If you were a dev working on gw2 for 50+ hrs a week you probably wouldn’t really enjoy spending your free-time playing the game either. Although the devs do seem to have a pretty solid understanding of the current metas. I think its best they base balance around the pro teams gameplay and not the forums, too many people on the forums are not very good at playing the game.

I like this forum cause OP was not claiming any balance change, but upgrading PvP itself

Burning stack intensity

Once again, I did not cross it 4 times. The ring was not even placed until I was about to start the final jump. The edge of the ring overlapped the top of the wall/rail thing, and as I jumped over it (once), I went from 0 stacks of burning to 12. I was watching my health at this point and saw the stacks appear. No skill should be stacking 12 burning in less than a second.

The fact is theres no skill that do it… Maybe ring of fire+drake’s breath+burning speed?

I would even say that the customisation of the avatar’s voices is enough.

So I might thick in the “I cannot move! I’m burning! I feel furious!” options and let the rest stay muted. The part of this feature is implemented in the game but now the character says randomly. I’m sure there are players out there who can track their 6 boons and 4 conditions by a glance but I’m not one of them

This would help a lot against condition builds but also helps the bunkers (I feel energised! I’m protected!) brawlers (I feel mighty! My defences are down!). This could help anybody to track some of their procs and play accordingly without pixel-hunting the screens top and bottom line every split second.

4) Give some sort of buff to the sub. Of course minor but I’m thinking a sizable swiftness or maybe any point they cap is worth 2 for 10 sec. Something to motivate someone to actually be a sub.

I dont think this type of buff is really fair, but maybe the common “win reward” than you have when volunteering in hotjoin could be enough

I just que’d for an unranked match and got put against a team with two mesmers on it.

Last time i was playing gw2 the que’d matches never had double classes.

So wth is this?
Did i have some outstanding luck to never run into this when i was playing before?
Or did Anet remove the team balance in spvp?

Some classes are stronger while other are weaker. This leads to deviation in numbers of players playing class X and make it impossible to balance, because if you got 20 Mesmers : 30 others players queing at same time you can’t avoid this.

The amount of players does not affect the way teams should be balanced though. If there is 30+ mesmers and only 15 of each other class then the mesmers should have to wait longer to join through que’s. Allowing multiple same classes in spvp really screws with the balance.

Why it screws balance?

Some abilities are not balanced for stacking in spvp. The double mesmers for example had an unstoppable focus fire, not only were there upteen million kitten illusions all over 1 person at a time (which is more of a huge annoyance than an issue), they double moa’d, and had a perma cc chain going. Even with stun breaks there was no way to do anything against them. Double classes are sometimes an easy way to make fights a 4 v 5 real quick

Because as said before, some professions are stronger, while some are weaker. Also some professions perform better when you stack them, while other doesn’t bring much when you stack them, so it can screw entire Match.

Imho it would be better if they wouldn’t allow profession stacking (so only 1 of each class max) in sPvP. Also it would help with keeping competitive enviroment more healthy if teams couldn’t stack FOTMs ;-)

And also as you have said before, some professions perform better when stacked, so I dunno why you cannot stack them… And, lets say, why you cannot run a DPS guard and bunker guard? The problem is about stacking builds, not professions

This doesnt have nothing to do with balance issues, even before pre-patch, when mesmers were classified as kitten (still feeling they were the same than now, but with less dmg), you could see double mesmer in your team…

And just for clarity this is common through the que’d matches?
Because i know joining matches through the game browser its common to see multiple same classes.
The que’d matches, which are different from the game browser matches, i’ve never experienced which means i must have been very lucky with every que.

But if this is something that can happen through que’d matchmaking; has anyone brought this up to Anet about it being a huge balance issue?

80% of times you see a double profession in your team, and I only play queue, so…

EDIT: All in all, I cant see the balance issue, even more when you can just switch professions if needed…

Mesmer is designed as a class for which your mitigation of damage is simply not being hit.

Actually same for thief, if you can land a burst on them, they are also as good as dead.
However in team fight, thief is definitely quite sneaky and post great threat to squishy target like mesmer.

So you need to be standing on your toes the moment you see a thief entering a fight. They will always target squishy target first.

For a long time, mesmer has been pretty much thief food. But the recent patch definitely gives mesmer both defensive and offensive tools to counter thief.

