Jeff left back in 2009. Founded his own studio and was working on a Zombie console game.
Patrick left in 2010, for EME and gave us TERA.
Tribulation mode is a joke. 50 Lives and still cannot get past 3rd checkpoint b/c of the BS rocks. I see what you did Anet.. made it like this to put in an infinite continue coin so we all pay you MORE money to do this. Well not happening for me.
And if people say it is suppose to be that hard.. No I disagree. For one I think the SAB should be doable by all. BUT it should require more challenge not this 1 hit and you are dead crap. That is just utter garbage. Seriously.. 1 hit and you are dead Anet!? Thanks for making me want to destroy my computer and uninstall the game.
Actually from my understanding of the twitch preview prior to the SAB release, Tribulation mode is supposed to be that hard. They don’t want ‘everyone to be able to do it.’ This way, when you earn a skin from that mode, its means a little more. It’s mark of prestige (or sheer stubborn determination, however you want to look at it).
Most people should be able to do the normal mode, and for those that can’t they have baby mode. Pick your poison.
Per Colin’s Pax interview, its not one or the other. We will see both.
Side Note: Anyone else notice that anytime we ask about an expansion, they tell us they aren’t ‘focused’ on one, and then point out that they have ‘big projects in the background’ that they aren’t ready to talk about yet?
Anytime I’ve read anything Anet said, it was basically saying that they weren’t going to do an expansion if they’re living story works out how they want it to.
Re-side note: I have, but I really think Anet needs to be focused on one. It’s been over a year since release and we have yet to see, IMHO, some real, permanent updates besides FotM, which was fun but isn’t being kept up with either.
Its not that aren’t doing an expansion, its more they may not ‘box it’ as a typical expansion, but they still haven’t decided. We’ll still see all the things we’d normally get in an expansion – more races, more weapons, more landmass, etc. Its not ‘you get one or the other.’ we will get both – the living story, and eventually the expansion.
It sort of feels like they are trying to say “we are working on something along the lines of an expansion in the background, we just can’t come out and tell you about it yet.” Which, makes sense when it comes to business PR and crap. You can’t talk about it until you get all the red tape taken care of.
Yes, it’s been a year, but typical MMOs don’t release an expansion in their first year. Outside of GW1, nothing is coming to mind, and as GW1 has been repeatedly shouted down as not being an MMO, I’m not counting it.
-WoW’s first expansion took roughly two and a half years.
-Rift has been around since 2011 and only recently got it’s first expansion – again about 2 years.
-TERA only just celebrated its first year in May and does not have an expansion. There was a rumor of one in July, but I’ve not heard anything official (doesn’t mean its not out there, just means I aint heard it)
-SWoTR launched in 2011, and didn’t get it’s expansion until 2013, about a year and a half.
So…I’d say in 6 months or so, we might start hearing about one for GW2, since Anet has learned not to open their mouths unless they have something pretty much ready to show us.
Per Colin’s Pax interview, its not one or the other. We will see both.

Wandering around the world, merching my boatloads of loot to the nearest merchant. Occasionally selling a yellow or 3 on the TP depending on its sell price. I’ve gotten all of like 3 exotics in my lifetime, which I also sold. Some map completion, lots of char leveling. Doing some of the LS content. Nothing spectacular. I’m by no means rich, but I’m sitting comfy at just under 100g .
And here we see what happens when people holler ‘loudly’ about how apparently worthless something is.
How many threads have we had on how useless karma is? How its unnecessary? How it has no value, because you can’t buy anything decent with it?
We reap what we sow….
There you have it.
Now stop coming here and complaining non-stop.
Ascended is basically it gear wise.

He said he hoped not. Quit spreading misinformation and deal with our very valid concerns.
Now granted before he himself said exotic would be max, but this leaves it wide open to do it again in the future.
As someone else has already pointed out, he further stated that with the addition of ascended they don’t see the need for anymore tiers anytime soon. And further, he wasn’t going to say that there would never be more tiers because in 7 years that could change for a variety of reasons.
I consider this a valid response. Honestly, yes I’m sad they leave the door open for further tiers; however its a sound business decision. They leave it open, they promise nothing. Allows for flexibility in design later on. I don’t like it, but I don’t really have to as I’m not the one in charge.
Gosh I want one. I love the look. No need for it right now though…my mesmer is only a lvl 27 hehe. Got a while to get everything all leveled and gathered.
