Bandit Crests and Geodes in Wallet!!

Yes please. These are obviously currencies, so please put them in the wallet. I get the special currency trend lately to encourage playing on that particular map for particular rewards. I frankly support this too, just don’t make me carry stacks of these.

Additionally, it is very awkward for those of us who play with many alts. Transferring the currency from one toon to the next is rather annoying and I think one of the main reasons the wallet was put in place initially. Please help!

What is a Jobotron

in Players Helping Players

Invictus.1503

Not sure if this is an entirely accurate summary of Job-O-Tron’s history, but I’ll try:

Once events in South Sun quieted down, Job-O-Tron was out of a job itself (male voice = himself?).

He then became Hob-O-Tron and spent some time wandering around Queensdale, panhandling for spare change as he tried to compete with a wandering minstrel. He was constantly harassed by the local authorities.

When Scarlet invaded Divinity’s Reach, Hob-O-Tron was kidnapped and imprisoned along with others. He was forced to entertain Scarlet’s troops (along with the minstrel) with his cough musical talent.

Afterwards, he and the minstrel were accused and sentenced by the authorities of being collaborators and were forced into public service. He served time in the Wintersday event of 2013 as Ho-Ho-Tron, I think. He was joined by the minstrel and the two of them offered competing Dolyak escorts. Players donated to the one they wished. No unique rewards were offered for either one (as far as I can recall), and I think that was a missed opportunity.

After that, he went to work as Heal-O-Tron, assisting the medical teams that were helping soldiers fighting Scarlet’s forces. This was during the time that Evon Gnashblade was pressed into service as a military supplier. If you see him today, he comments on the results of this in a very opinionated way.

I lost track of him after that. It seems he became famous as Hob-O-Tron when the tables were turned on him and has been a recurring character ever since. I, for one, hope his legend never dies and he continues to be a part of the living story.

It’s good to see he’s put his likeness and voice to good use. I’m sure proceeds are going to help pay off his debt to society.

That is about it, nice summary.

P.S. I don’t mean to be rude or anything, but if you have time to go through the forums, why not simply research it a bit? Wiki has just about all you would need, and google could fill in any blanks. I’ve never understood why people need to ask these types of questions in forums rather than just a minimal amount of research.

I am not positive but the person that I seen had it in LA told me when I asked that they got it from the Exotic Trick or Treat Champion bag from the Legendary Monsters.

You mean people are actually killing the champs? I’ve been in the Labyrinth for the past 2 hours and seen all of maybe 6 other people total, all just running around doing small door events while fleeing in terror every time the Labyrinthine Horror comes around. I’m rather surprised honestly, day 1 and already deserted? Figured people would be down doing achieves at the very least. Especially if there’s exclusive loot from the legendary bags.

Horror and Grand Viscount are ‘worth’ killing. Lich not so much. Horror seems to not have as much health as others so he can be burned down pretty quick. Viscount doesn’t take too long either. Lich on the other hand is too much of a pain, due to all the skeletons and their retaliation.

Last year, the strategy for lich was to pull him into the room and stack on him. He was way less dangerous that way.

My zerg tried that last night and it seems to not work this time. The Lich gains health every time he hits with a melee attack, so when you are all bunched up in the small room his health goes down, then he attacks and hits everybody and is back up to full health. Seems the devs didn’t like that strategy last year.

Maybe we got lucky, but we killed him on my first go-round with our little zerg (<15 people) last night, and I didn’t notice much of a difference in strategy or fight duration. The stack strategy worked just fine, and I did notice he healed some, but the minions weren’t any more annoying than last year, nor was the damage they inflicted. Then again, it seems like we had a really cohesive, albeit small, group running around last night, so that might’ve had something to do with it. Anecdotal, surely, but just my two cents!!

I think you hit on the trick right there. Small groups can handle him as their DPS can outperform the healing he gets for the melee attacks. A large group or zerg has larger DPS of course, but the healing he gets is phenomenal and make the strategy much less effective.

My input is not unique as much has already been covered, but I want to ensure my voice is heard as well.

