I definitely don’t think she’s sexy, although I still love her to death (sometimes quite literally, too bad she don’t stay that way). I think she ‘fits’ her psychopathic role quite well, and she definitely sounds like she’s off her rocker when she talks. I think they did a nice job with portraying a ‘fun loving’ villain, because to I think to her, it is all ‘fun and games.’ Not all villains need to have ‘sex appeal’ to be good. Goodness knows some of the classics didn’t.

She reminds me of Joker. Plants bombs, scares other gangs into obedience, chaotic and unpredictable fighting style, laughs a lot, insane, and takes hostages, and finally, does it all for the “lulz”.

I’d had a similar thought-line myself, and people love the Joker (and he sure as heck isn’t sexy). A lot of comic book villians are not sexy, and yet people love them. Its the same kind of concept here, imo.

no, do not remove the tags, rather, anet should change the way they are acquired.

I have to agree with this. Such things should need to be earned, one should have to prove leadership. Not simply purchased. 100g does not a leader make.

I’ve been DCed a couple of times. ‘Cannot connect to log in server, check your connection’ errors, yet everything else I’m doing is still chugging along just fine. I chalked it up to my machine currently being on the low end of the requirements spectrum, even though I run everything almost as low as it’ll go.

Hopefully I’ll be able to upgrade some of my components in a few more months. crosses fingers

They didn’t have a decent way of dealing with people that spammed in GW1, and I think they might have over compensated a bit in GW2.

2 emails to the same person….then suppressed
3 quick messages in almost any chat…then suppressed

Just sort of makes me roll my eyes. Thankfully my husband and I are in the same room when we game, so I can just tell him which waypoint to pop to when it stops letting me link them in party chat.

Hopefully in time, Anet will find a happy medium between what we had in GW1 and what we have now in GW2. Its out there, they just need to take a deep breath and relax juuuuust a tad.

afaik quick messages don’t suppress you.

sending three of the same message (ty x 3 or stop x 3) will

and it doesn’t have to be consecutive.

You could have 10 lines of chat and if the 1st, 5th and 9th are the same, you will get suppressed

I’m aware of all that, I guess I should have tossed ‘etc’ at the end.

Im not even going to get into an argument with fanbois. So I get on 1 minute after the 10 minute timer, and now I miss the entire event? seems pretty stupid. And no it doesnt work like that, because yesterday as soon as the icon popped saying there was action in the Iron Marches I went RIGHT there, not 10 minutes after, and I was put into an overflow that did not have the event. Regardless of someones delusion about how it works, it doesnt work correctly. Last patch introduced a lot of bugs, including particle effects going wonky.

Nothing is perfect.

That said, this works the same way events and districting worked in GW1. If the new district was not made within the allotted time frame (usually 15 minutes) after the start of the event (which only happened every 3 hours mind you, not every hour) then that district didnt get the event.

They have to have a cut off line somewhere. Otherwise, there is the potential that these events could extend well beyond the hour window allotted to them.

Please be nice to PvE commanders

LanfearShadowflame.3189

You know, for the most part, I try to be nice to everyone. To me, a ‘commander’ is just someone that had a lot of gold to blow. Now that could have come from farming, that could have come from using mommy and daddy’s credit card. They could be doing it to just show off, they could be doing it, as you said, to help out the community. I really don’t know and I don’t honestly care, but to me they are no different than other people. If they aren’t respectful to others, then they are not deserving of my respect, since respect is an earned thing. At least, that’s how it used to be when such things as common courtesy, sportsmanship, decency, manners, and ethics existed in the world.

But what is rudeness? I’m not a fan of relativism (i.e. relative truth), but in regards to ‘rudeness’ it does seem rather relative e.g what is rude to you may not be rude to me and vise versa.

You know? I could be very kindly telling you -or- screaming obscenities towards you to get off the stairs during grenth. To me, when I see someone using Jonez as their personal meat shield – endangering a fail for everyone else there is… beyond rude. But if I say to them (at first), oh please do get off of the stairs at your very earliest convenience (and it ends there), such a person could just as well be standing around 20m later in LA complaining vaguely about ‘fail commanders’ .

