Well there is no such thing as best weapon overall. There is just best weapons for certain things.
Focus is great it has burst, life generation, boon removal and regen.
But there is 2 reasons why is use dagger in my power build.
1. My build has enough dmg cause its glass cannon, i have passive spinal shivers in build, i already has enough ways to generate life force, BUT it lacks survibility and is weak against CC cause i use dagger. Offhand dagger provide both these things, you can play PVP 2 ways, just max one thing and try to get cheesy kills when people dont counter you OR make overall balanced build that is hard to be countered but need more work to get kills, so dagger is my preference utility wise.
If i would play with different traits or amulet and my build would lack damage i would consider focus more.
2. But the MAIN reason. You look cool as f! There is no point in killing people if you dont look cool while doing it.
Look good.
Feel good.
Play good.
The real question is will the feature patch be good enough?
I really cant imagine how their gonna ship this patch without naming it expansion and selling seperately. I mean it takes 4 months already and will be 1-2 more till it arrives.
I really doubt there can be anything in the patch to approve a half year of waiting.

Why did you buy the recipe for Tailor that requires Damask? Armorsmith/Leatherworker would have been a billion times cheaper (and it makes 0 difference which profession you use to craft it).
I thought it would be better to level tailor for necromancer than leatherworker or armorsmith, kitten me right?
I have used like 100 different items to get this backpack, sorry i didnt check every single items price before starting.
But common sense somehow didnt let me assume that one ingredient will cost me more than getting profession to 500 and making 4 previous versions of the backpack.
Why does a pvper need ascended items?

Its the perfect back item for my WvW gear! One thing i wanted in this game, after 1.5 years of playing it. Is 1.5 years enough to earn one kitten shiny backpack that perfectly fits you? NO! I was shocked when i realised that it will cost me more than 100 gold for this backpack, but now im just speechless… if i would know that crafting one item costs 400 gold i would never even consider starting it.

As PVPer now i have spent everything i had to get 450 tailor + exotic version of spinal blades +farmed all those ascended materials. So month of gametime + 100 gold and i thought im almost done with it.
Then i understood to get last 50 levels + 15 bolt of damask is at least another 250 gold!
IVE NEVER EVEN SEEN 200 GOLD!
If you put a fancy backpack then you could at least say that approximate cost will be 400 gold + long time of trying to get ascended materials instead of expecting that everyone gotta sit down with calculator for hour and calculate the cost of everything.
So thanks for wasting everything i had saved up for… 450 tailor… now i can at least have some bloodstone bricks in my back while roaming wvw or doing pvp, cause obviously im not even halfway to getting the backpack i wanted.
I play power necro mostly now and condi necro occasionally, but i play my own version of power build and very often people either ask me about my choices in my build or even say that my build is bad.
Why? Because most people cant think outside of box in this game and i chose more sustained and survibility over maximum DPS that my build could provide.
My damage is not bad in any way, but some people just dont get that this is no PVE and not always your damage will be that kills enemy.
The high condi warr population is because the spec is very effective in bad players , if it is big problem for you then just learn as much as possible about them and figure out ways how to counter them.
I really like the idea behind deathshroud so i would be sad if they gave us a different class mechanic. But i agree that the implementation is somewhat lacking.
It is awesome mechanic, its the reason why i rolled and stayed necro. The thing is that whole class is balanced with the idea that every 10 second we can jump into deathshroud, it happens quite rare that you have 0 life force but when it does happen the class is completely broken.
You loose interrupt, cc, damage, mobility, condition, burst and if you are traited for some DS trait then it only gets worse.
I play daggers now so if im locked in my dagger set i need to be in melee range to get life force, but to get in melee range i need life force.
Or for example i must take soul marks, why? Because i cant hit thief with my melee dagger or with staff autoattack cause its projectile, so i am forced to take trait + waste my marks on hes dodges just so i have enough life force to enter DS so i can cc him and hit with my dagger or staff nr1.
Basicly the fact that you need to always think how to get minimum life force cripples the class in pvp.Either you need to make it so necro can always jump into ds every 10 second or add load of rabbits to kill in every pvp map.
A nice reasonable fix would be to allow us to go into DS with zero life force for a second, to allow access to a single DS skill (or DS3 + one of any other available skill). Also a nice boost to people who take flashing traits.
My personal preference would be to see this and the “0” tick of DS to be traited in SR for taking no damage for that one second the DS is timing out. I don’t think it would be overpowered as long as it was a master level trait. To be honest… this was sort of how it used to work anyhow with no traits. (no oveflow)
Heaven forbid someone might have to time a skill carefully against a necro because he would have some limited immunity.
I think beeing able to enter death shroud is a must without any traits, any pvp necro (beside maybe mm) is already forced to spend 20 points in SR just to get some life force.
Just had another team pvp game where i literally was chasing around mesmer clones just so i can get some life force and help my team on middle without getting one shotted.
Soloque takes no skill, team que takes no skill, 1v1 takes no skill. Why? Because no rewarards = no competition. But it does take skill to play good this game, good cooldown management and not wasting dodges do benefit you, but as there is no competition there is no point mastering the game cause it really doesnt matter if you are 1st or 100th on leaderboards.
If they add seasons + good rewards (arena gear sets for example), then people will actually put effort into playing better than others.
Maybe it does`nt take skill to kill newbies with warrior but it definetly takes skills to actually play the class good, otherwise soloque wouldnt be filled with these garbage warrs.Saying it takes no skill currently is incorrect. Only the best player in the game at every class can make that claim. If for necro it is you, then point taken.
Where you are definitely correct is in saying that more people will increase the competition level. That is quite true and the reason we need as many new PvP people as possible. The new rewards are going to be key. If it just ends up being that we can get more PvE gear as a result of PvP, I’d consider that even worse than the current system.
Many “top players” are on top not because they are good but because they really want to be on top. 5 average players with good setup can grind their way to top but 5 pros who occasionally do few games wont get far because most of time they will only face bad teams.
Im not saying it doesnt take skills or anything, but if the game would be more competetive then many of todays “top players” would be alot lower.
There are still players in top 100 who random dodge around, waste skills while blinded/on blocks, doesnt know all crucial skills of other classes etc.
But current ranking system just doesnt force people to master their play.
Ofcourse people who are on top currently deserve to be on top, cause they put more effort into it than others but i am pretty sure that if anet fires up the competition then its highly possible that players who are better start to put effort into it and take away their ranks.

