Kite Basket - Help/Fix?

in Bazaar of the Four Winds

Posted by: Nkuvu.2570

Wow, just started doing these. Horrible design, ArenaNet. Large flaw on an otherwise interesting event.

Problem: If someone else opens a basket, it disappears for me. So again it’s just like that other (WoW) game, competing with others to see who gets there first. Haven’t we moved past this?

Problem: Lootable once per day per account, so even if I get there first I might prevent someone else from getting the stuff inside, and get nothing myself!

Problem: Icons on the map for locations I’ve already looted. So if I forget… oh, wasted trip. And depriving someone else of the contents.

Solution: Make these like those other things in game… you know, resource nodes? Once per day per account is perfectly feasible for things like a rich ore node. I can get there first, second or fifteenth and not lose anything. It doesn’t matter if I loot first, because I’m not depriving someone else of the contents.

IMO this is another jumping puzzle.

It is all a big jumping puzzle content… thing.

Whether that’s good or bad is very subjective, but I am honestly surprised at how much jumping is here. I spent most of the day getting sky crystals, jumping and falling and dying and dying and falling and jumping and then some more dying. I finally finally got all 40 that I needed, and I’m ready to move onto the other content… which is hooray! More jumping!

Urf.

The Labyrinthine Cliffs is a beautiful, well done area. I’m very much impressed with the scenery, the characters, the levels (this is what I originally imagined Cantha to be like when they described “fighting on the roof tops”). I’d forgotten how much I enjoy exploring new areas, and this place was great for that.

But holy cheese weasels I’m tired of jumping.

I found myself dying a lot, because I’m a terrible jumper.

I made a new low level character, and now I’m paying 5 copper per waypoint. I think I’ll be able to afford a lot more deaths before even coming close to one silver.

Obviously not a solution for anyone with full character slots, but if you do have the space, it’s a huge cost saving approach.

Quick question on support policy

in Account & Technical Support

Yesterday there was a player in Queensdale calling out events, providing the waypoint location. Which sounds fine, except that he (assuming gender simply for clarity throughout the post) was calling them out even when no event was active.

I left Queensdale and did other things, but he was still going when I returned. I finally blocked him just because I didn’t want to hear it any more. This works fine for me, but I have to wonder if this is a reportable action or not.

After all, the only thing he’s doing is calling out events. It’s not really verbal harassment, or spamming, or scamming. None of the categories in the report options seems to apply to just plain “making other people waste their time and coin on travel” (a.k.a. griefing) but I certainly can’t see it as truly desired behavior. In his mind he might even have been very funny, though it was clearly frustrating many people who zoned in and got caught by his “trolling.”

TL;DR:
Is calling out a non-existent event reportable?
If a person was to report behavior like this, how should it be done?

Minor update: Logged in today on the first try. Like before, it took a long time. I didn’t time it exactly, but I’d say it was roughly thirty seconds between the time I clicked the login button and the page refreshed to show me as actually logged in.

So on one hand it’s good news, I can click “login” and then just wait. That is, it’s working… sort of. However it’s definitely something that I think still needs attention from the forum developers. It’s a very long wait for a web page to respond.

There is a repair function, specified as a parameter. See the wiki page on command line arguments to learn how to add these. The -repair option is (obviously) the one you’d be looking for.

If that doesn’t help, I would suspect that your next best step would be to open a support ticket through the http://en.support.guildwars2.com/ page.

AOE Loot on Interact bugged

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Nkuvu.2570

Nkuvu.2570

It seems there is a problem there where if you keybind to any other key than “F” and also check the box “AOE on interact” on the options, it won’t work.

I did this:

Let the box UNCHECKED, but binded “C” for AoE loot. Now “F” works as a normal interact/loot and “C” works as AoE loot. And it has been working fine since i did this.

I don’t have any problems with both enabled. Aside from the priority that I described above.

I have the loot on interact option turned on, so my F key does AoE loot if there are no other actions to take. I’ve also bound X to AoE loot, so I can do that directly. Works just fine.

