Class unbalance will kill Raids

… or raids will kill the community.

Engineers is far better at condi damage then anything in the game and Druid is too much superior to Ventari, Guardian, Ele or any other healer in the game.
So basically everyone in raid will look for Scrapper and Druid, and kick almost everything else.

What I think woould be correct is to redesign raids to make other classes useful, or make the other classes at least comparable to scrapper and druid in terms of condi damage and healing.

Difference in condi damage between Engi and Ranger isn’t huge, but yes condi needs looked at (bleeds need to go up, burns go down as the professions hurting focus on bleeds much more)

Healing, well lets be honest, druid’s going to get nerfed, this was the first beta pass.

Scrapper is not what Engis will be playing, it’ll be Condi Engi most likely with Pistols, bombs, nades, and FT explosive/firearm/tools. If you’re looking for damage it’s not scrapper, that’s your more defensive/cc build.

Fun fact. Engi puts so much bleed out that you see 9k tics sustained. If it goes up then it’s even worse. No need to touch condi values, just condi output on classes. Even on trait for condi dedicated builds.
Not factoring burn damage however. Engi is a monster with bleed out of everything and burning on top of it.

Has anyone even played a Raid yet? To my knowledge it didn’t work during the Beta weekend. It is ludicrous to think the Raids aren’t being designed with all the elite specializations in mind.

It worked for short periods in the first 3 days and also the whole last (extended) day.

How can Ventari compete with Druid?

in Revenant

Kidel.2057

Projectile reflection does nothing in raid, and raid is everything that matters in pve.

It’s not just Ventari, but every healer in the game. What they said it’s “burst heal” through celestial avatar, is in fact a sustained burst heal since you can stay in celestial avatar 87% of the time and blindly spam heals on the group without any care.

Short cds, no locks, no energy involved. Just spam heals like no tomorrow.

Druid will make any other healing spec useless.
It should be nerfed and other specs buffed. Not flat, but based on healing power. Healing power must be useful.

I’d like Ventari and druid to suck at 0 healing power and do as good as druid does now at 1500 healing power.

Other condi damage classes should be as effective as Scrapper, otherwise every group will run 4-5 scrappers to kill red guardian fast.

Similar problem with Druid and healers. Druid has the best sustained and burst heal in the game.

Other healing specs should be as effective as druid, or at least come close to it. Atm having 1 druid and 9 dps is the best way to close the first raid encounter. Any different healer would simply require using 2 of them, since they have nowhere the healing druid has.

Ald please don’t give me the “druid is just burst, you need celestial avatar”, since it takes 2 seconds flat to fully load it with staff #1 and #2.

How can Ventari compete with Druid?

in Revenant

Posted by: Kidel.2057

Kidel.2057

First of all, Revenant is my favourite class and by far the best class, but this has to be addressed before HoT for the sake of the game, not of the Revenant.

I could understand ventari/guardian being so harder and so inferior if Celestial Avatar took like 20+ seconds to load up, but lol, it took me 3 seconds solo in celestial gear. What the heck.

You can basically stay in celestial avatar all the time and crap all over every other healer classes in the game.

In FULL ascended clericgear, my ventari revenant was so inferior to my exotic celestial Druid, there is no comparison. In healing in boons and in damage, since if I heal I can’t do damage on Revenant, but druid always has the pet.
Boons? The amount of boons that Druid can give is huge. To give boons with herald you need to swap out of ventari and STOP HEALING (or use F2…), while Druid can just use warhorn and spirits, even the elite on for aoe raise and the small one for might and protection, permanent AND while still healing. Basically the only things you can give with Ventari are regen in a very small area and protection if you trait heal skill but only for a small amount of time and in a small area around you.

Also ventari/guardain forces you to stay melee range on close to your allies to heal, while druid can do it ranged and with no risk.

So it’s better for boons, easier to use, better for healing and IT’S NOT BURST. It’s sustained burst.

Constructive feedback after my little rant:

1. increase the amount of time it takes to build up celestial avatar. Come on, 3 seconds, it should be AT LEAST 10 minumum. Hard capped if needed (easy mode: cooldown on celestial avatar skill).
2. reduce the ridiculous amount of daze and heal that it does. Lunar Impact is one of the most op skills in the game, even untraited.
3. Increase ventari healing by 50% to make up for the clunkiness. Or reduce the clunkiness speeding up its movement and reducing #6 aftercast.
4. healing fragments expire too quickly and are unreliable. They’re either hard to notice or annoying in a raid fight.

900k heal. 3 seconds to load Celestial Avatar. I give you that Druid is not good for dungeons (top kek), but in almost every other game type it’s OP.

