Some people don’t buy anything on the cash shop. Obviously these people are pretty happy to “only” pay 50$ now.
For veterans like me who have actually supported the game by buying hundreds of dollars worth of gems during those last 3 years (so basically the people Anet should be trying to keep), it is pretty disheartening to see how they just seem to not care about us.
a 350+ development staff has kept the game updated with new features and content completely for free for 3 years. You don’t see the disconnect in what you are saying?
That wasn’t for free. All of that was covered by the initial purchase. That was the deal they themselves put on the table. It has no bearing at all on future purchases like expansions. Those must be able to stand on their own. That’s a consequence of how they decided to run their business, and there is no ground at all to fault people for rationally looking at the expansion purchase instead of emotionally.
If they want more money out of me, they need to offer me something that looks like it’s worth the price of admittance. So far, I’m not convinced. I don’t care about most of what’s been revealed so far. I’m holding off final judgement until I see a final run-down of what’s on offer.
Everything I partook of during my time in the game so far, I paid for 3 years ago. That was the deal then, and it was a good deal.
I don’t care what other people receive with their purchase, I only care what I’m getting out of it. I’m not convinced yet that the expansion will be a good deal for me. For a variety of reasons, I hardly play anymore, and an expansion that doesn’t look good to me will not win me back, quite the opposite actually.
Despite the fact they’ve been playing the core game for up to 3 years.
Paid for 3 years ago, not a part of the current equation at all.
It’s perfectly rational to consider a new purchase on its own merits.
I’m going to need to see a decent amount of new PvE territory before I decide to buy. Specializations, new class, masteries… none of that will be worth anything to me if there won’t be plenty of new places to play with them. I’ve done nothing other than 10-15 minute logins over the last 3-4 months, because there’s nothing in the game I want to repeat once more. New features and QoL improvements aren’t going to change that. I need a substantial new environment or everything else in the expansion will be pointless for me.
I think the events in HoT cover that doing a set jp for that day. The old daily jp was ppl getting port to the super easy ones and that it more of an easy free out and not realy content.
Yes, the daily vista viewer that was added when puzzle jumper was removed is so much better.
I feel sorry for people buying deluxe. The 4000 gems is half the cost of the ultimate edition. Either buy standard or edition.
What if you have no use for 4000 gems but just can’t go on living without a mini Rytlock in silly clothes?
You go into a Department Store and buy a shirt and pants for $50 and are quite happy. Three years later that same shirt and pants are on sale and as an extra incentive the store throws in a pair of shoes for free.
Now how likely is it that if you went back to this store, showed them your receipt from three years ago that they would give you a pair of shoes for free?
Not gonna happen and you know this but many people cry, pout and stomp their feet anyway.
If you want the shoes and bought another pair of pants and a shirt to get them, you’d end up with 2 shirts, 2 pairs of pants and a pair of shoes. That’s great value for money!
How does this have anything to do with the HoT situation?
For me, how I value the expansion will largely depend upon the amount of playable PvE content it’s going to add. All the QoL stuff, the new class, the updates to existing classes, all of that will be largely useless to me if I don’t get a lot of actual new gameplay situations to experience them in.
So no, I’m not pre-purchasing, because I’m not convinced I’ll be getting value for money.

The timing of this pre-purchase is pretty questionable. No release date and no final accounting of the expansion’s contents, that’s not what I consider a solid base from where to ask me to cough up money, regardless of the exact amount.
The announced packages don’t strike me as particularly attractive. No character slot on the standard edition, a deluxe edition that doesn’t seem to add much in the way of value and an ultimate edition that adds some cheap gems. The latter seems a good deal if you want gems (I don’t).
Presently, my interest in the game is at an all-time low. I’m 10-15 minutes a day (and not even every day) away from not playing at all anymore. This pre-purchase announcement does nothing to pique my interest. The only thing that can do that at the moment is an announcement stating exactly what’s in the expansion.

