Once these players realize this, they’ll be much happier with having the gear that they can afford to have.
But that isn’t fun.
Is the fun the journey to collecting mats and crafting BiS? Or is the fun in having the BiS?
For most it’s the latter seeing as there is so much hate toward ascended things atm
tbh I think people exaggerate the term “casual” already… no one that is, in my eyes, casual even plays every day, let alone 3-4 hours a day. Casual to me is someone who comes and goes, plays maybe 2-4 days a week maybe an hour or 2 each time.. the problem is that most people don’t realize theres a middle ground between casual and hardcore being the “serious” crowd… serious enough about the game to want to get some of the high end shinies but not hardcore enough that missing something is the end of the world to them.
Log in with all my alts I never use parked at JP’s for my emp frag and silver doubloon farming
Log onto my main and do all the ascended crafting mat crafting for the day
Check the daily pannel and click on all the super easy ones (usually 6-8 of them)
Rock out those dailies in like 20-30 minutes
Listen to my girlfriend complain about me playing
Play for about another half hour doing world bosses
Log off….. If I have additional time to play though…
Work on meta achievement (if it’s not something awful and boring looking)
Play a little WvW
Log off.
1. Make ascended weapons/armors the precursor to legendaries to give a real reason to work as hard as people have to in order to acquire them.
2. Add an armor filter to the BLTP and make the interface a little less clunky (different less awful text, and rearrange the tabs to work a little better with one another like when checking the current price of something under the “items im buying/selling” tab)
3. Rangers pets STAY STOWED… and provide some sort of boost to your stats for having them stowed so you’re not punished in certain situations for having the pet or annoyed when doing jumping puzzles or running to locations.
4. Henchmen or some form of that for dungeons, and get rid of the gimmicky things that require you to have x amount of players to hit x amount of things to advance to the next area.
5. Make cultural armors exotic not rare… forcing someone to drop 120g then buy transmutation crystals is kinda bothersome to me.
6. Readjust the prices for some of the consumable items on the trading post or make a viable way to acquire them in pve (I mean really… when you take into consideration gem conversion and the lack of real ways to acquire some of the things like trans crystals and boosts it gets a bit crazy) and make skins acquired on there go to the achievement pannel for additional alt uses.
7. GUILD HALLS GUILD HALLS GUILD HALLS GUILD HALLS.
They should just scrap the leaderboard idea period… keep it around for pvp or whatever but get rid of the achievements part.
More skins outside of the gem/ticket shop, much much muuuuuch less scarlet (like maybe a group of norns hunt her down and beat her to death with sacks of oranges so we never have to see her again), guild management tools, gold to gem official cap at 10g per 100, guild halls, legendary armor.
Not to mention the time to invest in mats was like 2 or 3 months ago
What will GW2 have for us in 2014? Well, Scarlet will reveal she has a twin sister and then we will have DOUBLE TROUBLE! O.O
Ok I retract my previous complaint about the lack of guild halls… but if this really happens I will probably take all my characters to the top of the bank building in LA and have them jump to their deaths one by one and quit after that hahaha
They can feel free to secure my loyalty anytime now byy introducing the housing features that they said would be in game a year ago… if not, that would be quite literally the last straw for me if that’s not out well before the new games are, I been patient enough about it.
I’ve played several MMOs that had housing, it’s pointless and massively overrated. You decorate it once as a massive currency sink, show it to your friends, get bored in 2 seconds and never go back again.
Yep , I also been there done that and yes it is boring fast.
Semi-offtopic but if the game needs anything its a big currency sink for all these people who have thousands and thousands of gold… and its way more people than most would think..
Wow this has obviously gone completely over your heads. Wanting mix and match armor is not the problem, I used a mixed set as well.
You aren’t thinking clearly. how are you going to feel when you cant control how your armor mixes. What are you going to do when you have an ascended chest piece that doesn’t match anything else at all.
Then use a transmutation crystal… they’re on sale quite often and I get them in daily rewards so frequently I have almost a stack. And for your arguement of needing expensive aplitters… plan ahead… if it kills you to have one piece looking weird while you acquire the set… wait til you have the whole thing then equip and make it look how you want…
So… you don’t want to do all world completion to get the gift… but use the excuse that if you want to make more than 8 or so legendaries then you have to delete a character? If you can’t get yourself to do 1 world comoletion its a stretch to be worried about your 5th already. And like the person posted above if you can afford to craft all those legendaries you should easily be able to afford an additional slot.

