Turning on map chat is LA during peak hours…. its just asking for issues….
Ok, which one of you guys broke the site.
It was me! I threatened it with donuts!
I get it on and off… as well. Generally just hitting the forums tab at the top of the screen again fixes it. Sounds like they might be having some server trouble today though.
I would much prefer not to see a level increase, and no further armor tiers/treadmill. As it is I feel we have too many levels, and too many armor tiers.
I much prefer Factions or Nightfall style play (level fully or nearly to max in the ‘beginner/tutorial’ area, and then complete the majority of the story at max) vs the Prophecies type play (like here, where we level through the entire story).
I don’t want to have to continuously worry about having to level my character anytime an expansion comes out.
How do you suppose they will keep those who want vertical progession happy after ascended. And they said themselves ascended armor will be here before end of the year.
The only thing they did say is that we will not see new tier this year.
I propose that they simply don’t. They didn’t used to cater to it, I don’t feel that they should start/do more so now. With this final tier of gear, we have more than plenty of steps in the gear ladder. I vote they give us skills and skins, and just let us play. As we did in the predecessor.
Guild Halls why not? One of my favorite features in GW1
/Agreed. Would like to see these as well, although I’m sure it won’t be this year. Supposedly it’s on their to do list though, right along with player housing.
Party Finder for all your dungeon needs. I know the devs have already responded saying thakittens on its way.
Yup, just have to have patience.
Secure Trading Trading between players like we had in Guild Wars 1
We knew prior to launch that we would not have this, and they have further gone on to tell us that we won’t see it either. They made a decision to remove it, gave valid arguments for that decision, and seem to be sticking by it. I’m ok with that.
Dueling just let the players kill each other with no drawbacks in towns. I know this feature would blow costume brawl out of the water.
I feel pvp belongs in the mists, and should stay in the mists. From other gaming experiences, I (personally) don’t like the attitudes and mentalities that open world dueling fosters.
Guild Versus Guild If you really want to break into ESL this NEEDS to happen.
I believe this is something else that was said would not be returning, which I don’t completely understand. I’m sure they have their reasonings for it. I’ll see if I can find that article to quote the source for you.
New sPvP and tPvP modes that don’t require you to stand on one point all day. Do you remember how fun RA was back in the day? Like team death match would just be amazing to have by now.
Again, I agree. We need some more modes. Although if you step back and look at it rationally, there really weren’t that many options in GW1. Elimination, relic run, and capture point….
Guild Alliances just think about how amazing this would be for you WvW community
I’m iffy on this one. We don’t really need any more huge alliances, and we definitely don’t need the crap like we had in GW1. With being able to have 500 people in a single guild in GW2, the potential for mega alliances is disturbing and potentially issue causing. I’d say scale the guild sizes back down if you want alliances, or leave it as is, but those are just my feelings on it.
I don’t know about dungeons. I think they need to continue with some of their revamping of existing ones first. Having the occasional temporary one with a LS arc is nice for a change of pace as well. But overall, I think we have enough static dungeons.
I am interested to see how Anet deals with raids. They’ve said that they’re working on something, putting their own spin on them. I look forward to seeing what they come up, and welcome interesting challenges.
At the same time, I think they could revamp the world bosses some and make them more interesting/challenging, at which point more people might view them as ‘open world raids.’ They could borrow some of the mechanics from the Scarlet invasions to spice one or two up.
For example, Tequatl. Same static spawn spot. No one ever uses the lasers. People sneak around behind the bone wall to hit him instead of taking it down. Etc. Etc.
So lets spice it up:
-Randomly spawns around the map, give him a little marker so we can see him when we hit M
- Will move from area to area. Just like how Scarlet will jump from battle to battle, make him do the same. Give him some regen, like he’s retreating to lick his wounds. Give him the ability to spawn his bone wall elsewhere so he can play ‘defense’ (and remove the ability for people to sneak behind it to hit him). Make us chase him, or conversely, make him chase us (based on a goal, like needing to lure him into a trap)
-This is a dragon’s champion, have him call for waves of reinforcements. Set these up to require coordination and teamwork. (example: Defeat 3 concurrent waves of reinforcements in 5 minutes – would require splitting) While the people that break off to kill the reinforcements, make it so the champion is invulnerable. Or make it so that he needs to continue to be hit to keep his health at [its] current level (but not lower) so he doesn’t regen.
