In PvP the armor you buy is not usable in any other environment other than PvP. Also its limited in that infusions , can’t be added to any armor,weapon or accessorys.Allowing ascended gear and weapons to be openly purchased in WvW would make the specialized system of crafting and the collection of materials completely pointless game wide, destroying an important aspect of the game. By presetting armor and weapon limits exclusive to WvW like that in PvP would destroy the vibrancy and variety currently available in WvW.The game would become stagnant .Even if they did have separate WvW armor and weapons would be a programmers nightmare based on the current mechanics of the game.
If your expectations are instant gratification in a complex game such as Guild wars 2 then maybe Tic-Tac-Toe is more your speed.

The current meta versus a Thief (if such a concept exists) is certainly not to spend 4 seconds massaging the ground to lay a trap that doesn’t really guarantee much other than seeing the Thief fly away with shortbow anyway. It’s far easier to reveal a Thief by just being an Engineer/Guardian/Revenant.

Actually setting a stealth trap can be amazingly effective. I have set them while a stealthed thief engaged me and started his attacks only to be revealed when it finished.

I am still trying to understand what they think i was doing on my knees for those seconds.

I think people have just gotten used to seeing you on your knees

An additional thought on this. As a BG player, I also feel that we’ve lost a tremendous amount of control over our destiny. We’ve spent years creating a community. Whether it’s for better or worse, it is ours. We, as a collective, have been in control over our destiny, whether we push hard, or play casual. Trying to fill our gaps in coverage, trying to police ourselves with our behavior. Trying to get newer players in the loop, get them better, train them. What have you.

But with this 211 scoring system, we are no longer in control over our own destiny. If we win, it was because we had the co-operation of the 3rd place server. It was not due to our own efforts, and, for me, this feels like it’s cheating us, and also cheating the 3rd place server, as they will receive zero reward from this co-operation.

In the coming weeks, if Maguma looses their link, then maybe BG is the dominant server again in T1. These same issues will affect them and whover we’re matched with as well.

Of course, this is somewhat unique to the T1 servers, but it’s still noteworthy.

Translation: BG can no longer focus the third place server during their dead time zones for an easy win, please open BG.

Stealth Traps

A few ideas to make this less of a bad deal for everyone is;

make stealth trap visible.

make reveal a real condition to be cleansed.

make the stealth trap a build site that requires 30 supply to complete, thereby allowing you to notice it being built & requiring coordination to deploy.

Why don’t you just ask them to plant a big fat [STOP] sign where the trap is, much simpler.

There wouldn’t be a need for stealth traps if stealth wasn’t so broken in design.

I kinda feel like seeing someone stop mid fight to hammer the ground for 4 seconds is basically a stop sign already lol

No. I do not like that part of it. That is cheating and should not be in the game or tolerated. I am taking about for open field fights. It makes it much more fun with all the cool choke points, and other attributes that come with a large map.

My favorite part of open field fights in the dbl is when the other player jumps off a cliff to avoid a 1v1 and doesn’t take any damage because of a lame pve gimmick, or when random barriers pop up in front of me and I’m constantly crippled so I can’t chase someone down…..

Yeah I really don’t understand Anet’s obsession with trying to push players into the other game modes. Any time I try and force myself to gear grind in pve/pvp I end up logging off for weeks at a time because the game stops being fun and if I’m not having fun I have no reason to waste my time or money on the game.

The 3-2-1 point system was good and gave us some of the closest matches, including one where all servers were tied with one tick to go.

And a lot of fighting for the second place, some so close that the website got the final placement wrong.

Don’t artificially turn the two trailing servers against the leading one. The current matchups already show that the idea doesn’t work. The dominant servers win by an even bigger margin and the trailing servers might as well not show up at all. It doesn’t make any sense. Plus, you already got a similar system in place with the server links.

The 3-2-1 point system works and was a good step in the right direction. The next step should be trying to even out the server populations, because in the end that’s what contributes most to even matchups.

  • Give players extra rewards if their server does well with fewer players (more points relative to player numbers).
  • Make transfers from high population to low population servers cheaper.

So because out of 4 years worth of matches you were able to find a few weeks with scores closer than the current match you are saying the system doesn’t work!?

