Orb of Power. What happened to it?

Lord Kuru.3685

You know what? Whatever happened to Orb of Power? It seemed like a good concept. I remembered the thrill of attacking a keep to take a server’s orb and then escorting the player with the orb back to our territory. Was quite tense. Then you’d have enemy team trying to take it or stop us from taking it back.

Although, it did kinda suck of the enemy had all 3 orbs…

Flyhacking let you simply teleport it away. :/

I wonder if they considered the alternate solution of removing the hacks?

From what i noticed you need to wait for then to “spawn”. After when Belka loses an X amount of hp the barrels explode and then become targetable. But if you wipe on the first try the next time you run back all the barrels that exploded are targetable. So if you wipe once the second try is easier.

The barrels also respawn after a certain time, so you have to kill then again.

Yes… it’s the dying and returning for a second try that made it seem so inconsistent!

I’ve reported those who sold AC path 1 as a thief, and it says on the “report” window that if there is no chat log and abuse of this will terminate my account?
Im sure Anet isn’t blind enough to terminate my acc for reporting exploters who are selling AC path 1.
There has been way many people doing it…

Yes. You can be banned. Read the rules of conduct, you will be “investigated and face possible account suspension or account termination.” Perhaps you should send an apology through support?

It creates more trolls because people are more anonymous now. You log in and you’re with people you’ve never seen and will never see again. This is the perfect breeding ground for trolls. See: internet.

Anet greatly underestimated the value of servers and server communities and now we’ve got what we got.

They should have known. EoTM was a test for megaservers and a big reason it’s a fail is because it has no sense of community — people don’t feel like they need to win. So now it’s just a massive karma train.

I think they don’t want to reveal how many (or few) instances of each map exists at one time. As for “technologically impossible” — you’re right, total BS excuse invented by white knights.

I didn’t realize Anthony Ordon was a white knight now. Cool.

Look, with enough time and money, anything is technologically possible. ArenaNet just determined that the resource cost to do it this was was too high.

You can dislike that conclusion, but you will always have less information than ArenaNet did when they made it.

Some of us just recognize that we don’t know enough to say they could have easily done it. Don’t berate us as “white knights” for that.

It’s too hard to create a dropdown menu? It’s too hard to use the same code from selecting a world to guest on? You do realize guesting is just moving from one instance to another. Anet’s excuse is total BS.

still don’t understand why mega server was not just added as extra server next to the existing servers. use mega as an underflow option when you enter a low population map (give popup like when server was ready to get out of overflow) so you can opt to join there.

A lot of people are saying this. The real reason we have megaservers is to save Anet money. The fewer map instances, the less server resources are needed, the more money Anet saves.

It may very well be the case to save money, although I doubt that myself. I think the fault is in the mind set that has set in. GW1 had an elegant and simple approach to servers, best exemplified by big events like Halloween. The servers would be numbered sequentially, and in essence when one filled up, another was created and acted as the ‘overflow’.
If you wanted to get in and meet up with a group, it was easy—‘hey guys, meet up in server **, see you there’. Easy, simple, effective—everything you want.

But with GW2 you hear—‘cant be done—technologically imposable’, and I think people are buying into this. There’s a huge difference between can’t, and won’t because, hey, that was GW1, it has a 1 in it, we don’t want to do that because, this is GW2 and has a 2 in it.

I think they don’t want to reveal how many (or few) instances of each map exists at one time. As for “technologically impossible” — you’re right, total BS excuse invented by white knights.

EoTM was a testbed for megaservers.

It failed in terms of gameplay (it’s merely a karma train now) because of lack of community: people are dumped into the map allied with those from other servers — people you’ve never met and will never meet again in subsequent logins. There’s no sense of identity so no one cares whether they win or lose.

Megaservers in PvE: same thing. Everyone in your instance is some random player whom you’ve never met and will never meet again. This brings the troll out of people and we’ve seen it quite a bit since April 15.

Anet had a chance to learn from the EoTM mistake. But they didn’t. They likely won’t learn anything from megaservers either.

The entire purpose of these access logs is for you to know if someone unauthorized has logged into your email, thus they are unalterable by you or anyone else who’s logged in.

Roy Cronacher

One of the main goals for balance in Guild Wars 2 is to support a wide variety of builds that cater to different play styles. The current implementation of critical damage works against this. Put simply, if critical damage-stacked builds are more effective than other approaches, the build diversity decreases. As we work to increase support and teamwork between players throughout the game, we examined how we could change critical damage to retain it as a fun and viable approach to build-making while also allowing other builds to shine.

source:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/learn-about-critical-damage-changes/

The above did not appear to impact dungeon meta at all.
I would love to see the condition necro have a good reputation in dungeons… or any condition build for that matter.

