can never be lost, I would imagine deleting the items would have no negative effect on being able to progress the quest. Vorpp will see you have the achieve completed and progress the quest just fine regardless of whether you actually possess the items currently.
Go to Divinity’s Reach and talk to Vorpp in front of the Crown Pavillion.
Hmmmm, TY, seems to be working now.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
Mine is fixed. I just talked to Vorpp.. <.<
Did you delete all 3 components? Where did you go to talk to him?
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
I did the same, destroyed 1. I tried to get other ones but i didnt get them.. But i went to divinity’s reach to that guy and he could open te portal for me anyway and i got new achievements of that. So no problem that you destroyed them! Gotta keep that new crystal thingy you get from him though.
All 3 were destroyed and I only play 1 character so no alts.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
I asked this in general and should have done it here, but, I really need to know from a dev if the items needed by Vorpp can be obtained again on the same character, I have the “Portal Component Procurer” completed but did a very dumb thing while out doing the events and ran out of bag space so I started destroying items that I didn’t care for and destroyed the 3 components(I know I’m a dummy) thinking they were items I picked up that were useless trophies(not knowing at the time I needed them) as there was no description by Vorpp as to what I was looking for. Please tell me I’m not SOL.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
I assume you should be able to get them again. Try the events and if they don’t drop send in a support ticket – gl!
TY I will try that if I must.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
(edited by Im Mudbone.1437)
Or can I get another set of the 3 devices needed by Vorpp to assemble the portal mentioned by him as for some reason(a kitten) I destroyed them trying to clear bag space thinking they were those useless items you get at times like the dwarven keys in Dredgehaunt Cliffs that are trophies. I wish Vorpp would have named the 3 items he needed instead of being mysterious about them. Oh well live and learn I guess, I just hope I’m told they can be obtained again as Vorpp is telling me to return to him with the items but can’t now.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
I have to say, I’m super happy to finally be able to see your bright shining faces in game, however…..what I really need to see are the enemies.
One of the biggest issues for me in this game has been enemies not loading. Now that culling is turned off, do enemies load (even if they’re only basic models), or is it limited to players?
If it does just affect players, I would like to see an option to apply this to enemies. I NEED to see enemies.
I haven’t had any problems seeing NPCs, but, PCs all I see are name tags floating in a train to next event until location is reached and then characters will start appearing, I even have tags turned off. What I do like is the fact that my FPS has tripled since the new story update which I don’t understand.
That’s called optimization. You know, the thing which doesn’t happen according to some trolls.
So that’s what that was, never saw it here before, sorry and not being a troll only honest in saying this is the first optimization I have witnessed, even with that I still like(not love like GW1) GW2.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
(edited by Im Mudbone.1437)
What I find frustrating and hilarious is the fact that after all the work today I got the 3 items needed to get back inside the pavilion only to realize I DESTROYED THE kittenERS. What a LOL moment.

I don’t care that I rarely get exotic drops, because you are guaranteed a lot of rarer items just from Guild Missions. Most of them salvage into ecto, or sell for more, in addition to getting advancements in the game (ascended).
What rarer items? All I get is garbage from them. Only reason I do them are for the commendations.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
Seriously… Is there some sort of account bug or am I just incredibly unlucky? I hear how people get 10 exotics if not more a week. Some players who’ve had their accounts for less than a month get a precursor sell it and make quick bank.
I go months without seeing a single exotic besides what I use!
I’ve only ONCE got an event claim ticket for a skin, and it was compete accident when I didn’t even like them.
My buddy quits and goes to WoW then comes back and gets two precursors two days in a row. I haven’t even gotten a fractal weapon!!!
Is there something wrong with my account, luck is clearly a factor but for this long never getting anything good wtf?
I’m half PvE Half PvP so I only got to R40 showing a clear significant time I spend in PvE and I’m lucky to get a 75ish exotic that sells for under a gold. Something has to be wrong.
Don’’t feel bad, in the year playing GW2 I have gotten a lot of rares but all garbage that sells for 35s TOPS, a handful of exotics, garbage again none selling for over 3-4g, MOST under 1g, NEVER seen an exotic(I think they are a myth, LOL). I guess I’m the unluckiest person on the planet. The RNG despises me, but, I will keep on keeping on as I do like(not love like GW1) GW2.

Im a high ranking military member of a special forces unit that was created to destroy the Great Dragons returning. I helped kill one of the most prominent dragons and a year later not a peep from any of the others? Come on man, three festival type events in a row, its getting droll, advance the main story already.
We may NEVER SEE another dragon without a FULL BLOWN EXPANSION, so, don’t hold your breath.

