Uh oh. Dont speak negatively about the necro… Youll have noobs come in here telling you how much they wreck people on their necro. When in all reality they are playing in the low MMRs with people worse or as bad as them.

I too agree that the necro is sort of weak. Cele signet is one of our strongest builds, and even then if you are against another class with a decent player behind it, you don’t have all the tools to succeed.

Everything can be argued to a point, but I agree with a lot of your points.

TL;DR: GS too weak to be fun. RS/GS Lacks numbers, lacks the theme of Reaper (slow heavy hitting)

SKILLS

Problematic Skill: GS #1; Damage too low for its cast speed.
Possible fixes: Increase dmg by 30%


Problematic Skill: Gravedigger; Damage too low for the cast time. Big windup thats easily dodged, especially since it was nerfed to not instantly reset.
Possible fixes: Increase damage by 15%
Reasoning: The only reason its worth pressing is because it’s one of the only heavy hitting abilities. Not because its good. _

Reaper Shroud

Problem: Reaper Shroud #1 Underwhelming given that it can be hard to maintain LF in pvp due to the massive amount of cleave and this is a melee shroud now. Also in the new Verdant brink where there are alot of AOE attacks, and mobs hit hard.
Possible fixes: Increase damage by 20%


Problem: Reaper Shroud #3 I like this pulse, but I think reaper shroud should be giving us a break bar just by being in RS and it would fit better into the reaper’s “scary monster gonna get you” theme.
Possible fixes: Non-traited break bar when in RS. change RS 3 to clear immobs/chills/cripple on pulse, keep fear on flip skill.


That’s it for now, these are things that I would really like to see, not everyone will agree.I’m extremely disappointed with reaper currently. It’s the thing that brought me back to GW2. I’ll stay optimistic though.

Once again: They are random people playing on the computers ArenaNet have at the convention. Many of them might never have touched the game at all before today. The streams are not supposed to be super informative and played by the best players in the world.

turning up your camera cuts the leap distance. burning speed is 600 range, only if you turn the camera up it is half the distance. that’s how all leaps in the game work.

Why none of these suggestion will happen (outside of any personal feeling about these suggestion) :

Rending claw : enhancing it’s range will make it directly compete with the scepter, boosting it’s base damage would make it a threat to any close range build. It will make other profession jealous.

Scepter is… a condi weapon… axe is a power weapon, not sure where you are trying to go with this.

Ghastly claw : the suggestion make it totally OP in sustainability potential. To much LF and siphon may proc from that (not to mention offensive traits and whatever).

Foot in the grave : Actually it’s the best defensive option in this traitline and also pretty good for what it does. Adding boons to necromancer is impossible due to specific necromancer’s design philosophy.

Dhumfire : traits need and will work the same whatever the shroud you have. If they start to introduce different effect per shroud it will become a gaz factory.

It’s a different shroud, with different attack speeds. This would actually make alot of sense to have dhuumfire affect each auto differently.

Signet in Shroud : They allowed the effect of the signet of vampirism to pass through the shroud, so we know that it’s doable. However, due to the passive effect of some signets, this would cause imbalance. (Mainly an issue of sustainability while in shroud)

Signet of undead : 3 reasons here. The passive effect you want is totaly over the top, the necromancer’s design philosophy does not allow more boons to be given to the necromancer and (probably the most logical) each profession have to be plagued by at least 1 skill dedicated to the resurection of another player (beside the necromancer should probably be the more dedicated profession to this “resurection” thing)

It doesnt sound like you play necro at all. Self-might, retal, protection (on wells), and regeneration.


I think youre confusing “good” with “OP” as youve called everything OP, but forget other classes have these functionalities, but better.

You almost make yourself sound like another class’ shill.

All in all, none of these suggestion would “balance” or address the dire needs of the necromancer. The necromancer is bound to it’s own strict design philosophy and even if it mean improvement the dev won’t do anything that could go against this sacred philosophy. In fact, they did it when they introduced dhuumfire and they were forced to nerf everything around dhuumfire and then dhuumfire itself to keep their pride sound and safe while keeping the game balanced.