Tiips on how to survive a thief assault:
He will definitely attack you after going in stealth in 1v1. Stay close to your clones and count to 2 and dodge. If you are still not attacked yet, use blurred frenzy if you are on sword or be prepared to stun break and phase retreat if on staff.

Try to F3 interrupt their blind powder+heartseeker combo. You can burst them afterwards. Stay close to clones also helps you gain chance to deal shatter damage.
Take the blind on shatter trait, it is really good. If you see thief tryharding hearseeker you. Use F1 or F2 shatter to blind him.

Use terrain to get to place where they can’t instant teleport on you. Against shortbow, no need to try to dodge autoattack, it’s futile. Just try to trade back damage with GS AA /mirrorblade/izerker. Move randomly to avoid being hit by cluster bomb.

Save your mass invis for their shadow refuge. If you don’t have mass invis when they SR’d, go looking for some teammates help. You can also tell if the thief is still around by checking whether you are in combat or out of combat.

Nice post, im just adding few things.. In the situation explained before, use your f4 to gain distortion and avoid dmg after the backstap if you werent unexpeting the opening. Also you can use sword/staff 2 or any other shatter skill for blind or stun (f3), but it is better to save that shatter skills and use just f4, or you can use a stun mantra if you are fast enought to target him and use it, like this you are going to interrupt him 100% sure. You have not bad distortions/teleports, so use them when the thief is likely going to burst you…

Okey, look at the actual forums, you can see a forum above that says necro is unkillable and do a tons of dmg, and he needs to be nerfed, and below that necros suck and anet hates necros QQ QQ QQ… And this with all professions.. Is people not understanding how hilarious all this seems? Everyday a different profession needs a buff/nerf, and always being contradictory with older posts… That said, 80% of QQ arent even justified and the other 20% is just undervalued because the other 80%…

necro has some viable options: the warhorn, with the daze is a nice stomp interrupt. spectral walk with the added life force and return . the signets are now useful if you trait the condition return. death shroud can be trait’d for quickness. so yea , whats your problem?

This was only about how fast professions are and hands down necro is the slowest of them all (not counting revenant since it isnt finished yet).

Guardian is also slow as a turtle, and mesmer, and even ranger cannot get any swiftness so he can only use the gs3 or sword2 chain…

EDIT: Ranger and guardian can get swiftness, of course, but also necro, so all in all they are slow professions .-.

Maybe but necros are slower due the lack of non target-required gap closer.

If you consider it as not broken, compare what it can do with post-patch:
-> Engi;
-> Necro;
-> Ranger.

The same as pre-patch, but with better dps… And this is also applied to mesmer, the unique major change post/pre is the blind when using shatters

Nerf in the eyes of these forums means running something into the ground.

Also when it comes down to class balance, I beleive that there are great builds on all classes. Strategy and rotations (from point to point, not skill rotations) and individual skill and teamfight strategy competence play a much bigger role in determining the outcome of a match than than the builds or classes themselves. Which is why I’m so sick of everyone spouting that necros are garbage tier when they’re very good in the hands of someone who knows the game and his class well.

I love to fight a well played necro. Especially one that has proper DS and utility managent.
But I’m honestly tired of seeing all the nerf this and that because I can’t beat it in a 1v1. Check the profession subforums and there’s enough discussion about how to deal with certain skill like PU on Mesmer that these threads are pointless and will lead to unnecessary nerfs. (We all know necro and Mesmer doesn’t need nerfs)

While I’m true Thief hater, I’ve to disagree. Because:
-> Burst? Thief need to land Backstab (D/P), to do so:
a) Thief has to be stealthed;
b) Thief has to get engaged into melee combat (!!!);
-> Amazing CC? Basilisk? Not even close, because:
a) Requires Thief to attack;
b) Isn’t instant cast from distance.
-> Stealth? Yeah.
-> Teleports? Yeah, both Sword and Shortbow are good (even better I would say) for self mobility, however Mesmer brings unique team teleport (Portal, which can decide games).
-> Invuls? Noooooope.
-> Spammable Blinds? Yeah, but:
a) Thief has to sacrifice Initiative, which leads to damage loss (unlike Shatters);
b) Thief Blinds aren’t insta casts.
-> Boon removal? Yeah, Thief can even Steal boons.

