Well, I paid for the game.
I’ve bought about $60 or so in gems since release (I pre-ordered it, so it’s been pretty spaced out.
But I also bought a whole new desktop, primarily to play the game better.
I also bought a new mouse for the same reason.
Oh, and I bought a new headset to replace my old broken one to talk to people while I play.
So in a way, I’ve paid at least $800 or so to play the game, ha ha.
Oh I didn’t factor that in . I also built a rig $1000 and a mouse $120 and head set $89 and 27" monitor $240 , Chair $10 and I broke my mouse pad the other day ( how does one break a mouse pad?) all because my laptop lagged and made playing painfull
I only ever get kitten from them, and the only incentive to do them is dailies or monthly. I think even got a ripped hide or something as dumb yesterday.

Of course it’s not okay. It’s just not illegal. There’s a difference there. Excepting Gem Cards, the other means of getting Gems to purchase a huge bunch of Keys is to input a credit card or Paypal account. I don’t know for sure, but it’s generally accepted that if you have a credit card you are financially responsible enough to make your own decisions that way.

It’s not illegal. Therefore there’s no legal leverage to stop it from happening, and thus it falls to others to handle it. And so!

actually, japan made it illegal over a year ago. their reasoning was that marketing gambling to children isn’t something they feel should be allowed to happen. the asian market adjusted, and removed their gambling systems in anticipation of that law coming in.
and, for the record, i never said the parents or guardians aren’t responsible. i simply said that the casino is responsible as well, which in this case, is guild wars 2. since they’re the ones providing the gambling. which the RNG boxes are. which makes them a casino. marketing gambling. to children. if you can’t see how that’s immoral, or at the very least completely irresponsible, then by all means, bring this conversation up at the next parent teacher meeting, and see what the results are.

About kids… Nothing personal. I meant they have free time to spend they don’t know how. I suggest to get a job and buy keys directly. Even if it will be 5$ a hour – it is much more profitable.

I’m not a kid either and I do have a job as well, I prefer to use my real life money on my satisfying things like shoes and shoes and more shoes even, spending 30 minutes or so farming a key improves the quality of shoes and underwear I buy. ;-)
What I did for wvw completion is just kept an eye on the wvw maps throughout my normal game play and if i saw an are uncontested I would just quickly go in and complete it, ……. Then I realised that there were actually three maps for my server bl ie. Green map. Red Map and Blue Map… grrrrrrrr all done now but omg

I quite often will buy items mid week at a low price and list them for sale at price much higher than the current buy price because I know that come the weekend they will reach the price I have them listed for.
I will also buy higher priced items at a low and list them knowing full well it may take weeks to sell them, I choose to leave them sitting there waiting.

A flipper wants to make as much money as fast as possible. Imagine a second flipper, competing with the first for the same items. To make lots of money faster than the first flipper, the second flipper puts in buy orders slightly higher than the first flipper (better for the general populous selling the items) and sells the items at a slightly lower price than the first flipper (better for the general populous buying the items.)
I’m guessing you’re thinking of the items with very little volume such as precursors. Despite Arenanet stating that the precursor marker is NOT being controlled by a few people, think about the sheer amount of gold required to corner that market, and the slow rate of sales because so few people have the gold to purchase those items. Even if someone had a monopoly on pres, they couldn’t do anything with the monopoly because the vast majority of people are simply not capable of purchasing the items at ridiculous prices.
Flippers are still draining money out of the economy without returning anything in the way of value. And that minute undercutting in bulk is cutting of the sales of players who listed at decent prices, directly harming them. And it does not lower prices by more than a copper or two and for very short periods of time. So no, still a net negative.
And no, again, I’m talking of far more than precursors. I’m talking also of T6 mats, lodestones, cores, etc. And again, I never once mentioned monopolies.

If my items don’t sell after a week or two I tend to have a fire sale. I just sell to the highest bidder to get some gold back. I know what I’m doing.