No other healer is nearly close to it. So either nerf Druid or buff the others, since I don’t want a game where there is only 1 healer and it’s required. Raids being my top worry here.

Yes, druid heals are stronger and more easily applied. But they have little group support outside of direct healing and condition removal.

I’d gladly take a cleric guardian over any druid, even though the druid still has stronger heals.

What? Not at all. You’re only looking at druid stuff. You can still have warhorn, signets and spirits and apply perma protection and might, and also AOE revive like warriors do. Warhorn can apply might, swiftness, fury and regen if traited.

Sono nice points here. Coming from a Guardian too and I’m completely ignoring Jalis now after trying to use him for days. We’ve been asking for some love for him since BW1 and he indeed received it, but not nearly enough.

I’m now using Glint+Shiro/Ventari/Mallyx for tanking, since it’s just better. Glint’s heal is 100 times stronger then Jalis heal, and if you want you can have perma regen and protection. I agree that the buff of RotD os stronger, but the duration is too short and the energy cost is too high (50 for basically nothing most of the time).

Shield however is more then enough to tank with any gear/build. Condi are a bit of an issue since you only have legendswap for them, but a dedicated Ele healer can cleanse them while sleeping.

Quick fixes:

- Shared Empowerment needs a different mechanic. Only works every 3s on Facets (they pulse syncronized). Icd based on different boons or 3 might on 3s cooldown.
- Knockback on Unyelding Anguish
- Double torment on EtD
- Pulsing AoE for vengeful hammers with physical hammers only being graphical and indestructible
- Inspiring Reinforcement should apply 1 stability on cast
- Rite should be at least 6s and 40 energy. No point in using it over Crystal Hybernation or Glint’s elite
- Forced Engagement could have a faster projectile, can be strifed
- Ventari heal should be increased to catch up with Druid. Ventari is way harder to use and Druid can sustain Cele form for 90% of the time.

Sword AA and Sword 3 are WAY to powerfull for how easy they are used, especially Sword 3 seems like a direct upgrade to some other burst skills, most noteable, Mesmer sword 2. Thats just way over the top.

Except we have CD and Energy cost, while mesmers have higher damage and no energy management involved.
1 Unrelenting Assault means giving up to 1 utility or elite skill most of the time.

However I don’t think she retconned on reddit, I think she just explained better what she meant. The initial tweet must have been a comunication mistake.

If we had no glow out of combat, but had some flashy hand-animation when we drew our weapons based on the legend we’re in before our hands settle into the current glow, maybe that’d be a bit better?

I mean the Guardians Aegis doesn’t show when weapons aren’t drawn, and I think it’d feel pretty bamf to witness my hands burst into flame whenever I open on some fool.

But I want the glow out of combat… I won’t be happy.

in Revenant

Kidel.2057

you are again avoiding all my point.
You say “we lost all the condis that we self inflict and that the opponent throws at us” and I think that’s clear to everyone. What you don’t get is that in any group content you get all those condi cleansed. We experienced it, you maybe didn’t but we did. Since players going against one another was never intended, that mechanic got removed.

I agree on the point that we lost condi damage/utility and cc. This still can be fixed, but the [self condi-> condi copy] mechanic is not going to return. Thank god.

So please understand why they made those changes and stop asking for a step back, but instead think about a step forward.

Some of us will never view that as a valid reason for the Mallyx changes for two reasons:

1. The self-condi manipulation playstyle has been playing well in this game for years in the form of corruption necromancers. The old Mallyx was like an improved version of it.

2. The self-condi application rate far exceeded what others classes can remove. In PvE, at least two conditions could be maintained on yourself at any given moment despite cleanses. As for sPvP, conditions are tossed around like candy… the Mallyx skills were always reaching their max potential since every build in the game can apply at least one or two conditions.

1. Does it? Is anybody using corruption necromancer in lv50 fractal or raid? It also may work because necro can convert condis in boons, while in Mallyx you can only spam pain absorb to stack resistance and avoid exploding. Plus necro TRANSFERS conditions and multiple stacks, we just copy them and 1 stack. No benefit from multiple stacks, no cleanse. 2h cripple, gg.

2. It really doesn’t. Not even now without Druids. Good luck using the old Mallyx on Red Guardian with a Druid spamming cleansing seeds around you on every action. Druid is just 1 class, any healer class will cleanse tons of condi, and you can’t kick the healer because you want to do condi damage.
If you’ve been in any organized Raid attempt, druids and Ventari revs are there spamming heals on the boss to keep up the dps health. This process also cleanse conditions.

