I agree with this, I generally only play with friends/guildies, but for example l was running fractals 38 with a pug last night I had opened the instance and we were through two fractals, and close to the end of the third when I started getting really bad lag and disconnecting, I couldn’t leave the group because I was the instance owner, otherwise I could’ve dropped group and allowed someone else to take my spot that could actually move.

Uh, Norn. If I were a human living in Hoelbrak I’d already have furs to protect myself and visitors from the brisk mountain air
.
(like I needed another excuse to go hunting!)
very good then, your mention of separatist propaganda followed by the mention of collecting fur for a krait to wear sounded quite dangerous (it could be considered that you consider yourself a human separatist sympathizer willing to fight against charr) we’ll be keeping an eye on you nike, stay out of trouble.
Krait if you are interested in a bit of sport perform the necessary paperwork and I would be happy to take you to a gladiatorial bout in the black citadel, be warned though not to wander too far from the citadel as there are still many ghosts haunting the area around our beautiful city. On another note what class are you in krait society, are you an Oratuss?

I know but it’s blocks are removed before aegis is, so if you already have your passive aegis on as a guardian it allows you to screw up and still keep your damage boost is what I was saying. if you get what I mean.
Karl Marx: “Go away! Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”
hmm I wonder why that is considered the highest dps build for guards, I know unscathed contender could be hard to keep up but if I remember correctly focus 5 blocks have to be broken before aegis can be removed.
Either way thank you for the information as I said earlier I don’t run guard much anymore.
Karl Marx: “Go away! Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”
It would also be nice to see this as an added option to legendaries, as I believe givers was the only stat type you couldn’t change your legendary to.
Karl Marx: “Go away! Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”
I believe it was said somewhere that it was originally intended for release (as was the tengu as a playable race) but it had to be put off because NCsoft wanted the game released. I could be wrong but I thought I read that somewhere.
Karl Marx: “Go away! Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”
I’m assuming that the comparison is between a engineer build of 20/25/0/0/25 (once modified ammunition gets its upgrade in the next patch) 10%(enduring damage) 10%(modified ammunition assuming 5 conditions) 5% (target the maimed) 10% (explosive powder)
compared against a guardian’s 10/30/0/0/10 (if someone else could put in the other 20 points would be appreciated haven’t played my zerk guard in a while) possible damage modifiers 20% (Unscathed Contender) 5% (powerful blades) 10% (radiant power) 10% (fiery wrath) If a guard can keep up unscathed contender the modifiers will make it hit quite a bit harder
[on a side note one handed strength far outshines target the weak for crit chance, and scope is useless if you are only using bomb kit]
this does not include the benefit that engineers get though through their more offensive stat points in their trait lines.
all of this being said I still completely agree that kits, conjured weapons, and banners should all be upgraded to ascended damage since you will now be capable of having a full set of ascended gear.

These topics are getting old. There is nothing to discuss. If you wanted a discussion it should have happened months ago not now on the verge of releasing.
this topic started that many months ago and we are still mad that says something. so no we wont accept blindly what could possibly the worst grind/money sink in mmo history
Seriously, you just came with worst grind/money sink in mmo history. Really? Man, you must not have played very many mmo’s then. I started with Everquest and then Dark Age of Camelot. Those games had a grind. Even though getting to 500 on crafting is tedious, it no way compares to the time and money spent leveling crafting in DAoC. on item could take like 3 or 4 minutes for the bar to go across and then you still had the chance to fail. I currently have one crafting profession at 500, and that is because I luckily had the mats for it available to level it up. I am slowly working my others up. In no way does it compare to other mmo’s out there.
I can understand some complaints, but what you just said is plain dumb. Man
+1 /agree in comparison to other games you saying the worst grind/money sink in mmo history is laughable.

Kit damage, conjured weapons, and banners to be upgraded to ascended level damage? Will it be this update as all ascended gear will be obtainable at this point?
Karl Marx: “Go away! Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”
Why is arah p3 considered easier than p2 is beyond me. The mechanics are more annoying (crusher, final boss). The skips are very easy though.
well because the final bosses in both (as well as every other path of arah) are a complete joke, that being said path 2 bosses are agent belka , abomination, and alpahard (without counting final bosses or lupi). path 3 bosses are crusher, and mage crusher. so path three has one less boss than path 2 and alpahard>crusher, belka or abomination> mage crusher. (idk this is my opinion I always found path 3 to be both boring and easier).
Karl Marx: “Go away! Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”

