Yeah I fear our grenade barrage will be next in line for a nerf.
It has been out since release, but wasn’t popular until few weeks. Like many build for the engineer.
I used to think it was easy to avoid, but it’s a lot harder when you feint it. I can feint it with net shot jump shot, then magnetic pull, then slick shoe stun. 3 feint, which one will I combo? Hard to guess.
I just hate to be the class to one shot people. Game are not fun when we are one shotting each other.

It is really fun I agree Man in WvW I feel like a thief, jump in, destroy someone, then slick shoes away! (Anyone else use slick shoes with that build? It’s amazing!)
But it will get boring over time, and it’s not fun for my target.

Take a tier 1 guild of taiwanese that play like robot, send them in one of the last tier servers, and this is what happen.
What ever happen, this is not the same server that I used to like.
I remember when they had a blog with videos, pulling few number and using the grub to attack bigger server.
Now they are just the result of some sort of artificial transfer.
The good thing is, Kaineng prolly won’t suffer from those transfer. Usually, mass transfer result in a lot of leaver once they hit a wall. But Transfer are closing at the end of the month, so this prolly won’t be an issue.

Hey All!
Since showed on a stream 2 weeks ago, the 100 nades build are getting pretty popular in spvp and tpvp.
I have seen a lot of engineer in hotjoin in spvp, prolly people trying out this hot mama grenade destroyer.
For anyone that tried it, it will prolly be our first competitive build for a long time. Sure our Top Engineer in paid tournament used other build, but they were very few on the competitive scene, and they were prolly carried by their team.
Yesterday I was still thinking it wasn’t as good as people thought. But I checked some video, and rebuilded my 100 naders, and know I see how strong it is.
You can one shot a lot of people if you build glassy, and do it with AoE. Sure your AoiE won’t hit as hard on people around then your main target, but it will still deliver a pack.
You can miss a lot this combo, but once you get it well, it’s carnage. I’m still training it, but I saw an engineer that could pull it out of nowhere and destroy people. Once used, you can switch to toolkit + grenade kit for support. You also have another utility left as you like, so you can go for Revive elixir or other support.
My question is : Is it too strong?
Beware, I don’t think it’s a duel build. But as a support DPSers, it’s really really effective.
I don’t want to be like those DD Elem, bs thief and Shatter mesmer that act like : “hey it’s balanced, I don’t see ay issue”. I don’t feel one shotting people is good for the game, even if it’s by my favorite class.
I fear that this build might send the fury of Anet upon us. Everytime we had a descend build, we got nerfed. And with this one being “cheesy”, I fear it will be bad for us.
Also, I feel like I HAVE to be a 100 nade to be effective in WvW/PvP. It’s also useful in pve for the vuln stacking.
Each time I try another build, I feel gimped. What If I can do low damage with more survivality, when I can one shot people.
Personally, I would’nt mind a little tone down, if at the same thing they buff our other build. Like they buffed our toolkit, it used to be among our worse kit. Now I can’t run without it.
TL;DR : Buff our weak build, and balance our 100 nades build.
What’s your opinion about it?

Kaineng is the FOTM transfer server right now.
WM and some other guild decided to do a project with it, like TA did with HoN. Mass transfer for easy win.
I don’t know if Kaineng will be tier 1 quality, but after seeing post like this, they will have the biggest ego for sure.

I tried using combo to make a invis heavy build with engineer combo field to troll people in WvW, but he doesn’t work really well.
I used bomb 4 and flame turret to make the smoke field. Flame turret is really bad tho, if it doesn’t create the smoke field if it doesn’t attack anyone, with the short range it’s average.
I will have to retry it someday.

I always try to play the less populated class.
I chose Female Norm Engineer because in a beta survey showed that female norm engineer were the least “predicted” played profession.
I also like different mecanism, as we have our kit and our turret, even tho turret was a big let down.
The only reason why I didn’t switch to Elem was because of them being FotM and engineer still being the less played, as I would prefer a higher skill cap class that can do everything if played well.

