What we don’t know is the rate that silk is coming into the game relative to the amount is being used up crafting Damask. If they did drop the bolt of silk requirement from 100 to 50 so it matched the other two, would a glut start to build again causing a price collapse for silk scraps?

Well, we don’t know, but we can venture an educated guess. Apart from levelling your armor crafting professions from 300 to 400, just about the only sink for silk in the game is ascended crafting, and it’s almost certainly the bigger sink by an order of magnitude or two at least. And when we’re looking at sites like gw2spidy or gw2tp, it seems like the price, as well as supply and demand, for silk has been relatively stable with no major, sustained trends in one direction or the other for a long time.

Conclusion: The amount of silk coming into the game is roughly equal to the amount that is being used up by crafting damask. Meaning that the only way to lower the silk requirements for ascended crafting without collapsing the silk price to the vendor value is to create a new large and sustained sink for it or to drastically lower the drop rate from salvaging and loot bags.

And this kinda ignores a few related problems like all the TP tax we pay on those expensive damask bolts which helps keep inflation in check, or the effect a major change in this market would have on all the other materials that go into ascended gear, first and foremost the already rather expensive T2-T4 cloth scraps (which likely means that damask will not get cheaper when you lower silk prices because linen, wool and cotton will rise and more than make up the difference).

I would like to point out that at 300 silk scraps per piece of damask, and ~2s per scrap, a lot of people out there simply cannot afford or are unwilling to invest that much money on their daily damask CD. That’s partly why the price is so inflated compared to the others – supply is less than demand, so price is driven up until it reaches the point where it causes demand to slacken off.

Halving the silk requirements of damask would doubtless drive the price down, but to vendor value? the only t5 mat which is that low is leather, and that’s because only two crafting professions use it – LW, for rare armor and Elonian leather, and huntsman, for bowstrings. The other t5 mat prices are low, but not bottomed out, and they both are both easier/more consistent to acquire in bulk and used in fewer items (every character needs 6 armour pieces, but a maximum of four weapons)

What i think would likely happen if the crafting requirements were dropped to just 50 bolts of silk:
-The sudden halved demand from the people currently regularly buying silk causes a sudden glut on the market; the price plummets
-All the people who can craft damask but normally don’t start buying it as the price falls below the threshold they consider too expensive – lets just assume these people don’t outnumber those currently buying; price stabilizes again (at a lower level)
-With the efficiency of deliberately/dedicatedly farming silk drastically reduced, the people who make an income doing so turn to other ways to make money; supply is decreased (perhaps drastically) – price rises again (but not to old levels)
-ultimately, a new balance between supply and demand is reached – the cost of silk is lower but not abysmally so; perhaps not even half its current value (considering the increased demand and reduced supply, i think this is a very likely outcome)
-Damask is the lone casualty of the whole business. Its price falls a great deal, probably by more than 50% (though i doubt it will ever be the least valuable crafting material; i don’t ever expect it to even become the second most)

Rewarding single player content

Narrrz.7532

We’re getting our challenging group content in the form of raids – but is there any demand for rewarding single player content?

Sometimes i want to play the game but, basically, don’t especially want to play with others. Personal story is wonderful for this – It’s scaled to be doable with a single player participating, but can still be challenging (the two Shadow of the Dragon fights from LS2 spring to mind), and it gives rewards, balanced for the fact that it can be achieved solo, but still satisfying (to me, anyway)

…It’s also not repeatable, or at least does not offer any rewards for repeating.

HoT will bring more story mode instances and presumably they will come with their own rewards & achievements to be completed (offering further rewards), but again, will presumably be repeatable only to attain achievements, not to re-obtain the rewards (or to obtain a separate different reward).

I’m just wondering if there’s any interest in, demand for, or intention to implement replayable, rewarding single-player content?

buy at the tp.

okay, if that’s really really not an option, then just play. do SW chests & events, do superscaled cursed shore events, randomly murder mobs, but most importantly, play. Playtime doesn’t guarantee anything but it gives you a lot lot lot more chances to finally see that elusive precursor.

of course, it won’t be the one you need. so ultimately, you’re gonna have to buy it off the TP, even if you do it with gold made from selling the precursor you actually did get.

What to do to prep for beta weekend?

