@JustTrogdor, if they are going to make a sudden change in policy then they better be transparent. And if I think it is reasonable then let me click on that “agree” button on their EULA again. Seems like you’re someone who just accept things thrown at you blindly.
It’s right here:

11. A. i.
You understand that You have no fundamental right whatsoever to use the Game, and that You understand that NCSOFT may in its sole and absolute discretion terminate Your ability to access or use the Game for any reason or for no reason whatsoever;
You agreed. So if you get kicked for AFK you can’t complain, like it or not.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
GMs kicking people from events for standing AFK for extended periods of time is fine with me. That is part of their job to look out for the best interest of those that are actively playing. If you ask me we need more GMs during events just to do such things. They would come in handy during activities like Crab Toss and Keg Brawl where people just stand around waiting to get their daily activity credit. I wish they would have been doing this during the early times of Teq when people were AFKing just for achievements.
I still find it funny that there are a few people here that have spent so much effort arguing for the rights for people to stand running into a corner just to get rewards. Basically what I am reading from some people is, “Down with the man! You have no right to kick me!” Yes, yes they do and it seems they are.
My guess is some of you don’t even AFK or even spend much time in LA but as soon as you see “Anet Dev kicking AFKers,” you go into rage mode just for the sake of arguing, “Don’t tell me how to play! Down with ANET!”
That’s the last I have to say in regard to this issue, rage on.
You have to get them from unique piles to get the achievement. In other words there are what, I think 40 of them in the map. You have to get one from each until you complete the achievement. So for example you can’t loot the same 5 over and over to get the achievement.
If it’s an emergency would you really go back to your game to get your character out of LA? -_- Helping the community = forcing you to play a certain way? What if I just like going into LA for extra profit while playing the TP?
Good grief. Keep trying to defend AFK leeching all you want. Okay, yeah if your house is on fire then I guess it is okay to AFK. LOL
No one is forcing you to play a certain way, but if you take part in the LA event where a significant part requires actually participating then you should be willing to participate in one way or another. Unless you house catches fire. HAHA
Nothing in the mechanics require me to do anything to get the citizen supply bags. How does one measure contribution? I’m also playing the game, just not how you want me to. You want to penalize people because they’re getting rewards just for standing idly while chatting or for playing the TP or heck, have their houses on fire instead of saving citizens? Then they shouldn’t have designed it that way in the first place.
If you want to play the TP then be considerate of your other players an do it outside the event. Join a dungeon group and start playing the TP and see where that gets you. Go do Teq and tell everyone just before it starts you will be playing the TP and just chatting while it goes on. I’m sure you will make friends. LOL
Defend AFKers all you want. If I see you perma-afking in LA I’m going to report you. Bottom line. Participate in the event one way or another be it rescuing, killing mobs, exploring, or what not. Stand AFK for the entire time and I hope you get suspended.

Would you go do Wurm or Teq and then just stand there?
That’s the thing, why are they doing that? How do they know that person isn’t afk because of something important? That sounds very dictatorial.
Perhaps they are watching people AFK for long periods of time using things like auto-cast on their heal skill or auto-run into a wall to avoid kick timer. It is one thing to AFK for several minutes to use the bathroom, take a quick call or what not. It is another thing to auto-run at the gate during the pre-event to make sure you get in right away and then stand at the entrance for 20+ minutes. If someone has to be AFK for longer than say 15 minutes maybe they should exit and give someone else their spot.
Why should anyone give up his/her spot in an event just because he needs to do something important IRL for more than 15 minutes? That’s what overflows are for in the first place. He’s not denying anyone their right to participate in the game by keeping his spot. It’s not like people who can’t get in main can’t play the event entirely.
It’s called being considerate of other players. Something a lot of people in this game and most MMOs seem to lack. If something is so important that they cannot actively participate in an event for an extended period of time they should go take care of that important business and let someone else play for the rewards. If you are not contributing during the event then you are just taking up space. Say, you afk for 18 minutes and the rescue mission for 1200 is a close call. That is 18 minutes you are not helping and taking a spot from someone that might be willing to do rescues. Anyway I just threw 15 minutes out there as it is a significant part of the LA event time frame.
What if it was an emergency? It’s not like we can determine the intent of everyone who goes into the event either. If it’s solely on contribution, then people who run the event for heirlooms and ignores citizens altogether are just as accountable. Or that person who follows people as a quaggan.
That’s why they shouldn’t have designed the event this way. If they want to limit player accessibility to event rewards based on their participation then they should’ve just implemented individual citizen counters instead.
If it is an emergency then playing a game should be the least of your worries. This event is designed well. It requires people to cooperate for maximum rewards and for the most part at this point in the event most people do. You can try defend extended AFK all you want but people that do so are not helping the community and not really playing. They are just trying to cash in on everyone else’s group effort. If the rumors of people getting kicked for extended AFK are true I give Anet a thumbs up.
People playing for heirlooms are limited as well as there are a limited amount you can get per day. That washes them out as well after a small amount of time.
Having an individual citizen counter would not work either because it would become a race for resources due to the limited amount of citizens at a time. Plus rezzing a citizen does not guarantee they make it out as they can be killed on the way out. Many people help by protecting them as they exit. Many do both.