I hope someone has told them they’re doing it wrong. It’s mob AI and mechanics they should be working on. But even if they succeed, people aren’t going to want to grind another set of Ascended gear to replace their zerker gear. Anet screwed up big time on that.

Nothing has come out of the CDIs in either PvE, PvP, or WvW. They’re purely a public relations ploy.

Anet has already decided what they want to do and are just fishing for people to “suggest” those exact ideas in the CDIs — when this happens, it makes the company appear as if it’s listening.

Lord Kuru.3685

Apparently, Swiss tournaments are used in chess. Do you see this a lot in chess tournaments:

  • The four top competitors are A, B, C, D.
  • A always beats everyone. B and C always beats D.
  • B and C are close enough in points that if the one who’s ahead in ranking loses and the other wins, then they swap positions in the rankings. Let’s say B is currently ranked above C.
  • The current matchup is A vs B and C vs D.

In this situation, B loses and C wins so they swap positions, so the next matchup is:

  • A vs C and B vs D… where C loses and B wins, so the swap positions and the next matchup is:
  • A vs B and C vs D …etc.

This goes on until the tournament ends. The problem is that 2nd place is determined by which matchup took place right before the tournament ended; and not by a head-to-head match between the two.

Does this type of situation happen a lot in Chess? Because it seems to be a bit to common in the WvW tournament.

because Anet didn’t think through the consequences of the transmutation crystal change.

No, it’s more likely because people used transmutation items to get around the inability to salvage karma/wvw gear and not have to spend money on replacing the upgrades. The only reason you could shift the runes and sigils around was because the “wardrobe” system could not determine what was the source item and what was the skin item. Now that the wardrobe system is capable of doing that, there’s zero reason to allow people to shift runes and sigils. Players used transmutation to shift the runes from gear that cant be salvaged? Oh well, that was never the intended use of transmutation in the first place and now the unintended use has been removed.

Players are complaining over that fact. They cant understand, or are unwilling to understand, that the use they found for transmutation stones was never the intended purpose.

In this case Anet still screwed up bigtime: by giving zero indication when purchasing karma/WvW gear, that they behave differently than expected.

Population/coverage gaps are too big between even servers that are adjacent in ranking.

Are you even in Silver League? If you were, you’d realize that the population/coverage gaps between YB/SBI/IoJ aren’t that large. Again, the first YB/IoJ/NSP was extremely close in score. The reason that the scores don’t appear as close as they should is because (1) servers aren’t going to go all out mid-season when end-season is all that matters and (2) there’s always a weakest server (CD/NSP) that fails to relieve pressure from the second place server. If the match-up were YB/SBI/IoJ, the scores would actually be very close, assuming all three servers were fighting it out without an agenda.

Mid-season, end-season.. it won’t make a difference. You’ll go all out but your opponents will go all out also. As for YB/SBI/IoJ: Irrelevant because that’s a matchup that won’t happen. The fact is that it’ll be YB/IoJ/NSP and SBI/IoJ/CD every other week and the way it always goes is that the weakest server in the matchup will be hitting IoJ most often; if for no other reason than the fact that the top server will have more upgraded towers and so harder to hit.

The NSP vs IoJ a couple weeks ago is a good example. NSP was doing great but that’s because people were putting in LOTS of exta hours. But that couldn’t be sustained. In the end NSP was crushed by a fairly large margin.

Again, that wasn’t so much NSP as it was YB. YB spent a lot of resources shutting IoJ down early. NSP just reaped the benefits by backcapping what YB papered and taking our assets while we were focused on YB.

Wow. No credit to NSP.

Ties are broken by Glicko, so there really are no ties.

I was under the impression that Season 1 allowed ties at the end (at least in terms of the rewards) and that this season would be the same. Did they say otherwise somewhere (makes a HUGE difference in terms of the reward tickets).

A number of other players have confirmed the Glicko tiebreaker (maybe from the dev streams?). That said, it’d be nice to get an official response.

that is true, UNLESS IoJ beats YB/SBI or YB/SBI beat FA…

Won’t happen.

The rest of the matchups for IoJ will be: YB/IoJ /NSP and SBI/IoJ/CD. These matches have already happened (YB/IoJ/NSP twice). Similarly FA’s future matches have already happened: HoD/FA/SBI and HoD/FA/YB.

Just because a mach up has happened doesn’t mean the results won’t change. YB/IoJ/NSP was extremely close the first time, and that was with IoJ getting effectively doubleteamed.