For engineers, I think it’s the following setup:
Traits:
Explosives 30 (IV, VII and XI)
Firearms 20 (III and VII if you’re using Pistol, IX if you’re using Rifle)
Inventions 0
Alchemy 10 (I)
Tools 10 (VI)Healing/Utility:
Healing Turret
Grenade Kit
Bomb Kit
Elixir Gun/Elixir B (For when you need Stability)Most of your time will be spent using Kits. If you’re running Pistol/Shield, you’ll mostly swift to this for the Blind, Projectile reflect and Block. If you’re using Rifle, it’s for the 3rd and 5th attacks, the latter hitting like a truck in melee range. 2nd and 4th are good for control. Pistol/Shield lets you use 2 Sigils though, which may be the deciding factor for some players.
I disagree, elixir gun and elixir b are good but they don’t replace the 3 blast finishers you get for using thumper turret (meaning 6 extra stacks of group might compared to elixir gun and 9 extra compared to elixir b) also I see no reason to go 20 points into firearms unless you are talking about post update and modified ammunition changes.
Engineer: 30/10/0/0/30. TheSwede.9512
30/15/0/0/25 is the best build for engineer as target the weak in firearms is better than anything you can get in the 30 point trait for tool (unless you are having a hard time keeping up full endurance for your extra 10% damage boost from enduring damage)

I personally don’t like that build all too much, but I do believe it is the highest damage engineer build

I believe this may be the highest sustained damage build for engineer (different trait could be switched for different situations).

Karl Marx: “Go away! Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”
considering the distance between orr and ascalon and that the searing and cataclysm only happened one year apart from each other (Searing happened in 1070, Cataclysm in 1071) and considering that the guild wars 1 story line (prophecies) takes place one year later in 1072 (meaning that the invasion of kryta took place between 1071-early 1072), I would assume that the charr army had to divide itself into three groups for all of these events to take place in this amount of time, essentially meaning it wouldn’t have mattered if all humans fought together, cause it would also have allowed the whole charr army to fight together.
Karl Marx: “Go away! Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”
well not really because you see before guild wars 1 (prophecies) the three human kingdoms went to war with one another weakening their kingdoms to outside forces, this is when the charr attacked they took out ascalon for the most part, then they moved on to orr where they shattered the orrian army and when attempting to enter the city vizier kilbron sacrificed his nation and took a large chunck of the charr army with him, and finally kryta was falling under the charr invasion, but was saved by saul delasio’s unseen gods (mursaat). In all three cases of the human kingdoms against the charr in GW1 times the human kingdoms lost (this being said it was 4 legions at the time but at half strength because females weren’t allowed in the charr armies). In fact the humans only managed to fight against the charr in GW1 with great magic and artifacts, in ascalon (magedaer, and stormcaller), in orr (the forbidden spell used by the vizier), and in kryta (with the aid of the mursaat and spectral agony). and in all honesty even at this point it isn’t one human nation versus three charr legions as ascalon still is receive aid, through weapons, supplies, and soldiers from kryta. So in conclusion while the human nations may have been weakened and that could’ve possible their reason for their loss in GW1 we can’t say how a fight would go between (orr, kryta, and ascalon, against ash, iron, and blood legions would go today[providing all nations were at the height of their power]).
Karl Marx: “Go away! Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”
Humans have been given a raw deal by the Lore writers of GW2 overall. They have been placed into a position they cannot recover from. Even their current holdings are far from secure – even around Divinity’s Reach.
Even there its citizens do not have a sense of security. In fact most are scared on some level. For the GW story to advance to the future many plot lines need heavy revision and in many cases reversed (also view my previous post – in the Lore section). The Centaurs for example should be re-cast as much weaker in numbers and level of organisation – thus giving actual and real confidence to players that humans will exist into beyond the events of GW2. And in Ascalon the people of Ebonhawke need to gain the ability to be self-sufficient and to pay respect to Gwen Thackeray and the men and women fort alongside her.
This is because if it becomes too obvious that humans are heading for extinction then there will be no interest in the game since there will not be a human race to speak of – just a few individuals scattered throughout Tyria.
PS: Its already obvious to all fans of GW Lore.
The devs will never let the human race go extinct, it’s too populair for that. The majority of the playerbase plays the human race (this is a fact).
agreed not to mention there are still two other expansions (continent like areas where we know humans exists), probably thriving with still a large population in cantha, and there are still humans that exist in elona (even if they are under joko’s rule I assume at some point we will free them).
Karl Marx: “Go away! Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”
Humans are good at Scorched Earth tactics. If we can’t have our land, no one can! If we go down, we’ll take you with us!
If all humans are Margonites and Abaddon is fighting ahead of us, we won’t need to scorch earth. Charrs are the ones that will be scorching earth.
Even elder dragons will tremble in fear when they see us.
So similar to how Balthazar commanded the humans to essentially commit genocide on all the races of tyria and claim the land for themselves, and then left when things got tough. (I know this isn’t exactly true). “It was Balthazar who urged humanity to engage the other races in battle and claim the world for themselves, believing the other races would fall easily.” So invaders from another world come and try to wipe out all opposition, but they fail and instead claim and settle in the lands they have conquered and you expect the native races of this world to not hold a grudge, hmmm.
Not our fault the gods dumped us here. For all the we know the gods were aliens who kidnapped us from earth and dumped us on Tyria as some sort of wicked experiment. And because they were so advanced they might seem as gods to us.
In any case, we do not know anything about the origins of humanity. All we know is that they came from somewhere else.
So the confusion and disorientation, as well as possible memory loss led you to take up weapons and massacre all native species…until you could kill them no more (“in all honesty my sword arm was getting tired”).
shame on you (for defending this kind of behavior)
So you put words in my mouth and ask me to justify them?
Nice try.
Humans wage war for the same reasons other races wage wars. The one thing I hate about GW2 is that humans are suddenly portrayed as the big badguys and every other race is a victim of their cruelty.
please…
you’re right it’s not humans fault that their gods dumped them here, but it is their fault for going and massacring an unsuspecting world they just arrived on. I never asked you to justify the actions of the humans, I just chastised you for defending their actions. Also unless invaders are coming in as a liberating force I don’t think they are generally considered to be “good”, and as the humans were only liberating the resources from the local inhabitants I don’t believe this counts. This is not to say other races are completely innocent either.
Karl Marx: “Go away! Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”
Yeah, I’m sensing a bit of charr propaganda here…
The effect of the Searing really cannot be overstated. Pyre probably said it best with his comment of “You can rebuild Ascalon… when you can eat ash and sleep in flame”.
The breaching of the Great Wall was actually a relatively minor effect of the Searing – as demonstrated by how Ascalon was still able to use it as an effective defense during the time of Prophecies. What the Searing did, however, was kill at least half of Ascalon’s population, both military and civilian, as well as all or most of their means of producing the resources needed to carry out a war. Now, the charr lost an army in the Cataclysm, but their homeland and civilian population was pretty much untouched.
It’s hard to come up with a historical analogy for just how one-sided that war was when you think about it. The best I can think of is if the US had nuked not just Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but had decided from the outset to nuke every major city and piece of farmland in Japan and then left, and then after what was left of the Japanese had crawled out from their ruins and shelters and started attempting to rebuild, Communist China had invaded.
It’s a miracle that Ascalon held out for the generation that it did, particularly when that xenophobic moron Adelbern refused any assistance from potential allies. With that record of resilience, it’s plausible that if Adelbern had been killed in the Searing and replaced with someone like Barradin or Rurik with their sanity intact and without an overwhelming prejudice against the other human kingdoms, it’s possible that the front line would have still been at the Wall, not in the Fields of Ruin.
actually I think a pretty perfect example of this exists in history of the real world, which would be the European advance into the Americas, some historians estimate that up to 90% of the native American tribes were killed off by European germs (diseases that Europeans had built up and immunity to, these diseases are generally thought to have come from the domesticate animals of Europe) If you are interested in this here is a good book: Guns, Germs, and Steel
It is a good analogy, minus the complete and utter destruction of the ecosystem.
except it does still work, as when 90% of you food producing population (farmers and gatherers) or all in some cases it would quickly eliminate tribes who could no longer provide food for their citizens or their “armies” also utter destruction of an ecosystem hmm, http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/multimedia/dynamic/00267/P37_Train_267932k.jpg almost whipping out a major source of food and tools from the native population while whipping out several other indigenous species sounds so different from what you are describing. http://marinebio.org/oceans/conservation/moyle/ch2-2.asp
@ draxynnic yes I understand that the earth wasn’t completely destroyed, but much of the ecosystem was not to mention that once these tribes were defeated they were moved to land with low resources, often without things that their culture used to rely so heavily on (plains Indian tribes and buffalo).