I do not like this change for much the same reasons as mentioned above (and I’ll save you my personal ranting on that part). If I want to buy 1 or 2 black lion keys, I don’t want to have to buy 400 gems to do it. I don’t want to have to buy 1200 gems to get a gathering tool and then have 200 left over. If I want to buy something worth 30 gems, I want to be able to simply buy 30 gems.

The layout, I like. It is easier to quickly buy what you want if you want one of those pre-set amounts. Simply add an “Other Amount” option that lets me fill in exactly how many gems I want and then let it calculate the costs and give me a “buy now” button or something like that.

Take the queue from the trading post portion of the tool. If I want to buy iron, I fill in a number of how much iron I want to buy and that is the end of it. Why can’t my gems be the same way?

Disappointed With Halloween Announcement

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The scavenger hunt, while fun, was completely open world which it seems has been something the developers have moved away from (and for good reasons it seems). Besides, it was about the discovery of the Mad King himself so I don’t mind it not returning.

The dungeon fight though, seems a waste not to bring it back. It wouldn’t be out of place (fight his return every year and all) and I think would complement the Bloody Prince fight that we already have (fight King Thorn and later fight Prince Thorn).

Hopefully they change the dialog a bit so it doesn’t seem like we are ignoring the discovery of the Bloody Prince last year. If they don’t, that part may be a little silly.

I posted this in another topic, but here seems appropriate as well. I only have a few concerned about using last year’s Halloween:

1) I really miss the short dungeon for fighting the Mad King from 2012, don’t know why that couldn’t simply be added in so that we can help fight his return every year along with his son the Bloody Prince

2) The story line last year was the DISCOVERY of the Bloody Prince. If it is exactly the same this year it is rather silly because the NPC will be acting like last year never happened and we are discovering him all over again.

Beyond that I’m great with Halloween event. If they could simply add a portal to Thorn’s dungeon and rewrite the script a bit so that we aren’t pretending that the previous year never happened, I’d be extremely happy.

I think people are kitten because… WvWers and PvPers also need to explore PvE if they want a legendary.
But exploring 4 maps in wvw is now insane. Right? Right?

My point (and I’ve stated this in other threads) was that they should not have to, though. If you are a single mode player, there should be a ‘core’ set of items (including mode specific legendaries) that you can achieve just be playing your mode.

There is an option like that. Buy the legendary with gold you accumulate by playing purely your preferred mode. I know you may not like this option, but it is still an option that meets your stated requirement.

Ah yes…. that is an option to, but I’ll refrain from getting into my opinion on that. “Throw money at it” seems to be everyone’s answer these days…

You can get it without using any real money if that is what you are implying. If you use gold earned in game to get the legendary, frankly how is that any different than doing it through building the components. Either way you have invested a good deal of in-game time to earn the necessary components to get the legendary.

Patience young one. This is a very easily obtained achievement, but it does take a little time. Waiting a few weeks to get in there the easy way is not hard nor is it a bad thing in my opinion. If you want to get in there sooner, well the whole idea of WvW is cooperation.

So, easy way is simply wait and check at least once a week (hit the “B” button) and you can have it with no effort.

Little harder, but faster way is to find a cooperative group to force their way into the points you need.

I read your complaint and all I hear is “I want it now and don’t want to have to wait!” I hear the same thing every day from my 4 year old son.

Also, there is almost always at least a teaser trailer one week prior to the release of any new content, whether it is Living World or a holiday. The lack of a teaser trailer is disturbing to me. I think this is going to be one of the WORST Halloween’s this franchise will ever see.

This is likely because it isn’t new content. Look at it this way…

Same name as last year + no teaser trailer + no real advertisement of any kind + all focus being either on gemstore or LS2 = exactly the same content reloaded as last year.

And it almost seems like they are giving us even recycled content grudgingly. They won’t give us SAB and that has had backlash, I think the only reason they are even giving us anything is because they are afraid of the backlash if there was no Halloween event at all. If it wasn’t for that they likely wouldn’t do anything as it doesn’t fit into their LS season 2.