-Add a twist, we need to lure him to what is his normal static spawn point, and shoot him with a laser at a specific time to weaken him enough to finish him off, otherwise he doesn’t actually go down
-Make it failable. If we don’t kill the reinforcements in time, if we don’t keep him from regening, if we don’t get him to the laser at the right time, etc, make the event fail and make it mean something: ravage the map, destroy all the outposts and force us to rebuild, add a ‘poisoned air’ environmental effect (something similar to Tormet or DoA environmental effects), lengthen is respawn time, etc
Long example, but hopefully you get my point. Something like that would make it interesting, would allow it to vary from battle to battle, would make losing impactful (at least until the next time), and should add enough challenge that everyone isn’t griping is the same old thing. (Although there will always be some)
shrug
I think that’s enough of my randomness.

GW1-style; pretty much only horizontal. Max stats easy to obtain, optional grind for cosmetics and titles.
I’ll +1 that…
However, everyone seems to forget that before Nightfall, there wasn’t a heck of a lot cosmetic hunting, at least for armor. Specific armors had specific stats, some of which were absolute crap. People didn’t care to ‘collect’ those armors because they had no use for the stats on them. It wasn’t until we could insignia and make the various skins be whatever we wanted them to be that cosmetic hunting really became ‘a thing.’ Yes, there were always a few that bought it for the look, but then they never wore it because it wasn’t functional. IE – loved Elite Ice Forged, but didn’t want/ desire +10 vs cold and +10 vs elementals all the time. Had no use for it, so I didn’t bother getting it….until after I could change its insig. Then I had all the ele armors in the game. =)
Anet made a design decision with LS, originally, not to ‘recognize’ players because it could lead to issues later in the story arcs – how does one address someone that didn’t do previous arcs? How much recognition should individual characters get? And so on. In addition to that, there’s some extra costing and work involved. However, they might be changing this a little bit, as we’ve seen with some of Scarlet’s dungeon lines. Wooden Potatoes discusses it a bit in his LS Clockwork Chaos Recap:
I enjoy what I currently have. I level atls, I’ve started doing most of the dungeons, I participate in living story, etc.
Additionally, I would like to see elite areas similar to (but not the same as the old) FoW, UW, DoA, Urgoz, and the Deep return. Areas that would require more than 5 people, strategy, and potentially time intensive. Things that were built where speed clearing couldn’t be used, where divide and conquer tactics were required, etc. Things where teamwork and skill were rewarded.
Yes we may have an upswing now, but when this Ascended stuff gets added that upswing may very well change direction, its happened once it’ll happen again..
Very possible. We don’t really know. There is the possibility that the ones that have stuck around, which pretty well know it was coming, in conjunction with Anet releasing more information well before any actual implementation, and asking for feedback in regards to these things, that we may not. I don’t have a crystal ball, and I’m not going to make assumptions at this point. I can only look at the current trend, and base my thoughts on that.
No endgame August 28th 2012, no endgame August 29th 2013.
No end game that meets your criteria or standards. You aren’t happy with what you got, and that’s fine.
Personally, I don’t need (or want) a gear treadmill, or time locked raids as an endgame. For me, Anet’s initial statement that the ‘entire game is endgame’ is true, and I like it. At 80, I can go anywhere and do anything. I can go back to Caledon Forest, or another lower level area and not one shot everything. Yes, it’s easier because I’m fully traited and have stronger armor/weapons, but it’s still not a walk in the park. It’s still enjoyable for me, because I’m not just facerolling through.
Now, this does not mean that I would not also welcome ‘end game’ type content like we had in GW1. I would love to see something similar to FoW, UW, or Urgoz be introduced. Not those actual zones, since they wouldn’t fit the lore or story currently, but something equally as challenging. Something that requires strategic, larger team play. Something like this might be on their todo list, might be something they are working on as one of their ‘larger background projects;’ however we don’t know because we don’t work there and they aren’t ready to share yet. This type of development, again, takes time, so I am perfectly happy to ‘wait and see.’

