It is indeed a hack. Its been around for awhile. We’ve tried telling Anet about it before, big shock, they still haven’t done anything about it. It’s called midnight, it lets you teleport, stealth, fly, 1 hit kill someone, and a bunch of other nasty things. So yeah….the more you know.
Immobilize was annoying even before they buffed it, now it’s just ridiculous. The only ones not affected by it are warriors who are pretty much immune to it, who incidentally can spam immobilizes the most often of any class as well. That just doesn’t seem right to me.
snipped
I think the big question here is the base health/armor of the elementalist. Of course if you are just an elementalist you just want us to raise these, but balance must work around some fixed things and profession health and armor are an important part of defining what a profession is so that we can create powerful tools that players can actively use to circumvent these weaknesses.
Jon, please give this post a good read.
Yeah that would be all well and good if you guys didn’t keep doing stupid things like constantly nerfing those tools you’re talking about that makes boosting our health and armor unnecessary. We wouldn’t need more health and armor if you hadn’t obliterated our mobility, healing, condition cleansing and just about everything else you could nerf that made us viable.
You cant keep nerfing us without giving us anything in return. Nerf our survivability, fine, then up our damage. its ridiculous that we’re not only the squishiest class, but also the least damaging of all. Tradiationally mages are the squishiest class, but also have the highest possible dps in exchange for being so fragile. I’d be fine with being squishy if we also inflicted the most possible damage. But that isn’t the case. Warriors can do more damage with 1 attack than we can do by pressing 57 buttons. That is unacceptable. If I have to be so weak I die from a light fart in my direction, I want to drop armies with all my attacks before I do get hit. Double or even quadruple the damage of all our skills, then and ONLY then will our abysmal survivability be acceptable.
look at this gem
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_historical_traits#Elementalist_traits
The old elementalist traits
It looks like Elemental Attunement was actually the 5 point minors before.
Only thing I like there is One with Mists- Mist form at 33% health.
Wtf Anet? Put these traits back in. They make a lot of our current ones look like crap. Why were these scrapped?
Don’t rub it in. They’re moving it atleast in the next patch. so i’ll be able to take arcane abatement and vital striking.
I sometimes go without Fresh Air. Tempest defense is quite nice because of the extra 20% damage against knocked down foes. It’s pretty hilarious to jump down on someone in earth attunement with arcane abatement trait and knock them down, then burst them to hell. Taking arcane abatement isn’t really optimal most of the time though. I just use it when I feel like trolling people by jumping on them. You’re better off with vital striking and just use earthquake to knock them down then burst them.
Yeah, when we faced SBI last week we saw guys with Anet tags spawn camping us. How nice. And SBI seems to have horrible small man groups. they melt like butter against even numbers. This week is a refreshing change of pace. There’s a lot of decent small groups and roamers to fight from both DB and NSP. Its a shame the numbers are lopsided. I have a feeling if things were a bit more even this matchup would be even more intense. but atleast I get to have fun wandering around.
We had a lot more build diversity before all the nerfs. But anet is too stubborn to admit they were wrong and made a mistake and revers those nerfs. Those changes they made were class crippling changes that destroyed the core of the ele. If they want to promote build diversity, before they change anything else, they need to fix what they broke. Theyre just digging the ele further and further into its grave and destroying even more builds. Eventually ele will only have 1 build left that actually works. They destroyed dozens of niche builds that weren’t that well known when they began their dartboard approach at balancing the class. With every patch at their pathetic attempts to balance the class, more and more lesser known builds are destroyed and we’re pigeonholed into using the same thing. If they would stop being so pigheaded and listen to the people who actually play the class, instead of making horrible changes no one asked for, we would have more build diversity. Heres a hint Anet, don’t listen to whining warriors and thieves who like to spam 1 button and win on how to balance the elementalists. Heres a radical idea, listen to the people who have actually bothered playing the class and understand how it works.

^actually you’re wrong. I used to use soldier daggers, knights armor, and cavalier trinkets. I mixed in some celestial stuff and noticed a significant increase in my damage. It’s just a matter of finding which pieces to use depending on what kind of build you’re making.
