Im happy with this nerf, but i am afraid they will nerf some of the fun stuff. Honestly, i see where you are coming from, this is a very tricky issue. Mesmer condition builds were probably not going to be “meta” and even less so now. But nontheless, a celestial torment shatter build was putting out SO much damage. I traited full inspiration and it still put out too much torment to handle. So it was overly strong (op) in 1v1s and small fights but it would probably still not be meta even before the nerf. I still think it was necessary, it was a VERY faceroll build.

Ehrm… the 3rd minor trait in dueling isn’t confusing combatants anymore but a trait that grants 5s of fury whenever we hit a target with less than 75% hp. (some icd) does someone know all changes we didn’t know yet? Did any of the streamers go through all of these?

This change is good in my opinion. Duelling is about crits and evades, not conditions. Fury is also something shatter mesmer and interrupt mes can make use of.
However, the MtD change is bad bad bad for condi mesmer.

They do. That’s why they nerfed the new Mental Torment to 30% on opponents now using skills down from 50%. They literally said on the stream “We tested this on some golems and it was a bit too strong”.

They already have Warden’s Feedback (both focus skills), Masterful Reflection (on distortion), Mirror (on heal), Feedback, probly more right now, I cannot remember.
If someone does not want to adapt their build to counter other builds, they should uninstall as they shouldn’t be PvPing.

Thief is amazing next patch. In terms of thief v mesmer, thief will literally have 100% uptime on all boons in the game except stab (50%) as long as they hit their instant skill. So i think you need to work on your predictions mate!

I played all classes, and honestly I’d have to tell you Engi is 10 times more faceroll than thief in general. A good thief is really strong but it’s much easier to suck at playing thief than suck at playing engi.
Because engi has a lower Skill floor. In terms of high level competitiveness, engi is one of the hardest with mesmer also up there.

Another good way to think about chronomancy is that do you really think it’s mandatory? If you truly believe that an additional F5 is overpowered, then let’s see if every mesmer will be chronomancer after expansion.

You mean meta Panic Strike thief? You’re comparing a whole prof to a spec that uses RNG and procs and thief will be call faceroll/cheese/OP no matter what.
Yes PS of course. It is a very user friendly easy spec in terms of mechanics and requires low play time for most.
That said, you can’t really call a whole class face roll. There are face roll builds on any class.
Celestial Rifle isn’t all Engineer is, and I doubt anyone would say other specs beside this one pose the most issues atm.
After the changes? I don’t know, but neither do any of you. Not even the Devs do (quite evidently). We’ll just have to wait and see.

What gets me a little irritated is that our new “Continuim Shift” F5 is supposed to compensate us for only getting the OH shield. And here in the trait changes, Engineer gets what? That’s right a new F5 kit. And we still haven’t seen his specialization or new weapon.
The chronomancer sounds really cool. I just hope that we can REALLY utilize that alacrity/slow and they don’t have huge cooldowns. Thus, chronomancer ends up being kind of gimmick cause we can only take advantage once very 5 minutes or something. I want it to be our “Fast Casting” in GW2. So that when played skillfully, its a powerful force.

This has probably been brought up before, but i’ve been wondering what the reasoning is behind giving the chronomancer an additional class mechanic (f5), while other elite specialisations only get their class mechanics replaced (e.g. dragonhunter gets f1-3 replaced, reaper gets f1 replaced,..)
I would think it made way more sense to replace the mesmers f4 skill when opting for chronomancer since it’s just a flat out buff as opped to an alternative playstyle. It seems a little unfair IMO.
Any thoughts?

I enjoy playing engi, but this honestly is disappointing to see. It really seems like there’s some favoritism going on, and not just with profession balance, but with addressing community concerns regarding professions.

What about:
They fix cancel casting on axe auto to boost dps. They don’t do the same on mesmer greatsword even though its actually used ALOT and is very strong.
Because it is overrated and doesn’t do nearly as much as people think. Try spamming auto on a semi-tanky build. They will die from air fire procs, not from the auto cancel.

