first no that is still not true I keep saying that because of his work to help engis in the past we should try to at least make an effort to understand what he is saying, for me personally, I am incredibly against his view point I would say engis need a buff if anything. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Dungeon-usefulness-list/first all of my opinions from this thread are the same as they were before, but if I have overlooked something I would rather learn where I may be mistaken rather than just dismissing the one who disagrees with me as a fool.

I completely disagree with you here, even if we don’t understand and believe the OP’s claims. Guanglai Kangyi.4318 has done a great deal to further the engi community especially in the way of dungeons, for all he’s done to get the dungeon forums to recognize the engineer as a viable option in dungeons, he at least deserves the right to be heard, maybe he will surprise us?

I can agree that he did push hard to promote what engineers can do in damage, buffs, and debuffs, but that doesn’t meant we have to accept an unreasonable argument. That is along the lines of logic of staying with an abusive spouse simply because they buy you gifts and act sweet the day after they abuse you. One does not make the other right.

No that is not along the same logic saying be respectful to someone who has helped you as their wisdom may help you to understand something you didnt before is in no way the same as staying in an abusive relationship…

The more you instigate this thread the longer it will remain active. There is no discussion here, no debate and no purpose to this post. Just let the child throw its tantrum and be done with it. This all being said Guanglai have you tried using thumper turret rather than elixir gun for might stacking, its recharge is longer, but its 9 might stacks at once rather than 3, over time the might stacks will about even out but I use the thumper turret for the burst of might stacks (Overload, detonate, and rumble[toolbelt]) using this method in combination with BoB detonating your heal turret and using shield #4 as a blast finisher your can give your whole party 18 might at once rather than 12 (this doesn’t even count the possibility of using supply crate for another blast finisher and it still allows for the use of grenade and bomb kit in your build)

Here’s my question #1
Do you have any plans to use the seer race in any upcoming living story updates or future personal stories or are they pretty much extinct as a race?

Here’s my question #2
Are Arachnia and other such creatures likely to make any type of return (are they dead, or did they ever truly exist in the Guild Wars universe)?

Here’s my question #3 (4,5)
What’s going on in the Valley of Gwaun are Ascolonian ghosts guarding it, did they die there, does it have anything to do with Lord Odran?

Ideas for new engineer traits

in Engineer

Posted by: Infamous Darkness.3284

Infamous Darkness.3284

I really only had one but I thought people could add their own too, I’m prefacing this by saying the tools line has offensive stats but other than adept level traits (and I guess scope) all of them are more defensive so I though a good trait could be something like

Grandmaster “No Wasted Effort” for each toolbelt skill on recharge gain a 2.5% damage boost

this would be a trait that directly effects our actual class mechanic the toolbelt, it would also give reason to go into this trait line for offensive purposes other than just getting static discharge and critical damage (and enduring damage).

1)Engineer have 3 traits that affect their class mechanic (toolbelt)
2)Elementalist have 3 traits that affect their class mechanic (attunements [this does not include trait that change based on attunement])
3)Thieves have 9 traits that affect their class mechanic (steal)
4)Mesmers have 9 traits that affect their class mechanic (shatters)
5)Necromancers have 12 traits that affect their class mechanic (death shroud)
6)Guardians have 12 traits that affect their class mechanic (virtues [many are only specific to only one virtue]
7)Warriors have 14 traits that affect their class mechanic (bursts/adrenaline)
8)Rangers have 26 traits that affect their class mechanic

GK, where are you ranking Grenade Engi’s now? IIRC they were coming in last on your DPS spread sheet. Have they jumped up a bunch or what?

Grenade DPS is around 10.5k now with the buff to Modified Ammunition, possibly more if you have a good variety of condition stacking. That’s on top of still being able to maintain 20 stacks of vuln and 12 stacks of might with absolutely zero tradeoff, and being able to push that up even more with fairly minimal tradeoffs.

