The Quaggan and Krait may have issues with this suggestion.
Ok, seriously look into Rani’s event chain connection, the level 15 elementals are bugging his event. You don’t really need those elementals in the first place as they’re for a different event (the frozen maw), have those assault Krennek’s Homestead instead of Vendrake’s or something, they’re destroying the continuity of Rani’s event.
I would just like to see the NPC’s with armor, health, and actually have some skills. They are absolutely worthless at best right now.
While the enemies have skills, and better AI, the NPC’s just run up and start swinging even if they are a non-combat type ‘citizen’ or whatever and that is just ridiculous.
If they are a lionguard or other faction defender they should have armor, health, weapons, skills, etc. while at the same time they should be able to attack at a trained defender type of speed instead of the NPC 2.5-3 second rate.
Event NPC’s have skills (may never use them though) but still get flattened VERY quickly for no reason. But a town with lionguard defending it can be taken over by a couple of enemies with aoe on 30 second CD and that makes me feel that the Humans should not exist in the game because of their complete ineptitude in combat.
I play in Wayfarer Foothills alot – Norn starting zone and there’s a town there that gets ‘invaded’ on a regular basis. Technically it is heavily defended and fortified but it will fall to the very first wave every single time if there isn’t 1(ONE) single player there.
Enemies scale to player density but NPC’s don’t and that isn’t right. This town should be able to defend itself unless there are more players there but since the NPC’s don’t have skills AT ALL they will fall to the first pair of elementals that enter the town (one at each entrance). A single wandering elemental will take out the two defenders at each entrance on a regular basis with or without the event going. 2 on 1 and they can’t win? The lionguard need better training clearly.
Anyway, I agree. NPC’s need better AI, comparable stats to the enemies in the area, and skills. I as many others would agree, sometimes like to watch NPC’s fight it out – whether it is two animal types attacking each other or npc’s and enemies fighting.
This reminded me of the zone were Son’s of Svanir are constantly attacking this area and NPC’s are fighting very well against them. This should be duplicated all over the place. – Snowhawk Landing – down below the waypoint the lionguard are constantly fighting there. Attack speed for all parties is quite slow and pathetic but it’s entertaining.
When they added this to GW1 we complained and asked for it to stop, nothing ever came of that.
I hate it too and want an option to stop it.
- “you” in the following refers to the group context, not an individual.
The other argument is ‘why the fascination with mounts?’ GW has never had mounts for players in the way that you want them. Is it because they’re available in (what you perceive) most other mmo’s (they’re not btw)? Is it because of that that you think it is a standard feature?
Mount: Something you get on top of, specifically to ride as a form of transportation.
If it disappears when you enter combat, it’s not a mount, it’s a costume.
I don’t understand the confusion that arises when they show concept art either, it is ART, not an artistic duplication of an actual area – have you not seen concept art? there’s tons of it for GW that doesn’t exist in the game. It isn’t something you scrutinize and analyze, it is just art – beautiful art.
I don’t want mounts, I want them to stay true to the roots, would be great if they either added horses or changed some names to dolyak or something that actually exists in the game world.
I got 700 hours in and I played in all the betas, most of my time is event farming and crafting but my necro has 100%, was 93% for several months until last weekend when my server finally had control over all of the mists before reset so I decided to cap all the points. Didn’t get the JP’s done but those can wait. So I just recently got my 100% though I could have took a more proactive approach to wvw it isn’t really my thing.
Rani’s event (armor collection) has an issue where sometimes he runs out of the house and goes through his speech but it is premature and so the armor isn’t collectible. It happens before the Hunting Party goes to attack the grawl. It always corrects itself after that; he runs back into the house, then immediately back outside and does his speech again.
edit from observations:
Just watched as Rani’s event was starting while the Grawl Shamans weren’t dead yet(defeated them before the following. Level 15 elementals were attacking (not the ones from the snowmen), Vendrake and his hunting party got into the fight, got defeated, and now Rani is prematurely started and the Maw event has begun. Now Rani’s event is reset and going correctly with some issues(he’s still asleep, Rani is outside, and Etta is fluffing a pillow – see last screenshot). Something is definitely wrong with this one and I wouldn’t be surprised if it glitched the Maw occasionally somehow.