My suggestion would be to grab screenshots, keep a record of where and when and then open a full ticket via the support website. This way you can attach multiple screenshots and present more detail to support your concern. The report interface is simply too limited for the claim you’re making, imo.
ahahahahahahahahahaha!
you know it’s bad to fall out of your chair laughing at work? my coworkers are looking at me askance, but kitten that was entertaining!
I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself arjun, finding a positive thread amid this endless sea of negativity is wonderful. The WvW imagery…..lmao!
I’d offer more, but I’m laughing too hard to think right now (plus I really need coffee). Here’s to wishing you many, many more hours of enjoyment and fun!
I don’t necessarily want ‘harder content’ for the sake of being hard. Like you said, no bigger numbers, bigger damage, more defense crap. That’s not interesting.
What I want is strategic group play that is enjoyable, where you want to be with other people. Things where even failing can be fun. Where you walk away with great memories and new friends.
However there are 2 barriers here: the content, and the community.
Take it as you please, just my 2c.
They have to resort to cheap ploys like loot and progression to keep players engaged.
Except that these are all anyone seems to be asking for…
They’re simply giving their audience what they want, although perhaps not in the ways they prefer it.
What audience. If you mean east market youre on to something.
No, I wasn’t referring to that market….although that point is likely true too. However, I was referring to the numerous threads on here crying for it. Threads about longevity, threads about ‘gear grind or everyone leaves,’ threads about how they need to look at the loot tables again because some people aren’t ‘getting enough’ loot (and now we have threads whining we get too much), crying for loot overhauls because they want more guaranteed rares and exotics, about not having super lucrative farming. They’re all there….go back a dozen or so pages in the forum. Anet is simply listening to the people shrieking the loudest….
While he did get my question answered about hard mode dungeons (iamnemer is me
) I was quite disappointed in his response.
I was a little too, but I have to admit he gave sound reasoning for not doing it.
That said, it has been thrown out there that they will continue to revamp dungeons, and world bosses, etc. Making them more difficult and more interesting. There is the possibility some of the dungeons will be difficult without needing a hard mode. All we can do is wait and see though.
Can you macro one of your keys to be a double click? Then just hold the puppy down until done… That’s all I do.
G1 = Double mouse click
G2 = Shift +F for aoe looting
Saves me soo much time

Open world bosses, temple bosses, WvW keeps, and castles now drop Dragonite Ore in addition to their regular loot, which can only be earned once per day per location
Dungeons, minidungeons, jumping puzzles, WvW camps, and towers now drop Empyreal Fragments in addition to their regular loot, which can only be earned once per day per location.
Players can only receive rewards from dig spots and the reward chests found at the end of each zone once per account per day.
take this! gating gating gating……
im done….
That’s a lot of available chests per day though…
I think (and this is purely my opinion here) that they trying for similarities to the GW1 gear system, but wanted it to take a little longer to get – ie, how long it took you in Prophecies to get max gear if you played linearly without being ran to Droks (pre-Factions).
So.. a week for complete gear up? Somehow it doesn’t seem like it.
It was a comparison, nothing more. The point was that gathering armor was a game long ‘experience’ in prophecies. For some people it took no time at all, for others it took distinctly longer. I feel like they were trying for something sort of in the middle here, and in Colin’s PAX interview he states that they felt getting to and gearing exotics was a bit too quick. Which is fine, they have the right to determine ‘how long’ is should take someone to get max gear. Yes, their ‘how long’ is going to be (or at least should be) an ‘average’ length of time. Some will gear faster, others will gear slower., but they have an overall average length of time they want to enforce.
They might have meant “Griefing”. Would make more sense. More “Lifetime Forum Junkie Griefers” on this Forum than any I have seen anywhere else.
Haha, I might have to add that one to my signature too. Love poking fun at all the labels around here.
I suppose I should have added no RNG. Instead, there should be static recipes for specific weapons. For example, the item you buy could define the weapon type (like sPvP weapon tokens), then you get to choose the stats upon creation. There are lots of weapons that have fixed recipes in the MF (just not precursors)
There was an implied ‘no rng’ which I caught, and honestly, I’d be ok with that.
However, even if it had absolutely no rng, and required acceptable levels of required mats, people would still yowl because it involved the Mystic Forge. You’d think that thing ate their last brownie just to kitten them off, sheesh.
Still, Anet would most likely have some level of rng involved, they really like it apparently. Although, depending on how it was done, and if they say…made those ascended items tradeable….I might be able to live with it.
Purchase an item that costs laurels and a boatload of karma (provides time gating and level of effort based on how much karma is needed). Throw in mystic forge with 3 other ascended mats (requires current ascended mat farming). Receive ascended weapon.