I’d say I miss heroes and henchman, but it’s more the ability to not have to rely on other people to play the game. Also the depth of builds and being able to freely experiment.
I for one do NOT miss heroes. I don’t miss their complete inability to focus on my target unless I manually lock each hero’s target on the target I want (just hitting control T on a target does not work, they target whatever they want unless you lock a target for them 1 by 1), I don’t miss their inability to move out of AOE on their own (you pretty much can’t even play your own character, you just have to flag heroes out of AOE as a full time job), or their inconsistent interrupt abilities (one time they’ll completely ignore a group wiping aoe, the next they’ll interrupt a big aoe while I have pain inverter on the boss, fml.), I also don’t miss their stupidity of stopping running towards the flag to cast a spell on a minion while I’m trying to retreat to prevent a wipe.
right now GW1 is so underpopulated that you HAVE to use heroes for a lot of its content, and dealing with Hero AI ineptitude is hair pulling frustrating. I wish Anet would go back and improve hero AI to be kind of like enemy AI (moving out of aoes automatically), because it’s basically a single player game atm (a decent single player game actually). When Anet pulls the plug on gw1 servers I hope they can release an offline single player version. It could totally work and be an enjoyable game.
Ya know, I never really had these issues with my heroes. The only time I had to flag them was when I wanted to the get the heck out of the way and stand back. Otherwise, well….it was paradise
You must not have vanquished sacnoth valley or done a lot of the dungeons in HM.
if a boss casts one of those big aoes like firestorm, savannah heat, breath of fire, etc, your heroes will stand in it and die.
So all I could do is constantly flag them around because they’re too stupid to move out of the way on their own, and inconsistant with interrupting them (unless I had pain inverter on the mob casting it.. then Gwen interrupts almost every time)
I vanquished everything (had to for the titles), and I did all the dungeons NM and HM at least once (again, those titles will getcha). Ran 600/Smite CoF before the smite change. Was still doable after, just took more time.
Anywho, still didn’t have that much issue with my heroes. Oh sure, they had their stupid moments, where I had to flag them, but for the most part they were soooo much better than PuGs. They made life much easier for me. No clue why the huge difference between yours and mine though.
I just sort of assumed more clarification would come in the expected, upcoming blog post. Martin states they would be posting a blog about the patch, when asked about the MF changes.
From dulfy’s page:
Legendary Weapon Updates: Legendary weapons are getting a stat boost and an Offensive Infusion slot to align with the new Ascended weapons! Legendaries are also receiving additional functionality: When out of combat, Legendary weapon bearers will be able to choose between different stat combinations for your weapon. And to top it all off, many Legendaries are getting some aesthetic upgrades!
Both sigils and infusions are available on updated Legendaries and you won’t be forced to choose between them (source)

That’s all I got though…
lightning reflexes (edit) is a wonderful thing.
I just re-added that to my bar (skill 9 in fact lol) last night. Forgot all about it.
People originally complained that F&F was too slow
It was too slow for what it actually brought into the game. Seriously… a couple of NPC’s, a new instance, a karma box? Did they work 1 month on THAT? Same goes for Living story at this moment, the content is total rubbish (bad story, bad rewards, grind/farm…) and they spend waaaaay too much time on it.
I won’t disagree that F&F was super slow. A month for its initial phase, which took me all of an hour to do if I was lucky? However, I also took it with a grain of salt, since when they started releasing it, we were told they were still working things out and that it would take time to get all the kinks worked out. They were trying something new. I argued for having patience, not that it was good. Although, I did like the dungeon.
As for the current LS, you and I disagree is all. I like the current content. I find Scarlet to be humorous, and I enjoy hopping into the invasions a couple of times a day as a change of pace. It is a distraction from the typical leveling, dungeon runs, etc.
Keep in mind that development takes time. Its more than just code work. You have art, and voice, and testing. There is a lot to it. So while sure, they may have spent a month on that tiny piece, it may have been necessary to get everything integrated. We can’t honestly know, we don’t work there.
