Oddly enough all the Quaggan torchbearers are normal adult Quaggans. But they seem wholly unrepresented in the actual Quaggan village.

I don’t follow. Those all look like misfits. None of them combine into a set. I want a full skritt set for my Sylvari warrior, but currently there is only the harvesting tool.

I was also interested in the frost wasp for my charr scrapper, but I want a set of bug tools, not just one.

I could even go for Dreamcleaver for my sylvari mesmer, but not if it’s only the logging tool.

Female Humans and Norn would need something too, though I can’t be certain what that should be.

Tattoos? :O

Tattoos are a norn thing, though, so giving them to the women, but only giving the men beards would be lame, and if the norn also got tattoos, now that’s four things just for male norn… It gets complicated.

Again I was focusing exclusively on heads, since that’s where the beard choice is, along with most of the other stuff. So I was thinking something related to heads.

Eh, if Anet wants to make it so that people can’t “collect them all”, many people will not be interested in collecting many. Not sure why that’s a good idea but I suppose Anet knows.

Luckily I’m not interested in most minis. I don’t like the idea of mini people and I also don’t like that they scale with character size. Minis + Asura = hardly being able to see most minis.

I have not experienced this. You can check in the mini preview. For example, Mini Scruffy is almost as tall as my Asura, while being nowhere near as tall as any of my other characters

This has been a problem for me since the first make over kit came out.

We get new faces. We get new hair.

Why do we not get new third option styles. For humans and norn that would be beards. For asura and Sylvari that’s ears. For Charr it’s horns. I want more options. I’m not sure what human and norn females have for third options, but they should get something too.

you mean tattoos/beards/horns/biolum/markings? the, you know, actual unique racial things that you can pick at creation, but that makeover kits offer NOTHING new on? i would kill for kit-exclusive horns and fur colors to match hair colors (neon blue tiger anyone?) or exclusive biolum patterns, or something cool kitten

I was really only thinking in terms of the heads. Beards, Horns and Ears. Female Humans and Norn would need something too, though I can’t be certain what that should be.

It is a lot of work to make an outfit without some kind of dress effect on it. The Aetherblade heavy pants for female skin are just leggings with metal underwear, it’s a nice effect. The Ascalon Catacombs light pants on male are leather trousers. It’s somewhat harder for medium because the top is the problem. There are at least three tops for female medium that aren’t long. I don’t know of any for male.

I use the Vigil heavy pants on male because they’re only a half skirt, but that’s about all I know of off hand.

Thanks for all the input! Lots of things about some classes that I didnt know before.

One additional question… how useful do you think stealth is for bypassing mobs in certain areas? I havent played stealth classes before past about level 20 so I dont really know how useful it can be as a tool for getting around mobs.

Stealth is situational since it’s generally a short duration effect. I don’t think it’s possible to permastealth anymore. Or else I’m doing it wrong.

I have a daredevil with stealth and I found it very useful while harvesting winter berries to just stealth before harvesting and ignore everyone.

In general you don’t need to worry about avoiding mobs, though. You might occasionally get slowed down for a bit, but mobs give up pretty quick if you just run past them. There are only a handful of mobs that when concentrated enough can trash you if you don’t try to deal with them.

Have you tried using something other than a traditional keyboard and mouse?

I play all my games with a MMO mouse and Orbweaver, which makes the reaching my keybinds much easier.

this!^

i clicked my way through the majority of my WoW experience before i bought a speedpad (mine is a nostromo n52te) and it is so much better now!

you have a D-pad under your thumb and you can bind 4 buttons to it and there is another button above and another below, that is 6 buttons right under your thumb.

if this thing broke i’d honestly be screwed when it comes to playing GW2!
i’m no contortionist when it comes to keyboard keybinds so i highly and thoroughly recommend getting a speedpad

I also use a Nostromo and Naga
12 buttons at my thumb tip for action binds, another 14 on the other side for skills with a thumbstick for mobility.

If you turn it in to the Priory you don’t really “get” anything. If you turn it into the Consortium you gain access to cheap garbage that isn’t worth having at half the price. So, it’s up to you. Personally, I get the feeling that the Shadowstone is directly connected to the Bloodstone storyline, that if you give it to the Priory you’re actually giving it to the White Mantle.

Old vs New Trait System, Viability.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

This isn’t new, it’s actually the exact opposite, it’s extremely old. I also find it amusing that you would like to bring it back to the second iteration of the trait system, because that was the version that was almost universally loathed by the populous. Locking traits behind events proved to be a terrible decision that locked some people out of even having traits they dearly wanted.