And having played gw1 for over 7 years which I used the guild hall daily and multiple times a day and having bought gw2 under the impression we would have them fairly soon after release it saddened me quite a bit to still not have them… it was honestly next to heroes my favorite part of gw1 cause it gave everyone somewhere to meet away from the rabble and get things coordinated and had all the vendors and crafting people and stuff… it was very convenient. Not to mention it could provide a central location like LA to us with less load times if done prooerly.
Useless, guild chat channel > guild ‘base’. A nice addition, no doubt, but fairly pointless still. It’s a let down in general, was my point, certainly not a reason to ditch a game.
And that may be your opinion which you’re more than welcome to but personally with reasons to stick around dwindling for myself it would be a nice addition to keep me around… while you and many others wouldn’t ditch the game for this reason and may find it silly to think that way it is what it is… its no sillier than all these ridiculous complaints about the manifesto not being followed or whatever too… they’re all expectations that weren’t fulfilled. This one just happened to come way more recently lol
Seems funny these were the runt of the perma contract litter last year while just about no one wanted em at 90g… now that they’re ridiculously expensive everyone wants one… funny how that works eh?
Was just thinking how awesome it would be if it was offered on the gem store for 2k gems or something, and how angry those people who bought it for a legendary + worth of gold would be.
Hahahaha oh dear lord please anet please!!!! The forums would be a mad house, would be worse than the flame kissed debacle.
To be honest, the price of goods in the Trading Post fluctuates. I’m fine with some things getting lowered from ungodly high prices. Something that is strictly a convenience like the Permanent Hairstyle Kit, I am fine with seeing become cheaper. I’d rather Legendaries remained the big price tags on the Trading Post (though I also want to see them become Account Bound).
Okay, I’m glad you’re okay with it. I’m just wondering if someone who spent 3.3k gold would be okay with it.
I only referred to legendaries for the cost. I know that they fluctuate, I was just saying that if someone bought the hair kit they could have bought 1-2 legendaries instead, so I’m guessing they wouldn’t be all that happy.
Who cares about those who spent the 3.3k? They surely didn’t get 3.3k by playing normally. So they either farmed obsessively (contributing to inflation), played the TP (yeah, that makes me care about them…lol), bought gold, or got extremely lucky. None of which to me warrants sustaining such elevated prices.
No sympathy here for those who spent thousands on these… if they have thousands of gold to frivilously blow on something like that then they’re really not hurting for funds in the first place.

I mix and match armors on all my characters, I have 4 level 80s with at least 2-4 sets each and I think I only have 1 actual full set of a specific armor.. I think it looks better/a lot less plain if you mix and match
That or they really need to bump some “lessendaries” to ascended status because of how ridiculously expensive they are.
@kopper
anyway people like u ( “fanboy” no offence man but u sound like one lol)who are defending the devs even when they forget their promise remind me of rift the game i used to play and like but went down the toilet, when it went ftp and lost so many player, same people who were defending it admitted that they are sorry for not helping the game to get better.peace man
And anyone who is going to hold devs to their exact words from well well WELL before the game was out is absolutely naieve as to how the world operates because sometimes things come up that prevent things from going along exactly as planned. I’m not saying I like the way the devs took the game so far either so I’m not defendinf their decisions in the slightest but it turns my stomach everytime I hear someone ramble on about somre manifesto from ages ago… that was then, this is now, all the whining in the world won’t change it.

Darkness itself doesn’t instill fear… it just kitten es me off because I can’t see a kitten thing and whatever I’m doing takes twice as long so kudos to anet for not making it worse.
The rewards are still more than what I was expecting from the chest… still glad I skipped the 7 weeks though.
I would really really consider it, the only detraction being that the only thing I have to use SB currently is my thief and I just got him a dreamthistle skin a couple weeks back.
I’d rather them finish off scarlet first. Do you really want her popping back up in the middle of an elder dragon story?
“Scarlet was hit by a Charr High School football team bus and is now dead”… easy enough to write her off and pursue other avenues.
They should just go right ahead and let foo be traded instead of reintroducing him… i have a couple extra I wouldn’t mind letting someone else enjoy for the right price.
Spoiler – her heart will grow three sizes that day.
well she does resemble the Grinch in many ways.
Seriously there should be other ways to obtain it rather than wait 8-9 days just to have enough to make ONE charged quartz not to mention it being account bound and craft-able once per day. Not to mention it takes 42 days mining that node in your home instance just to make 1 exotic inscription.
few silver each on the tp right now… no need to wait days to charge 1 quartz
That’s why I didn’t buy one about a year ago.
