I’ve heard of one hat from an NPC somewhere in the Iron Marches, but unfortunately I don’t know the name of the NPC or their location. But maybe that’ll help narrow down the search a bit, or someone else can confirm with more specifics.

Edit: Just realized that I could search Reddit quickly with “Iron Marches”, and found the name of the head piece — which is listed on the wiki, including location: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Iron%27s_Tailpipe_Bandana

But that’s the only piece I know of that’s not gem store.

World of Warcraft does have a colorblind setting, including a few different options for different types of color blindness. Ten different settings, if memory serves. Though it’s been a while, so I might be misremembering the exact count.

They also added text to describe rarity of items when the colorblind mode is enabled (so instead of the yellow/green/blue/whatever color text, you’d have an extra line saying rare/masterwork/fine/penguin in the tool tip).

It’s still not perfect for all color blindness. For my case, I had a hard time with enemy players marked for PvP (yellow names) and friendly players marked for PvP (bright green names). Also had a problem with flight masters (green exclamation mark) and quest givers (yellow exclamation mark) — but only on the compass.

So I’d still be more in favor of customizable settings rather than trying to accommodate different styles of color blindness.

Golem Banker access

It sounds like you just stuck the golem banker into the bank manually. The banker golem is not affected by the “Deposit All Collectibles” option.

The minipet golem is deposited by this option, but you can also get an “invisible” bag and put the minipet golem there. Invisible bags are made by crafting, and the contents of the bag will not show up in vendor sell lists and will not be sent to the bank when all collectibles are deposited.

When you use the golem banker, the golem that you interact with in the world to access your bank will only stick around for a few minutes, though I’m not sure of the exact time. But you can re-summon the golem by using the item in your inventory (assuming its time has not expired).

I would like to be able to hide my water breather.

My heavy armor characters got one from Bloodtide Coast that looks like a helmet — doesn’t even cover their nose or mouth, so I’m really not sure how it helps with underwater breathing. But it does look pretty dorky (I normally hide their helms on land).

I can’t think of any characters of mine that really want to hide boots or gloves, but the option certainly wouldn’t hurt. I do think that it’s probably best if the chest and leg armor stays in its current un-toggleable form.

I don’t agree that it would be a problem with PvP. As it stands, do you think that someone without a helm has a broken one? Or a character without shoulder armor is weaker? Or do you assume that they’ve just hidden the pieces. I’d say it is far more likely to be simply hidden, and one could assume the same if other pieces could be hidden as well.

If stability lasted longer than five or eight seconds with a long cooldown (25 seconds to a minute, depending on the skills I know of off the top of my head), then sure. I could see that as a decent argument.

But when you get stunlocked by a few translucent oozes or mummies in the labyrinth (haven’t yet been to Orr), there’s nothing more frustrating than watching your character get ripped to shreds because you can do literally nothing except wait for the cooldown on your stability skill again.

It’s not just Orr. I had problems with the aforementioned translucent oozes. These in Gendarran Fields near the skill point (side fun times — the cave trolls nearby also have a knockdown, but at least that one can be dodged). With multiple ettins I’ve been stuck on the ground for a while. With multiple griffons I’ve been able to get up only to be knocked down again. With multiple centaurs I’ve been knocked down, then launched, then knocked down again.

Whee, fun times! Except not. And each time, I had stability skills or stun breakers (Dolyak signet or “Shake it Off!” for example) on my skill bar, but waiting for cooldown.

Colourblind Mode would be nice, I guess. No real harm in it.

However, there is no real colour-related content in fights. Friend/foe difference is easily solved by remembering what your allies look like, or what their names are. Target calling/assisting also helps a lot. And for the AoE indicators, really, all you need to do is notice the massive particle effect going on.

I disagree about the color related content. The AoE rings for me are sometimes very hard if not impossible to see. These are the pre-hit types of rings, big neon signs to most saying “dodge out of this now!” I got nearly slaughtered in the Mad King fight because I couldn’t see AoE rings at all.

I have problems with jungle trolls because the red AoE of their poison attack blends in with the green jungle textures. Then I’m standing in the poison for a second or three. I don’t typically have a problem with cave trolls, their AoE rings are often on dark stone or dirt, I can dodge out of those easily before rocks fall and everybody dies.

I frequently miss the AoE rings on snow as well. The ring is far too pale in comparison. I usually find out because there’s a big chunk of ice hitting my character on the head.

