They were very quick to remove the free skins that you could get during the 2012 Halloween.

what free skins from 2012 could you get? I remember no free skins.

The only thing I remember was the temporary skins you could buy from a merchant for some silvers. They only lasted a few minutes.

Everything else costed some kind of cost.

You could get the very rare black lion chest ones (Greatsaw, Ghasty Shield, etc), or you could get the ones you made form very expensive recipes (The Crossing, Moon Shield, etc). You can still get and make all the stuff for these. I just got The Crossing last week.

Those were the weapon skins I remember.

In some Asian cultures China specifically here (looking at a Wiki Article on Asian Etiquette): Showing of bones is deemed as being disrespectful to ancestors at a culture-wide level and thus is unlawful to be shown in video games, movies, and many more things. Its about respecting the dead/elders near as I can tell.

It’s a cultural thing and important to respect.

I am not positive but the person that I seen had it in LA told me when I asked that they got it from the Exotic Trick or Treat Champion bag from the Legendary Monsters.

You mean people are actually killing the champs? I’ve been in the Labyrinth for the past 2 hours and seen all of maybe 6 other people total, all just running around doing small door events while fleeing in terror every time the Labyrinthine Horror comes around. I’m rather surprised honestly, day 1 and already deserted? Figured people would be down doing achieves at the very least. Especially if there’s exclusive loot from the legendary bags.

You can use LFG for Taxi Groups for full Zergs. I dunno I spent 4 hours in the Lab with my guild and we had a big Zerg of us we killed all the things in our way.

Ok, guys. Some of you are unhappy about this change, I can see that. BUT… quite honestly, most of you are sort of (I hate to use the word) ranting (sorry!) instead of offering suggestions.

I assure you, the team leader told me not 15 minutes ago, they will listen to suggestions.

  • Does that mean you get everything you want? Probably not.
  • Does that mean you should suggest something? Yes, of course! Because they’re expecting player input.

So you want lower increments? Think it through and present a suggestion! You want XYZ in the interface? Post that idea. You would rather see something else? Post what you think about that other thing. Please don’t get into the whole “I’m going to kick the devs and their little dogs, too” because it’s not doing you or us any good at all.

I’m not here to apologize. I’m here to communicate and right now, the communication is coming in without a whole lot of substance. Over to you for suggestions and constructive input!

I posted my suggestion in this several times on the thread. I am not ranting, nor do I dislike the new system. I actually like being able to see what it costs ballpark for a set amount of gems rather than playing with numbers and guessing.

HOWEVER, I Would LOVE lower denominations ie: 100gems, 350 gems (2xblack lion Keys anyone?), 500, 700, etc. I would love if they increments were more in line to the denominations of things you can buy from the gemstore so that I don’t have to over buy gems to get the thing I want.

For example, I really want the new outfit for my secondary account, I have 400 gems left over from a 25$ purchase last week. I need 300 more gems to get the outfit sent to my other account. However I would have to buy 400 gems at the current exchange rate. Thus I am left with 100 left over gems. I don’t want to have to have the left over gems just sitting there. I balance out my purchasing with gold and purchasing with real money and I would love to keep doing so.

Thank you for your time.

Are folks finally understanding how important mix ‘n’ match is to people? %#@*&~! Outfits!

Its not that its NOT important to people. I believe they know it is. The problem is a technical limitation that prevents them from doing it. Outfits replace parts of your model so you can wear them in combat as a set.

Now that’s just downright not true. There is an oversight in the preview window that lets you see a headpiece with the Ancestral Outfit. Preview the Ancestral outfit from the bank, and toggle the visibility of your headpiece off and on. This works with the reading glasses at least.
This seems to happen because that outfit lacks a head part, but because of that it’s definitely not impossible to have this as a feature on any outfit with just some very minor model changes.

I have no personal opinion of the matter. I am simply stating what ANet has said is the reason behind the choice.

so you guys really think this is an ok way to deal with these skins?

just to clarify, you can purchase, with irl cash, tickets for a raffle for these skins. this is ok? this isnt a p2w approach?

Its not Pay to Win it offers nothign but cosmetics. Also it is no more RNG than it was before. When they have ALWAYS been RnG, always. They came from Black Lion Chests and later from a special Mystic Forge Recipe to handle some abundance of Black Lion mats from the first year. Mystery Tonics I’m lookin’ At You!

so to me there is no difference between the two.

