Hiya, Miles! Thanks for explaining about you and everything you’re looking for; it really helps guild recruiters.

So from what you’ve said, I think my guild, Ember Solace, could be a good fit for you. We’re on Tarnished Coast, but with the megaserver system, that won’t be an issue unless you’re wanting to do WvW. You said “every aspect,” so I wasn’t sure, but if you ever did decide you wanted to transfer, we do cover half the cost for members.

We have many older gamers in the guild, including those in their 40s and 50s. We do have some younger members, including those in their early 20s, but I assure you we have a very mature atmosphere. We actually have a detailed Purpose and Principles that we require everyone to read and sign when joining, and I’ve found that between that and our application process, we have an amazing member group.

Anyone who registers on our forums gets read-access to our GW2 sections (and can read our ShoutBox), so you could always try that and see if we give off the kind of vibe you’re looking for.

While we do have a lot of newbies (and some who just bought the game a few weeks ago), we also have a strong base of members who have been playing since launch. We enjoy mentoring each other in different facets.

We also have a 100% rep policy and activity policy that ensures our members are loyal and active, and we’re definitely in it for the long haul, as you said.

Currently, we have 75 members in the guild. We have anywhere from 40-55 log in every day, with our main activity happening during the evening EST time zone. We use TeamSpeak3, and most people use it for activities. We don’t require anyone to use it, but it’s very active during peak times. Lots of members enjoy dungeons and many do daily dungeons of one sort or another. It’s easy to find someone else to team up with, and two of our PvE Assistants, Kiore and Speitzer, are forming a regular dungeon group.

We also have a very active social side to the guild. Our Social Officer, Kaz, hosts several events from giveaways to GW2 Trivia to Guess the Number to Music Trivia (clips of music played over TS where people have to guess the song). Additionally, I run a weekly GW2 Riddle Contest and am hosting a November Art & Writing Contest with gold prizes. I think you might like my guild, Ember Solace. We are on the smaller side, with about 70 members but about 15-20 on at one time. We’re on Tarnished Coast, but you wouldn’t have to transfer because you can still do everything with us from Darkhaven, except for WvW. We do help pay for some of the transfer cost, though, so if you decided to transfer later, we could help.

Oooh, college! We have several college students, and we definitely understand how that can make it tough to play. We have a Leave of Absence policy where if you’re going to be gone for a couple weeks or more, you can just make a post letting us know (Finals are around the corner for many, so some of our college students have done this).

We’re 100% rep (not sure if you’ve come across this term yet, but it basically means that even though you can be in up to 5 guilds in GW2, we require our members to just stick to one guild: ours), and we have an application. Please don’t feel intimidated by the application; it’s not about gear or gaming experience or stuff like that. It’s actually designed to help us get to know you better and make sure our guild stays friendly and welcoming to people.

Explorable dungeons are so much fun! Two of our PvE Assistants, Kiore and Speitzer, are working on putting together a regular dungeon group so people can experience the dungeons and have lots of fun. We ran TA forward and CoE story the other night, and it was a great experience, with everyone getting to watch the cut scenes and having fun. ^^

Although we do have TS3, we don’t require anyone to use it. Sometimes people will be on TS to listen but just not talk, and just type replies in guild chat. Other times, people will not get on TS at all, and will just use guild chat and party chat to communicate.

Or do you mean more of a guild that knows what it’s doing and can do Arah, team PvP, WvW, Guild Missions, etc. all successfully? Because my guild, Ember Solace, doesn’t require certain builds, but we definitely do the other stuff successfully. We use TeamSpeak3 and are focused on being a warm, welcoming community with a range of activities from trivia nights to the TA Aetherblade path to team PvP and more.

Hiya, Heroik! My guild, Ember Solace, loves newbies. That’s why we have a Guidance Officer, Veronica, and her Guidance Assistants, Nil and Memmi, who are specifically there to help out with all newbie stuffs. Plus, our members are super friendly and welcoming in general. We have a few people in the guild who just got the game recently and don’t know a lot yet, and we’ve enjoyed showing them the ropes.

We’re a casual guild on Tarnished Coast, and even though you’re on Blackgate, because of the new megaserver system (basically, all of the servers kind of combine so your homeworld isn’t as important), you wouldn’t have to transfer, and you’d still be able to do everything with us except for World vs. World (WvW).

I’m not sure if you’d come across WvW yet, but it’s large-scale PvP that pits servers against other servers (which is why we can’t join up together for it — it’d be like fraternizing with the enemy!) in big battles.

So if you’d want to WvW with us, you’d need to transfer to Tarnished Coast, which costs 1800 gems. We pay for half of the transfer cost, but I know the other half is still a lot for a player who is just starting out.