ANet (NCSoft) noticed very quickly that PvE kitties are gembags: Keep them happy, and they’ll gladly invest in the gemstore and keep the game up and running..
*It was never mentioned that NCSoft is a failing venture.. However, it is a venture that is failing its playerbase.. *
The percentage of people who never PvE (pure WvW players) are blatantly ignored, since they have no effect on the cash flow at NCSoft..
Any business worth their salt knows how lucrative (or not) their selected target audience is. I’m almost positive they were well aware of how profitable pve would be long before launch. For crying out loud they hired a monetizer solely for the purpose of milking the most out of it. That was pretty much a dead give away. But they are a business, and businesses are in business to make money. It’s what they do.
Yes, some of the player base feels let down. Again, I never argued against that, in fact I stated as such in another thread. I also argued that we let Anet down by being the narcissistic, entitled brats that we are. (Disclaimer: ‘we’ is a general use term, I am not calling out anyone specifically). There is hurt on both sides here.
I wouldn’t say WvW gets no love. They have their own team after all. We don’t know how big it is. We don’t know what all they are working on, but they have tried to spice things up a bit. Ok, you don’t like the mastery lines, but some people do. The maps haven’t ‘changed’ yet, but its only been a year! You have to give them time to come up with something interesting, get it approved, and then code and integrate it. It will take time. As I stated before, we don’t know what all they are working on. Have some patience, take a break, hell…read a book. It’ll all be there when you come back.
(edited by LanfearShadowflame.3189)
If things were as bad kitten many are screaming, we’d be seeing a lot more action from Anets side, from NCSoft. That’s simple, basic business management.
We are seeing a lot of action. Living Story every two weeks? That’s a lot of action. Unfortunately…
Lol, not the type of action I was referring to.
We knew living story was coming at launch. We knew at it’s onset that they wanted to do it at rapid intervals (personally I liked the 3 week set up). People originally complained that F&F was too slow, they told us they were working out bugs / logistics / whatever and future releases would come more often. Then, Colin in a twitch stream, stated that based on their numbers and statistics (they saw a decline in interest and in people playing the content in week 3), they were going to the 2 week updates. To support this, they hired more people and scaled up their LS teams to 4 separate teams, giving each team a longer development cycle.
These are not the actions of a failing venture. You don’t hire people. You reduce salaries, snip over time, and lay people off.
Edit: Have I mentioned how much I hate the filter?
And the other 35% of people are those who enjoy the game and are toiling away here while at work (me).
Hehe, me too. Chasing down code errors makes my eyes hurt….so here I be when I need to stop staring at that crap.
Okay. /e cry Doom and Gloom because I am not happy with:
- crafting going to 500
- ascended gear
- living story
- guild missions
- rng skins
- 5-member parties
- personal story not having enough personal story
- dev-ilish resistance/reluctance in regard to an expansion
- no new professions
- no new races
- no new zones (karka land = ha ha good joke)
- too kitten many pointless levels
- achievements because the next thing you know we’ll be getting achievements for getting achievements
Also: I don’t care what we’ve been told. We’ve been told lots of things. And then we’re told what we’ve been told doesn’t mean what we’ve been told it means. Therefore, I say:
/e tell it to the hand
Ya know what, I’ve posted that I’m not happy in regards to several of those things as well….and have posted my thoughts, feelings, and criticism in many a thread. However, I accept the fact that I am not the one making the game. Just because I don’t like it doesn’t mean that others don’t. Some very much do, and are excited about it.
I don’t go around crying gloom and doom though. “Oh the game’s dying” “Oh they are losing their playerbase” Yes, they have lost some players, possibly even a decent chunk. They went through a slump after the initial launch, this is common for all MMOs. However, they have actual numbers. They have told us that yes they lost players, yes they went through the slump, and now things are picking up. Not only that, they are getting ready to launch in China, which could (potentially) double their player base. If things were as bad kitten many are screaming, we’d be seeing a lot more action from Anets side, from NCSoft. That’s simple, basic business management.
