(So much vitality is useless for me, even on WvW, only ~15k is enough – use heavy cond cleaner)
In my opinion you should go first 1/2 Knight 1/2 zerker, tanky traits (something like 0/x/30/30/x). When you familiarize with average survivability you should go full zerker, with tanky traits. Then, finally change to full DPS/support traits (something like 10/30/x/x/x[sword spec] or 15/25/x/x/x[hammer spec] and so on). (We only have support/tank utilities)
I suggest this cause guards aren’t so tanky and DPS like Warriors can be, even with heavy DPS role they have a good survability.
Also if you don’t fit a DPS role, the 1/2 Knight 1/2 zerker is really good for both DPS and survability.

Fun fact, MF caps at 300%. Making the infusion useless at that point. Go with gold find.
Yeah! it might be worthless after a few more days…
Tell you what, if you still can’t decide, just get a 126 +5 pwr amulet and kill faster. More kills = more drops & gold.
Isn’t it only the magic find from magic bar (Essences of Luck) that is capped at 300%? Even if all of your MF is capped at 300% will take months if not years to get 300% MF.
More important: content or balance/fixes?
The answer is idiot of so obvious. And with every new content, we get even more bugs…
I really hope that ANET stops releasing new content for 1 month at least only to fix those several bugs that the game has…
Don’t worry guys. ANET will just ignore this post and nothing will happen.
/sarcasm off
In my opinion: Only reduce the base attack to exotics. More status and infusions already do some difference, without making a huge hole between exotics and ascended.
@edit
Also, when they release the ascended armor, they should only increase the status a little bit and one slot per armor, without increasing the base toughtness from the armors.

With the todays patch the Fire Elemental becomes bugged. The Fire Ele is shown during the 5 min cooldown but isn’t active (only his animation). When you finish protecting the Golem it just not starts.

This rune is useless. WHY THE HELL condition dmg + crit dmg???
I dunno in PvE, but in WvW and PvP that change to “Focused Mind” (if was a typo) will be very useful for meditation builds, if 5~10 sec of duration at least.

Spirit Weapons:

Symbol of Faith (#2) should have its cast time reduced to 1s, down from 1 1/4
Protector’s Strike (#3) should be a blast finisher if activated and its “protection if not struck” should be available as an option during the cast.Traits:

To the new players: “Welcome to the Grinding Wars 2”.
PS: This forum is bugged and I cannot edit my post.
Stop complaining as if this is the end of the game doom-all end-all bring forth the cataclysm wtfgtfo ihatethisgameiquit rage posts.
Think about it. Guild Wars 2 as a compeltely new game.
If they didn’t have ascended gear, or even legendaries for that matter. EVERYone even casual players. Would complain about the lack of end game gearing. You just get a basic crafted exotic and thats it? Nothing more to it?
Luckily, they released the game with Legendaries, which gives the players a big, long term, difficult goal to work towards.
If Guild Wars 2 released with the Ascended tier in place, there wouldn’t be anyone complaining about it.
It is an end-game gearing step up that you can work for. It doesn’t take that long. It isn’t that hard.
It seriously makes sense that you have all slots with just your run-of-the-mill ascended items as a casual to moderate player. Exotics just simply don’t cut it for that ’I’ve reached the last tier’ feeling.
Guild Wars 2 needs ascended gear. While yes, it DID go against their ‘Manifesto’ or whatever about adding a gear treadmill, but don’t blow it out of proportion.
This gear is no harder to obtain than a Legendary, it’s not completely necessary to obtain them, and it really does standardize their offerings for end game gear.
Why would you have ascended backpieces or jewellery, but not any other slot?
So, stop complaining so much. The tier makes a lot of sense from a game design perspective. It doesn’t go against their manifesto too much. If it was in the game from the beginning most of you wouldn’t have thought 2 seconds about it.
Instead of complaining about how Ascended is bad, try thinking of ways where they could make horizontal progression if you don’t want them to continue adding tiers beyond this.
They explicitly said they wouldn’t add tiers above this – this is really just completing the game tbh. So what about horizontal options? How would you do it?
Turn your unconstructive and completely misguided complaints about Ascended gear into a positive direction for GW2. Tell the devs what you want out of end game instead of throwing a bubble fit about an item tier that makes lots of sense for Guild Wars 2 as a game.
I never complained about the lack of end gear and would until the ascended weapons were released. On that moment I complained about the existence of it. I don’t like time gating and griding only to keep even with other players. Evn that time gating wouldn’t hurts me, it really hurts new players, that why I’m aganist it. And grinding really hurts casual players.
When I begin to play the game (around 3 months after I bought, I guess) I begin my goal to exotics, and I didn’t care at all about cosmetics. When I finally begin to get my exotics I begin to think “That skin looks so nice, I want one for me”, and then my objectives changed to skins and exotics. And since then, I was glad that the game was only about cosmetics, even with ascended trinkets (that doesn’t make so much difference at all, compared to the weapons that can really make a difference becouse of its base atk), I could try different possibilities, differents builds, different chars (with multiple equipaments), and only enjoy the game. I do like to be easy to get things, so I can play the game instead of grind to get it.
Since the addition of ascended (they should be only 10/5/5 more status, without the increase in base attack) I begin to really desmotivate to keep playing this game, and so I’ll leave it most likely soon (this isn’t a intimidation, I can leave or not). This isn’t a complain, becouse it can really be better to the game, if the most players really want this, this should be done and they must do what is better to game.
But, yes I been fooled. I been fooled becouse they promised one type of game and delivered another, completely different. Maybe not only I been fooled, but even themselves, that traced an ideology and went to the oposite direction. Or even they didn’t know and don’t know what they want to their game. Maybe they tried to hug the world to get the most players possible, who knows?
I really liked the game and I want the best for it, so I can’t say what is best for me, becouse they must do what is best to the player base. Becouse I finally realised that I don’t belong to that player base more – as shown on their manifesto, advertisements and even critics, I should be – but I’m not any more.
And who is complaining should do the same. We (the complainers) do not belong to this game any more, let who belongs, enjoy it. Go play another game, and who knows, someday a game with gw2 original ideas may born, since the ANET already showed the path for it and shown that is possible, even if they didn’t followed this path.
Sorry guys, I’m lost. Or I’m not understanding what you want to say or you aren’t understanding me. I tried to say that for a really good dps with sustain you can go FULL ZERKER (weapons, armor and trinkets) and reliable with AH/Staff when you are out of heal options (also, symbols helps to keep up).
For what I know AH (Altruistic Healing) only heals the guardian.
You really don’t need AH. If you really want to retain support, run Pure of Voice.
AH isn’t for support, AH is for sustain.
You’re giving up too much imo for just a tiny bit more boon duration. The standard 0/0/20/30/20 is much better imo. And celestial gear? Why? Your damage isn’t going to be much better (if at all) than cleric’s, with far less heal power.
I’m using Celestial to get more DPS and mainly precision to trigger both Vigorous Precision and EM. And considering that Celestial brings full crit dmg (equivalent to Zerker or Assassin – 2% more!) presion really helps.
Also that a look in the 2nd link (now fixed).
But I also felt a loss of dps with the winter jewels, compared to quartz ones that I have.
The difference between your DPS and using a Cleric’s/Magi split to keep power the same is 11% (assuming you’ve got permanent fury, it’s less otherwise). That might sound significant, but it’s an 11% increase to crap damage. When you’re doing 1/3 the damage of someone geared and traited for DPS, that 11% is fairly negligible. For that gain you give up a little over 200 heal power though you do gain about 70 vitality. Your crit rate is just 4% higher.
It should be noted that you’re also giving up a lot by using exotic trinkets instead of ascended just so you can gain 5% boon duration.
Hi!
This build is more for fun, I don’t usually (in fact, never) go 0/0/x/x/30. And with the winter jewels you lose a lot of DPS and even support.
I have none Ascended trinkets and little to no interest to acquire them (I only have my old Golden Lotus that now is zerker).
But you can swap the Magis for Clerics without losing too much crit chance.
Thanks for suggestions!
They should fix the Spirit Weapons (mainly durability and the Bow) and buff the Shield in some way, like put the Honorable Shield Trait into the Adept Line, reduce the cooldown or add 5s weakness for #4 and increase the duration of the #5 to 5s or 6s (but I prefer the 1st suggestion, becouse that would be a really minor buff).
And fix the kitten healing power to scales better!
You can go (for AH) 0/0/30/30/10, 15/0/30/20/5 or 0/15/30/20/5, full zerker GS (or something else) / Staff. This works fine to me, I rarely get downed and I have an insane DPS.
I used GS / Scepter+Torch for a lot of time, thenI changed to GS / Staff for more durability and support in PvE.
For WvW usually I go Mace+Shield / Staff for support. For a tanky dps I go Scepter+Shield / Staff. (Both in zerg fights, I don’t do roaming)
Hammer because i just got my genesis hammer!
I’m jealous I want that too
Hi guys.
Fixed the 2nd link (both links were the same).
PS: Take note that boon duration is capped at 100%, so the warrior banner and the vengeful trait are useless.
Does the trait ’’Vengeful’’(trait II of Virtues) stack with boon duration? And if yes, does it stack even if you have 100% boon duration?
The vengeful trait does not work if you have 100% boon duration. But it will stack up to 100% boon duration, additively (you cannot have more than 100% retaliation duration).
You’re giving up too much imo for just a tiny bit more boon duration. The standard 0/0/20/30/20 is much better imo. And celestial gear? Why? Your damage isn’t going to be much better (if at all) than cleric’s, with far less heal power.