We do have an application and a trial period, so if you wanted, you could apply on our forums, try us out for two weeks, and then decide if we feel like a good fit. If so, and you want to do WvW, we can start brainstorming how to raise funds to steal you away to Tarnished Coast. And then if not, there’s no hard feelings, and you can resume your guild search. So if you’re game, go fill out the app, and if not, I understand and wish you luck in the search. =)

That’s awesome that your son talked you into GW2. We have a few parents in the guild, and some play video games with their kids.

I know you’re on Sea of Sorrows and you’re really into WvW, so I’m not sure if we’d work out, but we’re such a great fit in other areas that I thought I’d say hi and see what you think, just in case.

We’re definitely family-friendly. We have a Purpose and Principles that clearly spells out our expectations of guild members and sets forth a very kind, caring guild environment.

We’ve got the “do things as a group” thing covered. =) I’ve attached a screenshot of our Calendar & Events thread. If you register on the forums, you get read-access to our GW2 sections so you can scope us out (and make sure we mean it when we say “family friendly”). But just in case, this screenshot shows you the events we have lined up for this week. As you can see at the bottom, we have an archive of all the past week’s events going back to February.

We’ve got a nice variety of stuff, and it’s all casual. No one is required to do any event, and people also step up to lead spontaneous events on top of the scheduled ones in the image.

We do have a 100% rep policy, but as you can see, we’re very active, so we hold up our end of the bargain for that, too.

Let’s see, what else… oh! We’re on Tarnished Coast. Right now, it’s 1800 gems to transfer over, but we have a guild fund to cover half that cost. No one is required to transfer over, but since you like doing WvW, it’s probably something you’d want. We do have a WvW Havoc Squad that runs every Friday night with Will, who is fantastic. Plus, people like hopping into WvW spontaneously throughout the week.

Heya, Mirelin. Welcome back to Tyria! Your work schedule and desire for a casual environment sound like you might be a good fit with my guild, Ember Solace. We’re a casual, PvX guild on Tarnished Coast (but no one is required to transfer).

Most of our scheduled events do take place during the times that you typically work, but no one is required to attend specific things. Our activity policy is just that you rep us 100% and log into the game and our guild forums at least once a month. That’s it. =)

We have several PST and UK players who are active during daytime/late night EST, so there would be people online for you to talk to and hang out with. And even though most of the scheduled stuff happens during your work, there are always people doing spontaneous things like Fractals, holiday content (lots of Labyrinth stuff lately), map exploration, etc.

Also, we have active forums with social activities such as our weekly Riddle Me This contest (GW2-themed riddles) and major prize-winning opportunities with holiday stuff. Like right now, our Social Officer, Kaz, is hosting a Pumpkin Carving Contest (IRL pumpkins) with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes of 120, 95, and 70 gold, respectively. And there’s a Halloween Costume Contest (in-game costumes for your character) with 2 prizes of 100 gold each. So there are lots of ways to get involved and have fun with the guild. ^^

Anyway, if you’re interested, we have an application and a trial period. I promise we aren’t hardcore — the app is to weed out elitists and trolls, and the trial period is to make sure we’re a good fit for you and you’re a good fit for us with a no-harm, no-foul kind of thing where you can test drive us. =) If you register on our forums, you get read-access to our GW2 section, so you can scope out how we treat each other, check out our Weekly Scheduled Events thread, and get a general vibe for our community. How are you liking ele? It was my first class I tried, and I still really like it, although I mostly play my engi now.

It sounds like you’d like my guild, Ember Solace. We’re on Tarnished Coast, and pretty much all of our members are 20 or older. I think our oldest member is in his early 50s, and most of us are in mid-twenties to mid-thirties.

We have Officers in charge of Guidance (helping new players acclimate to the game and the guild), PvE, PvP (WvW and s/tPvP), and Social (trivia, costume contests, riddles, etc.). We’re super friendly, and we’ve built a really great community together filled with people who genuinely care about each other.

We do have specific events that tend to happen on certain nights a week, although we also do a lot of spontaneous stuff. Here’s the set events:

Monday
- Mini PvP Tournament (guildies go against each other for gold prizes in our private PvP Arena)

Tuesday
- #TacoTuesday, where we fight Tequatl

Wednesday
- Beginner Fractals (Tier 1-9, no Agony Resist required, any level welcome)

Friday
- Social Event (usually trivia, sometimes hide and seek or other things)
- WvW Havoc Squad (all levels welcome; great time to level alts)

Saturday
- Guild Missions (Bounty, Rush, Challenge, Puzzle)
- SASS: Saturday Arena Super Smackdown (team PvP where we queue against non-guildies)

Other stuff changes each week, such as karka farming, jumping puzzles, map exploration, explorable dungeon runs (we’ve got a group doing Arah p.4 right now), music trivia, etc. xD Plus, any guild member can put an event on the calendar or request an Officer or Assistant to host an event.