The point is to change that philosophy. Why do you want to beat down your own class and give up? The point of this discussion is to express the problems we have, and offer solutions.

Also, newsflash, the game is far from balanced in pvp, and pve for that matter.

If you have something better to “balance” us, then speak up, otherwise don’t just dismiss other necromancers from discussion, because you add nothing to the discussion and solving the problem.

I’m generally not a fan of “suggestions” to problems. Mostly because they’re often unbalanced and people have different idea’s on how to fix the problem.
I personally think we should generally just make sure we agree on the actual problems, present those and make generalized suggestions on where we think improvements should happen.

That said, I think these suggestions are quite good for most part. Most aren’t major overhauls, but just some tweaks and QoL improvements.
I disagree on 2 things though:

1) Signet of Undeath.
5% every 3 seconds really is an awful lot of LF you passively regenerate. Especially if it keeps working whilst in shroud (as per your other suggestion).
Also if you change the active to what you suggest, a cooldown reduction is probably needed as well. Probably something like 45 to 50 seconds, seeing as Dolyak Signet gives 10 stacks of stability for 8 seconds and has a 60 sec CD.

2) Foot in the Grave
Mistake in your reasoning. We don’t give up +20% damage under 50% HP, but we give up +50% crit chance while in DS.
On top of that. I think FitG is actually really good and gets too much flak. A stunbreak and stability on a 10 second cooldown is very strong. And there are a lot of builds that make good use of it.

I think the problem with FitG, is more that the 50% crit while in DS is too good. You take a blow by not picking it most of the time.

I like everything in this list except the fix for Signet of Undeath. I’m really not a fan of things that depend on getting hit. The whole point of smart game play is to avoid getting hit. That’s the core of the active defense and dodge system this game is built around. I think the passive should still stay as constant life force generation, but the percentage definitely needs to increase. 1% every 3 seconds is terrible. I like your suggested changes to the active.

They really do need to implement these changes. Would go a long way to fixing necromancer / reaper functionality.

This is a good point, ill change the OP.

Edit: I think 5% every 3 seconds is a good balanced number, so changed my suggestion to this.

I spent a couple hours writing this and making it stupid-easy to read and understand, so I hope this doesn’t just get buried in the piles of salt

SKILLS

Problematic Skill: Rending claws (axe skill 1); Damage too low, range too low.
Possible fixes: Increase range to 900, increase damage by 15-20%
Reasoning: Axe is our mid-range weapon, but 600 is simply too close due to movement abilities not being affected by chill/cripple, it is too easy for enemies to gap close 600. The damage of course, has always been low on axe 1, due to this, most players do not use it, increasing it will let axe see more play.


Problematic Skill: Ghastly Claws (axe skill 2); Too easily interrupted for the damage it does. No cleave, can be interrupted simply by moving to the side of the player. Making this skill very poor.
Possible fixes: Allow this skill to hit its target despite the players frontal positioning (can be cast while target is behind/to the side of the necro)
Reasoning: Damage is fine, but the ability to interrupt this skill is way too high to make it a viable and dependable weapon


TRAITS

Problematic trait: Foot in the grave; Underwhelming given what we have to give up to take this trait.
Possible fixes: Now also grants protection for 4s.
Reasoning: _To take this trait, we have to give up our only burning condi application, or 50% crit chance in DS. Currently the trade off is not worth it, so often times this trait is not picked. _


Problematic trait: Dhuumfire; This skill will be fine with Reaper shroud, but with death shroud the application is too slow, making this trait very underwhelming.
Possible fixes: Keep its current mechanic (1s) when in reaper shroud. When in death shroud: Applies 2s of burning instead of 1s.
Reasoning: Lifeblast is a slow cast, changing this to 2s while in DS gives a condi necro more choices on what DS ability they use. Increasing playability and choice, is simply good for the game.


