Nec is considered as a low skill floor class in a sPvP environment. In 1v1s the skill difference between other classes is reduced, even tho i would say nec is still easier to get good at than most classes. Mastering it is hard tho, but u can say the same from pretty much any other class, so… Theres always room for improvement, but its more given by the combat system than nec itself imo

Druids did this to themselves. Until they change or nerf AFG that cooldown will probably stay regardless how much it will hurt a support druid built to support.

Actually, it’s players, like you, who don’t use counters in your build and come to the forum complaining… meanwhile making videos highlighting how “cool” other professions are in combat.

You complained about “CA abuse with heals and stealth”, yet as rev, you have access to poison heal debuff, aoe skills, reveal… and the burst to back it up… let’s not forget about heavy armor, high hp, double heals, high damage, passive boons, teleport skills to apply melee pressure…

Won’t even talk about the low skill daredevils on the forums whining about Druid immobilize lol, while running continuous stealth use builds built for super crit or condi… or those in spvp complaining that their tank couldn’t kill a Druid, and vice versa, but Druid is obviously op…

I read the forums and see a plethora of noncompetive players who probably graduated from FPS shooter games and can’t handle pvp in an mmo. These same players want the devs to hold their hands instead of improving or changing themselves.

Druid was broken af in pvp, and the patch fixed that. Dunno the state of ranger in wvw now, proly bad except for some lame roam builds, but trying to protect spvp druid prenerf is dumb

Thanks everyone for your replies, I can see that the common trend is that they are high damage high skill ceiling type class. However they have counters which are possible but difficult to work around. I just want to ask whether its better for me to switch to another class thats easier to play. As I mentioned I’m very new to the game and the revenant class seemed like a great looking class but I might be out of my depth, any suggestion for good starter characters?

Warrior is commonly the easiest class to pick up for any gamemode, and they are strong in all of them, so…

Against thieves, u need curses or he has the upper hand. Against mesms, u need to know which one is the clone to start with, if youre struggling with that you will unlikely win, try to focus on what is doing every clone and you’ll spot the mesm easily

So this is my understanding of this thread:

-OP claims to have created the new meta for necros with a team support dependent build in a game about to go solo/duo only.
-hero worshipping ensues.
-“Amazing life force regen” is redefined as taking less than half of possible life force sources.
- A wild power necro appears, and starts advertising axe necro builds.

OP also a LAN Player who had proven his mechanical skills as well as game knowledge and is known at high tier PvP. Sic’em doesn’t work as you can’t tag the thief when you should and the reveal is too short to be useful when the thief is bursting you.

For a 45 seconds CD shout 5 seconds reveal is just absurd. A lot of veterans are asking for a AoE 1 target reveal and reduce CD to 25-30 seconds.

You can even take the damage component out, as the pet is kinda really bad (useless) at targeting something as fast as a thief.

Thieves die to pets, not staff, tho

Hint: mesmers have always beeen good as a dueling class. If a player can’t sustain himself because of a poor amount of condi cleanse then this player shouldn’t try to 1v1 a mesmer but instead rotate accordingly to support his team. And no the ultimate goal of PvP In GW 2 is not to kill players but instead cap points and rotate accordingly. An advice: don’t try to cleanse yourself as soon as you see the first condies being applied, wait for the big burst….Second advice: play the class to learn its weaknesses and strengths.

Winning 1v1s means that you own the node, half of the rotations are based on 1v1 and 2v2 matchups. Mesm having some of the best skills for tfs should make him not as good as it it at side nodes. Tbh mesm could endure some nerfs and still be balanced

I assume OP is talking about the meta condi chrono build that is actually used in PvP tournaments. Not the roaming WvW stealth-camping build that doesn’t exist in any moderate-high level of PvP.

The current meta chrono build was nerfed slightly this patch in two great ways: (1) the signet animation for moa now appears as soon as the mesmer starts casting — this is a gigantic icon above the mesmer’s head; (2) the mesmer now has to face the target when casting moa. These two changes make the moa cast super easy to spot in the midst of combat and easy to dodge, which is really important.

Otherwise, the build is relatively balanced compared to all the other powercreeped meta builds.
- Hardcounters rev and necro.
- Effectively stalemates vs a decent scrapper/druid.
- Beats most warrior builds eventually, but will have to give up the point due to the warrior’s resistance uptime.
- Loses to DH.
- Gets hard-countered by a good +1ing thief, but beats thief in a straight up 1v1 (inc. staff thief once you learn the vault animation).