You make it sound like afking is a crime lol. Afk timer is around 60min so all is fair.
Well there are some rumors that people have been getting suspended for prolonged AFK in LA. Of course none of that has been confirmed. It has just come up in a thread or two with no confirmation from Anet. If it is true then perhaps it is a “crime”. I’m not really certain why you feel the need to defend such behavior. It really isn’t conducive to the community. But, hey, if that is how you like to ‘play’ at least we know where you stand.
I’m all for it as long as I’m not pushed into an overflow because 30 people are standing around a lake fishing. See the thing with other resources is that they require you to be mobile to get them and are limited. If I want to do a world boss event and get pushed into overflow because people think this is now a fishing game I’m not going to like it very much.
I don’t think most people have a problem if someone AFKs for a few minutes to take a bathroom break, take a phone call or whatever comes up. It’s the people that auto run into the gate during the pre-event to make sure they get in right away and then stand at the entrance AFK for the entire time that people don’t care for. They are taking a spot from someone that wants to play the event just so they can get free loot.
The whole “AFKers get rewards” will likely be classified as an “exploit” soon.
Beware. Account bans incoming.
It may already be happening although it is hard to confirm based on this. Thought it was interesting though.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Suspended-Kicked-for-no-reason/
I have just been suspended and was given no reason for it. I went afk to eat while i was in the LA instance and I came back to see i got kicked and reason was another client. I thought i d/ced so i logged back in and then couple minutes later same reason i got kicked. I relogged back in then my game got booted and I got suspended for 3 days with no reason given. I submitted a ticket and wanted to know if anyone else had this problem.
I can’t say I have a problem with suspensions for such behavior. AFKers in the new LA take spots from people that genuinely want to play the event with maximum effort. Just a bit ago I was leading a rescue team and there was a player AFK with a commander tag by the entrance the entire time. No wonder some people rage about commander tags so much. At least his being there AFK wasn’t causing people to follow his tag I suppose.
I’ve been mentioning in the last minute of the event when everyone is ready to evacuate that suspensions might be happening for AFKing. Note: I said might but I feel it is a good idea to spread the word to help minimize such behavior.

While I wouldn’t run screaming through my neighborhood (games are not worth such effort) if they added mounts and or open world dueling I’d be done with the game.
Email from gw2 about survey and get 400 gems
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892
While I understand the nature of such surveys I do tend to agree that 400 gems is a rather sizable reward just for filling out a survey. I can see why people would feel slighted for not getting such an offer even though it was sent out to random participants.
It could be just those who have bought gems…
Or bought gems in the last 6 months…
Or perhaps the top 5,000 biggest $ spenders on gems…
I probably match all 3.
Actually it is about the EotM update from what I read. I’m sure they just sent them out at random. Random doesn’t like me in GW2.
I want a survey for gems. I’ll answer the questions honestly I promise.
I didn’t get a survey but apparently the lucky ones that did and complete it get 400 gems.
What the OP is suggesting is not needed.
What is needed is the commander symbol hanging over my toon when I have my tag turned on. That is just effin silly and needs to be removed or given the option to toggle off.
In all fairness I think both should have a toggle off option.
and I believe the lack of communication with the fanbase which had them waiting around for upto 6 hours is easily enough to dishearten those players considering a return.
Anet announced there would be a delay. I have linked it several times in this thread. Enough with the hyperbole. Did you stop to think that maybe just before they launched the patch at the usual time they found a major flaw and instead of just launching it they delayed it until they fixed it? Oh heaven forbid they do that with all those in other time zones waiting. It would be better to just launch a busted patch right?
The patch went live on the 18th Anet office operating time as promised. Just because you play in a different time zone doesn’t make you a special little snow flake. There isn’t really much else to talk about.