Firefox updated itself to version 22.0 this morning, but I still had the same issue.

When I finally did log in, it turns out that it was due to coffee. Or more precisely, I got tired of trying to log in and got up to get a cup of coffee. When I had returned, I was logged into the forum. So it is possible that the login process is just extremely slow and doesn’t appear to be doing anything after I click the login button.

I’d test this out more to be sure, but I’d rather not log out and be unable to log in again (my earlier experience may just be a coincidence).

AOE Loot on Interact bugged

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Nkuvu.2570

Nkuvu.2570

The AoE loot function is somewhat confusing.

If there is any other interaction you’d do for F, you do that instead of the AoE loot. For example, if you’re next to a corpse and press F, the regular single-target looting will take priority, and you won’t AoE loot. If you move away from the corpse and the prompt clears, pressing F would do the AoE loot. Or if you loot the corpse you’re next to and press again (keeping the one second cooldown in mind), the AoE loot functions properly. Clear as mud?

Could this be what’s happening for you? For my own part it took some time to get used to how it worked, and it definitely did seem buggy until I understood it.

I’ve opened a thread a while ago to suggest raising the AoE loot priority over the single target looting, though it got no responses so no idea if it’d make it into the game. To be honest, though, I found that binding a different key for AoE looting is just simpler overall. Neither really makes this a bug, just strange design.

Champion Mad Bombardier marked as veteran

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Nkuvu.2570

Nkuvu.2570

For the dynamic event “Drive Separatists out of Kestrel Market” in Fields of Ruin. The mad bombardier at the end was marked as a veteran — but he definitely had as much health as a champion. My level 80 warrior could take out the normal Separatists in less than a dozen hits each.

The last one took several minutes of fighting — and he was certainly hitting as hard as a champion normally does. Thankfully another player joined me when the bombardier was at 40% health or so, but even then it took another full minute of fighting to finally kill him.

I am unsure if the bombardier was supposed to be a veteran (I completed the majority of the event all alone) and just didn’t have health adjusted properly, or if he was supposed to be a champion all along and simply had the veteran portrait displayed.

In addition to being logged out daily, or whenever I close the browser, or at the random drop of a hat (which annoys me to no end, since other forums are capable of keeping me logged in), I’m now also having problems logging in.

I’ll click the “Log In” link at the top right. Enter username and password. Click the “login” button, and… nothing. The button fades out and cannot be clicked again. If I return to the forum pages, I am not logged in.

Repeat this process a dozen times, and sometimes the login will work.

This issue has been present for only a few days. I’ve cleared cookies and emptied cache with no effect. This is on Windows 7, Firefox 21.0.

Edit to add workaround: Note that it appears that the login is simply delayed. Click the login button, then wait. I’ve had to wait anywhere from ten to thirty seconds before the login process completes, but I didn’t have to try over and over again. Other people have reported shorter waits, however.

(this edit simply for visibility, if you’re having issues logging in you might not want to read the whole thread)

so kill her to shut her up. That is what you are suppose to do in this game. Finish the DEs

Unfortunately many of these events are group events. For example, in Timberline Falls, with the Krait Witch in the middle of the lake — it can be difficult to find a group willing to do the content.

And that’s also assuming that I want to interrupt whatever it is that I’m currently working on (hearts, usually) to go half way across the map to finish some event. The range of the NPC speech is ridiculously large and repeated far too often.

I do simply turn off the dialogue volume, but it’s only a mediocre solution for a poor design.

How is it unfortunate? Are you incapable of forming a group?

Yeah, actually, that’s the point I was making. This is the “it can be difficult to find a group willing to do the content” part of my post. Not sure how you missed that part, I didn’t write a wall of text.

The event in Caledon Forest is similar. I’ve seen the event up for quite a while before a group formed to do the content.

I’m not sure how popular this idea would be, but might as well throw it out there.