The actual answer is somewhere in the middle. Far point should be pushed depending on what is going on in the map. Teams need to adjust strategy based on what is happening.
You should always tell people not to go far. Why? Because bad players think they will be cool lone wolfs and gonna carry team by going far and either fighting 1v1 without decapping or just die.
Once player has played enough this game he will understand himself when to go far and when not and noone will ever tell him “dont go far” because every time he goes there it will either get decapped, fully capped or he is gonna kill someone.
But please kitten dont encourage new players to go far cause people dont deserve to loose million times till someone learns when to go far and when not.
Same with these “decap engi so OP”, you even know how many decap engis i kill on daily basis that think they are gonna be white knights and carry their team by going far? Do they understand that they will not get far after i kill them and help their team on other point? No they just go and die on far 5 more times.You kill them with what exactly?
I play power necro mostly in soloque, and bad decap engi is kitten easy because most of my burst is autoattack, ye i need 2nd player to kill good decap engi but bad ones who just randomly dodge around are super easy.
The d/d power spec i play really counters decap engi, getting him to 25% is quite easy with unblockable chill + immobilize + corrupt boon, and then when he is immune to condis i just finish him with either my autoattack or my 2 channeled burst attack.
Only way he can survive me is with good timed dodges and knockbacks but very few engis actually know how to play it.

Ok i have waited like half year since last i wrote this.
But must say this again – if you are going to balance the whole class around beeing able to enter death shroud then make it so we are always able to enter death shroud when its off cooldown.
Make it something like you can enter death shroud for 2 second when have no life force (even tho as hero of tyria i should have some life force as long as im alive right?)
Im just sick of having to summon/kill minions before every tournament match, or just that i need to damage downed enemy more just to generate life force.
Today i had to sit in clocktower and shoot necrotic grasp at wall (yes clocktower walls generate LF), just cause enemy team had pistol whip thief and if he catches me without life force im dead.
Why the hell just because i didnt autoattack wall 4 times i deserve to be without class mechanic when facing enemy.
Maybe start to listen then? Just 2 days ago i took the 2 minutes to explain where everyone should go what to do what not to do and why.
Noone says anything, game starts and everyone does completely opposite, i tried to adapt to their “tactic” but if you play with complete tools then there is nothing to do.
If your intelligence is below any human norm i can only explain that you are doing something wrong in only way non-humans understand it.
And that is by very harshly describing your intelligence, life and family status.
When i first time started to do arenas i already had 100+ hotjoin game experience. Why? Because i respect my fellow players and didnt want to enter game without prior knowledge and drag my team down.
The game is not balanced around 1v1, if you rely on one overpowered mechanic that basicly carries you to victory then you will get flamed.
Normally noone even flames good players who play tourney builds, its the bads who just figure out some overpowered mechanic and try to abuse it that get flamed.
Like in your case you probobly used shadow rejuvenation as grand master trait in shadow arts, which makes good player unkillable in 1v1.

