I believe when you fight foes of higher than level 80, your crit chance is reduced so someone with 100% crit chance ends up with less than 100% crits, but someone with 119% crit chance may still have 100% crits (not sure what the formula for the reduction is).

Some of the other forums have significantly more dev red posts than this one. Those devs have just as much work to do, no?

How many of those posts have been made by devs though?
You also have to keep in mind that the different teams most likely have completely different numbers of devs, and as such a bigger team should have more time to talk on the forums compared to a smaller one.

It might help to read the post: “significantly more dev red posts” before responding.

Bigger teams exist because they have more work to do than smaller ones. Or perhaps you’re saying Anet is inefficient in their allocation of dev resources?

Devon is very busy with his job duties and only has limited time to devote to reading the forums. If he spent the time demanded of him responding to threads on the forums, his work would suffer. My job duties have me reading and reporting on the forums regularly to ensure that Devon and the rest of the team are aware of active concerns within the WvW community. I do this for other parts of the forum as well. As has been mentioned a multitude of times previously, our developers read the forums as much as they are able, but time prevents them from responding to everything they read.

IMO this is the kind of thought that keeps games from improving and fixing up their mistakes.
Following this line of thought, no game should ever improve or fix a bug unless its a game-breaking one, since players could “just avoid that content, since its bugged or broken” somehow.
Maybe you dont play the pub pvp, but some people do, specially newcomers like myself. And we, newcomers and other ppl who play it, would like to see it fixed rather than have it being “A part of the game that shouldnt be played”

Note the “two years” in the quote — it makes all the difference.

i just don’t see how adding a new wvw map, fixes the problems in wvw

It doesnt.

What it does do is create new maps to play on.
New maps to explore.
New maps to fight on.
New maps to devise new tactics on
New maps to bring back a few players
New maps to keep us interested in the game for a bit longer

EOTM was made for PvE players to K-Train. A new map will refresh WvW, even if it is for a few months or a year.

But I bet you if they did release a new map for WvW, their graphs will spike a lot higher and for a much greater duration than they currently get with the LS episodes.
And if they do that they’ll realise WvW needs more variety, and we’d soon get a whole host of new maps and a rotation system in place in no time!

We just need that one new BL map to replace the current one!

This. PvP always has good dev work time to player play time ratio. Zero dev attention for two years and WvW is still going (though only barely at this point) .. this would certainly not be possible with PvE.

One new BL and EB map every 6 months could probably take WvW off life support and keep it going indefinitely (where the new maps are placed in rotation with old ones, perhaps using RNG — Anet’s gotta have their RNG!).

Alas, this will not happen.

Please read the NEW Sticky thread above!

Gw2 still bad??

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lord Kuru.3685

Hello, I bought gw2 long long time ago. More specifically I preodered it. And I was very very very VERY disappointed with:
-crashes
-empty servers
-no end game
-grind all the time (80 lvls?? Come on in gw1 there were 20. I could hit max lvl in 3 hours. In gw2 its much much longer)
-crafting – also grind
-dumb login procedure (every time I had to login onto my mail, I still have to)
-support not responding for tickets
-Boring classes (skills – small amount and all almost same [deal x dmg] )
-5x Guardian team so op
-No level scalling (80lvl character in 30lvl area is still stronger than 30 lvl character there)
-Gem shop news all the time
-Insane server structure (gw1 districts ftw)

So my question is:
Is anything improved right now? Or I have to wait for Guild Wars 3?
Or just play gw1 – best mmo ever made.

Thanks For Answers.

If you didn’t like GW2 before, you won’t like it now. Most of the issues you listed are still there. Add to that the lack of balance and support for game modes other than LS and you see there’s little hope of having these issues resolved in the future.

Musical instrument autohotkey macro players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

… and playing music is such an advantage?

I would think that it’s more ANet holding a hard line against macros than whether or not music playing gives advantages. They can’t reasonably say no macros but then allow some macros. A company gets into legal problems when they apply the rules inconsistently.

Anet applies rules inconsistently all over the place. One example that’s come to light of late is the treatment of people with two of the same legendaries (some got refunded one, others didn’t).

Lord Kuru.3685

Many commanders don’t understand that if you force zerg battles on EotM karma train map then the karma train will slowly jump back into WvW maps upsetting a large portion of the population that care about the scores in WvW.

While I do think EoTM is a MASSIVE fail that’s best left as the karma train it is right now, I don’t think killing it would affect (real) WvW much. The existence of server communities doesn’t allow the kind of train we see in EoTM (and in fact it’s largely the lack of community that has made EoTM the fail that it is).

