Reclaiming Orr?

To your Point 1: They haven’t even ‘tried to fix it’ let alone failed to. They haven’t touched it because of the issue of story progression.

To your Point 2: It’s been stated that ArenaNet will not do phasing of zones. They will not have an “uncleansed Orr” and a “cleansed Orr” for two reasons: 1) it separates playerbases, 2) makes the Living World concept pointless.

Is it Time for a Royal Wedding?

in Lore

Posted by: Konig Des Todes.2086

Konig Des Todes.2086

It’s stated in the personal story (lvl 30 human) that Logan and Jennah cannot be “officially” together because regardless of his stature, Logan is not nobility. Their love is real and mutual, so there’s no reason for her to spurn him out of feelings and there’s no reason for her to go after others except for the whole “avoid the wrath/propaganda of the Ministry” (aka why she cannot date/marry Logan). But even if she chooses the political soothing route of marrying Caudecus (a widower and probably old enough to be her father by the looks of it, given that Demni is about Jennah’s age in appearance), that doesn’t avoid the biggest issue: the corrupt Ministry regaining power.

She needs to eliminate the power players of the Ministery (which was only able to get so much power that they became corrupt due to Jennah’s youth when her father died) before she can marry, otherwise Caudecus will use whomever she marries as a weapon for why she’s not fit for leadership.

Dredge and books conundrum

in Lore

Posted by: Konig Des Todes.2086

Dredge don’t lack eyes. It’s rather that they have very poor sight. They’re not outright poor, but think of it as having a heavy eyeglass perscription and going around without glasses.

On an aside, dredge writting is said to be blocky and akin to Old Dwarven writing.

@zwierz: They’re immune to blind because they don’t rely on eyesight but hearing. Hence one of the Frostgorge Sound meta bosses going “A deaf dredge can do better than that!”

Consumption of Zhaitan

in Lore

Posted by: Konig Des Todes.2086

Konig Des Todes.2086

Glitching through the map like that doesn’t count as lore, but a limitation of game mechanics of avoiding the extra coding of forcing the corpse’s removal (since Zhaitan and the dragon champions don’t function like actual NPCs, but as interactive animated objects (and non-destructible at that). The Iron Forgeman also functions this way, no doubt.

Your favourite Elder Dragon

That is why I said greed, not hunger. The desire to obtain everything Kralkatorrik is not (or rather, corrupting it), and destroying that he cannot obtain (or corrupt) can be seen in the Elder Dragons’ version of consuming (remember, they don’t consume in the traditional sense – even magic isn’t digested or the like; they take magic in, and exude it, either as corruptive (when awake) or as it was (when asleep)).

It is without a doubt that each one has a different method, and if the personality and actions of their minions hold, or how they corrupt, are anything to go by then they also hold different personalities too. And I would say Kralkatorrik seeks perfection (one of the official definitions for perfection is to “be everything” – though rather paradoxical in of itself, would fit Kralkatorrik’s mentality seen in EoD perfectly).

But for onlookers, the exact wording is thus:

Snaff stared at his reflection in the compound eye of the beast-stared so long that he passed through the reflection and found himself on the other side…
Within the dragon’s mind.
It was like standing in the eye of a cyclone. All around, a great storm raged, tearing down the heavens and churning up the sands and whirling all in primordial chaos. Tortured coils of cloud mixed with dissolving seas of silt. The winds scoured away rock and rill, tree and blade, flesh and bone – and tossed them all in a crystalline tempest.
All things were fuel to that storm.
Everything was a feast to Kralkatorrik.
How does one fight a hurricane?
Snaff suddenly knew. [snip a bunch of unrelated stuff]
The center of every vortex is a great emptiness-a hollow longing. The storm tries to fill the emptiness, but the more it hungers, the deeper the emptiness becomes.
And Kralkatorrik’s hunger was insatiable.
To draw the dragon, Snaff had to become the eye of the storm – to be what Kralkatorrik was not.
Where the dragon was fury, Snaff had to become bliss.
Where the dragon was rage, Snaff had to be delight.
Where the dragon was ancient and bloodthirsty and voracious, Snaff had to be new and altruistic and quite content, thank you very much.

Rest carries on there, Snaff focusing on thoughts opposite of Kralkatorrik’s, thus Kralkatorrik seeking to consume/corrupt him – and failing that, to destroy him.

One can take this to be a multitude of things, really.

