Wish the wings were larger, and wish there was a possibility of two different approaches to the flapping:
1. Make the flapping a stop/start cycle: IE, flap for 5 seconds, pause for 5 seconds, flap for 5 seconds…etc,etc.
2. Make them flap only when you have your weapon out. Pause them when weapons sheathed.

Related to those two options, it’d be nice if they folded when not flapping.

Anyways, just some thoughts. And for the record, I think they are absolutely great!

I can see where this would be a problem. People switch over to staff to get #4 off and then are stuck with the staff until the swap cooldown is gone. It’s one of the reasons I don’t use staff too often.

They’re trying to break the current meta-build wall that blocks any sort of viable alternative builds. For clarity, there’s only 2 builds that are very effective in most classes, and I don’t think the devs like that. They want to see more, and I’m sure most of the other players that want to use alternative builds would agree.

Here’s the problem though, and I think it’s going cause the rage Silentstorm mentioned, they’re going to have to break current builds to do it. That means nerfing and buffing at the same time. When people get used to a build they like you can be sure change is going to upset them.

I’m using an alternative build right now myself, but I can go ahead and tell you it’s not the most effective. However, I thoroughly enjoy it. I’d love to see some changes that would make it more effective, but I’m also very worried they’re going to break something in the build along with the attempt to fix the problem.

Guess you could always chance the coffers, both regular and rich, and buy them up. I think they have a chance to drop wings.

Ahh that’s a good point. I don’t normally run with staff. I’m more of a GS/Sword&Focus person myself. I figured your staff#4 had a lot to do with the AH benefit, and with the SY! buffs.

I use a similar build, except different gear/stats, and some ability differences. For example, I use Monk’s Focus over AH. Have tried usign MF over AH?

There’s some interesting information regarding the coffers in the first link on there too. According to the Q&A you will be able to sell the dropped coffers on the TP, and the gw2hub person mentions that “the chances of obtaining a weapon ticket is quite generous”. Obviously that second part may just be hype, but we’ll see soon enough.

Yeah, I’m not too happy with the SSC content so far. I have yet to get a single flipping SSC crate!! Not a single freaking one! RNG has really done me over this time around.

Again, opinion. Not everyone has to run zerker damage stats. 1.7k Power is not that bad.

I sometimes wonder if CptAurellian is just trolling on ppl sometimes…. Half of what he said is just bad opinion. IE, I wouldn’t call 17k a “giant” bar of health. Also the damage isn’t that bad either. Further, AH isn’t the only viable build out there nor is having to have a max DPS spread either.

Anyways, the build isn’t bad. It’ll work. And I like how you try to get in another source of condition in there. I’d suggest maybe adding condition damage in there to test if it would work or not. Note, I and many others don’t normally advocate condition damage on guardians since they typically only have one source: burning, but you have 2 in there, so that might be an interesting avenue to explore.

Agreed. I used one when it came out for a litteral makeover. Several months later wanted to change my horns, so I bought another. Then realized I forgot to change my eye color, so I need to buy yet a third makeover kit!

It’d be nice if you could make your pets grow into larger animals like they did with GW1.

Are you wanting to push out 2500 damage hits or just see the 2500 attack (crossed swords icon) on the stats screen?

If you’re waiting 2500 damage on each hit, AND keep good toughness HP, check out the Paragon build. Actually, any build will work you just have to find the right mix or straight flush amount of knights, soldiers, beserker, or etc., gear to get it. EIther choice of your weapon sets your asking about will work for high damage.

@Sandra, this thread and the upcoming patch is about traits, NOT skills. Please edit out that part of your wall of text please to spare other readers.

That’s exactly the problem. If you end up going that far into Virtues, you end up hurting your DPS compared to just going to other trait lines.

I’d suggest just making the classes that seem the most interesting to you, level them up through normal gameplay and you’ll probably know if you’re going to like the class by level 15-20.

Those are some good suggestions wolfbrand, except for the Scepter Power. Scepter is already the highest DPS weapon in the game (even stated by the Devs), it’s main problem is the speed of #1, which they said they will fix sometime in the future. I won’t comment on Smite radius though. I’ve got mixed feelings about that skill.

Here’s a couple of my suggestions on the Virtue line:
1. Power of the Virtuous: Increase the 1% per boon to 2%.
2. Remove Retalitory Subconscious OR Unscathed Contender and replace with Powerful Judgement: Increases the value of self-produced boons by the Guardian only (allys unaffected) by 20% (IE: Might=42@ level 80, Protection = 39%, Fury=24% CC, etc.)

These two alone will help fulfill the Anet’s own class ideals on the Guardian in making them feel more powerful with boons. This will also help give a reason to actually use boons considering boon hate is becoming popular, and I have a feeling they are going to include more of it in future updates.

3. Change Improved Spirit Weapons Duration to Improved Spirit Weapons: removes Spirit Weapon duration altogether.

I guess I’ll be hanging my Ranger back on the shelf then and go back to my Guardian.

So which of the two Melee BM Rangers do you prefer now Paundro? 1 or 2?

Some good basics is to read the AH Crit guide at the top, and a good solid build is the Paragon build. But really, just playing around while leveling up will help you figure out what you want the most.

And yes, that PS did sound very immature. I’d not say something like that again if you ever want to be taken serious again.

They share the same timer, so it’s basically just 3 cleanses in 10s intervals.

I run with Mediations even with groups. I hate having to rely on others for my healing, especially if they move out of range.

I’m sorry, but apparently I missed where they said they will take a look at Guardian stats and traits… Unless you’re talking about the Scepter #1 speed acknowledgement, which that’s a skill, not stats and traits.

Also, this patch was stated to be a bug fix only. Balances/changes for classes come later.

