I miss my Assassin’s Ceremonial Daggers from GW1, it’s true.

I wonder who the god was in the Guild Wars universe that decreed that daggers should stop dropping in pairs and at what point/date it happened?

I like my mains (Necro) dagger it has a purple electric flash animation over it, I don’t know it’s name offhand (no pun intended) though sorry.

Nice. Dismiss me as a pessimist. I’m a “That’s a glass of water” kinda guy.
All players are affected by it, including off peaks. Putting people back in the world helps everyone. I’m not trying to change your mind, believe whatever you wish.

I see the glass and think, I want more water, some ice cubes and a slice of lemon please. Guess that makes me a thirstyist

Nah. GW1 was not even close to a perfect game. Nobody’s made a perfect game yet.

That said, there are things about GW1 that are different from any other game out there, and those things, I think, are what the community really liked about it.

Now I happen to think that, with GW2, ArenaNet has changed their target audience, no doubt aiming for something bigger than the GW community. Fair enough, but with that about-face, you shouldn’t be surprised to see quite a few very upset and disappointed GW1 players.

So nobody’s saying GW is the perfect game. What I think the old GW community is saying is that GW2 is not an improved version of GW. It actually got rid of much of what GW players liked so much about GW. So many people expected GW2 to be like GW, but better. Instead we got something that’s not like GW at all, and fairly debatable whether or not it’s a better (or more fun) game.

What does this add up to? A bunch of people who spent 8 years as ArenaNet fans, and the last almost 6 years looking forward to a wonderful improvement in the same spirit as Guild Wars. As we can see, that amounts to a large number of people who are disappointed that their years of excitement and anticipation were mostly not worth it.

Well said Chuo; I do not believe it was entirely intentional though. A bigger fan base= more value. I know they wanted to keep the close-knit GW1 community and tried very hard with HoM and the achievements/name reservations, but the game did take another path all together. That said this is not GW1 and the game will make it’s own name for itself, whether us GW1 fans like it or not.

I believe GW2 is going to have it’s own unique fan base with a close-knit community; It just won’t be the same GW1 fans (excluding some ;] )

This is a good point.

People complain this is not like Guild Wars 1, and in a lot of ways that’s true. But people also say this game is becoming more and more like WoW. In a lot of ways this isn’t true. It’s becoming less like Guild Wars 1, true, but a game can become less like Guild Wars 1 without becoming a WoW clone.

And part of the problem is people insist on playing it like WoW even though it’s not. So those people won’t play the game as designed. This is true for a lot of fans in a lot of games or genres. My son, no matter what game he plays, he always plays the same type of character, in the same type of roll, in the exact same way. The game is irrelevant to him, because he’s playing his own game on top of it.

I play alts in this game but a lot of it feels the same nomatter how different I try to make it (Charr, Asuran etc.) Maybe that’s because of me and how I expect it to be when I do.

The good thing is when I do I have a nice strong Guild that allows me to. Others might not.

I really feel sorry for new players to the game, they must take one look at the TP and die inside

What kind of GW2 gamer are you?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paul.4081

I was all three.

Speed Demon = First month I couldn’t get enough, I didn’t play the game like “MUST BE FIRST, MUST BE FIRST.” I played it because I had been waiting for it for years and so had all my Guildies/Alliance members.

Explorer = That’s who I was in GW1, Explorer/Newbie helper. Since no help really required I went out and explored the world. it was amazing until I broke my nose when I ran into a wall with “THOUGH MUST SHALL PLAY WVWVW TO CONTINUE!” which ended my exploration career.

Power Monger – Got my Main all kitted out in Exotics, can’t be arsed with kitten -ended. Sad part is, and it’s the reason I uninstalled again. I just got my Guardian to 80 and can’t even get her any exotics. Unrewarding is unrewarding.

Of course, next thing we know the Norn have docks and are importing weapons outwith the TP

Ps, I’m not worried about the Charr at all, they managed to construct a giant deathstar ball of uselessness since my toon in GW1. Christ I’m starting to see why Trahearne…..lol

And ultimately, it saddens me that people believe that since they got more than 60 dollars worth out of their purchase (compared to a standard game title) that it’s somehow as good as getting what you were marketed with.

blink

People get sad over differences in individual experiences and opinions? (Because, yes, IMO, GW2 is everything they advertised and more. Sorry to make you depressed.)

Lucky you. I don’t mean that in a condescending way, I mean it. I remember players in my Guild/Alliance telling me about the lack of skills in the game but I bought it anyway. They told me that it got boring fast, I bought it anyway. I could extend this but I can’t lie about having gotten my moneys worth because I bought it anyway.

One thing I won’t admit to is it being everything and more. This is simply not true for me. The only person depressed (not actually depressed, just a lil sad) in this scenario is me after 5 years of GW1 tunnel vision and grinding 50/50.