If you’d like to kind of scope us out, you can register on our forums to get read-access to our GW2 sections, so you can see our Calendar & Events, screenshot threads, Social Corner, etc. Then you can decide if you want to apply. I know an application sounds weird with a casual guild, but it has nothing to do with level or gear; it’s all about weeding out trolls to keep our environment friendly. ^^ And of course, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Proposal Functionality

1. Making Guild Halls upgradeable is in line with the current design of the game, as GW2 encourages progression goals.

2. GW2 has rich lore and an emphasis on personal choice as you create your character. It seems in line with this to encourage guild choice in matters like NPCs in Guild Halls.

3. GW2 would need to implement decorations for this to work, but it could go hand in hand with crafting. Maybe certain decoration or design packs end up being recipes that are awarded at completion of the content.

4. Since Personal Story Quests are already implemented, and Guild Missions are already implemented, it seems like it would be in line with current design to add Guild Story Quests. In the Personal Story Quest, your character is just starting out and isn’t well-known, but by the end, you’re slaying Zhaitan. The Guild Story Quests wouldn’t have to involve any coding or design mechanics that aren’t already implemented.

Associated Risks

1. If building a Guild Hall takes materials, and then you upgrade the Guild Hall, what if you want to down-grade it to the previous version? How would the adding-on process work, and who gets to decide? The guild leader? If you decide to start all over in making a Guild Hall, can you “salvage” it like you can when you craft gear, and if so, what would you get?

2. I can’t see many problems with this. The design team would just need to make several different NPCs for each role (Black Lion Trader, banker, vendor, etc.) and maybe create “packs,” like a charr-only pack, or a randomized pack. Maybe with the option to trade packs later in case you get NPCs you don’t like, or you change your mind and decide that your charr-only guild wants human NPCs so you can harass them all the time?

3. Some guilds will probably complain that some decorative content is only available through certain paths. But that’s not really anything new. A bigger question is: if these are awarded as recipes to craft items, who will be awarded the recipe? Will it drop for everyone in the group? It would have to be account-bound, otherwise it defeats the whole point because guilds would just buy them off the Trading Post. But what if it drops for someone who doesn’t have that craft discipline leveled?

4. Will the Guild Story Quests be time gated like the current Living Story? How many people will you need in your guild to complete them? Will they be a type of Guild Mission? Will you be able to replay them? Will they scale with how many people you have in your guild, so that the experience will be as challenging for a 500-person guild as it would be for a 15-person guild?

Proposal Overview

I have a few different ideas:

1. Make Guild Halls expandable, so you can build on them and upgrade them.

2. Allow guilds to pick a “pack” of NPCs, so that all-charr guilds, for example, could pick charr NPCs for their Guild Hall. This also benefits the RP community.

3. Unlock unique, themed decoration packs by completing all-guild runs of each dungeon. For example, if you completed Story Mode and all 3 Explorable Modes of Citadel of Flame, with an all-guild party, you unlock a CoF-themed decoration pack for your Guild Hall. Similarly, decoration packs could be awarded for WvW and s/tPvP.

4. Guild Story Quests. This would work like Personal Story Quests, except with your guild. Your guild gets to help out with various problems, maybe even up to fighting an Elder Dragon. It’d be like a new type of Guild Mission. Rewards for these Guild Story Quests would be things for the Guild Hall (maybe even needing to complete the first couple quests in the series to unlock Guild Halls at all), such as extra rooms, decorations, even secret passages.

Goal of Proposal

1. Guild Halls will get boring if they are a one-time creation and stay the same forever. Making them expandable lessens this.

2. GW2 has great lore. It really wouldn’t be right to force a patriotic, all-charr guild into having human NPCs in their Guild Hall. (Might not be safe for the NPCs, either.) Allowing guilds to pick their NPCs (from a pre-created pack) gives more choice and preserves RP norms and the game’s own lore.

3. Running dungeons/WvW/PvP to unlock decoration packs encourages guilds to try content they may normally avoid or re-play content they haven’t tried in awhile. (Much like the “complete Story Mode to unlock gear tracks in PvP” that was recently implemented.) Plus, think of how cool it would be to have a Guild Hall styled after Honor of the Waves?

