don’t forget EU server with multiple time zone… Witch timezone will you choose ?
Nop, wvw is 24/24… Not only during day…And where were you today eh mister? I had to get hills done all by myself (not really, lol).
Also, NA should get its stuff together. It has to be boring as heck to do the same matches each week. EU was smart and spread out, you guys are only doing it to yourselves. It’s ok not to be No. 1, it’s a game, should be fun, and all about the challenges of a changing weekly enemy.
Back in the old days of Planet Side 1 people would actively try to balance the factions for better fights, because fights were more important than winning. How times have changed! But I don’t think it’s just bandwagoning that’s the issue. I think the WvW populations in NA are just too small compared to the server populations. And the system doesn’t encourage balancing populations because of the 1800 gem cost. But as a counter point someone on reddit posted the number of people per server with a certain amount of achievement points and the high ranked NA servers had ten times the lower ranking servers of players over that threshold. Which leads me to believe that Anet has been lying to us about the actual populations on certain servers.
I can’t find the post but if I got to the achievement leaderboards, which only lists 40 pages of players. For Blackgate the lowest score listed is 14257. While Eredon Terrance’s 40 pages ends with an achievement score of 5257. That doesn’t prove ET has less players, but it should raise questions.
I believe what you describe (AP on higher/lower servers) is the result of many players eventually moving to higher tiers. Most new players have no idea about server differences and some don’t even know the server they belong to. But as people spend more and more time in wvw, many of them transfer up. In short, it’s wvw active players ending up on high tier servers. Casual players on other hand transfer less, why spend rl money on gems to transfer if they play the game once in a while. People who stop playing still belong to a server.
This was happening in pve until megaservers were introduced as well. More people in pve meant higher chances of getting big events done.
Anet most likely counts in any player that belongs to a server, active, casual or those who stopped playing.
I really don’t care about Anet removing WvW rank buff, but I hate the hypocrisy and the “WvW player always loses in this game”.
They are always adding thing nobody ask for, like EoTM, and I have ZERO expectation in the new WvW content in the upcoming expansion.
I remember only 1 thing and is commanders tags colors, took more than a year and we had to fight the price at the end….
Your only reasoning is that what you perceive as loss on your side, should be distributed to other players by nerfing rewards from content they play.
That’s reasoning out of spite.
Btw, even though wvw could do with improved rewards, the loot is still there and believe it or not, many wvwers crafted their asc from stuff they got in wvw. And you want my gear nerfed so you feel better. Hypocrite.
Most condi removal is tied to stealth or sword (but that sucks vs condi bombs). Condi engi can apply reveal and those few seconds are enough for a power thief to melt, combine that with the amount of cc engi has, thief has hard time vs engi.
Other condi builds, can’t prevent the thief from clearing condis that well. Thief can stealth off mesmer clones, condi rangers don’t have lb knockback etc.
Remove stealth from a thief and you get warrior with half the HP, lower armour and lower dmg.
i see…thanks!
Also another question. why medi guard? I play a medi guard myself, GS+scepter/focus. I’m an average medi guard.
Admittedly I don’t struggle much against thieves, but there are still a few exceptionally skilled thieves who can kill me.
And condi thieves got a higher chance of killing me too.So what is it about a medi guard that hard counters a thief? is it more sustain, more blocks, more dps, more blinds?
Well, the only thief block is underwater soo :P
It’s the aoe nature of most guard skills, aoe ignores stealth and thieves need to get into melee to burst.
I will certainly miss that extra HP my zerker thief/ele love so much but I am glad they will remove applied strenght/fortitude.
It requires no gold investment to get those traits, unlike crafting asc, you get ranks just by standing somewhere in wvw. You lose nothing when the buffs are gone.
Most importantly, the buffs are quite significant, especially fortitude on low HP classes.
If you think venomshare is meh, check YT for some “venom wells” vids.
Although my fav is to get our thief load basi when I play ele, I switch to lighting rod that combined adds 3-5k to my initial burst.
Immob and basi is all you need.

Everything works better next to a friendly.
The reason some still play D/D in wvw are the extra stats and no reduced dmg on CnD (vs pvp). With that extra burst, D/D is okay for killing fast but still lacks the utility of other sets.
Generally I just stick to ele for overworld boss events.
I know I am not helpful repeating that but after 2yrs of doing everything with thief, ele seems a lot better for world bosses, great range/dmg. 900 range with thief is just way too limiting (not just for pve), sb dmg vs single target sucks. You can go melee and risk dying in 1 hit.