By comparison a DPS guard or warrior is pretty much exactly the same DPS but with about half of the buff/debuff output. And that’s not even counting the loads of area stealth, condition removal, healing, and CC that an engineer can fit onto one bar with no DPS loss. Oh, and the fact that it’s all doable at 1500 range whereas pretty much every other class has to be in melee.

Honestly, the fact that a Rifle/Bomb setup does exactly the same DPS as a grenade/pistol setup but loses out on might and vuln and is stuck at melee range clearly indicates the problem more than anything.

in other words you fear modified ammunition will break the damage charts in engi

a dps engineer will most likely go full direct damage wich usually is SD and nades

wich leaves to immobilize cripple bleed vuln give or take 1-2 more conditions like poison if they bring eg so average buff from Modified ammo would be 10% as for vuln
i dont see how they would keep 25 stacks 100% uptime at least maybe 5 stacks i see accomplishable on a non condi build so how is engineer dps broken over a 10-15% increase from a Grandmaster trait
aint like engi’s the only class with a buff like that

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Executioner
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Close_to_Death
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Berserker%27s_Power

Warriors and thieves don’t stack 20 vuln and 12 might just by standing there.

Modified Ammo is normally a weak trait but it is too strong for grenade engineers. So it can’t be buffed to bring it up to speed for every other weapon without creating serious imbalance problems for grenades.

Same goes for Steel-packed Powder, Shrapnel, Precise Sights, etc. They’re all weak traits for every other weapon but can’t be buffed because they’re already balanced around grenades. Imagine if you got, like, 7s vuln on crit with Precise Sights like warriors do. It’d be perfectly average for most weapons but you’d be getting something like 30 stacks of vuln with grenades which would just be ridiculous.

I am a little confused as to where you are getting the 12 stacks of might by just standing there? I know we can stack 24 stacks of might without a special rune set or traits but with just bomb 2 and all the blast finishers we can bring but these take time away from using possibly more damaging skills. could you please point out where we are getting the 12 stacks of might please, are you talking about using superior sigil of might and battle at the same time, or enhanced performance?

Another one that may not have been mentioned is mini scarlets and caithes as with more people buying black lion keys and farming them they are more likely to drop again dropping their price for mystic forging.

well currently the best gear is Ascended/Legendary, legendries are just more expensive with more effects with the added ability to change their stats when out of combat, this being said exotics are about 95% of the effectiveness of Ascended/legendries ascended weapons cost probably about 50X as much as their exotic equivalent (not counting crafting leveling costs) with armor being similarly costly.

This shows that both devices to be sent out deal with time. (both could bossibly have some relation to the clockheart, the boss at the end of TA twilight assault path)

Both of these involve fire, first kryta’s flames now the world is on fire.

The second article says “there’s a secret deep below to find”, also in the first article “Your world is built on fog and sand” (possibly talking about the mists) and if the world is built on something it must be below it possibly the secret is hidden in the mists…

Your world is built on fog and sand

To the people of Divinity’s Reach

So mark the date in permanent ink

1) Yes they were in the dat but they were actually landmarks ingame as well, if I remember correctly the spiders heart landmarked pulsed or glowed red in an area when you got near to it. so it could still have some effect on GW2.

2) Yes that is a possibility

3) “The Realm of Torment was initially Abaddons prison before his influence spread through it”, but it seems that this statement “It has become a place where individuals of twisted evil or corruption are banished to spend eternity in torment” seems to say otherwise, I believe they are both from the Nightfall manuscript, but I’m unsure. The thing that I was supposing I guess would be if the dragons in GW2 are a force that lies dormant until they awaken and feed off of magic in the physical world of Tyria, what if something similar was needed in a way to regulate magic in the mists, and what if these Insect/Arachnid creatures are the being that consume magic in the mists (I know its a gigantic leap).