Of course then, if I get too harsh on them I probably get reported, or he even trolling in-game to get people kitten ed off to be ‘rude’ to him so he could report someone like ‘oh look a commander here, I’ll do something really stupid to get him kitten ed off and see where that goes!’.

I see fights going off like that too, people get agitated over fails, start cutting at one another. At least if there is a cool headed commander there, he can step in and just say ‘this is just how it is and lets try again and be more careful’ etc. and people will usually listen rather than just arguing amongst one another causing everyone to just give up.

But then to another, they may go away due to the ‘rude fail commander’ not agreeing with them. Ya know? But it’s not relative to me, just situational, while right or wrong may be too much to debate while the clock ticks down.

As for having lots of gold to blow, I had like 2s left when I bought the tag. Others might have put the gold towards their legendary, but I just wanted to see events succeed more often, be it in WvW or PvE, and back then when I used to WvW more often (less so due to connection problems), there were very few commanders in W3 because it waaas a sacrifice to get the tag back then.

I don’t mind so many tags being around now, I don’t complain if I may think there are too many or try to tell others to turn theirs off (as some newer commanders whine about). But I do think it would be better if Anet made it more of a sacrifice to get a tag now, as the servers/players get richer compared to early on. A. higher gold cost (or)B. Through WvW rank progression or something (both options).

Oh I’m pretty sure if a command told you that you’re a worthless kitten (4 letter word, starts with a ‘c’) and you need to gfto, you’d take that as rude. And that’s paraphrasing the paragraph long insult.

Yes, I understand that ‘rude’ is relative to each person, some people are more easily offended than others. However, certain things are socially acceptable and other things aren’t, and such things are still pretty obvious. For the most part, I’m pretty laid back, but I have seen some very nasty things from commanders in map chat, things that are easily definable as ‘verbally abusive,’ at which point I report them. If they’re ‘joking around’ with that person, you don’t do it in map chat. As with the case with workplace sexual harassment, just because the person its aimed at doesn’t take it as offensive, doesn’t mean others around won’t.

I have no issue with people having tags. I have no issue with people having gold to do with as they please. As I pointed out in the previous post, it doesn’t matter to me. It doesn’t make you a good person, a bad person, or anything in between. You are simply you, I judge you based on how you represent yourself. If you don’t have respect for others, I won’t have any for you. Just how I was raised.

I do except to see more for the other races in the future living stories. They are starting to branch out some, and I say we give them time.

Honestly I would love to see some Charr festivities like Meatoberfest, or an actual Norn moot. Sylvari is a little harder, considering their ‘culture’ is so young. Considering the oldest ones are only 25 (26), that’s not really a lot of time to develop any significant traditions. The norn, asura, and charr however, are much older races and have been around long enough to do these things.

I would love to see 2 or even 3 LS arcs going on at the same time… Halloween and Meatoberfest for example. After all, Halloween is obviously a human holiday, and during that time period the Charr festival for their culture runs. Or something along those lines. However, I know something like this would never happen for one reason….the players would kitten about it. “I don’t have enough time to do one, let alone two!” And that’s really sad, because it would help to add depth and realism to the world.

Edit: You’re going to have to forgive some of my terrible typing today. I am still thoroughly drugged from surgery yesterday, hehe.

Keep in mind that Anet never said the skins would never come back. They never said that there wouldn’t be other ways to get them.

All they said, was (at that time) that they were ‘limited time’ skins. Which they were, after given period of time, they were no longer available.

As a consumer you made some assumptions which turned out to be inaccurate.

Anet has a love of reusing content, something I have said repeatedly since the beginning of the game. Having these things come back again, as a limited time purchase, supports that statement. However, at the same time they are simply doing what every successful_ business does, and that’s to try to give their customer’s what they want, since that means more income for them.

That said, someone that has a commander tag and displays it is obviously noticeable by the community. They should be examples to the community. So when you see one being a disrespectful kitten, I’m not going to wspr them and point it out. They know they are doing it, and I have no particular desire to have their acidity turned on me. Instead, I just report them. We don’t need that type of behavior in the game, and we definitely don’t need someone sporting a commander tag doing it. In fact, I reported one just last night during the Sparkfly Fen invasion, for verbally abusing another player in map chat.

