Pretty much all the ss’s here are people zoomed in to make it look bigger.

Why does that matter? We don’t want it there to start with. I don’t recall anyone ever asking for an icon over commander’s heads. Is there a good reason why it is even there? If so tell me.

How many hours have you gotten to play since then as opposed to people that just now bought the game? Would you be willing to give up everything you have earned since you started playing for those items now offered? Meaning delete all your characters, delete everything in your bank and all your gold and other wallet items.

It is called a promotion. I’ve bought many real world items and a year later or so the company I bought them from offered new things to future customers for the same price.

My commander tag is disrupting my FOV

For a game that prides itself on beautiful graphics I am not a fan of having more stuff on my screen that distracts me from that.

I’m not a fan of your distracting tag either. Just turn it off. I haven’t bought a tag because I feel that they are annoying. Why should you be allowed to pay to disrupt my game-play and yet be immune from its effects?

This wasn’t the ideal solution (which would have been giving me a way to opt to not see your tag), but it is a bit fairer than the old system.

How is having my tag on when I’m leading a large group of people on a map tour disrupting your play? The worst that happens is you see it on your mini-map or over my head if you are near me. For me, it is over my head always on my screen. Even when you are in the same place as me you see it over my head but not everywhere you turn. That applies to WvW and PvE.

As I said, I agree that players should have the option to turn off seeing tags of commanders. I’m not a fan of having it all over my FOV when I am using my tag as it was designed. I don’t stand around in LA all day with my tag on.

Just turn it off.

I do when I’m not using it as it was intended. That doesn’t negate the fact that when I’m using it as intended I don’t need to see a big blob in my FOV. Is my tag when I am using it all over your FOV?

I haven’t bought a tag because I feel that they are annoying.

Sounds more like you have not bought a tag because you don’t understand that they are actually useful for people that know how to use them in WvW and or PvE, or you are just trolling. Trust me, I put a lot of thought in before I bought my tag. They are not cheap and I ultimately decided that not only myself but others would benefit from my having one and my using it as intended. I think a lot of people I have lead on map tours, skill point quests, and champ tours would agree that my investment was worth it. In fact, I have never profited from it but I use my tag to help others and that makes it worth it. I think most people with commander tags feel the same. It is the few people that troll with, “Hey look! My commander tag” that have skewed your perception.

I can see why this was implemented. Players would sometimes forget when their commander pin is active due to it being in the boon bar. This change, however, supports the absent-minded much more than it does those who are playing hard.

I support the icon being removed from the FOV. I have been pinned up before when I didn’t mean to, and it takes a matter of minutes for guildmates or servermates to point that out to me.

IMO a better option would have been for Anet to handle it like they do with the musical instruments. Give the players that don’t want to see the tags in the mini-map, over players heads, etc. an option to toggle it off. Instead they put a big blob over my head as to say, “Hey idiot your commander tag is on.”

The weird thing is I’ve seen a lot of threads related to commander tags and what would improve them. I don’t recall any suggestions asking for the tag to show up in the FOV of the commander. Granted I may have missed it if those threads did indeed exist, but it just seems odd from all the threads I have read about commander tags the big blob is what was added.

It’s in the middle of your screen because you are zoomed in as close as possible.
How can you command effectively with your screen like that. You should be zoomed out far enough to see an entire battlefield.

That isn’t close as possible zoom in. It’s the next closest view. Plus, the commander tag is not just for WvW. I use it a lot in PvE when I do ‘newbie’ map tours. Even zoomed out, I don’t need or want it there. I know when my tag is on. It isn’t necessary and I don’t think I can recall anyone even asking for it so I’m not even sure why they added it.

Has anyone actually equipped a precursor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I guess I didn’t know that if you equip it you can still use it to make a legendary. Now I feel like an idiot. That is how far detached I am from the whole legendary issue. Had I accidentally equipped my precursor I would have been out a lot of gold because I wouldn’t have been able to sell it. It dropped for me about 30 minutes after I leveled my first L80 and took him to a Scarlet invasion just to check it out. I suppose my luck has been used up for the next 5 years.

In a game that prides itself in a wonderful visual experience I find it disheartening that there is now a blob front and center of my screen everywhere I go when I have my tag on. I’m a big fan of minimizing unnecessary graphics in the players FOV. Please give me an option to turn it off or get rid of it. I also support the ability for all players to toggle on/off commander tags if they don’t want to see them on the mini-map and what not.

Please remove this blob over my head Anet. Thank you.

For those interested in what it looks like this is what commanders now see everywhere they turn. A big blob over their head.

Isnt a big blob over your head what you paid for in the first place?

Sort of.

He paid for the ability to use a blob over his head, that other people could see, as a tool in organizing tactical play. Not for a visual distraction from his own perception of his character.