The Insect/Arachnid gods Theory

in Lore

Infamous Darkness.3284

We will begin here Spider’s heart this location seemed to still glow or “beat” perhaps this is the first sign that these beasts aren’t dead but similar to the elder dragons were just sleeping. Arachnia was the name in the dat file I believe, these are the other locations (Vale of Shadows,Harvestmans Lair,Arachnia Plateau) that shows signs of life through the sounds of scurrying, webbing and ground (underside of a spider) that sighs when tread upon as if it were still breathing. Then we also have a few locations that aren’t directly noted on the wiki but could possibly be related (Devourer’s Maw seems as this and areas in the stygian veil and the dreadspawn maw itself could possibly be related to spiders as parts of their cheliceral teeth. Leech Tunnels although the leech tunnels could be more about what happens there rather than being related to the insect leeches) There is also “large insect-like Margonite being sticking out of a mountain near the exit to the Gate of Secrets.” directly from the wiki, to this I couldn’t find a picture or see it when I went out there myself to check but I did see a praying mantis type being that was very large (probably similar size to what we saw primordius to be in guild wars 1). there is also a grasshopper looking thing a little ways off but it is substantially smaller, and all of these are found in the domain of fear.

Now to guild wars 2 in the now removed path of TA Fyonna’s dialogue at the end she said Fyonna: “But my children sing to me. Listen.” Fyonna: “They sing dark, delicious notes about power and family. As their mother, I have to grant them their wish.” She was the countess of spiders, and while fighting her in the UP path she transforms into a massive spider during part of the fight. Also these insect/arachnid gods are related to nightfall in GW1 while in guild wars 2 Fyonna Countess of spiders is trying to turn the dream to nightmare in GW2, possibly the first step to awakening these gods. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Domain_of_Fear.jpg This picture is good here as I believe it to show more that just possible spider legs but if you look off into the clouds you may see a shape that looks much like a scorpion’s tail and stinger. perhaps Fyonna was much like a Varesh Ossa or the great destroyer in trying to wake up or free their deity, but she was killed before she could make as much headway as the other two did, but this doesn’t mean that these great beasts won’t awaken again, but perhaps their time has been delayed a bit.

A lot of this theory reaches a bit but hopefully you enjoyed it, please point out problem with the theory or ideas to further it or whatever…thanks for reading.

Yes grenades are strong but they aren’t as strong as in their auto attack as bombs are that’s why for pve if you are going for maximum dps you use grenade skill #2, #4, and grenade barrage on cooldown (#5 if its a boss that heals or regenerates), BoB and firebomb as well as any other blast finishers to stack might, while using bomb #1 auto attack when not doing one of these other things.

Need build ideas

in Mesmer

Posted by: Infamous Darkness.3284

Infamous Darkness.3284

OP asks for build ideas, I give him build ideas. You bait long tirades from me by questioning my condescension towards greatsword.

My initial question was an honest one as I have never had anyone say boo to me in game about my using a GS anywhere in PvE. The tirades were your choice.

Who would have guessed, efficiency can be fun.

Efficiency can be fun. Dealing with people who think 100% efficiency is the end all be all of playing part of a game, or who obnoxiously boot people from their group because they decide their build isn’t exactly the way they would do it? Not fun.

I’d rather take twice as long to do a dungeon with “inefficient” players than have to endure one with an attitude like yours.

These comments seem a bit rude, although the person you were talking to may seem overbearing?, they are the only one in this forum that has actually answered your question and gave you ideas just like you wanted. Now I personally am not the most proficient Mesmer and I actually prefer the 0/30/0/25/15 that mahariel.4981 linked, but if you are really attached to your greatsword or you just need to start out a little slower rather than diving in head first heres a possible build for you perhaps, 20/10/0/25/15 it will allow your to specialize in GS, SW/SW, and SW/Focus.

edit: Ah I see I made a mistake in reading you don’t like the great sword

Well I don’t know how well this would work for pve but maybe some kind of shatter build and sharing the might you get off interrupts with signet of inspirations, with some type of 20/0/20/0/30 build, or if you really want to go with staff 10/0/30/0/30, again I don’t play Mesmer all that often so this may not be all that great but I was trying to come up with something you might enjoy but might not necessarily be spectacular.