I’ve been getting less and less enamored with the game for months now, only logging in for the dailies and lately, not every day. Stepping away from it would be the easiest thing right now. I’m definitely not going to pre-purchase, whereas I pre-purchased digital deluxe on the strength of my faith in ANet, built up over the years of GW1. In retrospect, digital deluxe was a terrible deal, the extras rather disappointing. The current pricing scheme seems even worse.
I will need to see exactly what’s going to be in the expansion before I decide to buy, and if I don’t think it’ll keep me slipping back into my current apathy for more than a few months, it’ll be a no-sale, regardless of the price.

I don’t care about the free base game being included. I do resent that they’re not including a new character slot with the $50 version to go with the new class they’re adding.
Start farming gold to buy yourself a FREE character slot
Omg so hard Ikr?
I have enough gold to buy my character slots up to the limit. It’s about the principle. It makes the purchase look unattractive.

There are several topics about this error, 1 very long one among them where new threads used to get merged into.
For well over a year now, I regularly have annoying bouts of this exact error. I also have an otherwise perfect internet connection when that happens. Sometimes the error happens out of the blue, with no warning in the form of lag.
At other times, the error hits after very long periods of complete non-response from the game. I can run around and eventually hit an “edge at the end of the world”. Everything else is frozen and of course skills don’t work. When this happens, my location in the guild roster will turn into “Unknown”. I can still chat on all channels, I can still use the TP, I can still join and leave parties and operate guild and friend list fuctions. It can take up to 2 minutes before I finally get booted back to the character selection screen.
Apparently I don’t just have a perfect internet connection, all of ANet’s systems that run on separate servers are also working fine while this error occurs. It’s always just the game server itself that seems to lose track of me. (Location “Unknown” in the guild roster, as I mentioned before.)
You must live under a rock, go check YouTube if you don’t believe me that some April Fool’s Day jokes last 24 hours, or do a Google search, it’s not unheard of.
April Fool’s is about pulling pranks on people. Jokes are over the exact moment people realize they’ve been pranked, and then they get on with their day. It may take some people the better part of a day to realize they’re being pranked, and that’s fine, well done prankster.
This though was nothing like that. No one was fooled, pranked or misled in an amusing fashion. It was funny for a few minutes, but the rest of the 24 hours it was an annoyance that drove me away from the game for the day.
They pulled some good ones in GW the first. I fondly remember the transgender day. I did a doubletake when I logged in for the first time and had a great time logging on all my characters and grinning at how they looked gender-reversed. Also, it didn’t interfere with play at all. It only worked in cities, not while adventuring.
I logged on and did my dailies in about 10 minutes. Halfway, the joke had gotten old. I didn’t even bother cleaning out my character’s inventory when I was done, which I always do before logging off.
Not funny at all, annoying as hell. Oh well, I got to spend some more time on other things.
I do hate that every ascended weapon I ever crafted is colored red. Crafting duplicates with unwanted stats just to unlock a different color, that feels unreasonable to me and I haven’t done it yet. Probably never will.
Dungeons? That has something to do with the closed wooden door icons on the world map, right?
The only ones I’ve done since they were removed from the daily rotation, is the big one in the Silverwastes and some here and there to earn my personal wintersday tree.
Defence events should just be made to get progressively more difficult after every successful defence, so as to keep the rotation of events more varied.
My problem with the skins is that generally, the more prestigious a skin is supposed to be, the more it is likely to be horribly exaggerated, grotesque and overdone.
With a daily achievement for setting them off, it would be grand if they could reset at the daily reset time.
The dragon ball game is dreadfully dull and unrewarding. The 2 games I played were completely unbalanced, being far behind when I joined with hardly any players on my side and no chance to win at all. Seeing that I needed no more than 2 completed matches to qualify for the festival daily, I’ll leave it at 2 for today.
Maybe I’ll play 2 on some other days, if I can be bothered, and if I happen to win 10 before the festival is over, well, I can’t even muster the tiniest bit of enthusiasm over the prospect.
It’s a “Lost” Bandit Chest, would you expect to find something that was lost in the same place each time you look? Same reason it requires a key, just think of it as a LBC from SW that ended up in your home instance, and remember, there are multiple locations of the LBC’s in SW as well.
It’s not a lost bandit chest.
… how often do you guys check your magic find?
^ Does it really change often enough, or really even matter enough that you need to check it regularly?
I mean, I check mine every few days when I upconvert and eat luck, but that’s maybe once or twice a week. A lot less often than I’d want to see where I’m at with my daily rewards.
I don’t check anything that’s now pushed to the bottom all that often, but when I do want to check something, why first make me look at something I already saw when I logged in and what I’ll see again tomorrow? Even if I’d only feel the need to check the old info once a month, that’s still a lot more often than I’ve ever felt the need to look at that useless calendar.