Since it is tied into the Frozen Maw somehow I thought this would be important info.

I’m just wondering what they’re going to do with my beloved Wayfarer Foothills, sounds like they’re going to tear it up! Anet, you keep your dragons and risen out of my Norn zone!
All other changes except for the additional currency… are welcomed.
If Jeffrey can’t replicate the conditions of the bug he can’t fix it. But I agree that there is something in the event base code that is designed wrong. I’ve noticed a couple events that try to start before they’re finished which tells me that something isn’t setting or reading the event flags, no checks in place to make sure that certain things are accomplished, etc.
Just tested in Wayfarer Foothills.
Icebrood wolf have a 2 minute spawn timer
lootable dead body lasted 3.5 minutes.
Screenshot shows seconds after the last icebrood(the one with the dead body) spawned and dead body was still there.
So the start of the Frozen Maw is when the elementals attack Vendrake’s Homestead, it could be bugging out at that part of the event. I’ve seen it starting again before the maw is actually over. This is easy to figure out, if you get close to Vendrake’s and you see elementals dying in front of the door, it means it’s trying to start The Frozen Maw again.
Would love if Jeffrey would tell me for sure what the trigger event is for both the maw and the collection event, this would help me debug it better and also what part is connected between them.
I believe it is trying to start the Frozen Maw a second time while it is still in progress, stalling it at the stage before you destroy the totem.
As long as it takes them to respawn, which varies from zone to zone. Someone with a better memory can fill in the blank but I think it’s around 2-4 minutes.
We got zombies instead for this round. It is kind of odd though that some of those zombies don’t have a living counterpart though.
I get them occasionally from the Frozen Maw chest. Never got one from a loot drop, it’s always a chest.
Yeah, Wayfarer Foothills is great when it’s not completely shut down from bugs (this week is really really bad, half the events are stuck).
It was weird to walk around in the Charr capitol(al?) and see those huge vehicles and not see them EVERYWHERE in the game where Charr are. It was weird to see a single solo Charr helicopter. If you encounter the Charr doing anything, it’s always on foot. The Dredge on the other hand? nope, they use APV’s (armored personnel vehicles) with acoustic cannons (seems stupid since they have excellent hearing), mining mech’s, cannons, trebuchet’s, turrets, etc. Dredge seem more industrialized than Charr unless you visit the Charr capitol…
To even think the humans survived against the Charr is laughable since the humans can barely get anything done without fracturing their individualistic society into pieces.
Anyway, I like the steampunk/gearpunk style, and 250 years from scratch isn’t all that inconceivable. Though I think that if Hero of Alexandria would have made the connection with his steam toy to rotary torque engine (not as simple a leap as some like to think) then our world would have went through a steampunk revolution early on, then again, there were dozens of other times when it could have happened and didn’t so maybe humans are just too dumb to accomplish things like this
As a GW1 veteran it isn’t that the Charr weren’t already on that path, it’s that the only ones we fought were of the Flame Legion, not the Ash, Iron, or Blood legions. As such they were very magical due to the religious beliefs and not more ironpunk like the Iron legion.
Maguuma, and here’s how it goes because I do this event every single day and when it bugs out on this one it also bugs another nearby event because they’re tied together (Rani’s Armor collection event).
So since those two events are connected, this is the series of events that follow and sometimes they happen at different times, and sometimes they happen in the correct order: (note, I don’t know what part is supposed to be tied to each…)
1. Level 15 elementals attack Vendrake’s Homestead
2. Someone kills them.
3. unknown messenger brings message to Krennak’s Homestead that Grawl attacked Vendrake’s Homestead.
4. Dialog begins for Grawl attack on Vendrake’s Homestead thus beginning the actual meta event The Frozen Maw.
5. players beat back grawl and prevent them from taking all the boxes.
6. Brogan begins his player initiated part and starts walking to the Maw killing grawl along the way.
7. He stands in front of the totem and spouts his line about destroying it and the grawl being ‘our problem’.
8a. * bug. the totem looks destroyed but it never actually spawned the totem to be destroyed in the first place.
8b. If not bugged you destroy the totem with waves of grawl and elementals that attack.