I don’t die as much now, as I used to on my ele. I’m much better at dodging (surprised I haven’t broken that button yet, putting my finger through my keyboard smashing it haha), using my defensive skills (rolls, pushes, blinds, etc), and simply not over aggroing (Leeeeeeroy!). Still a little miffed about the 5 foe aoe limit (really Anet, wtf), but I manage.
I tend to die more on my Ranger right now, but I haven’t learned how to best utilize and synergise my skills as yet, and well…dodging is limited. sigh Sometimes I feel like I should change my guild name to ‘Bodies R Us’ XD
And GW is losing a lot of its playerbase as well, my friend.. Get out of PvE from time to time.. ;-)
Except that we have been told, several times recently, that they are seeing an upswing in the player base.
And they are getting ready to release in China, which will further boost their playerbase.
rolls eyes
Lets cry gloom and doom some more because we aren’t happy.

Well.. I was trying to do the ‘win on 13 different maps’ achievement…however, that doesn’t seem to be working out for me. =/
I do agree that we need some dev clarification before the patch hits. Although, I wouldn’t say it has to be today. Sometime this week, possibly even the Friday or Monday twitch streams would be sufficient as well.
Although if they have a sneak peak twitch on Monday, its likely it will be addressed there.
Keep in mind that they are building this fractal from scratch and likely didn’t start any actual work on it until after the results came in. (So as not to duplicate work) It may take some time. Personally, I don’t expect to see it until much closer to the end of the year, and I’m good with that. Let them take their time and give us something spectacular!
So, I’m mapping Dredgehaunt Cliffs on my lvl40. Suddenly, the invasion… well, invades. I should now leave the area because I don’t want to help with the events? I have something to do there….
You do know that some people actually play the game and are not only chasing champions in certain areas, right?
This falls under the classification of ‘variables’ that have to be taken into account. Yes, I’m well aware that some people are in the map to do map completion, or a story quest, or w/e. Not all are there for the invasion necessarily, or may already be there when it pops. This still isn’t freeloading per se. You didn’t map in solely to stand around and take up space, you’re still doing something. Which is the whole point people are missing.
Not necesarely… at least once I was exploring on sparfly fen (doing some events for the daily maguma event), got a phone call from my wife that’s out of town so I parked my character in a waypoint… several minutes later I went back to the game (not sure how long), an invasion had kicked out in the map and they were already on the second wave.
And again, I repeat variables that have to be considered.
No where did I state thakittens a perfectly cut and dry line between what is leeching and isn’t. I did say that to some extent we’ve all done it. Shades of grey, nothing is ever perfectly black and white; however, something could still be done about those that are obvious mooches. The ones that only map in to get the reward, but put no effort what so ever into attaining it. If you want the goodies, you should have to work for them, at least a fricking little bit.

Lol I’m sure there’s a little more thought to it than that.
Actually, no there isn’t.
It’s a PVE open world. Not a dungeon or PVP match of some sort. Anyone can go there for any reason they want and do whatever they want.
Whether they get rewards for anything that happens in that zone is entirely between them and Anet.
Hm…considering they wouldn’t otherwise be there except there is an event that they want the goodies from, but they can’t be bothered to participate in said event. This is as bad as [afk]ing pvp just to get your ‘play x matches’ daily crap.
Freeloading is freeloading, plain and simple.

I’ve leeched part of events. Simply because sometimes natured called. Or my neighbour suddenly showed up and asked me something. Or my cat brought in something I personally don’t care for in the house. Or a million other reasons.
Those things take 45 minutes. Anything can happen in those 45 minutes. And would you log off because your neighbour shows up after spending 20 minutes already?
I’ve done several invasions yesterday, where I actively played about 30 minutes out of those 45. And I’ve done several invasions where I took 20 minutes to unlock WP’s… (and not clear portals of any kind).
Oh, and what about those that already were in the map when the invasion happened? They should either leave the map or be forced to participate?
There’s a big difference between these things and the people that just show up to hang out though.
It’s one thing to have to open waypoints so you can help, or having to get up to deal with the mouse your cat just brought in as a trophy vs showing up, and just standing there chatting doing nothing for the duration.