UTILITIES

Problem Signets in DS/RS;
Possible fixes: Allow Signets passives to affect all necromancers in RS or DS. Allow utilities to be seen, but not toggle-able in RS/DS.
Reasoning: Having a class mechanic that harshly works against all other class mechanics is cumbersome, creates all sorts of problems, and is bad for playability, the game and the player (especially new ones)


Problematic Skill: Signet of Undeath; This skill has 3 second cast time. More often than not a player is dead before this can be cast. Coupled with the fact that blood magic received some resurrection support and the long cast time with poor passive, this signet sees almost no play.
Possible fixes: Change passive and active. 30s cd. Active: Instant cast: Stun break and 2 stacks of stability for 5s. Passive: increase LF generation of this passive to 5% every 3 seconds.
Reasoning: The main issue as a necromancer we face, being the slow ‘hard’ hitting ‘monster’ we are intended to be is that we are so easily CC’d that we often find ourselves ping-ponged around unable to do very much while burned down through LF and health. This would make this signet see play in most forms of gameplay, and solve one of our fundamental issues.

What an odd point to argue. Last I checked, Moa locked down all the builds on all professions. I fail to see how the Necro is particularly worse off.

1) Corruptions reward is too low for their risk. We can send the corruption condis to enemies sure, but require a trait and/or a utility slot JUST to use one utility slot. If you are against a strong condi team, you’re kittened.

2) For a slow class, we should have good access to stability (without even having to go reaper for that pitiful amount of stab from RS3) due to the fact that all of our abilities are SLOW as beans reflectable absorbable or VERY dodgeable.

4) Conditions are far too slow to apply. Scepter doesnt apply enough for how slow the AA is. Scepter 2 is too slow and not rewarding enough.

5) Corrosive poison cloud. Nothing more needs to be said about this. It’s garbage.

6) Nerfing chill, before reaper (whos main mechanic is chill) even comes out. My god why.

7) Im going to repeat this one, because it cannot be said enough. If you want us to be the SLOW HEAVY HITTER, then we cant do it without more access to stability. Too many other classes have way too much access to innvulns, movement, vigor, blocks, reflects, teleports… the list goes on.

Please, for the sake of me giving you any more money, change your design philosphy, or stick to it with EVERY class.

Actually I didn’t mean that sarcastically, well the “dot dot dot” part is but that’s more me stuck working in the system and not directed to anyone on the forums.

I have been poking about this fix for a month now or so internally now. Been asking to get someone in here to talk to everyone about this bug and what’s up with it but as of yet no dice. I am doing everything I can to get this resolved or some explanations for you guys.

But yeah, I have some extremely tied hands and poking with my poking stick is about all I can do because I don’t control development or production schedules or design decisions. I do take screenshots of comments and paste them into some internal emails though… And the # of live reports, and the forum links, etc. I can make a huge ruckus when it’s needed, but in general everything I do is behind the scenes and I don’t take credit or spill the beans on what occurred to get it to that point.

While I have all the answers, really I am the next thing to a walking encyclopedia of the GW2 bug DB at any time, I can’t really go around shouting what is happening one way or the other because it can change daily… and letting some things I know be known would probably result in my not working for ArenaNet anymore. That’s something that would be kinda poopy and I would like that not to happen, so I avoid it and instead just say slightly nebulous things like “soon” when I see a fix coming for the next release. One day that “soon” will have some real intent behind it. Today actually seems like a good day to “soon” some threads so…

Also yes, reading and responding on the forums is not actually part of my job. I got to a point where I just really didn’t like how you guys felt ignored in this forum and I’m trying to do something about it. I tend to only post positively and I won’t respond to all threads.

Speaking of Resistance, I don’t remember if they mentioned if it would negate all condition effects or not. I do know know they said that you wouldn’t take damage from the damaging conditions, but lets say if you are blinded while also under resistance, will that next attack land anyway? Or if you are poisoned while under resistance, will you no longer suffer from the healing reduction? Things like this…

I have to agree with some of the posts in this thread. It is a dps nerf, for one of the weaker dps weapons in the game…

As for the animation, it looks okay on human/sylvari male (other than making offhand magically dissappear), and absolutely horrid on female.

On Charrs… the attack animation looks like they are pointing at the ground, even when the target is elsewhere.