All they really need to do to up our survivability is reverse all the uncalled for nerfs they’ve made for since beta. Even if they did that, we’d still be the weakest class because we need significant buffs on top of being unnerfed just to be competitive with other classes. ele always had crap damage. it used to have decent survivability, but that was taken away because apparently doing no damage but not dying was deemed op. Yet warriors can deal craploads of damage and are way, way more survivable than eles ever were in their prime. yet that’s acceptable. Seriously Anet, just admit you were wrong and unnerf mistform so we can use skills while using it again, and unnerf RTL and that alone solves several problems with an ele’s extreme lack of sustainability.
one ring for immune to condi, another one for direct dmg.
Then we all could play like warriors! :p
one ring to rule them all….
seriously though, I could see them doing something like that in the future. No one likes the condition spam, except for the ones doing the spamming. I’d gladly lose a large chunk of stats to be completely immune to it and laugh at those people. If they put something like that in the gem shop, no matter how much it cost, I would buy one for every single character I have in a heartbeat.
(edited by Nikkinella.8254)
Polearms that can be used on land. And a 2 handed battleaxe are the most likely candidates for new weapons. I don’t get why there wasn’t a 2 handed battle axe to begin with. Vikings used them all the time and norn are pretty Viking-ish. It pretty much needs to happen at some point. Flails would be nice too. And I don’t care how impractical it is, I want to dual wield rifles and be like Rambo.
Gotta agree with him there. I’ve tried both ways, You end up with better stats overall with celestial armor and use your accessories to fill in what you’re missing rather than the other way around. use one of those build editor thingies first to mix stuff up till you’re satisfied with your stats before you go through the trouble of getting that stuff though. it’s expensive and time consuming.
conditions should have extra stats to be effective just like power builds. They don’t have to give up anywhere near as much as power builds. They should introduce a new stat. Condition chance. It will be kinda like how precision is. Make it so that conditions you use only have a CHANCE to affect enemies. That way condition builds are forced to stack condition damage, condition chance, and condition duration to be fully effective just like power builds are forced to use 3 stats.
I just wish wish they would make a ring or something I could equip that would make me immune to conditions but had no other stats on it as the downside. I’d gladly lose a large chunk of stats to not have to worry about conditions. Then I could stick my stats where I want and not have to take all these mandatory traits just to survive the ridiculous condition spam.
Warriors are just visible thieves now. If you do manage to get him low enough, he’ll run away. 99% of warriors are total cowards and wont risk staying. they know they can outrun you and they will. You’ll occasionally get a few who aren’t total pansies and will stay to finish the fight, but that’s rare. Most will run away halfway across the map the second you get them below half, then run back while all you stuff is on cooldown and attempt to stun spam you to death.
Best tool for mobility: Lightning Hammer
I didn’t make an ele to play a poor man’s hammer warrior. I despise conjures.
I’ll just be happy at this point if the move geomancer’s freedom to adept, since warriors have a much better version of that trait at adept and ours is stuck at master. What’s up with that?
We also need RTL unnerfed. the range reduction was bad enough, the 40 sec cooldown is ridiculous. I’m FORCED to take firey greatsword just to have still less mobility that ranger and warrior do with just their weapon skills. It severely limits my options if I want to use another elite. Its either use that elite so I have a slight chance of outrunning op warriors who are immune to all snares, or slot something like reaper of grenth to deal with all the trolly regen builds and then have no chance of running away if things turn bad because my mobility sucks. 40 seconds is fracking ridiculous for a weapon movement skill. Change it back or if you insist on keeping the asinine nerfs to it and still letting warrior and ranger have a similar movement skill with less than half the cooldown of ours, you should atleast compensate us by doubling the damage it does and making it unblockable.
(edited by Nikkinella.8254)
That was nice in D2 when you could kill someone and get them to drop their gear. Miss my meteorb sorceress.
One last thing. Move Geomancer’s Freedom down to adept, or make it better. Warriors have a much better version of that trait at adept, Dogged march.
yeah, GF needs to be moved to adept at the very least or made better than the warrior’s trait. they get the same effect +regen at an adept. Because screw fairness.