I completely agree, but have never had the option to turn off other people’s commander tags.

I would support an option to turn the tag off for oneself when such an option is added to allow players to turn off the visibility of others’ tags as well.

I agree there should be an option for toggling them off for everyone. However, you see me with my tag say 50 units away it is by my name and doesn’t sit in the middle of your screen when you turn. Me, I have a big blob in the middle of my screen now everywhere I go. Once again, a toggle on/off for everyone would be optimal.

At least now you know what your zerglings had to put up with all the time, especially the ones that actually stacked on you.

I see your jab. The commander tag is not just useful in WvW but it is a good tool for PvE. Otherwise it would only be usable in WvW. I often organize ‘newbie’ map tours of around a dozen players or so. It helps them follow me if they get turned around and there is a difference between another player seeing it over my head by my name and a big blob front and center on my screen over my head.

I think most people with tags don’t use them just to show that they have one. I never have mine on unless I am using to guide a group. I turn it off when I’m done and never have it on in cities just to show I have it.

For a game that prides itself on beautiful graphics I am not a fan of having more stuff on my screen that distracts me from that.

I may be missing the point a little here – but I just want to make it absolutely clear that the fact that you are a Norn has no impact on your speed. All characters have the same base speed and your running speed can only be increased through skills or runes/sigils.

This is true but the Norn running animation makes them appear slow as heck. It’s just a visual thing but that is why my Norn Mesmer never made it past L10. Well that and when I took him into Trolls End jump puzzle.

See everyone is happy, and like I said in my first post, yes they would have to add this to other cultural to make it fair, but that would just be more money for them.

Nope, sorry. There was a huge public outcry for the original flamekissed to be removed. It was removed due to that and should stay that way. You can’t say “Take it away! Thanks for taking it away now give it to me.” If that set ever shows up back in game after the mess it caused it is only going to make people angry again, namely the ones it was taken away from. This has been a huge mess since day one and bringing it back for a different group of people will only make it worse. Anet needs to cut their losses here and leave it as it is now. The original skin is gone and has been replaced.

Why EoTM update is unhealthy

I don’t do WvW. I’ve tried it and don’t care for it. That said, as far as the living story achievements I spent maybe 15 total minutes actually in EotM to get the three achievements done. Only one of those forced me to take my character into hostile areas, the golem part achievement. I simply ran as fast as I could to the golem parts, hit invis just before I got there knowing it would be camped, grabbed the parts, and ran off a cliff so as to not give myself up as a kill to the campers . Done. The other one only involved talking to an NPC in the safe zone when you enter EotM. The portal one involved finding the portal in a PvE map and entering it. Done. Now I don’t ever have to go back and that’s fine with me. It really isn’t that big of deal for non-WvW. It isn’t like the jumping puzzle achievement that was in WvW during an earlier living story where it was a non-stop gank fest.

There is no solution at this point it is what it is. Anet has presented and delivered what they feel the solution is. I’ve stated that twice now. People are allowed to be unhappy with they way it turned out and they are allowed to express that even when there is no way to fix it. They can’t make the old skin available again in any fashion without making a bunch of more people unhappy. That skin should be in the same place a lot of my posts end up ‘trashcan’ Anet should just cut their losses with the way it stands now.

Can I ask a question to those who liked the old flamekissed armor??
What would you find a fair solution?

There is no good solution and that was the point of my last post. This whole thing has been a disaster from start to finish. Did Anet pick what they thought was a fair solution? I think so. However, I was not happy with their efforts in regard to the new skin. I feel like they didn’t really try to come up with a new skin that was nice in an effort to make customers who bought the original version happy. I felt like they had a good opportunity to make those of us that bought the original skin happy and they missed it. Of course there was no way everyone was going to be happy in the end but I feel like they didn’t put much effort into trying to do so. That is just my opinion.

It came down to what Anet deemed the lesser of two evils that seems to have still left a lot of customers unhappy. As I said, at this point it is a done deal and in time the whole topic will just disappear but the loss of customer trust will persist for some time. There isn’t anything else Anet can do about it at this point to make it right.

This game has become like the movie Snakes on a Plane. People comment enough, they get what they want. So maybe if those who are upset on the opposing side comment enough to out balance those who commented for the change, the tide will shift yet again. Anet does what the players want, and it seems like a lot of paying players want their armor back. Maybe we just need to fill the forum with comments and will get our way like crying little babies.

No. The whole thing was a disaster from the start. At this point Anet is in damage control mode by recalling the old armor and offering refunds. I seriously doubt they are going to do anything else regarding this issue. They tossed out an, in my opinion, sloppy remake and said, “Come get your gem refunds.” I’m pretty certain the state of the armor now is where it will stand.