Edit: Side note – the commander I reported last night is, sadly, one I’ve played with in WvW. It was a name I recognized. In WvW, she seemed like a decent enough person, but ‘listening’ to her last night….wow. I don’t think I could play with her, or follow her again if she treats people like that.

I didn’t have any lucky with the first several ‘limited’ time weapon skins, and I didn’t bother investing in the RNG boxes. Why? Because I sort of saw something like this coming along due to the massive screaming of the players. Not just on the forums, but in game as well.

The ‘general’ consensus was that people wanted less RNG, and a more guaranteed way to get some of these skins. Anet has slowly been working in this direction – adding the rng coffers as game drops, making the skins tradeable, changing out the tickets needed to buy them to something you can get from an every day drop (the black lion chests), creating an npc for purchasing the skins ‘later on’ (even if the price does go up, you can still get them).

Now they are doing a sale, so that some of the people that didn’t have the luck or the money previously have a chance to simply buy them (which is what people wanted in the beginning). We have no idea how much the skins are going to cost. Could be 10$, could be 20$. We really don’t know. Does it kitten off the people that spent hundreds of dollars on RNG? Sure. However, things like this happen every day in real life. You go out and buy a new washing machine/dryer set and spend $3000, only to find out its on sale or clearance the next week or the week after and you could have gotten it for $1000 if you had simply waited. It happens. It sucks, but that’s just how things work. That’s how businesses work, and how they make money.

So we should be a WoW clone?

So, once the argument that “unique is a rather widespread mmorpg term” fails we resort to “I don’t want to be a WoW clone!”

I was talking more along the lines of verbage being used. Should we have to use the exact same terms so people ‘get it’? Do they really need a ‘stupidity deterrent’ box, that pops up when people buy one of these to warn them?

Yes. The “Unique” word is placed in a uniform block of white text nobody reads because nobody cares about in the first place and this wouldn’t be the first game to use the term just for flavor for the most expensive/rare items.

And the bolded part is where people go wrong. Its no one’s fault but their own because they didn’t bother to make an informed decision. They made an assumption and it bit them in the kitten.

We established a loooong time ago that GW2 is not GW1.

The greens in GW1 were something else entirely. They were a boss specific drop. They were ‘unique’ in that you could only get that green from that boss.

Considering how much was revamped and changed in GW2, its simply smart to question everything. Even if it seems familiar. Otherwise, you’re just asking for a smack in the face. Been there, done that. Now I have wiki open on my right monitor every time I play. Informed decisions….

Actually, yes it does. I can think of a bag specifically that it labeled as ‘Unique’ and you are allowed to have only 1 on your character. You can’t even carry one from mail to your bank, if you have one equipped. Unless this was changed between when I played last year (January through July of 12) and now.

Exactly, in WoW Unique means you CANNOT buy two of the same item and waste money/tokens that way. It doesn’t mean the same than in GW2.

WoW actually uses the term “unique-equipped” for items you can own more than one but can only equip one at max at the same time.

However, its not a waste. You can infuse them to be different items, at which point you can wear both.

Or, as they are account bound, you can buy with the intent for multiple characters.

Its not like they cannot be used. They simply cannot be used for his original intent. There’s a different. Informed shoppers know and understand this.

It’s a waste if your goal is to have two infused rings since if you do that, you are back to square one. They cannot be used if you don’t have alts.

And in all that, WoW uses the term “Unique-equipped” and not just “Unique” to be more clear. So it IS wrong to say that the term is used by most major MMOs since WoW population by itself makes it most major MMOs just by himself :p

So we should be a WoW clone?

Or perhaps people should read the text when they mouse over it?
Or check out the wiki and when they see terms they don’t recognize?

Again, informed decisions when making purchases. Its not really that much to ask of people. Especially when so many people have complained before about such things.

this topic again? Yes, the game does a bad job in warning you. Still, unique is a rather widespread mmorpg term. What totally eludes me is how people can work towards a huge goal like an ascended item and not take the time reading up on them.

It doesn’t mean the same thing in WoW, which other big MMO use “Unique” in that fashion?

Actually, yes it does. I can think of a bag specifically that it labeled as ‘Unique’ and you are allowed to have only 1 on your character. @OP

The basic definition of ‘unique’ is one of a kind. Basic logic states that if you have 2, then it is no longer ‘one of a kind.’ So it makes sense that you can only wear 1 of a ‘unique’ object, if you approach it logically.