PERSONAL means just that, it is yours and yours only, very evident.
Let me blow your mind for a second here: Did you know that the PERSONAL modifier can be applied to some, all or none of the aspects of the item and is entirely the prerogative of the game designers? For example, PERSONAL could just as easily refer to the fact that only the owner of the item can summon his PERSONAL merchant. It’s completely reasonable to assume that in some alternate universe the PERSONAL adjective in the item name means that only you can summon your PERSONAL merchant, but that others may use it. The PERSONAL flag is not inappropriate in this situation, even when others can use your PERSONAL merchant.
So no, when there are multiple reasonable options, it is not evident in the description and it is not reasonable to assume that one is true.
It is in GW2.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
So… You know they have a summoned merchant everyone can use, right?
And this^^^^
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
I spent 200G on this because I thought it would be great to pop a merchant whenever I wanted, but then I found out that nobody else can use it. It’s the same thing with the Personal Trader Express. So now I never even want to use either of them because I don’t want to troll everybody into thinking they also can use it. If they aren’t going to let anybody else use the merchant/agent, can they at least make it invisible to them or remove the icon for them?
PERSONAL means just that, it is yours and yours only, very evident.
It is NOT VERY EVIDENT to everybody else when I pop it out, that’s the point. Every time I pull it out in WvW I get like 10 people that try to use it and can’t.
Upon buying said items it is VERY EVIDENT that it is your own personal item not usable by others and it is this last part you are complaining about which you very clearly state that “I thought it would be great to pop a merchant whenever I wanted, but then I found out that nobody else can use it. It’s the same thing with the Personal Trader Express. So now I never even want to use either of them”, so, you shouldn’t have bought them in the first place if you now have this attitude about something that clearly states as being a PERSONAL USE ITEM. I know you’re upset/angry, but, it was an error on your part that could have been avoided from jump.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
What’s so wrong with paying people to do what you dun want to pug? You’re the one paying them in the first place? Gg people.
Did you even read what happened? That was totally despicable.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
@OP
Certainly I can see why you have your opinion… but I disagree with your conclusion. If the game is made for people who feel they must grind, then those people will grind. I don’t feel I have to grind so I don’t grind. I just do what I find is fun.
Mostly the same people over and over again will complain about how unrewarding the game is, or how you have to grind. By the same token, the same people on the forums will say I don’t feel this game is a grind or I don’t feel like I have to grind.
Some people play for rewards and some people play to have fun. Those that find the game fun, people like me, aren’t playing strictly for rewards. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy getting the occasional cool drop…it’s just not that important to me.
So you then have to ask the question how many people are like me and how many people are like you, OP. And no one can answer that question.
But I can say that the number of overflows I have been on every single time there’s a new patch, increases. I find it harder and harder when doing living story content to get to my server.
The first week after a patch, I’m not on my server at all these days, I’m always stuck in overflow. Someone must be enjoying the game.
Toward the end of the second week after a patch, eventually, I’ll have the option to get to my home server. That says something to me.
I agree this game isn’t for everyone. But that doesn’t make it a bad game…it makes it a game that’s not for you. I think it’s quite good as it is…and it keeps getting better.
I feel the same as you, but, there is a double edged sword here, if you do stories, dungeons, your dailies, harvest nodes for mats, get drops to sell/salvage all of which I find fun is still technically considered grinding, not just the zerg trains or solo farmer such as myself. I choose to do this, It’s all about choices and ones personal perception as to what is a grind to you.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
First off, I don’t recall Anet saying that they would “keep” stuff from GW1. Remember that GW1 is not an MMO. To expect all or nearly all aspects from GW1 to transfer over here would be unwise.
1.) I agree that combos as it is are somewhat underpowered. Combos, especially those when working with few players in easy situations don’t last long. However, if you want to play efficient in dungeons, you will see a lot of combos being used for hardcore groups, especially speed runs.
And in WvW, any competent zerg uses combos since they can be the difference between life or death.I agree with you friend on the use of the fire field. If you are in a simple PvE situation, facing off normal mobs or even a veteran – the time and stress to worry about combo fields is not worth it.
If you had a 10-man guild group working on a champion, however, I can understand wanting to stack might.
2.) I agree we need instant build changers. I also think we need a way to /save or /load our armor set ups. Rift had this and it was wonderful.
3.) You’re not allowed because it would be very easy to farm and work against others who are not playing with the guild. Remember that crab karka game? How unfair would it be if you had one entire guild pick on you because they want to get their members to have achievements? It’s not fun.
4.) Tournaments I’m fine with
5.) Don’t mind hardcore mode, but I can imagine the casuals would have a problem with it.
6.) Balance is hard to do, but they constantly adjust it. When you have this many classes in game and weapons, it’s difficult
7.) If you don’t want to dedicate the time and effort for achievement points, then you don’t deserve them. They’re called ‘achievement’ for a reason.
8.) I’m sure a lot of people here would hate soulbound titles
The way you worded it, no, they didn’t say "I don’t recall Anet saying that they would “keep” stuff from GW1.", what they did say was, “you can expect to see the best things from Guild Wars in GW2” and I have yet to see any of the best things from Guild Wars in GW1..