I use ele for anything pve.
personally:
dps guard (blocks/blinds/burst)
condi signet ele (counters anything power and I find it really hard to kill a decent one, usually I have to switch to d/p for interrupt)
reveal on demand (perfect after they condi bombed me or they just chain it)
Yesterday I got rekt by failed steal for no valid path while standing next to the target, today I heard about the reveal bug and I logged to my thief just to get swap trinkets to my ele.
Too many bugs.
what happens to +stats in trait lines?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Jayden Ennok.3687
It will take like piece or two of gear to change the stats to get same stats as in current builds.
One thing people are forgetting, especially in pve where survivability stats are not needed, all those classes with defensive/offensive stats in one trait line, will get a dps buff in HoT. They’ll be able to build completely offensively (stats wise), not like now.
New dungeons/fractals
They mentioned new group content, all I am hoping for that it’s not SW style stuff.
I just want some new dungeons and more difficult bosses. Colin, make it happen <3
Also, you do realise that the majority of “WvW-ers” also play PvP, right?
While it’s true that they don’t play PvP as much as a “PvP-er”, most of the folk there have high ranks and good ratios in terms of win/loss because of them knowing how to fight in group compositions just as well, if not better, than a “PvP-er”.I said it before that I agree that D/P is the better option, but when people give bad intel, something has to be said :P
The points you two mentioned can both be overcome and are issues based on the player’s “skill”, rather than the weapon set.
Perhaps your server and those in your match have wvwers of average skill so good, they are great in pvp too. On my home server and all those I’ve ever transferred to with my alts, I could consider average wvwer skilled when he double dodges on a sight of a thief.
Yes, there some good wvw players, but they are not the average wvw player.
Plea to reconsider adding "melee staff"

If you don’t want to hit people with a flimsy magic-type staff, then use a different, sturdier-looking skin.
Well, I personally don’t care what skins other people use, but gw2 certainly lacks those more realistic looking weapons. For example, the best gs I’ve found is Kymswarden, which looks good on my female sylvari guard, my human male looks like wielding a sword, not gs.
There are plenty of other fairly realistic looking GSes (besides the default crafted look):
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aureate_Highlander_Greatsword
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ebon_Vanguard_Greatsword
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ebonblade
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Krytan_Greatsword
Are a few, and there are more. The same applies to most weapons.
Existence of few doesn’t mean they are plenty, especially when compared to the number of flashy looking skins.
Any selection based on ranks/BoH, time spent in wvw/eotm will give a group of players with biased view on the test map.
The selection should be random.
Ye, but if they do it “random like” a lot of pve players will get into map and they won’t test anything wvw related. That is why i suggested only WvW ways to get beta. Same like for PvE beta u can only get it by playing PvE not WvW to let PvErs test it out and not some pvp / wvw players.
You mean that SW grind that anyone could do? WvWers were given just as same chance there as pvers. Anyone who subscribed to the newletter got a chance at getting to first stress test, pvp test was open to all.
Playing wvw doesn’t warrant special testing skills. Most gw2 players stepped to wvw at least once, where would you draw the line “real wvwer” or pver? Ranks? You realise that high ranks are often earned by farming in eotm or zerging, it’s pve in another form.
I have a high rank and still I think the selection should be random.
you can create a group called “cof path 1 anyone welcome”. The only problem is you get many new players and people with low AP too. So run might not be as smooth.
I got alt accounts that I use for doing dungeons and I come across same problem as OP. While valid, creating anyone welcome parties often turns out to be a nighmare full of rage quitters that don’t listen.
OP, I suggest finding a suitable guild, once people see you are experienced, they won’t care about your ap.
It’s the only place you’re gonna find bad players unless you transfer to a low tier server.
So you assume people on low tier are generally bad, because they play on a low tier?
I have that opinion that the lower tier, the lower average skill. I don’t assume, it’s what I’ve seen when playing on both EU/NA server in gold/silver and bronze.
There are more fights in higher tiers and also people tend to transfer higher up the longer they play wvw. A seasoned veteran tends to be better than a rank 20 player.
@Jayden Orr as stated ingame should be healing itself. Actually all undead there should have dissapeared together with the death of the one who made them Zhaitan…that is also stated ingame both text and several cutscenes.
Who says if you get rid of undead you can’t create something else. As the OP said it could be like an option to go to new orr or old orr. That map has potential and would be awesome if it’s revitalized…bringing back some of the old orr architecture…see growth coming back to total distruction…etc. I would actually play that.
It’s all down to how limited and/or lazy the devs are. I prefer paying gems for something like this rather then ugly/useless pets/cosmetics and whatever they seem to be putting most of their effort in. Content over skins.
And that’s where players’ views on this divide, I like how Orr looks like and I wish that whatever progress, if any, the devs will bring to the area will have minimum impact on its looks. I’d add more dirt, blood and pain to any map :P
Also, average pvper is much better at denying CnD than average wvwer. You can wep stow to save ini but in a fight, it’s so easy to lose cos of 1 denied CnD. With D/P, there are still options, D/D is just very limited.