I could probably think of something even better if I spent more than 30 seconds at it.
Have you seen the threads complaining about the ‘Mystic Toilet’ ? I wasn’t even going to broach that subject, since there would likely be RNG involved in it. That’s a scary can of worms to poke at.
I agree that there should be more ways of obtaining them, beyond just crafting and drops. However, I also agree with LHound that we shouldn’t simply receive something for nothing (some work should be involved).
I don’t particularly feel the top tier of gear should necessarily be ‘locked’ in such a way that [it] is distinctly harder to get than other armors. This refutes the ‘gear up and go’ mentality Anet was going for. I think (and this is purely my opinion here) that they trying for similarities to the GW1 gear system, but wanted it to take a little longer to get – ie, how long it took you in Prophecies to get max gear if you played linearly without being ran to Droks (pre-Factions). This would give you something to work towards initially. However, considering this is being implemented late, to many it instead feels like obligatory grind for BiS, negating their effort and expense on exotics.
Additional ways of getting the armor, which require some effort, may help alleviate some of the complaints. However, I don’t know what they could do that many wouldn’t label as grind, or gating.
I’m just playing the game.
I mean, I have goals I’m working towards…like legendaries, but I’m just sort of…enjoying myself. I’m not doing farming runs, or doing the champ trains, or anything specific.
Mostly, I’m leveling my 2 newest characters. And, I’ve finally opted to rebuild my guild, so I’ve been spending some time out in the open world with some of my new guildies, getting a feel for how we play together. Has made for some great laughs and great misadventures – hubby rocket booted off a cliff night before last and died (intentionally mind you), which resulted in one of the guildies running to edge of said cliff and hitting /cry. rather amusing to see, but its one of those you had to be there. Last night I attempted SAB for the very first time, and actually completed world 1 zone 1 and since I suuuuuuck at jumping I was ecstatic, went and bought myself an ice cream cone as a reward.
I’ve been out in the Charr areas, and actually spent some time looking at the world around me. Made for some great nostalgia. I mean, I’ve been out there before and I’d caught some of the obvious stuff, but since I was just ‘running through’ I missed a lot of the little things that I’m catching now.
Just these simple, stupid things keep me entertained.
If you haven’t figured it out by now, I’ll let you in on a secret. Anet doesn’t want you playing alts. They want to lock you into 1 character with one specific build so you can be like everyone else.
I disagree with you on this. Well, maybe not on the build limitations, although not entirely for armor reasons. Anywho, I don’t feel dissuaded from playing a variety of characters, but maybe that’s due to my play style and general perspective being simply different than yours?
I’ve found that I do the majority of my leveling just going through and clearing the maps for my characters. I know, for a lot of people it gets tedious though, so its definitely not for everyone. I always forget that I can use crafting for some of it….
Thank you for sharing the link, I hadn’t seen this yet.
mind boggled Did Colin say his main was an engineer? That was….surprising. Haha (Or maybe I’m just behind in my info)
Still, overall, satisfactory interview. He’s said a lot of the same in other comments, so for the most part he’s consistent in his information. They sound like they have a lot of things planned (which we knew), we just have to give them time to do them. The further elaboration on the delay for Guild Halls, and GvG was nice info. Capes…good to hear about those too.
Just a lot of information here. Many thanks to Colin. =)
@Galen, you’re trying to bail water out of a sinking ship hun. While you have sound logical points, they aren’t going to listen to you. What we’re experiencing here is (what I like to call) spoiled brat syndrome, and there isn’t a kitten thing anyone can do to fix it, except for the person them self making the mature decision to not be one.
Some people wanted another gear tier, now we have it. BUT it wasn’t given to them in raids, or dungeons, so they aren’t happy. They don’t want to craft it, and open world loot drops (which are extremely rare, but make sense) aren’t satisfactory.
Some people wanted something to make crafting more worthwhile, and potentially more lucrative. However, the new mats are time gated, leveling the playing field, making it so the market cant be flooded, and thus making it easier to create and keep a stable, high price for them. BUT this isn’t good enough because everyone can’t have it all / do it all right now.
Some people don’t like to gather materials, but some of the materials are account bound and simply can’t be purchased. They come from various drops throughout the world, requiring people to play (specific parts of) the game. They feel this is a ‘grind,’ which, in some cases I could understand if you only got 1-3 per drop. However, considering most drops are 10+, I don’t foresee it being ‘grindy,’ although for more time limited players, it will simply take longer to get everything they need. Again, people aren’t happy with this because they can’t just let someone else do the work for them, or they can’t have it all right now.
