How did you accidentally buy Karma Armor of a different weight class than your own? You cannot accidentally buy it anymore because as soon as you click “Buy” it gives you a second dialog pop up that says “Your class cannot use this item are you sure you want to purchase it?”

Honestly, it was YOUR fault for not reading the warning dialog that pops up in a Different spot from the buy buy button on the UI. Its not even in the same play you literally have to move your mouse to accept the dialog.

This is NOT an ANet problem, its yours and your lack of reading, I am sorry but I don’t feel bad for you. Live and learn my friend.

This is not a large enough sample size to dictate really. I play mostly Guardian and I still roll in the Silk from doing my every day things.

When you do an experiment like this to determine if something is noticeable or not in the long run you would have to use something almost 100x the sample size and more than just one person doing it to even come close to being accurate about it. Also, RNG makes it even worse to be accurate with such a small sample size.

Map Completion provides additional Loots, EXP, and other things. Also completing the 100% gives you two of an item needed for legendaries. I highly doubt if they put a system like that in that they could navigate some characters sharing and some not. It would be terribly complicated.

So what is this company's focus?

Paradox.1380

Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet or not as I only skimmed the thread before work but Gem Store Items are designed and released by completely different teams than those working on the game. Its as with any company, different teams do different things at a different pace and generally they don’t always all intertwine with one another.

Think of it like a retail store, as an example at my work in the Apparel Dept. The Women’s section got their Fall Line in but the Men’s Section didn’t yet. That didn’t stop US from putting out our Fall Line while the Men’s Line had to wait an extra two weeks. Doesn’t mean the mens line wasn’t coming it was just delayed and my team doesn’t handle that so there was nothing we could do about it.

Also, there are those of us that have a strong suspicion that ANet IS working on some kind of expansion or big Content update, also new maps were datamined from yesterday’s update, you can reddit them if you want.

Grind.

Funny though for a game without grinding to get something you sure gotta do that frequently.

GW1 supposedly had no grind aswell..

HUGE difference in a Cosmetic Grind and a You Have To Do THIS thing 5000+ Times in order to get something that you MUST have in order to do certain content. GW Has a VERY tiny gear curve. Infinite Light is almost a Legendary because it requires a Gift of Light. You never, ever NEED Infinite Light. Its an Exotic.

Will we see a Halloween event this year?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paradox.1380

Paradox.1380

The problem with that line of thinking is they did add something every year for Halloween and Wintersday in GW1. They also kept things practically the same for those who did not experience the first time around (while adding new stuff). The two events that hardly did change was the Canthan New Year and Dragon Festival. Although they did add some new interesting free rewards almost every year.

But the events themselves were largely the same. Also, Year 1 to Year 2 Halloween was drastically different form itself. While year 1 and year 2 Wintersday was generally the same with some new rewards. I think that this year Halloween will be much like last year but of course a new reward or two and most likely bringing back ways to get some of the other rewards. Like the rare recipe weapon skins.

Truth be told we don’t know what will be the same or be different. All we can do is wait for it to come out.

Paradox.1380

The traits thread, SAB threads, megaserver threads and hobosacks thread (off the top of my head) are in need of attention.

That said, Gaile is trying to keep us informed as well as Chris.

SAB threads are what exactly? Anet said right now it’s not coming back, during this season of the living story. That’s all they’re going to say. There’s no need for more communication on this. If people don’t want to accept it, there’s nothing anyone can do. That’s the decision.

Megaservers are being worked on, we’ve even seen some changes recently to guild missions and they said they’re working on stuff for larger guilds. The mega server isn’t being repealed. It’s not happening. What is there to say?

Traits and hobosacks are legitimate ongoing issues. I can almost guarantee they’re working on traits. I guess they could come in every few days and say we’re still working on it, but programming takes time.

Hobosacks, no idea if they’re working on it or not. I suspect it’s low priority, though.

I don’t know why people think that we need someone to constantly come into threads saying we know about this and we’re looking into it. Things in big companies don’t get changed over night and programming takes time.

Anet should just hire this ^^^^ guy. He seems to think he has all the answers.

I don’t suspect I have all the answers or even most of them. But I’ll certainly call people out who claim to have them and probably don’t.