The Order of Whispers leads the western Pact offensive in the region, and they’ll need to take control of the situation before the region becomes a warzone. For that, they’ll need to manipulate the rebel tribes to the Pact’s cause, and then overthrow the Modniir from a secure position that doesn’t give any advantage to Jormag. However, the Modniir aren’t alone. Helped by shadows from Kryta, they would rather see their lands fall to Jormag than losing their throne to the Pact.

Pug Roulette: Week One

Ok I guess I have one, I feel that I must preface this with saying that I’m very against kicking bad pugs even to a fault (probably because I still main engineer)

So was doing fractals 49 the other day with my one guildie on his thief (I was on engineer), and we get started and two eles and a guard join us, first ele comes in wielding a Soro’s (assassin stat) and I think cool whatever, the other guard and ele come in both wielding White Staves (Healing Power primary stat), we completed the whole run (swamp, Cliffside, [cant remember what this was], and maw) guard camped staff or scepter focus almost the whole time…this was made especially bad because I saw him pull out a white ascended sword but (I never saw him use it in combat) /sigh.

In all honesty when it was announced that GW2 would be a 250 year timeskip I expected humanity to be completely removed from ascalon, I didn’t see any way that their walls would’ve held against a continuous charr attack with cannon type of technology (ex. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walls_of_Constantinople) as their walls don’t seem as advanced as Constantinople’s walls, and charr artillery seems more advanced with stronger soldiers then the turks, I would also expect charr to far outnumber humans, as they are felines and have litters thus they reproduce faster, then their human enemies.

High LVL Fractals and Vitality

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Infamous Darkness.3284

Is vitality necessary for very high level fractals (40-70), or are pure berserker builds still viable? Im about to start crafting some ascended weapons and armor and want to know if I should go pure berserkers (thats my current build) or mix in some vitality and toughness. I play a ranged ranger if that matters.

Im only at level 31, with 35 AR, so Im not sure if my dying is due to not having enough AR, or if the mobs just do that much more damage. Im also not sure how enemy damage will scale as the levels continue to increase.

Please for the love of god…in PvE you should be running full zerker and use say Weakness for example to survive. Weakness will increase your survivability a great deal (more so than toughness) and not decrease your damage whosoever. There are plenty sources of it especially if you have Warriors in the group or with consumables.

Also, on ranger you should not be running a bow or bear as this is extremely counter productive and I would honestly kick you just for that if you were in my group.

On the wiki there is a chart with what AR is required to survive at what level. 35 AR from 30-39 should be plenty.

Would 30AR be sufficient for 30+ or do i have to wait 6 more days, get my second acessory to even try?

Sorry to hijack the thread but my two cents are that the general conseus is zerk all the way, best defense is not being there plus agony hits per health percentage so more vit helps very little.

Actually vitality and toughness DO NOT help against agony period. Agony takes a percentage of HP.

Just adding not only does vitality not help in fractals against agony buy it hurts, because you will take more damage from agony (ex. 10%of12,000=1,200 10%of22,000=2,200 damage per tick) and will have to heal more frequently.

  • Rurik was a minority to seek Krytan help, most Ascalonians didn’t trust them. Why would they, they had been fighting each other for hundreds of years? Did you miss that part?
  • It’s delusional to want to die for your country? Eat yer heart out Marines.
  • I have no idea what worse things they faced. Oh right…that Searing thing.

For the record, at the time ANet didn’t even have all the information. It was elaborated on later. Also, it was the Prophecies’ authors point of view, not the humans. Other than the Thadeus Lamount bit, is the lore written in 1st-person? Is the gameplay controlled by some human narrator somewhere?

I want you to remember that no b*stard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor, dumb b*stard die for his country.

I was wondering when someone was going to say that, a guildie uses that quote quite often.

been a while since I’ve done any dungeon solo but the last one I did was TA path up using all zerk gear but that was back when you could keep up perma vigor with 30/0/0/10/30. I found the hardest boss in this path to be Fyonna, be sure to bring reflects against her, such as thoss elixir u, and a shield in your offhand.