I didn’t buy the molten pick, or consortium sickle. I have no plans to buy the unlimited axe. Why? Because I think the animations are silly.

What I want is a mining pick that has unlimited uses that… looks like any other mining pick in the game. I want my axe to be indistinguishable from a copper logging axe. I just don’t feel the need for big flashy animations.

I know there are a lot of people who love the animations for the gathering tools, and that’s great. Give them the choice to use those. Give me the choice to use non-flashy tools. Just like I can choose simple armor or weapons, and someone who likes big spikes and flames coming from their eyes can choose those.

Choices for all, everyone wins. And added bonus — no extra animations needed to implement the simple tools.

Bug with Swear Word filter

in Forum and Website Bugs

Nkuvu.2570

Just plain stupid censor.

Put in a bug report thread, and wrote “wakitten by the skill”. Yeah — the original text is “was” followed by the phrase “hit by the skill”. I’ll bet that all of the other instance of the word “hit” after any other word that ends with s is censored too.

It’s understandable to have a word censor in place. It’s plain idiotic to filter common English phrases on the off chance that maybe it forms a swear word.

Knockback skills don't always knock back

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Nkuvu.2570

Nkuvu.2570

With increasing frequency, I’m having a problem with knockback skills. For example, Air Blast, the skill 3 on an engineer’s flamethrower.

What’s happening is that the enemy is knocked back, then immediately teleports back to melee range. This is for many different enemies, none of which have a typical teleport skill. For example, wargs, ettins, bandits, nightmare hounds, moas, et cetera. You can see that the enemy wakitten with the skill as they are briefly sent backwards, it’s not a matter of missing or being dodged.

Most often the problem occurs on uneven terrain, but even flat ground is susceptible to the bug.

Edit: Overzealous word filter to the rescue! “Wakitten”? Seriously? OK, let’s try pantomimes. Convert “they were hit” so just singular. So that would be “he wakitten”. Jiminiy jumpin’ crickets of doom, that’s silly. The phrase where you say “was” just before “hit” is not that uncommon. For kitten’s sake.

Issues where the search engine would randomly return 0 results instead of real results have been fixed.

Still receiving incorrect search results.

Example you can test at home: Search the Bugs forum for “disabled.” No quotes, no period, of course.

The single search result:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/That-content-has-been-temporarily-disabled-Please-try-again-later-1

That’s a thread from nine months ago, and it completely skips the recent thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Content-temporarily-disabled

Note also that the search (by design or by flaw) does not search for partial matches. Example: Search the Bugs forum for “projector.” One result, a post of mine made earlier today. Search the Bugs forum for “projectors” and receive multiple results from several different threads. It makes me wonder if the search is doing an exact, case-sensitive match. But that’d be just silly and I can’t imagine it doing that. …right?

I second the recommendation to bring this bug to ArenaNet’s attention directly, though I’m not sure how much of an exploit it actually is. It’s not like you’re profiting from the broken projector (the opposite, in fact). But that’s semantics, and reporting it as an exploit might be best.

Edit... and then you post it all there anyway (missed that before posting the above comment). Might I suggest editing that out of the post? Any decent forum software will let moderators see the previous versions.

in Sky Pirates of Tyria

Posted by: Nkuvu.2570

Nkuvu.2570

Personally, I just accept the fact that I’ll never complete the content. Simple as that, and it’s not a complaint.

I have to admit that it’s easier to accept given the reward of a minipet (really?) for all the achievements. But I don’t find the structured group play to be fun or interesting. I do love open world impromptu grouping (especially when the cavalry comes in to save my… kitten… from being thoroughly stomped). I enjoy interactions with general players in the world, but locked into a group… meh. No thanks. Particularly for difficult content like I’m hearing for this.

In GW1 I had a great alliance — two, in fact, that I participated in. But the server split scattered us all to the wind and I’ve lost contact with the majority. So I play more solo content than group content, and just… shrug it off. I doubt it’s going to get any better. Even though ArenaNet has scaling in place for dynamic events, applying that to dungeons is apparently too hard to do.

