Helping finding a leather armor look.

I’ve already explained how I got my armor. Twice.

I bought it. On trading post. Berserker Duelist. Transmuted.

I really can’t make it any more clear than that. I’m not sure why it’s a difficult concept.

This is not the same as the “Duelist” set that’s available from karma vendors in places like Kessex Hills. The Berserker Duelist is exotic level 75+ armor that’s from drops… somewhere. I’d tell you where it drops except that I don’t know, as I bought the armor from the trading post.

Duelist armor from karma vendors for males looks like:
http://www.gw2armor.com/human/male/k2/display_looks.php
The corresponding female set:
http://www.gw2armor.com/human/female/k2/display_looks.php

See how the male armor on that page looks completely different from the image on the wiki for the male duelist armor? Gee. Wonder which one is correct. Probably the gw2armor site, since the male version of that set actually matches the female version (see the page Duelist Armor: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Duelist_Armor to see that these are two different styles — wiki is user edited, and sometimes wrong)

Maybe… checking in game would help? There’s a karma vendor at Fort Salma in Kessex Hills that sells the “Duelist” chest piece. See which set it looks like. Then if you have gold to spare, you could buy the Berserker Duelist chest piece and see which set that belongs to.

Nkuvu,

Your naming is a bit wrong and confusing in your screenshots. The first you are calling beserker dualist armor doesn’t exist in PvE under that name. according to the wiki Duelist armor in PvE looks like: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:MaleDuelistArmor.jpg

Same set. Male armor looks different than female armor.

My thief is wearing the Berserker Duelist armor, so I’m not sure how you think it’s the wrong name. Want a screen shot? http://i.imgur.com/jzC4a.jpg

Notice that my thief is standing in the middle of Lion’s Arch. This is the PvE set, and I bought it from the trading post. Then transmuted onto armor that my thief could wear, just like I said. I did the same for the pants, though I trust I don’t need to take a screen shot of that too.

The first one I happen to use on my engineer is reffered to as named medium armor and exist under names named after famous gw1 npc’s:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Armor_set#Named_armor_sets
I actually am using a combo off Shiro’s and Zho’s armor but all medium named armor sets look the same.

And that’s bind on pickup, if I’m not mistaken, so I didn’t mention it.

Camera control issues - a documented list

OK, I’ll post here again. No one responded to my earlier post, and I’m pretty sure that making a new thread will just get merged again. So. Question.

My Norn cannot choose the zoom level. Every time I zone it gets reset. It’s not even consistent reset — sometimes it zooms out more on zone than others.

It’s a minor annoyance, but it’s enough so that I’m about ready to delete my stupid Norn because the camera doesn’t actually do what I want. Stay the kitten kitten kitten (lots more kittens) same every time I zone.

Is anyone else seeing this? I’ve tried renaming the local.dat file to wipe out locally saved settings (but that didn’t eliminate key binds, so at least some stuff seems to be stored server side). Is there any fix to this?

I do not have the same problem on my Asura. Or human. Or sylvari. I don’t have a Charr, but… just the problem on the Norn.

Isn’t the “Leather” armor in the PvP chest the stuff that leatherworkers craft in the first 25-50 levels?

It really depends on which “leather” set you’re referring to in the PvP locker, since there is more than one.

It’s easier to work with screen shots than try to describe things, so I made a quick comparison of the armors discussed in this thread:
http://i.imgur.com/9Z3sk.png

I believe there are only two sets in the PvP locker that are listed as just “leather” sets, though I may have missed one. Also, for reference, crafted armor sets for medium go Seeker (very first set, so 0 leatherworking required, though some varieties require 25 or 50 leatherworking), Outlaw (75-125), Noble (rare, 125), Leather (150) — with that last shown in the screen shot above. And… there are more, I’m sure, but my leatherworker is at 181 so I haven’t found the next sets quite yet.

Every time I walk into Queensdale, I take a quick peek through the caves. Some days it’s better than others, but I always have a frame rate reduction when going in there.