The actual ascended drops and crafted items are account bound, which pretty much everyone is unhappy with. They want to be able to sell them, after all if they have the gold or the time to make/get them…why shouldn’t they be able to cash in? (sarcasm there)
We, the players, ask for things. Shout gimme gimme gimme, like starving baby birds; however when Anet tries to comply in any fashion, its simply not good enough. I’ve said it many times, but I’ll say it again. They are kittened if they do, kittened if they don’t. They would be further ahead to just make their plans, and go with it. Those that like what they get will stay, and the rest will go. Its harsh, but that’s simply life.
I don’t get it.
I got a lot of them mats playing around 6 hours a week, and I’ve already got half of the Bloodstone from 10 bags. Hardly a full time job :/
Well I guess if the new mats drop in decent quantities, it may not be too bad. Although I’m assuming there is going to be a lot of rng in their drops (how much and how often) from the bags and such.
Still, going to be daunting for a lot of people, and I can’t really blame them. At first glance, some of those numbers are downright scary.
Or swapped them out at the reset, when everyone was starting fresh anyway.
Geee just what I need….. lol
Champion + Group event removed
Well hell…. There goes 1 of mine, and the one I was working on for completion.
grumble

There’s a gift from Scarlet in the new update. I wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise, but I now think Scarlet is ANet and this is their response to birthday gift complaints.
Oh please spoil it for me. I still have 3 hours stuck at work, an hour drive home, and another hour slaving over dinner before I can even log on tonight. Just msg it to me, so no one else has to fear spoilers. =)
No don’t message this person, put it on here in spoiler tags so people can chose whether or not to look. I want to know and i can’t log in until tomorrow.
This works too. Always forget about those tags (prob cause I’ve never had to use them)
Wowie that sucks big time. I am so sorry for you, Savory. Hopefully they don’t screw it up too much, and then you can make it when it gets reinstated.
Very glad I hadn’t bothered with one for myself as yet though.

Well this is a little…..aggravating…..and I was almost done too. Sitting at 3 of 4 last night, guess I’ll have to check when I log in tonight.

Colin has stated the future dragons and personal story is something we would see in expansion type content. Expansions are typically permanent, so I think we can safely assume that when additional personal story and dragons are introduced, they would remain in the world.
Could be wrong though. At which point, I’ll holler just as loudly as everyone else. Since that content should be perm.
Ascended weapons will mosly requires T2-5 Ingots (Iron, Steel, Darksteel, Mithril for greatsword) and maybe other ingots/wood planks for different weapons.
From what people calculated on Reddit, the Greatsword will cost an average of:
180 Iron Ingots
90 Steel ingots
180 Darksteel ingots
450 Mithril ingotsHere’s the link:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1lfd1y/so_heres_what_that_ascended_greatsword_costs/But those numbers are not 100% sure as they were calculated from the livestream. To resume: the price of those mats will surely rise (mostly mithril I think).
However, I’m sad we don’t have more uses for fragments, silvers, etc. Their price is so low for their rarity.
I don’t think that’s too bad, with the exception of mithril. Holy crap on that. Good thing I stock pile mats like an OCD lunatic haha.
sorry, i ddn’t spot the video already, as there is no major sticky link in the forum can someone be so kind to post the link?
i’m not used to look outside official forum but it seems i’ll have to rely on external sites and comunities to get infos!!
http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2/c/2844578
Should take you to it.
They have an official twitch channel (no worries, I didnt realize at first either), and do dev streams weekly (friday’s i believe), and occasionally do LS previews, or upcoming content previews like this. Its really handy, since you can occasionally get a question in and have it answered.
I do like that they are willing to get on camera and talk about what they are working on. They take pride in their work, even if we (the players) tend to bash [it] terribly.
Edit: Anet you need a smarter filter, srsly
(edited by LanfearShadowflame.3189)
You can improve your character without ever climbing stats though. This was proven in GW1, which had a level cap of 20, and yet people loved the horizontal progression.
And, if you read Colin’s latest blog post on the future he talks about skill/ability progression (a major aspect of horizontal progression) as something to do “instead” of a gear grind. Sadly, immediately after that post we get more Ascended gear and more power creep. The main reason the forums still roil is that they haven’t come out and said that the VP will be ending. Until then it will be business as usual on the forums and in the game. Grinding in the game and raging on the forums.