Yet your on every thread attacking in my opinion. Other peoples comments, thoughts, critiques, concerns,or what have you. You are not an Anet Dev stop trying to do there job and let others have there say. Let Anet do there job and answer or reply.
I’ve seen you post its a small percentage of people on these forums about what they like or complain about, and others simply play and enjoy the game. So I ask how much time are you playing and enjoying the game. From what I see very little as you take it upon yourself to read and “answer” most everything.

I have never seen Vayne attack ANYONE ever. In fact not but a week ago did he call me out for falling people haters. He level-headedly explained to m about how he thought that they were valid for being upset and expressing themselves.

Vayne a great dude with a nice head on his shoulders. We don’t always see eye to eye even in out collective love of the game and many of its practices. But, there is one thing for certain he is one of the last people to ever attack you.

Though, if you consider someone who offers a different opinion and explains with examples reasons for his thoughts on a subject as attacking, then I don’t know what to tell you. Keep on thinking he’s attacking people I guess?

Paradox.1380

Yeah, Anet should probably tell us more, but the fact is, every minute spent pacifying the forum (sometimes over very little) is another minute not doing something else.

Isn’t that why they have the forum GMs? All the devs would need to do is shoot an email to the forum GMs and then they could relay that info to us.

So the forum GMs have to stop and interupt the devs, how many times a day? It’s amazing that people think this is so simple. Like there’s one dev that knows everything, has already made every decision and we can just go to that guy. It doesn’t work like that.

If a decision has yet to be made, or they’re discussing a number of options NO DEV will know, because a decision haven’t been made.

So you’ll get a message as a dev from a community manager saying, “The people they’re really up in arms about traits, what do I tell them?”

That dev might go and say, no decision has been reached but we’re talking about it. So now, the forum guy says that. Doesn’t mollify the forums at all. Not even a little. Next day the forum is up in arms so the forum person goes back to the dev and says “Any decision yet.”

The dev says no.

But every time the dev has to go to his email to tell the forum guy we have no new info is time they’re breaking their chain of thought on what they’re working on.

There’s no real good reason to tell people you’re going to do something but you’re not sure what yet more than once.

Also lets not forget when a Dev is misinformed and accidently says something on the forums or in an interview. Like waht started the SAB thing when some WvW Devs got asked a question about stuff they only vaguely new about. Said something in the wrong way that indicated that SAB and Dungeons were never going to be worked on again. (That is NOT what they said, btw) But People take things and twist them around making them worse than if they’d said nothing at all.

Personally this whole situation is a kitten ed if you do, kitten ed if you don’t scenario for the Devs. If one person says the wrong thing the angered community crucifies the poor people.

And that is my biggest concern, we forget that the guys and gals making this wonderful game for us are JUST humans. And they also play this game as well. You don’t have to believe it if you don’t want to, but I know for a fact even some of the higher ups actually play in their free time (I have one on my friendslist). Just remember before you get the torches and pitchforks, they are human too. To Err is Human, and all humans make errors.

A company is just a big lump of humans, and any change that is made has to be looked at by several people before anything can even happen.

You know, it’s not just seeing people are unhappy and thinking about doing something about it. It’s about specifically what to do about it.

So Anet first makes an update and people are unhappy about it. About half the time that happens, most people see it’s not that bad after all, and the problem goes away…because it’s not. The story I remember a dev telling was when DOA was first released in Guild Wars 1 and everyone said it was too hard, it was impossible and there were almost universal calls to nerf it. Same happened with Triple Thread and Tequatl. Lots of calls to nerf. But the community got through it.

Anet has to wait to see the longer term reaction, before they decide there really is a problem and then, they have to determine what the problem actually is (because it’s not always clear) and then they have to decide what to do about it.

There will be meetings, discussions, and you know, everyone may not be in agreement. Some people may want to change things one way and some may want to change it another way. These differences have to be worked out.

Maybe the fans are asking for something that ultimately doesn’t fit into whatever else is being worked on. Maybe there are changes Anet is willing to make, but other changes have to be made first.

For example, we know Anet is working on something for altoholics, but we don’t know what it is. Maybe that thing will make other changes unnecessary and so there’s no reason to work on some of the complaints.