Are you really going to ignore the countless other examples of completely lopsided matches?

The only problem I see is that smaller servers used to have some semblance of a force to defend their stuff even if they can’t win that timezone. Now there’s very little to no point to doing this since you won’t win anyway.

The only time worth showing up is the timezone you know you can push for a win, might be NA prime for some, might be OCX for SoS etc.

This is all from the PPT perspective, guilds that look for fights don’t care about this stuff anyway.

The guilds that care about PPT and “winning” WvW will eventually realize that it’s still important to defend their stuff and bust the enemy upgrades to have a better chance of winning in their stronger time zones.

They don’t allow it. They provided a “safe space” to spawn in where enemies can’t hurt you and gave you multiple exits from your safe space and even multiple maps to choose from.

If you choose to run straight into a group of players sitting outside 1 exit on 1 map then that’s your choice. If you do decide to make this choice and you repeatedly die your time would be better spent learning how to fight instead of crying on the forums.

lets talk about skill, or should i say. what little skill some people have when they claim to have. since you guys like going on the tangent of me being bad player. my skill has very little to do with anything, i never said i was good.

reading an opponents class skill, and forcing them to waste it is very much a part any pvp or wvw, its a very important and rewarding skill to learn.

so if i can get this right. you guys, who accuse me of not being skilled or being salty. you guys cant be skilled players. if you purposely waste their abilties, go ooc and to go back in. you guys must be really bad players. because you guys should be able to do all of this in combat. if you have to abuse mechanics in a way its not mean’t to be used. what does that say about your so called skill and legit strategy?

if my suggested change says anything. if the change is implemented. it makes the more skilled players rewarded for being in combat. and it makes the playing field more equal for everyone else

If are making you waste cooldowns, winning the fight, and making you cry on the forums, it sounds like their strategy is working just fine.

If you haven’t noticed, this game isn’t balanced around 1v1 fights. In SPvP where you have a point to fight over you have classes that can stand and hold the point vs x players, and other classes that use their mobility to quickly move across the map to decap and +1.

In WvW roaming there aren’t points to fight over so these classes use their mobility for hit and run attacks. Saying it’s unfair for them to use what is built into their class is the same as complaining about people blocking too much.

Hopeful this scoring will create more match variety. Not too many people still care about scoring and tiers in the 20hours they don’t play. we just want to see what other guilds are out there to fight in our respective raid times.

So far being in t4 isn’t bad as there is rotation of different servers in and out. stagnation and match fixing causes attrition.

It won’t create more variety, at least not for T2. T2 at this moment in time always has 2 servers that are T2 in population and coverage, and 1 server that is T1 in population and coverage. 1 of the T2 servers rotates out with one of the T2.5 servers every couple of weeks, smashes T3 and bumps back to T2. The T1 server smashes all of T2 because of all the off-hours coverage and server blobs they have. Then the T1 server goes back to T1, knocking another T1 server down to T2 to do the same thing over again.

That is a problem of population and server transfer fees/limitations, not of scoring.

With this new system, T1 servers will absolutely dominate, accumulating a massive amount of points during periods of low coverage.

Let’s make an example.

Skirmish 1/PeakTime:

Server 1(T2 server+oceanic):1
Server 2(T2 server+sporadic coverage):1
Server 3 (T1 server+coverage during most timezones):2

Skirmish 2/WindingDown, Server 1 starts logging on and back-capping. Get the same score as Server 2.

Server 1:2
Server 2: 2
Server 3: 4

Skirmish 3/Server 1 has the coverage for this skirmish and flips everything.

Server 1: 4
Server 2: 3
Server 3: 5

Skirmish 4/Servers 2 and 3 have ppt heroes log on before work:

Server 1: 5
Server 2: 4
Server 3: 7

Skirmish 5/Server 3 has top coverage with little resistance, and rides the ppt heroes train.

Server 1: 6
Server 2: 5
Server 3: 9

Repeat every day for a week, with some changes between Servers 1 and 2.

So what we see here is teams and players that work hard to retake their BL, only to get 2nd place, are awarded the same amount of points as the people who aren’t even there.