thats not 100% boon duration build, that is 40%+ magic find build!
hahah. There is no more MF on Celestial =P

From my topic (to bring together):
So, the spirit weapons… the last time I’ve tried they lost 1/2 of their health in a single blow and died in seconds… They’re useless and I’m going to point some suggestions to “fix” them.
- 1. Low durability – low health of low toughness?: I dunno why they die so easly, but they either need a health buff or toughness buff. This buff must happen with or without the other suggestions.
- 2. The Bow: It is just insignificant to use their “atk” becouse it’s heals nothing, only heals one per time and “atk” very, very slowly. And to make everything worse, their “atks” don’t scales with healing power at all. The only good is cond removal, but not worh. The command is worthless becouse they always dies before finishing its channeling, even if you summon and immediately commands them. To fix: Makes it’s atks AoE and able to scale with healing, also some improvements with it’s base heals would be necessary. Also, make the command scales with the healing power.
- 3. The Shield: They should be a anti-range mobile, but instead, when you go in combat, they keep stationary activationing their bubble. To be stationary I’ll go Wall of Reflection instead, at least, it don’t dies and reflects instead of absolve (Their uptime is almost the same, and I can control the wall better than the shield). They should always keep closer to the guardian.
- 4. The Sword: The command should make its go to the enemy before activating, instead, it activates where it is, even if theres no enemy nearby.
- 5. The Hammer: In my opinion the hammer is in the best spot compared to th other spirits (both normal and the command), but it still dies with 2 blows.
Aside that their health or toughness must be buffed, they must have its cooldown reduced, compared to other summons, ranger spirits and necromancer minions, our spirits cooldowns are just insane.
Is it a new dragon??? (4:18)
According to wiki, only scales with healing power (10%):
I still feel a Signet of Speed would be the way to go. If I want to sacrifice an ability for speed then that is a fair trade off.
Sacrificing so many other things that the runes on armor give you seems a bit unfair. We are already the hardest class to equip.
When they finally update this class, I hope they give us this option.
I replaced my thiefs signet with the rune. Utility Slot is worth WAY more then a rune set.
Yeah but thiefs have so many cool skills. Guardians are on such long CD I would rather have the passive.
Agreed.
do you know if this 25% movement is cumulative with traits/utilities movement increasers?
Nope. The highest take place.
Not sure if anyone has said it, but rune of speed #6 is not working (bugged) at the moment.
Is it really bugged? I was wandering so even without testing… At least I didn’t buy for the 6th rune. Maybe when they fix it, I buy.

I’m more excited about the doubloons giving boon duration now. Boon duration on upgrades! That’s neat.
6 × 4% from platinium doubloons = useless (24%). You can achieve 45% with water/monk/traveler runes.
I agree with the most posts, but in my opinion the problems are:
- The healing power scaling: you get 1500 of healing power to increease the overall healing of the skills by 23% of its base. The only exception is regeneration, that is 144%;
- The lack of mobility: We are mainly melee and we have too low ways to atk and also keep enemies in melee range (No crippe/too low, specific snares – no utility at all);
- The lack of Health: We have a 10k base Health pool. Unlike Eles and Thieves we don’t have good ways to flee from a battle (i.e. Teleporting, Invibility).
To fix that:
Make a 1500 Healing power scales to ~50% from its base and “nerf” the Regeneration to 100% and either improve the mobility, allowing us to flee from a battle or increase our base Health pool to 15k (or even both).
We already have very low DPS compared to other classes, even in full zerker. These changes won’t make us overpowered, but even.

