I think that the s\d thief could play much better than he did in the video.
But this is only a 1v1 situation and in all honesty, s\d thieves specs are not the best against an heavy condition spamming build. Not saying they are the worst spec but surely there are some better build for countering a necro in a fair 1v1 duel.
I still think s\d thief is the best for a tournment situation tho, it’s sustained damage coupled with its mobility makes him realy hard to focus in a team fight situation but realy Dangerous if not focused at all.
I main thief since beta and I respect you and your team Sensotix but I think that 1v1 Necro vs s\d thief is not fair and not common to see in tournment., at least if you don’t leave the necro alone defending 1 node, that I don’t think so
In my opinion if I only wanted to show a duel between a condition Necro vs thief, probably I would choose an heavy condition removal thief spec, relying on stealth in that case, that it’s not the best choice for tPvP anyway.

This is not a raging topic btw:
I joined a solo Q just before the small patch tonight, I won with my team in a fair 5v5 but then the server went down and my victory didn’t count..
then I downloaded the patch and when I logged in again, the match seems to start again..
the problem was that now I was the only one logged in my team and of course I was 3v1 cos my teammate didn’t join again or even didn’t login again
at least I managed to kill all of them multiple time and I got my Revenge :P
on a serious note: I don’t care about the score nor the leaderboard, but it still sucks losing like this. Please A-Net do not do it again next time
so you don’t know anything about D\P thieves in the current meta situation, but still you’re arguing that they are fine?

I am not scared to admit that the current status of Thieves in tPvP in this current condition\CC meta, and in this conquest mode, is realy bad.
When I read topic about how to balance perma stealth thief in this subform (sPvP), I realy don’t know what to say.
Speccing for an heavy stealth thief in tPvP, means losing lot of potential damage and losing the ability of contest nodes or even put pressure on someone that is not totally specced glass cannon.
Now we are going to see nerfed the only realy available weapon set for this class.
A-NET 3 months ago, when there was that unkillable bunker meta, where guardians and eles were able to run with full buffed specs, you said that Thieves and Warriors were going to get some Boon hate as a counter to those spec, it was a smart decision for balancing that meta, but people started to complain like always, cos it is easier to complain than to adapt, and now you are going to do a step back once again).
I don’t care cos I have learnt to adapt patch after patch, but I would like to see you guys believe more in your choices.
Now I predict that the next complain about thieves will be the “perma blind” spec. Let’s see if in 1 or 2 months it will be nerfed too without any logic.

Prove me I’m wrong, show me a video of you fighting against this condition meta with that build and still survive. You don’t need to kill your opponent but just to survive and I will be fine.
and the problem with Warrior is that you will need lot of mobility and blind for survive to their CC spam. If you fail once, you’re dead. Their sustained damage is crazy, a thief certainly cannot fight face to face against a warrior, a thief will need mobility of course. But guess what? while the thief “dance” around trying to avoid all the stuns, the warrior will regen to full life while still contesting the node.
But of course this is fine, cos warriors were UP for so long time that now it’s their time to shine.

Personal experience, I was testing different classes and builds today against a friend of mine using a common warrior build with healing signet and I lost 3 times in a raw.
After that I asked him to just swap the healing signet while the rest of the build stayed the same. Guess who won?
Surely this doesn’t prove anything, it was just my little daily experience.. but having a signet that PASSIVELY heals for something like 407 hp\s without any effort, is something I would not realy define “viable”
Just revert healing signet buff and the warrior will be in a good place. Berserker stance can stay like it is now then.
lol Offensive, Defensive and Balanced are all the same build… and even one of the most used ones.. nothing new to see realy.

