It’s interesting how people try to shift the blame to outside parties: “oh, they hired this one person from Nexon who’s doing XXX,” or: “it must be NCSoft who’s forcing them to do XXX.”
- More temporary open world zerg content.
- No dungeon content except for stealth nerfs.
- No meaningful WvW content (tournaments don’t count).
- More hats in the gemstore.
Pick any server and count how many balanced matchups there are for that server. You’ll see that there is no tournament format that can work.
In 1 year and 9 months since release the only permanent content that has been added is Southsun Cove, TA Aetherblade Path, FOTM and EOTM.
I wouldn’t really call that “amazing”.
The following is what my guild came up with in under 5 mins, and im sure there is a lot more we missed. if you only see those 4 things its cause that’s what your letting yourself see.
Southsun Cove
Crab toss
Sanctum Sprint
A lot of dynamic events they didn’t tell us about at the time they added them
TA aetherblade path
FoTM
EoTM
Belcher’s Bluff
Spirit hammer pvp map
Moa racing(currently not there atm due to destruction of LA)
Spirit watch pvp map
The new pvp map I cant remember its name came with feature patch
Karka queen world event
Triple trouble world event
Ascended armor and accessories
Pve wallet
and more wvw abilities.
For 1.5 years, that’s a really sad list. And it’s clear you’re desperately trying to pad it when you add stuff that’s not in the game (Moa racing) and WvW abilities, none of which takes no more than 10 minutes of work to implement.
You can report them, but you can be pretty much guaranteed nothing will happen.
Makes no sense to keep it forever, as it was just part of the living story season 1.
the season is ove,r so why should Anet keep the chest.
It dropped anyway mostly only bad stuff out from it and wasn’t worth the collecting of the key parts.
So why do key pieces still drop?
The final crafted item is often worth less than the raw materials because part of raw materials’ value is in the form of XP.
I just got a tri-color key from TA storymode. Do tri-color chests still exist? The wiki says no.
This new trait system just encourages people to k-train EoTM until level 80, and only then begin playing the game. This is not the type of gameplay that’s good for customer retention.
Run or dodge/evade through her (from in front to in back) to lose aggro — at least temporarily.
Because it gives you more crit chance when you have more than 1 signet?
Personally, I use it on my war, not because it’s buggued but I need crits (I’m using valkyrie amulet).
no, it’s called exploit, srsly. it would be hilarious if anet does nothing to this when people publicly confess they are using a bug and they think it’s cool
It was used by one of the top teams in the recent PvP tournament. I don’t think Anet cares.
The game is designed to be played by zerging. So it’s perfect that there’s a zerg going around in starting areas — let’s new players learn how to zerg.
No it’s not. The developers have outright stated that the Zerging is a problem from both a technical and gameplay standpoint, and are trying to find ways to reduce it without penalizing smaller-scale spontaneous groupings.
They can say whatever they want, but in reality, all their recent content have been zerg oriented.

Maybe the victim server deserves to be destroyed?
No sense of community = no one cares (in EoTM’s case: about winning or losing).
That’s why it’s just a big k-train. Megaservers in PvE: same problem. Anet should have learned something from the failure of EoTM.
Do you still not get it?
Season 2 is not there for the sake of players, but for the sake of Anet buying time for their next living story.
They don’t wanna lose players yknow.
Exactly this. Look at when the tournament ends compared to the date of the China launch. Coincidence? I think not. If you think Anet even considered the interests of the WvW game mode when creating this tournament, you’re fooling yourself. WvW is but a disposable pawn to Anet.
Everyone is going to be able to get the weapons if they want. You just won’t get them from the tickets but there will be a way to craft them if you really want one.
No. Look up the crafting requirements.
Run to some random mobs and wipe again. This should reset the wall.
The personal story is terrible. But what’s really a bad sign is that the Living Story is even worse. Their storytelling is not improving — it’s getting worse.
As long as i know this was not their intent and they will eventually figure it out. I’m cool with that.
I love the new wardrobe system.
Did you read their reply? What they’re really saying is they’re not going to fix it.
- Run EoTM karma train until you’re 80.
- Look up a build on the web and with the gold you’ve earned, buy only the traits you need.
- Spend the rest of your gold on gear.
- Begin to play the game.
And completely miss out on the part where you get to respec for free to test new builds as you play. So, the option now is zerg til you’re 80 then pick a meta build and zerg in your meta build.
Yup, sounds like tons of fun. :/
The way the game is designed now, this is actually one of the better options for playing the game.

