Turret engis you can
1. use range to kill them
2. kill their turret first (this is a pain as the turrets does not get crited)
3. Lure them out, I sometime let them take me down real low and start backing away, they get greedy and follow for a kill then I blow all my CD and kill them
4. Moa
That been said it’s still a pain more often than not I just walk away from them.

Cele DD ele , kite kite kite. I use torch, mass invis and decoy + blink I can fight a equal skill level guy to a draw. The best part is I will never lose as long as I time my stealth right the bad ones will die to my burst and the really good ones just have too much regen for me to kill so it ends at a draw.

don’t people get reward doing hot join? I have no idea since I only que ranked.

From a post in the pvp section looks like Anet is nerfing this in the HOT expansion, at least for thieves .

1.Unranked has 2 extra maps that ranked doesn’t have, court yard and Skyhammer.
2.Ranked count toward leader board and unranked does not.
3.You will get a lot more new players on your team in unranked and you’ll find that people in ranked takes each match more seriously .

Other than that they are the same in every other way

Only on forums do you find people who think they know how others will react to things, and think they speak for everyone. I only solo queue and enjoy it quite thoroughly. Sure there are lopsided games, but there are lopsided games in every other matchmaking system I’ve ever played in (Starcraft, MOBAs, FPS).

Yes I solo Q close to 100% I don’t hate it at all . I would say I have fun 80% of the games even the ones I lose . Lopsided ones too as long as I played well . I think people who want a 70%+ win rate solo Q are the ones who will hate it. I get 50% win rate and I’m good with that.

ye all dps, the best defense of mesmer is not getting hit , no pt loading up on defense stats when you run a burst build.

I don’t understand why you would not play another spec, put 6 into chaos doesn’t matter what gm trait you take you’ll life will be a lot better . I switch between pu and ci almost every other game, some time I even use BD , maybe I’m just bad but I feel like I help my team out plenty lol.

It takes forever to kill a turret engi as a mesmer and we have to do it way off the pt . So sure I can kill a turret engi after like 1000 yrs, in the mean time you just earned 100+ pts for your team and I have done jack all for mine. And if you call help at all I have to run off …

Worst is when ppl rage in chat and start insult team mates, esp. when they themselves ARE the reason we are losing. Like when 2 people go far at the start they die, go far again and die again. They notice we are losing badly then proceed to kitten about how bad the rest of the team are and how we should leave ranked and l2p….

I read all these post qqing about rank system and I don’t really understand.
1. You get nothing for being high ranked
2. In a perfect system 99% of the people will have around 50% win ratio anyway, so while we can’r prove the high ranked players have high mmr we also can’t prove that they have bad mmr either.

The match system is only bad when it produces records like 0-100 or 100-0. In any ranking ladder system almost everyone have a 50% win ratio. The only system where the best players have a hugh win ratio is a tournament system where the high end players play majority of his matches vs lower ranked players like tennis or golf.

why do people pve at all in GW2 ? I don’t get it tbh.

Yep I have noticed this in the last few nights. It’s not a connection issue it must be a server thing . I test my connection by watch auto attack, when I have bad connection I can see that auto attack slows.

Yep reading forums only get you so far because everyone has his/her view and it’s hard for someone who doesn’t play the class to figure out what’s QQing and what’s true. Anyhow if you want to get a good idea of class balance just look at the make ups of the top pvp teams that compete and/or win the money tournaments. Right now mesmer is the least played class hence why people think it’s underpowered.
Like I said before I don’t think you should stop playing mesmer because it may be kitten because really it’s not. This is what I think of the class, I’m sure others will disagree so take for what ever it’s worth.

pve , I have no idea, I don’t pve, what little pve I have done just seem so easy I don’t think it really matters what class you play unless you want to solo dungeons.
wvw: zerging wvw it really doesn’t matter once again it’s rather mindless .
wvw: Solo small group roaming mesmer is very good just watch out for good thieves :P
pvp: I more or less just pvp now days solo Q ranked 100% of the time. I’m having a lot of fun with my mesmer.

Out of all the gw2 classes mesmer plays most like a ranged caster outside of maybe power necros . That’s why I play the class. I also have ele and thief at 80 and fair bit of time played on them. Ele plays more like a melee button masher like a light tank almost and thief well it’s thief .

if you find ele squishy you should not play mesmer. Mesmer is not under powered , if it is it’s at the very very high end of pvp which most of us will never reach anyway. But it is a very very squishy class same goes for thief. You might want to try a ranger or warrior out.

Don’t judge the class as you level up. Mesmer does a lot of damage at level 80.

Mesmer is a thief with longer range . Your main defence is not getting hit (stealth, blink etc etc) and you do a lot of damage.