It’s tough to predict how seasons will end because until the final couple of weeks, there’s absolutely no incentive for servers to push their hardest. It doesn’t matter if IoJ or YB wins this week because only the final week will determine who places higher.

i call bs on double teamed.. But you are right, it CAN change…

NSP focussed IoJ. YB did it’s own thing (most likely attacked whoever had the most paper towers). It didn’t end up close at all though by the end of the week.

It is possible a server will pull off a miracle. But IMO that’s what it’s going to take to change the final result.

1. HoD — Undisputable.
2. FA — Undisputable.

9. SoR — Undisputable.

Let’s analyze the rest of the servers. I’m assuming:

  • BP can’t beat anyone but SoR
  • IoJ can’t beat SBI/YB and will always beat NSP/CD.

(IMO very reasonable assumptions looking at past matchups .. especially since future matchups will look exactly like the ones from the past 2 weeks.)

/////////////////////////////////////////////////

One of SBI/YB will fight HoD and FA every other week and will place 3rd in that match. The other will win their matchup guaranteed (IoJ has zero chance against either). Because of this their points will be (starting at the end of week 5, which is this week):

YB: 17 18 23 24 29 <—— so YB has 29 pts at the end of week 9, when this all ends.
SBI: 15 20 21 26 27 <—— SBI has 27 pts at the end of week 9.

So YB gets 3rd in the tournament. (Note if the tournament ends after an even week, SBI would place above YB.)

/////////////////////////////////////////////////

NSP and CD are in a similar situation. One will be matched up with BP and SoR every other week and win that match while the other will place 3rd that week. So points will go:

NSP: 13 18 19 24 25
CD: 15 16 21 22 27 <——— so CD places ahead of NSP (despite the fact that NSP beat CD head-to-head in week 1 — in fact if NSP had thrown the match in week 1, they and CD would swap point totals!)

(Note that if the tournament ended in an even week NSP would place ahead of CD.)

/////////////////////////////////////////////////

BP will be #2 in every match for the rest of the tournament. They will always beat SoR and lose to either CD or NSP. They will score:

BP: 13 16 19 22 25

/////////////////////////////////////////////////

IoJ will be #2 in every match for the rest of the tournament. History tells us they can’t beat SBI or YB. Their point totals will be:

IoJ: 15 18 21 24 27

/////////////////////////////////////////////////

So SBI, IOJ, and CD will all have 27 points; tied for 4th place.

NSP and BP will have 25 points; tied for 7th place.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////

TLDR:

In short: HoD FA YB (SBI IoJ CD) (NSP BP) SoR , where parentheses mean tie.

If everything ended on an even week, then: HoD FA SBI (YB IoJ NSP) (CD BP) SoR.

Oh, by the way, we’ll have the same matchups every other week until the end.

I think this season has been great. I’m in silver, and so many positions are still up for grabs. Sure, HoD is running away with 1st, and SoR is going to finish last, since they should be in bronze and GoM in silver.

BP seems to be a lock for 8th. After that, we can speculate on the finishes, but it only takes 1 upset to rock everything. And, YB, IoJ, SBI are all capable of beating each other. NSP is even pushing IoJ hard and might be able to upset IoJ, depending on how YB pushes IoJ as well. CD can benefit from these upsets as well as NSP. So, yeah, the season has been great, and the format is awesome. Just need to not offer free transfers the week before the season.

Almost none are up for grabs:

1. HoD — For sure.
2. FA — For sure.

9. SoR — For sure.

Let’s analyze the rest of the servers:

One of SBI/YB will fight HoD and FA every other week and will place 3rd in that match. The other will win their matchup guaranteed (IoJ has zero chance against either). Because of this their points will be (starting at the end of week 5, which is this week):

So YB gets 3rd in the tournament. (Note if the tournament ends after an even week, SBI would get 3rd.)

BP will be #2 in every match for the rest of the tournament. They will always beat SoR and lose to either CD or NSP. They will score:

BP: 13 16 19 22 25

IoJ will be #2 in every match for the rest of the tournament. History tells us they can’t beat SBI or YB. Their point totals will be:

IoJ: 15 18 21 24 27

So SBI, IOJ, and CD will all have 27 points; tied for 4th place.
NSP and BP will have 25 points; tied for 7th place.

In short: HoD FA YB (SBI IoJ CD) (NSP BP) SoR … parens mean tie.

If everything ended on an even week, then: HoD FA SBI (YB IoJ NSP) (CD BP) SoR.

It’s not overpriced. You’re attempting to use it for something that it wasn’t designed for. It’s purpose is to gouge those who need to recover infusions from gear (they can cost hundreds of gold).

Using them to recover runes/sigils was never intended. The fact that they’re the only things that can extract off of karma/WvW gear is only so because Anet didn’t think through the consequences of the transmutation crystal change.