Dhuum, for a finisher.
I’m glad there won’t be ugly bird people running around squawking boon-appliance lines.
Weird guess:
It’s a paid for alternate version of the currently existing zones progressed in time a little, to a moment when Mordremoth has covered almost everything in vines and seems to be winning. Characters get a time-travel device to switch from classic GW2 to the new thorny version that has tons of completely new content.
Hoping for: a fix to the frequent 7:11 error disconnects that have been plaguing me for many months now, or at least a decent reconnect option.

I’d probably be a more active player in the ’wastes if I could stay connected long enough to make it worthwhile.
As it is, I just try to taxi/afk myself toward a vinewrath event while the greater part of my attention is outside of the game. I have to start over from scratch every time the dreaded error 7:100:some:more:numbers hits me, which is quite often.
Trying to get back into the instance I disconnected from is usually a pointless enterprise, even if I’m in a party, because slots in good instances are instantly filled due to all the taxiing going on.
So I just stand there on some rock formation, hoping for the best. On a good day, I can do vinewrath.
Edit: And mere minutes after posting the above, I got my error 7:11 while fighting the platinum thrasher, logging back in on a post-vinewrath instance with 7 minutes on the clock until the next foothold event. Back to my perch!

I agree a description of “account bound, soul bound on use” would be appropriate. However this is how all endless tonics work to my knowledge of they are able to be sold on the TP. Although if it acquired through an event they usually stay account bound.
The endless quaggan tonics from the LS1 LA events don’t bind at all. A few weeks ago I assumed this would be the case with an endless drop I got in the Silverwastes as well, because there was no binding clause in the item description. Very misleading.
Crafting is a PvE activity. I’m not sure how you think it’s not. Mystic forge the same thing.
I can’t believe anyone would think it’s PvE. There’s no ‘versus’ involved in it at all. The crafting station offers neither challenge nor resistance. It’s as much ‘PvE’ as moving an item from one inventory slot to another is PvE. Why do you think crafting is PvE? Because it’s not one of the other game modes?
“There’s no versus in crafting and mystic forge”? That’s the best argument you can come up with? Wow man, you either need to step up your game, or just take a break from partaking in the discussion because that is just hilarious. xD
Next thing coming up:
Gathering is THE PvE thing because the gathering nodes “provide resistance against your tools”. snicker roflmaoWhat about Vistas? You don’t have any particular resistance on your F-key going on, so Vistas aren’t PvE!
… you made my day. xD
Well, you’re not offering anything at all apart from appeal to ridicule, so I’m still miles ahead of you.
Why aren’t you offering anything? Why not make a case why it is PvE? Of course you don’t, because you can’t. You rather get into someone’s face being a kitten, and you’re not even good at that with your childish emoticons. You really need to step up your “being a worthless kitten” game, because the way you’re doing it is just hilarious.
Oh, and if my humble post made your day, your day must’ve been terrible. What happened?