Maybe in T4 they don’t care about scoring, but scoring is very much a factor to consider when you’re fighting to stay in T2 against T1 servers where you can actually get some fights that aren’t steamroll easy.

It won’t change the overall outcome of the week but it might make the week more fun.
Both the T2 servers were fighting for second place by trying to keep each other down, now you actually have to try and win the Skirmish. This makes TC the target and causes them to split their force into more manageable numbers so they don’t just steam roll everything while you back cap around them.

You won’t win the coverage war but the quality of the fights during peak hours might improve.

You should not bias my OP on the fact that I’m from BG. We’re used to 2v1s. It’s just part of being on this server. I’m solely thinking about the health of the game.

Anet please reopen BG for transfers. They desperately need more people on the off chance that there are still enough players left in the game that care enough about the score to focus them.

High mobile classes that can enter and leave combat is a very abusive mechanic for roamer. i know this topic isnt something new. but how its abused makes other classes like druids and thieves and warriors significantly better than the rest. is not so much the instant full health that bothers me. its the classes abusing the cooldowns

so when a player engages a fight with a theif, and successfully lands their elite skill or a skill with a significantly high cooldown. that theif can blink away and use high mobility to leave combat. re enter combat with full health. making that skill wasted. even though you played correctly as intended.

my only suggestion is whenever a player leaves combat. they dont regen their health instantly to full. they either must find a safe spot to use their heals or regen, heal on the go

Why is it fair that some classes can negate all physical damage while waiting out their cool downs? Why do some classes have passive traits that punish perfect burst or Cc? Those aren’t fair why should they be rewarded for failing to properly dodge an attack/Cc while at the same time CC’ing the attacker without the press of a button? At least disengaging and Re-engaging is an actual strategy and not passive gameplay. It’s called thinking strategically and wanting to win you use the classes/builds advantages to secure a victory.

And if they are out of combat so are you….. not simple to grasp you will only die if you wast CDs trying to chase them.

Oh I see now you are a Necro main…… hence the salt on mobility classes, yet has some of the most passive gameplay on certain builds in game to date.

The Most Frustrating WvW Dailies

I’d go a step further and nominate objective defender. Revert it back to where a player just needs to be in the objective when the timer expires to get credit for a daily AND experience for defense. You may say nonsense, but think about Bay, Hills and Garri. When checking these objectives throughly, which often only includes 1 or 2 people checking swords, one can spend a good minute checking walls, gates, hide holes, water, inner and outer only to be kittened when the timer expires because they didn’t kill anyone. Players should be rewarded for checking taps!

Yeah that is without a doubt my least favorite.
I can 1v3 in a camp or in front of a tower that they are setting up siege at, win the fight/drive them off and get nothing. I can also run into a tower that is being attacked, throw a little supply into the wall and WP away to let it flip and get full participation.

It’s not a hard one to finish but it is just stupid.

stealth is a defensive mechanic and to get negated for a duration by an external item feels wrong =/

Why don’t we have invulnerability disruptors or blink disruptors or block disruptors as well?
All takes time to lay the trap, all takes supply, all hard to use in the heat of combat.

Because invulnerability, blinks, and blocks don’t have 100% uptime….

No one is dropping a stealth disruptor in the middle of an intense 1v1. People use them against perma stealth trolls, groups of thieves hanging out in specific locations (like outside of enemy spawn) to gank solo players, thieves that repeatedly run to reset the fight, etc.

The cast time is something like 4 seconds long, if you are fighting a fair fight and someone gives you 4 seconds of free hits on them then the fight should be over anyway.

Conquest and WvW pvp builds, difference?

The WvW builds on metabattle are more for large scale zerg fights. For small scale/roaming builds you can use the conquest stuff as a guide but most of them will need adjustments.
WvW has a better variety of runes and stat choices, mobility and stealth are also much more important.

Druids are highly mobile, and are the easiest for capping camps/towers because you can use pets to tank. Strong in 1v1 due to good sustain and decent access to stealth but they lack real burst damage so against a solid player the fight won’t end until someone kittens up or other players jump in.

War and Mes are probably the strongest 1v1 fighters at the moment but War is much easier to play, very forgiving for bad players.

