Where does it say that? o.O
It’s in the patch notes that appeared at the top of your forum when you came on, as well as supplied in the opening post…
all is vain
I’m glad they addressed the problem instead of nerfing backstab. I have a bit of faith now. AS was the problem with Backstab gibbing kitten unable to dodge. Kudos to Anet.
Time to mess around and see how this new AS could be applied / added to create new builds.
I am not sure this is a nerf overal…
If you precast it before Steal(especially with the trait Signets of Power),it will cover Mug,C&D and Backstab +2 more(HS comes in mind).I have macroed it with Steal, and it works like a charm.
I 100% agree with these two. This is a brilliant balance tweak that has restored my faith in Anet’s balancing abilities. Good job, Anet!
all is vain
Wtf are you talking about? The nerf to Assasin’s Signet was 100% required and has turned out to be an awesome balance tweak. Instead of a single attack being buffed, we now have 5 attacks being buffed. This opens up the paths for new builds such as Unload/blind builds and more.
Excellent tweak Anet, well done.
all is vain
Seriously, what’s with the complaints? This isn’t so much a nerf as a very good balance tweak. The Signet is now viable with multiple builds instead of just one, and opened up more options for Unload and other combos.
Excellent tweak Anet, very glad that you didn’t listen to the QQ and just nerf BS. My faith in your balancing abilities has been restored.

I love people who use berserker stance and take 50% more damage then get hit for 19k with backstab.
oh i have berseker stance on a mesmer? and 19k hit
why are only thiefs on SPVP? .. because they are OP
You’re a Mesmer and you’re complaining that Thieves are OP? LOL.
all is vain
how does he have 22k HP, does he have 3 orbs?
The enemies don’t seem to have an orb.
You do realise that Thieves can have above 14k HP… right?
all is vain
You’re right to be skeptical, Chakuna, because I’m quite certain that there is no render bug in sPvP…
OP: It’s exactly as Chakuna is saying, you were hit by a single stealthed Heartseeker which is working as intended.
all is vain
Honestly, I had a lot of faith in Anet’s balance team but after they nerfed PW and repeatedly refuse to acknowledge that Quickness is even an issue, most of that is gone.
all is vain
My thoughts are that you are incorrect. The instantcast combo of Steal is not OP and should NOT be changed. The only thing that is OP about the Backstab combo is the Assasin’s Signet. 150% is just too much and should be toned to 100% or lower.
all is vain
For crying out loud, the only thing that is OP about the Thief class — and I mean only in the most literal sense possible — is the utility Assasin’s Signet. Once that is nerfed to 100% or something, everything will be fine when it comes to damage.
Haste (our Quickness ability) is tied to an issue with all classes, so that one doesn’t count, exactly.
all is vain
I suggest that the evade period and the stun duration scale down with the duration of the root/channel as far as pistol whip is concerned.
Pistol Whip isn’t even an issue, it never was. It should be returned to its previous strength and a serious nerf/balance tweak be dealt to Quickness across all classes. That’s the problem, not PW. The root on PW more than makes up for the evade and 0.5 second stun (remember, it’s half a second for crying out loud).
all is vain
I still think that 1.5x would still be far too much of a problem. In GW it was limited to 33%, and it worked perfectly. The problem with Quickness is that it’s just too kitten fast when combined with abilities like HB and PW.
EDIT: Seriously? I understand that language needs to be filtered on the forums to keep it family friendly, but filtering d_mn? Come on, next you’ll be filtering “hell”.
all is vain
(edited by Incurafy.6329)
Yes OP thieves are overpowered and boring, so if you level a OP/boring class to 80 first and then switch to an alt, you’ll have to choose between being overpowered and not having fun, or having fun and feeling like you need to complain on the forums a lot. Welcome to my world.
Look, dude, you were destroyed by a few dozen Thieves, we get it, but stop spamming our forum with crap about how OP we are. Roll a Thief, learn the class, then learn how to counter it on your main. Complaining on the forum doesn’t help.
all is vain
Or maybe it’s because we’re sick and tired of being hit by nerfs that don’t even make sense? Any Thief worth his salt will admit straight up that Pistol Whip was (and to an extent, still is) OP when combined with Haste (our Quickness ability), but without it, it was a mediocre skill in PvP and an excellent skill in PvE.
So basically you’re upset about needless nerfs, but you explain how PW just got a needed nerf?
As I’ve said before, quickness is a problem. When and if they address it, they’re going to hit multiple classes, multiple builds, traits, and weaponry. They’ve got a lot to consider when changing quickness as opposed to changing one particular skill while using quickness.
Are you kidding me? Did you even read my post? I did NOT explain how PW got a “needed” post at all. What the kitten did you just read? Clearly it wasn’t my post.
Also, yeah, as I said in the post that you didn’t even read, QUICKNESS is the issue, PW isn’t/wasn’t.
Also, I know that I’m wasting my time here because you’re obviously either 8 years old or a troll, but have you ever actually rolled a Thief and played it for more than five minutes? Anyone who thinks that any aspect of the class is just a 2 or 3 button wonder is an absolute moron.
A moron is someone who thinks that thieves weren’t pressing ‘22222222’ to win until the Heartseeker nerf, and then weren’t popping Haste and pressing ‘33333333’ to win until the PW nerf. That was the whole reason for those nerfs. The thief was a button mash hero.
So when thieves are popping sin sig in stealth, hitting 1, and winning, seeing as how that’s a “3-button-wonder”, I would assume one of those buttons is getting a nerf.
Probably not backstab, probably sin sig.
Just saying, better to be prepared than to be wasting your time crying about it on the forums when it happens.
A moron is someone who thinks that any good Thief was actually spam Heartseeker to win fights (spamming didn’t actually work, contrary to what you probably found after being killed by one Thief who was 10x better than you), or spamming PW with Haste and nothing else. Also, thinking that Backstab is an auto-win is abokittenely kittening stupid.