I like the design of the trait system as it currently is, I only dislike the order it is obtained. For traits and skills I don’t like having to force my way through options I have no interest in just to acquire the ones I actually want. That was what I liked about the original system, I could target the skills and traits I wanted and get those while ignoring the ones I didn’t want.

Of course with Elite Specs it doesn’t matter because in order to get the elite spec at all I have to have ever skill and trait so ultimately I’m still going to get everything.

All I want 4 Wintersday(Katana and Wakizashi)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kal Spiro.9745

Properly speaking a Katana should be used with two hands. But I will accept that Belinda’s sword is pretty ridiculous, so probably not a katana. Also, that a katana can be used one handed making it more of a born out of wedlock sword. There isn’t a such thing, though, mechanically, as an offhand sword, it’s just a sword that you can use in your offhand if you have that set, so it’s one or the other, not both. If you don’t then it’s dagger, which is the Tanto.

I’m glad that after two years I can finally stop getting boxes of junk every time I open a JP chest. Although, the junk was 1 or 10 sp, so not terrible to just get every time.

Even happier to see a bug from the very first Wintersday finally fixed. Those exploding boxes associated with the Gingerbread lane used to be how the game enforced the time requirement, besides slowly murdering you, before it became persistent. When they made the middle point a safe zone it didn’t make sense anymore, but it still followed that one lane. Hopefully, now, it won’t be as much a free for all and people can move at their own pace.

Kal Spiro.9745

Ok, so I’ve been running my characters through a Rich mining node. Asura do have a four stroke animation, but the fourth stroke doesn’t do anything. Interestingly some of the picks will pull four some only pull three. The wintersday pick, for instance, will run two interactions on the third strike, regardless of animation, if a fourth interaction can occur. So it is possible for a pick to have more than the standard three interactions, but it’s unlikely for the animation to be changed to adopt it. It would just do three and then pull all possible interactions at once under the best circumstance.

Characters, NPCs, behaving in a manner that evokes an emotional reaction from player and player character, in character, is not bad storytelling. Characters behaving in a manner that is disliked, or even unlikable, is not bad storytelling. Hated and hateable characters can be much better components of a good story than those with whom we always agree, get along with, or even love.

What is bad storytelling is characters, even the PC, not being able to, allowed to, respond appropriately to the behavior.

Sorry, but evoking the response, “Why is he acting like this, and why am I letting him act like this, this is frustrating and annoying,” is not the same thing as evoking an emotional reaction and being disliked.

So now they don’t like him because he can think for himself, take his own decisions, while you can’t do neither of them because you’re only capable of doing what the writers allow you to do.

Who is Braham, Rox, Kas, Taimi and Jory?

in Living World

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

We met Braham and Rox first. Both were brash and kind of annoying, Braham more so. They were individually investigating strange happenings in the mountains between the Black Citadel and Hoelbrak. We helped them and and so they called us friend, but moreso they called eachother friend.

We met Majory and Kasmere when a member of the Lion’s Arch Council died and Marjory took the case to investigate. We helped track down the one behind it, but it turned out to be a bigger situation than all that.

We didn’t meet Taimi until close to the end when Scarlet implemented the Marionette near the Durmond Priory. It’s still there, if you’re curious.

Then the battle for Lion’s Arch happened.

So to why they call us Boss. That’s Marjory’s fault. Even though she should rightfully be the leader because she, not us, brought everyone together. She, not us, owns the place we initially called headquarters. She, not us, owned the investigation business that we were basically all becoming a part of. She, not us, decided we were the one in charge, and everyone else just went along with it.

You denied my view on the purpose of the guild while restating it in slightly different words. The purpose of the guild is not to work against the elder dragons, but to seek ways to defeat them? Huh? Seeking ways to defeat them is not working against them?

Slight differences are meaningful. Working against them indicates a buffer, a shield, and defined act of intercepting and thwarting. That’s not what we’re doing. Seeking ways to defeat leads to working against, but it is still distinctly different.

We dropped the whole thing with investigating the bloodstone and the White Mantle the second we heard that Primordus was active. If we consider Lazarus a threat to Aurene, you sure can’t tell it by any action that we’re taking. We just let him walk (float) away. That makes the issues of the bloodstone, the White Mantle, and Lazarus peripheral to what we see as the main issues at this time. We might be worried about these things, but we’ve either left them in other hands (Canach and the Shining Blade) or left them unaddressed in any way. For now, at any rate.