There is an existing thread about the squad UI.
Anyway some of the cons of this design.
1. Useless face picture of the characters.
2. Does not scale past 15 or 20 characters.
3. Poor in realising if players are down or dead.
4. No idea of subgroups.

1. Face can be already disabled in options. The small bars are taken from there. The same option can be used to make them even smaller. It’s just an example.
2. It’s designed for Raids. You make a squad, you enter Raid and the UI changes.
3. Why? Works like the current party ui. Red bar = down, empty bar = dead. What’s hard to realize?
4. In raid you only have your party and the rest of the squad. No subgroup.

Ascended Gear to be Required for Raids

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Kidel.2057

Kidel.2057

I want to come in and give some input concerning the difference between exotic and ascended. As Colin has come out and corrected that Ascended rarity is recommended, but not required.

Now, a lot of misinformation have been floating around concerning the increase in stats of ascended equipment in comparison to exotic. 5%, 10% ? I would like give an approximate difference here.

First of all, I don’t deny that looking at the pieces of armor or weapons or accessories pieces alone, the stat increase of the piece itself is yes around 5-10% difference and for weapon strength ~5% increase, and defense from armor is also about ~5% increase.

What cause the misconception is, that a 10% increase in the piece stat does not equate in 10% increase of overall stats and even more, does not equate to 10% increase in DPS. It is similarly misunderstood for effective health. So here is a spreadsheet I made a while ago showing the comparison in EP (which often scale to direct DPS since it’s a multiplier … condi damage aside, I haven’t calculated it). I don’t claim it to be 100% accurate because traits and stuffs are not taken into account. It’s just a general comparison

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eNgeDoVO9aIqqqYHYTC_IjV0H3eOm7ZL1WNour02cE0/edit#gid=340962016

If you read it, you can see several points that I’ll note here:

1. The infusion difference compare no a non infused character is about 1.98% (Those 3000+ powerful blood yo)

2. The difference between ascended+trinket+weapon to full ascended non infused is about 1.43%. So yes the 400g+ armor set gives you 1.45% increase in dps compare to one without.

3. If you have full ascended and DON’T use food, you’re 2.91% behind one using food. This is where it’s interesting. Compare this to the nonascended armor and use food, you’re actually worse off.

4. The ascended weapon contribute to 5% difference so it’s noted on the 5th column of a 8.71% dps loss if you don’t have an ascended weapon.

5. Other columns are other stats, soldier, valk, celes, etc.

I hope you enjoy the info.

So, what’s the conclusion? I don’t think the 1.43% dps loss is something to fret about. If you really worry, then you should just concentrate on getting ascended trinket (which actually are cheaper than exotic) and the ascended weapons.

Thanks for the math.

Also some runes give a 20% damage boost compared to others.
1 mistake can wipe out 80% of your hp or more
1 miss can lower your dps by 10%
1 stack of might is more then 1% dps
Class disparity in stats can reach up to 50%
Class unbalance can reach up to 20% in dps alone
Build diparity is even bigger then class disparity. Some builds are simply wrong by math.
Some classes give unique boons (like banners/spirits) that stack on top of regular boons. Again, more disparity and actually bigger then ascended vs exotic. And we already know that “no particular class is required, no wait time”.

Yet Red Guardian only takes condi damage and some classes have 50% less condi damage compared to others.

So saying that ascended is required while ignoring everything else doesn’t really make sense.

This game is skill based. Whoever says that ascended+exo is not enough and you need full ascended doesn’t have a very big understanding of the game. I have a full ascended/legendary set, and I don’t really feel much difference compare to my other exotic set with a different build.

Kidel.2057

I didn’t really like the design of the squad UI. 10 vertical bars in a box, also redundant with the bars in your party and very very confusing.

This is a simple suggestion for a redesign of the interface.
EDIT: this is designed for raid. You make a squad, you enter raid and the UI changes.
As the screen shows, there is a waterfall of 10 small bars for each of your members. If that mamber is also in your party the bar gets the bigger face icon.

Pros:

  • No huge square box
  • No vertical bars
  • Your party bars are displayed once and not twice
  • 1 place to look at, not 2
  • Priority to your main group

Also by default the current squad UI is small, but if you want to actually see stuff (and not just profession icons, that are great but not very useful) you have to manually enlarge it all the time.

This solution actually takes less space for prople who want to see the bars and not just the icons.

To be completely honest, i don’t believe for a second that ascended will be REQUIRED for raids. It’s 5% superior to exotics. I’d take a decent player in exos over a scrub in full pink any day.

5% with a full set. If you have weapon+trinkets, then the difference is trivial. 1 small mistake or class disparity or build diparity is way heavier.