So much later as normal.
Oow and of what people where left half is in LA and the other half is waiting because they can’t enter LA. According to some it’s on a 1 hour timer. Not sure of thats true but it’s more waiting nonetheless.
The irony.
I’m not even sure what you are talking about. Waiting for what? Anyway it was announced that the patch would be late.

So the Feb 18th update is live. Any news on performance? I can’t test it right now.
They have been patching on the same time for over a year. You may expect them to launch on that same time..
No they haven’t.
They have never been on the same time actually.
The same general area of time, yes, but the exact same time? Nope. I don’t even think two patches have ever been released at the exact same time. And to be fair they did tell us back during the “usual” release-time that it would be delayed.
for almost 9 years they release the big patches on exactly 12:01 PM, it’s bin like that in GW1 and has always bin even in GW2.
even with a delay, they never pass the 2 hour delay.
ether they took a break or are losing the will to push this life, shows how much their quality has dropped.

It is 2:58 PM Feb 18th in Seattle as of the time of my post.
I udnerstand why you can’t give a good estimate time about an update. But promising to blow up LA on the 18th means on the 18th and not on the 19th. you had a great change to get old players back but you blew it.
It is still the 18th in Seattle where they are based. Heaven forbid they don’t push a live update out in time for those in Europe without trying to polish things first.

I’d rather they double check things before pushing a live update as opposed to just launching it to make you happy in Europe. It is the 18th Anet time.
Hopefully a fix will come with the patch tomorrow fingers crossed
Hate having to start up bootcamp for GW2 when my work stuff are on OS XHow are the rest of y’all coping?
I’m a casual player so I’m pretty much just doing solo PvE stuff when I play. I’ve been coping with the rest of this mess by not buying gems since August (I was spending about $60 a month since I started playing). That is the best way to cast my vote for how the Mac client has been handled. Heck, I don’t even know if I can buy gems now if I wanted to without some detailed user fix I might have to do. I have not heard if the gem store bug is fixed or not.