Mes is great because you can be terrible at fighting but be a huge help to your server by hiding inside keeps that they failed to take and portaling people in once things cool down.

Thief is the best for escaping zergs. Best mobility, 100% stealth uptime if you build for it. Downside is (depending on build) it has a lot of soft counters in 1v1 fights so if you already aren’t good at fighting you will have a hard time.

Downed players have their hp tripled. That ele probably had 40k+ health when he went over the side, so taking 20k fall damage wouldn’t kill him but it would kill you.

Remorseless wouldn’t be terrible if you swap to a tiger for smaller fights.
It’s f2 attack packs a pretty decent punch with that +25% opening strike damage. Even better when sic em is off cooldown.

Does anyone else remember how kittening annoying it was when they added those living story pve mobs to wvw?

I don’t want to see them pumping out wvw maps every 3 months, if they did that we’d end up with another dbl disaster.
I want them to create a map and let gold rank+ players be involved throughout the process. I want them to actually listen to player feedback from roamers as well as zerglings.

Please please please stop giving tomes of knowledge in WvW. Please give us something more useful from the reward tracks and dailies. Siege maybe? Yes I know you can make siege from spirit shards and get spirit shards from tones, but that is extra work I’d like to pass on.

What we can get is useless for most of us. Tomes, Spirit Shards, even a plethora of Obsidian Shards BUT…

What we can not get – LAURELS – almost impossible to get how about a way to convert such an imbalance of false loot to things that are useful like Laurels?

Please.

Don’t we get like 50+ per month just from logging in? And since they never updated the vendor to sell HoT trinkets those laurels are pretty much only good for buying crafting mats to turn into gold.

Letting you buy laurels with tomes would be pretty rough on the economy.

Pretty sure Focus pull require line of sight so it would be impossible to place it behind the wall. It can however be placed on the front and pull a player toward the front ledge since it’s an AoE pull.

Mesmers need Line of sight to summon clones or phatasms. Again, another wrong assumption of yours. The only way a mesmer can have clones or phantasms on top of wall is if one defender show his face at the edge of the wall allowing the mesmer to cast the phantasm, which will follow the player until destroyed or shattered. As for ranger pets, it’s been at least 3 years since they fixed the bug where pets would ignore the wall and go attack targets on top/behind it.

Your only real argument is the Elementalist one (ranger barrage is far too weak to even be a threat to siege) which already been pointed out so many times but nothing has been done. So I wouldn’t expect any change to it.

in this case it seems to be like the old resolution exploit that happened in the past or a camera hack because we’re talking people throwing pets and clones directly on arrow carts wich where behind a wall behind a stair if that isnt an exploit i dont know what is , and this combined with mesmer’s pull makes defending a wall impossible specially when the enemy has highest numbers

Why stop there?
Lack of commanders isn’t the only problem, sometimes there just aren’t enough players. How about we just have entire npc zergs running around PvD’ing, that way we don’t even have to play at all!
If we feel like our npc zerg isn’t doing well enough we can just pull a BG and complain on the forums until anet gives us more npc’s to dominate the other npc’s.

I think we just fixed the population balance problem!

Doubt he’d stick around anyway. Mag’s always got people playing but there is rarely a tag up outside of prime time. The server is full of people running around doing kitten to amuse themselves until someone calls out where the action is and then they all converge.

@Op, you’d probably be happier on JQ. I’ve never seen a server more reliant on pug commanders.

Of course if you only play NA prime you will be happy on pretty much any server.

The point is to try and get something more inline with most other classes. 60 sec is to long of a CD, 25-30 sec is what you guys should be pushing for, and there is no reason why it couldn’t be an F2 ability on the pet, god knows there is a plethora of useless pets in the game.

You also have a stab on Signet of the Wild but again it’s a 60 sec CD, an ability like Stability should never be on a 60 sec CD because at that point the skill becomes useless and will always lose out to something more efficient.

Both of which are personal stabs (pet included), they need more stuff that benefits the grp/raid/squad imo.

You forgot the biggest problem with both of those stabs, neither is instant cast.
Having a 1 sec cast time on a stability skill is moronic.

actually I think a 600 radius, insta cast, 25sec cd, 3stack aoe stability to 5 allies on a F2 pet skill is very reasonable for one of the jellyfish.