9. the Shaman comes, brogan tells you not to let him call his friends – shaman is invincible.
10. shaman guards and portals show up spawning friends the longer they all stay active and alive.
11a. You died and elementals and icebrood are all over the lake area.
11aa. 14 minutes(?) are up and the Shaman has summoned the elemental.
11b. You won and now the Shaman is now actively trying to kill you.
13a. you’ve killed the Shaman.
13b. you’ve got the Shaman down to half health but haven’t prevented him from summoning his second form (elemental) – thus making him easier to kill if you’re a caster and harder if you’re melee.
14. You win and Brogan rez’s and walks back to Vendrake’s Homestead really really slowly.
Now, because it’s tied to the Krennak’s Homestead event, it also bugs that one and doesn’t allow progression many times – sometimes it does…
1. elementals attack – starting The Frozen Maw.
2. – real start of Vendrake’s Homestead event – Hunting party at the lodge proceeds to go to the Grawl ‘cave’ to hunt some. Vendrake should not be crippled but he usually is as his cripple spell has 1 hour affect.
3. Hunting party gets there kills a few, a dozen spawn and Vendrake uses his ‘smash the ground’ knockback skill and says “There’s too many!” and cripples away to his homestead.
4. He goes and lies down, his wife tends to him, and Rani starts talking.
5. Rani leaves the lodge and starts the collection event.
6. After collecting enough (12? for one player) he runs back to the front of the lodge and sets up snowmen.
7. a dozen Grawl come from the cave, check out the ‘norn army’ and run back to tell the shaman.
8. The shaman and another grawl come from the cave, tell Rani he’ll be the last to die, and summon the ‘snowmen’ alive into elementals (level 12).
9. Kill the Grawl Shamans part of the event comes up – kill 4 grawl shaman and all elementals will de-spawn – 1 outside, 3 inside.
10. After killing them, run to the lodge and Rani and his dad are talking about him being brave or something and Rani will remark to you about your help.
All of that was based on personal observation of events and dialog at both locations.
To add to the list of bugged events on Maguuma:
The Frozen Maw.
Rani’s Armor collection
Mead Delivery Twinspur Haven to Edenvar’s Homestead.
Dredge Ore Mining heart in Molebria near Edenvar’s Homestead.
(edited by Lil Puppy.5216)
You’ll get like 5 Black Lion Chests
Oh, and it had nothing to do with YOUR birthday, but the creation date of your CHARACTER.
Since beta characters were wiped we’ll have to wait until November 28th of this year (3 days earlier for headstart characters that still exist) to see what they’re going to do for birthday presents.
I’m cool with mini-pets, but since they get shoved into the collections when I send all the rest of my mats, I don’t ever have one with me. Would love it if they put a mini slot on the hero tab and a button to click to show/hide it on the skillbar or somewhere.
It is safe to assume that a majority of players can use and get used to the default layout of keys because they’re a pretty standard pc layout.
Mouse for looking around, targeting, and interacting sometimes (some use the mouse to click skills, competitive types use the keyboard for that).
wasd for forward, strafe left, strafe right, and backward (standard pc movement scheme – no one uses the arrow keys, that’s extremely inefficient).
various other letters for specific actions or interface elements
(the following are actually listed on the skill icon itself)
1-0 for skills
F1-4 for auxiliary skills for whatever the class puts there.
There should be a muscle memory learning curve if you have forgotten how to use the keyboard for pc games, but since you have to look at the skill to click it in the first place, just look a little harder at the number on each one and remember to use your left hand to tap that key instead of your right hand to click the button.
You could also ask the Dredge, they have battle tanks too with acoustic cannons!
Playable Automaton, is that what an oxymoron is?
Charr could make mechs, Asura can make golems, Humans can barely make dolyak paks, Norn can make animal friends, and Sylvari are still ‘finding themselves’.
So your best bet for a playable would be to ask the Charr or Asura. Since we don’t know the tech/mech level of the Tengu, we wont know what they could provide to this conversation.
If they put Cantha in one of their expansions, we may see siege turtles, until that happens, we don’t have any turtles. You’ll have to ask the Charr to make a tank for you – note that they are already available as models in the Charr city, we just can’t use any of the Charr machinery.