From my experience, the AoE damage it does that is not “inside” the ennemy isn’t that great, but maybe I should build more glassy!
Don’t mistake me, I think it’s a good build (outshining any other build we have, yes even DS build), but I don’t think it cut it. In the current meta, we are pitted again BS thief, GS Warrior and others.

I personnaly think the 100 nade build is overestimated
The combo itself is really easy to miss/evade/block/mitigate.
Any good opponent can see when you try to 100nade them. You have to surprise them, to get the full damage.
Thief can do the same, tho single target damage, but with better mobility and easier.
Empathetic is right, even Powerr used it in competitive game, and he said it was good, but subpart for the META. Saying engineer were prolly the worse profession for pvp right now.

My Engineer is my less efficient profession in PvE, but still not a burden to the group.
With skills, you can outshine most other prefession, but you have to play 110% to beat their 80% :P.
Personally, I have bad gear for PvE, some kind of glassy cannnon i use for WvW.
But if you traits for kit refinement, you can be pretty useful for your team.
Specced for grenade, you can stack 20-25 vuln on the ennemy, and stack at least 10-12 bleed. Kit refinement + Elixir gun + Elixir gun toolbelt = 3 AoE regen for your team.
But BEWARE!!
Grenade heavy build will leave you with A LOT OF PAIN in your finger. Sometime I switch to rifle only because I’m tired of spamming my grenade.
Oh the joy of fighting under water, where you don’t have to spam grenade anymore!

I experienced it first hand with my friends this week, and I had a hard time explaining them Thief killing them in 3 hit would become fun. :P

I don’t know if you tried the build in competitive tPvP, but it doesn’t work as well as you make it sound.
To pull this combo, you have to take your ennemy by surprise. Any good pvpers will know when you try to pull off this combo. You have to be inside the ennemy.
The usual net shot + jump shot and 100 nade combo won’t take you far, as most people learned how to block it.
And you always get 17k combo? Man I’m lucky if I can get a 10k combo. I’m not full glass, I’m +power +prec +vitality.
Most combo will miss because the ennemy moved a bit to the side, because they blocked, because your jump shot failed, because of lag. There are so many reason this combo can miss. A bit to the side, and 4-5 of your 6 grenade form kit refinament are out.
Now you missed your super combo? Good luck with the rest of the fight And good luck using this vs any descent Bunker Guardian/Elem.
the 100 nade combo do a similar job then BS thief in tpvp, but is subpart. The BS thief will do the same damage or better, a lot easier, a lot harder to counter, and with better mobility.
Like someone said in another thread, it’s not that engineer is bad, it’s that our builds are all outshined by another class. (Condi P/P vs Necro, Bunker vs Guardian, Burst vs Thief/Warrior).

I think you misread my topic. Or that might be my wording.
It’s not about me, as I have been playing for a long time, and I didn’t give up yet.
It’s about trying to bring new player.
You can ask hardcore player to get over it, but casual player that could make this game an e-sport by watching it, don’t always have the will for this.
It can be hard, but fun at the same time. But when my friends were getting insta spiked by thief they couldn’t even see, they don’t have fun, so they are not willing to continu.
sPvP is good for hardcore, but if we want more, I think it would be good to have more casual player!

Obviously, the thread title isn’t serious.
The reason I put this title is I just tried during the week end to bring new player in spvp.
Since they were new to spvp, I brang them in hotjoin(can’t team up with them but at least we are not stomped by premade like in tournament.)
Sadly, we ran into a team with 5 thief. 5 freaking thief:)
See, I can handle half of them with my limited playing skills, but my friends couldn’t do anything.
They were insta jibbed. Each time they went into a fight, they were pitted vs an invisible ennemy that would kill them in few hits. They hated it, so I changed server. Startin with so many thief was a bit rought for them. I made them change their gear to be more tanky.
Now we get into another server, half players are thief and mesmer. Oh well, it’s hot join after all.
They get destroyed again. One of the thief was really really good, and he was using the combo quickness/BS+mug and my friends were dead before the thief even render.
And that’s how they stopped playing spvp, the same day they started.
I think there is a reason why we have such a low base player in spvp. For new player, the first step is really hard.
You go in hot join, and prolly half the players are going to be thief.
When they die to a guardian, at least they can fight a bit, learn from them, use their skill.
But being insta gibbed by a thief? Zero fun in that. Never seeing your ennemy? Zero fun.
Most hardcore player don’t mind that, but not everyone is like that.
I have a really hard time bringing friend in spvp because of cheesy build that kill others in 1 sec.
I don’t have a solution, as I think thief are fairly balanced in tPvP.
Could this game have any kind of newb server so new players can learn? and HAVE FUN! A server without thief would be even better.