Well for someone who never farmed anything and hit rank 50 just liek week ago i would want some reward if you make ranks less meaningful or at least some LUBE
No brainer, 30/20/0/0/20. Dhuumfire + terror. Most powerful build there is. Back in my day i used this build and called it hybrid but now its default “condition” build. Staff + scepter and dagger(works with warhorn too) + plague. You can experiment around with traits according to your preference main thing is just take Dhuumfire as grandmaster in spite and terror as master in curses + rabid amulet. Cant go wrong with this combo.
You normally would want to go with same utilities as in my power build, if you are really desperate and want “IWIN” button in 1v1s then you can take Signet of Spite.
Oh in my last version with speed runes i used well of power, but i have returned to my original build (only berserker amulet instead of barb).
Lyssa runes and 2 teleports is just crucial for survibility with this build, and golem lets you get off some nice cc+burst chains.
Till you really get grip of the build i think easiest would be speed runes + well of power instead of spectral walk.
Spectral walk and lyssa is better for high ranked play same as berserker amulet but barbarian is easier till you learn to generate life force nicely enough to survive with it.

Main problem with power necro atm is that it is in no way better than condi necro.
Condi necro has better dmg, survival, utility and is easier to play.
Power necro is not bad, but theres no reason for team to take one.

The trick of the build is that it has no real counters, you dont rely on lich form nr1 spam, you do great dmg in death shroud, you do great dmg outside it with daggers, you got bleed and burn so you dont rely all on direct damage, you got spammable life force generation on both weapon sets etc. etc.
It isnt top dps build or anything, but if you rely on one thing then its easy to counter you.
edit: oh ofcourse 2 main factors are that as many people have said its fun to play and you look like ninja with dem 2x daggers
Yes and no.
1. There is many easy to use skills that people dont know how to counter, yet is still problem at low skill levels because if one class requires 1 button and other class requires piano lessons then obviously the first one will kill everyone.
2. There is skills that are almost uncounterable, i personally atm have only one problem in this game – shortbow 3, give me suggestions if you have.
So far ive tried to counter timing – time between evades, doesnt work because bad thiefs spam it randomly and unpredictably, good thiefs spam it when they see that i am casting something.
Try to preassure thief so much that he runs out of initiative – well the problem is that my class runs on cooldowns, and only thing i can spam enough is auttoattack, which is projectile and melee attack, both of these he can avoid without even using nr3 sb.
So do you have some ideas how to counterplay shortbow? Cause i cant find any counters to EVADE.
This is most balanced mmorpg there is on market.

Mesmers are great in team fights, they have mobility, stealth, invuln and ranged damage + support.

Mesmers have only combat mobility. Not very useful in conquest. Stealth isnt very useful in team fight, because they wont focus mesmer anyway. We not dealing any good aoe dmg or giving any vital support. We good at 1v1 fights, but…to slow at killing enemy in conquest mode. So…. we not bunkers. We not roamers, we not dps, we not support.
We have different definitions of team fight i think. How many game experience and at what ratings have you played?

You just need to start thinking outside of box and stop pigeonholing yourself. You have enough mobility to decap when needed, you have cc to help bring someone down, you have cc to help ressurect, you have invulnerability to stomp, you have aoes to abuse those on node. And you still have damage. Mesmer has the same role in team as thief.

I wanted to be duelist. Smth like control/debuff/dps. What had mesmers become? Just some brainless support class.
You should be happy that teams are forced to take you for unique utility, yes you are forced to take portal, but i am forced to take corrupt boon to remove stability, and flesh wurm to just get out of burst. Yet team can just replace me with thief for these 2 things.
Every class is forced to take something to benefit most for their team but it doesnt neutralize their other functions. Or you want to say that 55 hp monks only benefit from Misha is hes portal? If yes then you havent seen him play.
@ garetth: I think there is slight chance that if people would put effort in to asking more customization options for custom servers instead of new game modes then anet might consider it.