Druid doesnt win mesm anymore(unless playing some 1v1 counter build), and we still have to see which build will be engies running, so mesm is actually in top 3 at duels easily, which is broken if we take into account that mesm is not even used for 1v1s

I was playing vanilla warrior and i had downed some people in rampage form. yet when i went to greatsword 2 on the down person the isnta rez still happens.

So i have to say this change doesnt really do anything, i had to switch back to beserker form. I still noticed it but i was able to stop non druid/engy classes from insta rezzing. Though many 2 man rez still got people up really fast. I dont know maybe im wrong but i dont know how you balance this with all the AOE damage just flying around.

Forcing two ppl to rezz a third one against one enemy alone seems balanced to me. Anyway, this change is mainly noticeable in tfs

Yup. If you use your stances at 2k health and dont have your “rezz” trait available you will most likely die cause theres a few classes that can go through stances(not all of them tho)

It has nothing to do with power or condi. Usually power builds require more reactions and timing, and condi builds cd management, but either two require both, and the ultimate factor of it being skilled is the build/class mechanic.

Thief is pretty much the same, but other classes have changed, which means thief is better. You are now better at +1, you win revs 1v1, and still gotta test it against druids, but u prly have a fair shot against it. Your cleave is way more valuable in downed bodies cause rip invuln and engi dazes. Warrs will proly be more used as side holders, which makes decapping easier. As for your question specifically, you are better against druids with dp. With staff, you have a good shot in plenty of 1v1s. Necs are harder now tho.

No, unless you missed it in the OP the heal was nerfed on shiro and retribution stab on dodge was nerfed too, I’d imagine invocation rev is still pretty decent although nerfed

Can you explain why you mean by QoL change? Usually QoL means that the game has in some way been made easier to play or more enjoyable, usually with things like bug fixes or miscellaneous changes to the interface. For example, changing the thief’s Shortbow sound effects was a QoL change, although that particular one has become sort of a joke. It’s probably just me but I’m not seeing how the sole nerf to Shiro is a QoL change, especially not for Revs. All it’s done is lower Rev’s self-healing abilities to an unprecedented low.

Imo it was a bug that it didn’t work like other similar skills that had Charges and would be consumed if they were Evaded,blocked or Invulned, I.e Basi Venom. Also Thief Shortbow noise was no QoL it was the strongest buff in the games history, now I can strike terror in my foes as I Infiltrator Away!!!!

“Skill I don’t like gets nerfed, QoL change for me.” That’s not what it means bro, by that logic, nerfing Purification is a QoL change for everyone who doesn’t main DH. QoL means that it’s a positive change for everyone, or at least not a negative for anybody. Balancing the professions =/= Qol.

Stop trying mate, its a QoL change cause it was given dmg, with waaaay less counter than other “charge” skills, as well as healing signet corruption (nec) through dodge was a QoL change even tho it nerfs my main(rev is my alter main btw). It has nothing to do with the fact that I liked or not said skill. U can make it unblockable if you want and feel like rev needs it (not), but immune to blind/dodge? Thats obv bad design, you like it or not.

Condi Heralds weren’t used too much at any part of the game; they were weaker than the power variants. Makes the class unapealing to me, since I found Shiro as legend and staff as weapon extremely boring to play.

I mean: it wouldn’t force me to change my gear, due I already have full ascended viper and power items for both builds, but will make me to stop to play Herald and to return to DH, since is much more flexible in terms of skill selection and you don’t need stability if you have 3 breakstuns, 6 blinds and 12 blocks on demand.

By that, I mean that the nerf isnt directed to condi rev, but power retri, which does better than invo rev against thief/dh heavy teams

Since AF is now on a 15 second CD in PVP, would Staff/Dolyak/Sow/Regen or whatever combination you like, still be mandatory?

I mean, there is no reason to have AF filled faster since you are still stuck with the 15 second gate?

Will non-AF focused builds, like one without staff be viable?

You can swap one of the AF refillers, but staff is still rly strong, so I wouldnt change that one

Why DH Changes were Bad

  • Purification: The cast time of this ability has been increased from 0.5 seconds to 0.75 seconds.
  • Hunter’s Determination: The cooldown of this trait has been increased from 45 seconds to 60 seconds.

So now Purification is ever more susceptible of getting interrupted… ok so this means casting it around 60% HP when we’re getting focused targeted, or using Focus#5, or Virtues’s F3 Stability just to guarantee a successful cast. Regardless which is used, it means we have to waste a very situational utility just to pull off a heal.

  • Looking at other class nerfs, Rev got hit but I don’t think it’s on this level. Everybody virtually plays the same.