There’s some AoE I can avoid easily, even if I can’t see the rings. That pile of burning hot lava on the ground near the fire elemental in Metrica Province? Probably not somewhere I want to stand. But there’s a whole lot more that I get hit by simply because I don’t see the warning.

I’ve said it before, but I’d really like to be able to customize some of these colors so that I can play the game more easily.

So many greedy people here. Is 2 silver really that big of a deal to you?

What I don’t understand is why this issue bothers you so much.

You’ve started out with an accusation of an “exploit” which is an emotionally charged word, to describe an action that’s been in place since the BWEs. You accuse people of not wanting to pay extra as “doing it wrong.” Then you accuse anyone who isn’t excited about your idea as “greedy.”

And how does it hurt you if someone else doesn’t spend that 2 silver? Are you just upset because you see people arrive in the Heart of the Mists and they run away before they say hi? Are you sad because you don’t want to take the time of the extra loading screen to do this Heart of the Mists to LA trip yourself, so everyone else should suffer? Or is it just that you’ve decided that you know what the ArenaNet developers intended, and people are (gasp!) breaking the Rules and must be punished?

Your arguments for this change are less than compelling.

Forum ate the quote post button (common glitch), but… “what happens if I join the server and whenever I get a chance to play it is Full??”

If you log on and your home server is full, you will simply log on to an overflow server instead. The overflow server is nearly identical to your home server, but players from several different servers will be present. Also, on your home server you get bonuses from the WvW status (so if your server is doing really well in WvW, you may get bonuses to gathering or the like). These bonuses won’t be available on the overflow server.

Aside from that relatively small difference, you can play as you would normally. You are placed in a queue automatically to move to your home server when there’s a spot available, but you can continue to play on the overflow server if you like.

Change my char race

Nkuvu.2570

The problems listed are not insurmountable.

Racial skills — translate to the new race, or refund the skill points. Not all racial skills will translate one-to-one, of course (humans have an extra heal, for instance, that other races may not). So I think the skill point refund is the better option here, particularly given that the skill points are not limited in the game.

Personal story — consider the personal story complete to the same point, with random decisions made during the progress. Have a human that’s completed up to level 10 of the personal story? Race change would make it so that the new race’s personal story was also complete to 10. Items can be easily translated, since many of them are the same (and there are always three choices, so use the same for the new race as well).

The only sticky wickets I see with personal story is something that’s mid-progression. Say completing to level 6 and race changing, you’d start the new race’s story half way through. Confused player? Oh well, that’s what you get for story progression. And the Orders. I’d recommend keeping that the same no matter which race, so you can’t race change to switch Orders (which is, as far as I know, not currently possible in game).

Racial armor can be translated. Have Asura tier 1 cultural, and making that Asura into a Norn? Poof, that armor piece becomes Norn tier 1 cultural.

Would it all be a snap to implement? No. But possible.

But come on. If I’d been in the middle of a cave of spiders or something, I could easily see combat taking more than three minutes. And not some place I’d want to be when logging in again.

"Destroy Psylithium Generators" event very broken spawn rate

Nkuvu.2570

Event: “Destroy Psylithium Generators” in Sorrowful Sound, part of Bloodtide Coast

The number of players in the area was mostly just one. Every once in a while one or two other players would pass by and start to assist. Then they’d see the Inquest number and veer off. At most, there were three players at once. The vast majority of the time I was doing this event entirely alone.

Around each generator, I started with a half dozen Inquest. Uh, OK. Lure them out one by one, kill them. By the time I got back, more had spawned.

The rate of Inquest spawning seemed to increase as I destroyed more generators. After three generators were destroyed, the number of Inquest around each generator was too high to count. In part because they were all on top of each other, like a bot swarm.

But since I’m stubborn, I finished the blasted event. I swam in, got off a few shots at the generator, ran away and healed up. Lather, rinse, repeat repeat repeat and some more repeat.

For the last generator, it was simply “run in, shoot the generator a few times, die, respawn” instead. The number of Inquest was…. well, the terms I’d use would end up being kittens. So yeah.

All of this? Because I wanted to talk to the frikkin’ karma vendor Creator Zee, who apparently can’t sell things while an event is running.

This one event took me well over an hour, and involved many many deaths.

its a good idea and a reasonable one as well. but how many of you would buy copper harvesting equipment if it were implemented? i sure wouldnt if the other ones were better and less inventory space. so no i wouldnt want it.

There’s still a level requirement for the high level tools. You cannot equip iron tools until level 10, steel tools until level 20, and so on.