At least you can carry more than one, unlike with some WoW items. As they are account bound, you can pass the 2nd on to another character. Which I am ok with.

I feel that GW2's philosophy is flawed

LanfearShadowflame.3189

I don’t feel like the game is a chore, or that I am working without pay, when I am playing. Of course, I am much more laid back about my playing now than when I played GW1. The time gated content can be a pain on weekdays, but eventually I’ll achieve my goals. Maybe it takes me a day longer because I missed a day, or maybe I don’t finish it at all (such as with some of the LS tasks) and that’s ok. I tried, and that’s good enough for me.

I don’t have to have everything in the game. I horded like that in GW1; had so many mule characters it makes me queasy to think about it. I don’t need to do it here. There really is no benefit to hanging onto crap I probably will never use, as turned out to be the case in the game’s predecessor. I don’t need every shiny just to say I have it.

I don’t need everything ‘right now!’ It leaves me nothing to work on or work towards to have everything just given to me. If I want one of the time limited skins, I work for it. If I don’t get it, so be it. I’m bummed, sure, but maybe I’ll like the next one better and succeed in getting one of those. Who knows. But it gives me something to strive for.

As for dailies, meh, if I get it done then so be it, otherwise I don’t really care. I don’t go out of my way generally for dailies and monthlies. The last week I’ve successfully completed dailies every day, but I was playing with my husband, just jumping around doing random stuff on various character sets. Then ‘ding’ oh look the daily is done just from playing (which I think is how it should be) without having to focus on it. But, like I said, if I don’t complete it, I don’t worry about it. I don’t let it dictate my play just because its there.

I think the game is only a chore if you let it become one.

I think I get what you’re after OP. You want to go back to the GW1 style where the main chunk of the armor stats where done with runes and insignia, and weapons had prefix, suffix, and inscription mods. Things you could easily find or buy the upgrade component for and swap out, either by overriding it or by using a perfect salvage kit to remove it and not lose it or the item it came off of.

While that system was nice, and very flexible in GW1 (although we didn’t have perf salvage until EotN), I don’t think it works here. It would sort of bone crafting. Not to mention that there is a little ‘more’ to stats on the armor in this game than there was in GW1.

In guild wars one, you leveled to 20 (20 was top level) and that was just about when the game had began, PvE or otherwise. by the time i was level 20 in the PvE stories, i would be about 10% done with the story, maybe less.

Going to correct this part here. Only in Factions and Nightfall did you level super fast like this, In Prophecies, if you played it linearly (without power leveling and such) you weren’t level 20 until you were closer to the end – right around the time you ascended or got to Droks. After which there were 4 (might have been 5, been so long since I played Proph) missions in the Southern Shiverpeaks, and 3 in the Fire Islands.

Prophecies leveling was very similar to the leveling we see here in GW2…spread out across the whole game, in sync with the story experience. The only real difference between them is that we aren’t unlocking / hunting for skills all the way through.

Hopefully when they release expansion content in the future, it will be for lvl 80s, and not require additional leveling (similar to bringing existing Prophecies characters into the new ‘main’ Factions or Nightfall content, which was intended for lvl 20 chars).

Most who come to forums, come to complain.

Not to be nitpicking, but that is also an unsupported assumption. You don’t have any data about the reasons why people come to those forums.

Actually no, he has a point, and its a statistically supported fact is you go google it. Generally speaking mostly those with complaints tend to fill out comment cards, or leave internet reviews on items, or visit forums. This is because they wish to be vocal about their dissatisfaction, while typical happy customers simply go about their business. Of course, just looking at the majority of posts and their responses around the forum would support his statement, even without googling the statistical analysis.

Brit, I LOVE the armor you have. Which is it?

Apprentice shoes (the starter skin)
Armageddon pants (karma)
Shadow top (purchasable craft pattern, or karma purchase)
masquerade shoulders (crafted)

Not sure on her gloves. I cant see them well enough.

Edit: Is it sad that I can so easily recognize the light components? I spend too much time armor shopping….

