Magic Find is a joke. Total useless garbage stat that takes up the spot of other useful stats. ANet doesn’t want you getting better drops. That screws up the economy. So, even with the max – 367% magic find, you’re going to get maybe 5% better drops than someone with zero.
I have been testing magic find for over a month, and my wife with ZERO made twice as much money farming the exact same events. If anything, magic find works in reverse.
White loot bags are worth more than blue and green items. While MF does increase your chance at an exotic it more often then not turns that potential charged lodestone into a 99cp vendor fodder blue item.
Why would it do that? Charged lodestones are higher up in rarity (yellow), and I think charged lodestones and equip drops are in different categories.
From what I’ve read, a blue equip can be promoted to a green equip, or a rare equip, but the equip itself wont transform into a material item.
Why we are on the subject, if someone else gains access to your account, wouldn’t their IP show up on your Authorized Networks, or are their ways around that?
I’ve done Extensive testing of this issue.
• Boons (Boosters/Foods/Sigil of Luck) seem to be unaffected.
• Upgrades on armor are also not affected. But I can confirm. I’ve tested Exotic, Rare, and Masterwork Armor.
Each of the tests with Exotic/Rare/Masterwork gear, all conclusively showed that each armor lost it’s Base 3% Magicfind upon entering a downed state.
It also does not matter if you Rally, Rez by player, or Rez by WP.
The only ways to restore the MagicFind, is to A) Repair the armor,
Re-equip the armor, or C) Hotswap to townclothes and back (I currently have right-ctrl set to toggle this, allowing me to tap it twice.)
Note: Restoring the MagicFind via the townclothes option or manually re-equiping the items, tends to still produce a not-so-accurate Magicfind Percent, Give or Take about 10%. Still tracking this variable but so far unable to locate it.
Just want to add that my armor isn’t actual magic find armor. It’s lvl 78 berserker armor with pirate/traveler runes. The trinkets are magic find though.
earrings/rings/back = masterwork w/ 4% magic find jewel
amulet = The Golden Lotus w/ 20% magical infusion.
First time I was downed I lost 18%
But later that day I wasn’t wearing any MF gear aside from a Queen’s Necklace with 20% magical infusion, and the MF stat didn’t go down at all when I was downed.
Got defeated on purpose just to test this, and Magic find went from 141 to 123 ( a loss of 18%)
Sigil of Luck was not in use, nor any food buffs.
I’m not going for a legendary, but I have to ask.
If you have two people who have already fulfilled all requirements to getting a legendary except obtain the precursor, how does the person who chooses to “play the game as it was meant to be” win out over the person who chooses to farm cof 1 repeatedly, and pump fresh gold into their pockets, and into the economy? (aside from general enjoyment for the game)
As far has lodestones go, Anet already made the statement that dungeons were meant to be challenges for coordinated groups, so for some people running dungeons isn’t an option.
Which leaves…
Farming, killing a monster over and over for whatever lodestone or mat you need. Now personally I don’t see anything wrong with this, and I think it is fine as is aside from a few instances, but it would be wrong to not call this farming imo.
Just got defeated on purpose, and MF went from 141 – 123.
I didn’t have any luck charges, or food buffs. But it went back to normal after I switched out my MF gear for my normal gear, and then put the MF gear back on.
@OmniPotentes.4817 When you took off your MF armor, did you just take it straight off and dropped it in the inven, then out it back on? Or did you replace the MF equips with other non MF armor, then put the MF gear back on after that?
Don’t know if it matters, just thought I would ask.
The Golden Lotus only adds 10% mf, not 30.
OP: try unequipping everything, note the hero panel’s mf total, then equip items one a time, noting how much should be added and how much the hero panel says was added.
I was counting the magical infusion.
Dang the MF I have has been adding up fine so far.
(I don’t have traveler’s or explorer armor)
Rune of the pirate: 50%
Rune of the traveler: 10%
weapon: 6%
The Golden Lotus: 30% Edit: I was included the 20% magical infusion
Other trinkets: 35%
= 131% + 10% from the guild bonus, so it shows as 141%

They’re just the risen version of lodestones.