There’s no player market for copper tools, as they’re vendor purchased and soul bound. So the loss of copper (or any other level) tool sales hurts no one.

I already buy higher level tools to avoid the necessity of juggling and inventory space. I just waste the tool use when I gather lower level nodes.

I think the suggestion is brilliant.

I’ve been doing a fair bit of map completion on alts. The cities each give 3 transmutation stones for completion, and can be done right out of the tutorial. So that’s 18 basic stones for just running around a bit. Regular map completion often gives stones as rewards too, though that’s not guaranteed.

For fine stones, I’ve picked up several from Black Lion chests, using keys mostly from personal stories (again, several alts) a few from map completion, and one or two from the gem store.

For a while I was thinking that the basic stones were hard to get, but with several alts, including one that gets re-rolled frequently and can complete cities again, I had a stack of basic stones pretty quickly. Plus extras.

Good Looking Medium Armor?

Nkuvu.2570

For armor skins, I find it’s best to browse the PvP locker. This will let you look at individual pieces of armor — allowing you to mix and match, or see what an armor set looks like with shoulders/head hidden (unlike armor images on the web, where they show the full armor set all the time).

There are many sets that don’t match their PvE names in the locker, and some sets that are not named uniquely (two “leather” sets in the PvP locker, for example), so if you find a set you like and want to know its PvE location, I’d recommend a screen shot along with the PvP locker name.

To get to the PvP locker, click the PvP icon at the top of the window, and choose “Go to the Heart of the Mists”. If this is your first time there, you have a tutorial of sorts available — though you can do what I did and skip it by just running straight across to the Asura gate. This is a one time thing for your account, any further characters will go straight to the Heart of the Mists. Once there, go to your right — a bit behind the gate is a trio of lockers where you can store PvP armor. And more relevant here, you can preview each piece, including weapons and cultural armor.

I have a few characters at level 50 or so. One at 53, my highest level character. I took the high leveled character to the different places for the Act II book — and had to use a guide, since these were places I’d never been before (so the clues were totally meaningless to me).

After completing it all on that one character… the rest are probably going to pass the Act II book, even though they completed Act I. They’re not high enough level, I don’t enjoy dying repeatedly trying to get places, and don’t want to be escorted.

This is OK.

I can take my level 30-something thief into the Mad King’s Labyrinth and be upscaled to 80. I can bring my level 40 mesmer to the Reaper’s Rumble or the Lunatic Inquisiton easily. And so on.

The only thing I’m missing is one back slot item and some story text. The vast majority of the event is still perfectly accessible, even to my low level characters. And that’s only because I really don’t want to bother with finding help to get to the places I would have to go.

Everything I’ve heard is that the level of tools makes no difference (provided you’re not using tools that are too low level). The “crits” you are talking about are most likely from the WvW world bonus.

I was getting two copper ore per swing on a normal copper node… using copper tools on my new level 4 guardian (not for every swing, but enough for me to notice). Currently my server is dominating WvW, so this is certainly the source of that bonus.

Of course this doesn’t entirely rule out the possibility of high level tools giving a bonus, but I think the WvW is a more likely reason than anything else.

Camera issues during "Accusation" quest

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Nkuvu.2570

Nkuvu.2570

This is the second character I’ve completed the personal story quest “Accusation” on. The first was stuck outside the fort for the bandit attack, and forced to fight a large group of bandits alone, then go over and fight more to stop the mortar attack.

My second character made it into the fort before the gates were closed — though they broke the gates down anyway, so I still got to fight them (at least this time I had help).

A Lionguard NPC instructed me to use the cannon to disable the mortar attack. As soon as I approached the cannon and pressed F, my camera went into jerky, stuttering spasms. It was nearly impossible to aim the cannon accurately.

As soon as I pressed F to leave the cannon interface, camera went back to normal. I tried this several times (while under bombardment from mortars) and no matter where I stood, the camera was extremely difficult to work with.

My suspicion is that the player camera gets lodged inside the wall once the cannon is used, given the location of the cannon on top of the wall. If the camera issues are difficult to easily correct, I would guess that a small platform to allow the cannon to sit on a normal flat surface (rather than in the wall as it is now) would still permit firing without wall interference. Though of course this is all guesswork on my part.

Short version: Camera super wonky when cannon used, was eventually able to finish, but please to be fixing yay.

Duelist set inconsistency

I’m not sure how I left that out. The Duelist armor is one of my pet peeves, I was sure I had a note about that in there. Must have edited it out of my post (my previous post here went through several revisions as I realized I could go get a screen shot to help identify armor).