In any case… has anyone compared karma training —> T6 mats with dungeon —> gold —> T6 mats?

Lord Kuru.3685

I’ve seen in a lot of topics recently that state that the reason WvW is largely ignored is due to the fact that it generates almost no revenue for NCSoft

Not sure why this idea has spread. Players that are primarily WvW still buy skins, new hairstyles, and spend gems to get Legendaries. WvW players have, in addition, finishers to buy (at the very least, these used to sell very well).

In fact, my guess is that they spend more real money on gems than the average PvE player since WvW doesn’t net you nearly as much gold per hour as PvE so WvW players can’t convert as much gold to gems.

In fact, I think one can argue that WvW can make _more_money (relative to number of players) than PvE because it demands less dev attention. After two years of no new content, there are still people in WvW — would that be true of PvE? (Of course, there’s a limit to how far one can go in terms of giving zero support — WvW is currently in massive decline).

The Abbadon Fractal

Lord Kuru.3685

The players decided they wanted something else more than the Abaddon fractal. Does this encourage the designers to create the Abaddon fractal after all? Probably not, not if they can put the time into a dungeon relevant to LS2 instead.

Players will complain if it does come (our votes were irrelevant), doesn’t come (lots of us voted for it), or appears in another vote (we want something new) and so on.

No, players decided they want reduced waypoint costs and Kiel would’ve won anyway, I can bet my kitten on that.

This, If it had been anything else other then a reduced cost of Black Lion keys linked with it, then perhaps we would have had a shot at the Abbadon fractal.

No. There was zero chance of Evon winning. Kiel being a human female and Evon being a charr was probably enough to guarantee her win. Add to that the fact that Evon was portrayed as a bad guy upon introduction and his fate was sealed.

Why the Dungeon System Is Broken.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Lord Kuru.3685

Lord Kuru.3685

If Anet fixed existing dungeon issues, adding new lvl 80 only paths with more difficult encounters and better rewards would be a possible answer.

To me, this is the REAL issue. AC gives 1g50s per path per day, while all other dungeons besides Arah gives 1g5s. IMHO This should be scaled more appropriately to encourage players to run the more difficult content, while still rewarding them for running the lower scaled paths.

i.e. 75s for AC paths (35), 1g for CM paths(45), 1g25s for TA up/forward (55), 3g for Aetherpath (80), 2g for SE (65), 2g25s for CoF (75), 3g for CoE, HotW and Arah p3 (80), 6g for Arah p1/2/4 (80)

Anet already did this. And the current rewards system is the best they could come up with. Don’t expect more.

3. Halloween 2 candy corn sinks. There was an insane amount of candy corn in the world (10’s of billions) and we underestimated the distribution of those materials and cranked up the sinks too high. This made it very difficult to interact with those sinks at all and it didn’t feel good.

Can we infer from this that a large number of people quit the game between Halloween 1 and Halloween 2, essentially taking those billions of candy corn out of the economy (without literally doing so)? Or something else?

The original plan was to be different from traditional MMOs, but it’s more and more like them as each day passes.

You might consider leveling to 80 in EoTM’s karma train before “starting” to play your character for real because the new trait system makes leveling really tedious (e.g. no traits until level 30).

You’re downscaled in lower level zones so you can still come back to the lower levels as a level 80.

If you like creating/discovering builds for yourself definitely do this because you’re going to be stuck with the same traits for level after level if you do it the intended way.

EoTM = WvW is dead?

Lord Kuru.3685

Even as we speak, prime time on T1 on my server were still outnumbered 3 out of the 4 maps most nights (sometimes outnumbered all 4). EoTM you can always find a zerg to run with but the problem is, it’s all karma train. Now that’s fine if you want to level up an alt or just feel like running around capturing things with little engagement, but I don’t see how this will keep people occupied for much longer.

I agree that EoTM should become part of the WvW score rotation which even further reinforces why servers should be combined in such a way it’s faction vs faction, guild vs guild, or color vs color (whatever you wan’t to call it). I think EoTM is a perfect example of what WvW maps would look like (numbers wise) if servers were in fact combined. All maps should have enough players to keep fully stocked most of the day.

Numbers in EoTM are deceptive. A great majority are not WvW players and will instantly disappear once the karma train ceases to be.

EoTM is not WvW’s problem unless you count the WvW dev time wasted in creating it that could have been spent on real WvW issues.