Buy it with gems as a gathering kit (axe, pick, sickle). Gathering isn’t an advantage so I see no real reason why this couldn’t be a thing for those who choose to afford it.
We just need them to be properly stackable. Maybe they could sell a gatherer’s kit on the BLTP with infinite use, I would actually get some gems for that.
YAY someone said necromancer! dagger dagger with the trait and you’re permanent 25% boost + 30 or more seconds of 33% from the reverse teleport skill.
My ele uses the signet for 25% boost as well.
LFG <dungeon name> Path <x> Challenge runs – no armor.
If that doesn’t get you a team, start adding pieces to the list – helmet, gloves, boots, trinkets, etc until you have a full team and have fun in a dungeon. It doesn’t always have to be about grinding and making the most gold/hr.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/How-many-currencies-are-enough/first#post856654
+ token from daily/monthly not listed in there.
+ achievement tokens = 12 currencies in this game. No doubt all of the rewards will be account or soul bound on acquire right?
Do we have a collections tab for all these existing currencies? I know that thing from the dailies goes into my collections but how about all the rest of them?
Achievement points don’t need an inventory slot occupying token/coin, just deduct it from my AP balance and stop adding so many currencies.
I’m happy about all the other things and now we finally have something for the worthless achievement points that we’ve collected for no real reason.
I’m just getting a tad irritated by the amount of soul/account bound stuff that I don’t really have a use for that should be sellable.
Oh, and the ‘Advanced Harvesting Sickle (10)’: 10? seriously? it had better last for a long time. What can it harvest that an ORI sickle can’t ??? Am I going to get a precursor from cabbage? 1 Crown per daily means it will take me 3 days to afford 10 sickles that might afford me what benefit from any other sickle? will it guarantee me a T6 material EVERY TIME? At a stack of 10 – without possibility of stacking them properly like all the rest of course – this is still not worth it.
If I had to save up for a week to get a stack of 100 that had a 75% chance of a T6 it might be worth it but I highly doubt this will anywhere near that decent.
Can’t wait for the updates, love the game, just not interested in the pure RNG nature of it, that is not ‘uniquely Guild Wars 2’ by the way
Coincidentally I saw some pigs being raised by some Jotun and immediately killed them to see if they dropped bacon. I know, my previous post and all, I wasn’t sure if pigs were in the game or not, now I know they are! lol
Tie the effects into your personality traits too since those aren’t really used for anything.
Ah, console users. As said above WASD+mouselook is the standard PC movement scheme because it allows much faster response. However, if you’re using WASD without mouselook, it is really slow for turning and probably why you’re having problems with it.
RMB is turn, A and D are strafe, and W and S are forward and backward, simple stuff and you can’t do that with just a mouse, and controller setups aren’t responsive enough.
Yes to stacking, it’s a fundamental mechanic of guild wars inventory management and completely missing from some stackable items.
No to durability because then they will just tack that on to other things like they did with bleeding. Somehow my scepter causes bleeding but my daggers don’t?…
Durability was already thought of and discarded with armors, instead they made them breakable but not destroyed permanently. We can be armor smiths/tailors/leatherworkers but we can’t fix our own armor even though we may have made it. Some things just don’t make sense.
Stacking is already there, those come in stacks though they aren’t stackable… They’re more like a multi-use consumable item, similar to tonics, instead of many of the same item, like most junk items.
Many of the files you’re downloading are text based, those CAN get compressed as they leave the server so there could be up to a 90% discrepancy in the size of the file. They can tell you how big it is just sitting on the server but your bandwidth might be much less because of the compression which is just an automatic function and doesn’t report the size change. Various other files are more binary type and don’t get compressed anyway. I don’t know if they compress their files down the pipes or not – they should though.
There is a percentage, bandwidth, file count, and how much has already been downloaded that are listed on the updater. Unfortunately the percentage is based on file count and not update size. Initial client update size is around 10MB, then it downloads the updates to the game files. Small updates come in under 120MB, larger content updates can be over 500MB.