Thief CC is greater than mesmer CC, dont forget pistol 4, panic strike, and shortbow 1 when stealthed, and all of this with lower CDs Also he can bring party support with SR and team-stealth with combos, and if he cannot use any invul, he have all sort of evades.. All of this combined with the fact that thief have an insane roam with sb 5, so he brings a infinte better version of the portal… Agree, your burst have to be on melee range, but you can abuse all your teleports in order to be in melee range the little seconds you need to use your burst

Well, builds are different because in pvp every player plays with his team in order to get objectives done, so you can have builds oriented on teamfights, on holding nodes, on roaming fast for all the map in order to steal enemy nodes or 2v1 ppl, etc…

For thief, as for any other class, you can take a look on metabattle.com where you have some predetermined builds and some tutorials that can help you how to pvp

PvP is now full of mesmers that doesnt know how to play, so first time I entered with my mesmer post-patch yes it seemed pretty strong, but right now 90% of time im having less trouble killing mesmers than pre-patch… That said, a well played mesmer is strong, but I dont think it is broken at all, you just need utilites/skills that can help you avoiding their burst, so think about this when creating your build

the practice button was a noob trap. noobs would click it and go in to a match where rank 80s are kittening around and zerging the kitten out of everything and basically playing conquest wrong in every possible way, and then theyd either quit after getting dragon stomped or come here and complain they were being dragon stomped and then quit. oh, and, the people doing the dragon stomps tell them they suck and they should quit too. is that really the kind of experience you want a new player to have when they first set foot in pvp? no.

That’s a wrong line of reasoning. It never was about practice, it was about having a hotjoin option.

To elaborate on my previous post: personally, I do not have the time to turn PVP matches into a career. I want to do my dailies and get my PVP fix. I do NOT want to bother with voice chat, teaming up or getting into arguments whether I am using the exact meta people think I should be using. I do NOT want to end up in endless shouting matches on who was the biggest fail. I just want to play a few matches and go to work.

I will freely admit hotjoin has/had serious issues, but those were something the developers chose to add (leave matches without penalty? seriously? stupidest idea ever) and which I’d happily do without.

But I do very much want the no-queue option back. At this point, it is pretty much the only thing in GW2 that still holds (a little bit of) my interest.

As said, hotjoin still exists ^^

I personally LOVE staff, no matter what.

I like the idea of dps staff, not only support, but something like skill 4 with a 12s cd, skill 5 with 15s, and evading attacks with skill 5 could definitely make staff a really nice weapon

Sure, let’s start:

1) Revenant has no way to negate being focused. Even with the current support trait lines, you die instantly to focus fire.

2) Everything is super slow and has a big wind-up. Getting a skill off without being interrupted is a miracle. You’re currently forced into builds with stability since you won’t even be able to heal yourself without it.

3) Damage and condi application are way too low. The only way to defeat someone is to put their condis back on them — something that’s very unreliable due to the short range.

4) There’s no synergy between trait lines. With every other class, you can pick any 3 trait lines and they will have synergy. Revenant needs a big rework to create synergy and actual builds.

5) Revenant mobility is also non-existent. Keeping someone in a fight, or running from a fight is just not going to happen. Revenant needs a CC/snare, pull, or more reliable teleport. The only way to follow someone is axe #4 which misses too often.

You’ve basically just described Necro..

At least necro can do tons of dmg, with rev you do the same dmg as a shoutbow with a dps build

I question the honesty of the people who say Necro/Engi/Ranger are bad in this meta. Bunker MM Necro with constant boon strip can win a decent D/D Ele 80% of time. Condi spirit Ranger can own a lot of classes including Mesmer/Ele. People just don’t dare to try weird/unpopular builds, and then complain that other classes suck. or they try to act like victims to get buffed.

I talked about burning guardians and physical Warrior right after the patch landed. At that time, people still complained about how underpowered guardians/warriors are, because they got stuck in the old mindset. They didn’t try burning guardians or rampage. Now everyone complain about burning guard and rampage.

Quit playing the old style Necro/Ranger, and you will see how strong they are. Use your creativity.

What makes The Abjured so unstoppable?

Surprising no one, tonight’s NA matches went from close-ish to completely dominating when The Abjured showed up. What sets them apart from all the other NA’ers?