I don’t mind the town clothes, although maybe an auto switch or an easier method to quickly switch when I come into town would be nice. I often forget that I have town clothes.

Of course, there are some ‘town clothes’ which I’d love to have as an armor skin… the pirate outfit (as a medium), the divinity reach npc noble’s outfit (as a light) (my mesmer says ‘gimme now! plz?’), just to name a couple.

I’ve actually gotten the 10 mails in my mailbox previously, and the message saying that my mailbox was full. Waaaaay back near launch, and now my hints says its no longer complete, and even getting 10 players mails doesn’t re-complete it for me. So yeah, pretty sure it’s broken right now. sigh

It’s nothing like that. When the map has low morale, you have no boosts. That’s it. As you gain more map control, you gain more boosts.

My only concern with this theory, would be how to deal with the less populated maps? Should players be penalized with the lack of boosts because the map doesn’t get the amount of traffic another one gets? Just food for thought.

Working content or broken content?

LanfearShadowflame.3189

No, it isn’t. Don’t presume to speak for the whole community.

Asking the community a question is not not “presuming to speak for the community.” And as far as nothing being resolved, see my above post. Or go take a look at the sixteen thread in the bug forum about engineer turrets. Or about the kit/back item clipping issue that has existed since the first beta and hasn’t even been mentioned, let alone worked on.

Clipping exists in all armors, across pretty much all games. It is minor and there is no easy fix. Kitten, look at the complaints when they tried to eliminate shield clipping. The shield hovers, so armor doesn’t clip, but no people aren’t happy about that. Graphics rendering engines have limitations. Bugs also tend to be prioritized based on their effect on the game. Armor clipping is going to be way down at the bottom of the list. GW1 still has armor clipping to this day….. so you might just have to let that one go…

This guy does a better job with the turret issue than I ever could. But these are hardly the only problems. But like all of them, they have been completely ignored for a very long time.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Fifteen-possibly-sixteen-Turret-Bugs/first#post2601719

Possible issues. Some of them may be legit, some of them may be in the process of being looked at or worked on. This all falls under balance stuff, which they’ve said they’re continuously working on.

The turrets not attacking….sounds just like the issue with spirits in GW1, and occasionally minions in both games. They are aware of it. When they figure it out, they’ll fix it. They don’t have a magic wand.

Just look at the kitten update notes.

Just look at the number of profession bugs for the engineer and ranger that have existed since beta.

There is no excuse for that.

And these would be? I don’t play engineer, but I do play Ranger. Nothing is glaringly terrible to me. Please give me a list of things that have been broken since beta. I’m sure more than a few have been at least looked at and tweaked.

DIFFERENT TEAMS

In each update we get:

living story
new features
polish
bug fixes
skill tweaks

Edit: On a side note, now that they have longer development cycles for the LS teams (3-4 months), LS should launch with fewer glitches. However, nothing will ever be completely bug free.

General Gameplay

LanfearShadowflame.3189

Some people do group, although not generally for most open world stuff. The open world can feel very lonely, very boring, especially after being used to heroing up to go out and do anything in GW1. Even though heroes were just more npcs, you still didn’t feel ‘alone’ per se.

The guild suggestion is probably your best option for finding people to hang out with. Just a casual, friendly guild would suit your needs. This would give you people to go out adventuring with, which should help ease the loneliness, and liven some things up for you. It should also help reduce the ‘grind’ feeling, if you’re with good people. I know the game ‘feels’ very different when its just me vs my husband and me out and about.

"Mesmer Magic" Racial Swap

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

LanfearShadowflame.3189

I have a question for those in this thread who are opposed to the idea of racial change: do you have a problem with Total Makeover Kits and Name Change Contracts? Both of those are already in game, so players can already change the appearance, gender, and name of a character.

No I have no issues with these… in fact, you can do all of this IRL too. However, changing your appearance, or your name, or even your gender, does not change who you are as a person. Your history is still your history. You are still you.

Racial changes, make you someone else completely. Different history, different game play, its more than just a cosmetic change. If we can simply change this at any point, then what is the point of selecting a back story for a character at all? It becomes a wasted effort for anet to have set up branching stories, because now they no longer matter. We may as well just have a single generic story background, with no branching or personalization at that point.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.