In the end, they have a list of files that is different than what is on your computer, those files get downloaded – including any that the client has marked as corrupted during your previous play session (hopefully). This list may include file sizes, it may not, but it most certainly has a crc/md5 or equivalent for each file – which is useless for this discussion The updater checks each time if there is a new version, downloads a list of files for the update, and then proceeds to download them, then checks the crc/md5/whatever to see if it is the right file. This list could include file sizes to calculate a total to appease the bandwidth restricted customers if they chose to do so.
Because the only animal in the game that would make bacon is also a pet – warthog – not that that really matters
But yeah, why no bacon?! and there’s plenty of bees in the Human zone and there are some bee keepers in the Norn zone so where’s the honey?!
And then there’s the gold hoarding achievement that simply states how many coins in copper you’ve had at one time, forcing you to do the math to figure out what that really means.
I was confused like crazy when I went to buy a few things that were copper priced and then I was broke thinking “where did all my money go?!” I had no idea at the time that is was gggg:ss:cc format and 100 based. So it’s like 100 cents is a dollar, 100 dollars is a gold bar, which is a real devaluation of silver.
And then we farm gold, silver, and copper nodes but can’t turn those into direct currency at the bank, we have to go to the TP and get nowhere near the value for them
I can’t trade a gold bar for gold coins, a silver bar for silver coins, or a copper bar for copper coins (well, that one works out for the most part but it’s way disproportionate for the amount of material).
It would have been much better if the coin currency was a fictional one instead of something based on a mining node you can actually acquire but not transfer.
I believe that is what the red lines under your first 5 skills is for. Though you’ll have to search for what each one means for range numbers.
A human can only make so many trades per second <— rules based on this work just fine to limit bot interactions, though I don’t believe Anet has this in place anywhere.
A stack is 250 because it is a very small number in binary, it’s pretty small in hex too. Increasing this beyond 256(0-255) would increase the database size for trades by more than double.
And focusing on the bots will always hinder players, this is Anet’s stance. It’s much better to focus on the players than on bots.
It’s like putting up police checkpoints at every intersection because of drunk drivers – you know, to keep the people safe… It hinders normal people while doing little to combat the problem – alcoholics living too far away from bars.
The best way to destroy all your inventory is to just delete your characters – since you’re ‘quitting’ you wont regret it later right?
They’re scaling the entire UI, not the fonts, that’s what is causing the problem with readability. The plugin ‘object’ is being scaled down (for small ui) but internally it is still at 100% so you get ‘jaggies’ which causes the readability issues. This is what happens when you don’t do things correctly because of a schedule.
I’m sure they could pass a UI-size value to the browser object and have it select a new css file – it uses a rest interface to get data in the first place so I know it isn’t that hard.
Or you can stop double clicking your skills.
Sometimes that option isn’t available at all for some random reason. It is clearly bugged or we don’t know the rules that it follows or whatever.
Talk to the NPC’s, they’ll tell you about the castle.
The active icon (sits above your skillbar) still displays 10% for Signet of Air after the update for 25% speed boost was applied.
There are quite a few of us level 80’s in wayfarers cause we just like the density of events in the area.
At any given moment there will be half a dozen downleveled players in there and you’ll be level 11 for most of the events in area between Twinspur Haven and Crossroads Haven.
<— male
My light armor wearing characters would appreciate less feminine armors – skirts, dresses, etc. I like sexy armors but my characters enjoy the darker side of combat and would appreciate not wearing schoolgirl outfits and ball gowns while on their genocidal rampages or give them a maniacal laugh when they kill something
Bring some class specific armor types back into the game like gw1 had.
Would much rather have a separate weapon preview without character than have a non-zoomable non-panable preview that you can’t see details on like we have now.
Because I don’t have the desire to farm the mats and pray to Zommoros to get a legendary. I would rather play how I like to play and buy one when I get around to it.
It’s a luxury item and I don’t understand why some of you people care that others want to make money off of their crafting success.
This has to be a bug that a very few people experience. When I create a new email despite the amount of people, who is or is not targeted or directly in front of me, mine is always empty.
If you’re downed I’ll get to you unless you’re in the middle of some AOE DOT, then you are waypoint fodder.
If you’re naked, you stay there.
If it’s an event that will end soon and you get killed, you stay dead.
If you’re a ranger and you’re dead and not naked, I’ll stand there over your dead body for a moment and if you ask to be resed, I’ll res you, otherwise you stay dead.