Stability & Stun gains in DH treeline is the only reason why our heads are above water in this powercreep meta. I rather they just remove the Aegis & damage proc and give us back our Stability on 45icd.
(passives in this game needs removal entirely but Anet wont do that.)

SoloQ players will still grind their way to Legendary but it’s a huge survival nerf in the proleagues. Last I checked, everyone else’s sustains remains unaltered.

They might as well have reverted the buffed F2 and F3 they made months ago. Anet changes to Purification is working backwards.


You were either a War, Thief, Necro, or Mesmer.

If you were a Rev, Ranger, Engi, then you deserved it. Sorry, but these classes can consistently soft counter Symbol & LB DH builds. There’s no excuses.

Those 3 classes counters us so hard, we were Barely a 5th pick in the pro leagues. Some think we’re not a pick at all.

What other heal in the game has less than a 1s cast that heals for 8k with no healing power? Seriously it should have gotten hit to base healing that heal is kittening absurd. Seriously what other heal heals for that much besides attacking a glint heal? Not only that but it blinds AND dazes (because yes you all have the kittening trait)

Purification was never an issue before and now the heal is more susceptible to interrupts. I fought a Rev who had plenty of time to use Staff#5 while I was casting Purification…how many other heals in the game are incredibly susceptible to interrupts like ours?

I understand that Rank Queue isn’t filled with pro league players. It’s a random kittenfest in there where players don’t know how to focus target appropriately but in the proleagues players will take advantage of this.

Still one of the best heal skills ingame. Guard is one of the best classes at protecting casts, and the heal itself is broken af. Insane healing, and aoe soft and hard CC in a low cd lol. How is this heal more susceptible to get interrupted than other crap heals other classes have as main healing?

Really Terrible Patch

The downstate change will likely heavily affect both Scrappers and Druids. The Celestial Avatar change will hurt Druids tremendously. Those two classes taking hits will make Warrior stronger relative to Reaper, since it has more personal survivability, as well as being strong versus the current strongest support, Tempest. I don’t see Mesmer getting pushed out of the competitive scene unless more people start playing Dragonhunter, but Dragonhunter isn’t weak to begin with. The only glaring issue I see is that Thief really did need some slight buffs. It’s strong in solo queue, and is still strong in competitive play, but it’s too much of a risk for such low pay off. Anyway, look to see what the first couple changes I mentioned do to the meta before you complain.

Isn’t thief going to be a lot better now with the nerf to druid, engie, and retri rev? It has now more cleave potential, an easier +1 to sides and forces revs to play a subpar build. unless meta switches hard to guards/warrs thief is a lot better imo

Oh my god… people and their issues with Flesh Wurm. People STILL say “er me gerd it has such cast time”? Really? Haven’t you learned how to use it already? Flesh Wurm has no cast time.

Misconceptions about wurm (things which are wrong):
1) People kill it all the time
—No one kills it. ESL players, even the top of the top, don’t even attack the wurm. What you need to keep in mind is that the wurm will teleport to you in a 1200 direction towards it. This means you place the wurm before a fight and you can be 100000 miles away from it, but it will still port you in its direction. In other words, the wurm is out of enemy sight.
2) It bugs out all the time
—It bugs out sometimes, but that just takes practice. If you first use the skill, you’ll notice it bug out a lot because you won’t know how it works and what makes it bug. After a while, the skill will work 95% of the time and you’ll know all the safe spots.
3) It takes you the same amount of time to cast the skill as it would take you to walk to the place
-- You need to flip your screen and cast the wurm BACK with the enemy chasing you. He won’t see the wurm behind him. You pop the wurm and bam, you’re 1200 units away from your chaser. Alternatively, pre-cast the wurm before a fight, which you should always, always do.
4) It’s useless as a disengage because everything else teleports to you anyway
—Depends. If a revenant chases you, you need to see which legend he is in. If he’s in Shiro, he may port, but that’s not likely if he needs energy. If you ported away from a Revenant, you can drop marks at your feet. He will port to you and kaboom.
—Thieves can only really catch up fast if they had Steal ready at that exact time. If not, they won’t be able to catch up too quickly and you can throw marks at them while they’re trying to get to you.
—Longbow (but not shield/scepter + sword/focus dragonhunters) have Judge’s Intervention. This is the thing they can catch up to you with, but if they used Judge’s Intervention to burst you in the first place, they won’t have it ready when you port. They could also use sword teleport, but sword’s range is lower than your wurm.