And almost every time, I see someone else mention “what the heck is up with my frame rate in the bandit caves?” Without me mentioning it, other people say the same thing I’ve said here — bomb stacking and particle effects and yay it’s laggy for all.

Are you looking for PvE or PvP armor?

I can’t tell you how to get the PvP armor, but for the PvE set, it’s named Duelist armor. There may be other variations, but my thief bought some Berserker Duelist armor that matched the appearance of the “leather” armor as the first set in the PvP locker. The armor I bought was level 70-something armor, transmuted onto lower level armor so that my thief can wear it.

It was reported as a bug on the forum about a month ago. No objection to more reports, though, as I can’t imagine that this would take long to fix.

Also, I did in fact confirm that the materials as listed are actually used to make the legs. So it’s not just a display glitch, it really does take a ridiculous amount of materials for the legs.

how does downleveling and gear work?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Nkuvu.2570

Nkuvu.2570

I’ve found that if there is a large gap between your equipped weapons level and your actual level, you will find things more challenging than they should be when you’re down scaled. I haven’t noticed anything with armor, so it may just be a DPS reduction.

Just searched the forum for downscale, and this thread popped up. Convenient, since it asks what I was going to ask.

What I have been noticing is that my characters are getting slaughtered in lower level zones, because I haven’t been keeping armor up to date. My level 46 warrior was wearing level 35 rare crafted items, for instance, and went back to Brisban Wildlands for completion. There was a group of bandits that dropped her to defeated faster than you can say “holy gee willikers, Batman, that’s a lot of damage taken.”

I went back to town, and bought more level-appropriate gear. I haven’t run into the same group of bandits again (that was for an event), but I do notice that I’m taking a lot less damage.

I still don’t know exactly how it works, but it seems to me like the armor is getting downscaled pretty significantly.

Merchants should sell area appropriate goods

in Suggestions

Posted by: Nkuvu.2570

Nkuvu.2570

For example — In Brisban Wildlands, the only ore in the entire region is iron, silver, or possibly copper. None of the merchants need to sell steel mining picks. Much less Darksteel picks.

The merchants should all have iron tools available, and maybe if they’re close to a portal to a higher level zone, steel tools. At most.

It’s a waste of coin to buy tools for much higher than the level area, and if I’m in the region I should still be able to find level appropriate tools. Brisban Wildlands is rated as a level 15-25 zone, and the Darksteel tools can’t even be equipped until level 30.

Alternate suggestion: If a merchant sells a given level of tool, also give that merchant all lower level tools as well. So all merchants that sell Darksteel would also have steel, iron and copper tools. Merchants in the cities have all tool levels available, so we already know that the full list isn’t too unwieldy.

Specifically, go to the Transfer Gate (Private) point of interest on the west side of the map, south of the reactor and north of the Anthill. Go into that cave, use the Asura gate at the back, and you’ll be back in the Inquest complex.

Though I also have to mention that yesterday the skill point at Durotl grounds (near Loch Jezt) was still broken, so map completion may not be obtainable. Unless you’ve done that skill point before, or they fixed it last night.

Bank or account vault?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Nkuvu.2570

Nkuvu.2570

There’s bank access from any crafting station, or NPCs typically found in the city. For low level characters it’s usually easiest to find the portal to the city — it’s always right near where you start (that is, as soon as you’re done with the tutorial section. If you fought a boss and you’re level two, that’s all the bit you need).

For instance, for humans the portal to Divinity’s Reach is right up the road from where you start after exiting the tutorial. For Asura it’s directly behind them. Typically you can see it from where you initially started. Then find the banker icon on the city map, and go there. Or find the crafting stations (note that it doesn’t matter at all if you have a crafting discipline, you can still use the stations for bank access).

For reference, there are also consumable items from the Digital Deluxe version or from the gem store that will allow bank access from anywhere in the world. Though in general I haven’t had much of a need for these myself, it’s very easy to find access otherwise.