With 4 useless healing traits baseline, it’s almost impossible to “juggle around” and still keep up with all the buffs other professions received.
At best, you’re going to be staying static and wondering…WTF…why do I have so few new toys and options compared to others?
It’s almost beyond comprehension how they justified a super tiny nerf to Warrior’s healing signet, yet did this to Consume Conditions. Remember what they said? They claimed they didn’t want to over-nerf Warrior healing signet (despite multiple warriors being in meta PvP teams) because they didn’t “want the other heals to become a much better option”.
In reality, the tiny nerf to warrior’s healing signet changed NOTHING in the decision making and virtually all the other options are still extinct….despite the other options being quite viable and on par with other professions.
YET…with necros…they have 3 terrible healing options and decide to whack-a-mole the only option of value….without doing anything tangible to improve the other 3 options.

I think the skill floor on proper dodging has been raised significantly by the nerf to Vigor. This is definitely going to be a key factor in fighting Thieves, who have it much better with Endurance regen then most others.
Sounds like fun though. I hope you share your results and tips & tricks if this all happens. I don’t play Thief and I play too sporadically to make any scheduled events possible.

I blame this entirely on the fact that it removes conditions and provides stealth. They will be very hesitant to reduce the cooldown and keep those two factors. Remember with PU now torch provides 6 seconds of stealth. Yeah, they aren’t touching it.

Why? That is how it works in game at the moment of speaking, and noone even uses the trait!

1.5% of 30 seconds is 0.45 seconds So this trait is actually giving a 45% boost to recharge rates for your torch skills while under stealth. So The Prestige on it’s own gives a 9% total cool-down bonus (if traited with PU, and why wouldn’t you if you are running a traited torch!). And if you are traiting PU, I’m sure that you will have a few other stealth skills up your sleeves.
Using Decoy as a second source of stealth gives a total of 12 seconds of stealth, followed by 12.6 seconds before you can stealth with the prestige again.
Of course, this trait is no where near as good as Chaotic Dampening is for staff
It gives 9% if used with the torch + a grandmaster trait in a completey different line? That is horrible compared to the standard 20%. It sucks.

Ok I’ll admit the new thief builds are going to be ridiculous.
I’m still standing by the stance that engi and mesmer got stronger changes and so they “won”, but thief as a whole is always closest to the edge of imba, and so will probs end up stronger after the patch.

I need to bump this thread. I didn’t really notice it back then, but if you just play guild wars for an hour then switch to something like CS or similar, you will feel exactly what OP meant. The camera in guild was is unresponsive and feels slow, which in my opinion really hurts the combat and especially the competitve PvP. A slow and sluggish camera is not a good sign if a game wants to be competetive. I don’t know if the general “floatiness” och whatever is due to the engine- if it isn’t, this is still so so important. I guess it won’t happen though /sigh ::(

Are you saying that mesmers either weren’t part of the meta at all or are you saying that mesmers won’t be part of the meta? Because neither is true. They definitely weren’t as common as thieves, but they were still played way more than ranger or necro. At least on EU.
My comment was pointing out that most classes currently in the meta got buffed (Ele, Engi, Guard, Thief), and those that aren’t in the meta got nerfed (notably necro); I haven’t read up on the ranger/warrior changes yet. The exception to this is the mesmer, which was not meta and got a buff.

Engi ele thief got buffs. People overrate the mesmer changes by alot. Alot. Mesmer isnt even very good ATM and is used for portal and moa. The main reason mesmer can spike is because a thief stealths them. All in all, thief will hardcounter just as hard and ele and engi and thief got thr biggest buffs

BUT.. this is assuming you take chonomancy and illusions as your specilizations. leaving you with either dueling or domination. so your gonna miss out on mental torment or deceptive evasion. which is a big thing which will HIGHLy reduce the effectivness of this idea.
in my own highly logical opinion. i think that illusionary invogoration should return as a REVAMPED illusions grandmaster trait
something that works like this:
grandmaster: illlusionary invigoration ; when your hp falls below 50% activate signet of illusions active
aka if you run signet traits you can get a distortion when you hit 50%. among other things
effectsthis way it gives the trait more functionality and build diversity because it will allow “shattermancers”, “mesignets”, to be a thing meaning more build diversity. AND
if you wanted to run “classic shatter” then you could run domination dueling and illusions grabbing this trait instead of improved shatters so you get the recharge.
so it would both give more diverisity and preserve the current buildsbut you know. this is just my…..logical opinion

