In all honesty if your statement was true about dusk going up 5 gold a day it would only increase my interest in buying one as an investment (still wont though precursor market is dangerous) as you would basically be making (5*0.85) 4.25 gold a day in interest. but it would take a while to recover your principal investment

(810*0.85=688.50value if immediately resold at same price)
([810-688.5]/4.25=28.59 days to recoup initial investment)

interesting, might I ask what build you were running on engi, was it 10/0/30/30/0 because I feel that build is a bit op in the current meta for spvp that might just be because I hate automated response though (the same way I figured I would hate diamond skin[but haven’t seen anyone use it yet])

I can understand where the OP is coming from, Imagine OP is just leveling their first character, and they started as an asura they clear metrica, then brisban, and then move through Kessex and into Gendarran, they notice they have gotten a letter in the mail inviting them to do their first dungeon, at this point in the game they may have never really spent any time in their home city or done any of their personal story, meaning they might not know about asura gates (It’s still quite a hike from gendarran to plains of ashford) and the ease of travel to get to AC from their starting city. What I’m saying is that you don’t have to agree with them, but you could attempt to understand where they are coming from and give them advice to help them with their problems (I know this is difficult in the dungeon forums as many of you guys have repeatedly gotten infractions, been kicked from dungeons you were selling (making you lose out on profit), and general mocking from people you were trying to help)

Would I ever pay an accountant to do my taxes, hell no as I am an accountant. the same being true for this game I run dungeons for fun, (often solo, duo, or trio) does that mean I would pay for someone to run the dungeon for me, NO then I would lose the enjoyment I gain from whatever difficulty and challenge I would’ve gotten from doing it myself. But if someone plays the TP (something I also do) they may have the disposable income and like the armor from a particular dungeon, while not enjoying the challenge of dungeons, so they may find it worth their gold to buy said armor through someone else’s work in (soloing) the dungeon…so what is the problem here?

I don¡t know if you are interested in engis but 30/30/0/10/0 (for perma vigor) or 30/30/0/0/10 (minmax dps).

I’ve seen quite a few people advocating the 30/30/0/0/10 build for max dps but I question this because for dungeons I would guess the average conditions you could expect to keep up would be around 5 meaning that would increase your damage by about 10% damage but that would be canceled out by tools 25 pt trait enduring damage, meaning that it would come down to the difference between target the maimed (5% extra damage)+ ~10% crit chance from traits+ the extra condition damage versus, 20% more crit damage+ 20% faster recharge on toolbelt skills (20% more static discharge/grenade barrage/BoB)+ while also having a permanent 1/2 vigor. I also think you could use scope to kind of balance out against target the weak. I’m just not sure that 30/30/0/0/10 is a higher damage build then 30/10/0/0/30 until I run the numbers.

Not counting condition damage: 30/30/0/0/10 provides a little more dps than 30/10/0/0/30 or 30/30/0/10/0 (which are equal).
The problem with 30/10/0/0/30 is that you assume.scope and enduring damage.working all time. For a melee group, scope is bad. Enduring damage wont be always active.
Then add cond damage which would ve higher in 30/30 builds…

That being said I also think that 30/10/0/0/30 with adrenal implant is a very good option if you do open world and dungeons and dont want to change traits.

Sorry what I should’ve said was 30/15/0/0/25 this will allow you all the offensive traits for this way you lose out on target the maimed (5%) and modified ammunition (~10%)
but gain 15% crit damage and enduring damage (10%). this is not to say it will be best for all situations but I think its damage would generally be higher [will still have to run the numbers.]