There are very few good shatter mesmers , most of them suck. It maybe that your mmr got better and you are getting matched with the good ones now. The difference between a good shatter mesmer and a bad one is HUGE. A good one will melt you if you are not careful a bad one is just free kill 9/10 times. Shatter takes a lot of practice to get good , you have to setup the shatter right and more important shatter mesmers are made of glass so you’ll have to be real good at blink, stealth, los and all that jazz so you don’t get melted yourself.

How so? How would queues be longer if the game used class-based MMR instead of account MMR? It’s just a different number stored in a different spot in the database. The matchmaking algorithm should be the same.

I was replying to the op, not to your class based mmr system. I think class based mmr is a good idea might be too much work for them to code though.

I think a lot of ppl try unranked to learn and they have guild mates so they gp up. To be honest for the past few nights I have had better win ratio on the side that’s not gped than be on the gped side in ranked Q.
I think your mmr get bumped up when you q as a gp. So a 4,1 v 1,1,1,1,1 match the 5 solo would have higher MMR than the 4,1. If everyone of the solo are good players you are almost better off on that solo side.

no there hasn’t been a stealth buff to mesmers. Chances are you just fought a few good shatter mesmers .

I ran a classic 44006 gs/sw+p with Halting Strike yesterday just to try it out and I gotta say I really like it. Was a bit skeptical about the concept but it can really hit hard. F3 now suddenly can do damage as well as GS5 and P5. It’s a keeper.

GS5 interrupt does so much damage , I sometimes run halting strike in unranked just for fun. You can kill a whole clump of ppl on a pt in no time , it’s pretty funny.

I have to disagree. I play a LOT of solo Q ranked, mesmer while not the most popular it’s not the least played at all. I would say.

I swap out Sig of Dom and Arcane Thief at the start of the match depends on who is on the other team. So I was thinking, man wouldn’t it be nice if Anet made 1 skill that does both, steal 3 boon AND stun .
Now I realize that would be totally oped. However this could be a good idea for all the ‘unused’ skills we have. How about combine the disenchanter and defender? heck I would use that. Or maybe combine Mimic with sig. of midnight…

I’m not saying a good player will carry every team and win every fight. If you played well it really shouldn’t matter if you won or lost. I personally are happier losing a match in which I played well rather than win one where I played like kitten.
What’s the point raging at ‘bad’ players that you will never have any influence over? In my experience the ones who kittenes the loudest about other players being bad are often pretty bad themselves. Which is not surprising when you think about it, if you are convinced that every match you lose is always the fault of others and never because bad playing of your own, you’ll never try to get any better.

It just seems that whenever at the start of the match ppl start talking in great detail on what to do , it almost always never work out. I’m almost prepared to lose when that happens esp. when you get some guy who is all preachy and telling people what they ‘should’ do. 9/10 times we lose and that one guy start raging. Some of my best matches are nice silent ones, ppl know what their doing, no one kittening no one yelling. If any chatting at all it would be joking around about names or outfits and a few gg at the end. Just saying..

you can get bad match making in streaks. It really does come in streaks. I find the best way is to take a 10 min break and reque so you are not in sync with the bad batch of ppl . I solo Q close to 100% of the time. 50% win rate in the long run is not hard.

in my experience most ragers are not all that great they spend more time talking than try to win a fight. There are 1 or 2 good players just out to troll people. I think they may be kids irl, teenagers who are trying to get attention maybe, just block them.

All I can think off is condi necro cast this instead of fear on me. I’m scared just thinking about it.

  Kite kite and kite. Warriors are so balanced and varied it’s hard to have a set way to fight them. A real good bunker warrior is unkillable 1 v 1 I just walk away unless I can fight an opening to moa them. DPS warrior is 50/50 they are harder to kite than guardians . Condi warrior is the easiest because they lack range and gap closer I can kite and kill them , just takes time.

Necro

  Even fight

  Moa. MM necros will get moaed for sure. A good power necro WILL kill me unless I find a los spot. Pretty much come down to los vs good power necros. If I can find somewhere to break los when they do their insane 5k bolts at me I win. Vs condi necros it’s easier stay away from them and let my izerker do the job.

Thief

  Easy kill? well one way or the other it’s going to be easy

  Burst and hope they don’t consume plasma . GS burst then staff chaos field on myself to counter their burst and condi them to death. Condi thieve are a pain even when they are bad, I try to avoid 1 v 1 them if I can. A good thief is not beatable for me, I can only try last long enough to get help but it’s rare to fight a real good thief.

Ranger

  Pain in the butt

  Power rangers are a pain I need los to beat them. It comes down to avoid damage when they pop their sig. Condi rangers are even bigger pain because they can take a beating like no other and their condi burst really hard counter me esp when they use a spider pet to CC me. I usually avoid 1 v 1 a good condi ranger.

Mesmer

  See other thread, most mesmers are dps it’s about out playing them . Vs Condi mesmers I try to stay at max range and just gs 1 auto attack them to death.