Why are people only now getting an understanding of the point system? Last week Far Shiverpeaks realized they could actually lose and not get penalized points-wise just to skip a match with Gandara. Most other servers that are tied for second place knew of this from the beginning and didn’t withstand unfair PPT wars every second week ^^
So was there a concerted effort to lose? And if so, was there any controversy within the server because of that? This kind of thing can really damage a server — which is why no one should be put into a situation where the incentive is to lose.
Tanking scores is incredibly easy and doesn’t have to be at the expense of casuals. All you need to do is to allow some structure to be capped by the enemy servers for tick, and karma train them. You aren’t getting points, your casuals get loot, open field fights still go on and everyone is happy
Almost inevitably, people will discuss the tanking in mapchat and that’ll lead to fights between those who want to tank and those who feel you should never tank.
And then you have people who get overzealous and start griefing their own server (waste supplies, build useless siege, the usual) to make sure they lose.
This all happened on NSP before Season 1. It damaged the server and it took quite a while to recover from that.
Its probably safe to say once the China hype is over, things will start getting looked at and fixed. Until then, it is how it is.
Why is it safe to say that?

Anet: Can we get SOME feed back about the things in this thread?! Someplace? Here? FAcebook even? I don’t care, I just want something that tells me someone is seriously reading this and not plugging their ears in a corner somewhere.
Remember that enormous thread about the mining pick that gave sprockets? There was never a reply nor any acknowledgement that it was an issue. They’re going to stay silent and hope this all passes.
The megaserver system makes reporting and displaying the state of your destination map accurately quite impossible. With this in mind, we’ve decided to disable reporting of world state across maps entirely.
As a player, this will impact you in the following ways:
- Waypoints—All contestable waypoints on any map you’re not currently playing in will always appear contested. When you arrive in the map, you will be able to travel to these waypoints pending their local status.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/the-megaserver-system-world-bosses-and-events/
I frequently see contestable WPs being shown as open when viewed from another map. Arah dungeon WP for example.
You’re addressing the wrong issue. They almost certainly know how to fix the hacking. They just don’t want to spend the effort to do it. You should be telling them why they absolutely need to fix the hacking.
So you’re going to get infracted for nothing.
Sure, so they preferred to delete existing mechanic (orbs) overhaul BL maps to add new mechanic, just because it’s so easy.
Deleting the orbs = easy. There were zero plans to replace them with anything.
The new bloodlust ruins came much later, when they were still hoping to get people to play sPvP (hence the similarities between the ruins and sPvP)

Lots of people say that SoS would never do this. Probably true in the current situation.
But imagine if doing this was the difference between getting a mistforged weapon or not getting one (I wouldn’t be surprised if a server in Silver is in this exact situation).
Even if that’s not enough to cause tanking, it may bring about discord within the server between those who want to win, and those who just want the rewards. This can really damage a server (NSP in WvW Season 1 saw exactly this when many wanted to tank into Bronze before the season and many others didn’t).
If it’s better to lose than to win (and in this SoS example, it’s better if they tank twice!) then the system is designed badly.
Chris, you do not speak for the majority of SoS. The top 3 servers of Tier 1 have functional war councils that can decide and execute strategies. It is no small feat to coordinate many guilds to follow the same strategy.
The only server that is worried about SoS strategy these coming weeks is BG as this post’s analysis suggest a possibility of them ending up as 5th place in season 2 rather than the predicted 1st place. This is potentially a fatal blow that can cause mass exodus of their guilds to other servers. I am sure SoS understands very well how it is to fall from rank 1 , free-fall and struggle back up again. However, to pull off a grand strategy, it all depends on SoS war council ability.
Good historical link to read up on : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Red_Cliffs
Well SoS doesn’t seem to be following the plan atm. Of course, they should consider working with Maguuma about this.
Actually, they don’t need to work with anyone. That’s why this is so bad. It doesn’t even have the aspect of inter-server politics that would slightly alleviate the badness.
They just have to tank, but not so badly that their ratings change drastically.
In short, the megaserver has killed the sense of server-based community, which was THE best thing about the game.
Remember that rush when Teq was revamped and the idea of a true open world raid style boss had everyone clamouring for world first? Remember servers banding together to try to work out how to do it all by themselves without outside help? Yeah, that’s not happening again.
All sorts of communities have been tossed in the trash with the MegaServer system, from RPers to hardcore PvEers to WvWers. I guess that’s what some call progress?
EoTM (basically WvW megaserver) told us this was going to happen. Its lack of community reduced it into a PvE karma train. Anet either didn’t learn from this or doesn’t care.
- Most people on your team are anonymous in EoTM.
- No community = no one cares.
- Conclusion: no one cares about winning in EoTM, so it devolves in to karma training.
Too bad Anet didn’t learn from this because it’s the same problem now in PvE with megaservers.
Well the swiss tournament is better in the larger leagues. NA Gold has to few servers for the system to work.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the same situation can be seen in Silver league. In that case, you’d want to find a server that wants to avoid the HoD/FA matchup and can push another server into more matchups with HoD/FA by losing on purpose.
I think you’d need more servers to make Swiss a viable format (or reduce the tournament length to 3-4 weeks). Or, you can change the points system of 1 for 3rd place, 3 for 2nd, and 5 for 1st.
This is, in a way, worse because it doesn’t require any politics — which I guess some see as “part of the game.” One server can do this all by itself.
Here’s a quick analysis of Gold League NA, which shows the Swiss Tournament may be a bad thing. I believe we are in a situation where SoS has more incentive to lose than win. This is bad tournament matchup design (remember the Olympics Badminton controversy?).
This is not a matchup thread but rather a discussion on the flaws of the Swiss Tournament format.
If all goes normally, scores will be:
BG: 17:18:23:24:29 <—- score at end of tournament
SoS: 17:22:23:28:29 <—- score at end of tournament
where each number is the points that server has at the beginning of the week (starting week 6, which is this week — and ending at the “beginning of week 10”, which is the end of the tournament).
So BG and SoS will be tied with 29 points. If ties are broken by ratings points, as many people have speculated, then BG will take 3rd and SoS 4th as BG will almost certainly have a higher rating (the gap between the two is currently very large).
But:
SoS has a chance of tying for 3rd with Maguuma instead… and in the case of ratings tiebreaker, will almost certainly take third. Here’s how it works:
//////////////////////////////////
This week (week 6):
BG gets 1 point for total of 18.
SoS loses to both Mag and DB, with Mag placing 1st. SoS and Mag both end up with 18 pts.
So BG/SoS/Mag points are: 18/18/18
////////////////////////////////
Week 7:
TC vs JQ vs BG (as BG has higher rating than SoS and Mag) and
SoS vs Mag vs DB.
BG gets 1 point for a total of 19.
SoS loses again to both Mag and DB. Mag places 1st. SoS ends up with 19 pts, Mag with 23.
So BG/SoS/Mag points are 19/19/23
/////////////////////////////////////////////////
Week 8:
TC vs JQ vs Mag and
BG vs SoS vs DB
Mag gets 1 point for a total of 24.
BG wins with SoS second. Their points are: 24 for BG and 22 for SoS.
So BG/SoS/Mag points are 24/22/24.
////////////////////////////////////////////////
Week 9:
TC vs JQ vs BG and
SoS vs Mag vs DB
BG gets 1 point for a total of 25
SoS wins with Mag second. Their points are 27 (SoS) and 27 (Mag).
so BG/SoS/Mag points are 25/27/27 to finish the season.
/////////////////////////////////////////////////
So SoS and Mag tie for 3rd. But if ratings are used as tiebreakers, SoS takes third, Mag 4th, and BG 5th.
Of course, SoS will have to make sure its ratings don’t fall too much compared to Mag, but their ratings gap is quite big, so that’s not too hard to arrange (don’t lose too badly when you lose).
//////////////////////////////////
TLDR: In the case of tiebreakers by rating at the end of the tournament, SoS can take 3rd instead of 4th by getting losing (getting 3rd) twice on purpose (this week and next).