Sorry, I missed a piece of my summary:
In the Aetherblade Retreat Inspector Ellen Kiel gets shocked by a barrier, exclaiming, “Ow! It shocked me!” How unusual. Kiel had no problem discerning that “an illusion” formed the entrance to the Retreat but found herself foiled by the elaborate engineering of the Aetherblade security network. Coincidentally, the entrance to the Tower of Nightmares was concealed by a powerful illusion – an illusion that only an equally powerful mesmer could dispel. Kasmeer Meade is just one such mesmer who tore the veil of illusion concealing the true nature of and entrance to the Tower Of Nightmares. But she was foiled by a thorn in the Nightmare Chamber of the Tower (when pricked, Kasmeer exclaims, “Ow! Oh, fudge, that hurt!”). This thorn, for all intents and purposes, formed part of the Tower’s defense network. Are you noticing anything here? Because I am. I think that we can safely conclude that Inspector Ellen Kiel and Kasmeer Meade are one and the same person. Moreover, I think that we can be fairly certain that whoever this “Ellen Kiel/Kasmeer Meade” is, she is also the mysterious “E”. With this is mind, we note that Scarlet has set up real security defenses that cannot truly be countered by mesmers. Nonetheless, she still uses illusions to conceal things. She does this to draw in her target – she expects that only a handful and perhaps only one person will ever be able to dispel the illusion. In short, she wants “E’s” blood. The thorn might have been deliberate. Why? Think about it: How do you fool a mesmer? Chance. Lay enough thorns, expose your target to enough poison and eventually they will make a mistake. (Scarlet may have collected that thorn, by the way, and with it a sample of Ellen/Kasmeer’s blood). The clumsy inspector is a fitting substitute for Queen Jennah. Although she isn’t too bright when it comes to engineering, Ellen/Kasmeer is the only available female human mesmer capable of dispelling the combined mesmeric-magical might of the krait religious machine: Make no mistake, she’s powerful.

I don’t think that ellen and kasmeer could be the same person as this https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/welcome-to-paradise/ discussion would’ve been very strange seeing her talk to a “clone” of herself

My personal guess would’ve been that the EDs are stronger as we see with Primordius that he can create living humanoid like being on a regular basis making tons of them. I can’t find any situations in which the human gods created anything like that they changed living type of things into other living things but never created life from something without life (ex. tormented souls->titans, humans->margonites, kormir->goddess, and Ewan’s tribe->stewards of nature), though it has been suggested that when the human gods arrived on Tyria they did a bit of terraforming, which in that case they may have given life to plants and such.

On the position that there must always be six human gods it is possible that the same is true of the elder dragons, as we see from Tequatl’s evolution “Warmaster Narru who was dispatched by General Almorra Soulkeeper to investigate the reports theorizes that it may be a response to the Pact offensive in Orr; though whether this is the case remains to be seen.” makes it sound like (to me at least) that the pact may have killed Zhaitan at the point when Tequatl starts gaining strength to take up the mantle of the elder dragon of death?

Can someone explain to me why a level 80 warrior would need to run a level 35 dungeon in clerics? I was doing AC p1, which is pretty easy IMO, and was in a PUG with all warriors, but I was 1 of 2 running full zerk. The other one said they needed to swap out theirs for valk gear cause they kept dying…Please explain why you would use clerics gear. The guy with 25 stacks has 25 stacks of HEALING!! WTKitten?!

I may be misreading here but valk (Valkyrie gear) doesn’t have any healing power in it in fact it is power, vitality, crit damage.

In conclusion for me I play dungeons and do long term trading on the TP I find both activities enjoyable, but I don’t understand your dislike for dungeon selling, as they are providing a service for which payment is due, you are saying the people who are buying are being exploited, but they are willingly making this payment and in addition if someone was selling say path 2 arah at 3.26g per person would you still see this as wrong, as the person buying the path is essentially spending nothing but getting free token. So I guess what I’m asking is selling dungeons what you have a problem with or the price that they are being sold at or both?