As for activities, you don’t even have to do them you just have to enter them. You can enter them, stand there and get credit.
So they’re definitely not PvE then? How do you call a game mode where you just have to provide occasional input to keep from being kicked? Player vs. Clock?
Of all the complaints I’ve seen, this one has the least traction.
It wasn’t a complaint, it was an observation. Why so defensive?
Yes, that’s how it works.
That’s hardly qualifies as “essentially anything” though.
So do half the other achievements which aren’t daily. The other half were “hooray, you played the game, have some AP”.
Of those two halves, many veterans will have finished the vast majority of the “hooray!” achievements and many of the more specific ones that make up the other half. That will generally leave only the specific ones that are definitely not completed by doing “essentially anything”.
Speaking for myself, I only gain AP from periodic achievements (dailies, festivals) and new content. And I tend to gain all AP from new content well before the next batch of new content. Gains from anything else are exceedingly rare for me.
That’s hardly qualifies as “essentially anything” though.
Now to get laurels plus AP you have to log in and can do essentially anything in game. The options are greater now than before though the AP gain rate might be slower.
How do you imagine 2 year veterans would get AP from doing essentially anything in the game?
Let me ask you a question: do you think it’s generally a good idea to alienate sizeable groups of players?
Changes will not always be welcomed by 100% of the population. This doesn’t mean that the changes are wrong.
I know I’ve accused you of not posting pertinent things a little earlier, but that takes the cake.
Balance changes alienate players who lost their builds. New recipes that increase prices alienate players. Those must be wrong.
You’re not getting anywhere with this line of forcing the point you want to make. You’re probably better off letting it alone, since now it’s looking painful.
No. There are a lot of changes that have been made that could be considered alienating players. Some players set themselves up for this by limiting themselves to only PvE when this game also has WvW and PvP. Some people go further and strike out dungeons and fractals as well. They then get upset when change to a game-wide system impacts them in a way they didn’t like which would not have occurred had they not limited themselves in such a way. We haven’t had a PvE daily and PvP daily for over quite some time as the individual achievements have been lumped together under a daily system that stretched across the entire game.
People don’t set themselves up to do anything. They just play a game in such a way as to offer them entertainment.
The people haven’t changed, the game has. People’s preferences should be well-known to ANet, because they’re reflected in their behaviour and their behaviour can be measured. Making a way of playing that’s preferred by a sizeable group of people less attractive will alienate those people. That’s not rocket science, and it can’t be blamed on the players, because they have been a constant for a long time. Blaming the players in this situation is like blaming a tree when you run your car into it. How smart is it to alienate existing players when apparently the game has a problem with retaining new players?
Let me ask you a question: do you think it’s generally a good idea to alienate sizeable groups of players?

Yeah, sure.
But do do you think it’s generally a good idea to alienate sizeable groups of players? That was my question. Generally. You quoted it. Not specifically. Not pertaining to the new dailies. Generally.
Most of the people who keep pointing out there are TWELVE and there were TWELVE are missing the point entirely of the people who are unhappy with the change to dailies. It’s the specificity of the requirements, not the number of them, that is an issue. Going from choose any five of: kill 50 things (anywhere – PvE, PvP, WvW); gather 20 things (anywhere – PvE, WvW), salvage 10 things (anywhere – PvE, PvP, WvW), complete 5 events (anywhere – PvE, PvP(?), WvW), etc, etc, etc, to very, very specific subsets of said generic dailies (now, only harvest logs in THIS MAP) means that instead of playing in your preferred mode, you must go to X spot. So, while I could have done all of my dailies before while playing what I want, in the game mode I choose, I cannot do that now. I don’t see why this easy concept is so difficult for people to understand. We had choice and that choice is taken away.
This makes the new dailies seem way more like a chore to MANY. Maybe not YOU and YOU, but MANY. Just because the change makes you happy, does not mean that other peoples’ feelings of frustration or lack of enthusiasm are invalid.
Really, don’t bother. They’re not missing the point. They’re obviously being disingenuous. It’s been explained so many times before, they get it.
Let me ask you a question: do you think it’s generally a good idea to alienate sizeable groups of players?