It’s super clunky, and needs to be reverted until a better animation or fixes can be implemented.

Seems that they paid special attention to the tail section of the charr model for the new outfit.

Actually, they used the same base as existing models. The section you are focusing on, is the same as the duelist coat, which has been in the game since release.

Ingame GMs, do they exist?

All of us (GMs) have character names starting with GM (GM Proheals, for example). We are online 24/7 and responding to reports sent by you via the in-game reporting system. 98% of the time we’re invisible clearing bots and the like.

To remove someone using hacks (teleports, speed, etc) we have to witness the act in game so you must use the in-game reporting tool. The only exception is if you can point us to chat where the player cheating has said they are using a 3rd party program.

Hope this helps, I’ll check in later for questions.

Then might I suggest a more robust reporting tool, or one with more options..

I can report a player for many ways of cheating, but there’s only an option for botting.

As someone who often plays with PUG groups in dungeons and fractals, it was inevitable that I’d notice many of the strange and funny LFG messages that people put out in the hopes of finding that “ideal” party in an effort to make their dungeon/fractal run as smooth or as fast as possible.

I thought I’d share some examples of these examples, as well as my thoughts on them.

“Fractal LvL X: Swamp ready!”

By far the easiest fractal, so.. Yeah roll swamp or I will.

“LFG Zerker only pls! Gear Check.”

Why arent you running zerking in PVE?

“LFP, 2 Warriors, 1 Mesmer, 1 Guard only!” (example)

Yeah this always irked me, but that’s mostly Anets fault. They didnt make other classes desirable enough to bring, especially necros.

Best Necro Armour

I love the Arah armor, but I’m not patient enough to get it. :-P

Just run p3 everyday, its the easiest path.

So today I was bored and decided to make a necro full glass with DS recharge on spectral skills. And all I had to do is press autoattack for easy 3-4k life blast crits and tank all the damage with DS.

Defense is passive all you have to do is facetank damage in DS and the offense is also passive because all the DPS is from autoattack.

Is it really the easiest build in the game ? Or turret engi is easier?

PvP only

I really don’t understand posts like this. If you play against unskilled opponents, your point of view is going to be skewed greatly.

[Charr]+trickster leg skin+ helm weapon bug

I am not sure when this bug started. It only appears (to my knowledge) when you have your leggings skinned to the trickster gem store legs, and interacts with your helm hidden or shown.

This also takes place when you are wearing masks, or other small headpieces. I do not know if this is cause in combo with trickster legs+ haircut, but as you can see in my screenshots:

The end loot for a succesful map is not that bad, actually, and while there won’t be as many chests to open, remember that you can turn in 10 crests and ~90c for a loot bag with a decent chance of dropping t6 mats.

The end loot is crap compared to chest farming, even after the nerf.

Thats the issue with anet, they still havent figured out that players like to be rewarded for playing content, not given crumbs, in a hope for something good.

Honestly, I turned in around 750 wrappers, I thought I would be mad that I didn’t win, but.. Im not.

RNG is RNG.

I’m sort of used to not getting anything big and pricey in the game. 7.3k hours spread across two accounts has taught me that I should never get my hopes up for anything ever. You will never be disappointed then.

Really? Nothing from anyone? This isn’t just some armor clipping, this is a serious bug. Charr have massive skill delay in PvP. I would like some input or a comment from a dev if this is just me or if it is a known issue.

I know this post is old, but I get it too on all my charr chars. Human, not an issue. I believe it something to do with the size of the hitbox or animation.

With hambow I defend points in pvp. With hambow I roam in WvW. With hambow I clear my daily fractals ^^ I only swap build/gear when Im going to raid.

Never had that problem ever necro wells are great in fractals and our skills are good slows/poisons condi transfering staff number 1 skill heal apply regen and fear too since is low CD you can remove defience really fast, necros are fine! ;p

The problem with the “ive never had a problem…” statement is that it is solely based on your experience, and unless you have been playing this game for as long as some of us ( 7.2k hours for me)… Then your statement means absolutely nothing and offers little to the conversation.