Don’t touch Orr, the map is awesome and perfectly fits the story behind it. You can’t have grass and flowers so soon after the soil was soaked with dragon influence. The place will be dead for long time.
On other hand, the map feels dead not only it its atmosphere but also the events, I’d really like if they would add more events happening around.
Someone mentioned sending the “good” sylvari there to cleanse Orr, sounds pretty cool, let the veg do the dirty job (good way to introduce some new events to the area).

You were lucky to get people that stayed for those 5 hours. Most inexperienced pugs rage quit when things don’t go right, for some dungeons as early as in first 5mins of the run (that AC spider queen is a great rager filter).
@Maybe
I stayed away from dungeons for 1.5yr not for lfgs, but that every time I tried some dungeon/fractals with other noobs, most of the party left sooner or later. I just wish I met people like OP did.

I wouldn’t base any buff/mechanic on outnumbered but the % of map the weak server holds. A server can be dominating but still outnumbered on some maps.
Aaaaand no shrine for 1000 sups in a keep, man, how do you suppose weak server does that when they got nothing on map.
My suggestion God’s Intervention II – upon reaching 10% or lower for map coverage (on all maps), all spawns for that server get Laser Evaporation Gun 9000 that would deal with those pesky spawn campers.
Would it completely fix wvw problems once and for all? No.
Would it be fun to use? 10/10
And yeah, having higher supply carrying capacity would help too.
Imagine the confusion in dungeon lfgs.
Actually the possibility of Critbuilds that maintain 80%+ Critchance is a viable option in a lot of MMO’s… Only usually to get that high of a crit-chance, they need to “sacrifice” raw damage and sometimes a few of whatever their equivalent of traits is. The real problem is gear giving both precision AND power. Or rather, giving too much power AND precision..
Why is it a problem?
Does anyone run a low crit, high ferocity build?
Actually people do, not in pve but wvw/pvp cav/valky gear is used especially with builds using 100% crit under certain condition traits or intelligence sigil.
First when I saw the info about the beta portal drop, I liked the idea cos it’s more active participation than subscribing to email and I can actually increase my chances if I’d decide to grind SW.
What I don’t like about it, why SW/Dry Top only. Some people prefer other parts of the game, some detest SW/Dry Top completely. I personally find these 2 maps really boring after quite short time and I hardly ever stay there longer than 1 hour.
In my opinion, this adds to the frustration some have over the rng grind, they feel forced to play content they don’t enjoy.
Also adding the portal as a rare reward from world boss chests couldda been an interesting concept. It’s still open world, which is the thing, they want to test in their next beta. It would give players another way to get into the beta without grinding silverwastes(and instead running world boss trains)
But the problem at hand here is: People, who don’t like running open world content and run dungeons, pvp or wvw to no end complain about having to run open world PvE to participate in an open world pve only beta?
Makes no sense. Yes, they should have added the reward to other forms of open world pve, but I’m actually strictly against what some other players suggested, like adding the reward to wvw, dungeons or pvp.
It’s obvious, Arena.net wants to test large scale pve events in the upcoming beta. All the people, who complain about “being forced” to run silverwastes to participate in the beta would then complain about the beta “forcing” them into running large scale events?
At some point, it becomes ridiculous.
Vast majority of players play more than 1 gamemode, even if they prefer one, they do other content from time to time.
Stronghold beta was open to everyone, pvp much or not at all? Didn’t matter, all could try the map and I am sure that few of those that never pvp, tried stronghold just cos it’s the “beta stuff”.
There are tons of pvper/wvwers and dungeon runners who even if they don’t do open pve much, would enjoy trying something new just as those who spend all the time in open world.
Here is how to squeeze out the absolute most dps possible from staff. You will want to sit in fire and use fireball and lava font and flame burst and meteor shower once you blow all your long cooldowns, though in a boss fight this won’t happen until 15-20 seconds into the fight.
How is pre stacking with s/f/d for a boss fight relevant to
I have been roaming the silverwastes/dry top on my Ele. In group events, Staff is an obvious choice. When I am just running around and soloing against 1 enemy at a time, I find that I am not getting much DPS out of my staff
aka killing some random mob here and there. I totally see him pre stack 25 to bust a lone mordrem wolf.
On a serious note, I think its a bad idea to level fully to lvl 80 without trying out the gameplay, especially as an Ele.
.
Wow, that is the 1st time I’ve seen that, its a pretty cool skin.
When I read “staff with raven animations” I imagined something more dark, medieval looking, not a fancy version of ley line wep. Too bad anet goes for cute, pretty looks most of the time.