they would have been worse off if they put crafting in WvW achievements.
Why?
It has even less to do with WvW than it does with PvE. plus i think they (the developers) consider crafting to be a PvE activity.
It has absolutely zero to do with PvE. The ‘v’ is for ‘versus’ and there’s no ‘versus’ in crafting. It can’t have anything less to do with WvW because you can’t get any less than zero.
The crafting/mystic forge is MUCH quicker than fractals and can be done anytime, unlike world bosses. crafting can be completed with using artificer to refine luck. if you salvage 3 or 4 ectos you will generally get enough to make an exotic luck essence (plus you get 3 ectos for completing it). Mystic forge can be done fairly easily as well. Buy 4 minor runes from the TP and throw them in the forge.
I know how they work. They would be just as easy to do in WvW or PvP and would still leave 4 other PvE achievements to chose from for that day.
I could see activities moving to PvP, but all the PvP rewards add to reward track progress. the activity daily wouldnt make any since with this reward IMO.
How about they don’t give that reward then for that daily?
And for a completely unrelated point: Why the dishonesty in their labelling? Daily crafter? Not a PvE achievement. Daily Mystic Forger? Not a PvE achievement. Daily Activity Participation? Not a PvE achievement. Why are those 3 in that category?
where else would they put these? They arent WvW or PvP. You dont find an activity person in either. Crafting/mystic forge doesnt benefit WvW and are not present in HOTM.
as an aside, all of those are fairly easy to do (activity will take the longest though)
They could’ve put the mystic forge one in the PvP category and the crafting one in the WvW category. There’s a forge in the PvP lobby and there are crafting stations in WvW.
Doing that would’ve left some room in the PvE category for some actual PvE achievements. Maybe even some interesting ones.
Edit: did they actually remove the forge from the PvP lobby? Make the activity PvP then. They use PvP instancing anyway, so that’s a good fit.
Would you have preferred that I used dungeons or fractals instead? It doesn’t really matter since it’s a limited aspect within a game. It’s likely that you’re blinded by the fact that you play PvE only and cannot see that there are other areas which encompass the entire game.
None of that has anything to do with the fact that a sizeable group of people are dissatisfied. They don’t have to rationalise their feelings, airing them is enough.
Let me ask you a question: do you think it’s generally a good idea to alienate sizeable groups of players?
Not really. There are PvE players who are upset that they don’t have choices to passively complete the daily and who refuse to do other achievement from the other areas of the game. We had 12 achievements before the update and we have 12 achievements after the update.
Yet something changed, and some people don’t like that change. The game was better for them before the change. They’re giving feedback on how they feel about the change.
Your rubbish jumping puzzle remark has no bearing on anything. None whatsoever. It’s not feedback, and it doesn’t address anything that people are upset about. It’s pointless hyperbole, and not particularly clever.
It points out that I’m purposely limiting myself by choosing to only play a certain aspect of the game, rather than the entire game, and then blame Anet for not providing me choices to complete the daily based on how that I want to play.
Well, I guess you missed the point of this discussion then.
You do realize that nonsensical exaggerations don’t contribute to discussions but instead just shine a certain light on those who flaunt them, right?
You posted multiple times and said that you didn’t understand why people didn’t agree with you. That is (at least as far as I understand it) more or less saying that people that don’t agree with you are wrong.
No, that’s not it at all. Where do you get this stuff?
All it is, is admitting to a lack of understanding.
So, it is not a good idea because you for some arbitrary reason refuse to play the whole game?
Exactly. It’s a terrible idea, for that reason. ANet knows full well the playing habits of their players. Alienating a sizeable chunk of them is not a good idea.
Should they really develop the game around people that refuses to do something that is not a specific part of the game?
Well, that’s how they did develop it, mostly.
What about people that only want to do Fractals? Should they develop around those as well? Or people that only want to WvW? Or PvP for that matter?
Nonsense examples. They don’t need to develop ‘around’ anyone, they just should have left the existing separation between game modes that people had been used to well enough alone.
And for a completely unrelated point: Why the dishonesty in their labelling? Daily crafter? Not a PvE achievement. Daily Mystic Forger? Not a PvE achievement. Daily Activity Participation? Not a PvE achievement. Why are those 3 in that category?
