As i wrote in your other thread i run something similar.
I think the base for this kind of builds is 0/5/0/25/25 and you have 15 points to custom it.
I choose to put 10 points in domination to gain even more phantasm damage or mind wrack damage (i usually go with the first one and change if i need high burst in short time). I also like 30 in illusions and go for iPersona or another useful trait (iElasticity, dazzling glamours).
Im not sure if i should invest more points in dueling for phantasmal fury instead of empowered illusions. I dont find sharper images and DE a must.

You are right about the aoe effectiveness.
when you speak about 1vs1, mirror blade becomes optimal at close range (as you said) but spatial surge will do less damage. Im wondering if its worth it to go closer to cast an optimal mirror blade and deal less damage with spatial surge or stay ranged and deliver less damage with mirror blade.
Going close often mean higher risks also, the less damage on spatial surge adds to it.

Mirror blade is arguably one of the best skills we have.
However, this skill is better the close you are to the enemy, especially with illusionary elasticity. And if you are close to the enemy, spatial surge will do less damage.

So you must stay 900+ away from the enemy to gain full effect from #1 but at the same time you must stay close to the enemy to let #2 hits 2/3 times the target

Whats the best way to use this weapon in your opinion? Would it be overpowered (or pointless) if spatial surge could do the same damage regardless of the range?

too bad that the group is taking you for your utility and not for your burst. having 3 reflects instead of 1, all of them having cd reduction, is kinda a huge deal…

I’m usually taken for my burst, actually. Also only 2 of those reflects are reliable, in my experience.

Different stokes for different folks.

I can believe you if you mean a combination of burst and utilities/support.
If not, you may want to reroll.

edit: uhm seems a bit rude, let me explain better: i agree that our burst is good (but not the best one) as its our sustained damage but its the ability to mix damage with strong aoe support that makes mesmers useful. if you only aim for burst there are better options out there.

I run a mix of the two builds, a bit weird i think. 10/5/0/25/30.
It allows me to quickly change the traits between more shatter oriented, phantasm or support although the base traits are phantasm damage plus aoe support with glamours.
Maybe its not the perfect one but i really enjoy it for the flexibility it provides.

Yes you must move that 5 points somewhere else, iPersona would be the best choice.
My best suggestion about shatter builds is to try and see if you like them. Its very bursty and i particularly like the combination of dazzling and shattered concentration.

Oh sword main hand is still viable, dont be discouraged from the nerfs.
Pve is overall simple so use what you like. We have so many useful weapons, you’ll change them frequently.
If you go for GS/staff you may want to carry a one handed sword in the inventory, as well as a focus or whatever you like. change weapon ooc is fast.

To be fair i think we are still the funniest class and i would still play my mesmer even with a gray slot instead of blurred frenzy.
Experiment, test, you’ll find some tweaks for your build and start to win again.
Also, if i understood the problem of that screen isnt the score but the popularity of necros and warriors. Nothing to complain about i add, they got some nice changes and people like nice changes.

S#3 Cripple on hit, Swap Immobilized. Even if miss, pistol #5 give stun. Please tell us any other class weapon set out there that has this many CC on Weapon Skill? S#2 before also give you Invulnerable, so BF is a SURE HIT if your target being CC, not to mention you can also activate Shatter instantly while being Invulnerable. Say for example, with Eles, if you are being CC, you can activate Shocking Aura to stop the melee burst but it NEVER works with Mesmer AT ALL. On top of everything else, like I mentioned bf on my post, other class Burst required a specific skill to get the burst off, so they can not be repeated until the main skill off CD which is normally NEVER under 10s. Mesmer Burst can be sued every 8s.. BF is too strong for such a skill with INSANSE short CD

now you need to get that anet didnt nerf the offensive side of the skill if they wanted to do it they would give it the thief s/p stun lock pistol whip treatment and make Illusionary Leap 0.5 immobilize and flat 15% dmg nerf,but they didnt they only wanted to nerf the defensive side alot of ppl agree it was over the top but they also think anet over did it that`s it.

