I kid you not, at some point there was orange juice on the screen which once was on my mouth. This thread delivers. Worst part is, how sad and truthful this all is.

AAAAAH sorry, thats not how this thread goes!

The other day I was roaming on WvW and suddenly this ele comes out of absolutely nowhere, uses a dragon tooth instantly and gets 10k out of 12k hp, follows up with 3 phoenix, by the time I was able to retaliate he had disappeared again. Somehow I survived all that by using all my 75secs+ CD then 3 seconds later BAM, same tactic again, out of dodges and out of CDs he uses his manaless spells and spam them instantly. I managed to get him to 10% but he disappeared again. 10 seconds later same tactic, at that point I quitted the game, same reason allmy friends did.

My first response to this patch was to be angry and infuriated. Now that I’ve had time to think about the patch some more, I still hate it, but at least I can supply some feedback.

As an almost exclusively PvP player with only one level 80 and a bunch of low level PvP alts, I feel like this patch has completely screwed me over. Each of my characters had a carefully crafted appearance, but once the patch hit, that completely disappeared, I was given 42 charges, and then I was told that once I was out of those charges I’d have to grind to earn more or buy them with gems.

Like many, I’m one of those players who loves to change their characters looks, and my main character changed appearance every 5 minutes. Now that this patch is here, that’s no longer possible. Not only this, but now to get the full appearance of my characters back, I have to go and level them all up just to be able to access the shoulder and head skins that they previously had.

Additionally, I recently started doing a little bit of low level PvE on my low level Thief alt, so my inventory is full of PvE related items, including low level weapons and equipment that I’m swapping as I level up. Now that this patch has hit, I have to keep a separate set of armour for PvP just so that I don’t have to re-transmute every time, then I have to keep separate weapons and then try and remember which weapons have skins on them in PvP and which don’t so that I don’t sell them to a merchant.

Finally, there is now absolutely no way whatsoever to tell if a person is a high rank in PvP without them doing the /rank emote or telling you thanks to the fact that all PvE items are available in PvP. This completely devalues high rank PvP skins that were hard to obtain in PvP and easy to obtain in PvE and vice versa.

The whole thing is an absolute mess and I’m very disappointed that this patch actually made it to live without these issues being addressed. I don’t want to have to grind to get my characters back to level 11 just to get their old appearances back, I don’t want to have to grind to be able to get TC’s for when I want to change my characters appearance, and I don’t want to have to buy one of those bag things that won’t let you sell the items in it to a merchant just so that I don’t sell my PvP weapons.

The most obvious solution is to separate PvP and PvE gear again and TC’s free in the HotM. I know that’s just practically reversing what was done, but honestly? This portion of the patch is absolutely terrible and I’m still yet to actually hear the reason why it was done. Saying that it was done to combine PvP and PvE isn’t an explanation, it’s just saying what was done. Yes, you’re right, you did combine PvP and PvE, but why did you do it?

TL;DR:

  • Having PvP alts is now a nightmare, we shouldn’t have to grind just to get their appearances right.
  • Having PvP and PvE gear combined is a nightmare of inventory management with no locker to store the billion skins you’re not using without having to grind/pay for more TC’s.
  • The wardrobe system is a complete mess, if you are a person who frequently changes your characters appearances in PvP you’re now forced to grind or buy gems in order to do so.
  • Combining PvP and PvE gear devalues previously hard to obtain PvP skins, and vice versa.

Solution:

  • Split PvP and PvE gear again. Make the HotM contain free TC’s.

None of this even covers the grind-gated new skills and traits, but that’s a post for another thread.

Of course it works without the trinity or dedicated healers, just look at the player hosted 2v2/3v3 tournaments in the past few months!

What we need is 2v2/3v3 with no respawns, that’s what many of us were hoping for when we asked for TDM.

Every PvP game has unlockable skills.
It’s not a bad thing.

Bad gameplay… bad patches that don’t fix bad gameplay… now that destroys a game.

When one of the biggest draws and promotions about GW2 PvP was that everybody is on an equal playing field with everything unlocked and no advantages aside from player skill, yeah, it’s a bad thing. In fact, these changes completely undermine the entire premise of GW2 PvP to the point that I don’t even trust Anet to improve PvP any more.

Not to mention the changes to skins and requiring us to grind for TC’s or buy them with gems (loliwonderwhy), just so that we can change our characters, despite the fact that a lot of us changed them like every 5 minutes. Oh, and did I mention those of us who have a dozen PvP alts because we don’t enjoy PvE?

This update = 60% good, 40% absolutely terrible.

This is false, the 9 seconds of initiative lost is a cooldown! That 9 initiative takes 9 seconds to regenerate passively, making it a 9 second cooldown.