Warrior Arms GM Minor:
Bloodlust: Deal 5% additional damage to bleeding foes. Bleeding you inflict lasts 33% longer.Does this really need to go down to 33%? That means with a 45% bleed duration rune set and a 20% sigil you’re stuck at 98% bleeding duration bonus.
If you absolutely must nerf it down from 50%, at least leave it at 35.

Here is my constructive feedback on the thief changes. I realize it has gotten a long rant but I would like to encourage you to read and consider these propositions. I mainly write form a PvP point of view which is very much influenced by class balance. In order to decrease the length of this post I only commented on changes I do not agree with/think need change. Some other changes were very well done for which i want to thank Arenanets Developers
SKILLS & GENERAL
- Withdraw: This skill is one of the few things that stands between a thief imminent destruction when being snared/immob. The increase of the cd hits thief pretty hard and the only way around is traiting for it (tricks cd reduce) which only brings it back to the original?. Please restore the cd to its original so the traits actually gives us an advantage?
- Traps: Traps remain weak as they rarely trigger on more than 1 person. Some changes to the functionality are required here (many threats with ideas exist)
- Devourer Venom: Immob duration halved (chainsaw nerf) to account for extra venom charge. Currently it is 2s/strike for 2 strikes = 4sec of immob. It will be 1s/strike for 3 strikes = 3s immob. Hard nerfs for a 40 sec cd skill that will no longer see any play outside venom share now. I suggest putting it on 1.5 sec/strike.
- Chocking Gas: Got nerfed hard a few patches ago already. Will need testing with new condi system but still seems a pretty hard nerf.
Withdraw was very very strong in pvp so the nerf was deserved. Remember though the heal is increased a bit.

Now a dodge will have to stand between that. Or the acrobatics trait that makes thief immune to one immob every 10 seconds.

Rangers are competing for that spot. And I can tell you, the competition for the Guardian will be tough.

Right now Steal is 35 CD, when traited it is
- 30% from the Trickery line
- 20% from Sleight of Hand
Which makes it ~18 seconds if I am correct.After the HoT release the base CD will be 30 seconds and when traited:
- 15% from Lead Attacks
- 20% from Sleight of Hand
Which makes it 19.5 seconds if I am correct.So in reality it is actually a nerf instead of a buff.:P

We don’t really know the numbers, I think we will get only 1 initiative per 3 seconds and hopefully the heal will stay the same as it currently is. I must agree that this is a powerful trait, but not much better then the current state a thief is in.

i disagree with op completely. burning can also stack now and if there are mesmer and thief on the team every engineer will use it to shut down thief, especially in low rank play. i think d/p meta zerk is dead and i’m not sure about s/d being a proper alternative (was nerfed hard also). when engi runs anti stealth trait thief d/x does little damage. high risk low reward gameplay

Lol. Thieves will be absolutely insanely strong. I don’t see how you could possibly fear mesmers when you have 1200 range steal, panic strike, 2x ectoplasms, and everything else. You can even get immunity to mes sword #3 if you go acro as 3rd traitline.

Don’t Stop: The effects of cripple and chill on you are reduced by 50%, meaning your movement is decreased by 25% and 33% respectively, rather than 50% and 66%. If you would become immobilized, you are instead crippled for 4 seconds. This effect can only occur once every 10 seconds.
Also a very overpowered trait!

There is one advantage mesmer has over thief, when engi try to smoke us out, our illusions may take the hit for their master and forced “locked on” into CD.

I imagine that, if the skill that hit us or our illusions is an AOE, it can reveal up to the max of players/illusions that the skill can hit inside its area with the first tick before “Lock On” go into CD.ENGINEER -> Tools -> Master:
Lock On: Striking a foe in stealth analyzes them, revealing them and inflicting them with 10 stacks of vulnerability for 8 seconds. This trait has a 20 second internal cooldown.
Ye this won’t trigger on clones except if the clones are in stealth, IE via mass invis.