My theory is that the random spawn is broken — meaning that eventually, all projectors will be disabled but marked as active.

What’s really odd (if you ask me) is that some of the veteran oakhearts in Queensdale got smaller and apparently lost their veteran status. AoE loot

in Suggestions

Posted by: Nkuvu.2570

Nkuvu.2570

Two quick suggestions to make this nifty feature even better.

1. I have the “AoE Loot on Interact” option set. For the most part, this works perfectly for me. However if I’m close enough to loot one body, that takes priority over the AoE loot — so I have to hit the key multiple times. I’d suggest to change this so that if the current interact option is to loot, then AoE loot should take precedence over individual looting.

2. Add a quick AoE ring for range. Just a ping so I have an idea how far out AoE loot goes. Few of my skills are 900 unit ranges, so it’s not something immediately familiar — most skills are generally either melee or a fair distance (1200) units out.

I found a fix here on the forums that did not envolve closing the client.

1 Open trading post
2 Open options
3 Change game language from English to French and wait and watch the TP or other windows (usually gems will show up) but either way wait till text shows up in french.
4 Change game language back to English
5 Close options and use trading post as normal

This is not a permanent fix across different logins but it tends to stay fixed for the duration of a single playing session.

Just want to say thanks for this. Clearing the cache was not a permanent fix. And rather than dealing with support (“Did you try turning it off and then on again? Well… it’s you, not us, sorry.”) I’ll just switch languages from now on.

Minor moa racing ideas

Nkuvu.2570

I like the idea of moa racing, but I’d like to see a few more features.

1: Allow smaller (or larger) bets. Scale the rewards appropriately. If I bet 5 silver, for example, third place would pay out 2 silver, second place would pay 6 silver, and first place would pay 14 silver.

2: In the “event tracker” area, where it now shows when bets are open and closed, add position during the race. Example once the race starts:

1st: Meep
2nd: Motti
3rd: Mort

Participants would be able to easily see the status of the race, even if they don’t run around after the moas. It would also clearly identify the winners of each race.

3: Track the moas on the compass while the race is in progress for anyone who has placed a bet. Same manner as minipets, or necromancer minions, or mesmer clones (or whatever else). Just some dots so players have an idea of where the moas are in the course.

As much fun as the horn is for the musically inclined people, it’s far too easy to just sit in one popular spot and spam one note repeatedly.

Currently my only option to remedy this is turn off sound entirely. I’d rather not, given that it’s just one person being obnoxious, and still use sound cues from the game (for things such as whispers and the like) even when in town.

ALSO (along the same lines) let us please toggle off Commander icons, especially in PvE. Perhaps a reminder when you go to WvW “would you like to display commander icons?” But in PvE they just get in the way.

Commanders are very much needed for some PvE content like guild missions and god temples and so on.

They can be handy, but they can also be clutter. Killed the fire elemental in Metrica Province the other day, and there were four commanders. I couldn’t see the icons for downed players, and a few people died behind me — I might have been able to save them if I had seen them. In that case I had no use at all for the commander icons, so I’d love to be able to toggle them off.

Commander icons also obscure things like merchant icons, resource nodes, and more. If I’m just out gathering, I don’t care that the person gathering next to me is a commander.

It would like it if it was my preference, not the commander’s, to determine if I want to see the icon over the top of everything else.

Hi. There are many factors that can cause problems with the Trading Post and/or Gem Store. In order to diagnose your specific problem, we’ll need you to submit a customer support ticket, please. Also, please include any relevant information, such as your operating system, your PC specs, and firewall info.
We’re sorry that you’re experiencing this issue and hope we can help you.
Before you submit your ticket, you can try clearing your cache. To do this, you will want to close GW2 and:
1. Click the Windows start button.
2. Search for temp
3. Find any gw2cache folders and delete them.
Relaunch the game.
I hope this fixes it for you, but if it doesn’t, please follow my initial instructions.