We didn’t Let Lazarus do anything. The only thing in that chamber that was strong enough to stop Lazarus if he chose to act was Aurene, and at that moment, probably not. As for the White Mantel, we’re not done with them, but that immediate situation around the bloodstone has been resolved. And we don’t have enough information to pursue Caudacus. There is nothing left for us to investigate there.

What part of “we were exerting authority outside of the proper sphere of that authority” did YOU miss? We had no right whatsoever to order Marjory not to investigate Lazarus under the circumstances. Advise, yes. Order, no. Again, this is not an in-combat situation or a mission moving through enemy territory. Jory is on her own time, not on any assignment from the guild. Nor is her action interfering with any project in which the guild is actively engaged, since we are doing nothing on those issues.

The part where that’s not true or accurate. That’s not how a guild works. The leader of the guild isn’t just the leader in the middle of a fight. He is the leader for all guild related things, and Lazarus is absolutely a guild related thing. Also, everyone in the guild, which she is simply by virtue of having put us in charge of the group, is the responsibility of the guild leader. So saying, “No, you can’t do this thing that will probably get you killed,” is absolutely in the purview of the player character at that moment. Also her complete dismissal of it is a betrayal of her initial act of putting us in charge in the first place.

Lazarus made not one single threat against Aurene. He did not “invade”, he helped defend her. If this was part of some nefarious plot on his part, then it is certainly vital that somebody keep tabs on him and investigate his activities. Is there someone better qualified than Marjory the investigator to do this? And how does her doing so “put the entire team in danger”?

He was not welcomed there. He was a dangerous being whose very presence was a direct threat. He didn’t ask, he just appeared. That is an invasion. If someone breaks out of prison and then comes into your house because the door happens to be open, that’s still a home invasion. That’s how that word works.

Furthermore, Lazarus did not “steal” the magic from the bloodstone. He was summoned there by a bunch of White Mantle nincompoops trying to resurrect him. He prevented a horrible disaster that could have affected several major cities in Tyria. (Assuming General Soulkeeper is correct in stating that the explosion could have hit LA if it had not reversed, then what are the chances that Rata Sum, the Grove, and Divinity’s Reach would have gone untouched? All three are closer to Bloodstone Fen than is LA.)

I will admit that I don’t know how that particular bit of magic works, because no one outside of the writers really can, but I don’t have any reason to believe he couldn’t have done it differently, possibly even putting the energy back where it came from. Also, we have only his word and a vaguely understood shadow recreation of how it went down. Since we have no reason to trust him there’s no reason to believe this wasn’t always his plan. It certainly seemed like it was always how it was supposed to go down based on the journals. So steal still seems appropriate to me.

Anyone else not like quaggan?

“Not like” is a complete understatement. Quaggans are the worst things designs since the berlin wall. I hoped and prayed to the six gods they would never be incorporated in the story. Looks like ill have to start praying to rodgort if i want some results.

What a bizarre comparison. Quaggans are a cutesy race in a fantasy game; the Berlin wall was a tool used by a RL repressive regime to keep people from escaping to a less hostile environment.

Quaggans are from a biological, evolutionary and design point of view complete random mishaps that shouldnt be able to survive in any world. Theyre ugly, theyre annoying, and as a biologist i. An say theres nothing about their survival skills thats slightly optimal. Clearly magic has kept them alive because the chaina of evolution wouldve eradicated them by now

I’m curious, oh great biologist, what about them would impair their survival? Their ability to swim well and breath underwater as well as on land, survive in arctic temperatures, opposable thumbs, ability to construct and use weapons and buildings? An ability to actually alter their physical shape, reducing their size rather significantly. These seem like useful evolutionary qualities.

Okay, I’ll concede that opposable thumbs and the knowledge to wield weapons compensate for their biological failures.

As for the biological failures:
1) Their physical form is not made for swimming, despite being an aquatic species. In their forms they would requrie tremendous amounts of energy to stay afloat, and not sink to the bottom oor float helplessly, depending on their body density. (a quick look at their limbs also tell you they’re not made for swimming)

2) Society: they have a useless means of survival, HOWEVER the use of this means is considered taboo, and they lose all hope of ever procreating. They live in a society where the survivors aren’t allowed to breed. Thats like a kick in Darwin’s skritt-bags.

Their cutesy form is basically an anthropomorphic manatee. Manatees seem to survive just fine on their own, when people aren’t murdering them with motor boats.