To me the legendary imbued shaman in fractals looks a lot like the concept art of the fleshreaver lords, is there anything that could possibly support this claim (were the grawl perhaps worshiping this fleshreaver lord that resided within the volcano?). It seems that this would not be the case as you fight a champion grawl shaman who then jumps into the volcano, and then you see the legendary imbued shaman which would seem to imply that the legendary infused shaman was just the grawl who gained new powers by fusing with something in the volcano (receiving a blessing/curse)?

oh no worry we will eventually, lol its just gonna take a little while to level up to that. and as you can see that I said in my other post that I do understand where your coming from and I agree a bit but they have essentially been saying heavy classes or go home for a while now in pve…I also see that grenades will be basically impossible to use in fractals 43 (as if almost 700 damage from retaliation from certain mobs in arah wasn’t enough)

Don’t forget the egregious bugs on the Mai Trin fight that imposes double agony without warning or ports you right into cannon fire by the door from random spots around the room. Or the lack of waypoint and/or method of getting back into the reactor on character death. Or the death with no matching animation or hit on the spinning lightbars in the aetherblade terminal puzzle.
The new DPS requirements and incoming damage turned what used to be a sometimes frustrating but always fun and hilarious evening into hours of torture and final abandonment on the Mai Trin fight. My group wound up discussing the fact that levels are account-bound now and that we needed to give up our light and medium armor classes because the fractals are clearly only designed for warrior/guard groups.
I want to believe that this is growing pains and it will get better, but I don’t see ANet backtracking on this. We’ll get some bug fixes, but the push towards running all heavy armor groups has been obvious for some time. This last patch just sealed it.
I understand what you are saying I just think that its a bit funny from my perspective as our guild group ran through fractals 30 with 2 engineers, 1 ranger, 1 necro and a thief, and fractals 31 with the same party other than the ranger left and we got another thief.