I’ve been playing since Beta and have never had a precurser drop either. That being said, how do you define “fair.” It does not mean that everybody gets the same thing, it means that everybody has equal chances to receive the same or equal item (in relations to this topic at least).

In the end, everybody has the same chances. This is the definition of “fair.” That doesn’t mean you have to like it, but just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it isn’t fair.

Pretty sure I’ve seen this posted by a dev at some point in the past. It may not be as useful for world bosses, but people are creatures of habit….

“Players can also form parties with other champion farmers, which lowers the threshold of required damage in order to receive credit.”

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Champion_farm

Brilliant. Assuming that part of the wiki entry came from someone in Anet, and not simply someone in the wider community repeating the common wisdom, that’s the sort of thing I was looking for. Many thanks.

Edit: Those words were added by userid Psycho Robot.7835 back in January of this year. He’s not a dev, and he doesn’t say where he got the info from – but, given how prevalent the view seems to be, if it were wrong I wouldn’t be surprised not to find anyone correcting it. So I’m still at the “looking for evidence” stage, I guess. If all else fails, I may have to go out and grind it for myself.

You seem rather set on getting a definitive technical answer. The fact of the matter is that there is supporting evidence (as has been linked above), but no sure thing. You are finding holes in the evidence because, frankly there are holes (though this doesn’t prove it wrong, just unable to definitively prove it right).

In the end though, your question is answered. You didn’t ask if the logic was right or wrong, you are simply asking why people do it. People do it for the variety of reasons listed already. Whether their thinking is correct, the perception that drives the behavior is the reason “why”

In the end, it comes down to one of my favorite sayings. “Perception is reality until otherwise proven.” So people perceive (whether right or wrong) that it gives benefits and therefore this drives their behavior in reality. So there is your answer. If you want an answer as to whether these perceptions are actually accurate, a lot of testing that has not been done yet (and some that would require Dev knowledge) will need done.

I think the idea is so they can pick which piece of the armor they use. Not to use the entire set.

While true the issue still remains that they would technically have to pay every single time they decide to change their stats if they want to keep the look, and for some reason I think people would complain even more about that.

Transmutation charges are very easy to come by both in game and in the gem store. I have used them freely and still have 146 left. I love mixing and matching my armor and frankly have become rather bored since no new armors have come out for a while. I don’t think I’d mind outfits, if they just alternated between releasing them and armors (maybe 1 armor for every 2 outfits released).

primary difference, and why it isn’t gambling, is that there is no legal way to convert in game currency or items to real world money. Without this component it is not really gambling, but simply playing a game for various non-monetary prizes with different levels of perceived worth. Now, if you could convert gems to $$ then yes, it would be gambling. As it is, it is not gambling.

So you also don’t know of an official statement by anet? I mean sure I could express my disappointment, and how easy it would be to change those outfits into armor (/irony off) and thus making hundreds of new possibilities for new mixed armors and that other armors also have clipping issues, etc pp…, but I asked for an official statement so I won’t start another flame thread and so this thread could be closed with just one answer.

You do realize you posted on a public forum, right? You should expect public expression on the topic, otherwise the better avenue is putting in a ticket (which will likely get a generic answer). Anet has said time and time again that they watch the forums, but don’t respond to most as they simply do not have the time/resources. Furthermore if you look at the track record of any Anet employee directly answering any vague question like this has been, you’d know that they are next to nill. They aren’t allowed to talk about such things in most cases.

So, it seems like you are either blissfully unaware of how these forums work, or your statement was very much a troll post. In either case, getting player responses should be fully expected.

Where are you getting the information that it is likely about a lich? From what I’ve seen (and the name) it appears we will get the exact same thing as last year.

As for the dungeon from year 1, I completely agree and miss this dungeon. It was very well done and fun. I’d really like a continuation of last year’s event (not a complete redo), but if that is too much trouble for them, I’d love to see this at least.

They moved to the outfits as being their (seemingly) preferred method of delivering new armor type skins. This is likely because it is easier for them to code and avoid clipping issues since you can’t mix and match the outfit pieces. This is extremely disappointing and a step backwards in the industry, but easier means less development time and money and that is the way Anet seems to be heading.