They were RNG when they first came out? What are you talking about. Only this time they are through a Little Skritt Event NPC instead of Black Lion Chests….

And the winners of the raffle get thousands of gold from the skins while the rest get nothing for their efforts. There is A LOT more on the line this time, not just a few skins. Worst case scenario would completely destroy the in-game economy and i wouldn’t be surprised at this point if it did happen.

I don’t agree with this at all… I don’t think it will ruin the economy at all. It might bring the prices down in a few but I don’t think it will ruin anything.

You realize that doesn’t make any sense right? It’s the matter of minutes to cut the texture/mesh into separate pieces to make it a regular armor set.

It makes perfect sense. They can’t do it because its not a meshing issue. Its how they built their models. The post above explains it much better than I can. But I understand it. Just because I don’t like it doesn’t mean I don’t get why it is the way it is.

Guild trying to Dominate events

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paradox.1380

I have come to the conclusion that you aren’t talking about TTS being that you said they pressured you to join them… that’s not a thing we at TTS do since we are literally only here for big events and sometimes a few of the guilds do missions. But for the record TTS’ TS is open to the public and is given out at every raid for those that are on the map to do the event with us but may not know our TS exists. You can come and hang out in TTS’ TS any time you want to. We encourage you to come in during events and the like to make it easier if there ARE map changes, etc.

If you don’t WANT to do something then don’t do it? I am confused about this whole premise it sounds like you are saying “I wanna participate but I don’t wanna follow their rules!!” No one is making you go anywhere and its the guilds discretion if they decide to move maps if one is just not working for them.

Map Completion isn't worth it...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paradox.1380

In the times of megaserver zergfarms filling up the most interesting events, map completion remains the sole fun activity of the GW2 open world.

I prefer the jumping puzzles, actually. Not for the rewards.
I don’t really find enjoyment in completing all hearts/vistas/skillpoints etc. over and over again though. Apparently it’s just me.

And therein lies your Hypocracy. There are a bunch of people who hate Jumping Puzzles and Platforming… and they would love a better reward for doing them (some you have to do for map completion also). But just because you like something but don’t like another thing doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with it.

I love Map completion how it is. The rewards are quite valuable for the effort you actually have to put in…

I would consider it Gambling if you didn’t always win something. Gambling means you can lose. You can’t lost with a Blacklion Chest. Because the items inside of it are almost all account bound except a very few and as such only have subjective value. Also you always get at least 3 things out of it… There is never a chance of not getting anything.

To the Raiding People

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paradox.1380

Paradox.1380

I was making comments about reading people in the other Raiding threads about whether Teq or Wurm are considered Raids. IN the community I am part of they are considered Raids (Massively Multiplayer Encounters). I consider them Raids because instead of the Trinity of Healers, TAnks and DPS… we have Wurm for instance where we have Condi Team, Reflect Team, Zerg Team. They all do different things in harmony with one another. To further that there is x3 each of those teams to tackle the wurm head on and get it down within the fail conditions. All Wurms gotta be decapitated at generally the same time what with the different tactics it takes to make the each head Vulnerable enough fora “Burn” phase. And after that happens within two minutes all teams have to kill the moving head of their respective Wurm before it fails. Teq is similar in that it has Zerg Team, Turret Team, Defense Teams. It also has Phases. ANet Underestimated the power of their playerbase when making Teq though and it is relatively easy. But so are BC Raids in WoW. These seem like Raids to me.

But, ANet has not come out and actually stated whether they to think these are Their Type of Raids. So it is a wait and see sort of thing.

My comment went on further to state that people shouldn’t get hung up on terminology of words like “Raid” because ANet will do ANet style whatever that may be and it almost certainly won’t be what people are thinking at this point.

is it why NO expansion?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paradox.1380

then they better stop the gw1 project and focus on gw2.

look ! i like the game.

i played since release. i join a guild starting with 100 of players. now only me and one more player still playing. so you can imagine how many player lost.

its been 2 yrs they should really think about have some big change. its not keep changing bit pieces.

just make the expansion, sell it and bring the player back.

wanted to point out a couple of things. The way guilds and loyalties work in this game is not like others. It is so easy to hope guilds, leave guilds, create guilds etc. That unless you have very active leadership the guild could go inactive very quickly.