Before the next copy-over, what things do you guys think are good to have in place so that beta characters (with their inability to receive mail or access the TP) can be played to the greatest extent possible?

Some things i observed last weekend:
-My mystic forge conduit does my beta toons no good if I FORGET TO PUT IT BACK IN MY BANK
-Backpieces are not one of the things made available in the boxes of exotic gear. Level a crafting profession or remember to transfer an ascended one with the desired stats ahead of time.
-For the best experience, try to get your chars as close to full ascended as is reasonable (ie, whatever pieces you have, bank beforehand)
-The beta weekends are a great time to play with the skritt ecto gambler. As long as you don’t mind walking away with a few hundred gold more than you started, which you will never be able to use.
-GEMSSSSSS the stat selectable accessories only come with celestial jewels. If you want something different, make em ahead of time (or bank your ascended ones)

What things do you guys think are good to do before the account copy for the beta weekend?

Oh, and will i have to remake my revenant (from last beta w/e) from scratch? do i keep the character but have them reset as though newly created? are they simply not allowed to be played, or do those slots get automatically cleared?

Why not have Titles give passive buffs?

That’s definitely a strong argument against the original suggestion, but it could be turned around too; a minor boost, which doesn’t markedly improve effectiveness but just gives a small increase in rewards, gives veteran players a nice little increase in rewards, while giving casual players extra reason to work towards these achieves, especially the simpler ones.

The new content, rewards for overall AP, and things like Faolain’s Blossom, Karmic converter, etc. Already provide incentive…
What’s the point of getting boosts? To make it easier to get achievements/titles. The point of getting achievements/titles? Strictly for show, and sense of achievement IMO.
If it’s to get boosts, to get achievements, where’s the cycle stop? Even if boosts are minor, without an end point the gap grows.
Also, when boosts are added it becomes a grind to feel like you’re not falling behind, the TP would become, albeit gradually, inflated at an ever increasing rate. Not good.

If, for example a super bowl winner was allowed a +1% cap room bonus, it would screw up all kinds of things after a few years. People seem pretty well satisfied with a ring and something to list in their history.

It would seem to me, that the issue isn’t that achievements need boosts. It’s that most achievements are grind over time, and not skill based.

I’m not familiar with Super bowl rules, but i presume that would improve your ability/chances of winning. That’s not what i’m suggesting.

I don’t like the idea as stated, but if unlocking the title also gave you some kind of boost (not to effacity; then they just become mandatory or highly required, which achievements shouldn’t be), for instance the dungeon master one could give you 5 extra tokens per dungeon run, honorary skritt could give you a chance of obtaining extra ‘junk’ items whenever one would normally drop – little things which have little significant impact but still make earning the title feel a little more like an accomplishment.

none of the effects would require you to wear the title in question, though.

Narrrz.7532

There’s plenty of reasons not to do this listed above. Here’s another:

This encourages a gap between old and new players, as some (many) titles are earned over extensive time. (And gaps for casuals)
Old players get boost for titles. New players unboosted.
New content & associated title comes out.
Boosts (not necessarily skill) help old player get title faster. New unboosted player is still working on it when…
New content&title comes out, to give old player something to do.
Boosts help old player get title faster, New player still working on the prev title let alone this one when….

See the pattern? After a while, New people won’t come in, they’ll have no hope of “catching up.”
Then a decision must be made; do you slow content release so casuals and newbies/casuals can catch up?

That’s definitely a strong argument against the original suggestion, but it could be turned around too; a minor boost, which doesn’t markedly improve effectiveness but just gives a small increase in rewards, gives veteran players a nice little increase in rewards, while giving casual players extra reason to work towards these achieves, especially the simpler ones.

The issue is that none of those things carry any relevance to how well you’d do in a pve dungeon. The only factor that affects your performance in pve content is how much of the solution to that specific content you’ve memorised.

Well then, we should thank our lucky stars that people are incapable of lying before the run starts when faced with the question “Do you know how to do this run?”

Otherwise, folks might have to resort to some kind of quasi-reliable method for determining capability…

Doesn’t even have to be lying. I probably thought i knew how to do AC my first run through, in our pug where we stumbled through, wiping several times and usually having at least one person go double down on each boss.