Unfortunately you can’t crafting anything interesting with them, aside from powerful potion of undead slaying. -_-
Managed to get on and do one event at shelter. It was manageable, but there was only 2-3 of us there, so the scaling for lower numbers is better than it was pre patch. Will have to do them during prime time to see what it’s like when 10+ people are there.
The only problem is not enough people walking around with balanced gear.
Get some toughness and vitality and then its just fine. Content was broken before. When mobs hit so softly that zerker/glass canons can survive, that’s brokenj.
Went soloing in orr last night, did a couple events. Plan to go again tonight and see what else I can work through.
If you insist on being glassy, have fun standing outside of cof until they fix that too, and then stick to wvw or spvp where you can hide in a zerg or get on a themed team.
I don’t ever wear MF during dungeons, or temple events, but now I can’t even have the small allowance to wear it during regular Orr events?
Noooooo!
Oh, well, I haven’t did pent/shelt in a while. I’ll stay in FG sound for now. Though, now temples are hardly open, so it’s a pain to find a time when sparks are up.
Would be cool if someday in the future we could exchange them for either of the other two armor types at the cost of losing any upgrade we put on the item, and any transmutation we performed on the item.
It’s not really a big thing to me, just saying that it would be cool. At least they remain account bound even after you equip them.
It may say very high, but FC is actually one of the least populated worlds among the NA servers. Did you just login, or did you login during primetime?
You didn’t listen very closely then. They said they were buffing the passive effects of some signets to make them more desirable to hold, and altering some activated effects to make them more desirable to use. No specifics other than to say some/all of the stat signets(90 power, 90 condition damage, etc) would be bumped up to 180 per stat.
They also brought up sigils.
I think the OP means that a person she/he blocked for having a really offensive name is no longer in their block list.
I would assume that this person has had either their character name changed (by Anet enforcement) or terminated and that is why that name doesn’t exist in the block list anymore.
Yeah, that is what I meant. I noticed the name was gone because that was the only person I have ever bothered blocking in this game.
So when you block someone by using one of their in-game character names, it doesn’t automatically block all the characters on that person’s account?
I think.
Does that mean their character was deleted, or did their account get terminated?
This was a blocking I did in game, because the person had a really offensive name.
Personally, I hardly ever see anyone with Arah weapon skins. Maybe a lot of people just think they’re ugly, or it’s just my server, but I can count on my hands how many people I’ve seen wearing an arah weapon.
Don’t remember what thread it was in, might be able to find it in the dev tracker, but they said they were adjusting some of these encounters in the next patch. (The one on April 30th I believe)
I am very disappointed by this decission. Two months of teaser-content, one month with really nice content and then bam hide the end of the story in a dungeon which I can’t play because I wont PUG with some random guys who only care for the shinies and give a … about cutscenes or a story.
Do you know you are a random PUG yourself for every other players ?
People who complain about others players and don’t have the balls to make a five-man dungeon during one hour… you shouldn’t play an mmo
Since when did mmo’s become all about running 5-8man instance dungeons?
This is the exact kind of attitude that makes me not want to do dungeons. I wish my friends irl enjoyed PC games, then I woudl def consider dungeons.
I have no problem with grouping in open world gw2, and in past mmorpgs I’ve played, shoot, in the old days of daoc. If you didn’t group you probably weren’t going to hit 50, or at least it would take you over a year.
But dungeons, noooo, I generally don’t like the attitudes, and mentality bring in there. I know it’s not all bad, I’ve meet some friendly people, but instanced dungeons are something I generally don’t want to deal with.
Aside from all I just said, I’ll check out the Flame and Frost dungeon when it comes out.
(edited by Lambent.6375)
Seems it would add some versatility with the added benefit of being able to blast finish on our own field for those around us, even if we already have access some of those fields.
Never knew raids had to be instanced, then again, I never played WoW.
I always thought of them as encounters, whether it’s a dungeon, or some boss in open world that required a good amount of people, and some planning. (no planning at all if the encounter has been done so much, most people already know what to do)
Whats the difference between a wooden chest & a rare that drops on the ground all glittery?