Shame it’s an outfit. As separate pieces it could be really cool, but as a one piece set and with limited dye options it’s not worth getting.

My thoughts exactly. This trend of outfits rather than armor pieces is disturbing. It is easier for Anet to create than armor pieces, so unfortunately I think this is going to be the norm. Such a shame and a step backwards!

Ghastly Grinning Shield

I think ANet had, and then threw away, the perfect opportunity to please (almost) everyone with the Fervid Censer/Desert Rose skins. The Fervid Censer was exclusive, and the Desert Rose wasn’t. Both were equally cool, so people who were at the event had a special reward, but everyone still got the chance for the same type of skin.

The same with The Fiery Dragon Sword, and Jormag’s Breath. Both equally cool, one is exclusive, one isn’t. Everyone is rewarded.

I’m hoping that if and when they rerelease the Mad Memoires (and to a lesser extent the Ghastly shield) they change the flame/grin colour. I do think everyone should be able to get something of equal quality in the same style, but that the game sorely needs rewards for loyalty/skill/persistence etc. This is why the SAB skins were so good. Anyone can get the blue version, which means no one loses out, but the green and yellow versions have a sense of “been there done that”.

I’m fine with this ^ . If the halloween skins have been modified to maintain the older versions for the players that attended the event, that would be acceptable.

Completely agree, though I doubt it will happen. Seems the people interested in these types of things have either left or been bullied into other views.

Simply put, there are some areas that do not contain any POI, WP, or Vistas. Those are the areas you are still missing

Maybe higher level mobs now give less experience, causing a logarithmic curve in leveling. Fast at low levels and slow at higher levels?

In the past, and with practically every other game I know, your gained experience is relative to your level compared to the enemy’s. Meaning you kill something higher level than you and that is an accomplishment that earns more experience. As you get higher in levels, killing things weaker than you give less experience. What I’ve seen suggests the opposite is happening, which doesn’t make sense.

Let's Take a Vote

The vote is kinda bias imho, should just be “Do you like this new changes? Yes/No/Not apply”. Breaking down the not-like into so many categories while like in just one is an attempt to divert the Nah votes.

Btw. I voted “not apply” option, since the trait update already kill my desire to make new alts, this update really just reinforce it.

Yes the vote is pretty well worded to divert people from the dislike vote. Pretty sneaky.

So I decided to level a new toon to see what all the fuss was about. I’m not going to comment on the experience as a whole because that is a different type of thread.

What I found very odd was that currently I’m lvl 24 (lvl 20 experience scroll + completing chapters 10 & 20) and so have to level to get to the next chapter. I went out to Gendarren Fields and killed a few lvl 30 enemies, but only got 3 experience. 3!

Next I made my way to Queensdale and killed a lvl 16 enemy and got 24 experience (+ 11 bonus). How in the world does this make sense?

From Wiki, and note that large area events scale based on vacinity, so if most people on on one side/location that part scales more than the parts with less people.

Events scale both up and down according to the number of players who are currently participating. 3 Events can scale in a number of ways:

Enemy stats can be increased
Enemies can gain new abilities
New enemy types may appear, including veterans or even champion versions
Enemy count can be increased
Objective requirements may increase

Sooooo…No S.A.B because it doesn’t fit with the current LS. But we get Halloween, because what? Thorn is the new villain of the story? Doubt it. Inconsistency in what somebody says breeds doubt in a validity of the comment. I call foul (though I am looking forward to Halloween event )

Love that they gave the reason for it not returning as it not being part of the LS2. So here’s my question, what does “Blood and Madness” Halloween event have to do with LS2? And after that, I’m sure we’ll have Wintersday around the corner, how do little walking and fighting toys, or presents, or the like have to do with LS2?

Lack of consistency indicates dishonesty. What is the real reason for SAB not coming back?

New leveling system = grindy

I hate that I have to go so long doing nothing but pressing “1” and healing. Then bit later I get the priveledge to press “2” every so often. If I were a new player I would think this game too grindy and simple and likely quit.

This works well in China as the Asia market has shown to like grind, but I can’t see this being effective in the western world.
