new trait system dungeon issue

do you know why it is not allowed in sPVP ?

exactly !!!

that’s why full reset should not be allowed in instances.

I mean come on seriously, what is the point of running a build than ?

I hate to do this but….

remember gw1 ? you can reset your build in towns but not when you go out into the explorable world, why did they do that ?

think use your neurons !

because simply swapping your entire build in the middle of a dungeon negates any small challenge the dungeon might have presented.

example

oh crap, I forgot to trait for CC on condi removal, now you’d have to either tough it out or exit retrait and comeback.

if you’re allowed to simply reset your entire build in dungeons while ooc you’d simply go into a corner reset and retrait, negating the little challenge the dungeon might have presented.

I’m 100% against the ability to simply reset your entire build inside a dungeon.

Why?

Do you seriously have to ask ?

swapping one trait for another within your build is fine, but resetting your build completely kind of takes away from what little challenge the game has to offer at this point.

Unshakable and Defiance ~ The bane of PvE

I feel they have defiance backwards.
Instead of hitting the target with CC to get rid of a stack of defiance, and then losing immunity to CC when all the defiance is gone, it should be the other way around.
Each time the mob is hit by defiance, it gains 1 stack which has a duration. Each stack reduces the effectiveness of CC by a % until it reaches max stacks and becomes totally immune.

what you’re saying here is partly true and has been suggested by me and many others for over a year now.

I do agree and it has been said for a long time that defiant & unshakable are negating way to much CC. it has needed rework for a long time.

but I also understand it is there to prevent this! from happening.

personally,

if after ferocity, zerker is still the best way to clear a dungeon fast, that’s what I will keep wearing.

if after ferocity, the best way to clear a dungeon becomes (for example) condition damage, no problem I will hop on one of my other characters (i have all classes at 80 and geared for this very reason) and adjust accordingly.

If suddenly necro becomes the best speed clear profession for dungeons, that’s what I will be doing them in.

See, adjust and move on

And lo, the meta is being forcibly rearranged. I don’t think speed runners are wrong to do what they do in the current environment. I think they just better get used to the idea the Devs are going to keep hammering on that environment until that strategy is no longer sound.

even if they nerf it to the ground the new speed running will simply be
let’s figure out which team comp gives us the best possible clear time now that pure beserker parties have gone the way of the dinosaur. (not that that would ever happen)

Yeah… No.

Amongst the 3 million players in this game there are far more than enough people who are both detail oriented and very vocal that nothing like that is going to slip by unnoticed.

Its not a question of “did or did not a mouse fart in the back corner of Caledon Woods?” It’s a question of “If the mouse’s fart changed pitch by one note, how many seconds would elapse before someone is on the forum demanding to know ‘what happened and why isn’t there a patch note?!??’?”

I hope that is true about the detail oriented people ratio 3:1

and thanks for the colorful example it was hilarious hahahahahahahaha

right now: having 1 person not be zerker is a tolerable DPS loss.
with ferocity: 1 person playing clerics or knights will be a major DPS loss.

possible zerker community response ?

more gear checks less toleration towards none zerker builds to compensate for the HUGE DPS loss !

true, this conversion has deeper meaning behind it but…

if they were gonna reduce it by more than 10% right now they would not have gone on record and say it’s an overall 10% reduction.

I’m not going to say that particular statement was a BALDFACED LIE, but lets just say their idea of “the average player” who will suffer only a 10% loss in damage is wholly unrelated to the population of Guildwars 2 . People spec’d for condition damage might be getting off that lightly, but nobody both 80th level and actively geared for power-based damage is going to see losses that small…

if the overall coefficient remains 15 ferocity = 1% crit dmg outside of traits yes it will be an overall 10% loss.

however,

as I demonstrated before they can just as easily adjust the coefficient from say 15 to 18 = 1% crit damage, most would be none the wiser as all they see is oh 225 ferocity