Yeah, Anet should probably tell us more, but the fact is, every minute spent pacifying the forum (sometimes over very little) is another minute not doing something else. There’s been more communication on the forum, a single thread gets deleted that was all over the place and suddenly people feel Anet isn’t communicating again?

The need for constant communication from developers here is really over the top.

Speaking of a story about the community in an uproar and ANet waiting it out. A Guild Wars 2 story I have is distinctly about the dungeons. Everyone I knew in my guilds and friendslists, etc. Complained and whined about how HARD the dungeons in the the game were when you got to the explorables. The called for nerfs and reworks. And even more it was “Too hard for no reward!”

ANet waited it out but did give us tweaks to the rewards making champs always drop 7-16 silvers.

A few months went by and once people started getting their exotics and we all learned the mechanics of the game (it still amuses me that Vets now say that the game is too easy as far as mechanics go, and complain about ANet changing it for new players not remembering the large portion of the start of the game when people had trouble learning it all) it was then and is no today considered “Too Easy!”

And that’s after several of the updates to it. Though I am glad now that they found a nice reward balance to difficulty.

“This Too, Shall Pass” my friends.

As someone with high anxieties all I can say is live and learn from it my friend. Just maybe avoid PvP if you cannot handle it. As someone with Anxiety you should know what you can and cannot handle. Taking ownership of your illness helps people generally understand it and deal with it. Please don’t use it as a crutch, it indirectly affects us all. I am sorry you have had a bad experience with it, but you also could have probably handled it better. You can leave ranked games you just get a Dishonorable Debuff that stops you from entering them in for awhile. Also, I hope you try again later. I never get harassed in Hot Join PvP if thats what you wanna do.

Also, going in games with a guild is even more fun, so try finding one of those. There is almost always someone Advertising in Map Chat of LA.

Triple Trouble need nerf or better scaling

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paradox.1380

The problem with this is it becomes a highly exclusive event to one instance, if you fail to get in that instance it’s play the “World is full” simulator till you can get some poor chap d/cing and nab their spot, or you are out.

Right now it’s impossible to get players to stay around on a non-main instance because they just give up and leave knowing it’s impossible to do thanks to the absolutely ridiculous scaling.

I 100% agree. I had to join TTS guild to do the achievements, then leave it – and doing the achievements is all it’s really worth doing – I’m still surprised so many people keep re-doing it. What a wacky and counter intuitive structure to a group event.

I wonder if the population of game play falls enough, will they change it then?

We do it because its fun. That is the reward. There doesn’t NEED to be a better reward. There are almost always over 200 people every. single. day. on TTS’ TS ready to do Wurm. Every day. We do it because its fun, because it challenging.

I don’t see this needing a nerf of any kind. Perhaps a different way to organize it a bit easier, Like guild spawned maps. but really I feel that it is fine the way it is for the most part.

This is my favorite challenge in the game and I wish there was more. I don’t need any more reward, the fun is the reward.

Also, Ascended gear IS needed to do high level fractals, so no its not trash.

Pretty much all of the “arcs” or the intervals at each 10 levels are all encompassing stories in of themselves that tie in loosely to the bigger picture.

The First Ten level one deals with an entirely different story than the 20 one. So one and so forth. It isn’t until the later levels that the chapters intertwine. That’s, what I believe, was the reason for putting each story arc at the end step levels.

I’m sure it was sad somewhere on the first page, but Gemstore Updates happen around the same time as regular updates to the game on Tuesdays. But even when there is NOT a patch they often have a new sale or new gemstore items.

I believe a different team works on Gemstore stuff than works on the game itself. They are NOT one in the same and QQing about what happens with one part of a game and not another is silly.

Also, they almost ALWAYS have new sales on Fridays, sometimes free stuff (like all this week).

Haters are going to continue to hate. But for the vast majority that this was just a shocking thing. I am glad to see it FINALLY calming down, and I am actually honored that ANet took the development time to sit back, rethink something on the fly and tweak it as needed. Generally I think the NPE is an all around good and I am very happy to see all of the “Account” unlocks now working properly and that new things were added making it ever-easier to continue being my alt-o-holic self. Not that I ever intended to stop Its just nice that its more smooth now.