Imagine what Marjory and Kasmeer smell like by now without showers, baths and such.
Here, peruse at your leisure.
Thanks for the link I had an LoL with what Google translate did to the page, specifically race “Charles” and profession, “Stalker”. haha See screen cap.
They are doing more than just translating text and voice overs. From what I have read they are integrating a different sort of tutorial type system, hints and other things. Apparently these things will be added to all GW2 at some point.
http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/07/19/guild-wars-2-outlines-china-release-new-rewards-in-dev-update/
Soo the new patch comes out tomorrow and OS X players are probably going to have a lot of trouble playing it? Unless the issues are fixed and will be rolled out with that patch, but I feel like someone would have said something about that already.
My guess is the fix is falling under the, “Don’t say when in case it doesn’t happen by then,” sort of silent rule I see at times with this game. That way if the Mac client is still busted tomorrow Anet can fall back on, “still working on it,” and people here can’t start complaining they were promised a fixed by a certain time. I’m not even sure if the gem store bug has been fixed yet either. Have not tried to test it for obvious reasons.
Make a L20ish alt. Do the 3 easy jump puzzles in LA, the one in Southsun Cove easily accessed from LA, the one in Queensdale (make sure you get the other chests in the puzzle), and the first one in Caledon Forest. I do this to sell for gold and get no less than 2 per cycle/day and it takes less than half an hour. Parking an alt at the end of just one JP isn’t going to do it for you.
Or maybe you could offer up some dedicated Mac users to be part of the live test group before updates go live. That might be even better.
That would be AWESOME!!! Take some of the really active members like FlamingFoxx, Kylla, JustTrogdor and give them a chance to QA the content before the release. It would be like the Mac team you’ve never had.
(In all seriousness though, I think this is a great idea)
You caught my post in the middle of edits. I have a bad habit of typing and submitting then editing LOL.
I’m a pretty casual player, just a few days a week for a few hours a time, so I don’t think I could contribute much. I have not seen Kyllaa here in several months. However, FF and I’m sure a few others here would be great candidates to be part of the test server. It would really only take a few Mac players that play on MacBooks and or iMacs to help out. It seems like it would be a logical thing to do in the future to help minimize issues like we are having now.
I am glad to see attention from Anet here again so the following will probably make me look like I’m not. However, in tune with wondering if updates are tested on Macs before they go live I’d like to offer this quote from the Mac Beta Client webpage:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/announcing-guild-wars-2-for-mac-beta/
On top of it all, ArenaNet staffers are big fans of Macs. We offer them as part of our employee laptop subsidy program, and our president Mike O’Brien is rarely seen without his Mac laptop. We’re as excited as anyone to play Guild Wars 2 on OS X.
I reference that because if you Google ‘guild wars 2 for mac’ that is the first page that comes up.
Perhaps staff could use those Macs prior to future updates to check for bugs like the one we have now and the gem store issue that I still am not sure if it has been fixed aside from user fixes. Just a thought. Oh and I bolded that part about Mike because I’d like to see if he has played GW2 on his Mac that he is almost never seen without.
Or maybe you could offer up some dedicated Mac users to be part of the live test server before updates go live. Not me because I don’t play much but I could give some recommendations for Mac players that I know would properly test things. Perhaps FlamingFoxx for example. He has been in this forum since I started here and seems to know a lot about the Mac client and seems to be highly invested in playing the game. Having some Mac customers on the test server might be a good thing to help avoid future problems.
Again, Gaile, thank you for your attention to this forum. I know this isn’t your area as you are responsible for account issues but your continued attention to Mac issues does have meaning to us.

Request for compensation in Lagging World
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892
I seriously doubt there would be a way for Anet to offer compensation to Mac customers even if they wanted to. Having a GW2 account gives access to both PC and Mac version. There would probably be no way for Anet to verify Mac only customers in an effort to compensate them for lost time. If they did advertise some sort of compensation suddenly every person that has a GW2 account would be a Mac customer.
Where do I get these transmutation stones? Thanks for all the answers so far.
I might just get it at 80 or so.
You will get transmutation stones from completing maps, sometimes from doing your daily or buy in gem store. The stones only work on items up to L79. After that you will need transmutation crystals for L80 items. They can be purchased in the gem store, sometimes (very rarely) drop from doing daily, or randomly (again rarely) from Black Lion chests.
The gem store armor skins are not unlimited use. Once applied to an armor they can only be reused again if you use transmutation stones/crystals to apply it to another set of armor. For example, say you buy the Krytan armor skins from the gem store. You can apply them to your armor pieces one time. If say later on you have a new helmet you want but want to keep the appearance of the Krytan helmet you will need to use a transmutation stone/crystal to place the appearance on the new helmet. If you apply the skin to a soulbound piece and you decide you want to use the look on an alt you will have to transmute it using stones/crystals onto a white piece which will make it account bound. Then you will have to use stones/crystals again to transmute the appearance onto the alt’s armor.
As a word of caution if you do use transmutation stones/crystals when you upgrade armor make sure you take the time to ensure you select the proper appearance of the skin you want to keep. Otherwise you will lose it and have to buy a transmutation splitter to get it back. As far as I know, if you mess up the transmutation process Anet will not correct it for you.

theres 3.5 million copies sold ive got a good number of friends from a while ago and a 7th of 3.5 mil is 500k pretty simple
So how many people are on your friends list? 200k? 300k? 400k? 500k? We need to know those numbers to validate your claims.
lol…who are you again?? pfft
this is just a suggestion, for the 1% it seems…hahah!
If you don’t know who I am then obviously you are not AWESOME. All AWESOME players with AWESOME names know me and all my alt’s AWESOME names. My names are so AWESOME they are legendary.
If you don’t get it by now I am just messing with you.
I just want to see my name and title, above my head, when i am out and about…that’s all.. .. .
Make a party, have someone target you, make a screen cap, then print it and tape it beside your monitor.
I’m just messing with you man, mostly because your all caps title. I get what you mean.