And btw, TP prices are not buffed enough. An exotic weapon weapon costs 2g while armors get more reasonable prices, so, Gw2 economy is cool and besides, you can go and farm just about anything.
Edited by moderator

Now now there are good reasons why the exotic armor prices are so low, currently many people have or are in the process of leveling up their armor crafting for ascended armor, to do that they have to make exotic armor, many choose to go farther in their crafting discipline by selling off all of this new armor that they don’t need or want to get more gold to continue their higher level crafting, with so many people doing this it brings down the whole exotic armor market cause why would I buy an exotic berserker chest piece for 5 gold when I could get (an uglier crafted one in my opinion) for only say 50 silver. This makes it a good investment because you can see that the market has crashed but it is a market that won’t disappear, so it is bound to rebound. Hopefully this makes sense to you.

Weapons costing next to nothing and armors being costier is not a trend from yesterday. Hopefully this makes sense to you.

P.S: I’m using info from before the last patch. Frankly I haven’t checked the TP in a week or so (armors section at least) so I really have no clue how it is atm. [/quote]

I expected that you were saying in your first point there, that “TP prices aren’t buffed enough” was sarcasm. second if it wasn’t sarcasm then you are completely off on the current market of the game for example this is the lowest buy order for a lvl 80 chest piece vs the lowest buy order for a lvl 80 great sword. http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/47194
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/1035
and if I was to argue your point where it would have been before is that the opposite was true people were preparing for ascended crafting and stockpiling ingredients for exotic armors, or still leveling their weapon crafting professions putting more weapons into the economy at that time while far fewer armor pieces were being produced through crafting.

also Weapons costing next to nothing and armors being costier is not a trend from yesterday. Hopefully this makes sense to you. comes off as very insulting in a situation where I’m attempting to assist you in understanding the current market while you are providing information from what the market was in the past without noting it as such.

Soloing is not easier unless its a specific fight where newbies can make it harder for one experienced player by triggering certain attacks (lupi). Everything else is easier in a bad group because you essentially get 4 meat shields and aggro is shared.

Why are you so against people challenging themselves by soloing content? I think it would be a pretty good showcase of skill if you could 4-man a 50-man raid. And I like the idea of it being possible if the players are skilled enough. Restrictions like the cof p1 gate are just stupid.

I’m against people selling dungeon paths. Whether you do it solo or not is fine by me as long as you don’t rip users off. Have you ever considered that some of your “customers” do not feel confident and thus think that the only way to pass arah would be to pay someone off, not because they have gold in excess?

In this thread I’m obviously ranting against soloing dungeons, I’m not denying that but it’s only because it is the only thing that I consider would “fix” this issue.

And yeah, screw your marketing tips please, I’m selling my products well enough to have huge profits in real life. I don’t need that in my games. I play games to relax not to make a living of.

And btw, TP prices are not buffed enough. An exotic weapon weapon costs 2g while armors get more reasonable prices, so, Gw2 economy is cool and besides, you can go and farm just about anything.

P.S: How long before people start charging for world events and just about anything else, as it is in real life?

Mini Comparison

in Black Lion Trading Co

Infamous Darkness.3284

here are 4 minis with relatively similar availability as far as I can see yet one is worth far more than the other three.
(Mini Karka)
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/37206

(Mini Karka Hatchlings)
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/37208
When it comes to the karka hatchlings versus the Karka in price the only thing I could think of that people may like the karka over the hatchlings for is they find the hatchling’s noise to be very annoying. Or maybe they just like one model better than another, or perhaps it has something to do with the hatchlings looking a bit like spiders.

(Mini Reef Drake)
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/37207
I can see why the mini reef drake would keep its low price even though its supply is the lowest it is very similar to the many other drake mini pets. I could see this becoming an easily manipulated market if you already had the cash laying around.

(Mini Molten Firestorm)
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/42402
I can understand the jump in the molten firestorms price with the new fractals having been released and it is one of the new end bosses. But what caused its subsequent quick plummet in price?

What is your thoughts on other minis do you think the rare and exotic mini market will rebound after scarlet and caithe are removed from BLTC or do you think that most of the people willing to pay the old high prices for them already have them, and the possibility that some people have stocked up on these to sell later?