Kindly Krait

in Lore

Posted by: Konig Des Todes.2086

Konig Des Todes.2086

As far as I know, all NPCs do treat each and every krait as a subject for genocide. Every NPC I can recall all treat krait as “kill on sight”. Only sylvari don’t for the young in the hopes that they’ll be different. But as Cadeyrn says, they don’t – this actually is one of the starting points of the Nightmare Court, who’d kill the krait young to prevent them from growing into the inevitable threats in the future.

So yeah, krait = grounds for genocide. It’s just that every group who has the forces and firepower to attempt such have bigger issues (internal political schisms, wars on their doorsteps, Elder Dragons), so no one bothers.

And I just don’t think the devs will ever make friendly krait, because:

The krait have always been an unapologetically evil race. While we take pains in many instances to provide two sides to any story and to show that even evil races, cultures, and characters have good reasons for their actions, the krait were designed to be straightforwardly “black hat.”

It’s possible for this to change, of course, but I wouldn’t expect it.

Honestly though, I’ve seen theories where the naga from Factions were what you’re describing – good (cousin race of) krait.

Forgotten leave Tyria?

in Lore

Posted by: Konig Des Todes.2086

Konig Des Todes.2086

Hmmm, I’m not sure how you got that first bit of the Forgotten going to the Realm of Torment after Nightfall, as there was a sizeable population there for centuries before Nightfall (and during).

As we can best understand, the Forgotten population was at some point split into two – those who remained in the Crystal Desert (having all moved there in 174 AE) as Glint’s protectors, and those who lived in the Realm of Torment as Abaddon’s wardens.

Many, if not most or all, of the Forgotten in the Crystal Desert were killed by the player character and other heroes (Devona and co.) during Prophecies (3 years prior to Nightfall). We held absolutely no hint or indication at their population numbers afterwards – or even if they resurrected themselves afterward (possible but unproven). All we know is that there’s been no mention of them since, not even during Edge of Destiny at Glint’s lair.

After Abaddon’s fall, those in the Realm of Torment claimed that their duty has ended and they were free to go elsewhere, though we know some remained behind to take out Mallyx. Like those of the desert, we hold no indication of what they did after Mallyx’s defeat.

Timeline Confusion

Never seen that plaque, but by ArenaNet’s timeline syncing, the year is 1327 AE. It would only be 1328 if they dropped the syncing… however, it should also be noted that Scarlet’s stated to have been a threat for a year in-universely, rather than 2 (as she entered being a threat in 1326 AE, for certain).

Though there is the possibility that it is canonically still alive and will be for another year by the calendar syncing function.

Wheelock Rifle; My Unobtainable Love

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Konig Des Todes.2086

While I like how I have the option to play through GW1 the idea of playing a game I don’t want to for the sole purpose of helping the game I do want to play for a whole month sounds horrible.

I’m not saying GW1 is bad, I’ve heard nothing but good things about it, but a “few months” is something that I do not have. If HoM weapon skins ever touched the Gem Store I’d gladly drop the $$$ for this single beautiful rifle.

He was saying a month for 30 points (all HoM items but not titles) – though if you’re focusing on the points, I think that’s a bit high. For 14 points, you can easily do it within a week if you focus solely on the HoM points (though I would advise against that, as then you won’t enjoy the game – I would suggest just buying it and playing through it as you would any other game; it is enjoyable and wouldn’t be a waste of money). Even faster if you can get someone to help you out (especially if you go with Proph+EN).

HoM skins are meant to be exclusive to GW1 players. It’s ArenaNets award for those who play through both games. So they should never go into the gemstore.

We don’t know that was a druid in the trailer, to be honest. It’s hard to differentiate between a treant and a druid, since they hold the same appearance. The difference is that druids were Krytan humans who became treant-like.

Sylvari have a connection to mosshearts as they often tame mosshearts to be their pack carriers. Interestingly, there’s also events around Pinesouls with sylvari trying to protect said Pinesouls.

No one questioned the authenticity of Rytlock’s sword being Sohothin – we’ve known that was the case for quite some time, since devs stated that Rytlock wields Sohothin well before release.

Also, it isn’t a “random blacksmith” but a trusted friend of Eir’s – so likely Beigarth, the most renown (and “best”) norn blacksmith. The dude who reinvented Deldrimor Steel.