Thanks for the assistance. I do have to say that these instructions did not help in finding the cache folder — Windows search returned tons of results for my Templates folder from GW1, but nothing in AppData\Local (where the temp folder lives, obviously). I was able to find the cache folder manually since I knew where to look, and afterward verified that a search for “gw2cache” in the second step there was successful, although I did have to tell Windows to search the computer again.

All of the above is in the hope that it will assist anyone else trying to clear the cache. After I did clear the cache, I haven’t run into the issue with the trading post again. It’s possible that it’s just a matter of time or number of open/closes or perhaps the alignment of Meep and other racing moas, but I’m hoping the issue is gone for good.

Given that I frequently hear people in LA asking why their trading post suddenly goes dead — and the response of “exit the game and restart” coming from other players, I’m going to make a leap and say it’s not just me.

The trading post will die at any time throughout the day, and I’ve experienced almost no lag with the game. When the trading post does die, I have no other problems that are lag associated. No skill delays, no chat delays, no rubber banding, nothing. It’s been quite some time since I’ve been disconnected, and nothing in the linked thread sounds like my experience with recent game play.

It also happens if I’ve only been playing a short time, and do a number of open/close actions on the trading post. For instance, if I’m flushing items into the Mystic Forge, I’ll purchase some items, flush them, salvage what I can, then buy more. Too frequently and suddenly the trading post will fail to load. Forum search provided zero results for something I really expect to be here. I’m surprised in a way.

The bug: Trading post frequently fails to load fully. Gems will not be displayed, by character’s gold is not available (even though I am carrying a bit of spending coin), and the items to sell page will be completely blank, even with an inventory full of items that are things I could be selling. This happens on repeated loading of the trading post. No exact number, but the more often I use the trading post, the more likely it is to fail (I’d estimate a dozen times of opening the trading post, or less).

The only way to reset this is to exit the game fully and restart it. It doesn’t seem to be an issue with slow loading, I’ve left the window open for several minutes before without ever seeing the trading post fully load.

Although the game is not particularly long to load, there are many times when I do not wish to exit the game fully but would still like to be able to use the trading post.

The elixir gun, bomb kit, flame thrower and tool kit can all be equipped indefinitely. Active or idling, my engineer never has to re-equip that kit unless I change zones or manually stow the kit.

The grenade kit, however, stows itself after roughly five minutes. This is five minutes of active play, or idling, or a combination.

This isn’t a game breaking bug, I can simply re-equip the grenade kit immediately. However it is something of an annoyance since it behaves differently from other kits — and combine the manual aiming and use of the grenades, it’s just one extra thing to keep track of during a hectic fight. Please make it work like the other kits and stay equipped until I stow it myself.

(edit: p.s., I’m very surprised that there were zero topics returned for searching the bugs forum for “grenade”, but that’s what happened for me. If this is a duplicate thread please merge and give the search engine a swift boot for me.)

Fireworks Thread - Overflow and Achievement issues

It’ll be interesting to see what Arenanet’s response is to this problem. The whole event has been pretty glitch, so hopefully they’ll at least put out an apology – even if it’s just for the lack of information about timings of the event.

I suppose it’s not that important an issue that anyone will be fired, but they should definitely think more about how to make the game enjoyable from the players’ point of view.

To be honest, the actual bugs haven’t bothered me too much with the event. Sure, moa races were exploitable and needed to be fixed, and minipets had a nice forge upgrade that also needed to be fixed… but those are accidental. It’s easy to forgive the developers that forgot to think of food buffs in Dragon Ball arena (especially since it didn’t take long to fix).

What’s far worse, though, is that someone sat down and said “dawn in game! That’s a perfect time for fireworks!” The design decision is poor. The decision for low health holograms was also poor (though that could have been a bug). Apparently no one pointed out the very obvious problems with having fireworks at dawn in game. I’m no game designer, but even I can see the issues here — as can many many other people who have chimed in to the thread.