AoE type builds generally take less skill to play, I think this change will help PvP immensely. People need to overcome and adapt rather than wish for things not to change.

Say that to my grenade kit, which I have to presume my ennemy moving patern to make it hit.
Say that to my bomb, wich take 1 sec to explod after I set them at my feet.
Say that to my flamethrower, which will miss 50% if someone decide to move. Say that to number 2 from FT, that require me to time and measure my shot so that it will only hit at 600 range, not too close and not too far, for average damage.
Now I will ask you : How hard is it to land your HeartSeeker? Oh really it’s a leaping skill? Oh It does immense damage? And it even AUTOTARGET? Wow, you have it hard man.

Id say the zerg deserves to get kitten bunched in the nads-every one of them, for being so bad. No really-That was bad. It is unfathomable how absoluty bad that was.
You do know that two of those player are among the bets player in the game? They are forming one of the best sPvP team around.
I agree the zerg was bad.
But the Elem were prolly the best players you could find, and they used combo, called healing, called shot.
This is a proof of skill > zerg.

Nothing personal, but I have seen you post and post and post about nerfing everything excedpt your Ranger. You even said in one post that you thought AoE were ok other then Elem and Mesmer. Now you say it’s an issue.
Your crusade are again Mesmer and Elem DD, please don’t push this nerf as it will only make thief better, and nerf engineer.
DD Elem aren’t OP because of their damage. They take quit some time to kill someone. They are strong because they have acces to everything on the same build. Nothing to do with AoE damage.

With the pet attack buffed (debugged), Hunter aren’t that subpart anymore. Traps ranger and Tank ranger have a really good potential in tPvP.
But I agree they are boring as hells. Especially using Bow. Autoattack all day long.

I would agree with you, if we could switch to efficient single target skills. Sadly, we don’t have much.
I tried to make a single damage burst build out of Engineer, and the only thing that come close to this are static charge build. But SD is kind of an AoE, and rifle skills are mostly AoE.
We have too few option for single target dps, same thing with Elem.
I don’t know if you follow the tPvP scene, but AoE doesn’t seems to be an issue.
Like I explained in another post :
DD Elem : AoE user, but are mostly feared because of everything else (CC, condition removal, mobility, boons, healing, downed state).
BS thief : Single target burst
Bunker Guardian : Bunker, they are there because they survive, not because they do AoE damage.
Warrior : HB Warrior, single target dpser.
Mesmer : Shatter got some small AoE, but they are mostly single target dpser. They won’t AoE bombs like an Engineer. And they are top tier because because of their Elite and Portal.
Trap Hunter : Good exemple of AoE damage. Nobody cry about them, they are balanced, even maybe a bit underpowered.
Necromancer : Another AoE, really good in their support/AoE role. But nobody are whinning about them ether.
Engineer : Not much room in tPvP, maybe with the new 100 nades.
Most whinning are about Thief, Guardian, Mesmer portal and DD Elem. I didn’t see any whinning about AoE damage?