After Nov 15th I just find myself installing the game sporadically for a weekend or two at best. In the first game I slowly saved up cash, bought ectos with general and lucky drops from fun dungeons and eventually bought what I wanted. In this game I just feel that I have no chance to do that, so why bother?

What are your top details\problems in GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paul.4081

Paul.4081

  • While the trinity does not exist in the game, only certain classes get accepted into groups because of their ability to be versatile (guardian, warrior, etc.)

My main grievance; Knockback / knockdown….. A-net seems to love mechanics that involve people being knocked down repeatedly.

This is really kittening annoying and adds nothing to the encounter or game in general.

Please stop with the knockdowns already.

This is annoying, sure they can be dodged but give us some variety in monster attacks, it seems almost every other monster has a knockdown attack and when I get knockdown my toon has a little nap, sometimes for about 5 seconds. Also limping for a minute after a fight is annoying.

I am EXTREMELY offended.

Yep I’m not dropping another dollar on an RNG cash grab chest ever again.

If a RL shop had a poster on the window enticing people to come in and buy wonders then when they did they left feeling ripped off and out of pocket, you think they would go back to that shop and tell their friends to?

I bought every costume in GW1 and have no complaints but I wouldn’t touch the rng things with my jeeb jar (jar of change/coins ). Having players have to pay for the carrot is a low move.

Lamest ending for me was/is the forced dungeon virus, I done GW1 dungeons to death and always had fun even when the dailies weren’t after a particular, I’d happily help. How can I do this with the cheap Borderlands 2 (we can’t do difficulty) dungeons? 1 billion hp’s = difficult.

I always looked forward to the daily being a dungeon in GW1. In this game…lets face it, me and my hamster don’t talk much!

The need to farm has put players in direct competition with each other’s goals.

This is so true, I decided to go back to Orr on my main, yes it was tumbleweed heavy but when I saw an event on my map I thought surely ther’ll be others doing that. Went over and ‘Joy!’ there were other players. I started contributing to the event and for my trouble was told in no uncertain terms by all others there to get lost. Seems they just wanted to farm the infinite spawns or something, how pathetic. I did actually leave because there were enough of them to possibly report me for made up things

in Suggestions

Paul.4081

It sounds nice in theory but I remember getting a darker nights mod for Skyrim and Fallout 3. What a nightmare. I walked off so many cliffs in Skyrim thanks to that. It was more realistic I guess but the Fallout 3 one was horrible, all I could see was the black silhouette of the ground/hills etc. and made me strain my eyes squinting to try and see things.

I suppose if it was in GW2 we could always turn on the show enemy/fauna names for a guide. Everyone would start using torches too

I’d much prefer the blue fog/mist removed instead. In certain areas it looks a bit too weird, almost cyan in colour.

Oh, no worries mate. As I’ve often said on these forums, I have a notoriously thick skin. A lot of times when people think I’m annoyed, I’m actually laughing.

I’m not a farmer by nature, and I’d be bored playing the auction house. Almost all the mats I got from that came from putting ectos, coins and obby shards with some crystals into the mystic forge and see what pops out. About 20% of the time it’s something really useful, like powerful blood or elaborate totems, which I can then sell to get the mats I need.

Basically, since ectos are at this point largely free, and mystic coins are free or cheap, and karma is easy to get and experience points I get all the time, this seemed the best way to farm mats for me.

The biggest pain in the neck was getting the onyx lodestones. I managed to get 47, before breaking down and buying 53 of them from the marketplace.

Edit: I should point out, I now have the mystic clovers sitting there for my several legendaries. lol Going for Kraitkin next, since the precusor was so cheap.

I don’t know about this. I have new players in my guild, we don’t give them money (maybe we help out with drops here and there) and they seem to be doing fine. And I know a lot of people who have played since launch and don’t have thousands of gold to throw around. Maybe it’s because my guild doesn’t have very many farmers in it. We don’t have many people who play the auction house either.

There are always “poor” people and “rich” people in MMOs. I put those words in quotes because in my experience, it’s often the rich people that are the poorest people of all.

Insidious Parasite or Spiteful Spirit, jesus my main is a Necro and I thump things well but I miss skills like that.

It just seems that the dev’s left any creativity out of it and just went and replaced the trinity with damage/damage/damage.

Sure, once is a while you get a peanut butter cup or an English toffee but it’s gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. I have a feeling that drops (rare’s in Orr from DE’s) are stealthnerfed again with
last week patch (not only me, but everybody i ask in party’s are feeling the same),
what means more grinding DE’s in Orr for Ecto’s and less incoming gold.

If this is true, that they have yet again nerfed the drop rates after the (surprise, surprise) brushed under the carpet thread about the previous nerfs only to nerf them even further, then there is no hope for this game.