ok let’s compare 1 of the most used rune set nowadays in sPvP: Lyssa Runes
Surely this set have a very good synergy with low CD elites, and they seem so OP right now cos we are in an heavy condition meta. But I think those runes could be considered ok cos at least you need to actively use an elite.
It’s not the same as Travellers that can have constant passive boost at movement speed without any effort.
I can see why many Thieves, Guardian and Mesmers might want to see this rune implemented in sPvP. It’s the easiest way.
Saying that this runes are not broken is lying and if A-Net decided to not implement this Runes in sPvP, there’s a reason.
The problem is that one of the most popular Warrior spec at the moment requires 30 points in the defense Trait, that means more toughtnes and more healing.
Now let’s look to one of the most popular spec for the thief that requires 30 point in Shadow Arts: more toughtnes and healing for the thief as well.
Both specs should be balanced, they should have good survivability since they are not specced full glass cannon, and certainly they are balanced.
The difference between the two is that the thief requires to go in & out of stealth for regenerating some health, while the warrior doesn’t need to do anything at all.
His healing signet will heal him for 407 hp\sec and during that time he can focus on attacking his foes.
Another crappy thing is that, while the thief is stealthed regenerating his life, the warrior is capping the base, granting to his team 1 point for every second the thief is stealthed, and regenerating life as well as if that was not enough.
another point, the damage output:
Both those spec lack of a real burst dmg, but the warrior hammer damage is far better than the thief sword dmg. I have considred both those 2 wepons cos they both cleave, granting Warrior and Thief some sort of AoE auto attack.
The last point is the crowd control:
of course the warrior is far better that the thief, and stunning\knocking down or back\dazing you opponent, means that you’re not taking dmg.
Personally I don’t get why people ask some much for a nerf at thief evasion, our only way for mitigating dmg, and no one consider the Warrior CC spam much at least on the same level of our dodging spam.
reverting the revealed debuff won’t change anything in s\tPvP for us.
We need some buff on our out of stealth abilities. Going heavy stealth in tPvP means losing every base and do not bring any support to the team.
In WvW instead we already have a 3sec revealed and Thieves are in a much better place there. We don’t need anything more for pve\WvW.
I have not said otherwise. There are other broken runes in sPvP that push the game towards a passive gameplay. This is not a reason for putting another set of runes with a permanent passive effect.
I don’t get why people first want a more skilled game and then ask for such runes to be implemented.
Let’s ask to nerf every passive rune effect instead.

This rune set is simply too good. It should just be removed from the game, like every other passive run speed buff (signet or trait). Not included in sPvP.

It’s thanks to this one golden rule,this is a big one guys.
In fact, it is so big that if you fully grasp the idea behind it, you can abuse it to make the Thief lose and be a hindrance to his whole team.
So pay attention guys here it is: “Every second that the thief is abusing Stealth, is a second he will not attack or capture nodes.
In other words, he’s not helping his team AT ALL, while occupying a Player slot in their team”.
In PVP, a stealthed thief is a dead thief (well, up to the moment he la da that nasty Backstab combo on you).
If it was WvW, if the Thief stealthed away from you it sucks because you get no lootbag/exp and he continues with his camp slaughter rampage.
However, if a Thief stealths away from you in PVP, it works to your advantage!
Every second that the thief is hidden and thinking “oh, he won’t see this one coming, I’m gonna get you…” Nd almost every thief thinks like that, because this is what we like about being a thief the mos . It is our joy, you are buying time for your team, the node ticks more points and your team has the upper hand.
So next time you almost kill a thief and he stealths away and comes back 20 seconds later with full hp and tries to assault your node again, remember you just WON your team 20 points!
That’s just how the game works.
So you see, Stealth is counter-productive, a true hidden killer.
Stealth is only useful when used tactically to gain the upper hand in a fight,or save your life,but it is still killing time in every sense of the word.So you want to know how to counter any stealth Thief?
First, make sure your build has a wY to negate our burst.
For anwarrior, it could be Shield Stance, for a Necro its Death Shroud.
Other than that,here’s a list of our most hated tricks:
1)Conditions (Guess what? They tick when we’re stealthed too! Not every thief has Shadows Embrace)
2)Immobolize + spamming attacks
3)CC
4)AoE
5)push/pull/knockback out of a refuge for a sweet free kill!Last word of advice inwould give you would be, pay attention when your health drops below 50%…a hidden thief might be a second away from his dance of death with you.

The skills philosophy should be “Few but good”. There should be less aoe, less control, but they should be determinant on the flow of the fight, something that letting it land or interrupting it would make the difference, wasting it or not should make the difference.
Many skills shouldnt be AoE at all, and those who are should have clear animations like warrior and eles aoe, they should have long Cds and at that point they can also be strong.
This is where this game should focus. I don’t think it’s too late, nor impossible to achieve. The game still has a solid base from where to begin.
I don’t think we should propose too many changes right now.
A-Net is so slow and unwilling at changing many things at once.
If we realy want their attention we should make viable proposal only on few things\traits or weapon skills or utilities.
I too think that we have so many useless and old traits that should be changed\fixed someway.
I hope they will mix the effects on 2 or 3 useless traits together, making 1 trait in line with other usefull traits