No balance:
This is just wrong, the game is fairly balanced for a game with so many different aspects that affect balance. I can surely say that its more balanced than WoW, and i refuse to believe that there was no balance issues in GW1.
Forced to play specific build TO STAY COMPETETIVE:
Obviously you already understand yourself that you can play whatever you want if you arent going for the top 50, there will always be one thing better than another and to be best you must play best thing there is. A very rough example: Condition necro vs Condition engi, if you want your team to have overpowered condition dealer ofcourse you will bring necro, if your team has overpowered condition damage already, you will surely consider bringing condition engineer instead cause he can provide more team support and more control.
Nothing is beeing done, the game is becoming more boring and dying: There is alot of changed, the game is more alive than it was and more fun.
We had no leaderboards, no spectator, no custom arenas when i was in mists i had 3 choices, play tourneys, play hotjoin or sit afk. Now i can do soloque or team que, spectate how others duel/2v2, duel/2v2 myself, do hotjoins (which are actually were different than they were at start of the game), try to get certain place on leaderboards, guest to another servers to just chill out with my friends (there wasnt even guesting at start)
Same with balance, anyone remember the state of necros, warriors at start of game? Can you now say that necro or warr is insta loose in tourney? Yes elementalist and engi now are problematic but they are still in better shape than some classes were at start, heck i even prefer solid elementalist on my team over random thief or warrior.
There is balance issues but they are smaller than at start. (and thats why i want anet to put more effort into balancing current state of game instead of focusing on new game mode)
To hell with balance we just want more fun: F you! I quitted WoW and bought GW2 (even tho it took 6 different people to change my mind that GW2 will be worse mmo for PVP). Balance is what makes games fun for me, i like mastering the thing i play instead beeing average at multiple different things. Maybe if all you care is new things then you should check out WoW now and you can make it in time for their new expansion that will implement new things and f over their current “balance”.

I am dark bad kitten killer irl so i obviously rolled necromancer cause their design suggested that they are good for this, if i would prefer even less moving around and more protecting others aka bunkering, then reading skill tooltips and using common sense would be enough to understand that guardian is better for it.
You want to be as good bunker on thief as on guardian? Well then they have to make guardian as good roamer as thief.
On the game mode:
I think we all can agree that conquest works, can someone at least give CONSTRUCTED suggestion of another gamemode? One guy in this topic says we need deathmatch another guy says " I hope they are not stupid enough to think making deathmatch is a good idea."
I could go on compromise that new game mode is not horrible idea, but my little doesnt know and cant figure out new game mode that could work with the game mechanics anet has created.
And btw i thought we had WvW for those who dont like conquest and want something completely different and unbalanced.
Even if anet said they will consider new game mode, how do you know that they havent scrapped this horrible idea? Everyone asked for new game mode they didnt make completely new game mode but they made Spirit Watch, many people (me including dislike this map) so what makes it bad? The fact that its still conquest in basics or the fact that it has capture the flag secondary mechanic?
It is obvious that best GW2 pvp maps are the ones that are closest to pure conquest mode.
Ok, i couldnt care less. There will be no new game mode cause it is bad for game, bad for pvp community and so on.

You think we need new game mode, i think they need to put more support into the game mode for which this game was designed.
I havent heard any plans about implementing new game modes but i have heard that they plan to redesign reward system and add seasons.

Edit: kitten you need to start using brain and understand that if they add deathmatch then they are responsible for it, if they give you tools to create deathmatch then they are not responsible for your created deathmatch not working properly.

Nice timing, i just created topic about how we dont need new game modes.
So new games modes is reason to whine since forever. They should never happen, and hopefully wont happen.
The game is created for conquest starting from very basics. If anet would ever try to support new game mode they would just destroy balance in conquest.