Untrue. I know exactly how it works. I just disagree with how it does and think the current practices are wrong.
Trading is not. Flipping is. It is siphoning money out of the system and returning nothing in the way of value. It is purely leeching off of the system. So yes, stealing.
It’s a sink. It is taking money out of the market, but doesn’t mean it returns nothing. Money comes from no where in this game and we need the sink to keep everything in place. Imagine your government keep printing bills……at the end those will worth less than toilet paper.
Also, flipping != monopoly. Although flipper wants a large profit margin, what they do is actually reducing it, driving the price down. Casual player will benefit from the lower price.
Yes. You’re right. it is a sink. But you’re wrong in that it returns something. It doesn’t. The only benefit is to the flipper. It is a net negative to everyone else. Money leaves the system into the pocket of the flipper, of whom contributed absolutely nothing to the interaction or to the economy. Flippers are the leeches of the system.
And I not once claimed it was a monopoly. Although those have occurred on several items in the past, I made no such claim here. But flippers do not lower prices. They raise them.

I mean in pve that mob that spawns or the vet etc , well its pretty much a given that you will defeat them eventually ( even it if take you a few goes ti work out how to take them down )
Where as wvw you are fighting against unpredictable human element (which is why I fail at wvw)

ArenaNet needs to realize that dealing with the symptom is useless when you have to amputate – they should just ban the exploiters. This will, sooner or later, fix the issue.

Your statement that trading is basically stealing is just a tad naive to put it politely.
Nothing prevents players who want to buy things from putting in buy orders at lower prices. You pay a premium for the convenience of getting things instantly.
There’s no stealing of anything involved in the slightest.
It’s taking advantage of those that don’t understand the system as well. It is stealing and it’s dishonest. That is my view and you will not be able to convince me otherwise.

What part of the upcoming update makes you think people are going to return to Orr instead of just running circuits through the five easy-to-kill champions in Queensdale?
The champions in Queensdale will more than likely drop t1 mats. Those are worthless.
The champions in Cursed Shore are endgame. So you get t6 mats and lodestones.
The only time I will run Queensdale circuit is to complete dailies or monthlies , You get better lot form the cows in the paddock outside the cave then the silly troll (who has really bad posture to btw)
I agree with the OP. Flippers love to manipulate the TP and artifically increase prices in order to get rich easily, but that has a detrimental effect for everyone else. Of course the flippers will opposite it, but IMO ArenaNet should either:
1. Make everything bought from the TP account bound, so flippers can’t buy low and sell high.
2. Remove players’ influence on the prices at the TP, by making everything to have fixed prices. This would be better on the long run and don’t have some issues the previous option do (account bound crafting materials…), but it would be a lot more troublesome for ArenaNet.
They have an economist, but I don’t really think that works. The real world economy has constraints that an in-game economy does not have. Some kids here think the goal of an economy is to allow individuals to make as much profit as possible (often to the detriment of others), but the true goal is to allow the highest possible amount of goods to reach the highest possible amount of people; in a virtual economy, the “highest possible” is incredibly, incredibly high.

You have already demonstrated on another thread that you do not understand the concept of a free market., nor do you have a even basic understanding of the mechanics of an economy
I’m pretty philanthropic with my gold and I hand 1g to new players in Queensdale every now and then.
But I absolutely do not hand out gold to anyone who asks or anyone who becomes greedy and asks for more. I find those types of people repulsive.
lol lets face it, you don’t and im not greedy…. i dont have any gold or silver on any of my accounts, none of them have any money because when i quit i gave it to my pals, now that i play, i need something to start back up on
You can also save yourself some scratch by not buying the cultural armour. Cultural armour is little better than stock gear for that level, the primary reason you’d buy it is for the skin.
But if you’re hard up for cash, buying vanity gear is a no-no.
well im annoyed by how my mesmar looks atm, and the vanity armor would make me happy
Then go do the sanctum sprint and you may or may not have your armor in a few hours
Go run the Sprint race in the Zephyr Sanctum a few times , you make at around 10 silver a run at the least, and the chance of a catcher skin which will get you a few gold if you sell it on TP
Have you tried doing this
“1. In your Windows start menu type “%temp” (without the quotes) into the search field.
2. Delete all folders that say gw2 cache..
3. Re-launch your game client and try again
The only other think i can think is that maybe the armor was bought orginally from and NPC merchant and I don’t think you can salvage those,??? but then i didnt think you could sell them on tp anyways?
This problem is especially bad on Sea of Sorrows where more often than not the farmers will verbally abuse those who are simply trying to complete the event. I understand the need to farm but these farmer’s misplaced belief that they own the entire event is getting out of hand.
How odd , When I was there on SoS it was the opposite it wasn’t the farmers that were doing the abusing , in fact Farmers announced that they would change XX server to let the champion die and they were told “we will follow you to XX and kill the champ there too”