I have absolutely no idea, but it would be good to find out. If you can be bothered, go to sPvP and grab some steady weapons and test it out on golems until you know the answer.

Woh man, Devildoc, WOH, Thief autoattack on a Sword is an AoE, that kitten is WAY to OP! Anything but dagger auto from 1200 range is WAY to OP!!!
all is vain
The only reason thieves make topics like this is because they kitten well know they are OP and they are afraid they cant play there 2 / 3 button roflcopter class anymore after the nerfs are done.
After the recent 15% damage nerf, it’s even worse in PvP without quickness and mediocre in PvE. In fact, it actually does less damage than the auto-attack chain! Despite the fact that the skill itself was fine without Haste, Anet still hit it with the nerf bat, rather than addressing the game wide issue of Quickness abilities.
Also, I know that I’m wasting my time here because you’re obviously either 8 years old or a troll, but have you ever actually rolled a Thief and played it for more than five minutes? Anyone who thinks that any aspect of the class is just a 2 or 3 button wonder is an absolute moron.
Tl;dr – You’re an idiot. Either learn to play, roll a Thief and learn the class before commenting, or kitten off.

I’m playing a Sylvari, and I love it, but the animations/run speed/etc feels identical to one of my human characters. In fact, I’m 99.99% sure that they are.
Personally, I think that you should go check out the racial medium armour for the two different races and see which you like the best. The Sylvari racial armour is all leafy and stuff so not a lot of people like it. That being said, if you like it, then go for a Sylvari, we’re awesome! :P
Oh, and when you make your character, choose Anonymity for the starter hood and then keep it in your bank account NO MATTER WHAT. You’ll find out later on in the game that there are practically no hoods for medium armour (besides the Order of Whispers hood, to name like, one of maybe three or something) and you’ll be kicking yourself if you can’t just transmute your level 0 starter hood into something awesome.
Hope I helped!
;)

I’m sorry, but please, if you’re going to make suggestions, then use actusl GW2 terms. I didn’t understand a word of this.

You should be reported. For your grammar skills.
Going by the structure of your post I’d say that you’re not much better.

Just another butthurt 13 year old who got destroyed by a better player than himself, nothing to see here; obvious troll is obvious.
all is vain
Honestly, you don’t even need to add those buffs to see if it becomes a viable skill or not. All that has to be done is fix the pathing issue, that’s it. Adding buffs to an otherwise good skill is just stupid.
all is vain
Seriously? I just don’t get it. Neither of these nerfs make any sense in terms of balancing and all they did to BV was make it worse than DV due to the remaining cast time and .05 second difference.
As for PW, it’s now even worse in PvE and Quickness still remains a problem across all classes, yay.

Glad to see you didn’t just pull this out of your kitten and have a whole list of reasons to believe this with evidence to back it up. Good job.

I’ve never done that mission, but is he a melee boss? Because if so you should be able to just kite him pretty easily with a shortbow making use of DS or P/D with CnD and sneak attack.
all is vain
Assuming you were in WvW, also keep in mind that you way have witnessed the current server side issue with “player culling” where players aren’t rendering properly on the screen, especially after stealth.
Did he attack you multiple times while IN stealth, or was it always just one Sneak Attack followed by visibility?
all is vain
Thanks for the replies, I was unaware of the terrain and movement being a problem. When tbe game first launched I would miss over and over again evwn in PvE, so I thoughtit may have been fixed. I’ll test it in PvP instead and see what happens.
Thanks.
all is vain
It’s just the background for the story of your character, although I don’t think that particular option matters at all for anything besides selecting your mask/hood. Just go with the one with the hood and keep it in your bank NO MATTER WHAT. There’s a severe lack of hoods in this game and you’ll regret not being able to transmute it at a higher level if you ever want to wear a hood.