Engineer Gear Help (for fractals)

for short fuse are you only using grenade kit though?, I assumed using grenade #2, and #4 and then switching to bomb kit for auto attack when those are on cooldown, and using BoB, bomb #2, thumper turret overcharge, detonate thumper turret, rumble(thumper toolbelt), and shield 4 when that combo is off cooldown (could add in detonate heal turret and supply crate too).

I wasn’t trying to say perma vigor was bad, I was just saying it was unnecessary, It was great when we used to invest 25 points in tools for enduring damage to keep that up but with the current meta it seems unnecessary.

hmm what is the 3% partywide increase from alchemy, is it just the longer boon duration to grant increased might uptime? you could always take chocolate omnomberry cream for 20% boon duration rather than the 10% and it would offset the points you lose from your bowl of curry butternut squash or whatever

Infamous Darkness.3284

ah ok well in that case I’m gonna start poking holes.
1) take explosive powder as your 20 point firearms trait rather than short fuse (if you are going 30 points in firearms for a ~10% damage boost take another 10% damage boost over faster recharge. I realize this doesn’t count target the maimed which will basically always be up.)
2) the 10 points in the alchemy line are only so useful as giving you a chance to get vigor when you crit, if you find you are becoming comfortable with engineer and don’t need that many dodges drop your 10 points from alchemy and throw them into tools for something like static discharge. (if you do this infused precision becomes pretty useless in firearms so you’ll probably want to drop that too, its nice to switch out for rifle mods if you end up in the underwater fractal, because scatter mines will do incredible damage if you blow it up in someones face)
3) Also you might want to change sigils, I would suggest dropping accuracy for a stacking sigil like bloodlust, or if you need something cheaper perception. You may also find that, I would also suggest sigil of battle over sigil of strength, cause it has a maximum of 5 stacks of might it can provide since its on a 2 second internal cooldown, while battle is on a 10 second cooldown with 20 seconds of might but gives 3 stacks of might each time for a 6 stacks of might total.

sadly these are more suggestions for power builds.

I’ll just leave this here for you.

You [Insert server here] people are a bunch of cheaters that can only win because of your superior (numbers/coverage), and glitching through walls and gates. All our people are far better players while your server all just run FotM builds that don’t even know how to play the game. Your server also has no class, always seeing your people (spamming emotes/corpse jumping). We also noticed the way you paired up with [Insert server here] to double team us cause you both suck too much to fight us on even terms. Quit using cheap strategies like having your mesmer’s die at bay water gate to be rezed and port people in.

Yeah, that was my bad, I wasn’t reading well. Anyways, on the 30/30/x/x/x setup, it’s because of the modified ammo trait, right? Is it better than 30/15/x/x/25?

Yes 30/15/0/0/25 is higher damage provided you are able to maintain full endurance, but most engineer don’t like that build and prefer, 30/30/0/10/0 or 30/30/0/0/10 (I prefer static discharge) but for spoj’s engineer build pls if your group isn’t effectively stacking might switch out elixir B for thumper turret, its 3 blast finisher!(could be 4 blast finishers if deployable turrets is still bugged but I think its been fixed) also good for stealth stacking and other such things like MIGHT, in case blast finishers wasn’t clear enough.

I would suggest getting berserkers ascended armor when you are able to, also some other good rune sets could be 6Xeagle runes, or if u want to just be might stacking (with thumper turret, BoB, healing turret, shield #4, and supply crate you should have 7 blast finisher…21 might, of course this wont work for every situation as supply crate is on a large cooldown, and thumper turret too.) for that your runes should be something like 2xpirate, 2xhoelbrek, and 2xfire.

a little off topic but still on the topic of retaliation, blind blocks a whole grenade skill unless they hit at different times, so it usually blocks 3+ hits with one blind, but each hit still counts for retaliation, on the plus side at least each hit doesn’t count for confusion.