Re roll and elementalist, they are good
can’t tell if trolling or just ignorant. Sure reroll from the strongest class in the game to the weakest. I started as ele and switched to warrior when I realized it could do everything exponentially better with a fraction of the effort. Even after the patch, ele will still be absolute crap, because they aren’t even touching the core problems with the class. They’re just attempting to put a band-aid on it. The only thing the class is good for is if you like being a buffbot in a zerg.
Most of you crying about the nerfs never played warrior before the stun spam build become popular and the world exploded with warriors. That’s what you get for using FOTM cookie cutter builds. Warrior will STILL be the absolute best class in the game after the nerfs. There are countless viable builds that make warrior godlike. I won’t be affected at all. Those few who actually know how to use warrior will adapt and still be good. You FOTMers are welcome to leave and reroll another class, you won’t be missed.
Wouldn’t that be a way to counter the lack of pre-cursors and the time it takes to craft a legendary.. rob one from the corpse…oooh yeah the QQ will be fun fun fun
They should at the very least make it a very increased chance of getting a precursor if you kill someone with a legendary. I usually target people I see with legendarys anyway, might as well get something out of it.
I’m kind of going to miss IoJ. Met a few really nice people. You guys don’t jump in on duels and try to kill the opponent and you don’t dance on bodies when you run over a smaller group. Some other servers could really learn from you, but I won’t say who. * cough * SBI * cough *
water 25… +2% damage per active boon…
1%, it was nerfed
I don’t know why that trait was ever in water to begin with. Boon duration stuff would belong in the arcane trait line I would think. Would be nice if it were buffed back to 2% and moved to the 25 pt in arcane, since the 25 in arcane is crap anyway, no one would miss it.
There’s tons of videos of eles kiting around zergs but never killing any of them. You rarely ever see even daphoenix kill anyone except when he manages to escape the zerg and a couple idiots chase after him and he manages to kill 1. On the other hand, there’s also tons of videos of warriors charging directly into groups of 20+ alone, killing most of them, and still managing to run halfway across the map when his health gets low, regening to full and returning to finish off the rest of them. Yet ele is OP because it used to be able to harass groups of people and get away and never kill any of them. I just love the ignorance of some people sometimes.
I still think it would be a good idea to make our base cooldown for attunement swapping 10 or less, and make arcane traitline give boon duration and aura duration instead. Remove elemental attunement as a trait, since every ele takes it anyway, and just let us have that naturally. Replace elemental attunement with a trait that gives us auras on attunement. Remove all auras from all weapon sets. Replace the removed auras from the weapons with teleports, since the ele is a mage and IMO mages SHOULD have lots of movement skills in combat. It never made sense for me for the thief to be the one with all the teleports, the mage should be the one teleporting all over the place.
Playing an ele is kinda like playing Guilty Gear on maniac difficulty. While everyone else is on beginner. And warriors are as stupidly OP as Justice, the final boss, was.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noHOzBDyQ2o
I don’t play ele but I think RTL should only go on 40 sec cd if you used it without a target or if your target was further away than the skill range to prevent using random far away animals to lower the CD.
That way you wouldn’t get punished with double CD if you used it as it was meant to be used.
You don’t play ele so you don’t get an opinion on it. Those of us who have played it and know how crappy ele is know it isn’t fair in the least bit considering how much survivability and mobility every single other class has WITHOUT drawbacks.
I doubt it will be anything like way back during the first karka event when you opened that big chest and got a bunch of exotics and stuff. I expect a few blues and greens and some badges and siege. Rewards for doing events have GREATLY dropped in quality over the course of the game. A few months from now, getting a green will probably be a rare occurrence and we’ll be getting whites and a few copper.
How about an elite skill that allows us to swap weapons? Then people have nothing to complain about, and we aren’t stuck helpless when we get stuck in combat with the wrong weapon set on.
I’m pretty sure SBI will come in first in this league. We were able to put up a decent fight against FA for a bit, but holy crap you guys have a lot of people. It’s yet to be seen whether or not you can beat FA as far as their organization goes, but you definitely have the manpower to take them on. It should be a really interesting fight either way, I just hope we don’t get stuck in that matchup against you 2.