This really isn’t hard to understand people.

What you guys fail to realise is that initiative is a cooldown mechanic. If you interrupt the HS into BP then you have cost them 3 initiative which takes 3 seconds to regenerate passively. That means that every time you interrupt a Thief skill that costs initiative, you take away from them the amount of seconds it requires to get it back.

Not to mention that if they dropped BP and then you interrupted HS, they’ve lost 9 initiative, which is a 9 second cooldown to regain.

I seriously can’t explain this in any other way. Thief = interruptible, just like every other profession.

It’s called internal consistency. No one is asking for a real life application of physics. But within the stated rules of physics in game, it should be consistent.

I do believe that you are the one asking for consistency with the known laws of physics. You quite literally suggested that the stake shouldn’t miss because invisibility != intangibility. This is a video game where the known laws of physics need not apply.

Let me break it down for you though, because kitten, why not right? In the lore of Guild Wars, the Thief uses the same branch of magic as the Mesmer, denial magic, which means that all sorts of so far unknown magical properties and affects may take place when a Thief uses their magic. For example, the fact that the Thief is able to use denial magic to place a field of invisibility that only affects himself and others of his choosing (Shadow Refuge) suggests a certain level of control over these properties. This means that, as far as the developers and designers are concerned, practically everything can be explained away by the fact that THIS IS A VIDEO GAME.

Last I checked, when my Thief stomps an enemy, a ghostly red wraith materialises from thin air, pierces them through the heart, then returns from whence it came. On the other hand, my Warrior summons a cow from the heavens that lands butt-first on the opponent, humiliating them for their friends to laugh at in the pub on Friday nights for all eternity.

In other words, you’re creating this so-called “consistency” to suit your argument when, in fact, your argument has no grounding in the internal logic of the game whatsoever. You and your team were outplayed in a team versus team mode of PvP and you’re just upset by that fact. Get over it, learn to play, and quit trying to dumb down the game even further by removing legitimate tactics (and not to mention destroying the usefulness of both Shadow Refuge and Mass Invisibility in PvP, lol).

If you don’t throw some toughness in there you’re going to go down VERY easily to any decent roamer (especially Thieves and Warriors). Try throwing some Soldiers in your armour slots and earrings.

Taking Vigorous Recovery is silly without Withdraw, having a 30s CD on your heal means that your vigour uptime will be quite pitiful. I’d also suggest taking Pain Response or Quick Recovery over Fleet of Foot. Finally, I’d personally prefer Thrill of the Crime for the Swiftness + Fury.

Also, you’d be better off with Runes of the Traveller, all you’re getting from those runes is some swiftness which won’t last long anyway. Unless you want to get Centaur runes + Withdraw for perma-swiftness, I wouldn’t bother with any other swiftness runes.

As for your Sigils, Sigil of Rage hasn’t been popular for well over a year, especially since the Quickness nerfs. I’d take Sigil of Air or Fire over that any day. The Sigil of Torment seems a bit useless too, especially considering you have very limited condition damage and you’re not really going to be doing much with it. You’d be better off with a Fire or Energy sigil.

Finally, your foods are sound, but you don’t have the Toughness to take advantage of Sharpening Stones, slot some Soldier armour/trinkets to gain that advantage and find a healthy mix.

NOTE: Since Crit Damage % is being removed from PvE/WvW in an upcoming update and replaced with a numerical stat named Ferocity, I would seriously hold off getting ANY Ascended piece until we know how the math works, you could end up wasting a lot of time and resources.

Most likely running something like 5/0/30/30/5 with Inspiring Battle Standard + Healing Signet. With that build you regenerate ~800hp/s. If you’re doing less damage than that (and you may be, considering he was probably using Settlers amulet + Melandru runes), he’ll just regenerate through the whole thing.

The key to taking down this build is Shortbow #2 shotgunning for bleeds (if you’re using 10/30/0/0/30 you have the condition damage for it thanks to Trickery) and #4 for the poison field to reduce that healing by 33% down to ~530.

There’s no point blinding him because he hits like a wet noodle anyway, even as a glass cannon you should be able to survive the pitiful amount of damage if you properly evade and avoid attacks while using the Shortbow.

I support the idea of making PvP F2P with 1-3 character slots available (and extra slots costing more than they would if you owned the game, or something), but ONLY after every single last piece of infrastructure has been laid and works perfectly.

This includes:

  • Ladders
  • Build templates
  • Automated daily/weekly/monthly tournaments
  • PROPER TUTORIALS
  • Pre-made builds that don’t totally suck like the current ones. No offence Anet, I love you guys, but your default builds are terribad.
  • Everything I’ve forgotten.