Well, we knew that the rest of ascended was coming at some point. However, he does state that after ascended they don’t want to do more vertical. (Key world there though is ‘want’ not ‘wont’) They plan on focusing on horizontal for now. Which was good news. We’ll see how it pans out.
If you watched the twitch video on ascended crafting, some of the lower level tiers are also used in their crafting. It utilizes materials across the tiers.
Edit: It didn’t look like huge amounts of the lower tiers for the new materials being made, but we don’t know specifically how much will be needed for the new weapons, and we haven’t even gotten into armor yet.
(edited by LanfearShadowflame.3189)
I’m fairly sure at least legendaries will level along, either automatically or by a simple MF recipe.
They said Legendaries are currently best in slot. They said nothing about it being best in slot for level 90.
It has been stated the Legendaries will always be on par with BiS, by several people at Anet. They have been asked many times, because of the concern you bring up.
Just as Legendaries are being boosted from exotic to ascended with these updates, should they add additional tiers if/when they boost the level cap, Legendaries will again get the stat boosts.
Yes. Level 80 Legendaries will always be on par with level 80 best in slot.
Level 90 Legendaries will always be on par with level 90 best in slot.See how that works?
You’re grasping at straws here. “Always BiS” means level doesn’t matter, period. Whether that BiS is lvl 80 ascended or lvl 90 revered, legendary will match whatever the current top it.
I really wish the search function worked better, I’d find you the quote.
You can improve your character without ever climbing stats though. This was proven in GW1, which had a level cap of 20, and yet people loved the horizontal progression.
Eh, you can’t really point to GW1 as the bastion of MMO success. One, because it wasn’t a real MMO. And 2, because the number of players was very small compared to what success is measured by in the space.
Just because it wasn’t a ‘real mmo’ doesn’t really make any difference. There are plenty of niche games out there. The point I was making was that games have done it, and have been successful. A small player base true, but still running with no plans to close those servers, which says a lot considering the number of other games that have failed.
I love some of the Ascended Greatswords, and can’t wait to see all the different color plays on the staves and scepters. My only concerns with the distinct coloration are:
-having to transmute just to get the color I want with the stats I want, if this even works. I mean, if I want the zerker greatsword, but I want the condition sword color….
-distinctly ‘advertising’ what stats you’re using. people are going to make assumptions based on the color, even if you do transmute it.
Minor in the grand scheme of things I suppose.
I’m fairly sure at least legendaries will level along, either automatically or by a simple MF recipe.

The addition of a single tier alone does not a gear treadmill make, no. I will agree there. However; is can be argued that it sets the precedent for one, should it either be a) well received, or b) at least acceptably taken to by the players. After all if they (the players) are seemingly ‘ok’ (which a lot aren’t) with one now, why not one more in say..six months? And how about one more 6 months after that?
The issue lies with the fact that ‘loyal’ veterans do not want ‘more’ gear tiers, period. Additional, Anet has not stated definitely that they will not add more in the future. They’ve said they don’t want to, not that they wouldn’t. Verbal loopholes.
For those that don’t desire ever climbing stats, we need to stop this from happening now, before they get that silly idea in their heads.
I’m good with no more tiers of gear, no more power creep. Having a definitive top end to stats should make balancing a little easier, instead of always having to worry about it.
I’m all good with lots of horizontal progression though. More armor skins, more weapon skins, titles to drown myself in, skills to hunt down…. Paradise…
Here’s a concept for you…..
Play what you like to play.
If its not 100% optimal, who gives a rat’s kitten. Its a game, you play it the way you enjoy it. If other people don’t like it, move on. They can get over themselves.
So, while this does the job, it won’t address the problem.
To address the problem of “LFG”, they need to add incentive and quality-of-life.
For example, in this LFG interface – there should be a subcategory called “Volunteer to Fill a Group”. This category will list all parties which have 4/5 players, or are older than 30 minutes. If you join a group with this, you can earn bonus rewards during the event.
Otherwise, there is absolutely no benefit of using this over using gw2lfg.com other than you don’t have to alt-tab.
You need….. a reward….. to give you incentive to join a group? The simple fact that you’re doing the content and getting loot isn’t good enough?
Why the hell does everything have to come down to ‘give me something or I’m not doing it’? My gods, I have loot coming out my friggin ears just from normal play, not to mention from the LS this time around.
Someone shouldn’t have to pay you or reward you just to join the group. Do it because you want to play with other people. Because you want to complete that content. Because you want to play the game. Not because it gives you a shiny.
The sad thing is….people are just as greedy in real life….
) I was quite disappointed in his response.