if you realy cannot kill a thieves 6v1, well it’s a l2p issue.
every daze, stun, interrupt can easily kill a thief. If you are 6 men, do not try to dps all together or the thief will troll you forever. Try instead to interrupt him with 3 of you while the other 3 keep on dpssing him.
Come on I have never lost on a thief in a 2v1 situation even, in a 6v1 situation I usually don’t fight at all cos it’s too easy
thieves need buffs in tPvP not nerf.
They can be annoying in the right hands of course, but they cannot hold or defend a point, and since the game is won by holding points they need buffs.
they don’t provide much support to the team, if not for some blind stomping and some daze to prevent stomp, and even in this case against every good team running almost perma stability they are useless.
They can harrass sure, but they usually don’t have the dps needed for Killing many of the fotm builds in a 1v1 situation. Heck even on my warrior I can easily kill Spirit Rangers, Necro and HgH engi, I have serious issues on my thief
their main source of survivability comes from evasion not stealth, and even in that case they are terribly weak to condition dmg.
If they hide for survive, they are not providing any support to their team, they don’t dps, they don’t contest points.
if they stay outside of stealth, or they evade or they are dead.
They lack stability skills, protection, invulnerability like every other class has instead
Their only stun comes from an elite skill, while every other class can use stability, protection and stuns with weapon skills.
Seriously, stealth is so underpowered right now in tPvP and since this is the pvp forum and not WvW I think it should be buffed in someway and not nerfed
Realy I main a thief and a Warrior and I feel more usefull to my team on my warrior.

I’ll be short:
I don’t like much the Solo que right now cos it is full of flaws. So many times you end up in a 4vs5 and it’s not funny at all. For this reason I prefer to join solo in the team Arena cos I don’t mind facing strong premades that can actually kick my butt and from which I can “steal” some good tactics.
Also sometimes I like to play with one or two friends of mine.
But this new solo que system seems to penalize who doesn’t have a full team but still want to play with his friends.
As I said I don’t mind facing good premades, if there are not many people joining in the team Arena right now, it’s logic that we will be matched against high ranked teams sometimes.
What I don’t get it, it’s why if we join as a duo, we get sometimes other 3 solo que or at best another due que and a solo que?
So my suggestion\conclusion would be:
Why notmatch together in the same team Duo and Three men que everytime?
Why not put a solo Que that choose to join Team Arena with another 4 men Team?
I know that Queues will be longer in this way but at least we could have better mixed team and not everyone will be force to join with a full 5 men Team.

Of course this is not what I was suggesting\talking about and this is not what Commanders should be.
I know that we have the option to \join Commander Name, but this is not realy what a raid should be, and realy no one use this option cos there is not realy a benefit from joining a squad. You don’t even recognize your own squad members.
A Raid should be:
- 30 people splitted in 6 party of 5 people, all belongingto the same raid.
- People in your raid should be recognizable by having different Names color and dots color on the minimap
- Commaner tag should be hidden for people outside the raid, at the moment everyone can follow the same tag, whether it is in the squad or not.
-Commander should have option and tools for coordinate every single “mini” party in their raid and a private chat between Commanders could be also usefull
-Pugs should be given better option to create their own parties and enjoy the wvw scene even without a commander tag visible on the map.

After one year of playing, I still don’t get why we can’t have guild raids.
Maybe I missed the official answer on this matter in the past and I would like to have a clarification.
Why Commanders cannot set their own 30 men raids?
Don’t you think that having only 30men raids instead of a big 100 men blob that follow just one blue icon on the map will greatly reduce the zerg mentality?
Commander Tag should be visible only by people in the raid and Commanders should have their own private chat to coordinate Attacks with other Commanders.
People outside raids cannot see any commander tag, but they should also have better tools for creating their own parties of 5 people. I mean an in game and simple to use LFG tool for newcomers.
In the current state of WvW, people don’t want to make parties with unknowns because they can easily follow the commander tag and farm glory, kill and exp. Who realy needs a party?
That is wrong.
This is a mmo, we should be encouraged to create new parties and socialize.
Commanders of course should have the option to make their tag visible when they want to add pugs to join their raid, if they have free spots., for filling that spot.
I think this isn’t a very big change that requires to modify completely the WvW gameplay and it could be done in a relative short time and then tried for a month and see if it works.
My opinion is it will tone down zergs and will encourage relationship and coordination.

well I have answered that there is plenty of ways to counter stealth, every class has some.
I have over 1300 hours spent on my thief and I can counter it with every other class I play, and when I have been beaten I don’t complain, I just look for my mistakes. People nowadays think they are all pros and cannot accept a defeat.
The real problem on this forum is that 11 months after the release there are still people that do not undertand how to counter thieves and it’s not a thief’s fault if they complain all day long.