There are changes every month, i think the best we can do is enjoy the good ones.
PU is an example, it was good before the patch and now is stronger.
If they change it (and with change i mean ruin it), we’ll find something new but for the moment is a good source of fun.

Lucky that u are still useful on small Scale, Eles is a joke when it comes to roam as well as a joke come to Zerg as well. The only thing I can see Eles being useful is being their farming Token bag.

You must be that kind of player that anet usually listen when they do balance changes.
Blurred frenzy has a counter in itself, you cant move while using it. Also, the target cant move away or the damage is null. I know different ways to avoid what you think is “the unavoidable combo” as a mesmer, other classes cant? I guess we should first nerf blurred frenzy, then start to nerf our various leaps, teleports, immunities and so on. This must be the solution, dont you think. A CD increase was probably needed (even if a lot of bursty skills are on a low cd), the double nerf is a bit too much.

If there are enemies near you its reliable. You dont need to go in combat to use it, just target something. Im not saying its the final solution for mesmers but it helps a lot with that kind of build and was even better with IC.

PU was strong before, it is even stronger now. The builds you guys are posting are the same build (or slight variations) of Flimp’s build pre-confusion nerf. Do a quick search.

The only difference is that more people realised how the chaos line can be strong with PU and started to think about builds that already exist. Here’s the build diversity, huh?

@Xavi before the patch you could trait staff to gain a very short phase retreat and use it to move ahead. It was efficient, now that i cant have DE-PU-IC ill have to think about it. You can also trait blink.

It’s still difficult as hell to create the right situation for it, but Feigned Surge on someone pushed against a wall really hurts now. And it was already more powerful than what most other classes could do. Sadly it’s a one-in-a-million setup, and this buff definitely improves it for “normal” use.

Uhm i dont know if you are speaking about mobs or players but with the first one is quite easy. Also some players are worst than mobs and deserve 10k+ damage from feigned surge.

if you put boons up I’ll take’em down, if you don’t boon yourself I’ll do more damage. If they did something similar for Mind Stab, it may actually be worth using in PvE.

Id really like a similar change for mind stab.

Anyone want to spend some words on COMPOUNDING celerity?

My thoughts? i was hoping for a trait revolution that allowed me to create some new builds, instead most of the changes are skills related and the only line i see more appealing is chaos but mostly for PU which was already strong and part of my builds.
I really need to test the new feigned surge damage tho, it should be outstanding!

For PvE, as long as the clones stay alive longer then IC isn’t needed. I believe a lot of builds relied on it because clones went down so quickly. The only ones that really need constant clone generation were shatter builds.

The patch has only been out for a couple hours. Try it out for a reasonable amount of time before automatically assuming things are horrible. Tweak your builds as well.

You miss a point. It works with skills like phase retreat, decoy and mirror blade (just to name some of them). It means overall less mobility, less survivability and less might stacking ability.

No i didn’t miss it. I commented about this in this thread or one of the dozen others. How often do you need to use them the instant they are available? If you’re someone that likes to mash/spam weapon skills then yes you may be disappointed.

Well of course i cant check every single post in the forum.
To answer your question, i want to spam mirror blade (with traited gs and iElasticity) in order to gain huge might stacks, vulnerability, damage and a clone that also means more might with shatters. Decoy is also something you may want to use as soon as its ready with the new PU buff, its still a skill that you want to be ready asap.
A fully traited phase retreat is also really nice to escape if you are chased by mobs/players. Im sure there are a lot of other examples as a lot of skills are included, im now thinking about feigned surge even if i didnt test it. you want to use it asap if you are chased underwater.