I usually agree with what you say, but I really don’t like using the word “haters” to describe people who don’t like the game. It’s no better than them trying to dismiss our opinion by calling us white knights. People hate this game for a reason, and often it’s a legitimate reason to them.

In general, though, I think most of the population will be mollified by these changes, and those who aren’t probably didn’t like the game’s direction that much to begin with.

Hmm. a little tit for tat never hurt anyone? And I wasn’t generally directing that at any person just a general statement about someone who said the “people that hate the topic will take it over.” I was simply voicing my opinion the subject. There are people that Actually hate the content, and then there are “haters” (as I call them) who just want to cause problems, stir up things, and generally bait people who may not necessarily speak their minds against them.

Then again, I didn’t write it to offend anyone, but if they are offended by me calling them haters, sorry, not sorry. It’s actually how I feel. Even the most legitimate reasons for disliking something annoy me when its tossed around in anger. I commend people who dislike something when they say it in a good way and I rather detest people who blindly hate things and give no valid solutions otherwise.

Did ever occur to you that some of these problems are really really old problems and that the solutions these so called “haters” have given time and time again have fallen on deaf ears when they decided to make the suggestions folder an archive? Meanwhile here in the general forums every new suggestion is a rehashed one of something someone already said in the suggestions folder over and over again ad nauseum.

Vayne, kinda got what I meant by what I said… But I wanted to elaborate on what I mean by “hater.”

My definition of a hater is someone who blindly hates anything and everything done to change. And then when in this case ANet changes something to try to meet a middle ground its met with “Well it should have been this way from the start!” or “It’s not good enough you didn’t give me Exactly what I want.” Or the go on rants about things they hate, but don’t offer anything as a solution to what they want, and the blatantly ignore the stickied post about how to leave good feedback.

And furthermore what I meant was in that many instances where people, instead of trying it out themselves, took to video and kept rehashing the same things over and over again as “unacceptable ANET!” when a good majority of it wasn’t true. Then when someone like me comes out who went out and purposefully tried it out, tells them the opposite and offers them the proof. I am then attacked (or completely ignored while they continue to rant against any logical thought), because I am a “White Knight” or a “Fan Girl” who follows every word of ANet like its law.

This is not true and yah, I’ll admit reading some posts in this thread I’m a little miffed. Sorry I lost my white knight cloak for a moment.. I’ll remember not to next time =/

I generally support the game this is true because I have somewhat of the same viewpoints as they do on things. I don’t know. But, I understand not everyone is going to think like me. Doesn’t mean I’m not human and can’t get agitated at out right ignorance or attacks.

why a gamer should care bout how easy or not easy it is to make a good game?

a gamer dont make the game he buy it and he play it and when game is not fun he delete it

its that simple

Yep. A gamer shouldn’t care. Still missing my point.

I’m playing Guild Wars 2 for two years. Two years later, Guild Wars 2 is still in the top 20 in Raptr and the top ten in Overwolf. 2 years. Evidence they’ve made a good game, because if it were a bad game, we wouldn’t be in the top 20.

After all ESO and Wildstar are much newer and they’re not. Therefore the game must at least be good. Or why would people still be playing it. It may not be to everyone’s taste. That’s another story. But the odds are if it weren’t a good game, it wouldn’t be in the top 20.

Now it could be a better game, true. So can every game.

this list is not top 20 games – its a top 20 played by raptr comunity (they even write this in the post – just scroll down a bit)
its same with overwolf – most games dont have a use for this and so its normal that games which have a strong supourt for this are high (and yes the api and how wvw works strongly supourts overwolf)

there are other sites out where you can get a feel whats played by ALL GAMERS and are not so biased

just go twitch and check the streams by streams/viewers and you get a feel what GAMERS play or care about
http://www.twitch.tv/directory
and scroll down – and for me this looks much more acurat

but anway – move on

Overwolf’s support of Guild Wars 2 is rather new, but it’s been high on the Overwolf rankings for a long time.

I know it’s really hard to admit that a game you don’t like is doing well. But Guild Wars 2 is doing well. Not only from lists, but from financial reports. It’s meeting expectations, or we’d hear about it from stock companies.

But, but Vayne! Didn’t you read that one thread that looked at NCSofts Financials that claimed 100million in a year was a sign the game was dying!? =O It’s Dying Vayne and there is nothing we can do about it.