How does having a lot of friends and a 5th or 7th of them online equal 400k-600k people online at a time unless you have several hundred thousand people in your friends list?
I think I forgot to mention that the new laptop is NOT Mac. Can I still use the above mentioned download link posted by mystic5934? And thank you for the info for the two very quick responses.
Yes it doesn’t matter Mac or not. As long as you have installed the game and updates in entirety on any computer you can login and play. It only requires your account name and password. In other words, if you install the PC version on your new laptop then you can login and play by using your account name and password.
LOL
hey whiners: your tag is annoying, unnecessary, and labels you as an attention kitten. if you dont wanna look at it, theres an off button!
what a perfect change! GET OVER IT! LOL
What? The point of the tag is to be able to provide a point of direction for those interested in organizing and working as a group. For those of us that use it as intended it has nothing to do with gaining attention but for tactical purposes in both WvW and PvE. Commanders that use the tag appropriately benefit players that are looking for tactical organization. Oh, but I suppose you are just trolling given that you have to result to insults to try to make a point.

yes, but it helps to know what guild you are supporting sometimes…in and out, one or the other :P
but, maybe, I just want to see my AWESOME name above my head! hehe…the option should be there.
Well I hope you can see your AWESOME name some day then. As long as it is optional so I can opt out of seeing my own AWESOME name in my FOV I’m down with that.
P.S. My names are more AWESOME than yours. You should see my names floating above your head.
but hopefully, I got someone eye with me BIG letters :P
I’ll admit I am rather curious why it is important to see your name over your head. Don’t you know your character’s name already?
It would have to be optional. Just like the new commander tag blob in my FOV I hate, the less things in my FOV the better. I know my name. I don’t need to see it. However, if it was optional I have no problem with that.
I’ve never seen a picture of that legacy armor. Does it look cool?
It’s just a choice of the lower cost armor in the gem store. Profane, Krytan, or Primeval. Nothing mind blowing.
why do i must have all my stuff delete to get these items? we pre order the game before it even release. before we even seen the game.. shouldn’t there be a reward for dedicate player?
Did you get what you paid for when you bought the edition that you did? Did it say, “also includes all future items offered?” If you answered ‘yes’ and then ‘no’ you have your answer.
Hint, the the only answer to the last question is ‘no’.
How many hours have you gotten to play since then as opposed to people that just now bought the game? Would you be willing to give up everything you have earned since you started playing for those items now offered?
It is called a promotion. I’ve bought many real world items and a year later or so the company I bought them from offered new things to future customers for the same price.
you sound like this game gonna close soon…
What?
unlike us who get through stuff the hard ways.. still these should be given to all player who unlock collector edition..
You got what you paid for when you bought the collector edition, no? When you bought it was everything advertised for what you purchased delivered? My guess is yes or you would not even be here now. I doubt it said, “Buy now and you will get all future upgrades and offers from future editions offered.”
You didn’t answer my question. Would you be willing to give up everything you have earned over the hours you have played, your characters, your bank items, your gold and other wallet items to have the stuff offered to new customers?
sure if they restore everything i bought from gem store.. and my remain gem… i delete all my toon several times to move around sever~~
p.s. sure i play this game for years, and? this game is b2p.. they still get countless hours in the past to play..
Then maybe you contact support and tell them, “Hey I have played since launch and bought the collectors edition. I see you now offer new items with the collectors edition. Please delete everything on my account so I can have Mithril Box* Suit of Legacy Armor* 10 Experience Boosters*”