Everyone’s on the edge of their seat, wanting to know how they rank.
Dungeon forum and Trashcan are interchangeable to them, I guess.
iWarden on an asuran is the same. The animation with the whirling axes is much smaller than the actual hit area.
starring a dev who is interested in the topic
Here’s your problem. You’re not going to find any such dev for WvW.
Wait, people actually kill those? But.. there’s a boss right there to be killed instead.
For solo runs, I think it helps to understand when they’re destructible so you can position yourself to cleave them away — this allows more room for error at the end of the fight.
For a party, I doubt there’s any need to bother with them.
If they actually did this, it’d likely cause many of those who grinded out Ascended zerker gear to quit.
For better or worse, GW2’s PvE is stuck with the zerker meta forever because it’s so tedious to reach max level gear after you hit 80.
.. and if so, how did it go? Does the boss just appear? Or does a pre-event first start up? How did you deal with all the randoms? Did you overflow the map and then taxi before activating the event?
Stops on bus routes have signs telling you the bus schedule. Since doing world bosses is more or less the same as adhering to a bus schedule, they should have signs at each boss telling you arrival times.
I guess then, as now, investigating and banning hack users is just not worth Anet’s time.
The funny thing is that if the tournament ended on an even instead of odd week, the rankings would be quite different.
I’m not sure what to say, exactly.
It’s apparent they’d made some attempts to revamp earlier on that for one reason or another never got off the ground beyond the two initial efforts. So it’s, not as though they’re not willing to do it, they just seemingly can’t manage the actual traction?
Actually, it’s exactly that they’re not willing to do it. After the first revamp, they disbanded the dungeon team.
I’ve heard that guesting to another server gives a good chance you’ll end up in a megaserver instance different from the one you’re in now.
I’ve also heard that there’s no longer a limit to the number of times you can guest per day.
If true, you can use these to:
- Get into another instance if the event you’re doing is bugged.
- QD champ train: with Spider gone, the wait at boar is longer than ever. Instead of waiting: after you kill the last boss before boar, guest to another server and map to where their champ train is at. Rinse and repeat. You’ll be killing equal or more bosses this way (equal if there’s only a single QD instance).