I would expect that these kinds of decisions would take some thought, and it’s troubling that the issues were overlooked.

Let me explain how this works.

The firework event cycle (them happening every two hours) was started at 9:00 AM PDT. The event itself is tied to the ingame time and will happen at dawn (ingame). So your fireworks might not have happened yet, as it is not dawn ingame.

Apologies for us not communicating this more clearly. But the fireworks will happen every two hours over the course of the weekend, so plenty of time to marvel at them and get the achievement.

So if I miss the fireworks show, I have no way of telling when the next one is. I can usually tell if it’s “day” or “night” in game, though that’s not as distinctive as I’d like.

However if I get into the game and it’s night, how long do I have to wait? No idea. When’s dawn? No clue. I can’t even leave Lion’s Arch, because I might be in another overflow when I come back — and of course not all day/night cycles are synchronized in game so dawn out in Gendarran Fields has nothing to do with the time of dawn in Lion’s Arch. Or anywhere else.

This would have been much better if it was scheduled on the in game clock — every odd hour, for instance.

I’ve just done a couple and their health is noticeably higher. They’re still easy to kill on your own but you have to actually make an effort to bring them down in seconds.

Agreed. It seems perfect now — not so much health that you’re spending an eternity fighting these, but enough so that people still have a chance to tag them.

I’ve heard complaints that the initial few seconds of invulnerability is bad, but I think that’s because those people still wanted the fast kills with one tiny AoE. Personally I feel that the spreading out is another good change.

Nicely done, ArenaNet. Thanks for listening.

The thing is that the mob health balance is pretty much spot on … if you are fighting them in a level-appropriate zone.

I’m not sure that’s accurate. I have to admit that I haven’t tested myself, since all of my current characters are level 80. But I heard a few people report that they were killing the holograms in one or two hits even on brand new characters.

On Screen Chest not showing For Boss Fights??

I doubt it’s a significant task to glance a thread and see it’s resolved — if any time was wasted, it’s a trivial amount. So I wouldn’t worry about it.

For reference, the wiki will often have information that players in map chat might not. In this case, if you search for “bonus chest” you are redirected to the chest wiki page. The information about bonus chest level is near the bottom of the page. Just another place to check if map chat doesn’t have the information you need (and now you know, and knowing is half the cattle! Or something!).

do i have to be a specific level before the chest starts appearing?

That’s it in a nutshell. You need to be level 40 or higher for the bonus chest.

Actually, that’s not a fair representation. Yes, you could get the gifts that popped with out fighting the mobs, but the mobs also had their own loot tables very similar to what we see with this iteration. It was always better to kill the mobs for the loot.

This isn’t a Wintersday thread, so I’ll try not to digress too much. However I saw a lot of people just open the big gift, grab the small gift inside and just run away. The toys wouldn’t de-spawn quickly, so you’d see groups of toys just hanging around. Regardless of what the loot table was like (I forget, to be honest, if they dropped anything worthwhile), I saw this behavior quite often.

Why not camp the spots like the campers?

Because it’s not fun? In any way?

I don’t know about you, maybe you think the reward is enough to make it worth while, but ten minutes of inactivity followed by ten seconds or less of fighting, followed by ten more minutes of inactivity (lather, rinse, repeat) makes me want to spork out my eyes.

I do agree with some other posters that things will calm down as the event goes on, but I have to wonder why it’s a problem in the first place. Consider a dynamic event — anywhere. It scales with the number of people around. Since day one, this has been in the game because the developers know that more players means that they’ll need more things to kill. How did the hologram projectors miss this obvious treatment as well?

Dragon Bash Pinatas

Despite the last hotfix saying the following:
“Fixed an issue with Piñatas where players could interrupt each other and not get candy or achievement.”

They’re still very much broken. Fireworks too.

Note that the patch notes had this line removed. So it seems they’re aware of the continuing problem with the pinatas and fireworks.