We must hang up our White Knight Cloaks and Mourn the loss =(.

LMAO! People have been saying the game is dying from the first November. Five years from now, people will still be saying it. It’s always the same on every MMO forum. If you don’t like the game it’s dying. If you like the game it’s doing well.

The truth is usually somewhere in the middle.

That is the truth, my dear! I just wanted to make you laugh.

On a side note another MMO I play just celebrated it 6th year Anniversary and someone made a thread on its forums linking the very first “Game is dying” thread that was made a month after the game launched in the US. Then subsequently there was about 40 more posts linking similar threads that had been made throughout the years. It was a very amusing laugh I must day.

On Topic: I find that this year while “lacking” in quantity of update.. delivered supremely in quality of update and i will take that over anything else, tbh. Plus I loved some of the revamps they did to the “rehashed” content.

a gamer dont make the game he buy it and he play it and when game is not fun he delete it

its that simple

2014 most lackluster year for gw2

Paradox.1380

I just want to point out that LAST year was the first year of the game. Of course there is going to be “MORE STUFF” in the first year. All the stuff they wanted but couldn’t get in at launch, etc. QoL fixes and updates stuff like that.

Also a lot of the first year “Rehash” as people call it happen in every game. They design certain events to happen yearly and without change. To me, there is nothing at all wrong with that. The first year it was all new and exciting because.. it was new. Bringing back an event is still content even if its not NEW content.

Also, we had a launch in another country a very big undertaking for any game. You either like it or you don’t. New content comes when it comes. Why are you so needy? How many hours have you put into the game that you’ve experienced everything? I have almost 3k hours and I’m not done with all the stuff I wanna do yet. Even further from all the stuff there actually IS to do.

Well, sites usually post numbers when they’re good. Not saying that necessarily makes GW2’s bad but I keep an eye on the Xfire numbers from time to time and they have dropped by a lot as with posters on GW2 Guru. They blame circular threads (?).

One of the main reasons (I personally believe) why people stop posting on Guru is because that forum is even MORE toxic than this one and they don’t have the same level of moderation as here.

I don’t know anything about Xfire so I can’t comment on that. But also, most games like THIS do not post their numbers ever, and when they do mention it they almost always put it in ballpark generic figures.

NPE Feedback [Merged] - Please read 1st post

Paradox.1380

I’ve leveled 2 characters with the NPE to 30 and here is my feedback:

Things I loved:

  • Skill Unlocking – I love that its level based and I don’t have to hunt down every weapon every character and then proceed to kill monsters over and over to unlock the skills I want. It’s all done by level 10 and as someone from an Alt perspective I like this.
  • Level Pacing – Now that you fixed the slump there in the 20s (especially level 29; thanks BTW), I love the new pacing. Being able to complete one zone and actually be able to hit the next zone is lovely.
  • New Reward Structure – Love everything about this. It is exciting to level up.

Things that were weird that I didn’t like:

  • Bundles Disabled – Not a big deal and I understand it, but Diving goggles? Please allow us to at least use those.
*No Skill Points on Level Up – Not even after 30. I have to wait until certain levels for a cluster of Skill Points to play around with once I’ve unlocked the utilities. This is strange and counter intuitive for me.

Anyone started collecting spoons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paradox.1380

I think the overall idea is excellent, but some of the achievements baffle me. Collect 25 junk items for eg. Then you bin them. That’s just something shoved in to bump up the number of collections in the list. Collect all dragon jade weapons…but no others. Collect all craftable armour skins…just lacks vision and purpose.

These are minor criticisms, but they feel almost like something put in to gauge reaction to the idea, rather than wholeheartedly committing to something which is in fact a really good concept.

The potential is fantastic – especially if they use them to fully explore the world a bit more and reward appropriately for the time invested.

All the black Lion Ticket weapons have collections, they are just “hidden” until you have at least one of them. So that just means that you only have a Jade weapon(s).

An ex-girlfriend used to collect spoons. Everywhere we went on vacation she’d look for a spoon to bring back. Shrugs.

One man’s junk is another’s treasure.

My late grandmother collected Spoons from all the places she’d been. Many of them are quiet ornate and beautiful. In fact they have become one of my most treasured things since she passed. Because every time I look at them I remember the memories not the item.