Anyway. Yes, the exotic level 70-something+ Duelist armor looks the same on a Norn as it does on a human. I was considering that set for my Norn engineer, though it doesn’t quite fit the personality (I wanted it mostly because “not a coat”).

Clean up armor naming

in Suggestions

Posted by: Nkuvu.2570

Nkuvu.2570

One set of armor may have several different names, depending on where you look. The PvP locker is especially bad for this. It’s a lot like there was a barrel of names with armors, and no one bothered to look to see if the names were consistent.

For example, in the PvP locker there are two medium armor sets that are called just “leather.” There are two heavy armor sets called “pit fighter’s.” These are very different sets for each case, and of course neither set is available in PvE with those names. And those are just two examples off the top of my head (there are many many more where the PvP locker names don’t match the PvE sets).

But this isn’t just a problem with the PvP locker — in PvE there’s a low level Duelist set of medium armor from karma vendors in places like Kessex Hills. There’s also high level exotic Duelist armor that’s a level 70-75+ drop (I’ve only seen “Berserker Duelist” for this latter set, but that’s not necessarily guaranteed). These sets are vastly different, why do they have the same names?

My suggestion is to look at each armor set. Choose a name for it. Make it the same name throughout the entire game, whether that’s PvE or PvP. Don’t have multiple sets with the same names and different appearance.

In the end, when I refer to a particular armor set, I don’t also want to have to include a screen shot to make sure we’re all talking about the same thing. I wouldn’t care if you had to make up new names for some of the multiple sets. Call it “Bongo the One-Eyed Sword Master” armor — just as long as it’s consistent and unique per set.

Respawn speed ridiculous?

I’ve run into some areas with ridiculously high respawn rates. And others that seem to be just fine. I don’t really understand why there’s a difference, unless it’s by design.

For example, my mesmer was completing the map in Diessa Plateau today. Around Grendich Courthouse, the ghosts were respawning almost faster than she could kill them on one side of the area. Kill two or three, and the first one pops up again. I’ve had similar issues with the ghosts near the skill point at Ascalon wall in the Plains of Ashford.

There’s another area with Separatists that never stop appearing, also in Diessa Plateau. I was the only player in the immediate area, and the Separatists were always spawning. I wish I had a screen shot, because I was there for a few minutes killing a bunch — and had more than a few corpses waiting for me with loot, but I couldn’t get to them without fighting through three more Separatists.

As to the rest of it… quoting the OP: “So is this not seen as a serious issue?” Personally, no, I don’t think it’s a serious issue that people can friend you without asking. Nor do I think that it’s problematic that guilds can see that you’re online even if you’re not representing.

This set is sold in places like Kessex Hills from karma vendors. Just to make sure, I went to Fort Salma and previewed the coat on both my Norn and a human character: http://i.imgur.com/zaWPn.jpg

Aside from the somewhat amusing fact that my human is larger than my Norn in the preview window, and obvious color differences, the coats look pretty much identical.

You have to remove the gear you’re wearing, and they have to at least be the same level (or below). You can’t transmute to a higher level.

Removal of gear is correct, but you can transmute to armor you can’t yet equip. My thief is wearing Berserker Duelist armor, that’s level 75+ (bought from the trading post). My thief is only level 36. (another example, my level 49 necromancer is wearing the Order of Whispers leggings, level 80 armor)

The only potentially tricky part is that if the high level armor has runes, you may need to have runes on the lower level armor as well — the transmutation process balks if the high level runes are too much for the low level stuff.

There’s no need to send yourself mail in game.

To transfer items or gold, visit a bank. Bank access is from any crafting station, or NPCs in the cities. There’s a portal to the racial capital near wherever you started (often behind the character’s initial position) so it’s very easy to access the bank as soon as you’re done with the tutorial.

So really, it’s not a bug that you can’t mail yourself, it’s by design.

In game clock: Day and Night?

Speculating on the triggers for the swamp event are missing the topic of the thread.

Maybe the event in question is in a graveyard. Maybe it’s something else. Whatever the specific event may be, the question remains. Can you determine where in the day/night cycle you are?

As far as I know, the answer is no. We know it’s a short period, as pointed out already, but whether it’s just a few minutes before dawn or a few minutes after sunset, it’s impossible to tell unless you were there for the transition and noticed it.

Who is the moa?