Most of my rares come from the ground, I hardly get wooden chests.
Depending on where they drop, sometimes the chest are underground, and not visible. I know when I’m going sparks at lyssa whenever a wooden chest drops it’s not physically visible, and all I see are the sparkles.
Dark Age of Camelot. :x (well, it used to be big)
Correct me if I’m wrong OP, but I think he has a problem with grouping in dungeons or instanced content, but not grouping in general.
In what sort of content is the AI always awful? I’m looking for some sort of specificity since I have no problems with pets in the open world.
Have you tried a bow warrior?
A few days ago I was at fire ele, and noticed my pet was taking damage so I brought him back.
I then moved to the left to avoid a red circle, and my pet walked right in to it, and got sent flying and bounced right into a red circle on my right and died. :P It was kind of funny to watch, but in the back of my head I was thinking, “well, there goes some of my dps”. I couldn’t switch because there was 4sec left on the timer.
I can keep the pet up for a little at melandru, but eventually he gets taken out by one of those big aoe spike attacks, or charges.
At Grenth he dies in the ocean of red circles, or if I decide to fight shades instead he can’t damage them.
It would be cool if they could add some safe box in LA, where all contents of unlooted chest get ported to, and anything uncollected after the daily reset gets deleted.
(edited by Lambent.6375)
5 man dungeons = community? Seems that quote is better fitting to people having to interact to open up temples, and complete certain meta events.
Not the OP, but speaking for myself.
It’s not that I don’t like strangers, it’s just that i don’t like doing instanced content with strangers, or people in general for that matter. It’s too bad that i don’t have any rl friends/relatives that play this game, but I have seen all the drama/issues that go in on dungeons through guild chat, and reading these forums, and I don’t want any part in it.
it’s not like MMO’s are all about instances, I group with people, just not in dungeons. :p
I get around 1-2 a day if I’m killing mobs in open world, but generally it’s that crappy putrid stuff if I’m out in cursed shore.
Meh, I guess they’re pretty fun if you mostly play in open world, or spvp, or even WvW, but in general people prefer other classes due to them having better group friendly utilities. I kind of wish I had main’ed a different class, but I’m already invested in my ranger, and I’m too lazy to switch. Wish I knew the GW2 ranger was actually a pet class. (yes, I was an idiot noob when I started my ranger)
As a ranger you have to deal with managing a pet AI when playing more difficult content, or pretty much any encounter that is AoE heavy , or highly dependent on your ability to dodge, which is kind of difficult when doing content that is designed to put pressure on someone who only has to manage themselves, but rangers have to manage themselves and the pet.
As for pets that go with GS, I’m partial to canines because of their knockdown.
I have my slider to the shortest as well, and yet sometimes I can be in a zone for a full hour and no music will ever play.
Only way I can get any music to play is if I round up a bunch of mobs so the combat music will start playing.
65% magic find?
There’s a whole other topic here on basically wanting a reward when the rest of the group was forced to carry you.
Magic find should only work when solo, or should apply to everyone in a group and get averaged across them, or simply be removed as a stat.
A stat which is designed to boost rewards the less one contributes to success is counter to good game design.
I don’t think it was affecting his stats that much.
“(40%food, 20% infusion on amulet, 5% on my back slot).”
" I only drop a infused ring and a shard of mist essence, two things which are useless for me."
Meh, sounds like a reward to me, I’d never get an ascended ring from doing dragons. :x
I agree, they should do something to get peeps out into WvW, but putting a specific item in WvW for them to buy is not the way to go about it imo. Those who really want it will just go to WvW as long as they need to and then go, “Finally, now I can get the kitten out of this lag fest.”
I actually liked what Daoc did with Old Frontiers by implementing Darkness Falls. It gave the PvE’ers a reason to unite in RvR, and they had a common goal when going out to RvR, and there was always at risk of losing DF, or just wanting to open it if they didn’t have it, so eventually they came back out to RvR to get the job done.
Whenever I go there I farm for no more than an hour. I generally have around 160% MF in total. First few times I went, I didn’t get any lodestones. After that they just started dropping for me, usually get 1 or 2, sometimes I get nothing. One time I got 3.