I’m pleasantly surprised by these changes. I was honestly expecting nerfs, but then again i’m pessimistic and expect every class I play as to be nerfed into oblivion with each patch. I cant wait for the patch, I’m already thinking of new possible offensive builds with the new changes.
other classes have glass cannon specs, we have glass slingshot specs. Even if they gave us the ability to swap weapons, we’d still be the weakest class in game. We need a significant boost in our base damage of all our abilities and our base HP, armor, and healing ability. Even if they doubled our stats, i’m still certain we’d be the weakest class in game, that’s just how bad ele is at this point after all the nerfs. Ele has never been strong, it’s always been the weakest class. People were just really terrible in the past and had no idea how to counter an ele, some people still can’t just because they’re terrible players.
Its their own fault for whining so much before about ele being OP in the past when it never was and all it could do was stall and be annoying, but never kill anyone. Now ele has been nerfed into oblivion and is the only class that can’t bunker and those same people are complaining that the class is weak and you’re gimping their team by playing as an ele. I just find it hilarious. Had these people not been morons and learned how the class worked, because ele has always been easily counterable if you knew how it worked, we never would have been nerfed to the point that we’re useless and unwanted in competitive pvp.
I doubt they’ll give us a weapon we can summon. Personally i’d prefer dual 1 handed swords and dual pistols.
Since we’re throwing suggestions out here now, any chance of us getting an elite version of glyph of storms? I really like that ability, but it just seems like it would be better to me as an elite. Why not? we have a utility and elite version of the glyph of elementals. Just make it slightly stronger , and throw on a few more effects like the elemental glyph and let us also have an elite version. Our current elites still feel kind of blah compared to the elites of other classes. If we had an elite glyph of storms, i’d use that all the time.
A marmox, just because.
Well, I still can’t understand the idea of “reduced” attunement recharge CD as it is in the planned patch notes.
What’s the real difference between 16/10 secs and 13/10 secs? If I want to have my actual recharge rate to use the class as intended, I still have to invest maximum points in arcana traits.
Wouldn’t it be better like 13/7 secs? Or just 10 secs flat and give arcana points another meaning? That would be reason to differenciate the point distribution without be forced to 30 arcana just for the lowered CD (mechanic of our class), don’t you think?
Totally agree on that. Base attunement should just be 10 or even 7 seconds and arcane line should give boon duration and aura duration. Nothing really increases the duration of our auras and they last for too short of a time to try to make a build based around auras, which is something i’ve always wanted to try, but it’s just not possible now. well, there is the aurashare build but its kinda situational. it just never seemed that great to me. It’s nice, but not as good as it could be.
But i’m thinking more along the lines of a selfish aura build anyway since I don’t spec fully into water anyway. I’d like to make enemies regret attacking me. It would be something along the lines of a guardian retaliation build where they have perma retaliation. except i’d have perma auras.
(edited by Nikkinella.8254)
I’m actually happy about these changes. But then again, I don’t use cookie cutter FOTM builds, so i’m not affected by the nerfs at all. My builds will either be buffed or untouched by this patch. I may actually start using rifle again now that crack shot is moved.
Its kind of funny. They’re attempting to open up new builds and move people out of arcane and water, but if this patch stays as is now, people who only spec 10 points into arcane or water will be forced to spec even further into arcane and water. They’ll be doing the exact opposite of what they intend to do by moving cleansing wave and renewing stamina and forcing people who don’t rely on arcane and water to spec even further into it destroying several niche builds in the process. These 2 traits should both stay where they are.
Best changes you could make is to turn renewing stamina into a 5 point trait. no reason it cant be combined with our current 5 point trait in arcane, or even replace it and then combine our current one that gives fury on attunement with something else at adept. I still think the cleansing wave from evasive arcana should be combined with stop, drop and roll and water in evasive arcana replaced with frozen ground. It makes evasive arcana more of an offensive/control type of trait and will make a skill that’s never used (stop, drop and roll) actually used in some builds. These small changes would open up room for a lot of different new builds without completely destroying several current builds.