I was in a large guild formed for the Living Story and two months after it was mad (we had all 500 people many times) the leader stopped repping and people started leaving. Last month the leader up and disbanded all together. That’s not to say people don’t quit or get busy, etc.

I am just saying that Guild Activity is not a good basis on whether or not the game is active. All games have an ebb and floe of playerbase and I see maps filled with people almost all the time. And Heck it doesn’t even take more than 5 minutes on off peak hours to fill most dungeon groups.

I find that it is hard to judge activity and liveliness in a game such as this, but its there teeming with players consuming the content, and I see new players all the time which to me speaks of a healthy environment. I only see it getting better from here now that we have much better systems for sustainability than we did at launch. These things take time, and ANet had some serious fixing to do. Now that its all in a rather good place, they can focus on expanding their world in whatever way they choose to deliver it to us, I will be pleased to see its growth.

Also let it be known that while ANet (I have never seen it) has never come out and said things like Teq and Wurm are Raids. Large guilds that farm them on the regular CALL them Raids already. I know we in TTS call them raids and another farming guild Attuned does as well at least in unofficial capacity.

So, while ANet may or may not consider those to be Raids, they most certainly are the closest we have to them at this stage, so try not to get hung up on terminology! Anet will almost 100% do Raiding in ANet Style.

Where's the story? (New Grindiness of PvE)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paradox.1380

Paradox.1380

In my opinion, everything is a story in this game. Even many events chain off each other if you follow the NPCs where they go and listen to their dialogue.

There is HOURS of story in dungeons if you take the time to read the dialogues or listen to the cut scenes.

There is TONS of NPC conversations all around the world as you wander about .. if you’re not running to your next destination.

Personal Story and Living Story are only two parts of many arcs of individualized snipits of lively story in this game.

Where is this grind fest you are talking about? I think you are misusing that word. At least not in the same context.

anet's lack of transparency

Paradox.1380

It strikes me as that place where your dad knows he’s lost but keeps driving ahead. This is Anet.

I recently re-installed and the TP was removed from Queensdale, uhm, why? Probably because the new TP layout is rubbish. Why is selling to bids the auto choice? This will lose new players money because they’ll assume that the game has their interests at heart.

Eg. New player get’s an exotic, bid of 1 copper is there…gratz new player you just lost a ton of gold.

Maybe I’m wrong but if I am it means the new TP is more confusing than the old one. You see my point? Lose lose, WD Anet, WD. Slow clap.

Look it up ion the forums the reason why the TP autos to Highest Bidder is because of overwhelming (a really big thread) on the forums complaining that it defaulted to the opposite when it was first released. In fact “Adjusted selling within the Trading Post so that the default is set to match the highest buyer instead of the lowest seller.” Taken Directly from the Patch Notes Update https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-September-9-2014/first#post4400022

That is why it defaults where it does. Because ANet listened to a large number of people.

I don’t block people for anything, but I find it isolating and rather rude to talk in another Language on the English servers most especially in guilds and Parties. I’ve had this happen to me a few times and It made me feel isolated from others because I couldn’t understand the language they were speaking and had no idea what they were talking about.

One time in a party though, they were going between English and Spanish… not realizing I could read/speak a good deal of Spanish myself they went on talking about ME. It was rude and that was a sad day and I think that’s a big reason why I dislike people speaking in a different language around me on an English server. I don’t know what they are saying and I can’t know every language there is.

Also, I don’t go into other languages and speak only English since I feel it is rude.

I don’t need to be bullied online, got enough of that in real life thank you much.

What’s the problem with gear inspection? Either you lied to get into the pug (and deserve to be kicked) or you have the gear they listed in the LFG and it will be fine.

That’s not what I am talking about and you know it. Its not about lying or having it. Its about having to “prove your mettle.” Its elitist, exclusionary, and isolating. It’s also intimidating to some. I have a problem with this behavior and I don’t like it. Especially in a game like there where really you can roll up with any gear (even greens) and do generally fine in a dungeon run.