We probably all ‘leech’ to some extent; however its people the latter category that should be penalized.
Heroes….. hands down, I miss heroes for organized content that requires ‘x’ people.
- Selling captured son letters .
I remember those days…and I hated those people so much. Lol, I was one of the ones that did the runs and gave the letters away for free, since so many people charged outlandish prices for that quest item.
Yes.
And there’s nothing wrong with it tbh. It’s a pretty boring event to begin with, and unless you want swift closer, a hit on Scarlet, or farm champions, there really isn’t much of a reason to stick around.
I don’t blame them. I usually just complete a couple of the rift events, and then alt/tab to the forums or something like that. Unless I’m playing with friends, which can make the experience a little bit more enjoyable.
Ladies and Gentlemen … everything that is wrong with MMOs!
Not just MMOs sadly, but life in general. How many people go to work simply for the paycheck, skating through on the absolute bare minimum, letting others pull the weight for them? How many take advantage of, or even abuse, state and federally funded welfare systems because they don’t want to have to put forth any effort in life? The games reflect our society, the good and the bad. We need to recognize the issues and fix them. Even if, for now, its only in a game, its at least a start.
Anet, we need the ability to report leechers back! [and people need to use it when we get it!]
:D making leeching fun, we can find hiding spots
:>
I think they should add something similar to the minigames… you stand still too long, you get booted. They should have the ability to track who is actively taking part in the event, and who is just standing around with their thumbs up their kittens. Yes, there are a lot of variables to take into consideration, but it can be done.
Yes.

Different promotions = different goodies. Happens in real life all the time…
You open a checking account with bank ‘A’ in august, you get a free toaster; however, had you waited until Sept you would have gotten a free microwave instead.
Ok, so maybe a microwave might be pushing it, but I’ve seen some give away some really nice Pyrex dishware and pan sets, but you get my point. It’s a marketing ploy to get those that haven’t made the purchase to do so. Nothing more, nothing less. Unless you’re willing to purchase another account, don’t plan on getting it, and that’s how it should be.
Well, I have to give ANet credit for at least trying to give us something nice for our 1yr birthdays; however, it might have been a little short sighted.
The mini:
While I do like the mini, and do appreciate birthday minis, this one doesn’t seem that well planned out. While I am sure there are some people with only a couple of characters hitting their birthday’s right now, it would probably have been better to assume that a majority of people would have multiples at the same time based on your preorder sales, as such, ending up with multiples of the same untradable mini. This is a bit of a let down; after all, why do we need multiples? Unless this is similar to the mini-pig issue from the initial Canthan new year, and we’ll eventually be able to trade in the duplicates for something better (5 mini pigs for 1 celestial pig, if I recall correctly). Even so, this just feels like it could have been planned out a little better, well in advance.
The scroll: I can use this. Admittedly, I can only use 3 of the 8 that I will get, but I still appreciate that. The extras are also something I can stick in my bank for if/when I make another / reroll a character, and let’s face it…. a lot of us will do this. Sure, there will be some percentage of the population that will have no use for these scrolls [ever], but I don’t think they are the majority. I could be wrong, but that’s just my opinion.
The booster: Made me chuckle. I use boosters only to get them out of my inventory, and while this one won’t really be any different, I still appreciate it. Its just another little ‘extra’ that any character can use (in conjunction with the other boosters).
Overall: It’s a little lackluster, but that’s mainly because you told us what we’d be getting before we got it. Sort of ruins the surprise. Still, I’m not looking a gift horse in the mouth; I’m content with what I got (even though I’m still trying to puzzle out why I have multiple Jennahs). Thank you anyway Anet, it’s the thought that counts…
Factions, Nightfall, EOTN, where expansions, they brought in new land areas, new cultures, new armor, new weapons and new classes.
Will we ever see that? If not then expansions will not be coming.
Colin has said we will see most of those things. Other devs have hinted at returning to Cantha and Elona.
kitten the guild colors? thats what i say. use/wear w/e you like
i can agree on dive master. i set up a tab in excel to track mine.
the invasions on the other hand… happen so frequently, i dont have much of an issue recalling which maps ive done.