Once at the bank, there are two tabs (crafting stations have an additional two tabs for crafting). One is a general place for shared storage, the other is the “collectibles” tab with a specific spot for items like copper ore and green wood logs and so forth. Note that on the general tab, you can deposit money for other characters to withdraw, and you can purchase additional tabs for general storage by double clicking the lock at the bottom right — purchase with gems (which can be obtained through real world money or converting in game gold to gems, press O for the interface to that).

…probably more information than you ever needed. Also vague on direction, but if you still can’t find the bank mention which race your character is and more specifics can be given.

Turrets in sylvari tutorial?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Nkuvu.2570

Nkuvu.2570

I’ve seen this as well. The last time I made a Sylvari, the engineer was level 40, and did not respond to my chat. I can’t even begin to calculate how long it took to get to that level just in the Dream, the hounds do not give a significant amount of experience.

The engineer in question likes to hide off to the side, and presumably go AFK while the turrets kill the repeated spawns endlessly.

ArenaNet-sanctioned botting, apparently, since engineer turrets let you play the game while nowhere near the keyboard.

As mentioned previously, though, when I didn’t want to wait for that I just played with gamma settings.

But there are never ending waves of Inquest at the front door, so if you’re looking for that then… yay?

(p.s. Almost positive that this bug has been reported before on the forum, but the search turned up nothing for “LUM009”, “golem”, and only one result for “Metrica”)

Quaggan Pastkeeper stole my money

Nkuvu.2570

After an event in Gendarran Fields, defending the Mellaggan Shrine from pirates, the quaggan Pastkeeper became a merchant. For sale: Jellyfish tonic, at 2 silver apiece plus a few copper. I thought “this will be fun to mess around with” and clicked buy five or six times.

1. There’s no indication that you don’t actually get a tonic. You’re immediately transformed into a jellyfish, hope you meant now. This is unlike every other transformation tonic I’ve seen so far, a bit of warning would be nice.

2. After consuming the first, I got several error messages “You cannot use this item while transformed.” But I still got to pay the 2 silver plus change for each time I clicked. I got one tonic, paid more than 10 silver for it.

I really wouldn’t mind the first item, if I’d known about it. The second item is more problematic, even if 10 silver won’t be much in the long run.

Missing cooking items from Discovery menu?

Nkuvu.2570

It’s likely that you know all recipes that can be discovered with just salt.

You can double check with sites like Guildhead, but keep in mind that seasoning and ingredients (like “Bowl of Baker’s Dry Ingredients”) are automatically learned at the appropriate level and won’t be part of the discovery. Any recipe that is purchased from a karma vendor won’t be discoverable either. So even if a listed recipe calls for salt, it may be purchased and therefore salt won’t show up in the discovery pane.

If there are still recipes shown with salt that you don’t know and don’t fit into the categories above, I’d call that a bug and worthy of a bug report.

Can we allow players to rearrange the order of their weaponskills?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Nkuvu.2570

Nkuvu.2570

I would support this.

I would expect that you would only be able to rearrange skills once all are unlocked for that weapon set. For instance, you would not be able to swap locked skill 5 with locked skill 2 as soon as you create your character. This would keep it so that you unlock the skills in a particular order — and many people would be fine with keeping that default.

Once they’re all unlocked, though, let players rearrange to personal preference. Per character.

My necromancer nearly soloed the champion krait in Caledon Forest (in the north east corner by the skill point). I say “nearly” only because other people joined in after I had already brought it down to about 40% health. It took a long time, but kiting and bleeds were enough. The krait was just swimming in circles with me, bleeding all the while.

I’m positive that I could have finished it off alone, but it definitely went faster once others joined in.

On the flip side, the champion troll in Queensdale is fast. I don’t think I’d be able to kite him for very long before he just ran over and hit me upside the head.

Researcher Orl moves around. If he’s standing at the inner (closed) door, you should be able to use the crystal on the imprint lock. If he’s standing at the outer (open) door, you won’t be able to interact with the lock, even though Orl says you should.

I don’t know what triggers them to move inside, however.

Note that once the inner door is open, a new event appears to protect Orl and his team. I’ve never seen that one succeed. Even when Orl was protected fully, it seems he chickens out and runs away. That part may be bugged as well.