IF a nerf is forthcoming(although I doubt it) I can’t wait and It’s about a week late(it should have happened the day it became aware of). IMO, my take on it is that ANET approves of it and condones the goings on.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
Never done it, as a lowly unbalanced Ranger(the only character I run) that does squat for damage compared to other classes doesn’t register enough damage in large zergs to get kitten and isn’t worth wasting my time. If only ANET would show a little love to this class so we could get some of the good stuff.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
Spiders NEED to despawn each time the boss resets and the entire dodge when it shakes to avoid spiders mechanic should be better conveyed. Like have it fire spider hormones at your or something, I don’t know – but a vague shake with no indication that you’ve been hit by anything or are about to be hit by anything is not a good telegraph for a group-destroying mechanic.
And as a lowly broken and unbalanced Ranger(the only character I play) this path is impossible for me.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
I absolutely loved Guild Wars and its expansions. Played GW2 from BWE1 to present and can only say I like GW2 and will continue my choice(notice I said “my choice”) to grind for dailies/monthlies, AP points, mats, shinies and gold and help my guildies. What happened to statements during the building of GW2 that you could expect to see the best of Guild Wars being brought to GW2? I have yet to see much of Guild Wars in GW2.

When the zerglings start infesting the cursed shore, I can’t do anything there without lagging horribly. So I will be one of the first to try and complete the event, just to disperse the zerg.
I can’t even pick omnomberries in peace anymore.
Really, I want my Onoms to be picked in peace and quiet. {:þ

I have gotten just one of these since release and went directly in the trash the moment I read the first line.

@ OP If people are being verbally abusive, then report them. That’s not cool and isn’t tolerated by A-net. Report them.
That’s unfortunately the way that games in general work, there will always be a small percentage of players who want to get the most with the shortest amount of time, and what you’re seeing now is these elitist ‘zerker’ farmers who have abandoned CoF p1 and took up Champ Farming, they’ll rage in map chat and even harass people via whispers and if your opinion differentiates from theirs they’ll accuse you of ‘QQing’ and call you a ‘n00b’.
I play on Desolation as well and want to tell you these toxic players are a minority and not every guy doing the champ farms out there is an ahole. They didn’t wait for you at a champ spawn or they didn’t let you tag an ember champ, and you’re complaining, then that’s selfish of you. Why should 50 people wait for just you?
If you’re getting kicked because the group isn’t working for ember farm, then you might well be the one holding back 4 other people. Just don’t be so selfish and realize that there are far more other players are trying to do than just you and don’t take it personally.
What? I’m not talking about this personally. I’m talking about the lynch mobs that will attack a person or group of people because maybe they killed a champion without knowing it’s part of your precious farm route.
Please don’t make assumptions about me or put words in my mouth.
But, that’s what they are really good at.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
And it appears ANET condones this behavior, I have never participated in these zerg trains for that reason.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
Different people interpret it differently, how about let owner of the game decide?
Thar’s why the nerfs instead of bans to the not as intended zergs.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
Play how you want guys, except when you get good loot!
Play how you want guys, except don’t exploit.
It’s not exploiting. This exact same thing happened before, and all ANet did was make it so loot doesn’t drop from mobs so that people would want to complete the event instead. No bans, no big speech about how it was an exploit. It’s not an exploit to not complete an event.
PURPOSELY not completing events is also not as intended, which, loosely is defined as an exploit.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
I wish everyone who answers here support their “claims” with an official link.
I am also curious how a server gets a “High Population” where I don’t see much people other than on LA, Queensdale, DR and Frostgorge.
Sorry, I’m going to put on my tin foil hat and say that it’s about making it cost massive $$ for xfers. If I wanted to go to a less populated server for let’s say… wvw… I’d have to pay 80 gold unless I go to tier 8. I’ve guested all over and someone has gone to servers such as this and they tell me they’re ghost towns. There’s no incentive and being greedy is just hurting your game.
I would love to see some data as well
Good luck getting informed data.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
Exactlly WHAT makes him/her/it a bot? He/she/it could and MOST LIKELY is nothing more than someone just being a pain. I SERIOUSLY DOUBT he/she/it is a bot.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
I think it’s just because ANET says so.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
It’s all about the Server. On mine I can’t walk a minute on ANY Map without seeing people running around doing stuff. There are a ton of people on my server and I get in a Overflow everytime in Lions Arch, the Pavillion and any Area where a Meta Event happens when I’m not fast enough.
So I got cirous, and decided to check a few areas.
I decided to check LA, and the two most common champion farms in CS. I assume you will include 7 pm central as prime time, but who knows. The server is Borlis Pass. Which as I’m testing is listed as “very high”. I’m not sure what very high is, but I can post more screen shots. The only thing we have a queue on is the actual pavilion, which btw had an artificially low number set on it I will let others speculate why.
You are welcome to check the time stamps on the mini map.
edit
I absolutely agree it’s about what server you are on. It’s just that there are only 4 or 5 servers where you can actually see people. Most of the servers are just ghost towns. You can see people in a few maps, or just in the living story area. Otherwise it’s dead.
I don’t understand what you are trying to show in those screenshots, the LA screeny has maybe 8 people in it(culling maybe?) the other two(Cursed Shore I guess) has absolutely no-one but you and a couple bad-guy NPCs just standing around(super culling?).