Guard

  Watch their boons. A tank guardian I don’t target till the last because they can soak up so much damage. DPS guardian get hit with a burst as soon as their protection is off, a lot of the time I’ll strip their boons when they get up to 12+ stacks of might and burst on them with the stolen might.

Engi

  It’s going to take a while to kill him

  80%

  Kite and kite and kite. Keep my distance at all times. Turret engi is matter of kill their turret or if they are dumb you can lure them out of their turret field and kill them outside. Condi engis is about not letting them get close to you.

Ele

  Bad ones melt, a really good one I have to play my best. Watch their boons to time my dps , watch their tells when they burst. It’s a long fight vs a good ele most likely end up in a draw unless one of us mess up . The fresh air ones are a pain their burst always surprise me . But second encounter works a lot better as I am expecting the burst damage.

PS: the wining % is what I feel in a match since there are so many bad players my % is higher than 50% for every class. But if we assume good players I would say

Yeah, it’s effective to Moa him. But it only shows how bad the Mesmer is. Next time he engages you, Moa is on CD and then, you’re dead. So learn to fight him without Moa. After that, you will never use this skill again.

I have to disagree about moa in pvp. If you can remove a bunker from the fight at the start of the match you SHOULD do it. A lot of the times whoever wins mid pt at the start wins the fight, moa the bunker burst him down right at the start pretty much wins control. In wvw ye I never use moa.

you don’t have to bait out their abilities. Most guards will have a pretty set rotation. Glass ones will pull/port spike damage you . As soon as you hit them they will pop boon and invun stuff. It’s just matter of not waste your cds when they have their defense up.

Guardians is built around boons. The key to beat them is
1. kite them.
2. Time your attack when their boons are down .
3 STRIP their boons.

For defense you need quick reflex as they can be very very bursty with their teleport / pull swirl in your face thing.

Shatter is burst, so you want to shatter at the right moment to shatter for max effect.

1. At the start of a fight before people are thinking about defense since they are at full heal, hit them fast and hard.
2. If you didn’t kill them at the start, then you need to watch their boons, wait for a time when they don’t have protection, blocking, invun etc etc up or if they still have it you should know you can strip it with your shatter.
3. Remember shatter is AE if they are all clumped lets say over a dying team mate , shatter all over that.
4. Remember all 4 shatters does stuff don’t just get stuck on F1 and 2. F3 and 4 are life savers.
5. Remember you are soft like a new born baby, so keep an eye out on who is after you at all times. Once again F4 is your friend when kitten hit the fan.

I play power pu in spvp and wvw. in wvw pu is needed, in spvp I really just go 6 in chaos for the extra toughness which helps a lot when you solo Q. I have played with the other 2 gm traits in chaos line, in the end it didn’t really make much difference.

Regarding any build with PU in it my question is always “Can I achieve the same (or better) results without PU?”

With this trait layout CI + BI with MoD is more effective 1v1, but for WvW roaming PU is great for those times when a group of 6 decides that the best use of their time is to hunt you from one end of the map to the other and in 1vX situations.

yep pretty much that. in wvw you more or less are forced to kitten some 1 v 1 to gain the abilities to escape from zergs, 4 v 1 fights etc etc.

I think you can live without it but it’ just soo good.

Thanks like I said the team comp worked out for my team. Their thief was the only threat and he was pretty bad, tbh the mesmer was not all that good. Still if one of the 2 eles where not glass dps I don’t think we would have won.

Solo Q ranked 4 v 5

I just installed overwolf this morning to record something for this thread. Was playing with setting when I started recording this, I was not expecting to win. As you can see the vid. quality is not the best. The people on the other team weren’t good nor very bad just happen to have no bunker on their team which made it possible for my team to win imo.

wvw staff + power build is a bad bad idea. In pvp staff rocks. imo the diff. is that damage stat get pushed so far in wvw the extra toughness from staff is somewhat useless but stealth is stealth so torch wins out.

I do fine solo Q ranked . about 50% win rate which is more or less what you can expect solo Q.

yes it’s not hard to do and they should really do it.

I would try unranked at least once you get the hang of it go ranked. Because ranked is a lot ‘better’ as in at least you know everyone is trying to win rather than just fooling around or trolling or random afking .

• Arcane Thievery works well if well timed. It takes skill
• Feedback is a ranger killer. The more power dps glassy he is the faster he kills himself. Feedback still needs some tweaking do.

Agree with moa. I never used moa until about 1 month ago always thought it was too gimmicky and the cooldown way too long. Anyhow I had one of those 10 game losing streaks and felt I really need to blow up my build and try to get something better going. I loaded moa as extra CC option in a pinch more than anything. After 2 nights I never took it off my bar. Now I tried moa in wvw and remembered why I didn’t use it in about 5 mins But pvp it’s gold.
So just goes to show you ‘useless’ skills may not be useless.