Hi guys!
With the recent patch the 100% boon duration becomes more viable becouse of the new winter and the traveler runes. The new winter does has lost the MF and received toughness instead. And with the rune of the traveler you don’t need too much of winter’s. This build is really fun!
The build:
No griding/time gating version (less dps/more supportive):
You can go 0/0/20/20/30 as well for Mace of Justice. Maybe even 0/0/30/10/30 for altruistic healing, but you’ll lose healing power, HP and EM or Writ of Persistence.
With this build you’ll get perma boons (even perma protection without hammer!). Feel free to change utilities, traits and equip!
Any suggestions? Add up!
PS: Take note that boon duration is capped at 100%, so the warrior banner and the vengeful trait are useless.
(edited by Mikau.6920)
I’m concearned too about that. This was an insane nerf to karma. And I don’t use karma too often… (and I’m glad for that, becouse now I’m able to get what I need, differently from who doesn’t have karma right now)
Big slap in the face from Anet team. Thanks.
Big slap? This is a direct punch on my face. My nose still bleeds.
So, it isn’t a bug? This was just to fool us? Maybe they think we’re suckers, and the worst part is we may even be.
Do you’ll go full zerker or Knights? What weapons you gonna to use? If you use fast atk / multi hit weapons (GS, scepter, torch…), I guess that ~15% is enough, but if u go slow ones (mace, hammer), maybe at least 20%.
If you go full zerker/knights that crit chance already will be more than enough (~35%). There are a 1 sec internal cooldown to EM.
Magic Find Items:
Weapons, armor and trinkets with magic find will become account bound, lose their current stats and will gain the ability to be double-clicked to select one of several stat options depending on the item.