I just finished testing FS in PvE on a mob and was able to use it with 100% accuracy, including when I spammed it 3+ times. If somebody else can test it and confirm whether or not Anet have fixed it I would really appreciate it.
It’s not in the latest patch notes, but maybe it was a hidden update? I’m not sure why it would be hidden though.
all is vain
You can’t stay perma-stealthed and you definitely cannot attack more than once while stealthed. What you saw is the result of an issue with “player culling” in WvW where players (and in some cases, entire zergs) are not rendering properly or in time thus resulting in what appears to be invisible players who can attack while stealthed.
Do a forum search for “player culling” and you’ll find PLENTY of information on it. Hope I helped.
all is vain
There may be work that needs doing, but it’s a persistent problem across all teleport skills. Generally, if you don’t have line of sight and can’t walk to it directly without jumping then you won’t be able to teleport there.
all is vain
As Dronin said, the skill itself is bugged and needs a rework. Stupidly, the Ranger has the same skill on their Sword 3 (except it’s a roll not a sort of dodge thing) and it works flawlessly.
all is vain
If this is in WvW then it’s an issue with “player culling”. You’ll find plenty of information on it if you do a forum search for it.
Hope this helped.

Yeah, there are quite a lot of Thieves in WvW and some of the most fun on a a Thief is to be had there. Search for “guild wars 2 wild bill thief wvw” or something along those lines on YouTube and you’ll find a great Thief in WvW who uses P/D for the condition bleeds. I’d link it to you but I’m on a phone.

This post is just plain stupid, and as usual, focusses on HS/PW as though they’re broken. They’re perfectly fine as is, it’s Haste and therefore Quickness that is the biggest problem for all burst builds across all classes. The speed needs to be decreased to 25/33% across all classes.

You’re a kittening idiot. What are you, llike 12 and got just rolled by a player better than you? kitten off and L2P or kitten and find another game where we don’t have to listen to your whinging about stupid kitten like this.

What do you mean by the “cookie-cutter spec”? Also, please elaborate on what you mean by beginner friendly. If you just sat there spamming two then you played a horrible, horrible Thief.

nearly unlimit stealth, unstoppable, burst damage.
LOL, yeah… something like that.
Why is it that this is the only post I can see in this whole thread? I can’t even see the OP.

You can keep BP up with a couple of initiative traits (I can’t remember which ones), or you can use the D/P dual skill for a five second blind and shadowstep to target.
For a fun variation of a condition build you can use D/D for LDP and P/D for the auto-1 bleed application combined with dancing dagger for a constant semi-AoE cripple. You can also play around with using CnD on the P/D set for the pistol stealth attack that applies five stacks of bleeds.

You’re an idiot if you seriously expect us to believe that you took a 20k pistol whip. I play a Thief and I’m telling you now, that’s a lie.

The problem with an Initiative based stealth is that it would give us the ability to go into stealth a ridiculous amount of times during a single fight. As unfortunate as it is that you can’t use a stealth attack ability as a ranged Thief, is it really necessary? There are already several utilities you could use for that burst of damage/stun and using CnD to obtain a stealth isn’t half bad if you combine it with Steal.

I can’t give you a lengthy reply right now (on a break at work), but just for the sake of pointing it out, your English is better than that of most native English speakers. There’s no need to apologise for well written and easy to understand posts. Thumbs up to you for being so fluent, even if you do make an odd mistake here and there.

Myself and two friends got our butts handed to us on a golden platter by a Thief who was better than all three of us combined. I demand compensation in the form of a nerf for the Thief class and a buff for my class.
Thank you.

Fair post, just keep in mind that a lot of the time it’s used to get away from the attacking mobs in an attempt to heal safely. If this hasn’t usually been the case in your experience, then I agree, that must be frustrating as hell.

Seriously? This video is crap, it’s a generic HB combo Warrior and half of the video is him getting hiskitten kicked… wow, just wow.
all is vain
Lmfao, that was hilarious, even if it was quite untrue.
For the sake of pointing it out, Heartseeker was nerfed on the 14th of September. Also, the Thief has the second lowest health pool in the game, only slightly above Elementalist, which when combined with medium armour, makes them one of the squishiest classes in the game.
all is vain
(edited by Incurafy.6329)
Keep in mind that Thieves where medium armour and have the second lowest health pool in the game only slightly above Elementalists; in other words, they are incredibly squishy. Also, Thieves damage is done in bursts, not consistently like the Warrior, another trade-off that comes with the low survivability in direct combat.