I’m kinda split. Part of me says “Yay! More Burn!” and another is kinda peeved about the loss of condie-removal and the fact that 1 stack of Burn for 6s under the new system seems possibly weaker then 4 stacks of Confusion for 4s under the current system. More reliable yes, but possibly quite a bit weaker too.

What is the reasoning for getting rid of invig? There is almost no reason and it does nothing but punish the most difficult build to effectively play. Doesn’t promote build diversity or anything, its staple on almost all shatter based mesmer builds. Wish A-Net could give any feedback on this topic.
If you look at the inability to spell basic english in this thread, I doubt this is the most difficult build to play. Seems quite the opposite, actually.

That largely depends on the skill level of the playerbase in question.
- At high levels, yes.
- At moderate levels, meh. Very build dependent in my opinion
- At low levels, heck no.
I have always had a love-hate relationship with the Thief class
- Thief has such a high skill ceiling that it is a blast to play as you rarely ever feel restricted by the class
- Thief has several non-telegraphed but high-damage abilities that I feel harm counterplay
Now, Ross has a point at the moderately competent thieves due to the non-telegraphed issue. If a Glassy Thief runs into a glassy anything, they do a single DPS combo and it’s a downed player. Sadly, this creates a low skill floor for Thieves which leads to aggravation from players as no one likes to see nothing but it take them down. It is why you don’t see nearly as much aggravation from players that get hit by a Warrior’s Eviscerate. Only the least mature players complain about that as the rest realize that “hey, I saw it coming and failed to do something about it”.
Side-note: I have the same dislike for some of Mesmer’s own “instant” abilities with no telegraph (ex: Mantra of Pain and Mantra of Distraction). I’m for things that promote counterplay and dislike things that harm it. I want good fights and being able to see my opponent’s skills and react while they do the same concerning my skills leads to much more fun fights in my opinion.
I agree mostly, especially for example mantra of pain. Mantra of distraction however is meant to be an instant interrupt and can be baited as people can see the mantra charge on your condition bar.

For someone who has retired, you sure post a lot. You remind me of an ex who can’t let go. Just like an ex, you have two options: 1. beg a team to take you back. 2. move on and play a different game.
Im plat 1 in league, and I wouldn’t come back to the game unless I got into the Abjured cuz then I could farm free money off of Anet. I’m just highlighting the biggest problem I saw in PvP when I still played and how Anet could potentially fix PvP and bring people back.
@Dr GonzoWithout Thieves Mesmer would be OP???? LOL. Go play a Mesmer and tell me that they’re on the same tier as thief. Unlike Thief who can faceroll 1-2-3 in teamfights then insta-disengage, Mesmer has a very hard time doing damage. Even if there wer no thieves mesmer would still be a high skill floor class and would definitely not be OP because the class has clear weaknesses and counterplay unlike Thief. Same for rangers, but they’re easier to play, in exchange for less utility.

Thief is not not OP but its game breaking . Even if they nerf it more than they already did it will still be broken due to the core mechanics of the class. The only solution is to redesign the class or leave it that way.
You could literally nerf everything by 30% and it would still be broken . Because other classes can’t match an initiative system which allows to spam daze/blind , high stealth/ evade uptime depeding on the build and multiple instant gap closers.
And long stealth duration in conquest is just stupid. If a thief goes stealth near your close point, you basically either have to afk there or move and get decapped 3 seconds later. No matter what you do ,the thief wins by making you waste time or kill your teammates outnumbered while you sit there and wonder if you gonna get decapped or not.
Stealth duration need a nerf for sure. Getting 1 sec of stealth for a blast/leap sounds reasonable and 5 sec on shadow refuge would be great too.
Since thief is so “broken” how did abjured win without a thief in their comp with enemy team running one? I mean obviously thief team should have cuz thief prof is so broken in this game, right?
Because they stacked celestial self-sustain bunker classes to win. Thats how. And thats the only reliable counter to thief. Being tanky and having good sustained damage/healing does well against thief.