I’d say not enough is in the Gem Store.
Give me perma-trader/banker/merchant/trait reset/hairstylist/makeover available for purchase without RNG.
They are, they’re on the TP minus the makeover and trait reset
I have about 300 stacks of various materials squirreled away for this in hopes I will be able to finish the professions and finish 2 sets, 1 for my warrior main and 1 for my thief for wvw. Had I not been sitting on all these resources though there’s no way in hell I would make more than 1… if that.

boost karma rewards from pre-world boss events by 5×... or the monetary reward by 5×... I’m not running way the hell out of my way to the centaurs so i can make 2s then spend 1.5s mapping back so i don’t end up missing SB alltogether… nor am I gonna run over there for 150 karma or whatever bogus karma reward it is…
This all comes back to what people consider a grind… Honestly all the stuff for ascended things can be gotten easily without grinding by doing normal stuff. I’m sitting on enough mats to make at least 8 ascended weapons today without even having tried to farm the stuff all the while only playing maybe an 1-3 hours a day and half of that is just idle chit chat (you can ask anyone in my guild, I’m about the laziest kittener there is out there, I don’t farm much if any at all, I don’t do WvW, I have never set foot in a dungeon in over a year now). I would hardly call that a grind since it fits in basic gameplay and doesn’t take an excessive amount of effort or even doing the exact same thing over and over again… They said they were going to make it grind free… and it basically is if you don’t sit there drooling over the stuff every day and just work slowly toward it as you play the game. The problem is people turn things into a grind because they have a hard time waiting a couple extra days… that’s why I personally believe they put the time gating stuff in so people wouldn’t have to grind and they can work at a normal pace towards the reward… Just because you have to go out there and do a bit of farming or a few world bosses/jumping puzzles doesn’t make it a grind… you make it a grind by forcing yourself to work way harder and faster at acquiring things than they had meant for you to.
as for items i remember the deluxe edition being on sale and there was a sale on black lion keys (i just remember cause i bought a kitten ton of them at the time) and i think there were some more little sales on stuff but nothing like super memorable.
Are you on a low pop pve server? cause you have to cap all the supply camps in order for it to actually spawn the event.
Long answer… look directly above… short answer.. absolutely nothing in this game is alt friendly so no.
Don’t know how you guys can say making 80-100 gold is easy, but I seriously want to say you are part of the problem.
Because gold is ungodly easy to come across in this game if you don’t kitten it away on little stuff.
Black friday is next week. Its the day after thanksgiving.. and they had a few days of black friday sales last year so probably again yes.
ok…
This is not the first thread concerning the have’s and the have not’s. I am absolutely sure it won’t be the last.
For purposes of this post, the term “casual” will be meant to group those with small amounts of time together, and not to mean that the group has no skills. I have seen many extremely skilled “casuals.”
Personally, I think everyone who has ever played the “old style” MMOs should take off their rose-colored glasses and remember the relentless grind for even minor upgrades. “casual players” didn’t exist much then, because at the time, all “casual” meant was that they didn’t have the time to do the grind, or do the raid that took 6 hours (or more) to get mediocre rewards that barely got them to the next level.
Some games gave you decent rewards, but in order to use them you had to be level (insert insane number here.) I remember one in particular that had 150 levels, but the “quests” that would level you ran out at level 65. Every level after that was a grind.
And for those of you who remember EQ1, once you left the “beginner” zone, it was go to A and kill B until you reach level C and then go to D, rinse and repeat.
As MMOs evolved, more rewards were given and less grind, but still there is grind in almost every game on the market.
So-called “casuals” cannot compete in any of them.
The biggest difference in THIS game is that people who do not have hours upon hours to play every day can still get decent gear and be competitive. One doesn’t absolutely NEED Ascended gear, or Legendary Weapons in order to play the game at level 80.
The grind is reserved for those who want that extra bit of style, or that extra 10% advantage in WvW. If you’re not willing to work (grind or buy) for it (even if it takes months) then you don’t deserve it. Period.
I refuse to “grind.” I play maybe an hour a day, with a bit more on the weekends. I can count on one hand the times I’ve run a dungeon, and I have never set foot in Fractals. I have full exotics on all my 80’s and I have a few nice things I have paid for. I love WvW, and I am one of the few forum denizens that seem to like the LS. I will be the first to say I am relatively casual (it took me 6 months to get my first level 80,) and I will also be the first to say that I don’t deserve an Ascended or Legendary because I am not willing to put in the time or effort it takes to get one.