Just to point this out only three of the seven professions with summon able “pets” received this buff, (Mesmer, ranger, and necromancer I believe) while guardians (spirit weapons), thieves (thieves guild, and the one trap that summons another thief), engineer (turrets), and elementalist (elemental summons) didn’t receive this buff. warriors didn’t have a pet with health (summon able banners don’t have health)

Infamous Darkness.3284

I think the major difference between what you expected/wanted and what you got would be the broken turrets with their immobile nature they should be more powerful in locking down an area, but they are still much worse than other professions pets in both health and damage, you would think by sacrificing mobility you would gain some return but I guess not. On top of this in Beta 1 engineers had a skill called mine kit rather than throw mine, it allowed you to place 5 mines (they were all the same skill) but it allowed you to control an area to a greater effectiveness.

But I suppose if you really want to run an area control build you could try something like rifle with things like throw mine, turrets, tool kit (has a bit of area denial through box of nails and a pull [possibly into your mines])

Asura vs Charr technology

Infamous Darkness.3284

I’m a little confused as to where you are getting that asura have any airships to use, if anything the airships are more related to charr design and use than asura, such as can be seen here http://www.guildwarsinsider.com/charrcopter/ . Second you only mention the black citadel, you don’t even mention the blood or ash legion capitals. As I pointed out earlier I don’t believe that in any way being in the air in their capitol is an advantage, in fact it seems to be the point of extreme vulnerability as the charr also have submarines and rata sum is a costal city they may be able to bombard whatever device keeps rata sum in the air safely offshore. (as we can see by the ships in the asuras harbor area I don’t think their sea power would even be a match.) with all of these things it seems to me that the charr have the advantage in at least two of the three areas (sea, and air), I would also argue that they have the advantage on land through both numbers and a heavily equipped and battle trained infantry.

This all being said my arguments may be taken with a grain of salt as charr are my preferred race in this game (unless they bring back the seer).

Asura vs Charr technology

Lasers are hard countered by mirrors. It only worked against elder dragons and minions because they do not have mirrors.

Lasers must have line of sight. Artillery shoot in an arc, from behind a mountain or trench.

Lasers don’t kill instantly. It needs to heat up. So the user must aim at one spot for at least a few seconds before it starts doing damage. So they are only useful against large stationary targets, or target moving along a trajectory like a cruise missile. Anything that can run will quickly move away from the laser or hide behind something to prevent further damage.

Laser produce heat. Charr tanks runs on steam, which needs heat. The Charr might find a way to take that energy to fuel their tanks.

Love them Charr harder.

You are confusing what we have in real life vs. what they have in this fantasy game. Any laser that is hot enough to melt and instantly vaporize metal would also melt a mirror from heat alone. So no, fancy mirror tricks would not work.

They could theoretically build something to “catch” the energy, but they just learned how to use black powder and steam in recent years. I highly doubt they are anywhere close to building something as fancy as a Thermal Battery device.

funny that you say this, can you name one mega laser that is owned by the ASURA, I’ll start for you the megalaser on the glory of tyria (pact), megalaser at tequatl event (vigil/pact), mega lasers at fort trinity (pact). but really if you could name one I would really be happy to find out as I’ve looked and have never been able to locate one.

it caught me by surprise, I’m a little disappointed but considering I bought my gossamer scraps for about 1.23silver each think I’m ok either way, but now the worth of that time value investment has decreased.

edit: I didn’t word that last part very well, what I meant was the money that was invested in the gossamer scraps that I bought may have server a better use flipping other things rather than sitting in the form of gossamer scraps in the bank.

Masters of time, chronomacers use their magical abilities to manipulate the flow of time around them. It is their sacred duty to keep track of the time stream and decide the best conclusion to any series of events. They are a heavy armored class with low health (similar to the health of thieves, guardians, and elementalists) They specialize in control while staying in close to mid range combat.