If they were content to reduce crit damage contribution from 30 points in the trait lines by 1/3 you’d better believe they’re willing to apply the same coefficient to food and banners… We’ll see when we get there, but don’t think for a moment it couldn’t happen.

true, this conversion has deeper meaning behind it but…
if they were gonna reduce it by more than 10% right now they would not have gone on record and say it’s an overall 10% reduction.

what I’m truly afraid of right now is that this new crit dmg style allows them to adjust the coefficient in secret and most of the population would not really notice.

right now:

crit displays percentage, it is hard to hide a nerf to it, because even if you did a 1% reduction, people would notice instantly.

with ferocity:

they can adjust the coefficient to 18 ferocity = 1% crit damage and since your ferocity value hasn’t changed, unless you were really into numbers you wouldn’t notice.

imagine:

15 coefficient
225 ferocity = 15% crit dmg

a.net guys we need to nerf crit damage further, clever dev says, well just lower the coefficient even further now that it is a stat instead of a percentage we can do that easy (dev laughts evily)

18 coefficient
225 ferocity = 12.5% crit dmg

this is my true fear with ferocity

  • Banner of discipline (170 precision and 15% critical damage/170 ferocity)
  • Spotter (150 precision)
  • Food (100 precision and 10% critical damage/70 ferocity)

You’re assuming that the conversion to ferocity is gonna a simple rewrite of values and not a true conversion, you’re also assuming that everything is gonna be nerfed when they have said only crit dmg from traits is going to see a nerf

what I mean is this:

  • Banner of discipline (170 precision and 15% critical damage/170 ferocity)
in proper conversion not just translation it would be 15×15= 225 ferocity not 170 as you claim.

same for food:

  • Food (100 precision and 10% critical damage/70 ferocity)
in proper conversion not just translation it would be 15×10= 150 ferocity not 70 as you claim.

if you do the proper conversion instead of assigning the same value as precision, you end up with only a 10% nerf from traits just as they said it would be.

But the charr race is making that difficult !

That 10% crit dmg loss can be covered with consumables, so zerker will still be meta until a whole lot more changes are made to make it necessary or desirable to take someone in clerics, condi or defensive gear.

take useless or otherwise excess materials from the playerbase in trade for other items.

Sound familiar ?

Now normally I don’t mind making things harder, but 250 of each ascended refined mat is pretty insane.

consider coding time and implementation, by the time they do implement it a lot of people would have an insane excess of such materials, lowering the amount would make it to easy.

EDIT
also for consideration is the fact that a TP precursor costs in excess of 600g.
to keep that option viable precursor crafting has to be laborious yet attainable for those willing to pursue it.

My LFG post for AC:

p-1-2-3,zerker,80,speedrun,heavy,stacking,no kohler.

pretty straight forward right ?

guess not,

What I got was a bunch of people wishing I didn’t notice they wanted to be carried.

got,

  • a guard that doesn’t know how to use wall, didn’t know how to lure boss in p2 or lure spiders in queen fight, I’m like WTH ?
  • got a warrior that didn’t know how to stack, kept dying all over the place and didn’t read party chat when I tried to explain so we could salvage the run.

after a bit I politely said, this is not what I was looking for and to please read the LFG post before entering party to avoid awkward situations.

some things were said to me, I brushed them off, leave party and proceed to block both the guard and the warrior.

I post my LFG again.

same warrior keeps trying to get into my party, I request a kick, it is granted after I explained what was going on to other party members, but this guy just keeps applying to the party on the LFG over and over, we had to kick him like 5 times before he gave up, I’m like WTH !

I say when you block someone they should not be able to apply to your LFG posts at all !

Just this alone has me jumping and squeeling all over the place imagine all the other goodies this update will have

  • The button to instantly refund all traits, previously seen only in structured PvP areas, has become game-wide.
  • Refunding traits is now free across the game: refund your traits any time you’re not in combat or in a competitive PvP match!
  • A minus button has been added to each trait line directly below the plus button, which allows you to remove a single trait point at a time.