Yeah, I guess I could have been a little more clear that was a joke. I actually did forget that whetstones would be used on arrows as well as swords, so I suppose the name fits.

Still surprised she wouldn’t keep her personal name, though. My understanding was that the personal name stuck with a charr, and I guess we’re finding that understanding is wrong.

Don’t take this offensively, ‘cause I’m not trying to be, but you’re thinking about why she was named a bit narrowmindedly. Think of the Stone warbad as the metaphorical blade. Her addition to the warband has sharpened the blade. Therefore she’s like a whetstone.

As to why she lost all of her last name before joining, I’m unsure of that one, but I’m going to give a guess that it has to do with her being a Gladium.

What puzzles me is I didn’t even know she was renamed and allowed to join the Stone warband. I could have sworn Rytlock said she wasn’t a member yet and needed a few more tests at the end of F&F. I may have been half asleep when I saw that exchange too. :S

Don’t worry so much about your stats when it comes to traits, worry about synergy. Stats comes from armor, weapons, and tickets, first. The stats you get from traits are secondary. That’s not to say they aren’t important, it just shouldn’t be your first concern if you haven’t decided which gear to use, yet.

The synergy of your trait skills is more important. At most your trait stats only amount to a few pieces of armors worth of stats. It’s the trait skills themselves that are most important. The only downside to this build is you are limiting yourself pretty badly when it comes to having to adapt to different fights. You don’t really have any room to swap things around if a change is needed, not on the fly anyway. But if you can live with that, and it’s working good for you, there’s no reason you can’t run this. Just know you will reach a limit to how much it can do though.

Thanks for the response guys. Yeah, I’ve main’ed a Guardian for nearly the whole time since release (I actually started a Ranger at the beginning). That’s exactly what I tell other new Guardians too. I was looking more for advice on the trait spread.

I’m actually okay with leaving my trait skills alone. I don’t like switching them around too often because I often forget that I need to change them back to whatever the situation is requiring them. I usually remember to do so half way through whatever encounter I’m on. Haha!

Anyways, I’ll be honest. I’m on a bit of a crossroads. I’m not sure what type of ranger I’m going to be yet. Do I go bunker build? But I already run a bunker Guardian. Do I go DPS build? If so, Power or Condition Damage? Despite type of DPS build, can I even run one well? I wasn’t so great with the DPS Guardian. I’ll have to think about that and probably just take my own Guardian newbie advice for my newbie ranger: just experiment with rares before investing in exotics.

I know one thing for sure though. I like pets, and the 30 BM will stay.

You do realize that ALL banks can, and state that they can, do this, right? I’ve used Paypal for years and have never had a problem with them. And as a bonus, you don’t have to change your banks. Just use them for transactions.

I would run with 0 10 20 10 30, because Signet Mastery is useless in your build (you can precast SotH for your pet, and you will use SotW always for passive).
Pet’s Prowess is a lot of extra damage with cats (in particular Jaguar), so it’s ok.
In WS trait-line i would take Vigorous Renewal (vigor is always nice) and Martial Mastery (CD reduction make GS a very useful weapon in WvW).
For BM trait-line take Commanding Voice, Compassion Training and Natural Healing.

I actually use my signet actives quiet often, that’s why the Signet Mastery is quite appealing.

@awge, thanks for the input as I said, I’m not really too sure about the gear yet, so that’ll probably switched around. I’m not sure how I’d pull off increasing all those stats though and still retain a bunker status with the healing power….

Actually, they do. Yes you can rune for boon duration or take Retreat, SY + a staff… The latter which i actually do but if you do any other build/setup you cannot keep up with the zerg and other professions do not have this disadvantage.

That said, there are 2 more issues that need to be fixed before this, scepter auto + zeal trait line. Much much much more important.

I only ever need staff to keep up with a zerg, and sometimes not only that. Most zergs are pretty good at keeping up swiftness on people. The key is making sure not to end up in a tail of the leading commander.

Medium armor in general needs a huge asethtics buff. Too many coats! There’s only a few that actually look like armor and not clothes.

I’m in Db as well and find the claims of the op far fetched. We are currently tier 2 and there are very few solo or small groups running around. Maybe it’s just me but I’m running into small zergs mostly when I roam.

What I do find fun though is taking camps and the solo defender trying to kill me while I soak up all the damage from the 4-5 npcs and still stomp his little but. “Wtf rangers are so op” comment. /party invite.

What build do you run?

At first I wanted to try for a BM Bunker build, but then I got to looking at some of the typical trait setup and some of them didn’t appeal to me, which I’m probably missing the point to them.

Anyways, I got to thinking about using this as a setup for PvE/WvW:
10 Marksmanship: (IV) Signet Mastery
10 Skirmishing: (I) Pet’s Prowess
10 Wilderness Survival: (V) Pets deal extra condition damage
10 Nature Magic: (III) Nature’s Bounty
30 Beastmastery: (II) Master’s Bond or (V) Commanding Voice or (VI) Mighty Swap for Adept, (VII) Rending Attacks for Master, (XII) Natural Healing for Grand.

For gear, I’d use cleric armor (unsure of runes/orbs yet), and cleric trinkets. Weapon choice will be GS, Sword/dagger, or LB. Unsure of type and sigils yet.

Skills would be Troll Unguent (or Healing Spring?), Sick Em, Signet of Hunt, Signet of Wild, Rampage as One. Will probably switch out SoW for Lightining Reflexes on WvW.

I know there’s a lot of uncertainty in there (I’m still not sure about the gear choice), but are my traits a little too spread out there? The 30 BM is definately going to stay, but what about the other 40?

I believe he’s proposing a change to the Guardian trait lines, to which I reply with a flat out NO THANKS!