AP is a terrible way to judge anything.

It tells (in very rough terms) general playtime, familiarity with the game & presumably with your chosen character class.
I wouldn’t boot someone based on their AP score (alone) but (anecdote inc) last night i did two fractal runs, a 26 & a 19; the 26 had all people over 5k ap and went very smoothely. the 19 group i think i would have been the only one over 2k and it was just hellish. Noone was undergeared, that i could see, but generally people died to standing in the wrong spot, led the dredge elemental everywhere but under the lava buckets, regularly failed crucial dodges…
i still agree, it’s not necessarily a good indicator but it certainly can be.

F2P accounts have no access to /map ever. If you want to type in /map, then you need to buy the game.

ah, well that sucks then, blocking it until a certain level would deal with alot of the gold selling annoyance.

While true, it should be a VERY high lvl to hinder goldsellers at all, lvl 5 or 10 wont do anything, should be at least like 50 or higher of gold sellers would easily find ways to bot up to the needed lvles in very little time

The trouble is, by the time you get to that level, you’ve probably figured it out mostly for yourself – or just given up trying.
They should have rolled out this mentor system with the F2P introduction, so that new players at least have obvious friendly helpers to whisper for assistance.

I don’t get it. Core game is available for free but people still whine. Not enough character slots, can’t earn laurels, chat restrictions for new players, etc. For kitten sake it’s really simple. If you like the game then buy HoT and restrictions disappear. That’s why NCSoft/ANet made game free. Consider it as trial not truly free2play game..

That was how i took it. It’s essentially a demo mode, albeit a non-time-limited one, which gives access to the majority of the game’s content.

The restrictions in place are not to limit the demo account, but to protect players who have paid for the full game.

Has/will bag slot price ever be reexamined?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Narrrz.7532

Narrrz.7532

This is one of my ongoing pet peeves about this game; getting extra bag space is kittening expensive!

With bank tabs, it’s somewhat excusable – that’s an immediate 30 extra slots, accessible to every character, and it doesn’t cost a cent of in-game money unless you went that route to get more gems.

Bag slots are a different matter. The price is at least consistent, 2/3 the gems for 2/3 the slots – but those slots are not available to every character, nor are they cost free. You have to spend ingame money as well as your gems to actually get more inventory space.

I would really like to see bag slots made account wide, or at least be somehow equippable on a character so that they can be moved between. The current price is too expensive for anything but account wide slots, though – the cost of fitting out four, much less eight characters with even 1-2 extra slots is just too prohibitive to make it worthwhile at the present price.

Narrrz.7532

ok guys

new content with stability

DOES NOT WORK

you know the end of season 2 of living world? when you fight the shadow of the dragon?

yeah….FAIL

that shield gives you stability to give you time to light the divine fire walls.
and stop the dragon from knocking you up, or aside.

but NOT ANYMORE.

with “stacking stability” crap, the dragon RIPS through your PATHETIC excuse for stability. and knocks you straight out of that shield and into the air.

making the missions a PAIN IN THE kitten to do.

FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLL

it doesn’t help that, as a necro, your choices for heals are limited -.-

That knockup always ignored stability. You just have to be careful about timing your channel to avoid or counter the boss’s mechanics.

It still counters the 2 quick succession claw grabs that the shadow does, so if you wait for that knockup to hit (or miss), then start channeling within the bubble, you’re fine.

That said, and addressing the major topic: Separating effects that are countered by stability from the actual mechanic that removes a stability stack would let these things be balanced more effectively.

Gaheron’s allure was that he’d found a way to ascended into a fire elemental type creature, and presumably his followers (what with being flame legion and all ~) thought that was a pretty sweet deal and figured they could get a piece of that action.

so sad……its one reason theif is so popular. the attributes that best fit it are in the game not once..but twice

power, prec, ferocity
and prec, power, ferocity

so theif has 2 options

but my poor necro…..stuck with one that half works.

try power/pre/tough (knights?) and/or power/tough/fer (cavalier)

I haven’t done the math for a necro (where vitality actually increases life force gen) but toughness is superior to vit in almost all cases – 1000 toughess works out as ~+50% effective hitpoints vs direct damage.

If conditions are what you stack vit to counter, ignore this entirely.