They failed to promote build diversity and they failed to buff our underwhelming skills (image, im really insulted about it). I waited this patch because i thought it was a good way to theorycraft, wrong.

i see some options:
1) berserker gear with the build you linked: you may want to try illusionary invigoration instead of precise wrack. its a common shatter build with torch as off hand.
Since you care about survivability you would want to use staff.
2) berserker gear with krispera’s traits: PU really helps your survivability and is really funny to play with. you lose some burst but you gain many defensive tools that allow you to use berserker gear without problems. When i play something like this build i use decoy/portal/blink as utilities. master of manipulation is a good choice if you dont use signets.
3) rabid gear with krispera’s traits with some changes: move 10 in domination into dueling and take deceptive evasion as well as traits like crippling/debilitating dissipation. i think you can also try confusing combatants and leave 5 points in illusion but i never tried this change.
staff clones will be your main source of damage, bleeding and burning will hurt a lot and you are really, really tough due to toughness and all the defensive tools you have. same utilities as point 2, a nightmare to catch.

this is for wvw, in pve you can go full berserker and its only a matter of practice. torch is less effective but if you like it i dont see any reason to change it.

Sorry if i dont care a lot about the damage on a golem as long as i hit 449 on a random risen.

In the first screen i use a common shatter build without phantasm traits. In the second one i use a phantasm build with both the damage traits.
Yes i used a PTV weapon, the only item that wasnt zerker when i did those screens (armor with ruby orbs, every ascended item with berserker stats). Does it justify a 449 damage and a 655 damage?
Yet sometimes it crits for 7500, without boons/conditions on the same mob it hits for 655. This is unrealiable, if i need to catch a foe i want to be sure the phantasm hits and for a decent amount of damage.

I dont really want to hit 12k with a phantasm but a bit of consistency would help.

What I see here is the “first hit” issue that I noted in my screenshots. Sometimes it looks like the first strike of iBerserker only hits once.

Oh no. I took the screenshots of the first hits to show that the mob health was “full” (minus the 600 dmg of course).
You can see a lot of 500-1000 hits after the initial attack, they are common.

It’s quite balanced, but most of the Mesmers in this thread can only see that they aren’t doing insane amounts of damage anymore.

Dont generalize.
As i said, sometimes it crits for 7500 (an insane amount if you ask me) and then 600 on the same mob.
Sometimes it eats people and sometimes they are barely touched by it. All those sometimes hurt me!

It wasn’t that it was imperfect so much as it made no sense. There is a difference between the two. Imperfect I will spend time to figure out. Gibberish, I will ask them to restate. He could send a minute of his valuable time and write something coherent. Perfection is not required.

It was particularly referred to the first answer, you only asked for a better explanation.
The post is coherent, maybe he didnt use the best terms. He spent gems for something that he doesnt use and his engineer must have a learned look everywhere. With his solution the gems arent wasted anymore and the engineer can kill things wearing what he paid for.
Again i have nothing against your post but i felt the first reply wasnt polite as yours.

Was playing around with my mesmer and seeing my izerker ht for a 4k finish on heavy armor. No glitches. However, I tried it with a different spec and the izereker missed sometimes. I identified the problem. Yes an untraited izerker is glitched but the great sword training trait stops it from failing and drastically increases damage. Hope this helps all. Now I’m enjoying my izerker XD

Sometimes you see big numbers, sometimes you do 500 damage with full zerker gear, sometimes you dont do damage. Trait or not trait.
Three attempts doesnt mean much and well, if you tried more than three times you were really lucky.

A very confused post.
I dont think you read the whole discussion, never mind the date of the posts. My last reply (the one you quoted) was for the phrase “I assume its a glamour because it acts as an ethereal field”. It was not from the op but from someone that did not read, again, the whole discussion.
Regarding mantras, you charge mantra of pain -> You can use power spike. It makes sense, you say some words (the mantra) and gain a skill from them.
Phantasmal haste can be misunderstood but wiki helps here, it works for phantasmal attacks. Weapon traits are a different thing, again it makes sense that if there is a phantasm in the skillset and the trait reduces the CDs of 20%, the phantasm skill cd will be affected.
For everything else I would just repeat what wads said, we can complain about some descriptions but most of them are ok.