4. If Guild Halls are a one-time thing, they could get boring. But if your guild can go through Guild Story Quests to level up the Guild Hall, unlock new designs/decorations, etc., it keeps things more interesting and even lays the foundation for extra quests like the personal Living Story content. Plus, those Guild Story Quests can involve things like obtaining your NPCs (maybe in a quest you meet a Black Lion Trader who ends up agreeing to be on your payroll in your Guild Hall).

GW2 has something called the megaserver system, which means that if you’re on a server of the same region (e.g., North America), you can still do everything except World vs. World with your guild. That means that if you’re on an North American server (like Fort Aspenwood or Tarnished Coast), you can still be in a guild that’s based on another North American server, and it won’t cause any problems. You can party up with people, use guild chat together, do dungeons, and more. The only thing you can’t do is the World vs. World activity, which is open world PvP. But if you don’t care about that, you could join a Tarnished Coast RP guild today and get playing with them immediately. You don’t ever have to transfer.

Hiya, Sev! I’m Aidyn. ^^ The game is definitely more fun with other people (and other people you’ve actually talked to, not just random invites).

From the sound of it, I think you’d enjoy my guild, Ember Solace. We’ve got 60 people in the guild, with about 30-45 logging in each day. (There’s 13 on right now, with one group in Fractals and others talking in guild chat/TeamSpeak.) We’re casual but 100% rep (outside of bank alts), and we’re on Tarnished Coast, too.

Knowing each member personally is really important to me. People aren’t just a name on a screen — I know who has finals going on, who just moved across the country to start law school (omg Kannar, good luck, lol), who is hoping to find a new job, whose cat is helping foster a kitten, etc. We’re really here for each other.

As for how viable small guilds are, we do Guild Missions on Saturdays with about 15-18 members, without trouble. And Veronica, one of our Newbie Assistants, hosts a #tacotuesday to go after Tequatl every Tuesday. Lolo, our Newbie Officer, hosts Map Completion events, among other things. Our PvE Officer, Ben, does dungeon runs, and his PvE Assistant, Petra, specializes in high-tier Fractals and has put together a WvW Havoc Squad that runs on Friday nights. I lead the Guild Missions and also our Saturday Arena Super Smackdown (SASS), which is our team PvP (sPvP in teams), and we have a great time wrecking it. =) Plus, our Social Officer, Kaz, and her Assistant, Moon, do frequent giveaways, raffles, and fun events like Trivia Nights.

At the moment, we don’t have an official RP, but we’ve got an RP section on the forums where people can post character backstories and participate in a casual forum RP.

If you register on our guild forums, you can get read-access to our GW2 sections, including our Calendar & Events sub-forum, which lists all of the events we have schedule in a week (plus an archive of past events). It’ll give you a feel for our activity level and the kinds of things we do. (I should also mention that we just got a new PvE Officer, Ben, who will be running regular dungeon nights for scheduled dungeons, especially to help people get Dungeon Master.)

We’re on TC, too, and our main events are scheduled during EDT evenings and weekends.

Hiya, Keal! Would you be comfortable joining a guild on a different NA server? Now that the megaserver system has been introduced, the only thing you can’t do with a guild on a different server is WvW.

If so, Ember Solace might be a good fit for you. We’re a casual, social guild that does a bit of everything: mostly PvE but also havoc squads in WvW and PvP (team and mini-tourneys in our personal arena).

We use TS3 and it’s active every day with people chatting and using it for communication during events.

Hiya, Greg and Keysha! I can definitely relate to the frustration of needing help with something only to get crickets in guild chat (or worse, someone who acts like they’re being forced into the misery of actually having to help you).

I would suggest my guild, but I know you said you don’t want a 100% rep guild because you already have a guild that you use for things like dungeons. Would you consider leaving that guild if the guild you joined offered both help with things like unlocking traits and regular dungeons?

We’re 100% rep, but we offer a variety of activities and a real spirit of care for each other (including help with in-game goals) along with regular dungeons, Fractals, tPvP, etc.

If not, that’s understandable. I know you may have made friends in the guild and you might not want to leave. I wish you both the best of luck in your search. =)

Heya, Membrandt. I’ve heard some people from IoJ say that they left because of lack of activity, but then others have said there is plenty of activity. It seems to be subjective. If you’re okay considering a guild outside of IoJ (the megaservers help with everything except WvW), my guild, Ember Solace, does Living Story stuff (among other things) and we’re recruiting. (We’re on Tarnished Coast.)

We’re laid-back and friendly, and we do lots of PvE with some PvP (we’re doing Friday Night Fights — team PvP — right now ). If we sound interesting, please check out our forums.