Weapon choices:
Scepter, focus, dagger, staff, mace

Class abilities
“Fast forward”= all damage taken for the next to seconds is reduced by half including conditions.
“Reverse”= all damage taken for the last one second is returned as healing (not reduced by effects such as agony or poison)
“Quicken”= next skill used cast time is cut in half

Healing Skills:
Reincarnation = 1.5 second cast time, 45 second recharge, heals for 7500 base and removes all conditions

Diamond soul = 1 second cast time, 30 second recharge remove poison, bleed, and torment and heal for 5000

Utilities:

black hole (spacial) = for three seconds you ground target a black hole once every three seconds it pulses pulling in all targets within 700 range the damage is minor.

Forsight (time) = see your enemies moments before they happen blocking the next 3 incoming attacks and doing slight damage for each attack blocked

Stop (spacial) = for one second you ground target a 400 range area, everything in that area is stunned for one second.

Bend time (spacial)= send your enemy back in time to where they were a few seconds before target ranger 1200, blowback 600.

Shrivel (age) = target enemy receives 15 seconds of weakness

Wilt (age) = target enemy receives 5 stacks of vulnerability for 10 seconds, if targets has the weakness condition the number of vulnerability stacks in increased to 12.

Wither (age)= target enemy receives one stack of torment, if target enemy has both weakness and vulnerability conditions they receive 5 stacks of torment, and 10 seconds of poison.

Paradox (time)= summon a clone of target enemy to fight for you(works much like tazza’s skill in SE path1)

Temporal aura (time) = if you use this skill the next skill you used is copied to this skill slot for the next 25 seconds (this does not include elite skills)

Elites:

Time Shift= target area (400 range) enemies in this field attack 33% slower, this field last for 3 seconds. 180 second recharge.

Jump forward = put all your might from the next few seconds into one mighty attack (next attack deals 75% more damage) stuns yourself for 2 seconds afterwards. 60second cooldown.

why do you think flamethrower will be worth it with the update? I understand modified ammunition but that seems that it will apply to everything, and that flamethrower wouldn’t deal as many conditions as grenades or bombs.

These are all builds I just made up on the assumption that Modified ammunition will still be moved to a master level trait. They are meant for dungeons and being high damage, all of the builds use thumper turret and bomb kits for their synergy in might stacking feel free to switch out whatever skills you want these are just general templates.

High damage grenade and bomb focused
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqelIqiY3zSZF17Iy4DkGYGAGA85hc1WQIA-jwxAY/ASQAJRAJvioxWcLiGruGT5SEVDA-e
(the open slot in firearms is for modified ammunition, forceful explosives could also be switched out for shrapnel)

This build is meant for perma vigor when in combat if you feel you still really need that vigor.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqelIqiY3zSZF1LJyYBgZUfAgoC53nHyVbBhA-jwxAY/ASQAJRAJvioxWcLiGruGT5SEVDA-e
(the open slot in firearms is for modified ammunition) also feel free to move the points in tools to whatever line fits you best

Adrenal implant build for weaning yourself off the extra endurance regen when necessary.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqelIqiY3zSZF17IyoHk2EuZgKAYfeIXtFEC-jwxAY/ASQAJRAJvioxWcLiGruGT5SEVDA-e
(can take 5 points out of tools and move it into firearms for target the weak)

High damage bomb focused build.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqelIq6Z3ySZF17IxYGk+zgZAYA8RhcbLA-jwxAY/ASQAJRAJvioxWcLiGruGT5SEVDA-e
(feel free to switch the traits in tools, or switch out throw mine for something else[ex elixir gun])

hopefully this helps some of you, if not just discard it. also if you see anything that you believe could be improved on don’t hesitate to point out flaws. (also you could use givers weapons for any of these builds to increase vulnerability stacking ability if you feel you need it.)

How would dual wielding shields work? Would you use them like cymbals like in cartoons when you the smash together garbage-can lids around someone’s head?