I don’t know what you’re talking about with the procreation though. There are plenty of instances of Quaggan children, so obviously breeding is occurring.

An orca can swim just fine. A quaggan lacks all of that design, it’s literally a ball with an orca or manatee skin pattern. When was the last time you saw a ball gliding through water without resistance?

As for the children: those are the children of the quaggans who don’t use their power-mode. If a quaggan uses his power-mode, the others will view him as corrupt or inferior, and wont breed with him anymore.

I accept your ideas surrounding the Orca quaggan. That’s not what quaggan look like. They look like the things that exist in every quaggan village in Tyria, until this one was made. Those things really shouldn’t be able to swim well, hunt or even move easily.

As for culture, it isn’t a matter of “power” it’s a matter of giving in to their base aggression. It is literally a race of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hydes. You don’t admire Dr Jekyll for giving in and becoming Mr Hyde, you recognize that Mr Hyde is a monster, and therefore so is Dr Jekyll for actively allowing himself to become that.

Is this a new trend?

If I have to be in charge, if I am responsible for leadership of the group, something Marjory insisted on, then I should be able to expect others to either follow or resign from the guild. Now we know that Marjory lies to us and cannot be relied on. She should be removed from the guild.

I would never want to be part of a guild with a leader so autocratic that they thought they had the right to control every minute of my time. Guild members have their own lives and responsibilities as well as guild membership. Jory has never disobeyed a direct order in combat, but this wasn’t a battlefield situation. The fight was over, we were not on a mission in enemy territory, and she is on her own time, fully entitled to do with it as she pleases, whether or not it seems foolish or risky to anyone else.

The primary purpose of Dragon’s Watch is to work against the elder dragons. Lazarus and the White Mantle situation are currently peripheral issues, if even that. Kick Margery out of the guild because she’s off doing something not apparently related to the guild’s charter and current investigations of Primordus and Jormag? By that standard the Commander should have been thrown out of the Pact long ago, back in the Scarlet days.

What part of, this is the first time the player has ever exerted the authority Marjory herself forced on us, did you miss? Where are all the other minutes coming from? This was one time when she is making a terrible choice that is extremely dangerous, has no reasonable expectation of a worthwhile return on her time, and ultimately puts the entire team in danger should things that could easily happen actually occur.

Also, that’s not the purpose of the guild. That’s the purpose of the Pact. The purpose of the guild is to seek ways to defeat the dragons. The most important way currently being Aurene, but also includes the magic of the bloodstones and whatever crazy ideas Taimi thinks up. Lazarus is directly connected to two of those things in this specific scene since he stole the magic of a bloodstone and is suddenly invading the area Aurene is in while the defences are down.

*PLEASE FIX* Bitter cold

I really don’t understand this at all. Go collect a few eggs for the griffons and while in the area collect winter berries. You can collect almost 50 without much effort and you don’t need anywhere near that. Move to the Grawl area and kill trolls in the caves until you get the heart. Killing trolls will get you suet and by doing it for the heart you also gain access to the fire stone.

That’s all the parts. Now, go to the hot spring and then go to bed, or whatever. The next time you come back you have all the parts and where you need to be to combine them. Then you can just do the Bitter Cold part, it doesn’t take long.

Ok yeah, if you know exactly what you need and the most efficient way to get it then it won’t take you very long.

If you did it for the first time the night before, just before going to sleep (aka when you’re already tired) and then find you need to repeat it almost 24 hours later without the UI to tell you what you need it’s much harder.

When I first realised I had to re-make the elixir I couldn’t remember the recipe and it wasn’t on the Wiki yet (meaning I’d already spent some time looking it up).

-snip-

All I got out of this is that you don’t know how to use the Story Journal. The Elixir Recipe was an entire story section in this part. As such the ingredients are clearly explained in that section. It doesn’t provide quantities, but you had the right idea, get more than you need and you shouldn’t have to worry.

It even specifically identifies the firestone as the thing you got from the Grawl.

What’s not to like? They’re horrifying murder machines constantly on the verge of going balls to the walls, lost in rage, and slaughtering everything around them, and eating it. They have to actively choose to not be that, all the time. They want to be better than all the bad things happening around them, and so that’s why they are like they are.

I’m talking about The Bitter Cold area for characters that haven’t done the story, obviously.

Use the thermal tube to launch your character into the middle of bitter cold. You’re character will die, but you can still get the PoI.