Is BG still open for transfers?

No, but if you speak to someone on BG they will get with one of the devs and you can be transferred even though the server is locked, just be sure to say please and thank you.

If that doesn’t work, you can always post a thread with the title “Why can’t I play with my friends” or something like it every week until it finally opens.

P.S. Of course someone from JQ will soon reply saying how great their server is.

Sadly this is so accurate that I just don’t know how to feel about it anymore.

It would create more balanced match up, but sadly it’s missing a very important part : group identity.

You can’t build your group identity when it’s destroyed every 2 months and you are placed with completely new players. And, without group identity, caring is impossible.

The reason WvW was so awesome is that people cared about it. Players would go out of their way to try and improve their servers. Why would you want people to care right now when they don’t feel like they belong in the group they are placed in? They don’t of course because it doesn’t make sense.

Sure, linking brought more activity, opponent variety and balanced? match up, but WvW lost its soul in the process. We had a clear goal in the past : make our server #1 and stay there. It didn’t matter that it was a completely ridiculous goal because at least we had one. What exactly do you want people to fight for right now when servers don’t even have an identity because of the linking?

It’s hopeless…

A short introduction:

I’m a 33 year man (screw this multi-gender bullkitten)…

The deal with gear is ascended is the highest stats, legendary is equal to ascended but lets you swap the stats at will.

Metabattle isn’t a bad place to start. It gives you a good base build and then you can tweak it until you find something that works for you.

Other than that just keep your eye on the forum, you’ll see plenty of builds pop up. Use the build editor or PvP lobby to experiment. And there really isn’t a wrong build for 95% of PvE so don’t stress.

Is it easier to acquire legends or ascended? I do not have the time, unfortunately, to grind & grind & grind. So I need to make the most out of time played.

They are both a grind. Ascended is easier to get because you can just level up crafting but it’s expensive. Honestly you can get by fine with exotics. You’ll be able to get ascended accessories easily enough from laurels (log in rewards), guild missions, or a few other ways. The newer stats can be acquired through raids or the new living story map by turning in blood rubies to a vendor.
If you do decide to craft ascended gear (or get some from drops) look up the mystic forge recipe for converting stats, that way you can craft cheap stuff and convert it to better gear.

Got an ascended piece from PvP.. Wrong stats though… But still…
Looked up the living story: 200gems per chapter.. yeah right, not going to pay that…

I must say that the druid spec works well in PvP.. If the spike damage isn’t to high or without constant stuns or whatever I can survive and stand my on 2vs1 even.. It’s fun to keep them busy trying to take a point, wasting time on me in stead of actually scoring points, hehe…
Almost cleared the Citadel of Flames track in 1 evening (with the use of XP boosters).. Nice rewards…

I really don’t keep up with this games pve (so maybe someone else can chime in) but I’m pretty sure it’s living story 3 that lets you unlock the track you need and I thought that was the current one.
You should only have to pay for the older living story stuff and that’s not required to do the current one.

If you can access the living story you might want to put a movie on TV or something because the first couple missions involves standing around watching them talk (no skipable cut scene). I literally fell asleep.

No changes needed. Small groups should not be able to take upgraded structures.

Solo players should be able to take upgraded structures on their own if the defending side is too busy not taking care about scouting/defending.

Watchtower hardly changes that though, with the time it takes a single person to take a T3 tower (or more ambitously, a keep), someone will always notice it. If no one comes during those 30 odd minutes you will spend working on it, the red dot wouldnt matter as there is no enemy in the border lol.

When I solo roam I am constantly tapping everything, and most other roamers do as well (hell most do it unintentionally now since they changed how swords are triggered).

Players get used to seeing the white swords and don’t rush to check them out right away. There were countless times I wasn’t discovered until I was already killing the lord and in those situations I usually only had to fight a couple people to get the cap because they weren’t going to send a huge group to investigate.

With the Watchtower there isn’t 1 or 2 defenders coming to see if it’s a tap or not, the defenders know exactly how many are hitting the structure and will always bring overwhelming odds if they can.