With all of the above in mind, and the fact that the energy crystal is not a one-time drop (I have one character with two of them), I wouldn’t worry too much about holding on to the crystals.

I’d love to have more options that aren’t (surprise!) coats. I want armor where her tattoos are visible, meaning exposed shoulders. There are a handful of those, but they also have long skirts that go with it.

I would definitely be in favor of more variety in medium armor. I’d like more revealing armor for classes that wear medium armor, if only to be in line with the light and heavy classes as well.

Edit: Forgot to mention Krytan. Both my ranger and engineer are currently wearing Krytan, and my thief is wearing Duelist. So for the moment I do have non-coat armor sets for my medium armor wearers, but I have almost no alternative armor sets… until I can afford the very expensive tier 3 cultural armor.

Engineer Turret preventing the killing of wurms for a task

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Nkuvu.2570

Nkuvu.2570

@Nkuvu Being an engineer myself, I do know what you mean, but I am pretty sure this is not the case here. A starting engineer would not have a turret with them, and engineers helping others or going for world completion are prolly starting with this heart and then move on.

Yeah, I agree that around the farm in Shaemoor, the turrets are probably placed there intentionally, for the same reasons you mentioned.

Probably. There is an event at the farm with a wurm queen, and the extra damage there from a rifle turret would be helpful. And for much of the rest of the zone, most of the time my engineer wouldn’t need to drop a turret down, so it may have simply been neglected.

But I also don’t want people to immediately see a turret placed somewhere and think “that engineer is griefing my game play!” It’s not always the case.

Edit: Just started a new Sylvari. There was a level 40 engineer in the Dream, with turrets placed all over, killing everything before I had a chance to touch anything. The engineer was off to the edge, almost outside the area of the tutorial, clearly in an attempt to avoid attention. This kind of garbage is exactly why I think turrets should self destroy after a few minutes out of range — the engineer was utterly silent (most likely AFK) and yet still gaining experience from killing the hounds. This is playing the game while you’re not even there, and it’s not even using a third party program.

In this case, it meant that I got to fight the dragon with just a basic attack and a heal, because I couldn’t unlock anything else before the turrets killed my target. Annoying. Thanks AFK engineer! I hate you (well, maybe hate is a little strong, but there is certainly a lack of love).

I’ve left a turret behind before. Entirely unintentionally, I thought I’d destroyed it. Only realized when I got experience while jumping around trying to get to a vista.

I’ve seen turrets placed near common dynamic events, with no nearby players (engineer or otherwise). Malice? Ignorance? Who knows? And it doesn’t really matter. There’s no reason an engineer should be able to leave a turret behind to kill things when the actual character is nowhere near the area.

I’d be fully in agreement with changing it so that turrets self-destruct after a short time if the engineer goes out of range.

Alternatively, you can grab the resize grippy thing in the corner of the window. Pull that down far enough, and the minimap will jump back down to the lower corner.

My thief transmuted the duelist armor (that exact set you’re talking about) onto lower level armor. What I found to work was using a low level armor piece that had runes. For my thief at level 30, this was a coat with some runes of Melandru. For a blue quality item, I’d get that “stat item” error.

For a blue quality item, my guess is that the transmutation threw out an error when trying to upgrade a piece that didn’t have runes, with a high level piece that did. When the low level piece had runes I could choose, it was fine with discarding the high level upgrade. If that makes any sense.

In the Hidden Lake, at the Seraph Observers Waypoint, there are a handful of NPCs (including a merchant). There’s an event to defend the small camp from incoming bandits, but that event is not currently active.

But the waves of bandits keep rolling in. The camp is never safe, the merchant is often dead, and completing the renown heart for the area simply requires standing pretty much in one spot as the bandits come to you.

Though I have to say that I’m honestly surprised there are no bots farming the “event.” Maybe it’s too high level for them to get to easily. Or something.

This event has been stuck in this state every single time I’ve visited the area, but I’m not seeing a bug report (searched for the obvious “Seraph Observer” and “Brisban”, apologies if I simply overlooked something).