As I already stated I don’t join groups that ask for certain gears unless I am just to tired to teach and even then I tend to shy away from anything asking for something specific out of principle.

They are not representing dungeon skills, and people will not let you join their party if you have low achievement.
So my idea is still better for you.

I have well over any amount of “required” AP for anything. No one would ever question my ability to ru na dungeon when using AP as the basis.

Fact is, however I make my own LFGs that take anyone of level appropriateness into my dungeon runs because I don’t take the approach that new people are inherently bad. We all had to learn.

People like me are teachers we help foster the Dungeon Community because that is what I do in this game (Fractals and Dungeons is 90% of my game time). I don’t want to see it become an elitist community so I take steps to prevent that. I would never want to isolate someone from doing something new. I want as many people as possible doing dungeons. The more they get run the more the data stacks up and maybe, just maybe ANet will some day add new dungeons for us all to enjoy.

And no, no it would NOT help anything to let someone see my achievements other than invade my privacy. I think its bad enough that anyone can see my AP as just a number inside the game. AP is not a determining factor to someone being very good.

In fact on my second account that was purchased and made not long ago, I have just under 2k AP, no one who doesn’t know me already would never know that I have another account with almost 4k hours and many many dungeon runs under my belt. I’ve been questioned before about my abilities on that account, and so I just left the party. I do not now, nor have I ever felt the need to “prove” myself for a dungeon run.

But, I have played many an MMO where the “inspect” function is a thing and I’ve seen first hand how much the negative attitude it fosters far out weighs not having to take someones word on something.

No thank you. This is almost as bad as want to be able to inspect peoples gear. All it does is create isolation and trolling. The good effects of it are not outweighed by the bad that comes with it.

Does ANET forcefully disband Guilds?

Paradox.1380

From what I know, ANet will just make you change the name. However I am not sure if that goes along with how Character Name Changes by ANet work where when you log in you simply have to change it in order to use it.

It is possible that ANet disbanded the guild for a name violation. But It’s also likely and possible that the leadership disbanded their guild.

raid ? in gw2 ? isn’t Teq and the 3-headed Wurm kinda raid content already ?

Open world raid content, yes they are. And I’d imagine more coming World Bosses will likely be done in the same manner, and they did at one point mention the idea of instanced content that could require more than 5 players.

I wouldn’t think that they would do it in a traditional sense though, so be cautionary with your excitement about it. They will likely go at it in a GW2’s style.

Regularly ordinary weapon update

They recently put in a whole set of new weapons to obtain. The Amberite set. Sure you have to “work” for it… I mean play the game but they are not at all hard to get.

I play the game on average 12-18 hours a week around a full time job.

I am nowhere near close to an Ambrite weapon. This is despite having spent nearly every LS release farming the crap out of Dry Top for at least 3 cycles a night. Currently I’ve been doing WvW since Dry Top doesn’t want me . . . I mean, Dry Top isn’t as productive with a night shift job leaving me midnight to 3am to play :P

I work myself and I barely play at all. RNG sucks like that but for the most part using keys to open the chests helps a lot in getting the items you need and after that its very cheap to craft.

Doesn’t take away the fact that what they are asking for is already there, maybe not in the exact way they want it, but it is there.

That may be true for that… but this is a kitten game that gives you a WARNING that you cannot use it on the class you are buying it on. It’s not in the same place as the buy button so haphazardly clicking won’t over ride it either.

I’m just saying that, the person made a mistake, and they should learn something from said mistake. It’s not ANets fault, and if they feel they can reimburse the items that’s good and a “whew” moment. But, ANet doesn’t HAVE to and it doesn’t give the user the rights to complain about it either. They put measures in place to try and ensure it doesn’t happen.

Your opinion vs. having a design philosophy that is forgiving/understanding of the human condition where we make mistakes.

I know which one I choose.

Not every mistake needs to be a lesson. Like you said, it’s a game. It isn’t a school classroom.

The design philosophy seems pretty forgiving to me. Yes everyone makes mistakes. I’ve done it myself a long time ago I bought a full set of Armor from the guy outside of Arah thinking it was all the same stats.

Boy was I sad about that, but I didn’t take the forums up in arms begging to be compensated. I wore the armor until I made enough karma to get it back.

I can even say that my mistake was more devastating to me then than it would be now, being that back then Karma was a very rare resource.