I do find it somewhat amusing that people this didn’t even affect are spending so much time in this thread trying to tell people that it did affect they don’t have a right to be unhappy with the end result. I can almost see them snickering behind their monitor.

So I’m still confused for those of you that got gem refunds what happened to the new skin? Did Anet remove it and change your skin back to the armor type you placed it on or do you still get to keep the new skin as well?

Arenanet can’t change the skin back so unless they provide 6 transmutation stones as well they can’t actually do anything. In my case once I receive the refund I will be changing the skin anyway cause the new skin is godawful IMHO.

I requested a refund for the armor set plus six transmutation splitters or my original armor back. Anet refunded me 2000 gems. I think if you are sure to indicate that you want your original armor back, they will compensate for that.

Well that’s good to know. At first I thought I would have to use my refund to buy items to change out of the armor. I had a flame catcher skin I only used to go with the armor but I guess I’m probably out of luck on that one.

While I can’t speak for him, that’s still an issue relating to another item in game, and again, the armor never should have been cultural armor to begin with.

Besides all of that, I find it funny so many people expected a non-reskin when, not only are the medium and heavy reskins, but the old version of the light was a reskin. The entire flamekissed collection is reskins. Expecting the revamp to be a non-reskin is a bit silly.

The fact that the medium and heavy were reskins have nothing to do with it because this whole Flamekissed mess has nothing to do with them. People bought a skin. Many people spent real world money only to buy gems to get that skin. It was announced it would be taken away. They made people unhappy. There were many, many people posting about being unhappy with having their purchase changed. The least Anet could have done was to come up with something original to replace it with. Anet took the money gladly and when people were upset they said, “Just wait because the remake will be nice.” Yes, ‘really nice’ is subjective but from reading all these threads on this and posts I would say as far as the forum community, most don’t agree it is ‘really nice’.

To condense this for you:

1. Anet takes money for gems used to buy a skin
2. Anet says you can’t keep what you paid us for. However, stay tuned because you will like the new one better.
3. Anet slaps flames on a cheap feathered skin.
4. Anet, “Here is what you paid for now. If you don’t like it get a gem refund but not your money. Just gems you might not even want to use on anything. Thanks for being a customer and trusting in Anet.”

Sadly I don’t expect much to happen from posts in this forum. Does the gem store still work?

the new flamekissed...

You expected something special when Medium and Heavy were not. That’s your own fault there.

They sold a light armor set in the gem store and ‘recalled’ it due to their mistake of making it an HT3 reskin. They said to those that bought it that the new one would be ‘really nice’.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Flamekissed/first#post3276620

Instead they just reskined feathered armor. Sure you can get a refund but the fact remains they sold something, took it back, and stated that the rework would be ‘really nice’. Yes you can get a refund but it comes at an inconvenience of the customer to now have to deal with asking for one. People spent real world money to buy the gems for an armor set that got recalled. These customers waited to see what the new skin would be expecting something original since what they paid for was being taken away. Instead it was a lazy reskin.

It isn’t right, it is just sloppy. Basically Anet said, “Here you go. Now go talk to customer service because we don’t care anymore.” From a customer standpoint I would think something better than a generic reskin should be expected after they took your money to start with.

So they add content based on the guys that log in and spend 4 hours a day to do all the achievements of the game!
And what about the 12k gap between the previous piece of armor and that one? That doesn’t make any sense.
The ammount of AP is just absurb considering that there are 2 armor pieces left.

It gives you a goal. Something tells me you will be able to live without it until then. The problem I see with a lot of people on these forums is the, “It’s there. I should be able to get it right now!” mentality. Long term goals are good.

I really think it would have been cooler, had they used the Winged Armor. It would look awesome if the designs on the clothing looked like they were etched in fire. =)

I think it would have been cooler if after they sold a gem store amor set to people that they ‘recalled’ they would have come up with some original art instead of a reskin. You know, “Sorry we sold you a product you can’t keep. We appreciate your money so here is something original. If you still don’t like it we would be glad to give you a refund but we wanted you to know we at least tried to thank you for being a customer.”

Heh, i fully expected them to do just that in order to minimize the disappointment. Instead they decided to go for a cheapest solution.

…actually, i’m not that surprised.

Well it’s too late now at this point. I’m afraid the new flamekissed is WYSIWYG. No matter how many people are unhappy with it they can’t make a 3rd change. It would just lead to more people complaining from those that liked FKv2.0

Actually I think they should not even offer FKv2.0 in the gem store now just for those that bought the original version and kept the remake. It would be a reward for buying gems when it was first offered.

It was a disaster from the start and now it’s just damage control I suppose. I will say that I am disappointed in how they dealt with the remake though.
