Heirloom merchant back for a day or two

everyone was racing and farming all over to try and get their heirlooms before the merchant was gone, now all of a sudden bringing it back because someone didn’t heed any warnings does nullify that effort.

I would be kittened if they did, and I assure you a lot of other people would be to !

Most players don’t bother with the forums. Those that do usually read something on them like once every several weeks. It’s not a reliable way to disseminate information.

it wasn’t just on forums mate.
twitter, facebook reddit every social media was pointing to the official post about the removal of the merchant, failing to read any of those there is also word of mouth, friends guildmates etc etc.

failing that, well I’m sorry but it’s your own fault.
asking for mine and everyone’s effort to be nullified because you failed to heed a warning is also NOT ok with me and it’s a bad idea.

you got warned and informed not once or twice, you were informed and warned a lot
yet still you didn’t do it.

The item has a rare status now because of it’s limited availability, if all of a sudden it became available again the other players that did put in the time needed to acquire this item would also feel alienated as if their effort is being nullified.

That has always been the idea behind GW2, you are not a DPS, or a tank, or a healer, or even GW2s controller role. Every build is (ideally), to be a lesser or greater degree of each. Now is that system working perfectly? I would give a resound ‘Nope’ in answer to that. But hopefully it improves with time, and the trinity would not be an improvement, but a devolution of the system. This is after all a system nobody else has even tried since the birth of MMOs.

Is the system working perfectly ?

I also agree it is not working perfectly, proven by the dominance of the Beserker play style.
But to say or suggest in any way, shape or form that the unholy trinity was better is just grose.

The 1st thing that makes it so you have to DPS down or die is the flawed defiant mechanic, negating 99% of all effective CC negates almost all control out of the player’s hands. I understand why they implemented it but it was a rushed system that needs to be addressed pronto.

The 2nd is the massive amount of one hit shots Bosses have in this game, I won’t go to deep into that one but, it makes defensive builds completely useless hence the Beserker play style is predominant.

maybe not so much of it in zerg content like open world PVE and WvW but….
there is teamwork in sPVP and in dungeons.

problem is people think the only teamwork is trinity style teamwork until they take off the blindfold from trinity and look at gw2 with new eyes they will never ever see it, people are to set in their old ways, if we all were like that we’d still be using dial up modems and no one would have a cell phone.

I miss it a lot, there was SO MUCH MORE teamwork using the trinity in GW1 compared to the zerg-fest in GW2, not to mention better optimization/utilization of many areas of the game.

Saying the trinity is teamwork based makes absolutely no sense. You are not even working with your teammates, you have a job and they have a job you each do completely autonomously of each other. The only aspect in which it could be considered team play is that you are all in the same place at the same time.

interesting point you raised there, from that point of view there is a lot more teamwork in gw2 than in trinity based combat, you’re always trying to buff your allies as much as you can while maintaining a decently high DPS, you’re always looking around for the unexpected down or whoever needs help, instead of the blindfolded rotations play of the trinity combat.

because the bosses all act random, you cannot control the fight.

Funny you should mention that.

what was always boring to me in holy trinity is how you always knew what the boss was gonna do (highly scripted fights) and even if it did something unexpected you had the braindead threat generation skills of the tank to draw all attention to himself.

I highlighted the word random in your post because this is what makes boss fights interesting in gw2 you cannot control the boss that in my book is a plus point sir.

Holy trinity:

Thief is destroying the boss from behind but the boss doesn’t pay any attention to him he just keeps pounding the meat shield gorilla screaming in front of him (aka threat generating skills)

Gw2:

the boss will decide who to attack and who to ignore based on rules we do not yet understand, it may choose to attack the highest damage dealer in the group or the one with less armor, simply screaming in the boss’s face aka threat generation gets you no where since there is no such kitten stupid skills in gw2.

I welcome this randomness in place of boring holy trinity combat where nothing unexpected that is not written into the highly scripted boss fight ever happens.

Funny,

- 1st it was: a.net please do something about melee dps predominance I want to play ranged dps to, blah blah blah blah.
- Now it’s: a.net please do something about ranged dps predominance I wanna play melee dps to, blah blah blah blah.
- a.net please there are no roles do something about it.