Plus acquiring traits out in the open world via actual activity sounds a lot like skill capture in GW1, which was awesome <3

The sad part, but I guess it’s needed, is that you can also buy the skill instantly from the trainer if you want to.

provided you have enough skill points and gold and whatever else they decide to ask for :P

Yah i know that….but man we didn’t want to face role anything.

Seems you need to be elite player or something to kill some spiders.

Man this isn’t my first time in raiding i’ve raided in WOW and Aion and Tera and even Lineage 2 back in the day and it was fun……This isn’t sadly.

This kind of talk reminds of when the game 1st launched, so many people saying dungeons are to hard, now they are faceroll easy why ?

you should know the answer to this if as you said you’re a raider.

it comes down to class and mechanics knowledge.

let me postulate this:

imagine you’re new to wow, aion and tera, now go into raiding in those games as a new player and see what happens, you’d get your toosh handed to you in seconds why ? because as a new player you wouldn’t know all the class and mechanic intricacies to be proficient at raiding, that takes time spent learning the game and it’s mechanics which you wouldn’t have as a new player.

Same principle applies to gw2.

you say you’re a raider yet you expect to face some of the arguably most difficult content the game has to offer without learning the intricacies of the mechanics or the classes, please give me a break !

you should’ve kept the fact you’re a raider to yourself, you kinda embarrassed yourself there.

So Peter, I see you made it out of Lion’s Arch.

Yes, but I skipped the grinding and zerging and decided to just kill Scarlet in the instance. I wanted to see if Arenanet managed to put a satisfying end to the story.

The verdict? Not so much. But like I said in my original post, at least they didn’t make the mistake of killing off these awesomely written principal characters at the hands of Scarlet. That would’ve just made me sad.

Now at least they can go forward and be involved in something better.

I feel sorry for yah, you skipped one of the best fights the game has to offer.
when I 1st logged in and got to stomp scarlet straight away I was like you gotta be kidding me I was disappointed, than I did it the right way and man that was epic.

The idea that you need all 3 buffs from all the asura colleges to deal decent damage was genius it kept the beserkers like me at bay.

the whole fight was just very well designed and properly thought out, going forward I’d love to see them evolve the game mechanics like this again.

EDIT
Tbh, the whole Idea of allowing people to skip the fight and go straight to stomping scarlet just because they had an aetherblade spinal blades back piece did NOT need to be in there
it cheapens and marginalizes the content.

Also, from a lore standpoint…why would the vendor disappear AT ALL?! Would these lost belongings and heirlooms that quite obviously were for the citizens of LA that lost the them all of a sudden not be wanted by the people who owned them?

if the vendor was suddenly removed w/o a warning like the mistake that happened with karma boosters some time ago I would be inclined to agree with you but……

everyone had in one way or another at least one way of finding out about this change with ample time, forums was NOT the only avenue, twitter also posted and was linked to the original warning, so was reddit.

As someone else posted already, it wasn’t on twitter…I can’t speak of reddit since I don’t go there either…but that still leaves only ONE avenue…the forum….and only ONE avenue within the forum…“news and announcements”.

Like I said earlier….had they actually made an effort to get this out there to the public….had they posted it on all the relevant forums, posted it on facebook, twitter, reddit, as well as on the logon splash screen…I would agree with you. But a single post on a single forum that is not even linked on the main forums is not taking advantage of “every avenue” to get the information out there for their customers.

I’ve seen companies make much more of an effort (and still fail to reach their customers)….but at least they made much more of an effort than this.

- I’m always on reddit, twitter and forums to keep me up to date on things.
- it was posted on reddit, twitter and forums, all linking to the same dev post. I don’t know about facebook since I use it only for personal stuff and 3 avenues of information is more than enough.

it’s the same thing !
asking for the merchant to be brought back is the same as asking for the heirloom to be brought back why ?

it will give you the ability to turn them in so you can get the now rare selfless or thoughtless potion.

the only reason they removed it i to make the item prestige go up now introducing it again nullifies that prestige.