The PvP in this game isn’t even halfway finished now, releasing it F2P would just make GW2 PvP even more of a laughing stock. The combat system is fantastic, but the actual PvP infrastructure isn’t.

I agree completely with TheGuy’s latest post. The set is actually perfect right now and buffing it is going to end up with a nerf to Pistol Whip. It’s not a question of if, it’s a question of when, just as happened to S/D with the unnecessary nerf to FS/LS.

Please, leave Pistol Whip alone, it’s actually perfect as it is now.

… combined makes the most OP orb carrier I’ve ever played. Seriously, just try it out sometime, you’ll be amazed how fast you get there while evading the entire time.

It’s still possible with careful rotation of utilities you wouldn’t have had to use prior to the nerf. This was established fairly quickly after the patch.

I was told by a hambow 2.0 Warrior yesterday that Thief is actually the easiest class in the game to play in tPvP because of the ability to evade constantly, perma-stealth, do massive cleave DPS, and reset the fight at will.

The most hilarious part? I was using 10/30/0/0/30 SB + D/P, where evades are practically non-existent, perma-stealth is impossible, cleave doesn’t exist, and the ability to reset a fight does absolutely nothing for your team.

In other words, people have no kittening idea how Thieves work, but being killed by one obviously means that they’re OP, there’s no other answer.

This is a buff to Shortbow, not an indirect nerf, how you could even think of it like that is beyond me. Even if you don’t use it a lot in WvW, it’s still a buff to Shortbow when you are using it. Those of us who use it 90% of the time in tPvP are also getting a buff through this.

Oh hell no, that would be the go-to amulet for pretty much every power build with no exceptions, it would kill Berserker, Soldier, and Barbarian amulets, lol. :P

Also, why anyone would suggest a Dire amulet in PvP is beyond me.

The main reason I watch the streams and not just read compiled patch notes after the fact is because I find the developers hilarious. They’re just normal guys like us, and despite their shortcomings, they’re great to play with (when we can) and great to watch on stream.

That being said, I suppose they could take things just a little bit more seriously in order to get a PROPER amount of screen time for every class (Thief mentioned for exactly 3.2 seconds, seriously?) and not run out of time, but only if they don’t sacrifice their humanity to do so. I don’t want to watch a bunch of robots recite patch notes.

Also, Helseth is a boring twit with a few good ideas and mostly bad ones. Honestly, the only reason any one gives a kitten about his streams is because he’s so confrontational.

I’ve been saying this since they first introduced unlocking skills, and I’ll say it again:

Unlocking skills, traits, or equipment of any kind, no matter the cost, goes against everything Guild Wars 2 PvP stands for and directly undermines the premise of PvP in this game as advertised since before the game even launched, bringing many PvP-oriented players to the game.

The new heals have been out for a while now, and I am yet to unlock a single one of them. The reason (besides Skelk Venom being hilariously bad)? Despite playing almost every day, I still can’t afford to unlock just one skill while I also grind for armour sets.

If Arena Net continues on this dangerous path of creating imbalance and destroying the even playing field of PvP, I, and many others, will be quitting, and the already small tPvP scene that we have will get even smaller.

Please, Arena Net, don’t continue down this path, keep the even playing field of PvP and don’t go against everything that you have stood for. I’ve heard claims that a good portion of the Arena Net staff consider themselves hardcore PvP players; if this is true, then prove it by making the right decision.

No. Death match should never be in GW2.

Instead, it should be disguised as a no respawn King of the Hill. Why? Thieves can just perma stealth and hide in the corner until they are found. Then they’ll stealthed away and hide in another corner.

  1. “Permastealth” with D/P + Infusion of Shadows was insanely easy to counter, but no longer exists.
  2. The new “permastealth” isn’t possible without using utilities with lengthy cooldowns and ridiculously obvious tells.
  3. The goal of TDM is to kill your opponents. A useless Thief wasting his utilities to be useless and “permastealth” in a corner is absolutely useless in a TDM setting.

Nice try though, you may want to remove Thief from your signature.

There is no “heal on dodge” trait, but Assassin’s Reward (30 in Acro) offers an abysmally small amount of healing on initiative use, which may have been what you witnessed as the heal. Withdraw is also a dodge, and is one of our heals which has a 15s CD and rolls you back while evading.

As for stealthing constantly, this isn’t really a thing any more, so you’re going to have to be a hell of a lot more specific for us to be able to help you understand what build it was.

What weapon sets were they using, for example? Were their autoattacks fast, or slow? If they were fast, it was dagger mainhand, if they were slow, it was sword mainhand.

Please, be more specific, because there is quite honestly no “all-powerful build” that does what you describe, it’s simply not possible and would be blatantly OP.