How about:

- Learn the way it’s meant to be played.
- risk vs reward, melee vs ranged.
- yes, there are roles but you gotta crawl out of the holy trinity mentality to discover them.

The differences in the China client are not “testing the waters.”

Those level-up restrictions they have in place are likely requirements by KongZhong to guide a player through the different intricacies and systems of Guild Wars 2.

and to make it harder for the legendary CN players to farm obscene amounts of gold to easily, remember you can exchange gold to gems and vise versa.

The gameplay changes are merely a reflection of the play style there, however I do understand the outrage about the dreaded VIP thing, which is not canon for gw2.

Yes, I do agree with you that the LS was not what I was hoping for, for one single reason: replayability new players cannot go back and play past LS content, if I wasn’t playing since release I would’ve never picked up the game for this reason alone.

No. The more experienced the player, the less reliant they are on toughness and vitality in PvE. I don’t want a perfectly functional mechanic spoiled because OP is too lazy to learn the mechanics of the game.

Discuss.

This is a horrible idea on many levels and would kill the game. Most casuals can barely dodge as it is, forcing them into PVT to get more out of a dodge would just lead them getting worn down and dying.

If you are trying to advocate for full cleric runs just say so and stop beating around the bush.

Active damage mitigation in gw2 makes it possible to avoid 100% of the damage

No it doesn’t, nobody has that many dodges. Yep, not even S/d or S/p thieves!

Player’s have to soak up small amounts of damage. Berserker/Assassins are an available stat because of a player skill curve, as players learn the game they become less reliant on crutches that are toughness and vitality – because they use their dodges appropriately to dodge the powerful attacks which are often highly telegraphed.

Don’t try and force people to use these stats just because you are not good enough to learn the mechanics yet.

Don’t try and force people to use these stats just because you are not good enough to learn the mechanics yet.[/quote]

Wrong assumption

if you’d care to see my posting history you’d know I play zerker and do know my mechanics and the likes, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing wrong with the way one stat combination dominates everything in the game at this point.

Sorry but no. If I dodge something I should not get any damage at all. If I get any damage, then it’s not dodging.

when you dodge you don’t always make it outside the effective area of damage.
from that perspective, even if you do aka dodge you would and should take damage.
you wanna mitigate 100% of the damage ? make it to the outside of the affected area

think of glancing blows and the likes if it helps.

Latinkuro.9420

Active damage mitigation in gw2 makes it possible to avoid 100% of the damage without investing in any kind of toughness or armor defense whatsoever.

My proposal

Adaptive Active Damage Mitigation

it’s simple really,
make dodge tie into the character’s toughness and armor rating.
Dodging would have a base damage mitigation of say 35-50%
For any higher damage mitigation you’d need to invest in toughness, armor and vitality.
up to say 75-80% damage mitigation via dodging.

What this change would do:

- it would make zerk only parties a lot harder, dare I say impossible since even dodging would not mitigate 100% of the damage and since zerkers do not invest in any kind of defense they would rapidly melt down.
- it would make defensive based play both desired and interesting to play.

My 2 cents.

Discuss.

EDIT

the numbers and formula’s are nothing but an example, I do believe wholeheartedly that the idea is a sound one.
It’s up to the professionals to figure out the correct ratios and so on as to not give high armor classes an advantage over light armor classes.

EDIT2

This is funny, anytime anyone (in this case me) brings up the obvious issues with current game mechanics, people immediately assume (oh he plays clerics or pvt and wants to feel welcome in this zerker meta)

I play zerker warrior, guardian, elementalist and mesmer.
I love them all but…..
That doesn’t mean I do not recognize the issues present in the game when one stat combo dominates all.

Let’s be practical here. This just shows why the WARRIOR needs to be toned down. People defending they aren’t op, they either have a warrior character, or think other class are underpowered.

I main a warrior and let me tell yah a little secret.
the reason warrior is preferred is not because it is the highest damage dealer in the game, it just so happens that warriors have high enough damage that can be pulled off a lot easier than others, and we do not die as easily.

I’m now playing an elementalist and the crap I pull of with my elementalist is a lot crazier than what I can pull with my warrior, I just have to be a bit more aware of my surroundings and chain skills that is all.

From my perspective when I’m on my elementalist I’m grinning and saying to myself, and they call us warriors OP, yeah right !