Deathmatch? Impossible to balance in mmo, blizzrd have proven this with wow arenas and they have alot more resources.
Capture the flag? Imagine killing bunker or decap engi when he is not forced to stand on point.
MOBA? …anyone who thinks that this planet needs another moba game doesnt deserve to live on it.
There is loads and loads of whining about balance issues in conquest, and we all see how fast anet is with implementing balance changes, new game would just double communities dissapointment.
I dont want to hear whining about how i am whining about other people whining, sooo i will throw out fast idea i had.
We have 1v1, 2v2 servers etc. They are unbalanced, but noone comes and complain about it on forums because everyone understands that its not anets problem and they arent balancing game around it.
So imo they could just create Sandbox Servers and sell them for gems, they dont have to be anything complicated just the basic things we already have on conquest maps: jump pads, orb, cannon, trebuchet, nodes, trees, some buildings etc.
With these tools our creative community could make any game mode they want and anet wouldnt be responsible for the balance issues in it.
Dont like my idea suggest something your own, but i am almost 100% sure that there will be no new game mode, cause then anet has to decide either redesign whole game basics or accept that their pvp is completely imbalanced.

Ye exactly, i followed rules the arenanet made, now you try to change the rules multiple turns later, why i should suffer from the fact that i did what game devs told me to do?
If you wanted them to not remove glory boosters then you had to make boycott when they announced it and i would join on it, now i will do everything to pull you with me for letting them drown me in first place.
Edit: Noone cared about glory boosters in first place, now when someone figured out that you could get something for them with no effort, everyone cries about how hard it was to accept free glory boosters.

Well maybe PVP is very hard for me and i would prefer 100 glory per booster for doing nothing instead of doing PVP, they said use them so i basicly all the time stacked 10 hours so i dont have to worry about it, who knows how many of them got wasted in my time of afk or doing something different than PVP.

Competition, thrill of fight. Everyone can read boss mechanics and kill them, everyone can do damage on that gate or follow commander and listen when to spam that skill.
But it pvp its all up to you, you suck then you suck, people will destroy you, your team will loose and theres noone who can help you, no waypoint to recover from loose in pvp.

Try recording your gameplay and then review it, you will understand that you play alot worse then you think.
Its not about game balance anymore its about devs telling BS straight in your face then saying its not like that.
Even if in the end they confirm that “maintenance patch” includes balance updates in it what does it matter? The community is raging for more than 5 hours even if they lied to us they have enough time to create 10 new balance patches.
The faith is lost already.

Ive asking/reading about these mysterious patches so much today that i even learned to spell “maintenance” without thinking twice.
The funny thing will happen when 18th hits and theres no balance update. (ofcourse i dont know this cause after million times asking we just know that instead of mysterious feature build its gonna be the mysterious maintance build w/e that means)
Ok active forums readers know this cause its getting spammed all day long but casual gw2 pvper who just follows what devs say is completely sure that there will be balance improvements XD
You will not get an answer because before a dev can write up a response they will be unfairly bashed by the rabid sPvP community
I don’t understand why they seemingly choose to respond to the nastiest and unproductive comments and while simultaneously ignoring everyone who is asking legitimate questions nicely.
You’ve got 6 people wanting a simple Yes/No answer a very simple question, yet we get a response to WoW vs GW2? A bit disappointing…
Isn’t learning how to deal with (or simply just ignoring) trolls and negative people (which will exist in every online community) an essential trait for community interaction and public relations?
Now we have 3 new topics created all asking the same thing because of one bad apple. What’s the point of that?
I am quite sure they wont answer this question just so they are not obligated to do anything, its like those cheesy companies that doesnt sign anything so you cant sue them afterwards.
If they decide they want to release the balance patch they are gonna say “we already told you there is gonna be maintance patch and talked about these changed in stream” if they decide to delay few more months they just gonna say “this aint no feature patch we never said anything about them coming on 18th”

I cant find any definitions of maintenance patch and feature patch so if you create your own termins then you make the rules what is what.

Wow…. for a year i tell to everyone who complains about anet that they are good game company who care about their customers etc. etc.
But now it really feels like they just dont give us information just so they are never wrong.
I dont understand if i got slapped so i wake up from dream or i was slapped because i deserved it.
I keep telling myself that things will get better and anet is just learning because gw2 is new game etc. but if i think about it then ive been telling myself it for 1.5 years now.
I dont even care about weather there will be anything in march or not im just kittened that anet made me a liar.

This like changes my views on decap engi, if some people are so terrible on other classes then maybe such thing as decap engi is required after all.
Yes ok noone thought that you will release seasons and new pvp rewards all we care about is the balance improvements that you talked about like month ago on your stream.
