Actually, guildie showed me a thief combo the other day that will let them catch you from 1800 away. There’s no getting away from that, running away just means you’ll die tired.

You are confusing closing a gap from 1800 away with applying dmg at particular range.

I can get very salty when a group of 30 chases me across half the map, kills me, some proceed to spam emotes on me and then the whole group goes in the direction where the chase started from.

Or it makes me laugh when I know they just wasted 1-2minutes while guildies flipped their T3.

Duration isn’t the problem of this trait but what you need to do to gain that boon vs what it should help you with.

That fixed the problem for me and others.

Since you tried wvw, ask enemy thief to duel with you and advise you. Watching youtube vids is helpful as well but someone experienced who’d duel you can point out why you lose, it’s not always obvious to a new player.

Not everyone in wvw is nice but you’ll find someone willing to help.

Don’t forget your dungeon run depends a lot on the party you are with. If others don’t know what to do and/or don’t listen, even a good player dies a lot.

If you are EU, I do some dungeons almost daily and could take you for few runs with my guildies.

Almost all my characters I created during first year of the game are norn chicks but I eventually created new characters for my fav classes in human/sylvari or asura. Lovely curves are awesome and all, when in combat tho, some skill animations are just weird or you have to take into account the animation might look bigger than the actual skill range.

How do you do that?

GS 3 counts as 2 leaps as long as you stay in Hs for the whole animation. You can do this by leaping on an enemy in the water field or placing it against a wall and leaping at the wall. Then swap weapons and use war horn 5 to blast and sword 2’s leap.

your drake can also be used as a blast finisher but it’s a little more rng. The drake usually opens with a blast so if you have your healing spring down on your target you can swap to the drake and it should blast.

Not instantly. After “some” time the skill to detect stealthed would activate – and not at 100%.

How about a skill that makes mesmer unable to cast clones, or one that locked out certain elements on elemetalist. How about one that makes Guardians unable to cast boons and necros unable to shroud.

There’s a thing called revealed for thieves. After you leave stealth, you cannot reapply stealth for 6 seconds. This is displayed by a countdown icon that is an eye that blinks where your boons/conditions are shown. When this symbol is up, you cannot re-stealth for it’s duration.

Actually it’s 3s in pve/wvw, 4s in pvp, 6s only from rangers/engies, forever from stealth trap :P

anyway i wouldnt go thief thief. face the wrong class and ur thief thief setup is useless unless u both dont mind to run away find another victim. on the other hand thief thief is nice if u want to pick the fights.

TL;DR: Again, the main thing is that I don’t want a weapon whose kit encourages stationary combat, especially since this is the only specialization we’ll be getting for a while. The ranger part – rangers seem boring due to the fact that most play lb. A melee ranger with sword/gs on other hand can surpass sword thief in some aspects but it requires more skill than sword thief to be played on this level.

I asked cos the dmg difference between sword aa/pw is somewhat irrelevant when the skills are compared with all aspects not just dmg. PW has stun/evade and it’s initiative hungry so I wouldn’t use it just for the dmg alone.

Also depending on the build (I am thinking x/6/x/x/6 here), you can get up to 25% dmg increase if you don’t dump all ini into pw (first strikes/lead attacks). So imo, it’s still better to use aa when possible and PW only if I want to evade/stun. Don’t take me wrong, PW hits like truck (yolo builds can down squishies with single PW) but if you use all ini on spamming PW, you are dead.

They don’t see damage numbers when stealthed. Any implication that they see you is them guessing (successfully) where you are.

People can however see fire blast from fire sig and heal numbers (on them) if they have any heal on dmg trait/lifesteal food and their HP isn’t full.

You know that day you get a precusor drop, the bags will be full.

I know I’m going to get some heat for this but the great swords charge ability needs its ranged halved. Currently its used for running away or gaining ground. It’s rarely used as a charge. (intended use) That in itself is past the scope of what the warrior is suppose to be doing. Either make charge a ability where you NEED a target WITHIN range or nerf the range.

They could make it like ele’s RTL, hit a target = normal cd, no hit = longer cd.

It’s all about mind games I think when faced against a mesmer. I’ve been gaming for a year now on my thief and have only met 3mesmers that completely out play me cause they don’t give me a chance to touch them. Once they hit, they hit hard. Then again I wasn’t as good as I’m now but I’d say the honestly the thief as an advantage if we stealth enough and apply the right amount of pressure.

Most mesmers go into a chicken mode when facing a thief, blow up defensive cooldowns/dodges right when I go into stealth and by 2nd CnD, they have nothing.

Good mesmer plays aggressively and won’t even let me CnD of clones, if he can make me go into chicken mode first, he wins. Met very few of those that don’t lose the fight on the sight of a thief.

Thieve’s shortbow is a perfect example of Anet’s “…if it aint broke, fix it so it appears we’re doing something!” philosophy. First it was decrease the range. Then it was reduce the projectile speed. Then it was the backwards evade induces lag. Then it was the poison field causes revealed.
Now it is nothing more than an escape/mobility tool and a bagger tagger.