What we have in TPvP:
Burst Thief : Single Target
HB warrior : Main dps is from Single target, not AoE.
Guardian bunker : They aren’t about damage.
DD SD Elem : AoE. But most people agree that there power can from having acces to everything (CC,Heal, Condition removal, Mobility, boons) then the Damage.
Necro : This one is AoE damage.
Trap Ranger : Aoe Damage, mostly for CC.
Mesmer : The AoE is really small, their damage is mostly hiting one player. Anyway, they are there because htye are efficient, but mostly because of portal. Nothing to do with AoE.
Engineer : Not much representation.
I don’t see how it makes AoE class OP? More than half the classes don’t rely on AoE to be efficient in TPvP. One of the most AoE centric class (Engineer) are nearly missing from tournament.
You know why AoE is efficient in DE and WvW? Because AoE are, by logic, better in mass fights. WvW is mass vs mass, DE is full of wave of mobs. That’s the perfect situation for AoE to be effective. That’s how AoE are supose to be used. If you nerf them for WvW, you nerf them even more in small scale fights.

Aoe are efficient in WvW, but it’s mass vs mass fights. That’s the kind of situation that AoE should be efficient. If you nerf them, then they will be average in group fight, and useless in small fights. Why would you use them?
And one of the most cried about class in WvW isn’t even AoE. BS thief are a pain in WvW, and they will get buffed?
I doubt doing this will make the game better, as the time it take for Anet to balance thing, if they nerf our AoE, we are going ot be bad for a long time. When was the last time that Anet did a patch and you were :“Oh man great patch now my engineer feel so much better”.
Personnaly, other then toolkit buff, it didn’t happen. Grenade nerf, bomb nerf, overall nerf. No debug.

The issue in your argument, is that some class have VERY limited acces to single damage damage. You know why engineer use AoE to finish people? Because otherwise they woulkd be auto attacking.

If you remove AoE, it will become even more a Zerg fest. AoE Boon and buff will get stronger, as are AoE heal. People won’t fear AoE, so they will stack on each other and abuse the 5 target limit.

We have been nerfed many time since release for no reason, since we are still not part of the top tier classes.
Last nerf of 30% damage to our grenade to make up for sigil was over the board.
I can’t be optimist about it, since each time I read the patch note, I have been utterly disappointed.
If they nerf AoE damage, our class will be hit really hard, since 80% of our skills are AoE.

For those that don’t know, here are some informations :
The 5 man team in this video, is from the [MAN] guild, which is right now prolly the top Paid tPvp guild in US. They aren’t a random bunch, they are the bests skilled players you can find around.
They are fighting a low tier zerg, and I’m part of low tier and I know our zerg can be pretty bad.
This is simply a case of skills vs numbers, and I’m happy that skills win.
If at least 5 players from the zerg would have charged, the group would have been wiper. But they didn’t, they were affraid of dying and charging alone.
Nerf the AoE, and the same thing will still happen. It’s not about damage, it’s about tactics and teamwork. Using positionning and taking advantage of zerg mindless.
If they ever nerf AoE damagew, AoE centric class (Necro, Engineer, Elemental(tho they are really strong already)) will get hit really hard. 80% of our skills are AoE, we can’t just say “Hey I will switch to single target dps for this mob”, because we don’t have this option. I can’t just auto attack and use my elexir gun.
I’m not looking forward to this change.

Just take Engineer, Necromancer, Elementalist.
That will nerf them really hard. It’s not lik they have multiple option, they HAVE to use AoE, they can’t just auto attack.

I got a say I’m not really happy with the announcement of the nerf to AoE abilities.
I’m no pro, I’m still learning the game and fighting my way up. I played every class, but overall 80% of my play time have been on Necromancer and Engineer.
Playing my engineer right now, if this nerf ever occur, I fear even more for y place in competitive scene.
Engineer are already the least represented class in Paid, we might be more popular since Powerr made public the 100 nades build, but still we don’t see us often.
Most people Agree that engineer are among the weakest in the sPvP meta.
Sadly, our AoE damage represent abvout 80% of the damage we can output. Most of our abilities are AoE!
Grenade, Bomb, Flamethrower, Pistol, Rifle abilities, Mines and I don’t know if they will consider Static discharge as an AoE.
We are left with Toolkit auto attack and prybar, Rifle auto attack(piercing?AoE?), turret (ahaha), Pistol poison dart if untraited, Elixir Gun? (aha).
We HAVE to rely on our AoE damage, it’s not like we have the choice! I would love to have a sniper kit, but we don’t.
Anet say people use AoE damage over single target dps even when they are fighting a single person. Yeah right, what do you want me to do then? Use my Elixir Gun? How Am I supose to focus on single target damage?
I know I shouldn’t debate about it too much before even knowing what’s it’s gonna be, but I assume the worse.
Last time they “balanced” our grenade over having sigil, they reduced the damage by 30%. I don’t want it to happen again.