One thing I won’t do is come to the forums and complain that player X has more shineys than I do because he has more time to play than I do. I can get those shineys too, but it will take me longer.
So what?
Couldn’t have said it better myself.. I have a fair amount of time to play and have some nice stuff (half a dozen mist weapons, foefires essence, a couple blc items) and while I realize that is indeed within my grasp, I also notice that there are people with a half a dozen legendaries as well which is indeed out of my grasp. It doesn’t mean they’re too hard to get or take too much time, it means that I just don’t have the time or effort required to invest in the game to get that… simple as that… they shouldn’t dumb down rewards for people just because they have less time to play than others, just like they shouldn’t pay employees more to compensate them for spending less time in the office than someone else or putting forth less work than someone else.
Nice Weapon skins that aren’t RNG……. who are you and what have you done with Arenanet.
But in all seriousness, thanks! Who wouldve thunk it.
fixed that for you in the quote to adjust for the people talking about wintersday weapons and rox/braham, etc…
2.How could they make it in a way without you feel like getting scammed , but still make a decent profit?
Don’t stiff you so hard with the drop rates of the desirable things… There’s no reason for them to limit drops so extremely that the skins reach 150-350g for a blc skin. It benefits them little to none at all because most people aren’t going to keep buying and buying and buying and buying to get the 1 skin… they’ll give up after the first couple shots (we’ll say 50 keys) and for the most part give up on trying to buy rng things each time they come out…
Now if they were to reward you with a ticket (not just scraps) 5-10% of the time… they would have a ton of people buying keys EVERY time they introduce new things rather than have a large portion of them be so bitter to the point they don’t bother spending their money on it anymore. So by increasing the drop rate they can then expand to a wider audience of people spending their real money as opposed to trying to focus on a smaller group of bigger purchases. And because they would be expanding their audience that leaves a lot of small chunks of gems left over after they get what they really want that (say 300 gems) that end up saying “oh hey, just buy some more to cap me off at XXXX amount of gems so I can get the next thing” which in theory should cause them to spend more on the game for the gems to get them to the next item they desire because they feel that they have a legitimate chance of obtaining them at that point…. if any of that makes sense…
it’s not that hard to get them… I leave 4x level 24’s camped in urumag’s in LA to pop on every day and harvest them shiny silver devils.. I get like 3-4 a week… yes drop rate is incredibly low… but they’re EXTREMELY easy to obtain… just takes time.
I do enjoy the prospect of having the new skills and expanding my role based on situation but I’m pretty sure since Anet wanted to do away with the trinity that something like this wont be coming any time soon.
Absolutely agree, I would much rather kitten around with heroes than to have to drag a bunch of other people down there and leave them hanging every time I have go do something else since I generally am not able to stick around for extended periods of time (no garuntee for longer than 10-15 mins) as I play when I have time and can easily have to be torn away to do something. It would be a nice solution for someone like me who has these constraints, has been playing since September ’12 and have still yet been able to do any dungeons and really enjoyed the freedom heroes gave me to do things in GW1.
I’m glad I’m at work and not at home right now or I probably would have bought this costume for my charr… that head is just ridiculous! haha
Surprised no one has asked but what was the cost for that? Like… ballpark..
The simple solution would be not to go afk.
Simple solution then is still the simple solution now.. if you’re gonna be gone longer than 30 mins just get off guild wars and get back on when you’re less distracted by RL stuffs (does not apply of course to the person who said they wrrent away above
)
One can only assume the stuff won’t be back for wintersday… that being said its going to take another 5 years for year one wintersday stuff to be worth anything considering how high the drop rates were and how lackluster the skins were.
We just had it spawn right on top of the big candy corn in the NW three times in a row…
Probably just a matter of them having ascended everything else already so… armor time… I’m just glad I’m not one of those who feel the need to make sure every alt is maxed out in every way statistically, just my main, or this would probably bother me more. Now the extremely small chance at a silver lining.. maybe they’ll let us craft ascended breathers.
I’m all for keeping soulbinding to lower level gear and to UNCRAFTED exotics. IMO though the “lessendaries” should be movable and ascended/legendary items as well, but I feel I may be in the minority about that. (while I do realize I could transmute most of the items I wish to un-soulbind, it’s a waste of transmutation stones) I mainly say this as a person who made a foefire’s essence almost a year ago and would like to move it elsewhere in favor of a legendary or ascended gs… and while I realize this wont happen for various reasons, it would be nice for those stuck in my situation, I can keep dreaming though I suppose :P