The elemental attunement trait should also be removed and just become standard for all elementalists. it wouldn’t be overpowered. we should just always have it as part of our class mechanic. almost every elementalist uses it now anyway, and ele is still the weakest class in the game. So your logic is flawed if you think just giving us this trait as part of our mechanic would be overpowered. It does not belong in master or grandmaster, you are wrong about that. It should just be part of our class mechanic.
(edited by Nikkinella.8254)
It would be far more useful if it was like the engineer trait where they can’t get conditions applied to the when their hp drops down low enough. Good luck staying at 90% hp as an ele. Given our lack of mobility, overall low defense, and lack of sustainability……even a stray rabbit hitting us will put us well below the 90% threshold within seconds of engaging in combat.
We’re still going to be forced into arcane and water because of our super low health and lack of defensive mechanics. Eles should be the ones with multiple teleport skills on low cooldowns, not thieves. atleast then we could avoid getting hit since we’re so squishy. And most people still spec way into arcane just for the heal from evasive arcana. Changing our healing signet to function the exact same way as warrior’s healing signet would eliminate the need for this. So would removing the heal from evasive arcana and replacing it with frozen ground, then combining the heal with stop drop and roll (a trait that no one ever uses anyway). Seriously, just get rid of stop drop and roll and combine it with the cleansing wave from evasive arcana. And just put our vigor on crit trait at 5 points like other classes with similar skills.
There, problem solved. No one will have to go into water or arcane unless they want to, we’ll no longer be forced to because of crappy survivability and need to heal just to stay alive. we also need a boost to our base health. You’ve boosted warriors health in the past (the class that needed a boost in health least of all) so I know it’s possible to raise our health.
We just need more movement skills like teleports on low cooldowns on weapons, and some of our traits moved around where they would actually be useful.
Do YB and IoJ have any genuine solo roamers during oceanic times?
There’s little point in roaming when every time you wander somewhere a zerg runs over you and dances on your corpse. I solo capped danelon yesterday and hung there for a bit and got jacked by a 20+ group from sbi who set up 2 arrow carts and a ballista, then spammed /laugh after killing me. And you wonder why we aren’t roaming much?
seems like a hack to me. No matter what you do, there’s no way to legitimately hit someone that hard with that skill. I know there’s a hack called midnight that we’ve caught some people using that gives insane damage like that. That’s probably the case here.
This is pretty messed up. Conditions in general are out of control right now. They need to give us condition immunity after being hit with CC. With all the changes they’ve made recently, it seems to be Anet’s intention to force people to run in giant blobs. Small groups and solo roamers are being screwed over more and more with each patch.
We need an elite that changes the tide of battle. Not just one that’s good for running away, since we need to run away a lot because the class is so underpowered. that’s our elite skill, running away. Yay! No, we need an elite that nukes the hell out of the enemy and makes them regret ever attacking us. Something powerful that completely shifts the battle in our favor, like Moa Morph, or Supply Drop. THOSE are elite skills. I drag a Mesmer friend with me and force them to use moa. Anyone is an easy kill as a moa, even the annoying warriors that are immune to everything with insane burst damage and tanky enough to survive my burst that one shots any other class and regen back to full before all my cooldowns are up and I can burst again. Well guess what? You aren’t immune to everything and don’t keep your 1000+ hps regen as a moa.
I want an elite glyph of storms that lasts for 30 seconds and the air attunement would do an unblockable AoE stun every 6 seconds. And no, that’s not the least bit overpowered. It would be an ELITE skill. warrior can AoE stun for 6 seconds every 8 seconds, and theirs isn’t even an elite. Fire attunement would drop meteors that would burn the opponent doing ticks of atleast 800 per second (combustive shot on warrior can tick at 1200, mine does atleast). Earth would be a daze and a blind with every pulse, water would cause 10 stacks of vulnerability with every hit and also inflict 10s of chill with every hit. Until they give us something like that, i’d rather be able to take an extra utility skill.
I’m glad there are other people who like fighting in the water besides. me. It’s really underappreciated