Starting Areas

Nkuvu.2570

Easy to get to any starting area.

From where you started as a human, go up the road to the portal into Divinity’s Reach. Go straight down the road until you see some “elevators” to the upper level. Go into the central area of the upper level and you’ll be able to find the Asura gate to Lion’s Arch — note that the gate is marked on your map as a purple dot.

Once you get to Lion’s Arch, choose where you want to go. All of the gates to the other racial capitals are in a cluster, and they’re guarded by members of that race. So the gate back to Divinity’s Reach is guarded by humans, the gate to Rata Sum is guarded by Asura, and so on. Once you get close enough to each gate it’ll also have a label, but guards are easier to see from a distance.

Then find your way to the starting area, depending on the city. Asura: Metrica Province, the south east cluster of gates on the same level as where you came in. Charr: To the east, region named Plains of Ashford. Norn: Cross the city to the east gate, exiting to Wayfarer Hills. Sylvari: Go to the north portal on the same level as the one you arrive on, and exit to Caledon Forest.

Personal Story and lots of deaths...

in Personal Story

Posted by: Nkuvu.2570

Nkuvu.2570

I wanted to revisit this thread to add a few more thoughts.

I’ve been playing some temporary characters just to see the personal story lines. Latest versions were for Norn — the Lost Heirloom quest “Rumors of Trouble” and the earlier quest chains for the “Guard the Mists” as well as “Honor the Spirits.” I have been playing a warrior through these quest lines simply because it’s a class I enjoy.

For the quest “Minotaur Rampant” as the level 10 Honor the Spirits, I had no idea what to do when walking in. Just to be safe, here’s a spoiler tag for that quest. I attacked Vidkun right at the beginning. I didn't really have any problems with him, even though his Champion status made me wary at first. I "defeated" Vidkun, only to find that I needed to attack the dragon beast first. All right. So I did that. Again, I didn't have significant issues, Vidkun chilled me frequently so it was a bit annoying to chase after the beast when it charged past, but no real health issues. Defeated beast, defeated Vidkun again, profit!

For the quest “Rumors of Trouble” for the level 11 Lost an Heirloom… well, more spoilers. My warrior did the quest first. I had this quest active on my engineer, but my engineer hasn't been defeated yet (level 41) and after reading all the comments on the quest difficulty, wasn't too keen to rush in without knowing what to expect. Varg arrived, summoned ice imps... and it was no big deal. All the comments I'd seen mentioned the insane damage that the imps do, but it appears that they have been toned down. I went in with my engineer, and set up turrets before even speaking to Krennak the Short. When Varg summoned imps, it was rather easy. Did have a bit of an issue seeing red rings of icy doom on the snow, but I blame partial color blindness for that. Pale reds and greens are hard for me to see. Still prevailed, however, without the corpse rushing that so many have described.

TL;DR: I’ve done a number of the quests that have been described as overly problematic, and it seems like they’ve been reduced in difficulty. Much easier than my earlier experiences with similar level quests — though to be 100% sure I may have to make a character to run through those again. So this is just a note to say hooray. I don’t mind a challenge, but the earlier difficulty seemed to be too much (and I can easily find challenges in other parts of the world, like the fire elemental in Metrica Province).

I haven’t done any transmutation since the patch, but from everything I’ve read it’s now simply un-equip the armor/weapon item, transmute, re-equip. Nothing difficult or complicated.

Granted if this process isn’t working properly that’s a bug. But it still doesn’t defeat the purpose of the stones.

Well, no. But I wouldn’t put it past them for an early version. Nowadays, however, they have Steam weapons.

Can’t help with recipe, but you can buy the full Devout set from a vendor in Rata Sum. Tailor Pibb, lowest level near the Inquest section (the closest waypoint is Auxiliary Waypoint).

I don’t know the name of the armor in PvE, but I am pretty sure the set in question is Heavy Plate armor in PvP: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_Heavy_Plate_armor

Possible to see zone completion when not in a zone?

in Players Helping Players

Not that I’m aware of.