What is a support thief?
A thief who use support skills to support his team?
No really, if you want support your team then take another class, their support skills (especially Venomshare) aren’t worth it or better use stealth and dmg skills.
I was looking for a way to pin the enemy train to one point so they wont run out of the necros wells etc.. I thought about venom share but now I read that it wasnt viable. Could you point out a better alternative, please?
Currently we are running sigils of hydromancy on our melees, but the cold applied does not seem to suffice :<
Venom share + necro wells melt everyone, immob with dmg from zerker necro is so potent, venom wells are considered cheese by many.
Cause the camera change made it possible,i guess…
It was possible before the change, just a little trickier.
Yeah, dragon tooth only needs to select target and be within range. It’s great for defending gates too as it hits the ram when standing behind a wall.
I think the new field of view is fine, previously anyone with multiple monitors could do same, now it’s available to everyone. But why these skills/siege ignore LoS is mind-boggling, makes sieging up irrelevant.
lol, the guy is so original, really after all those complaints he still picked character name almost same as his previous account name banned weeks ago
Finally got mine after about 20 hours grind and 3k+ geodes from a random Skritt in Dry Top. Going to continue grinding this zone now till I finish the amberite wep collection, see you in beta!
I heard if you grind Dry Top too much, the dry climate will turn you into a fossil too :P
First when I saw the info about the beta portal drop, I liked the idea cos it’s more active participation than subscribing to email and I can actually increase my chances if I’d decide to grind SW.

If you want to duel certain class and you don’t like pvp duelling arenas, go to wvw and ask if they know some enemy that plays that particular class and who they think would give you advice.
Especially on lower tier servers, many people know each other and if you are lucky, you will find someone right away.
If you have troubles vs particual build in pvp, ask the person, experienced player will be able to switch builds to practise with you, even if it’s not their usual/fav build.
I never made a legendary so I am assuming that even if you change stats, you still have to replace sigils if you want them to match with stats. Quite expensive in long term.
I haven’t done spvp since launch. I copied a warrior spec from metabattle and tried a match today and to say that it went terribly would be an understatement.
I could barely dent lifebars, people were basically immortal. My evis hit for garbage even when it was auto crit.
Is the spec bad for what I’m trying to do or is it me? I can’t see how I can do any more damage than I was doing.
This is the build I was trying. http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Warrior_-_Axebow
This build relies a lot on stacking might with lb, you won’t do much more dmg but definitely higher than with no might. The other day warr using that build evis’d me for 8.5k (zerker thief), that’s on top of decent condi dmg.
I hate that people do this. Not because they do it to me, but because when I just want to talk to someone and chat about a good fight or something, they assume I’m going to flame and don’t accept the party invite.
Some people just don’t want to talk to enemies cos well, enemies, two opposing sides etc.
I chat with enemy players a lot and came across few that just can’t get over that mentality. They are rare, polite but very stubborn about their view on talking to enemies so they try to cut any conversation the moment the realise it’s from enemy.
Most don’t accept parties to avoid possible abuse, I do agree with that.
Create a list of OS1, OS2, OSx, I don’t how many would be best, accessible to all from the usual wvw map selection.
That way I can duel anyone from any server, gvgs can happen too.
And yeah, first disable kill/xp count from OS. I don’t want that T1 ultimate dominator farm everywhere.
Once you go 50, you understand why some consider 150 not that great.
Or go d/d, 6SA with shadow embrace and regen for that particular fight (would be good for the last boss fight too since most of the time you run with the fire balls, burn is on you).
That boss you are talking about, he seems to agro on low HP targets (always goes after my ele), yes gw2 agro system is just weird. You’ll get focused a lot in particular fights. It helps to let someone else get the agro first (heavies should really do this all the time) and if you get another low HP class in party (like eles, those are tasty victims of gw2 agro), put 3pts in acrobatics and watch that ele get rekt.
I am afraid of mesmers, very afraid. The majority are harmless, but there are those that you don’t see, then there is a flash of pink around me and I am downed and jealous of that burst.
I totally read that thread title wrong.
I have a question for anybody that got a Beta drop.
What class were you playing when it dropped?
Zerker staff ele that ranges everything.

Makes me wonder what elite thieves will get and the amount of QQ it’ll generate
I spent an hour on first day, never saw anyone link it so assumed the drop rate was too low to bother. Yesterday I decided to get that endless skritt tonic and it took me over 2 hours, saw 2 guys link portals during that time and that looked like the drop rate got better.
Portal dropped after 15mins from event chest. Now I am afraid to tell my guildie who already accused me of being a secret dev after I got Dusk on the day he wanted to buy a pre to craft a legendary.