While in GW1 they looked like any other Fiery Dragon Sword, in GW2 they have unique models, I believe. Rytlock’s sword looks like the original GW1 model while the Fiery Dragon Swords are more detailed and rough; Magdaer has two versions, the one wielded by Adelbern look uses the Jormag’s Breath model (or something very similar to such), while the physical Magdaer looking WAY different – looking like a Dragon’s Deep FDS-styled weapon (which I wish that model of Magdaer was available “Breath of the Dragon’s Deep” or “Zhaitan’s Breath” or something :I).

What is the Lore of the Legendaries?

in Lore

Posted by: Konig Des Todes.2086

Konig Des Todes.2086

Legendaries hold no lore. What Bellyboomer put is just speculative. We can only guess at themes and relations. The best we can argue about is Flameseeker Prophecies, the book on the shield holding a New Krytan translation of Meerak the Shouter’s lines in post-Searing. The greatswords also have a strong hint of lore, as the Risen High Priest wields them. Scarlet had Quip when assaulting the Jubille and only then, and given the jester appearance may be tied to DR somehow.

Frostfang is likely tied to Jormag.
Incinerator and Predator are likely tied to charr.
Kraitkin is likely tied to krait.
The spear is likely tied to Risen.
Quip, Frenzy, Meterologic and the Minstrel are likely tied to humans.
Moot, Howler, and Bifrost are likely tied to norn.

But we have nothing solid other than appearance themes.

Portals to the underworld

in Lore

Posted by: Konig Des Todes.2086

Konig Des Todes.2086

We didn’t “have” to, actually.

When we enter the Underworld via statue of Grenth, there’s no reason to go into the Realm of Torment. However, though we, the players, do not enter the Realm of Torment, it is easily accessible for souls and demons. When we enter the Realm of Torment, it is because we want to go there directly, not via the Underworld – and because Abaddon/Kormir opened a direct route into the Realm of Torment.

Also: Realm of Torment is only said to be connected, not within, the Underworld. The Fissure of Woe is similarly implied to be connected (and not within) the Underworld.

My favorite and whom I’m looking forward to? Jormag by far. When he woke up he toppled icebergs (kodan sanctuaries) and shattered the largest mountain range there is. He’s the only Elder Dragon to try to go into the Mists (even with Svanir himself and the Spirit World Retreat skill – the Spirit World, or Spirit Realm, is the afterlife, which is in the Mists). And his corruption appearance just hits my sphere of interest.

Then I’d say Kralkatorrik. Then the DSD, but that mainly because I want to see more of the largos and krait lore.

3) What do you think the Toxic Krait division is? But until then, there was never a need to make different views. They all ruled absolutely, and were raised believing the words they gave, only changing it as they needed.
4) We got the blog post which gives more than most.

One of the Priory members near the Heart NPC explain this via reading a journal of the necromancer who opened the portals – the journal stating that she cannot enter them for some reason, but cannot close them either as it got closer to night, where the journal cuts off (implying something came through and killed the necromancer).

Krait are fanatic to the very core. They were designed as the “one inconsolable race” and the lore given to support this is that the race’s young are effectively brainwashed from birth to follow the commands of the Oratuss as undefiable truths. Anything the Oratuss says, goes. And defying the Oratuss is no different than hanging a cardboard sign around you saying “dear krait, please kill me.” And their hatcheries and young are guarded heavily to prevent them from falling out of their hands and teachings.

Chances are, the Toxic Krait that remain – if any – would be the only defiant krait. But those are still evil, as they still follow the same gods, just differently.

Old map anomaly?

There really wouldn’t be a reason to withhold a map that was finished. If they did have them finished, then they would have released them instead of Southsun Cove (made from scratch, didn’t even have a hint on the world map or any other map). So it’s rather unlikely that they have them completed or anywhere remotely close to done so that making a brand new but smaller map would be less work than finishing the incomplete map.

Having been on the test krewe for GW1, I know a bit about how they work – not much perhaps but a bit – and they’ve always been of the stance of “if it can be fixed/finished feasibly, they’ll do so and release it”.

  1. They already did in an interview, I forgot where, in which it was said that the ending of Season 2 is set in stone, but season 2 will overall have an effect determined by player actions more than season 1, and we will learn who E is before season 2 ends (and there was more, I am sure).
  2. As Riot said, they don’t do E3.
  3. I doubt this. If they do go a different route for China, then that story content will still be made for US/EU players – except some lore aspects changed (as China’s lore is rather different, due to having to remove certain elements like for example, Caithe and Faolain weren’t lovers in China’s version). It would also be far too time consuming for such a limited scope – again, why make something exclusively for one group, if the other group is fine with it? It is more likely that if they were to split their resources, they’d do so between LW and expansions, or (one could only pray for the miracle of) between GW2 and GW1 (GW1 isn’t completely dead yet and new content would bring players back to it I’m sure – not as much now as years ago but still…. I miss GW1 and its story can continue on for a bit longer…).