Take stealth for example. You are talking about nerfing (whining to nerf stealth at least). Most topics about OPnes of stealth I saw was about fact that it can not be countered. There’s no need to nerf stealth as it is, just give some tools to deal with it to well… someone. At the moment no one have any proper tools to do that. it’s too easy to come here and make false statements ( 8k BS and perma stealth thief don’t go together mate), or just scream for unjustified nerfs on an already nerfed class (of course talking about tPvP not WvW), without looking at the matter from the thief point of view.
Thieves cannot contest while in stealth, they are not like engis that can easily decap points even if they don’t kill the bunker, or immortal 1v1 BM rangers.
A perma stealth thief is not a glass cannon thief and even if the build might seem OP in an 1v1 situation, that kind of build takes too long for killing anyone that is not specced glass, and in a tourney situation that is just a waste of time during which the enemy team still make points holding the base.
If you raise up your damage a bit, then your survivability will drop down drastically as a thief and even then you will need support for killing everyone not specced as a glass cannon.
have you ever wonder why the most common spec in tourneys is S\D? not because of stealth, but because it is the only spec that can give to the thief some survivability (with dodges) without relying heavily on stealth and stealth hp regen.
if a party of 5 heavy stealther d\p thieves meets a party of 5 bunker guardians, try to guess who will make more points capping and holding bases for the Whole match while those thieves try to land their bs and then stealth again for survive.

I overall agree on the last part, every class should have an equal chance to be grabbed in a team composition, but since the only game mode we still have is conquest&hold points and since some classes have much better bunker specs than Others, you won’t ever see equality of treatment between classes.
To me it seems just like all those Guardians just want to press 1 button and stay safe, without dodging, without moving, without doing anything while they cannot see their target.

I’ll start asking things too so I can just enter stealth and be safe without any kind of effort:
If realy Aegis, like it is in the current state, would ever be a counter to stealth:
-I want thieves to be invulnerable while in stealth
-I want those freaking channelled skills to stop following the thieves while in stealth
-I want the revealed debuff to be towned down to 3 secs again in pvp
-I want to constest point in sPvP even when stealthed
and I could go over and over with my requests..
or I can just play my class like it is now and learn to adapt to every situation I encounter instead of calling for nerfs everytime someone outclass me.

Also it is a long time I don’t see an 8k BS dmg from a thief in tPvP, where almost everyone is specced for survive. And it is not a glass cannon thief I have to worry about when facing the enemy team in tPvP.
Change Aegis so that it only lasts 3 secs when activated and put a 4 seconds cooldown on it after every succesfull block and we can start discussing about a “reveal” debuff change.

Cloak and Dasgger should not crit anymore like Mug’s current state, also it should apply vulnerability on the thief. Nerf it!!!!

Personally I hope A-Net won’t nerf Necro so we can still going on killing people and having fun like we always did and the forum will be a peaceful place for a while
Sadly I do agree, necro’s at the moment are very overtop and the testament to this is the fact that every team has taken it upon themselves to run a necro.
I know certain people believe that this is just a temporary thing, but fact is necro damage and utility is insane at the moment that they by far outclass all the other professions.A lot of people have chosen to compare necro to the old hgh engie, but to tbh there is no real comparison necro’s are far superior in very single way, the cc poison and damage reduction through weakness, that they offer a team is indispensable.
Please don’t deceive yourselves by saying that necro isn’t over the top, fact is the meta will be dominated by necro’s and the more time you give it the more people will optimise their role and understand how to play around them.
I believe a lot of more experienced necro players then myself believe the same thing.Regardless I hope that Arena-net does tone necro’s down, but also keep them viable at the same time, its been great seeing one of the lost professions in tpvp again.
Necros got clear animations, they’re predictable and their big hit skills got long CD, they’ve got no stealth, they can’t spam grenades on a point applying all possible conditions, stun/daze you to death like engies can, they can’t summon an insta-win elite like mesmer/engies ( moa form-supply crate), they are not close to unkillable like mesmers/engies.. Necros are OP? When did they become OP?
A couple dodges, a stun breaker and burst them down, some I win and some I lose, but the fight is completely fair and fun.Fighting a necro is nothing like facing a kittening invisible [censored] hitting like a truck, kiting away while invisible ( mesmer-thief) and it’s nothing like facing a condition spammer like engy with their over the top elite which add even more sauce to the meal

I agree with Xeph, Necro is a bit over the top at the moment, I think Arena Net will fix it very soon, I just hope they won’t screw the class totally again.
I don’t main a Necro but I am glad to see this class in tPvP again and my team composition got 1 Necro now, so fix it but don’t make it underdog again
I don’t like having more rng..
I like Basilisk venom and I know how to use it properly at the right time, I don’t like if it procs random at times when I don’t expect it to proc.
Some of our venoms maybe need some love and rework but adding an rng factor is not the way to fix it
I would like to see removed all passive speed buffs as well and making swiftness buff to 25% increased speed
In a team fight it is worthless. Outside 1v1, it is worthless. In any situation, it doesn’t even approach the utility of thief stealth.
explain me how is the Thief Stealth better than the Mesmer Stealth in a Team Fight?
I would say that they are both strong in a 1v1 situation, but regarding team fight the Mesmer’s Stealth is much better than Thief ones..
or Are you saying that Shadow Refuge and Blinding Powder are better than Veil and Mass Invisibility when it comes to Team Fight?