A lot of collecting is for this reason (at least in my family) We collect things for the memories. I Already do this in game. now I get AP and rewards (i find many of the rewards rather useful) for it on top of the memories.

Not EVERYTHING has to be a checklist people. Remember: Just because you don’t see its value doesn’t mean that someone else doesn’t.

Leveling gear is new recipes (I think its recipes) put in the game for people who have already got high level characters. They are designed to aid in leveling alts and most are of Exotic quality and have better stat numbers than those of equal level gear you can find out in the world.

At least that is my understanding of it.

Same with crafting. I only got 2 level from doing armorsmith 1 to 400 at lv 26.

That’s odd, because I tested crafting the other day and got the Right amount of EXP all the way to level 28.

On another note I just hit 29 and went from normal EXP gain to significantly reduced. Got two bars worth to make sure my test was good enough, then used a Tome to level up, and immediately started gaining normal EXP again at 30.

What an odd bug.

Paradox.1380

I just wonder if a dev will recognize this, and be awe struck that someone else, not a dev, came up with this design, or just shrug it off, and be like “eh, ours is better”.

I think it’s a compliment to the devs that did the original design. This guy simply took what was already there, and made it more user friendly.

And like Chris Whiteside said in the CDI – Guilds – Logistics and QoL thread:

“Please note this is not a competition, either between yourselves or the developers in regard to one up man ship. The point of this Initiative is to work together to make the game better.”

And this would make the game better. At least imo.

ANet has a good habit of recognizing peoples work and not shrug it off. our LFG system in game is an almost direct port from an old external website we used to use. And from what I know through various threads about it the creators of said tool was consulted or at least spoken to about it.

Paradox.1380

Hey there. Playing for the first time in a very long time (over a year, minus a holiday or two), due to leveling changes. I still have my old 80 (created on the first day of GW2), but I’m starting over.

I like it better, so far. I’m hoping I’ll get direction to head to the city at some point, as I feel that’s lacking, and I really wish you offered a clearer understanding of the skill point achievements rather than “come back later”. It took me awhile to understand that was because I don’t have any skill points just yet.

Otherwise, I enjoyed creating my sylvan guardian – we’ll see how long I keep it up. gating the exploration points was a weird idea, though.

I’m not a WvW person. I want more Personal Story, and I want to see much more done with our housing area, as the backpedaling from what the company talked about during beta was very disappointing for someone who wants a unique experience.

Folks who think people who don’t raid or PvP are “casual” can go suck an egg – I did my time in WoW, I want something different (and unique) to play.

Thanks again for giving me a reason to come back.

The Personal Story will take you into the city. I think it is the level 20 episode that will.

Level 10 PS should take you to your home instance at least once depending on the story arc you chose. My Mesmer went twice for the Norn Story I picked. My Sylvari Ranger went 1 time to hers in the line I picked (maybe twice as well I might be forgetting a step)

Level 20 starts out in the home instance from what I can recall.

Well D3 is the largest ARPG on teh market with well over 3 Million copies sold? I dont’ assume anything I was simply making a point that GW2 is NOT the only game with problems, its not the only AAA title with problems.

I never said it was right, but that’s just the way it is and there is almost nothing they can do to fix it. The fact of the matter is you CANNOT possibly test for the live environment enough to stop any bugs (big or small) from making it into the live patch. Its just not possible. All they can do is hunt the bugs and fix them after they’ve happened.

Maybe someday a company will come up with a way to make all things technology/code related ship without bugs.. but until that day why should I complain about bugs? At least they are aware they exist and are working on them. You can ask for more all you like but its simply not plausible.

If the stance you want to take on this issue is that ANet it’s literally not the worst, then that’s up to you.

I maintain that ANet has a big problem with QA and that it absolutely can do better, quite a bit better.

I have no expectation of eliminating every bug. I do have an expectation for the list of bugs and unintended functionality introduced every patch to be smaller than the patch list. (and yes this is a slight exaggeration)

Uhm, but they are under No obligation to do this for you.

I don’t know what to tell you personal experience is just that; personal. and I personally have seen worse and to be honest I expect bugs and I am never surprised when I come across them.