It’s fine by me. The dropping prices also gives Anet room to introduced crafted ascended items in the future if they wish to do so. That way you wont have the opposite effect, which would be ectos rising to insane prices simply because many of them are required to craft ascended gear.
With the way things are now if someone wants to craft themselves a set of exotic gear they can simply participate in bonus chest events until they have enough ectos, then craft their own armor/trinkets once they have the other mats.
Yeah, I feel that it is worth it. I don’t use explorer armor though. I say “feel” because I’ve never done any actual test to compare the quality of my drops, I just know that I usually get more fine materials in a span of 30min when I’m wearing MF gear. SO take this with a grain of salt. (no, I don’t wear MF in dungeons)
My MF gear.
level 76-78 exotic berserker gear (the difference between level 80 exotic gear is minimal, plus you can transmute them with basic stones) I lose 18% MF, but I like the little bit of extra damage gained, and the armor looks better.
- 5 Sup runes of the pirate = 50% MF
- 1 superior rune of the traveler = 10% MF
-5 masterwork trinkets with an exquisite opal jewel= 35%
- 1 ascended amulet with 20% MF infusion – 20%
- sup sigil of luck with 25 stacks = 15%
- exotic weapon with 6% MF (after sigil of luck) = 6%
136% MF without any other outside buffs
Yeah.
I don’t believe that you could only find 1 single barrel. I think you’re using a bit of hyperbole to try and make a point.
I believe him, because this has occurred one time during a bounty mission in the guild I’m in.
30+ guild members searching all over the map, and there was not a single barrel in sight.
I remember there was a similar thread about this a while back, and many argued the term “unique” listed on an item doesn’t hold the same meaning for all games, so someone can easily make a mistake if they don’t know what the term “unique” means according to GW2.
Why is it impossible for them to design a specific weapon skin that is only for the mystic forge? I know the skins derive from the mesmer illusions, but I don’t see why they can’t design a LB/SB with a similar concept just to add to the mystic forge.
They’ll be adding more skins to the game in the process, which I think is supposed to be a big thing in temr sof progress in gw2.
I know why we currently don’t have them, ended up finding out when I was googling about this before I decided to make a thread.
I was just wondering if it was possible for them to add new weapons with similar skins someday.
Would, “Can we get a SB/LB illusion weapon skin” be a better title?
(edited by Lambent.6375)
That we can create in the mystic forge?
Again, a strange argument here. Because of the rarity to obtain and item, one has the reasoning that it should be account bound? So why stop there? Exotics are rare, but they become soulbound on equip, why does no one complain about that? Needless to say, I would think this is more of a player issue (not thought about it enough and which character they wanted it to be on) then a game issue.
We stop there because basic exotics don’t even come close in terms of difficulty/effort to obtain.
I just wish they made it possible to cancel out the leap phase when you hit the dodge button, instead of being locked into position.
I don’t know, I was hoping it would be working now.
This was the thread that turned me off from getting it.
Did they fix the rune? Back when I was wondering the same thing I did some searches and kept stumbling on threads saying the rune of the ranger’s 6th bonus sometimes didn’t work, even when the pet was up.
Wouldn’t mind a signet like this at all, even if it was just a passive 15-20% dmg increase while you had the signet on your skill bar.
It would be useful for fights like Grenth where aoe is flying all over the place, or in precarious situations where you don’t want the pet dragging in aggro.
(Even on passive they sometimes stand far away from you, even after commanding them to return.)
Though, /shrug, I guess something like this was proposed long ago, but shot down.
In WvW, do people re spawn in places like borderkeeps in DAoC? Meh, whenever that happened (people camping our portal keep in emain) We just told peeps to stay inside because they are camping the outside, then told everyone out in emain that they were there.
Eventually they got hit from both sides.
Would be nice if they assigned champions their own special mat loot bags. Each champ can have a chance of dropping these bags ,and they can give between 3-5 mats upon opening.
Might not make people swarm champions, but at least peeps would have a chance to get a little something extra upon killing them.