Someone should point out that they never said the expansion would be free, even if they did use the LS system to roll it out….
Lanfear, that is a good point. BUT saying 1 year into the venture of GW2 that you dont know how to release it? Dont they have all the data they ever wanted by now to make that decision?
Also, breaking down an expansion worth of content to multi-mini-expansions would seem watered down content.
And i understand that now that they got into the LS groove and (i guess) dont have the man power to work on the expansion full time, would take some adjusting for them and us players. We would not get LS anymore for the time being until they release the expansion, but that would be the sacrifice to make.
It would really determine if we would like to continue supporting the game, if we like the way the game is being played out, etc.
Right now, it seems like a blind sniper is taking shots with each LS update. It just feels random. Seems like a story being described form 10 different point of views.
Business is full of red tape and politics. They may simply be saying that they haven’t made a decision because the way they want to release it is not how their parent wants to release it, or some such. We have no idea what is going on behind the scenes, and while Anet is its own ‘entity’ so to speak, NCSoft still has to pull the trigger on large scale decisions. Or, there may be internal kinks that we aren’t aware of. Right now, I can completely understand how an expansion and how to release it might not be a ‘big deal’ considering they have been prepping for several months for the China release. No small feat that, and as such, some things simply have to be put on a back burner.
I highly doubt manpower is an issue for them. They have told us time and again that they have larger teams working on larger content, in addition to the 4 living story teams.
They wouldn’t necessarily break the expansion down into multiple playable smaller chunks. They could patch in the data in updates prior to the initial kick off, and have it all available to us at that time. Chunking it out across multiple patches though would just make it easier to download…instead of one massive update. Although, they could roll out it out in small patches too, but I don’t think that’s what they were trying to say when they were talking about using the LS system to present it to us.
Maybe they really are just unsure how to release it like you say. Maybe they’re fighting with NCsoft about what is going to be more profitable? Who knows.
Either way they have their “expansion content” laid out for them. How many dragons are left? Boom done. More likely they’re having a headache over balancing new classes they will hopefully add, but they should honestly give up the dream of this being a “serious” pvp game and just add the classes.
Just because there are more dragons doesn’t mean the story itself is that simple. They may have most of it laid out. They may have some of the stories roughed out, but things change all the time. Anyone that has ever written anything knows and understands this. Things change with every draft, every script. They think they have it finalized, then it turns out something they want to do, they can’t for some reason.
If you look Colin’s last post, he’s basically dancing around what people want to know. In plain English that’s a yes, we’ve worked on some expansion stuff, but it’s a background project that we aren’t ready to share the details on just yet.

E) They are there. They have stuff. Why not kill them for their stuff? Now I feel like a mugger but that is a very typical RPG thing. Back in the day we used to be able to run into every house and rummage through every chest/drawer/cupboard/etc. we can get our blood soaked hands on.
Also what the two people above said. If it’s in my way then it needs to die. This includes all the boars, deers, sheeps, chicken, tuna, etc. as well.
Sheepies!
Oh wait….wrong game….
(For anyone that did not get the reference, I was channeling the minions from Overlord there for a moment)
Unfortunately, no, I’m not. I only wish there were a ‘report’ option on that mail. I didn’t ask for charity and if I were to, I surely would not be asking for such a useless item.
What a sorry state today’s youth is in.
Indeed it is… quite ungrateful nowadays.
Very much agree. Just wow…
I just want to remind folks again, the features and content you’d traditionally find in an expansion will absolutely be added to Gw2. The thing we haven’t decided is what form the release of that content would be presented in, be it a traditional expansion, living world, or some other form.
Can we take this statement to mean that no “expansion” content has been worked on? Since I assume you’d have to know the method before you developed it all
That’s really question of the year right there. If there’s no content yet then nobody is going to stick around for another 1-3 years while they make it(even if they have the bi-monthly releases of achievement point grinding).
They aren’t going to tell us if they are working on an expansion, because then we will want to know when to expect it, what it’s story is, etc, etc. (Stupid filter) Until they are close to rolling it out, we won’t hear about it simply because of how the community reacts.