I cannot move my Explorer’s Armor from my Guardian to my Warrior becouse it’s still soulbound. Is it a bug?
Thanks.
Thank you very much. So it is not so small, can be worth to use to heal (symbolic heal – althrough is good traited to heal yourself) several allies.
Bumping just becouse this bug is over 1 year old and didn’t get fixed yet.
Now is just wait and see what will happen in the game… I hope this don’t obrigate us to get ascended weapons or at least isn’t insane to get as ascended trinkets… (heavy laurels, live in fractals or the guild thingy)
Sadly, I was building both my Warrior and my Necro (Guard is my main)…
We’ll call this game Word of Guild Wars? (Wait to see)
….well hate to break it to you it’s much worse.
according to the live stream it will take 2 weeks to get 1 ascended weapon a warrior and necro will likely need 3/4 so that’s two months PER acc.
lets point the finger at the upcoming hellish update ascended armor now
six pieces most likely similar process so another 2 weeks per piece that’s 3 months of grindin per acc.now lets add the inevitable future dungeons will become much eaiser since ascended weapons / armor will be roughly 20% (that is no typo) better since it has a higher weapon strength plus stats. now lets recall the starting dungeon ac designed for lvl 35s and how anet had to buff it.
now imagine if they do that with ascended in mind point being gw2 is poorly designed currently for a vertical progression in pve so guess what here comes the elitist and very possible buffs keep in mind part of this is sort of hypothetical but the numbers I supplied was quite real.
also keep in mind how serious wvw guilds are with armor and weapons I highly doubt ascended doesn’t show real improvement if you can get enough of them.
it’s major issue is because of the insane time requirement it kills alts out right 1 char = at least 5 months to bring them up to the top tier and unlike trinkets who have little influence other then a few measly points in power per say weapons weapon strength will greatly enhance it’s over all effectiveness.
the only place I think is safe from this update is spvp and thank god for that I guess.
this wouldn’t be a problem if the amror was sellable or easily accessed hell was exotic really that bad. because htats what it is at the end of the day all this work to break even or get a edge on opposing players god help you if you have a life.
I was pretty happy that I FINALLY was finishing all builds that I want in my guardian and finally could begin to build my alts. That just REALLY demotivate me… Now I need came back to my Guardian and take several months to build him to full again… (not counting on all builds, becouse that will take forever)
Extra bonus info: The highest chance of having a rare chance ascended weapon for you is on Tequatl’s daily bonus chest if you defeat him: game on.
If that chance is less than 5%, delete right now that “bonus info”. Stop making false ilusions… im tired of that…
5%? 5% is still too high. I bet this will be like 0.01% or so. In other words just a illusion, impossible. Only the “lucky” people will get them from the event.
Explorer’s recipes will be replaced with the Assassin’s stat combo (Precision, Power, Critical Damage)
Traveler’s drops will be replaced with the Dire Stat Combo (Condition Damage, Toughness, Vitality)
Pillagers recipes will be replaced with the Hunter’s stat combo (Precision, Power)
Source: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/economy-report-brace-yourself-disequilibrium-is-coming/
Yet, nothing about the wayfarer’s. I wanna know what will happen with the winter’s too (In my opinion, they should be equal to the giver’s armor).
I hope the wayfarer’s become Healing Power (main), Power and Precision.
You know what size the Merciful Intervation AoE is?
I am simply a player that likes to have BiS gear, and then enjoy the game…not having to worry about anything else other than my enjoyment. Thats how I wanted to approach this game. The time gated nature of this means that if I don’t take care of what I need to each day, Im behind the curve. I’ll feel obligated to log in each day to get my daily-crafted-junk done…like I initially felt with Laurels and dailys. I already feel obligated to get all LS achievements done for AP just to get to the next threshold for gold, account bonuses, and skins. I like being rewarded for the AP, but it also has a negative side too.
Im feeling a bit too obligated to do things in a game where it was touted that we could play how we want. For this reason, the game is beginning to cease to be fun for me, and more of a “hurry get it done before its gone” or a “hurry, get the BiS gear before the next guy does”. Just..not fun for me anymore, which sucks because I did like this game.
I feel exactly the same way. +1
+2. This is exactly how I feel. I won’t have fun any more, since I bought the game I feel more and more obliged to login. You login or you miss the living world, you login or you miss the daylies, you login or you miss your charged quartz… Now, you login you and farm like hell or you won’t have ONE ascended weapon every 2 weeks… How nice is that?
I wish I was a ele or engie main right now
Me too
Lindsey mentioned this in the video, but I thought I would as well. A lot of comments I saw worried about grind and what not and how it was going to take them a month or more for their asc weapon. But she explicitly said it would take two weeks to get a weapon.
I honestly don’t see why its such a big complaint at the ascended crafting if its only 2 weeks. Amulets can take a month!!! If you don’t obtain laurels through achievement chests.
How many chars and weapons with each one you have? How many builds do you have? Do the math. If this isn’t grind, I do not know what is it.
Also, ascended trinkets weren’t a must have. (now they’ll become a lot more powerful with ascended weapons).
(edited by Mikau.6920)
I just saw the livestream, and I’m sad that most likely will say good bye gw2. I’m not really fan of grind and even less of time gating. I was just begining to build up my alternative chars, but I cannot becouse I’ll have to build even (a lot more) my main. For only a single build (considering several weapons, I’m sorry for warriors) will take the eternity… Were really fun during this time and I was believing that this game were the best game ever made, but I’m wrong. I’ll wait a little more to see, but most likely I’ll leave the game.
Welcome to the World of Guild Wars 2!
I want to see just how bad the economic damage from this is, but I expect it to be just as bad, or worse, than I’m thinking. This new tier is relying way too heavily on T6 materials, and even weapons, with ascended weapons requiring materials that can only be acquired by salvaging exotics.
Curiosity will keep me around just to see the fallout, but I’m done with GW2 beyond standing around in LA and using it as a means to socialize with some friends. WvW had been what kept me interested in GW2 the most. Account bound wvw ranks were a huge blow to that, and these new weapons, with their wide-spread economic impact, are the final hit.
I did not buy GW2 to be sent on a year long grind to get new weapons, but this is exactly what Anet’s pandering to fans of other games has done. Enjoy your new grind “loyal” fans till they get their single character/build a new weapon and move on to a game with even more grind, they’re going to be all you have left when you’re done destroying what used to be the best MMO on the market.
Why did not they just created more weapons skills, utility skills, traits, MORE DIVERSITY? Do they really want to blow this game up with no reason? I just wonder where the “horizontal progression went”…
Lot of over reacting in this thread.
The difference between Exotic and Ascended is incredibly minor…
Fights will still be determined by Builds, Luck before Stats ever come into play.
Full zerk builds will do ~+20% of damage. How minor is that?
For those that pay attention will find that this update actually solves the alt problem. Before you HAD to wait to get any ascended. Now this actually reduces the time to get ascended.
What I got from the TWITCH stream was that the results of what you make from the account bound time gated items are tradeable in the trading post.
http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2/c/2844578So theoretically you could make your ascended armor without any timegate it would just cost you more.
If you do want to make it yourself however it should take about 2 weeks per piece.
NOTE: This is a good thing. It makes crafting useful after you got the armor/weapons you are looking for. Can’t have everything.
I’m a little more happy! Do the weapons will be account bound after equiping them? Even transmutating them (I hate the GS look and wanna keep my GS look)? I really hope so.

What I really want is Cavalier and Rabid Exotic Trikets.
Wait what? That’s already possible:

And it’s really easy actually, get them with Karma from a temple vendor (Balthazar and Dwayna respectively).
We don’t have the jewel to put on them
The crest of the rabid have lessstatus than a jewel.
What I really want is Cavalier and Rabid Exotic Trikets.