Humans in this game could be seen in a similar light to say the fall of the Aztecs as they both created tons of enemies around them (charr, centaurs, grawl, mursaat, and tengu to name a few) or an in game example could be the forgotten. This all being said my guess would still be they are still one of the most powerful races in Tyria (if Cantha is anything like it used to be) They most certainly aren’t the most advanced killers though.
Karl Marx: “Go away! Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”
Honestly, don’t worry about your build. If you want to do well in Arah, learn the fights and know which utility skills are useful and where.
To this extent, smoke screen is a great skill to have for a lot of encounters there. There are a lot of projectiles and a lot of trash mobs that hit really hard. Smoke screen can save you and your group with the right use.
People love to get caught up on builds, especially on forums, but having a group of people that know the fight mechanics of the dungeon will always, always be more important than what build or classes you bring into a dungeon.
I agree with this. The utilities you bring are far more important than the exact build you run. That being said, I run a 10/30/0/15/15 and it seems to suit me just fine.
I run the 14/14/14/14/14 build, I think it’s really good and suits my playstyle.

25/30/0/0/15 or 30/30/0/0/10 are the only viable pve dungeon builds for a thief.
could you please explain to me how either 30 points or 25 points in deadly arts is worth sacrificing the 30 points in trickery as the trickery bonus is up to 15% more damage from lead strikes trait as well as providing group might, fury, swiftness, and vigor (and a daze I guess) on a 21 sec cooldown, is the reason that it works better is because you don’t lose out on your damage boost from exposed weakness when you are mashing out heart seeker on a boss under 50% health for the executioner trait? or is the power given through the deadly arts trait line enough to offset the extra 5%?

10/30/0/0/30 is a build a friend of mine runs and we generally do arah 1-2 daily, although his advice on every boss in the game is don’t get hit.

Just trying to get help to pair them up with dungeons where they can shine or at least be welcome
ugh… probably not inaccurate but I didn’t level up so many to just play Warrior and Guardian; and none of mine are zerkers.
Seriously. You were told Zerker is the go-to armor for every class, you have 8 classes and none of them has zerker gear? Talk about being stubborn.
Sorry for being harsh, but you ain’t going to “shine” in any dungeon unless you have zerker gear. If you don’t have DPS in GW2, you are a dead weight and you are getting carried by the other 4 members. As simple as that.
You say it like its life or death.
Or perhaps I should have posted this under General Discussions for more casual replies instead of pros telling me I must go zerker. LOL.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. I’ve edited the original post for clarity. My intention is just to join a ‘normal’ (read non-zerker only) group, be able to contribute (by ensuring some important functions or utilities are covered) and see some new content. Nothing so serious as wanting to break any speed records or maximize my gold/min.
@DigitalKirin – thanks for your advice. As above, I may have mis-represented myself here. Currently, I’d just like to see new content having only done AC and CM casually. If I ever want to spend much more time in dungeons, I will do as you’ve suggested.
@SoliSnake & Jeremlloyd – Thanks for sharing your Ranger builds. Have started testing the builds provided. Using Soldier armor and gear though…
You see people are trying to help you with this area, because the dodge mechanic is quite broken in this game most/any boss can be fought in all berserker gear because without vigor you can still dodge once every 10 seconds (excluding the first 2 dodges you have), and once every five seconds with vigor, a dodge gives you about 3/4s invulnerability meaning that if you have perma vigor you can be invulnerable 15% of the time just with your dodges, this allows you (once you have a good knowledge of the boss and how and when to dodge certain attacks) to kill bosses more quickly while still staying safe by dodging the hardest hitting of the boss’s skills. of course as you are new to dungeons its probably best to start off with a little bit tankier gear until you learn the boss mechanics, and phase out the tankier gear as you begin to feel more comfortable.
my 2 cents

If you’ve ever played an asura and you have jumped around, you will never want to play another race again.
If you are referring to doing jumping puzzels I would have to disagree and say that it just depends on the race you have used the most that the jumps will seem most natural and the easiest, but if you are talking about the way they jump just for moving around and their evades how they look I would have to agree they are pretty neat. Disclaimer: This all being said, I main a charr engineer.