For me, the problem with mantras is not the long cast time, but the fact that you’re usually iddle while recharging them. Ofc, you could use another mantra already charged, but maybe you’d waste charges on something you don’t want to use just to stay “active”.

The idea of recharging stacks each X seconds sounds right to me. Also I thing that while you’re casting them, you should have a side effect other than the increased armor if you invest your traits to get Protected Mantras. Something in the line of Empower, form guardian’s staff.

Let’s say that channeling your mantras would give you a boon or a benefit each X sec.
Mantra of Concentration -> Recharges your endurance bar
Mantra of Distraction -> Inflicts confusion on being hit
Mantra of Pain -> Gives you retaliation
Mantra of Recovery -> Gives you aegis
Mantra of Resolve -> Gives you protection

I also think that traits should be a little more accesible. Having to invest that much points to make matras viable seems a bit too punishing for me.

I love this idea, Id say to rework protected mantra in something like this.

I remember a famous mesmer saying “trait for traits, not for stats”.
You dont like the bonus on condition damage in the illusion tree even if you think it is all about confusion (which is a condition, arguably our best one even after the nerf). Then you say you would like to have more condition damage but its useless to invest into this tree. So, why is it useless to you? traits? stat bonus? confusion as condition?

i dont know what kitty means but the first two fractals are not good for loot while the chest is of course a different thing.
im surprised because it seems the first time you find that kind of drop from the chests, or perhaps it happened 10392 times and you are getting nervous.

the maw chest is usually quite good and still i find junk most of the time, i still think the others should work as the world event ones.

confusion on crit seems too strong even to my mesmer eyes, especially since illusions now have access to condition duration and well, with phantasm fury they would have an obscene amount of crit chance. think about the amount of confusion duelist would proc with an ethereal field.
sharper images is my best way to apply bleeding, from a pve perspective i would not trade it for confusion.
may i add that they changed trident #1 from confusion to bleeding?

i think we should first do suggestions about traits that are really weak, we have a lot of them.

dazzling gives huge stack of vulnerability and some stacks of might, traited gs is also strong with mirror blade.
also, dont forget that mind wrack+blurred frenzy is a combo and you can “easily” add mantra of pain and warden which crits for a lot of damage. i think what that guy said can be true but, especially if he does not have a mesmer, perhaps he suffered from a more elaborated combo.

with mind wrack and blurred frenzy alone i think it still depend on might/vulnerability stacks, and of course every shatter must crit and is not always easy… a better access to fury would be awesome.

I’ve used the Magic Bullet to interrupt boss attacks before but it’s somewhat unreliable. I’ve noticed that after a successful interrupt there is a long period before it actually affects the boss. I may be crazy, but that’s what I’ve seen, at least.

I love the focus for it’s mobility and disruption but I use Sword/Pistol, personally.

Yes, defiant is the main reason of the doubts i have about the viability of pistol. So you carry it for the phantasm and maybe for the aesthetic aspect, the last one is something i really hate to deal with!

personally, I always have a focus in my inventory but i prefer to use sword when i can. Block is unreliable against a flurry of strikes but amazing for single aoe attacks. If traited, counter blade also gives a good stack of vulnerability and swordman is a good phantasm.
I like to see potential for the torch, I use it in pvp and well, the prestige is one of my favourite skills even in a shatter spec. I feel like phantasm can be a good choice now but not the best one.

Those two skills play without doubts a big role for us.
DE, fractal, dungeons, whatever. feel free to share your thoughts, which one you like the most? Is it also the one you USE the most? How do you think it really shine?

Im particularly interested to know if anyone play pistol and how it works with boss battles, magic bullet is a great cc but im not sure it worth the slot in that situations. I did not play pistol for ages so i can be wrong.