Furthermore, I am allowed as everyone else is to have an opinion on a discussion board. Just because my opinion doesn’t align with yours, doesn’t mean that it is any less valid.

And yes, I believe that every mistake is a learnable moment. Regardless of outcome (and I even said I wouldn’t condemn them if they were compensated) that they learn from it and know better next time.

But the sample sizes are so small that its almost impossible to tell how it will be affecting them in the long term which is what these changes are for, and mostly for leveling players to gear up as they level.

I for one play a couple rangers for the NPE one with a friend and one on my own, and for some reason I cannot for the life of my find a weapon drop that I can actually use on the one I play with my friend.

That’s why I say there would need to be a much bigger example and test done to determine whether it was RNG, a Fluke, or the actual Smart Loot system at work.

The biggest reason I say this is because lets face it, if you are going to criticize something you don’t know the inner workings of, you better test it like they do before you say something “doesn’t work.”

It’s impossible to test it like they do – we don’t have debug tools.

And I’ll admit it, I took part because it was something to do while completing events and doing my part in the Orr Deforestation Project at the same time. I’ve been playing for almost a month since 9/9 and the “Profession Loot” has yet to notably alter what I get.

But second confession – my definition of “notably” and someone else’s is almost guaranteed to differ.

Still waiting on that Leaf of Kudzu drop.

Thus why I made the first post I made on the thread about it. I didn’t place any kind of personal opinion on the matter, simply that it was not a big enough test to determine any real results other than personal feelings about it.

My post was mainly for people like me just reading the thread and thinking about it. Just a cautionary tale to let people know not to freak out over something and start thinking that if they don’t have a certain class they will never compete with people that do over drops.

Wait, what? Do you mean usability as in a character can or cannot use something in game? Because I see that warning box all the time, especially for rare and exotic equipment purchases…

Nah, usability: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usability

From the wiki page (part of the definition):

Errors: How many errors do users make, how severe are these errors, and how easily can they recover from the errors?

In this case, the only way to “recover” from the error is to contact support, so it’s a usability pitfall.

I forget sometimes that it’s not a commonly used term, unless you’ve been exposed to software development in some way.

Ooohh, yes. I agree. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat there and triple-checked purchases just to be absolutely sure I’m going to click the right buttons. It’s like when you make airline and hotel reservations – “Did I cover the days correctly or not? No going back once I hit this button!”

That may be true for that… but this is a kitten game that gives you a WARNING that you cannot use it on the class you are buying it on. It’s not in the same place as the buy button so haphazardly clicking won’t over ride it either.

How did you accidentally buy Karma Armor of a different weight class than your own? You cannot accidentally buy it anymore because as soon as you click “Buy” it gives you a second dialog pop up that says “Your class cannot use this item are you sure you want to purchase it?”

Honestly, it was YOUR fault for not reading the warning dialog that pops up in a Different spot from the buy buy button on the UI. Its not even in the same play you literally have to move your mouse to accept the dialog.

This is NOT an ANet problem, its yours and your lack of reading, I am sorry but I don’t feel bad for you. Live and learn my friend.

That’s not how usability works, buddy.

That is EXACTLY how it works especially with Karma vendors. They changed this awhile ago to prevent people from accidentally buying items they couldn’t use, and coming on the forums to make threads JUST like this one.

In that other thread the person that got help, knowingly bought the items on his guard for another toon not realizing they were soulbound on acquire. That is a totally different scenario than this one.

Even that guy I think should be penalized for not reading something, but that is just my opinion.

In this situation they outright ignored the warning box that pops up when you try to buy items from a vendor. Thus making it their own fault.

This is not a large enough sample size to dictate really. I play mostly Guardian and I still roll in the Silk from doing my every day things.

When you do an experiment like this to determine if something is noticeable or not in the long run you would have to use something almost 100x the sample size and more than just one person doing it to even come close to being accurate about it. Also, RNG makes it even worse to be accurate with such a small sample size.

Well consider the few people actually posting images to be valid input. I mean, until someone decides to be cheeky and post an image of all Light armor.

But the sample sizes are so small that its almost impossible to tell how it will be affecting them in the long term which is what these changes are for, and mostly for leveling players to gear up as they level.