It would be extremely foolish of us to assume that they have not worked on an expansion to some extent. We have been told repeatedly that it is not their focus right now. Keyword, there is focus. Doesn’t mean they don’t have people working on it though. It is likely that they have stories roughed out, and some general components done or in the works, but until they are ready to start hiring voice actors or have a significant portion of the work done, they will continue to tell us that they aren’t focused on an expansion.

The game is 1 year old. You guys should have that figured out on day 1, not being disrespectful but this seems like you are delaying the decision, to force feed us this Living story. Which in this sense is a great idea, but take longer between updates and really produce something worth calling Living story. To this day, now this might be just me but, the game seems the same as it was on release day. The living story did nothing to make it more lively and really make a huge impact on the world. The decision about an expansion is huge, and not being decided 1 year into the release of the game is quite frankly a disasterous business plan. Especially nowadays when there is so much competition in the mmo market, which doesnt really allow a company to take 2-3 years of leasure time, or “filler” content. People are going to get bored, and i guess now allowing us to farm for our legendarys will secure your player base for a bit more time, however not for long… What will happen when players get their legendarys? Oh, ascended armor. That will get players interested again for about 7 days.
Not all business decisions are made at the beginning of the venture. Some need additional data and consideration prior to being made. Considering that they were trying something wholey new with living world, and needed to get its kinks worked out before they could even determine if it presented a viable option for expansion roll out, they couldn’t have known ‘on day 1’ if everything would work out in order to make such a decision.
@ Sil – And there’s nothing saying that expansion type content would be temporary, if rolled out in a similar fashion to the living world. We have also been told that with the 2nd half of the year, we will start seeing more permanent impact from the LS, meaning its not going to all be temporary.
@Darkace – It more likely, should they decided to patch expansion content via the LS system, that we would see several ‘set up’ type chunks in pre-launch patches, in order to get a decent chunk of content into the world and set up (but not necessarily accessible) prior to the expansion kick off. They have done such ‘prep’ updates before for larger content patches.

ele….with a greatsword…. Not sure if that’s wonderful or terrifing. I think we’ll simply file it under ‘scary’
It would be similar to Mesmer with a greatsword, not that hard to imagine really……..
Not necessarily. Mesmers use a single magic type – chaos – which they channel through the blade. In a sense, using it as a means of focusing or directing it.
Eles, on the other hand, channel elemental magic, different ones for different things. The greatsword couldn’t function similarly (as a focus) because they aren’t shooting ‘beams’ of power, but instead elemental projectiles. We have a staff that covers this for us. They’d have to approach its implementation differently, simply due to the inherent differences in the magics.
E) Other
I tend to simply kill anything in my way. If that happens to be a champion, all the better. I like getting shinies, although probably not as obsessively as many others, but I don’t go out of my way for them. I don’t run in the zerg trains. I don’t go champ farming. I just play rather leisurely – leveling my chars, popping around for the invasions, etc.
OK… I just did some extensive studies regarding this and so far all the data readings seem to indicate that someone else getting something for free in GW2 won’t affect my game whatsoever. I’ll continue to do research and keep everyone updated.
Please remember to cite your sources and use MLA format please.
They were unfortunately eaten by a wombat. I have assistants standing by the wombat in “recovery” mode however.
I’d laugh….but it hurts too much right now. XD
Gosh, greedy much?
This a marketing ploy as old as marketing. Feirlista gave an excellent example of this, and it’s something every business does, all the time. We don’t go and demand we get the things we missed out on from other companies, this is no different.
For those that pre ordered, or got a collector’s edition, etc, we got our freebies. Those promotions are over, now its a new promotion to entice new people into buying. Its the same thing with other items. I’m buying a new mobo and cpu combo. Last week the same combo was on sale for the same price, but came with a free tshirt. This week, the price remains, but they aren’t offering the tshirt. I missed out on the tshirt promotion because I didn’t buy it last week, I have no right to demand they give me one when I order it this week. Just like people buying the game now have no right to demand something equivalent to the pre-purchasers 3-day head start.