Using rune of the dolyak vs rune of strength makes a much huge impact then +2% damage (that is less then 1 stack of might).

The raid is balanced around full ascended gear, but good groups will be able to do it in yellow gear.

This game is skill based and I like it this way.

Posted 2, the first going well, the second one where probably is the issue. Made many of them, and the problem is always on those 2 nodes (when there is a problem).

I’m running a test now with -diag parameter on GW2.exe

Huge packed loss

Today I’m experiencing huge lag. I usually have around 36ms ping towards gw2 servers, but today I’m at 2000ms ping average. Tested with ping command on cmd and half of the packets don’t come back.
Tested my connection speed and it’s fine. I’m only having this problem on gw2 and today.

It makes even impossible to run around Dry Top since I get rubberbanded everywhere.

For Shiro and Ventari we were given big teaser picture the week of their announcement. The same as the channeling graphic. I think you can find them on the wiki.

Yeah, I pointed this out too when the trait itself was announced. Another solution may be giving it an independent cd for every different boon (so 3s cd for protection, 3s cd for fury and so on). This way if you have 3 active facets you get 3 might.

Yeah, I was going to unlock Mallyx for last in order to get Herald with no Hero Point farming. Changed my mind now. Jalis is last. Eventually.

Roy said that Druid is burst healing and Ventari is sustained, how when Celestial Avatar has no cooldown and can be loaded in less then 3 seconds? Druid makes healer Rev/Ele/Guardian something to laugh at. They’ll never be meta.

I really wish we could see allies HP without having to mouse over them, it would help a lot.

This x100.

We really need some health bars!

Party UI and Squad UI (trololol) has bars. However Colin hates bars and so do I. You can just healspam non stop on Druid and if you are experienced you know when and where it’s needed.
Seripusly you can stay in cele avatar all the time and just spam everything. That skill has no cd and takes 3s to fully load.

[BWE3] Revenant Feedback Thread

in Revenant

Kidel.2057

I said it in other threads, but I’ll try to keep all the feedback here.

First of all, great job devs, I love Revenant, but there are still some issues (from BW1)

Mallyx has low damage, Ventari is so inferior to Druid there is no point in using it, Jalis is just useless.

Basically our only legends will be Shiro and Glint, except those time when we are forced to use Mallyx (like in the first raid).

  • Mallyx:
This legend is basically mandatory for condi damage and boon ripping in the first raid. However I tested it in full sinister and the condition damage was like 1/3 of Elementalist. I like the new mechanic, but we lost a lot of CC and condi output.
Not much work here. Knockback on leap skill instead of chill (or both?) and way more damage on the elite, or the torment trait Roy talked about. Atm torment is bad in pve at least and we do way less condi damage in pvp.
  • Jalis:
The elite… a breakstun for 50 energy and a buff so short it can’t be appreciated. Had a hard time using that in the first raid for tanking blue lightning aoe, it was over before it ended and we took the big damage. So protection from Glint and Crystal Hybernation is just better.
I’m sure it will becore relevant in later raids, but that’s an elite for 50 energy, should last longer or cost 30. Jalis has too many energy consuming skills.
Road should give stability at start.
And I don’t even want to talk about hammers and the chain anymore. I’ll just say that chain is slow and hammers should not be a projectile. Leave them as a “ghostly” animation but make pulsing damage please.
  • Ventari:
    Sigh.
Amazing legend but useless in the future meta if it’s so much inferior to Druid. In a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is full zerker warrior, in terms of healing Ventari is 5, Druid is 11. There is almost no point in using it.
It’s harder to use then Druid, heals less, does less boons (unless you give up healing to go into Dragon stance). Roy said that Druid is burst healing and Ventari is sustained, how when Celestial Avatar has no cooldown and can be loaded in less then 3 seconds? Druid makes healer Rev/Ele/Guardian something to laugh at. They’ll never be meta.

Glint and Shiro are fine, perfect, amazing. Those 2 are THE reason to pick Revenant atm.
Too bad still no underwater Glint. And we still have our greatest enemies: verdant brink’s small bridges, walls and not flat terrain!

jalis elite… 50 energy… for 5s of a boon. Ok a strong boon, but 5s is not enough to appreciate it imo. And yes, the wiki says 40, but it’s 50 again, just checked.

Mallyx has low damage, Ventari is so inferior to Druid there is no point in using it, Jalis is just useless.

Basically our only legends will be Shiro and Glint, except those time when we are forced to use Mallyx (like in the first raid).

I agree, they should have way less hp, since they’re not hard, but just a tutorial.

Not complaining about the actual boss, but “trash” mobs should die faster.

you are again avoiding all my point.