I still remember the good old times with The Absurd winning against Abjured

a thief vs thief have been always like this, no post-patch, if a CS thief did his opener and you could not react, you were rekt… What you have to do is steal him, or use your stunbreaks+withdraw, and then attack him, it is likely you will do the same amount of dmg than received

That’s not true. It’s not common to get HP from 17k to 3k in less than a second.
Thief can usually survive as long as they get just a little bit more time. I went to dueling server a lot and rarely see thief duel ending up being a one-shot fight.

An old meta thief could easily get a 12k combo in less of a second + procs (against berserker builds), which results in a 15k combo, if you dont avoid the dmg… After, this build isnt going for trickery, which is worts party support (non pvp build) but better doing dmg, so if you cannot react is just a delete as seen. EDIT: In any case, the problem here was the 2 insta-procs of fire and air, and a 4.6k shadow strike seems to much, but what I was saying before, stuff like this isnt post-patch

It’s not your Ranger, it’s all Rangers. Mainly because there very few good Rangers. Most just perch themselves on a hard to reach ledge and pew pew at max range while you are busy fighting their teammates. They won’t even come down to help prevent a cap.

Isn’t that the purpose of Range attacks? Am I supposed to run up to you, and then shoot you at point blank range just so you have a chance to swing your sword at me?

If all you do is range then you are doing it wrong. You bring almost nothing to your team.

Are you one of the players who get mad when you get killed by arrows? Isn’t the purpose of PvP “Player versus Player”? When I kill you, I help my team. Then I stand on the flag circles.

Yes, being ranged and pewpewing everybody can help your team, but when you do this without helping your team to do objecties as stomp/holding, you are not being useful, that’s what is he saying… another example, staff eles, they can be well positioned spamming dps areas into teamfights, and they are helping their team, but if they dont use their support areas or utilities they arent being optimal

But isn’t standing on flag circle and turning it my team’s color useful? Is there something I’m not understanding in this game mode?

Of course is useful, he was talking about staying ranged only

Ele Tornado should be a ground target ability that summons a tornado while still letting them act. Reduce the Duration.

Yea I kinda like this, instead of shapeshifting into it you’ll just ground target it(like meteor/frostfield), and it’ll act like the current skill, but the projectile differ from the attunement you’re in while using it.

Even with incoming revenant stuff it could be a ground targeting ability that could be controlled by tapping where you can it to go as revenant’s ventari skills

The ability to control it will make it have a long cooldown, beside I’m not a fan of GW2 Ai, I mean just look at ranger pets ai. I would prefer it to be a ground target ability with 30/45s cd, which also act as a combo field depending on your attunement when you use it. Kinda sick and tired with ele elite with long kitten cd and not really that good to begin with. All of them are situational.

AI has nothing to do there, you control where the AoE goes. I think that 120s cd and giving to you the capacity to move up and down can be a nice upgrade, I just think an AoE tornado staying there can be good holding points, but useless in a fight situation where you can easily avoid the AoE and throw the cd (the fact is it will never have a 35/40s cd, i can see it with a 90s cd, easily wasted except in a situational scene as all other ele elite skills)

EDIT: I mean, just think about it… An unblockable CC AoE of 15s duration that you can move at will with a 120s cooldown that can easily go into 96 with traits? Sounds awesome to me

Idk, the ai control in this game is clunky. Yes, your suggestion say you can control where it goes, question is how fast will it go there? From my experience with this game ai(ranger pets), even if you sort of “control it” that kitten will go so slow to the target and still need a movement/trigger animation, which when it ends your target can just sidestep to avoid it. From paper your suggestion might be good, but from how Anet work I doubt it’ll even be that good.

I imagine the speed of the aoe will be the same as it is right now when you are transformed…. In any case I hope Anet will solve the problem with ele elite skills ^^

It give you 150 points, not bad, but not worth to focus only on this. A 4v5 is still better than the 150 points of the lord. He is also easy to defend, you can 1v2 if you are on the side of the lord, and even if you can solo it you have to take your time all in all. And you can only kill one lord one time, not like nifhel where you can kill/steal the two bosses every 3 min… I dont think it needs to have health increased, all in all due to the 4v5 situation most of the time the boss is rusehd when you have 350+ points so soloing it will happens 10% of times, and when it happens, I think the risk/reward is correct