Taimas, you seem to take the “natural role” and “like nature” in the Elder Dragons’ description to mean “from Tyria.” With the exception of one line by Angel McCoy in the E’Spirits interview, all usage of the “nature” is referring to them being like forces of nature – blizzards, sandstorms, etc. Not that they’re native.

Even Angel’s line, which is just saying that biologically they balance magic in the world by consuming and releasing it, doesn’t say they’re native.

Natural != native

Old map anomaly?

That’s an improper placement. It is the Eye of the North, but apparently an old version. That, or they made a MUCH bigger map than just the EotN building. The land and water is just like the lake that surrounds the Eye of the North in GW1.

Most stand-alone hats, I would expect the witch hat included – should be armors now.

Megaserver = success

I guess the second update was secretly (intentionally or not) adding the megaserver to places other than the HotM.

Or the first update did, and it was unintentional.

2nd Pale Tree - Location?

Still, the tree that was there is a stonewood, which don’t have leaves and looks nothing like the Pale Tree.

And as said, Malyck said his tree is west along a river. And there is no river near Ventai’s Refuge. Doesn’t matter that Ventari lived there. He didn’t have access to the seeds. Ronan did.

Queen Jennah isn't real

@Horst: Thorn isn’t Ascalonian in the least. He’s pure Krytan. Edrick was under the Black Citadel because the box was stolen during its original transport and was eventually shipped to Nolani Academy for research, and was left there in the Academy’s reliquary. This was explained in the short story The Family Business.

The only Ascalonian royalty known to players is Duke Commander Wade Sammuelsson.

The only Krytan royalty known to players is Queen Jennah.

Edrick Thorn is dead so he’s not a viable royalty. :P And he had no (recorded) son.

Though it would be interesting if he got that woman he was supposedly woo’ing by burning villages had his child, and went unknown due to Oswald’s death and Edrick’s striking from official records.

@Kalavier: the exact wording is “The Shining Blade’s oath is to the throne… but it’s very specific. Her oath is to ensure that the royal line continues to rule. I’ve heard rumors that the Shining Blade doesn’t care who sits on the throne, so long as it is a descendant of Salma the Good. They ensure that Kryta and the line of Salma continue. Shining Blade can’t let Kryta fall to Orr…but they can support an alternate heir to the throne.” Said by Tenzin Mora, page 396

Doesn’t seem sinister or evil. Just fanatical to Salma’s lineage (which they’re called earlier) and to prevent another White Mantle situation.

Reclaiming Orr?

Why do people talk about hitting Tequatl’s toenails?

I aim for the eyes with my range stuff. Or go for the hamstring.

Though with Zhaitan, that wouldn’t be possible.

Anyways, I’m hoping that when they want to revisit Orr and the risen, that they add a fifth path to Arah explorable following Calogero the Elder (a scholar who’s with the four we see in Arah explorable during the PS, he focuses on dwarven lore and was excited to go into Arah too… what happened to him!?) to find Zhaitan’s corpse. And at the same time, Anet “stealthly” improves the final fight (and just that) with Arah story.

Talus Chute/ Talus Waterslide

A volcano’s heat can reach a good distance. Remember when the Iceland volcano erupted and the huge ash cloud blocked plane flights for a couple weeks a few weeks back?

Plus, Mount Maelstrom seems to have been made by Primordus (destroyers are highly prevalent there at least), thus meaning that it would have been made by Primordial Fire (as Edge of Destiny novel calls it), which burns through anything.

Plus, it isn’t like the Shiverpeaks were snowed over year long – if it were cold enough for water to freeze like we see in GW1 year long, then plants wouldn’t be able to grow. There had to be a warming up period (read: summer) in which the area got warmer. Most of Prophecies seems to happen in the colder times, while most of GW2’s initial release plot seems to happen during the warmer times (hence why Wayfarer Foothills is warmed – ignoring the industrial city nearby). Based on dialogues, the game began at the end of winter, and the zones progress along with the personal story and dungeon story based on level – with the PS ending before Halloween (when the LW began). So the “stuck in time” period for Timberline Falls and Mount Maelstrom should be the end of summer, logically thinking.

Makes me wonder if they’ll ever create new versions of maps based on the seasons with the LW… that would be awesome.