Personally I’ve been keeping a spreadsheet with a list of zones, and my characters. Check off each zone as I complete it. I find it rather tedious to check zones — even if we’re not considering money. For instance, checking 8 alts to see if they’ve completed all 6 cities costs no coin, but would take a large chunk of time.

I do occasionally check the map from somewhere else. I might look at the Queensdale map while standing in Lion’s Arch. Most of the time I can get a good idea of whether or not the zone is complete (particularly if there are obvious missing things like unfilled hearts or skill points or unexplored areas). But that’s the closest I’ve found to checking outside the region.

Please check event spawn rates in Ashford

A few days ago, I completed Plains of Ashford on my mesmer. Two events failed simply due to the players being massively outnumbered, but I didn’t get any screen shots or have anything more specific than waypoints. This is also after my necromancer got swamped with enemies defending a pair of Ash Legion tents. That is, at least three events with ridiculous numbers of enemies.

Today I participated in one of the same events, this time on my engineer. The event failed, of course, because there were far (far) too many enemies for the number of players in the area.

I managed to get just one screen shot of today’s dynamic event in question (with all other player names blanked just to make sure I don’t violate any forum rules):

There are just three players in the area completing the event. In this shot, there are twelve separatists alive. Not pictured — and you can take my word for it or not — there is another wave of a half dozen separatists off to my left.

We had no chance of completing this successfully. Too many to fight, and the saboteurs had very large health pools even if there weren’t dozens of other enemies trying to kill us.

I’m fine with a challenging game, but many of the events in the Plains of Ashford tend to be zerg rushes with extra zergs and a side order of zergs. Please take a bit of time to verify that this is working properly, because it seems far different than any other dynamic events I’ve attended in similar level zones.

Kraitbane Haven (Caledon) Skill Challenge

Below water. All the way at the bottom, actually.

Beware, there’s a champion krait that sometimes appears in the area, and you’ll want a group to help clear him out before you try for the skill point. (of course if the champion isn’t there you simply have to deal with the rest of the krait swimming around)

What has happened to the Lemon vendors???

in Players Helping Players

The heart NPCs are the vendors. So the only hearts you have to do are the ones for that specific area.

For instance, in Metrica Province you need to “Help Brill Alliance study the skritt.” Then talk to Researcher Hrappa and ask what she is offering. Poof! Lemons in bulk, available for karma.

You may have done this already, just making sure it’s all clear. If this is still not working for you, it sounds like something is broken. I’d suggest a screen shot and/or contacting support for a resolution.

are knockdown mechanics excessive?

So far, I’ve had just two issues with knockback being severely problematic.

One, with a group of centaurs attacking the Earthworks in Kessex Hills, I had a nice chain of being on the ground. Get up, get knocked down again immediately. Get up, get knocked down immediately. Not very fun for melee classes (I ended up switching to my longbow on my warrior, but if there hadn’t been other players killing the centaurs too, I would have easily died).

And two, in the human personal story with the “I always wanted to join the circus” option. One of the golems had a knockback skill which threw me against the wall, then continued to do huge damage and throw me into the wall over and over and over and over again.

I don’t mind the interrupt once in a while, but the chained interrupts that you can’t do anything about are something that I’d consider to be excessive. Knocked down once, zero chance to do anything until the game decides to stop stomping on your head.

On Tarnished Coast, the Hylek for the skill point in Loch Jezt is simply missing now. Not dead, certainly not working, but… yeah.

I know that the patch notes didn’t explicitly mention broken skill points, but I was really hoping that these would all have been fixed.

Can't get 100% of other races' starter areas

I haven’t yet completed Charr starting area, but for Sylvari, the single most common heart to overlook is the Ogham Wilds heart. I don’t use the scouts, personally, I’d rather find my own way — so I don’t know which scout would show it. But the heart is south of the skill challenge at the waterfall, with patrolling breeze riders. Fastest way to get there is to exit the Grove, and take a left rather than go straight ahead to Astorea.

I’d also recommend checking the wiki. I can’t paste the link into the edit box here (stupid forum), but search for “renown heart” and at the bottom of the page there’s a list of hearts by region.