Seriously, I’m maining an engineer, and alting a necromancer. Both AoE heavy class.
My engineer grenade just got damage nerfed for 30%, and now you will nerf it even more?
Engineer DON’T have single target damage skills! 75% of their skill are AoE! If they nerf it, engineer are gone even further in the balance.
And it’s only gonna buff 100b warrior and bs thief.

I’m too lazy to look for the build, but it’s easy to replicate.
The base is to get 30 points in explosif, like take the burn on crit, 10% explosion and the GM trait for grenade.
Now you also need kit refinement. A lot of people go 30 points in tools, so you have reduced cooldown on toolbelt skill, and bigger crit. Also, some people use Static discharge so using your toolbelt also throw a bolt of static. The rest are at your choice.
I use 30/0/0/10/30 with the 10 points for Elexirs S at 25% hp to counter burst.
Now this is the trickier part. Land the combo.
The combo isn’t as easy as thief.
You have to throw your Grenade barrage (Grenade kit toolbelt ability) and switch grenade at the same time. Kit refinement will cast another grenade barrage (tho a bit weaker, I think it doesn’t get the 2 extra grenade from traits) on switch. So you basicaly cast two grenade barrage at the same time. It can one shot some class, especially with burn and static discharge.
The trick is, if you don’t do it right, the grenade barrage will spread and do less damage. So you have to do it INSIDE the ennemy.
A way to achieve that is to use net shot, immobilizing someone. Then you jump shot right on their head, and as you are landing, you do your combo. All your grenade will explode right away, before spreading. It will do max damage.
This is tricky to do if you don’t take people by surprise. Most skilled player will use their defensive cooldown when you try to do it, because they know what you are up too.
The 100 nades is a lot more than that, but this is the basic.

Rob : I feel the pain for NSP. It’s sad when those kind of thing happen. But I think we all know why it’s happening. The annoucement of the end of free transfer.
Seems like Kaineng will be the “Transfer of the month” server until the 28th.
Fair weather player and guild want to transfert to a winning server, and sadly since the top tier are full, they will choose Kaineng because of the recent mass transfer from Top tier guild.
I loved Kaineng and I still think they are an awesome server, well the original Kaineng. But after the 28th, I’m pretty sure it won’t be the same server anymore.
I think Anet did a mistake by annoucing the end of free server, people will all fluctuate on winning server.
And for the fight club, I don’t think I will be there. Bad timing for me. But anyway, I still have bad gear with my engineer in WvW, for any duel just join my in sPvP

If you were seeing immune, were you using a condition build? Might have been the Automated Response that kicked in.
At 25% hp, become immune to condition. If you hit him with condition, it will show immune, but will still do direct damage. Tho with pistol gun it won’t be much.
Since you say it popped immune, I would look for that!

Necro being the second worse? Where did you get that?
I used to think that, until I started playing spvp and learned from great necromancer videos. Even if they have a simple mecanism (DS), necromancer are really hard to play and to be efficient. You have a lot of positionning, DS dancing, and kitting.
But once you learn it good, they are the king of Ranged AoE damage/Condition. Epidemic is just crazy. I wish I had it on my engineer.
But serousily, most Top tPvP team have a necromancer in their team. Don’t underestimated necromancer. They have a lot of bug yeah, but they still do very well!
Engineer isn’t the best class for PvE, but you can still dish a good amount of damage. Since you are using grenade, you can stack a lot of vulnerability on ennemies for your team. Kit refinement with the 100 nade combat do a really good burst of around 10k-14k damage.
Don’t just spawm #1 grenade, use every one of them, especially #2 that does much direct damage and add a Bleed or fire don’t remember. Then switch to rifle and continu your damager with blunderbuss and jump shot.