More like bashing boxing gloves…uppercuts jabs and such.

I’m guess you already know this and I haven’t read through the whole thread but shields were often used very effectively as offensive weapons too through their ability to cause blunt force damage, also I believe that some shields were sharpened around the edges for the ability to cut, for this they weren’t as effective if I remember correctly. But in conclusion I suppose what I am trying to say is I agree that shields should be allowed to be used as a main hand offensive weapon as they are in your class suggestion.

The power of golems

in Lore

Posted by: Infamous Darkness.3284

Infamous Darkness.3284

As we see throughout the history of golemancy different means are used to control different golems, for example most golems are powered by simple magically charged power crystals, but it seems as golems get more advanced and more power is needed for them to function other power sources must be used for them to function at full effectiveness. Some examples of this are the iron forgeman in guild wars 1 this massive golem was powered by elementals, then in guild wars 2 it was recreated but this time it was powered by draconic energies. Venpa’s Ettin Crusher Suit is also similar to the iron forgeman of guild wars 1 but it is powered by earth elemental cores rather than fire elementals(ruby djinns?).

Also we see that maximizing golem effectiveness can be obtained through the mind/golem type interfaces where the golem is completely controlled by its asuran master. although there seems to be some problems with this such as what happens to Doxa and the massively impressive golem in the college of dynamics storyline. there seems to be one last possible power source, I thought could be a possibility based on this line of the “Destroyer-Essence Golem: No! Now my plans for sylvari-soul generators… will never…”, could souls also be used as a power source, are there any other possible power sources for high level golems (souls, elemental power, and draconic energy)? or do you think sylvari-soul generators implies wanting to make an army of sylvari more obedient and following the inquest?

Asura vs Charr technology

in Lore

Infamous Darkness.3284

Perfect logistics as in teleportation. No supply caravans, no field camps, just mobile gate crews. (changing gate attunements is difficult but possible; mobile gates that are set up and taken down like a firebase are entirely plausible in lore) Every military camp is a 30 second walk from your home base, and a flip of a switch on either side means the enemy can’t use them against you. The amount of personnel alone freed up by this is enormous, and that’s on top of being immune to the normal supply ambushes, delayed reinforcements, etc, that you’d expect in any large campaign.

As for organization, I don’t discount it- it’s why it’s listed in the first place. Seriously though, we’re talking about shooting canon balls at force fields. If the Charr have any hope of victory, it’s through sheer industrial might and numbers. An advantage that’s fairly weak when Asura can build a Golem factory that churns them out by the minute (it’s done in minutes in game at least- who knows what the actual time scale would be)- and Golems don’t need to be manned like tanks do. Also, since the Asura can simply gate back to a safe haven and close the gate behind them, actually conquering them by force would be nigh impossible.

Not counting plot-twist level magic events, like the destruction of entire continents or turning an entire ocean into jade. That would be cheating :P

I doubt the Asura could form themselves into a cohesive force long enough to invade another race, let alone the Charr. I’ll certainly grant that much- their obsessively competitive nature makes them too fractious to even bother trying. They have so many defensive advantages though that I think no one could ever achieve more then a stalemate versus them.

Asuran do not have perfect logistics. Those gates need to be constructed before they can be used, and as we can see that takes quite a while. They are stationary and cannot be moved. So they will be under constant artillery shelling from the Charr. That means these gates must be placed 10-15 km behind the front line to keep them safe. These 10-15 km must be WALKED by the Asurans because they do not have mechanical transportation (golems walks at the same speed as soldiers on foot. So no advantage there.). Charrs on the other hand will always move with mechanical transportation (their infantry will be fully mechanized.). Overall Asuran does have a slight logistic advantage, but not as much as you think.

And with the rapidly changing front lines in armoured warfare, anything stationary are at a huge disadvantage. Right after a breakthrough of the front line, tanks can advance rapidly to overrun anything behind.