For the longest time, I was under the mindset that it was required no matter what. A while ago I put mine in storage and haven’t looked back.

While rubber banding is not why I ditched sb, it took me a while to get used to not having the sb ports/range. I still have sb in my inv when I need to aoe a wall or when running with zerg, otherwise I don’t touch it. Certainly sb can be very useful and in hands of a good thief deadly too, but I prefer melee for secondary wep set. I feel naked with sb :x

I know Rangers are the pet class. I just wanted to get rid of this one pig. It doesn’t fight – just stands there and snuffles. I wouldn’t care except that it pops up often in the middle of combat, replacing whatever useful pet I already have out. And then it does the snuffling thing, so I don’t even have to put it on passive really. It already is passive!

When you acquire a pet, it’s in pet management (sort of like a pet bank) available for you to activate it, you can only have 2 land pets active at a time. So if you select another pet instead of the pig, it’ll just sit in pet management and won’t bother you by being useless.

I don’t think you can give a up pet once acquired, just swap it in the pet management for a pet you prefer.

One thing that has always irked me about this issue is that there’s no report option for “hacking/exploiting”. It’s sometimes annoying enough to try and right-click on the person while they’re blinking away in order to report them at all (which gets to be impossible if they break through the ground), but then when you do, there’s no option to report them for what they’re actually doing.

I generally select “botting” for my report option, but I don’t feel that’s entirely accurate. My concern here is that I’m reporting them for something they’re technically not doing, and thus someone might look at it and say “no, that person wasn’t botting, they were definitely playing the game as evidenced by X, Y, and Z”, and thus nothing is done about it.

I bet having no “report hacker” option in the menu keeps the staff costs down. Many people don’t even report when they see no option in menu and very few know they can send mail to GM about it.

He probably receives tons of mails from players, I wouldn’t expect a reply. Anet isn’t very fast on dealing with hackers, apparently they won’t ban without themselves seeing the player using 3rd party program in the game. It usually takes ages to ban someone.

When I mailed him about the hacking UW thief several weeks ago, no reply either, I kept seeing the player online long after that as well. But eventually he got banned. Give GM’s name to others in map chat, the more reports, the more pressure on them to deal with it.

I didn’t get the stomp off and, in the time it took me to run to where there spawn is (SW corner of the BL), he was coming out. Sounds like enough time to pass through two loading screens (one leaving and one coming) and then run out from the portals.

The fact that the game has hackers doesn’t make every single unexplained situation a hack case.

From having played both Ranger and Thief extensively, Line of Sight is key.
Either they’ll have to get close (_which will usually allready take a few seconds _) or they wait/run off. Whatever the situation, they’re wasting time and 6 seconds isn’t very long.
I’d also advice you to simply learn surviving without Stealth. You can use mobility in a defensive manner aswell. Especially in WvW situations where there’s plenty of objects and height differences for you to work with.
Also, don’t forget about Dagger Storm if Rangers (wether they run Sic ‘em or not) are a problem. You can use it in several ways because of the fact that it’s a whirl finisher (Drop Shadow Refuge and whirl in it for LifeSteal, drop a smoke field for stacks of blinds…) Just be creative with whatever setup you’re running.

Some weapon sets’ mobility depends on leaps not teleports, try to stay mobile with dagger mainhand if you have cripple/immob on and bunch of other condis to cover it up.

Not saying sic em is op, to me it seems like a waste of utility when I play a ranger. What I don’t like that it counters dps for dagger mainhand sets and condi removal.

I use D/D & S/D so when a ranger uses sic em, I switch to sword if not in S/D already and kill the ranger. Most don’t expect a thief play aggressive with reveal on so they panic. S/D has teleport and its dmg isn’t dependent on stealth.

Sic em becomes a problem if the ranger knows when to use it. Only a noob ranger pops reveal at the very first sight of thief, the smart ones wait and watch you play for a bit. So in my case, I use steal/shadowstep and when I switch to D/D, and suddenly reveal on = dead if I can’t break LoS.

I found sic em the worst on condi rangers since they usually use it to prevent me from cleansing condis. When condi bombed, those 6s are enough to down me from full HP even if I try to cleanse with shadowstep/sword 2.

OP, tell us what build you use so you get some relevant advice.

What is your secondary when you play P/P? With pistol main, I found that using a weapon that doesnt require a target for autoattack helps a lot.

The way stealth works in gw2 means it is needed in many aspects including dmg and condi removal. Yeah, non stealth options are generally lackluster but they are still better than nothing and with 6/6/0/0/2 your only defence is offence. I liked 0/6/0/4/4 with IP and pain response for P/P.

Also, even stealth skills can be used aggressively, ie, blinding powder for sneak attack or sneak attack/unload from SR hurts a lot and heals. It is mainly SA that rewards for staying in stealth for long but stealth doesnt have to be played only that way.

You cant equip 2 same rings but if you infuse one in MF with fractal essences, you can equip 2 zerker rings.

You can also do that if you take one with a defensive infusion slot, which in this case would be Crystalline Band.