Running around Queensdale today, I’ve received a dialog box from “Chloe” asking “Who is the moa, who is the man?” This has happened in several different spots throughout the region, and none of these times have I been anywhere near an NPC named Chloe.

I asked in map chat, and someone mentioned that it was for an event with the carnival in Beetletun. The character that’s been seeing this has never been there, or anywhere near there.

Normally this type of thing wouldn’t be a problem. But it’s a large dialog box — in the middle of busy events it was nearly fatal for my character.

The dialog box has appeared maybe a dozen times so far, and I haven’t been in the zone for long. It does not seem to be tied to location, I’ve had it appear when standing near Eda’s Orchard, in Shaemoor, or near Ojon’s Lumbermill (as shown in the screen shot below).

Just for reference, included a screen shot: http://i.imgur.com/GPyam.jpg
(note, added text to indicate name of the waypoint, and blanked map chat because it was irrelevant and no need to post other character names)

Are character actions tied to Emotes exclusively?

If you’re really concerned about it, you can go to the home district in your city (or any city, really). That’s an instanced area, and most of the time there’s nothing hostile in there so you can mess around with emotes and what not to your heart’s content.

Of course if your personal story is currently taking part in the home instance, there may be lots of hostile things. But you can always go to a different race’s capital and enter the home instance there.

What is the Red Dot with a X in it on the skill bar?

A screen shot of the “red dot with an X” would be very helpful here.

Option to use the looks of other armor types.

I’d be in favor of this, if only because it would mean that my medium armor wearers would have more options than coat, coat, coat, coat, short coat, coat, or for variety… coat.

Color Blindness Accommodations

Partially color blind here. Some things mentioned I have no trouble with — I can easily distinguish masterwork and rare items, for instance. Other things like the red AoE rings… depends a lot on the terrain. On snow? Forget it. Can’t see them at all, the red is too pale. On dark dirt? Usually.

As has been mentioned, it’s very hard to make a “one size fits all” color scheme. Especially considering the differing degrees of color blindness and the different shades people have troubles with. So rather than try to make something work for everyone, just add more customization.

I would expect this to be a whole separate tab in the options window, with labels. “Enemy AoE rings,” “Friendly AoE rings,” “Masterwork items,” “Player names,” “Friendly NPC names,” and so on and so forth.

Not only would this let people who are color blind choose some better contrasting colors, it would clue some people in to the mere existence of these differences. For example, I have a hard time telling friendly player names apart from friendly NPC names — and didn’t even realize there was a difference until someone pointed it out. I still can’t identify them quickly, so I’ve resurrected a fallen NPC before a player (oops).

Utility skills underwater

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

We have different weapon sets for land and underwater use. This is not new.

What I also want to be able to do is set different utility skills. This should be possible. But when I rearrange land utility skills, I also somehow rearrange underwater utility skills.

Let’s take my new engineer as a recent example. Level 11, so only two utility slots open.

On land, I want Elixir B for slot 7. I want Throw Mine for slot 8.
Underwater, I want Grenade Kit for slot 7. I want Elixir B for slot 8.

But wait! I can’t.

If I put Elixir B in slot 8 underwater, that rearranges my skills on land. If I rearrange the utility skills on land, it rearranges my skills underwater. Why are these tied together? They have nothing to do with each other.

As soon as I choose a utility skill that’s the same as the underwater/land skill, the opposite land/underwater setup is rearranged. Rearranging one should have zero bearing on the arrangement of the other, no matter what skills I use.

What armor did you wear? (Light Armor)

Although I suspect for my ele I’m eventually going to be going for the skimpiest outfit I can find because she’s a sylvari and I love the bioluminescence effect, especially on the lower back.

I have two Sylvari that wear light armor (elementalist and mesmer) and this is the approach I took, for the same reason. My elementalist is wearing the crafted Winged set (from 250 tailoring or so), and my mesmer is wearing the Feathered (300 tailoring) set.

My human necromancer is wearing a mix of armors. I got the Order of Whispers leggings, top from karma vendor at Fort Salma in Kessex hills, boots from crafted tailoring (winged set), and gloves are just the lowest level crafted pair of gloves. Description for my necromancer is harder than just the image: http://i.imgur.com/WwTV0.jpg

I originally was hesitant to start transmuting armor so low — my characters are typically ranging from 30-45 (roughly) so there’s going to be definite armor replacement. But I have also been doing a lot of map completion, so the basic transmutation stones are coming around fairly quickly. I’m really pleased with how my characters look, though of course I may change appearance slightly as I progress.