Spectral Walk. Spectral Walk is an amazing kiting tool, especially when used with wurm. Spectral Walk with Spectral Attunement can bring you at a 2000 distance from where you used it, if not more. If you combine it with wurm, you can port 3200 distance. Once again, people don’t see the value of Spectral Walk. I usually use it when I’m seeing that I’m about to get focused (you see several enemies going for you). I start SWalk, use Locust Swarm and use shroud. Jump right into the fight or kite somewhere to lead them on a goose chase. Exit shroud, port back to your original spot which is far from enemies by now, drop staff marks on them while you’re running away even farther.

Personally, I have no problems staying alive as a Reaper or even as a base Necro. The onlyproblem I DO have is the in-sane sustain other classes have, when compared to a Necro. Necro sustain, imo, feels really good but it’s the overpowered sustain of everything else that makes it seem so weak.

You must be superman then because watching pro-league all I saw was the necro being rezzed over and over again. In lower levels of solo play you just die and don’t get rezzed most of the time. Sure if you have an organized team to babysit and rez you over and over again you can have a large effect on the match as a Reaper but to me thats ridiculous lengths to have to go to. But regardless of skill level you will be downed frequently as a necro to deny that and say it doesn’t happen to you all I can say is you are extremely fortunate or lying.

actually the people who won used necro in the reverse. denial from my understanding used a tanky necro to rez everyone else.

Vital persistence is mandatory in every non pve build that wants to play a real class. If you dont want to be a necro, just a bunch of signets that are babysitted literally to help you survive against ranger pets, then you can swap SR. Without SR, the class is not completed, but it may still work in determined situations.

I do not druid game and my ranger using pets as wyverns, still can kill most of the druids do not see how even have classes using the spec elite still crying for failing to kill druid, I think it is lack of training or players pve going for pvp when barely kill the mobs of pve.

Britslback and smokescale is not the least bit op and I can guarantee this because with the nerfs, they are up to no good the way it is

It only destroys BAD necs. Really really noobs no-knowing what i am doing necros.

I fought against a lot of necros you can not pin down with this one time trick. More everyday, when they move from the last season ultimate DPS to something more durable with some cleanses.

Obv im talking about meta build, not what ppl likes to play. Ancient seeds hurts necro rly bad, nothing to do with being good or bad nec, but the build itself (0 condi cleanse, 0 cleave and 0 stab unless u use high cds, and leave you susceptible to even easier focus fire)

only thing that wins mesm 1v1 is dh and menders engi, everything else is an stalemate/ 50/50 duel (warrs, druids, engies more or less) or favourable matches (nec, rev, thief, ele…)

Asura sword animation

So, today I made an asura rev, and I’ve noticed that while standing still, Precision Strike (sword#2) does a perfect loop, but when moving the animation bugs and it just shakes the sword in a weird way. Is this intended?

I have never seen a druid keep a teammate alive under a burst nor have i ever seen a druid survive a 3v1. A 2v1 maybe, depending on the dps the two enemies are packing.

I feeltm that the complaining about druid is mostly a solo q hero issue where people seem to get mad if they can’t solo something and win. Team wise? I find druid balanced.

Druid is the best 1v1 and 2v2, so the king of sides; decent dmg, good support and amazing sustain. Right now druid is overperforming, as it will be nearly unkillable while having a huge impact in the game.

It literally autowins fights vs condi burst sometimes, so it has purpose in WvW.

Well yeah, you can use it of you solo roaming and avoid pretty much every other ally in the map,nullifying its passive. Once team fights happen, its proly going to annoy you more than help

I think their survivablity is fine. I’ve had trouble dropping them on my guardian.

I do love landing a moa on a necro in shroud (with my mesmer) with 10% hp left though. It feels so fun to totally ruin their day.

abusing exploits like this is complete bs btw.

Forcing necros out of shroud with moa is not an exploit.

using moa to completely drain shroud and kill all their minions IS a exploit.

Care to explain how an intended, consistent mechanic qualifies as an exploit? It works like this for all transforms.

He means exploit in the sense that is an unfair mechanic (or he thinks so). He missused the word, but you can kinda get what he meant to say

You’ll see your damage go down by 250%, your survivability go down by 500%, and you won’t have 2 health pools.

You guys are arguing about who is the more bottom of the barrel. Both eles and necros are in a bad place in the current meta.

Im not arguing anything actually, it just amazes me how some ppl structures their “arguments” and wanted to point that out. Tbh imo ele nor necro are in a bad state, they are just stuck in a build that is full of flaws but it works amazingly well when played correctly around it. So they are unfun and poorly designed, but not unbalanced if you know what mean
